Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, I'm Grant Smith filling in for Benjamin Albright, who's
(00:02):
a little under the weather, and here with my guys,
Nick Ferguson and Zach Seegers. Thank you to everyone chiming
in on the Kawa Common Spirit Health text line five
six six nine zero with her Hulk Hogan memories from
the seven to one nine Hogan and Macho Man tag
team of Megapowers is one of my favorites, and loved
the match between Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior even though
(00:25):
Hogan lost.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Nick, you brought that one up earlier.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Yeah, you know what, he was fascinating by.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
That kind of due on that match because I remember
watching that on Saturday Night Main Event, staying up for
that and just out of nowhere. I mean, you see
this guy just coming out, just running and just sliding
under the ropes, Like where did it come from?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
But that's the thing that made wrestling so much fun?
Speaker 4 (00:54):
But I'm hoping finally is the last shot we can
get hold imitation.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Well, I'm over two so far, but I have faith
in our third guest of the evening, our Wrestling insider
and also host of the Believe in the Broncos and
let's talk Broncos podcast. Bree masis on the KWA Common
Spirit Health Hotline.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Bree, how are you tonight?
Speaker 5 (01:18):
Oh my goodness, I am. I don't know where I
called into. I don't know where I'm at. We're talking
about wrestling here on the show. I couldn't be more
excited what you're going to do, brothers. But uh, it
is super unfortunate to hear the passing. I recall so
many fond memories of watching throughout the years, but I
(01:38):
got to say it's it's the Wrestlingia eighteen Hulk Hogan
versus the Rock where the torch was passed. That is
my favorite moment from my youth. So there's that for
you guys.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Would you all day name Jean?
Speaker 3 (01:55):
I just I just had to do it.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
I've been trying to do me to do it, and
then all of a sudden, it just just all came up.
When you at this team the way that you do,
and I know, you know training camps, the fans will
be out there tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
The biggest thing for me, because we constantly talk.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
About the coach, the team, the outcome, the schedule, Well
what we haven't really talked about is the fans and
as a person that covers the team and your fan yourself.
What is it about this, this Broncos Country fan base
that makes them one, if not the best fan base
(02:31):
and professional sports?
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Oh my goodness, what a setup. Because I'm a member
of that institution and I feel right now I'm going
to miss so sadly being able to go out to
training camp and sit atop that burm, that concrete patch
that I know so fondly, and maybe have the ability
to idolize the whole comniacs out there and tear, you know,
my Broncos shirt in front of everyone. But that's a
(02:57):
great stand base simply because of the passion, and it
can go as far as when the team is doing well.
But as we've seen in the last decade prior to
bo Nix's arrival, it was kind of in this downslope
and it didn't stop these fans from showing up and
showing out and expressing their passion. And I think that's
what speaks so highly. It speaks a testament to what
(03:19):
Broncos Country is all about, and that's supporting the team
that they love. Whether or not you were born and
raised a Broncos fan, or you had the privilege and
the opportunity to find them along the way, And it's
a re energized feeling for this fan base to be
able to say that after a little bit of a drought,
and how spoiled are we that it was such a
short one. I know other teams have gone through much longer,
(03:41):
more treacherous ones, but to come out on the other
side of it and have all of this expectation and
longing because I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve
because I'll be out at training camp tomorrow. I'mpsetting alarms,
I'm setting my outfit out, and I'm just as excited
as everyone else to walk through those gates, even though
they may be me and there may be less of
us to be able to enjoy training camp as it
(04:03):
opens up to fans. I feel think it's important to
note and to shout out to everyone who's listening and
everyone who will be in attendance that they continue to
support their team even when there's those down years. But
the temperament has changed. Now we flipped a one eighty.
The script is no longer on the same temperature because
we are excited again, and I think that's what it
(04:23):
just fuels the conversation that we're able to have tonight.
So Nick, thank you for pointing out you're always a
staunch supporter of all of Broncos Country. You are the
voice of the people, and I think it's important to
continue to highlight that as we get to have all
of our excitement back, because it's a fun time to
be a Broncos fan.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Well, I hope you're an outfit for training camp tomorrow
involves a whole Camania shirt and a fake handlebar mustache.
If I want to see from you personal quick, that's
step for sure. But as you said, you know as
someone who has whether you were born here a lifelong
Broncos fan or someone like me who's a transplant, which
(05:01):
we know there are plenty of them here in Colorado
who have come to love the Denver Broncos through the
good and the bad. It seems like players around the
league also want to become a part of Broncos Country.
We saw some big name free agents join the roster
this year, most notice notably on the defensive side, with
Talanoa Hufunga and Drake Greenlaw. Do you think the Broncos
(05:22):
defense could be even better than last year's team?
Speaker 5 (05:26):
I think right now, they're super scary on paper, and
that's a dangerous position to be in. Right you set
those expectations, the national media catches wind of it, and
they've completely changed their entire precedent on this Denver Broncos
team heading into twenty twenty five. And a big part
of that, as you already spoke to, is all of
the acquisitions that they've made. The defense in itself is
re energized. You have the opportunity and continuity of having
(05:51):
Vance Joseph back again with his core players. But the
defense in itself is they're opportunistic, they're fast, they're physical,
there's potential breakout stars Pepper throughout, and the core is
still as hard hitting and as aggressive as ever. But
you add the likes of d green Law, you add
the likes of Ufanga, and they're going to create a
ton of pressure and a ton of turnovers that in itself,
(06:14):
you know, affects the momentum of games. It creates this
unprecedented mismatch with offenses who aren't able to really understand
what's getting thrown at them. I really love the idea
that the versatility that presently presents itself for the defense
is going to be just that game changing attitude that's
going to carry them to the next level. Right, You've
already got a completely different opening thought for twenty twenty
(06:38):
five twenty twenty four with hesitation. Twenty twenty five is optimism,
and there's a crossroads moment here for the Broncos. They
showed promise and now they have to take it to
the next level. The defense is going to play a
major role in that, simply because you make those types
of acquisitions, you hope for the best and if the
health is there seventy five percent eighty percent, you you
(07:00):
got to lights out defense. And I'm really excited to
see the pairings. I'm really excited to see what Patrick
Surtan does this season, as we all are. But there's
also some names on there that are going to be
able to prove themselves, specifically at cornerback. Right, there's a
question mark as to whether or not you've got the
depth available for when inevitably injuries happen to cross our paths.
(07:21):
And I'm knocking on what all over the place. Don't
you worry, Broncos Country, But you've got a Bronc those
team who has their guy Bonix is no longer the rookie.
He's the captain of the ship. And now the defense
gets to stand up in a way where you're making
strong runs into the postseason. You're not just worried about
wild cards. You're worried about how you're going to stack
(07:41):
up against the rest of the AFC and then looking
at trying to conquer the division of the West, and
I think this defense is what's going to take them
up that Notch you.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Know, or Bree you know. There's one thing that kind
of sticks in my crawl.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
And what I mean by that is we only like
a couple of days in a training camp, and when
you listen to certain people talk about the team and
write articles and tweet, they're talking about, Okay, well this
this guy is an elite rock runner. He's doing these
types of things.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
He keeps coming.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Downhill and he's being aggressive. See for me, I look
at it different because we're in the T shirt and
short Olympics. It's hard to determine a lot of those
things when guys don't have pads on. So when when
you're used to being out there, are you're gonna be
out there tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (08:31):
How do you feel about.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Making those types of assessments when we really haven't really
seen any physical context to even put those comments into context.
Speaker 5 (08:44):
Well, I just want to make a note that I'm
going to take my whiteboard and get rid of all
my check marks underneath my stats there. I'm kidding mostly
the idea of trying to keep it in the stat
sheet when you're not in pads, and it's simply the
T shirt Olympics. I love that word that you use there.
It's hard. It's hard when you're trying to emphasize speed. Right,
(09:07):
Guys are a lot quicker when they're not weighed down
by pads. There's not a whole lot of contact going on,
so guys are a little bit more slippery. You have
to be really careful. And I think it's interesting what
individuals glom onto when it comes to this time, But
I think it's coming from a hunger. It's been this
drought of football. We're all very excited to be back
and watching what takes place. I think it's only natural
(09:30):
to want to start keeping track of that and making
all of these bold based claims just as it ramps up.
And simply I think that's just because the audience is
there for it. Everyone wants to know what is happening
from camp, and simply I think it would be too
dry and possibly even boring if you were to just
report out that it is very much so a nice walkthrough, infell.
(09:52):
But I think there are things that you can take
from training camp, specifically the health of the team in general.
I think I love to use the word vibes, and
I think it's just an arbitrary enough that you can
throw it out whenever it fits to say how is
the team looking in general? What is the talk and
the chatter and what comes afterwards when it comes to
the pressors. But I do think to your point, Nick,
(10:15):
it can be pretty frustrating when you start to get
these absolutes. And I'm not a big absolute person. You
don't come in one day training camp the first week
and say that this is one hundred percent going to
happen or this is zero percent going to happen. So
I'm not big into leaning too much into that. But
this is where you start grabbing your evidence. This is
(10:36):
where you start to see maybe in the ways in
which Courtland Sutton and his contract negotiations are right. It
showing up to training camp is a great sign. The
tangibles there I think are more important than I don't
know how many completions Bonix has thrown while he's walking
around in windbreaker shorts.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
You know, well, Brie One, thanks for starting. Our audience
always grows and we have you on the show. If
you want to hear more of bri you can check
her out on the Believe in the Broncos podcast or
the Let's Talk Broncos podcast.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Brie, we appreciate your time tonight, brother.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
You guys are awesome. Queen Hill, Broncos Country One runs
wild on just about everyone in the training camp. Tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
We'll see out there, We'll see you there. Breems just said,
like I said, you can find her on the Believe
in the Broncos podcast or Let's Talk Broncos with our
esteemed producer Zach seekers Nick. You're gonna be charting bo
Nix's passes tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Oh no, oh, I don't do that.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
What expand on that a little bit though, like, how
ridiculous do you think it is that people are drawing
conclusions from two days of the what do you call it?
Speaker 2 (11:41):
The T shirt Olympics T.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Shirt in short Olympics And it's hard to draw those
hard conclusions right away. What I get it, it's a
slow news cycle. Everyone wants to put something up on
social media to engage, you know, with fans.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
But I'm just like, okay, so let's temper those expectations.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Let's not build something or player up to be something
that they're not right away, because.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
It's it's very little that you can see.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
At this time right watching them at practice, and for me,
it's when you go full go, when the pads come on,
the mentality change and all those guys who at the
front of the line, guess what now they're at the
back of the line. They're standing there counting rep saying like,
who am I going against persons trying to find an
ideal person to give them a w And I'm like, no,
(12:34):
I've never been a fan.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Of that type of mentality.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Even when I played that, I knew that my skill
set that I had in college playing corner wasn't gonna
really translate to the NFL level cop and wide receivers,
but it didn't stop me. Now, while fans are oohing
and on one on ones, I'm getting better because you
gotta take it l to know exactly what you need
to do from game time.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
Well, it's like anything in life, right, teacher, a lot
of times is failure. And if you're pushing yourself against
the best of the best, you have the opportunity to
get better every day instead of trying to find that
guy in the line across from you, whether you're a
dB or a wide receiver that you know you're gonna beat.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
But see, that's.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Where individuals start trying to survive training camp. They're just
trying to get easy wins. So when the coaches start charging,
when the coaches chart the plays, well, how many reps
did Grant have?
Speaker 3 (13:23):
How many wins did he have? Oh, he had great wins.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
But then you're getting wins against guys who are your
third or fourth point going to be on the roster, right,
And then when you get in the game and you
get your back blown out.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Right, and it goes.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Like, what whoa what's happened since training camp to the game? Oh,
because he wasn't going against the top players. And you
see guys now now obviously at Bronco's practice, I mean
you can't record anything, but you'll see someone with maybe
a pilcil writing some things now, and it's like, what
are you charting, right, what do you charge? Because we
(13:58):
don't really know what are players really going to do
at this particular time. Once competition rives up more importantly
it was in a squad scrimmages, then you can look
at it and then start to make your predictions.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
But making a couple of predictions.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Going online to engage with fans and just kind of
filling their heads with certain things about certain players where
you can't really determine that.
Speaker 3 (14:22):
I'm not a fan of that.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
I think one thing you can learn from in training
camp is when we start to get these guys in
their media availability and certain things they say. I thought
Quinn Minor said something interesting today about the change and
the running game philosophy, philosophy for the Broncos this year.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
I want you to listen to.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
This real quick before we got to go to break
and then get me thirty seconds on the backside of I.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
Would not necessarily say it's running back to Pennon. I
would say it's what our philosophy is in the run game,
and that has changed a little bit, and so it's
about all of us trusting that philosophy, trusting those angles,
and all of us working together because the running back
and the line. Both of those are only as good
(15:03):
as each other. And so through this camp, you know
we're going to be working together to keep improving and
get this running game going.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
Did you see the run game improving in year two
under Sean Payton? And he didn't really mention what the
changes were, but what changes could be made to the
Broncos running running style? Run the damn ball, even if
you got to write it twice on the play.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Sheet, I'm just saying, I mean, what more you need
to do? Instead?
Speaker 4 (15:28):
The way you get good at tackling is guess what
tax freaking tackle. The way you get good at running
the ball is running the ball because for me, I
go back to my time with Bill Parcels and his
whole idea is that the game is based on physicality.
It's a long, arduous season, so we have to make
sure that we are battle hardened in practice. How do
(15:51):
we get prepared for games? You practice? Just like we
had a bubble, we didn't go in it. We saw
it when it was called. He didn't probably is in
because he was like, well, you play in the damn
elements in New York. It's gonna snow during so you
want to be a physical team that starts in practice
and you need some contact in order to determine how
(16:12):
physical your team is. You can't wait till the game
and say, oh, we go run all these physical plays
and wonder why they didn't work.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
Well, speaking of practice, we're going to get into Zach
Seger's top three storylines in Broncos training camp as well
as an NFL six pack when we come back on
Broncos Country a night on KOA A fifty am ninety
four to one FM that filling in for Benjamin Albright
alongside Nick Ferguson and Zack Segers back behind the glass
(16:42):
doing a great job producing thanks to Bremsis Parker, Gabriel
and romy Bean joining us earlier in the show. You
can find all that at Broncoscuntry Tonight dot com.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
Here in just a little.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Bit, guys, we all have that teacher that we remember
who made a difference in our lives, believed in us,
challenged us, or just made fun learning fun. Nick, did
you have a teacher that made an impact in your life?
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Yes, mister Steve Shirker, Yeah, change my life and it
was wild because he was a white teacher. In the
inner City and he was like, there's no way you
should be in this neighborhood. But I'm glad that he
was because definitely change my life. Man open up a
(17:25):
whole different world to me. So I'm thankful that he's
been in my life and I got a chance to
meet him again.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
That's awesome. I think of missus Clark for me.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
She was my English teacher in high school, but also
took a creative writing class with her and really sparked
my love of journalism and led me to go to
Ohio University in the School of Journalism because of her.
So we all have that teacher that's made an impact
in our lives, and now's your chance to say thank you.
With Iheartradios, think a teacher powered by donors Choose, you
(17:56):
can nominate an outstanding public school teacher who's gone above
and on for their students to win five thousand dollars
to stock their classroom. Think of what a difference that's
going to make to the teacher and the kids the
students in their classroom. Nominate your favorite teacher now at
iHeartRadio dot com slash Teachers. We were going through Zach
Seeger's six biggest storylines of Broncos training camp. Earlier, we
(18:19):
left off on number three, which is what is the
state of the Broncos future at wide receiver seekers? What
is the state of the future of the Broncos wide
receiver corps.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
Man, I'm excited to find out. I think it's an
extreme mystery. I think all we know about this group
right now is Courtland Sutton is the top of the heap,
and he is the starting XT receiver. Everything beyond that,
who's lining up opposite outside opposite of him? I think
we have no idea on that. I think we're very
unclear as to how the slot logjam it's gonna figure
(18:53):
itself out. As Ben's talked about a lot, Evan Ingram
is more of like a slot player than a heavy.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
He's starting in the Broncos country.
Speaker 7 (19:01):
Marvin Nimms, his best stuff was there last season, but
a got a lot of that work last season. Everyone's
hyping up the Pat Bryant Michael Thomas comparison. Well, Michael
Thomas did a lot of his work inside the slots.
So I'm just wondering how the roles outside of Sutton,
especially because Sutton's entering a contract season has maybe gone
after this year. I'm curious how those other pieces of
(19:22):
the puzzle were going to start falling together and seeing,
you know, who's running with Bo Nixon, kind of the
rest of the first team guys, who's running with Jared
Stidham or Sam Ellinger or whatever? I think is going
to start to give us a little glimpse at what
the future of that room looks like.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Number two on your biggest storylines, who emerges at running
back and who fades into the background? So on interesting
story the other day, Nick, I think it was the
athletic It might have been someone else, but they said JK.
Dobbins rejected to be the biggest bust for the Denver Broncos.
Who do you see being RB one And who do
you think fades out of the Broncos running back room?
Speaker 3 (19:57):
You know what it looks like.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
It could be maybe all Estimate, which which I don't
think so, because in my opinion, he has a unique
skill set. It just has to be used more more frequently.
But Taliber day, Yeah, I think he may be one
of those guys that may fade. Because coaching staffs every
(20:19):
year they have their guys, whether they admit it or not.
Speaker 3 (20:22):
It's almost like parents.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
I'm not going to tell you you're my favorite, but yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
And you want to make it seem as though everyone
has an opportunity in all actuality, No, you don't like
so that the two guys who are going to.
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Get the bulk of the carries are R. J. Harvey
and JK.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Dobbins, And there's gonna be some pickings for the other guys.
So they're gonna have to make the most of every
opportunity they get and cross their fingers.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
Not that you want someone to get injured.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Do you wish for what you understand if it happens right,
And like we talked about earlier, that's when some of
these guys further down on the list, doddric customize to
Julia McLoughlin's now and Tyler Baday that got to be
ready when that opportunity calls.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Number one.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
Biggest storyline for Zach Seegers where will Jade Baron play
and what ripple effects will that cause?
Speaker 7 (21:13):
Yeah, I think he can steal a lot of different
people's jobs or, as Nix pointed out on here, be
useful at a lot of different spots along the defense.
And I'm curious to see how does that mix things up?
You know, what does that mean for j Quan McMillan,
What does it mean for Riley Moss? What does it
mean for the depth of safety or linebacker? Because if
he's able to kick back and play some safety opens
(21:34):
up the ability to put Tallano Hufonga in the box
at linebackers somewhere, and that, you know, alleviates the depth
of safety concerns and the depth at linebacker concerns. So
I think lots of different ripple effects to watch with
just how he's being utilized.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
In these practices.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Yeah, and we saw him used all over the field
at Texas obviously.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
You can find Zach's full article at Koacolorado dot com
The six biggest storylines to watch in Bronco's training camp.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
And with that, let's get to the NFL six pack.
It's time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 6 (22:05):
I'm gonna pray the last year back insight and inside
information you can't find anywhere else. No.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Six, the top six NFL headlines.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
This is a good one for you guys. Shoot what
sorry it is shout out. This is a good one
for you guys for due defensive back transfer Taj raw
L has been removed from the team's online roster. This
is a currently developing situation after on three Sports shared
(22:36):
screenshots of Taj sharing photos of Memphis defensive playbook and
signals to UTSA quarterback Owen McCown in the instagram dms.
Utsa then went on to beat Memphis forty four thirty six. Uh,
what do you guys make of this whole situation? Do
(22:57):
you think this is a product of the new and
do you think this is a product of the new
era of college sports?
Speaker 2 (23:03):
Or has this always.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
Been happening these sorts of shenanigans.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yeah, this is.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Always going to be a possibility and the sharing of information,
even though some coaches don't want you to do it,
players are always going to find a way to do it,
especially if it's an opportunity to have a little get
back and expose some state secrets.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
I think this has always been happening, But with the
transfer portal being so unhinged right now, I think we're
going to see more of these stories coming out in
the future.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Do you think sports gambling could be involved at all? Possibly?
I mean we've seen players get in trouble for it.
Already two.
Speaker 7 (23:42):
The Raiders are avoiding the remainder of Christian wilkins contract,
including thirty five million in guarantees. The nflpa's finding a grievance.
We'll have to see how that plays out to see
whether or not the Raiders are on the hook for
the remainder of that deal as a result, or they're
avoiding it because of how he handled his rehab from
a Jones foot fracture he suffered last season in October.
(24:06):
Do you think this will impact how other players around
the league view the Raiders in terms of signing with
them as a free agent And should the Denver Broncos
kick the tires on Christian Wilkins?
Speaker 3 (24:18):
I say, why not?
Speaker 4 (24:19):
You always in search of talent and guys who can
help you out, especially if they're within your own division.
But yeah, this definitely would change a lot of things.
But Trevon Diggs was fired by a dots in cash
by the Dallas Cowboys because.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
He didn't do his rehab there with the team. This
could be one of those things.
Speaker 4 (24:36):
That we see as a growing shurand with guys and injuries.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Yeah, and I think this will affect how players around
the league view signing with the Raiders when they're a
free agent. And I don't think the Broncos should kick
the tires on Wilkins. I think he's a phenomenal player.
I love our d line group. I don't think you
need to mess with that continuity we got going on here.
Speaker 3 (24:56):
It's not saying that you need to mess with it.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
It's just a fact that, Okay, well here's a guy
who played within the division, right, and he is a
good player. You're always looking to add guys.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah, but it's with the Raiders. Maybe he played for
the Chiefs.
Speaker 7 (25:09):
We've got some secrets to the point about that. Raiders rep.
I just did not the first time they've done it
in recent years. Here they did the similar thing with
Jimmy Garoppolo, benching him to avoid having to pay out
the injury guarantees.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
So a couple of bad looks for common theme three.
Speaker 7 (25:27):
Despite all the tensions surrounding the situation, Bill Starr running
back James Cook reported to training camp today. When asked
about his contract situation, he said it will happen eventually.
Do you think James Cook should be holding out into
a deal as signed and do you think Cook gets
his big money extension from the Buffalo Bills, or do
you think he's going to get it from some other
(25:48):
NFL team down the road.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Well, if i'm Cook, yeah, I'm a whole dan because
just think about it, he was an intricate part of
the run game that the Bills had last year. It
was him and a quarterback. So you removed Cook from
that dynamic. Now you only have one guy, and then
now the defense could pin their ears back. So you
hope that the Buffalo Bills are smart and.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
They give him his money.
Speaker 4 (26:12):
I know we live in a world of quarterbacks and
the val of running backs, but this is this is
not that shouldn't be the case, especially if Josh Allen
hopes to finally bring the Super Bowl to the Buffalo
Bill and I.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
Think that's got to play another way. James Cook thinks
about it a little bit too, like, even if you're
not going to get this money from the Bills, you
can go out and be on a super Bowl winning
team and put up great numbers. That's only going to
help you get more money in free agency. Whenever that
time comes.
Speaker 7 (26:37):
You just got to hope he stays healthy because some
positions like Dak Prescott got his record second the setting
deal after he suffered from some injuries. Quarterbacks and some
other positions won't be penalized. So actually a running back,
if something bad happens to him, I worry about how
much money could off the table.
Speaker 3 (26:52):
He is the other thing. Cook knows his brother Dalvil
has been.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
In a situation before, So you want to get.
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Your money now, not late.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
Or Aaron rodgers first throw as a Pittsburgh Steeler was
intercepted just to training camp throw. But still, what do
you make of this ominous start for Aaron Rodgers?
Speaker 2 (27:13):
And do you think he.
Speaker 7 (27:14):
Has enough left in the tank to lead the Steelers
past the first round of the playoffs or will they
keep hitting their head up against that brick wall.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
This is a big nothing burger for me, and Aaron
Rodgers said that you want to. I like him as
a player, and just the fact that people have doubted
him and what happened.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
With the New York Jets. Still, this could be something.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
That motivates him because he knows that this is going
to be a talking point for so many people locally
and national.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Yeah, it means nothing to me. Also, I think it
just adds claims to the fire. Though of the Aaron
Rodgers haters, which is kind of enjoyable to watch, even
though I'm an Aaron Rodgers fan. And if you would
have said, do you think they make the playoffs? I
think maybe, But getting past the first round, I don't
see it happening.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
It seems like they're just stuck in purgatory. They're not
bad enough to really fall out of playoff contention, but
they're nowhere near good enough to compete with the top.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Teams in the AFC right now. Yeah, but who knows.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
There's a team that surprises us every year. Maybe if
the Steelers will be that team. They're certainly going all
in on their free agent signings.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
Five after being carted off the field today, many fear
Justin Fields had suffered a season ending injury. Instead, you
will be day to day with a dislocated toe.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Do you think Ben was involved?
Speaker 6 (28:27):
Me?
Speaker 2 (28:27):
He hasn't been here today. Seems kind of suspicious.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
And will Aaron Glenn be able to salvage Field similarly
to how his mentor Dan Dan Campbell, excuse me, salvaged
Jared Goff.
Speaker 4 (28:39):
It seemed like something more that young Zack Segers would do,
not Ben.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
Justin Fields I'm the pro Justin Fields guy.
Speaker 4 (28:47):
Okay, well, listen, this is just kind of a minor thing,
and I'm glad it was a major with him being
carted off. We'll see because the question of who's going
to be just starting a quarterback is similar of a
conundrum for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (28:58):
But now Rod Taylor gets his shot.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Yeah Rod Taylor?
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Man, how cool would that be if he has another
comeback story and ends up being the starter for the
New York Jets. But I actually kind of agree with
Seegers this year that I think Justin Fields, if healthy,
if it's dislocated toe, which is something that could linger
all year long, if he's able to fight through that
and come back healthy.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
I think he could surprise some people this year.
Speaker 1 (29:21):
I'm not on the he sucks at quarterback like Benjamin
all Bright train. I don't think he was as terrible
as Ben's made it out to see him last year,
and Pittsburgh didn't use his rushing ability at all.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
And we know how dynamic he could be as a rusher.
Speaker 7 (29:34):
If he keeps that passing progression and it becomes an
impactful runner again, I think.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
He could be a solid quarterback six.
Speaker 7 (29:44):
On average every season, five teams will make the playoffs
after not making the playoffs the previous season. What non
playoff team from last year do you think makes it
in twenty twenty five and who do you think they'll replace?
You guys have got the chief Shop. I see that
on the back.
Speaker 4 (30:02):
Well, for me, the first team I would think that
could make the playoffs. Uh, the Cincinnati Bengalsay.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
My answer, that's okay, we agree on that.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
I think that they can because they've shown that they
can outscore a lot of teams and I'm sure at
some point the defense is going to come along, but
offensive prowise goes to the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
My team not making the playoffs this year. Kansas City
Chiefs WOW replaced the Cincinnati Bengals, and I think all
these other ones on here are going to stay the same.
We got the Chargers, they're Texans, the Ravens, the Bills,
the Steelers.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
I do think they get into the playoffs as well.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
I think the AFC North is going to get three
teams in, and of course we've got the Broncos win
the division, so they're going to be hosting that first
round playoff game. And the NFC, I don't know, I
think it may stay the same. I mean, historically it
obviously doesn't have that trend, but I think it may
be the exact same seven teams in the NFC.
Speaker 7 (31:03):
And I think that's why this is such a great exercise,
because every year it feels so hard to find the
teams that are gonna fall off. But historically, almost like clockwork,
it's like five teams every season. I believe last year
it was only four, but that was the first year
in several where that trend finally broke. So we're looking
at and I agree, you know, Bengals seem like an
(31:23):
easy team to throw in there, but it's hard to
I think, find like two AFC teams you think are
going to fall out and two that are going to
join the bunch.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
I think was good.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
You're going to see it flop though, between Detroit Lions
and the Green Bay Packers. The Packers could win that
NFC NORD that's a strong possibility.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
No Ben Johnson in Detroit.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Yeah, and you know what, the Minnesota Vikings, they might
be the team replaced. I don't know by who in
the NFC, but I think they will be changed. My
mind on that, Nick, this was a lot of fun. Man,
always roll with your secret. Thanks for the help. Broncos
