(00:00):
Well, the do it Broncos countrytonight. But with all Brian Dick Ferguson
Grant Smith, I don't know ifyou saw this interview. You guys seen
this CACP interviews floating around. Caseyb talk about the Nuggets running out of
gas and all that interesting dilemma there. I guess that I wanted to start
with, and that is the Nuggetswere chasing the number one seed. You
know, they put their effort intothat, and I think every coach effort
(00:21):
is going to tell you way,we're in this to win, We're always
trying to win, all that kindof stuff. But he sort of presented
it is they spent a lot ofenergy in that and as a result of
that struggled against the Lakers and theTimberwolves in the playoffs. First of all,
do you buy that as the reason? And second of all, what
is the what's the line there? And what point do you say, you
(00:44):
know what, we don't need anumber one seed, even though that's anathetical
to we want to win everything. We want to conserve ourselves for what is
a sexually a second season in theNBA in the playoffs, Well, I'm
sure coach Malone and Nuggets at thattime, they wanted that number one seed.
I know most people say, well, really doesn't make a difference.
It does because the altitude is yourfriend. It's be totally honest to most
(01:07):
of all the sports that have playedhere, that is by far your best
friend. Now, do I believein what KCP said about they were exhausted?
Yes, I do. And here'swhy. Look at the run,
that historic run that the Nuggets wenton to win their first title. And
when you get that deep into theplayoffs, the one thing that it does
(01:30):
is it depletes you because you havea shorter offseason than everyone else. Right,
so you're coming into the season withvery little rest, knowing how long
the NBA season really is, andyou're trying to maintain your roster, keep
guys healthy. And oh, bythe way, when you look at the
Nuggets bench, which wasn't that greatbecause Bruce Brown wasn't a part of that
(01:52):
bench. You needed to leave NikolaJokic on the floor. And I don't
have the numbers in front of me, but I would dare say that when
you look around the league for playerswho played the most minutes, he's got
to be in the top five he'sgot to be in the top five.
They don't have anybody they didn't have, and they thought they drafted, you
know, the guy to help gethim some you know, some rest,
and then all of a sudden, you have the freak injury. As far
(02:13):
as that goes, which is it'sjust gonna hurt them, you know,
a little bit this season. Butyeah, it did feel a little bit
like and especially with the way thatplayed out, because you play against the
Lakers and they're a physical team, and you play against the Timberwolves and they're
a physical team. You drew youwere a tired team who drew the two
most physical teams in the West,And you know, I can sort of
understand that. But I again, and this goes back to sort of a
(02:36):
little bit of the conversation we're havingthe last segment. You can't just set
the bar. Well, we'll getinto the playoffs and figure it out.
I mean, your your attitude alwaysdoes have to be win, right,
Well, yeah, you're that thathas to be your attitude. But I
think and I don't, I don'tknow this for sure. This is just
me speculating. Just the fact thatyou have arguably the best player in the
(02:57):
NBA in the Kolokis. So theidea is, okay, well you're striving
to get the number one seed. You realize no, you're not gonna do
that. So you don't want tostretch your roster out any further for any
guys, key guys, role guysto get injured. So he said,
well, we'll get into the playoffs. We have Nikola Jokic. As long
(03:17):
as we have both he and JamalMurray being our top two players, we'll
be okay. We'll be able toForenagle move pieces around. That had to
be the mentality. But you've ranup. The Nuggets ran up against the
Minnesota timber Boys, who the Timberwolves. They were put together by a former
(03:37):
GM for the Nuggets to beat theNuggets. And that's why when when the
Timberwolves defeated the Nuggets, they wenton to play the MAVs and they had
matchup problems because they were only builtjust for one team. But yes,
that happens. Man, that teamat times looked higher. The shots were
(03:57):
not what they were. I mean, hell, he saw Jamal Murray and
displaying an attitude that we've never seen. He's throwing us stuff at the ref
Yeah, that's frustration. Yeah, you're tired. Yeah, so yes,
that that's but you know what,it's par for the course because winning comes
at a cost, and that's thecost that the Nuggets paid. Yeah,
(04:18):
and I think that, you know, I think that that sort of brought
a wake up call. I thinkin terms of, okay, we have
to have either more depth, orwe've got to use more of the bench,
or we've got to find a wayto keep guys fresher down the stretch
if we're gonna continue to be achampionship contender while we're in the middle of
the prime of nikola Jokic, becausethey are, I mean they're smack in
(04:38):
the middle of Nikolai Okic's prime, right, maybe even past the top of
the hill, maybe maybe even coachingon the back side of it. So
you know, if you're going toif you're going to if you're going to
be a team that continues to competeat that, you're going to have to
find a way to, uh tonot run up against that. And you
saw I mean, you traded awayReggie, but you aw KCP kind of
(05:01):
trying to get out, you know, I mean, he was trying to
get out of Denver, and youcan sort of see why. I mean,
he got his ring fair, butI think he understood that there was
sort of a ceiling with what itwas that they had and they've reached it.
Well. With every team, inevery situation, sometimes you get to
a point where you where you're welcomeor things have run their course. And
(05:26):
obviously having a guy like Nikola Jokich, there's not a single NBA player who
I think what if they had anopportunity to come join the Nuggets as a
free agent, that they would enjoyplaying with the Nikola Jokic. But Sin
KCP has been here, He's seeinga lot of things change. He's seen
a lot of guys elevate their gameand a lot of guys stayed the same.
(05:46):
And he wanted out because he alreadyhas two of the things that most
people covered, and that's rings already. Yeah. Right, So now he's
going to Orlando where you know,if you toty honest, they ain't winning
anything. Well, well they're notwinning anything, but that team is really
competitive. No sleep on you knowthe all I do magic? Now are
(06:08):
am I saying that they're going towin a title this year? No?
I'm not saying that, but thatteam is going to be competitive, So
in his mind, I've already wonmy rings already. Let me go join
another team that has the ability tocompete and the ease and also get paid
at the same time. But thatwas a fundamental problem with the Denver Nuggets,
(06:29):
that they were showing signs of runningout of gas, because man,
it's tough as hell to win achampionship, and especially in the NBA where
they have so many freaking games.Yeah, which sort of segues to the
next thing we'll talk about. TheOlympics are about to start here. It's
tough to win a Championship's tough towin a gold medal. I think a
lot of people presume that the UnitedStates will win the gold medal in basketball,
(06:50):
but the world's catching up. Wesaw a South Sudan team give USA
everything they wanted vision game. Whatwas it last week? Yeah, and
South Sudan's barely been a country. They're the only team representing Africa in terms
of basketball, and they gave theUS. And it wasn't like the US
(07:12):
were just sitting there mailing it in. They gave him everything they wanted.
Ninso, but this is what DavidStern wanted. He wanted the expansion of
the NBA game globally, and youare seeing that true to form when we
watch some of these games, likewell, you think about the Michael Jordan
(07:32):
Dream team, right, and youcompared to this dream dream team, not
player player to player, but justthink about the countries and the players all
those countries that they played. Iwould dare to say that Michael Jordan and
I think with Larry Bird and MagicJohnson, the teams that they played against,
(07:55):
they had very few guys with NBAexperience, right, And it was
just something I think during that run, it's something like they played six guys
that had played in the NBA.Yes, in that whole run, right,
the team USA, now they're playingagainst the boatload of guys. Yeah,
there's a bunch of guys in theNBA. I mean you start off
with the MVP and Nicoli Jokich andSerbia there. South Sudan may not have
(08:16):
been a team that has a tonof NBA talent, but certainly collegiate basketball
players that were on there. Thegame high score was a guy I used
to play for Virginia and I believeit was Iowa or Iowa State. I
can't remember off the top of myhead, but but South Sudan is like
the country is younger than Brownni. They're younger. But here's the idea that
(08:37):
people sleep on with South Sudan. Those guys are very athletic and they're very
tall. And one of the guyswho was essentially a part of helping put
the team together play that Duke playedwith in the league lu Al Dang Right,
so he knows the thing too aboutbasketball. But the world is catching
(08:58):
up. There was a game andI showed you, uh, the US
played against Germany. Yep. Itwas somewhat of a tight game until the
end and then Lebron and they bailinghim out. To be honest with you,
Lebron's on five. I think heknows this is his last you big
stage moment, this is his legacymoment for Lebron James. And you can
see him sort of whatever you thinkof Lebron James in the end as an
(09:20):
NBA player, as an international player, you have to understand he understands he's
at the end, and you cansee it. The intensity is there.
It's sort of he's having a momentwhere he's you know he's he's channeling Kobe
in a way, have that magasality, because nobody had that mentality more than
Kobe Bryant. Nobody had that killerinstinct I'm gonna win, I'm gonna drag
(09:41):
you to a win than Kobe Bryant, and Lebron's got that right now.
Well, when I think about thelast memory of Kobe, I think about
the Olympic game where one when heran through pile Gassal. But he's he's
set the tone for every single player. If I don't give too Nicholas about
my teammate, my brother, Idon't care about anyone else, even you
(10:03):
guys. The only thing that mattersat the end of the day is winning
and watching. In the South Sudangame, Lebron kind of took over and
the sirs. The game against Serbia, he took over the game against Germany,
he took over right. So,like you said, yeah, he
was swept by the Nuggets at onepoint. But Lebron that we're seeing now,
to me is just like, enjoyit because we're not going to see
(10:26):
it for a long period of timebecause it is winding down for him.
But just think about how long he'sbeen in the NBA and he's still able
to do this at a high level. Not you know, this isn't.
I mean, Larry Bird on theDream Team was gutting it out through back
pain and did put in productive consThis is different than that. This is
a guy taking over and willing youto wins against teams that are a lot
(10:50):
closer in competition level than what theDream Team was up against. Well,
and this is where when you thinkabout we always talk about superior athleticism,
but when I see what Lebron isdoing, I'm thinking superior mentality. At
some point, you have to beable to fight through those moments where you're
(11:11):
tired and that pain is kicking inbecause it's physical, meaning as though you
are your cardio is not there orsomething from a body standpoint, it's bothering
you. This dude is fighting throughthat and that and he isn't. Lebron
James is energizing this Team USA groupjust like Hobe did when they won the
(11:33):
gold medal. Yeah, the SouthSudan thing was so fascinating because, uh,
South Sudan's the Vermont has the lowestGDP of any state in the United
States, and his GDP is sixtimes South Sudan's South Sudan does not have
an indoor basketball court in its borders, which is crazy, does not have
Let me repeat that, South Sudan, Okay within one point of beating Team
(11:54):
USA, does not have an indoorbasketball court in the country. That's fascinating
and big props to those guys forbeing able to do this. But this
run up to the Olympics, othercountries are saying not just the fact that
(12:15):
we have guys who have competed inthe NBA against the current guys who are
on Team USA, but just said, well, we got a chance because
you're playing with fever rules. Youcan take the ball off the rim,
you can be a little more physicalthan regular NBA games. And then you
look at the three point shot line. I think it might be a little
closer if I'm not mistaken. Butthen the other thing that other teams are
(12:35):
factoring in. I'm sure the coachesare telling their players it's not as much
time, right, So if youcan go on a nice run and play
defense and force the team you weresaying turnovers, which Steve Kerr has come
out adamantly against, you have achance and that's kind of been the throwing
in the backside for a team yearsay and dare I say, a way
(12:58):
you can beat them because they havea tannency to turn the ball over.
What uh, what's your favorite Olympicsport to kind of watch with the Olympics
kicking off here? Uh, synchronizedswimming. Oh that's right, Yeah,
you are the synchronized swim guy.See, most people didn't think that.
I didn't. I tell you thatwas Yeah, it's interesting to me.
I I always had a soft spanand this is you know. Uh,
(13:20):
when I was a kid, Iwas way more into the Olympics, like,
way more into it. I thinkit's because family even watched it like
that. Huh, I's family watchingWell it was it was a girl.
I'll tell you what it was.I'll tell you exactly who it was too,
Dominic Mocianu. I had the biggestcrush on her. She's like a
little bit younger than me. Yeah, not quite a year yok at me.
I had the biggest crush on herin the nineties, like that was
(13:41):
so it was like Hall some dayyou yes, sold it right, But
I mean the Olympics back then youhad the dream team because it was the
first time you were letting professionals doit. You had Michael Johnson run a
track, you remember how and Ihad. I had Michael Johnson Nikes like
on the red, white and blueshoes. Yeah, I had those.
I had, you had, youhad the American female gymnasts that were you
(14:03):
know, yes, And so Idon't know, it feels like that the
Olympics back then, Uh, theUnited States, maybe we were more dominant.
Maybe it's a perception from when Iwas younger. I don't know,
but it doesn't feel like there's thismany identifiable stars now as there were then.
Now maybe that's a byproduct of we'llhave to let this Olympics run its
course and we'll have those, butit just doesn't feel to me like there's
(14:24):
I'm not as connected to it asI used to be. Well I was
at one point, but probably moreso now getting back engaged to it because
remember their campaign I think Nike Nikehad with Dan and Dave and then yeah,
I remember the catalon and one guydidn't even you know, make it,
so destroy the whole campaign. Butyou're right, it's just like any
other sport. You need your starsto help push said sport and Michael Johnson
(14:50):
was one of those names you saying, bo people tune in. It helps,
you know. I mean, thereare stars, but it felt like
there were so many more during theOlympics. And maybe part of it was
because some of those Olympics were inthe US. I don't know. I
don't know. Ninety two was whatBarcelona. I believe ninety six was was
Atlanta. I fell in love withthe beach volleyball of all things when they
(15:13):
were in Brazil. Yeah, andI was sitting there, go like,
man, I'm actually sitting here watchingpoint by point beach volleyball, right and
and being into it. Yes,but yeah, I don't. I mean,
you know, I got I gotuh. I went down the rabbit
hole and the curling thing for awhile, you know, and all that
kind of stuff. And I don'tknow why it fascinated me so much,
(15:35):
but it just, you know, you just sit there like you just couldn't
stop watching it. Yeah, becausecurling, all it is is like shuffleboard
on ice, right, That's whatit is. But the Canadians rule at
it for whatever reason, because it'sCanada. They got nothing else to do.
Yes, yes, we come backto the NFL six pack. Welcome
(15:56):
back to it, Broncos Country tonight. Benjamin Albrighten fergusungrat Smith here with you
am. I did by the textline that the US men won gold and
curling in twenty eighteen. Boy,that must have pissed off the Canadians.
Well, I think the bigger thingwas that they'd even medal that year.
They had one. The men hadwon three straight golds for Canada prior to
(16:19):
that, two straight silvers, andthey did not even place in peong Chang
in twenty eighteen. It was theUnited States winning gold. America, Sweden
and Switzerland were the other two medalists. Sweeten of course won gold in twenty
twenty two in Beijing. For theCanadians, that has to be equivalent to
the team you wus say, losingor not making the gold med around,
(16:42):
because this is what you do.Curling is what you do. It's in
essence Canadian, right. Well seeit'll be fast and furious, I guess
at this Olympics. But yeah, the Canadians finished in Beijing. They finished
third in twenty twenty two, andthat you know, that was their return
to meddling since twenty fourteen. Whenthey won gold. How do you look
(17:04):
at your father in the face afteryou lose in Curing. But the Swedish
team, I will say this, the Swedish team from twenty eighteen twenty twenty
two of Nicholas Eaton, oshcar Erickson, rasmush Rana, Christopher Sungrin and then
they replaced Henrik Leak with Daniel Magnusonwent from the silver to the gold.
Looked all that up during the breakto South Smart. Looked every bit of
that up during the break of SouthSmart. I had no idea what I
(17:26):
was talking about on the periodical table. I was really quickly. I was
like, a save this, I'mgoing to read this. No, the
Three Successes two thousand and eight,China was peak Olympics because they had every
live streaming, every event live streamonline for free. Nowadays, if it's
another time zone, the broadcast TVpre recorded clips. It a pay a
(17:47):
ton of money to get any streamingand it's not every event live. That's
probably a point. Yeah, beforemoney got involved, the good old days
of the internet. I guess reallyquickly. I think it was a China.
Jim Gymnast was kicked off the teambecause they're smoking with Japan. Yeah,
which is weird because you have aconvicted sex offender on was it,
(18:07):
I think Sweden volleyball, but forsmoking. Yeah, she got secretly for
smoking and this guy is a convictedsex offender who gets to compete. It's
not like she was smoking some finecheap was something like that. It was
a cigarette, a cigarette. Apparentlyshe yeah, violated the morality clothes or
something. Apparently she had some somebooze too, I guess against the rules.
(18:29):
Whatever it was, I don't know. But anyway, without further ado,
let's get our almost in an NFLsix pack. It's time for the
NFL six pad. I'm gonna takea lot there, insighted inside information you
can't find anywhere else. No.Six the top six NFL headline what von
Miller says he probably shouldn't have playedin twenty twenty three. If she looked
(18:52):
at the tape, you'd probably agree. Von Miller played like an over the
hill edge rusher last season. Madeno starts, played twelve games, so
action on thirty two percent of snaps, no sacks, three quarterback hits,
and three tackles. In his secondseason in Buffalo, Miller revealed Thursday he
probably shouldn't have played last season aftertearing an ACL he needs a right knee.
On Thanksgiving in twenty twenty two,the quote, sitting out is probably
what should have happened, But Ididn't want that to happen. I wanted
(19:15):
to be out there and play.If I was fifty percent, nobody was
going to stop me from being outthere, Bill Sheener, manager Brandon Bean
wasn't Nobody was gonna stop me fromgoing out there. But the truth,
just being honest with you guys,my knee wasn't a place where I could
go. I could move, andI could do the things I wanted to.
I could play, but that wasabout it. Miller, who was
thirty five, has had seven doubledigit sack seasons at one hundred and twenty
(19:36):
three and a half career sacks, finished with no sacks for the first time
since twenty twenty, when he missedan entire season with an ankle injury.
I'm von Miller, I'm measured bysacks, Miller said of his performance.
I only know one way to viewthings. That's most optimistic way. He
calls himself fully healthy now is practicingwith that limitation again, But it's a
big season for him if he getsanother opportunity to get back there. He
(19:56):
wants to get to the stated goalsto get to the top ten on the
all time sack lists, needs aboutfifteen sacks to get there. He's not
had more than nine and a halfin a season last five years, so
probably needs two more good seasons toget there. Can Von Miller crack the
top ten on the old time sacklist, man, He's gonna be really difficult
for Vaughn to do it because onceagain, and it's becomes really difficult as
(20:22):
you start your age in a gamethat's physical and you use your physical traits
and abilities in your younger age, being able to bend, get around the
corner, get off the ball, read snapcounts, and von although he's still
able to do some of those things, but you can't do them in a
high fashion. But here's the otherthing. Maybe he gets closer and I'm
(20:44):
just saying close, but that's basedon what Josh Allen and the offense does.
Because if the offense scores points, the other team, guess what,
they just can't run the ball, have a balance attack. It'll look entirely
different from the games that you playboy, I sent you one run the
balls, yes, and great balance. That was a great game ballance.
I ran up like eight hundred yardsof thirty six thirty three. That's a
(21:08):
that's great balance. But for vonMiller to do that, he's gonna lean
heavily on his office, and Idon't think Josh Allen de Bill's office would
be able to come through this yeartoo. Some sad news is Mike Ornstein,
a former NFL execut and marketing agent, has died. One almost intriguing
and connected figures in pro football inrecent decades. Via Jeff Duncan of the
(21:29):
New Orleans Times, Pekun former NFLexec and marketing agent Mike Ornstein passed away
today in his home in la Ornsteinpreviously served as the NFL's VP of Marketing.
He also represented running back Reggie Bushin two thousand and six, lining
up multiple marketing deals as he endedthe league as the second World Pick.
Ornstein was well known movement shaker andspark. By his representation of Bush,
(21:51):
he became closely tied to the Saints. Jeff Duncan notes he remained close with
Mickey Loomis and coach Dennis Allen.Sean Payton sent out a tweet just a
little bit ago. In twenty ten, he was sentenced to eight months in
prison for conspiring to scalp Super Bowltickets and selling fake game warn jerseys.
While serving his term, he reportedlysent emails to former Saints coachcart Broncos coach
(22:12):
Sean Payton promising five thousand dollars toSaints players who delivered hard hits to former
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and former Panthersquarterback Cam Newton. The emails came to
light during the league's investigation of theSaints bounty scandal. Ornstein was no ordinary
outsider, much closer to an insider. A lot of people who knew him
(22:34):
knew he's you know, gregarious, sometimes rather foul mouth, credited by friends
and detractors alike with having an uncannyknack for gaining access and generating lucrative deals
for his associates. You know,I wish his family, you know,
all the best, and he wascertainly someone that was well known around league
circles. Well, that was oneof those things when I saw certain games
(22:56):
on television or even the games thatplay and as a player, I do
recall seeing his face around a lotand you're like, wow, man,
you know who is this guy?Right? And when you involved in this
game, you get a chance toknow people on personal levels, both on
(23:17):
and off the field. And Idon't like to reflect on the negative of
any individual, especially in a situationlike this, So I'll just focus on
the things that he did well inhis personal life as as an agent and
how his clients spoke about it.Yeah, and everybody has ay. I
(23:37):
think everybody has a funny memory ofthe Ornie. It's just it's just kind
of you know, I think alot of people don't remember that he was
the guy from the emails, youknow, So that's I had to kind
of sort of include that context free. Kevin Stefanski and not offensive coordinator Ken
Dorsey will call the players to theBrowns. Kevin Stefanski teased a big announcement
last week, say would reveal whowas calling the plays this week that today
(24:00):
Brown's head coach, who will retainplay calling duties say quote, I'm going
to call the plays next year,So I'm going to get that out of
the way. I know everybody's interestedany decision I make for a football team
to take a lot of information inI try to listen to a lot of
people make decisions. Ultimately, whatI feel really really confident in is our
offensive staff. Feel strongly about coachDorsey and the entire staff, so we
will continue to be an operation thatworks together. It's never been a one
(24:21):
man show. The question was thebiggest one for the Browns as they began
training camp this week. After awildcard playoff loss to the Texans, Stefanski
fired Alex Van Pelt and hired Dorseyas offensive coordinator. Dorsey is a veteran
play caller. Stefanski has called theplays with the Browns since they hired him,
with the loan exception being the wildcard win over the Steelers of the
twenty twenty season, where he wasout with COVID. Van Pelt called the
(24:41):
plays in that game. This season, Stefanski will continue to send the plays
to the Sean Watson, who playedonly six games last season because of shoulder
injuries. Brown's finished sixteenth at totalyards and tied from tenth in points,
despite rolling with multiple quarterbacks including Watson, Dorian Thompson, Robinson, PJ.
Walker, and Joe Fla Bachool atleast starting one game. Head coaches calling
(25:03):
the plays. I mean, Iguess that's our prerogative. But if you
bring in a new offensive coordinator afterfiring your old one, doesn't that suggest
that you may want to be turningthat over. No, not necessarily.
I know typically you would think thatthat would be the natural order of things.
But Keva Stefanski, he's been aroundthe Shawn and Ken Dorsey and his
experience, he really hasn't. Soif you know the type of plays you
(25:26):
have on your roster and it seemedto be some kind of cohesiveness, you're
only bringing Ken Dorsey in to bringhis level expertise to just enhance what you
have, not to make the entirecake, but maybe be the icening on
the cap. Right. So thisis kind of that dynamic, and we
see it play a lot, playouta lot like this in NFL. A
(25:48):
lot of people think, remember,Ken Dorsey is the former Bills host,
So you was let go in favorof Joe Brady mid season last year he
was quarterback. Russell Willson missed theteam's first train in camp practice with a
tight CAF. Steelers have named Wilsontheir starting quarterback, but Justin Field's got
the first team snaps today, gildsaid it was good to get back out
there, knocked the dust off alittle. Felt like everybody's excited and anxious
(26:11):
to get back on the field.I felt pretty good. Tomorrow work again,
try to get better. The Steelerstraded with the Bears for Fields of
off season as they turned over theirquarterback room. Field, since the eleventh
overall pick in twenty one, startedthirty eight games in his career, but
as it changed, his approaches thebackup for the first time in his career,
saying he just tries to do hisjob for his teammates, try to
(26:32):
come out here the same guy everyday. I feel like it was all
right. There's always room for improvement. I got some good reps in for
sure. Wilson and Fields talked alot during the session, and Fields expects
Wilson's openness and they're budding friendship toremain all season. Despite his eagerness to
start again, Field said, anyquestion I have, I can always go
to Russ for advice. He's alwaysgoing to give knowledge, been in the
league long time. Any advice hehas for me, I'm always open and
(26:53):
willing to take that. How dowe feel about mentor Russell Wilson. I
like the concept because I mean,Russ seem to be that type of person
anyway, even though his way ofleading doesn't sit well with everyone because he's
not a yeller and a screamer, and sometimes you really don't have to do
(27:15):
that. But being able to bea mentor to a guy like Justin Fields,
a guy who has been heavily criticized. I know they not a huge
favor a favorite of yours, buthaving a guy who has seen his fair
share of criticism, I think thesetwo guys are going to lean on one
another. They're gonna need that.I think they're good for each other.
(27:37):
Yes, you know, I dolike whatever you think of and I've been
hard on Justin Field admittedly, butI think they're good for each other,
absolutely in them. Being good forone another makes a quarterback room better.
And when you think about why bothof those guys on the roster, it's
because the quarterback quisition was a problem. They're thinking, if we had decent
quarterback play, how far would theSteelers have gone in the playoffs. But
(28:00):
hopefully it's a great match for bothguys. I'm looking to see what they
do this season. Wilson Fields andthe Steelers will meet the Broncos here for
the Broncos home opener and we twoof the NFL Season five. Jerry Jones
has resolved in this paternity litigation andsays he's where he wants to be.
Week began with a contentious and emotionalday in court for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones,
(28:22):
who went from being the defendant inthe paternity case and defamation claim to
the plaintiff in an effort to provethe breach of an agreement that resolved praturnity
claims back in nineteen ninety eight. On Tuesday, before Jones was due to
testify, all issues were suddenly andabruptly resolved deadline, spurring actions as they
do. Two days later, Jonesconducted his annual training camp press conference was
asked about the litigation that delayed histrip to Oxnard. We got it resolved
(28:45):
like I wanted, Jones said.It was unfortunate, but it is resolved.
It was, of course, verysensitive with my family, very sensitive
with the nique publicity. It's ofall the Cowboys, but resolved satisfactorily for
all concerned. I won't be commentingany more about it. I'm certainly where
I want to be. Jones mighthave said just a little more than he
should have. He often says alittle more than he should say. At
(29:07):
the end of the day, hestopped sort of sharing any details about the
resolution. Alexander Davis is the womanwho dropped her effort to prove that Jones
is her father. Jones dropped hiseffort to a couple of one point six
million legal fees occurring in defending againstthe paternity claim, and the two sides
agreed to forever leave each other alone. Do we care that Jerry Jones has
a child that's his, that he'sbeen paying millions of dollars more for years
(29:32):
but he won't acknowledge. You know, I don't really care about it.
But it becomes news because you haveone of the more vocal and influential owners
in the game having issues that typicallywe see other individuals have. We've seen
players on the professional levels have thesetype of issues, but it's not commonplace
(29:52):
to see owners go through this typeordal. For me, I would always
say, man, that is af any situation, you guys work that
out. But if it is asituation where there is an agreement and you're
not holding up to your agreement asfar as paying. Uh, because you
do have a child that that becomesbecomes a problem. But this is and
(30:17):
should be a Jerry Jones problem. It shouldn't filter over to the extra problems
that the Dallas Cowboys have this year. Well, I don't know if you
saw his presser, it was prettycontentious. His media there in Dallas is
kind of fed up with his act. And you know, he and obviously
his son have been the you know, the de facto general managers there for
quite some time. The Cowboys havedone an excellent job in scouting. You
look at the players that they broughtin over the years, and you know,
I did Dak Prescott's, the MichaelParsons, ceed Lands, all that
(30:40):
kind of stuff. They're struggling tonow to try to pay them all.
And that's that's presenting a problem inits own right. And I think fans
are clamoring for Jerry and Steven tostep down and let Will McClay become maybe
the general manager. It's best inthis situation for whatever agreement financially for Jerry
to pay. Opposed to what happenedwhere she beating his daughter could go after
(31:03):
the Jones fortune. So it's bestto go ahead and do this outtlement because
you don't want to get the otherpart. Yeah, and he's paid millions
out to her. He threw hera Sweet sixteen party, paid for you
to throw it. He paid forit a thirty thousand dollars Sweet sixteen party
that was featured on a reality televisionshow, in addition to paying all her
education and millions of dollars over theyears as well. Six I love you
guys. Saw this or not,but it's safe to say the Raiders are
(31:27):
taking off the Kansas City Chiefs. At the Raiders' training camp practice today,
a fan brought a Kermit the Frogpuppet wearing a Mahomes jersey in a wig
demock of the quarterback's hair. Videosurfaced on social media Raiders safety Trey Taylor
putting the puppet on and saying I'ma B word to laughter at the background.
Someone else in the background says I'mhere, I'm here, referring to
(31:47):
Mahomes trash Talk director toward Max Crosbyduring the She's thirty twenty nine went over
the Raiders in twenty twenty two.Mahomes voice jokingly has been compared to the
Kermit the Frog Muppets character before BobbyStroup, who's Mahomes' personal trainer in Texas,
is tweeted, we will remember. In a reply to the video,
which was posted online. Malmes isten and two against the Raiders, but
(32:07):
Las Vegas won at Kansas City.Last season, Chiefs course won the Super
Bowl at Allegiance Stadium, their secondchampionship. Raiders coach Antonio Pierce appeared on
Crosby's podcast in February in reference tothe quote Pat Mahomes rules saying we got
to knock the head off the snakefifteen here, said Mahomes. The Chiefs
assuredly won't forget anything that's happening thisoffseason, and they do meet on October
(32:28):
twenty seventh. What do you thinkabout this? This video? It is
a very interesting one because every singleyear seemed like every single team ups the
stakes. Usually that's when the schedulecomes out. But to parade around and
torament with the krimende Frog, PatMahomes, no motivation, No, And
(32:52):
listen, I know Trey Taylor.I would advise against it. You know
how this works. If you're gonnawalk the walks you better talk to talk
And I'm sure if Trey is onthe field and we talked to Tray on
this show. Yes, and thereis a call. I can see Patrick
Mahomes audibly, just to prove apoint. Yeah, you see Hollywood Brown
(33:17):
running directly at Trey Taylor. They'retrying to find a way to get isolated.
Listen. But hey, if you'regonna go out there, you must
well go at the biggest dog onthe blot, and that right now is
the Chiefs and Mahomes. Yeah,it was. It was interesting. I
just thought it was funny because itwas Tray, somebody we'd had on this
show, of course, played anair Force and one of the Thorpe Award
and all that got on video callinghim Pat Mahomes a B word and in
(33:37):
a curve at the frog voice whiledoing a puppet. Yeah. I might
have to say trade man on thatone. Yeah, I think you might
have stepped in. Ye, yes, Let's see how it shakes out for
him. This is Debroncos Country toNight here on Kate Wait tax Ga ninety
