Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello everybody, and welcome back to another edition of Broncos
Country Tonight, some more late night post Rockies Broncos Talk,
and man do we have some big Broncos news to
get to today. Also some great training camp action. I
got to be out there yet again today under that
(00:21):
hot the Valley sun, Broncos Park sun, and it was
just another eventful Today was the first day in pat
so kind of got a different perspective on a lot
of the players and I'm excited to get into that
with all of you. But let's start off with the
big news of the day. Had a couple big points
in news. I think we'll start with the I guess
(00:44):
more positive end of the spectrum. Courtland Sutton is officially
locked up with the team through twenty twenty nine after
signing a four year, ninety two million dollar extension, which
per my C comes with forty one million dollars guaranteed.
This will keep him with the team up through his
(01:06):
age thirty four season, assuming he sees the end of it. Again,
the team can always move on from it earlier than that,
but Sutton won't be hitting free agency on his own
accord anytime before then. And I think this is great.
This will lock up bo Nix's favorite target for the
remainder of his rookie deal, and then a little bit,
(01:27):
I guess, an extra season after that. At that point,
hopefully some other younger top weapons have emerged. I think
there's a lot of reason to be excited about Pat
Bryant and Valet and Mims and even Troy Franklin with
the training camp he's having out there. But assuming any
of them are going to take over that Mantle is
(01:47):
the number one option next year, as soon as twenty
twenty six, when the team should, in theory be gearing
up for like a dar near a Super Bowl run.
If if they continue to take steps forward, I just
I don't think that's the position you want to put
yourself in. If one of those guys does take a
huge leap, great, But I don't think you want to
put yourself in a position where you're desperate for it,
(02:10):
or you're desperate to reach on a first round receiver
because you know, you let Sutton walk whatever it might be.
Now he's locked up, you have that number one option,
and you now have time to find another top target
for bow Nix over the next few seasons here or
hope that one of the in house guys develops into
being that option. But either way, you've built in that
(02:33):
assurance now and it should keep bow Nix's development on track,
which of course is the most important thing. And not
only was there chemistry apparent last year with you know,
Sutton being the most targeted and most productive receiver in
the offense, but it's also been evident throughout camp. You know,
you see those two relatively or regularly excuse me, off
(02:53):
to the side together talking about the different routes or
you know, you know what bow wants to see on
a given route, you know, depending on what the defense
is doing, depending on what the route concept is. And
that's something we really haven't gotten to see in Denver
from the Broncos quarterbacks and receivers in a long time.
(03:14):
You know that there's always been a new quarterback to
install or a new offense to install, and they haven't
been able to build on top of that foundation. And
they're finally able to do that now. Locking up setting
for the long term only ensures that they'll be able
to continue getting to do that. So again, I think
that's very very positive for the franchise. And again this
(03:35):
deal it's kind of long term. It's an incredibly team
friendly contract when you look at it. He's making twenty
three million a year, which at the time of signing
is tied for twenty or sorry not twenty there is
tied for sixteenth in the NFL, which is not bad
at all.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
You know, typically.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
We see these players when they get extended, you know,
they are signing at the top of the market, even
if they're not, you know, the highest paid receiver in
the league. They're signing it like the top of their
respective bracket wherever it might be. You know, because over
the life of that deal, it's going to become deflated
as the league's salary cap continues to inflate dramatically, and
(04:20):
we're going to have streaming money and new TV deals
coming in shortly that will only make the cap launch
up even more here in the coming seasons. So with
that in mind that these deals are typically look worse
at the time of signing than they end up being,
and this looks completely reasonable. It's another great signing by
(04:41):
the Broncos front office. It's tied with again, what Calvin
Ridley got last year from the Tennessee Titans when he
was coming off the fairly rough season in Jacksonville, definitely
a lesser season than what Cortland Sutton just turned in.
Member of the same draft class too, so they have
the same amount of mileage on them, and the cap
shot up dramatically in twenty twenty five. So when you
(05:02):
look at you know, how large is this contract relative
to inflation, and do it by looking at the percentage
of the cap it's taking up at the time of signing.
This is more like the nineteenth twentieth largest steel in
the league, which again is a great bargain for Courtland Sutton,
and not only for who he is as a player,
but what he gives you and what he provides bo
(05:24):
Nix with, So just in so many different ways, seems
like a great deal. The guarantees, right, we're not one
hundred percent sure on the structuring yet, but forty one
million in guarantees that's also very minimal. That ranks nineteenth
as well, I believe among all receivers at the position.
That's very easy to get out of, you know, knowing
(05:44):
what we know about standard contract structuring, the and what
Cliss has reported so far, those guarantees are likely front
loaded where the Broncos probably will be able to get
out of the Sutton contract if they want to after
the twenty twenty seven season, maybe even the twenty twenty
sixth season. So honestly, it's hard to find the downside
(06:05):
here unless you just are very low on Courtland Sutton.
They're paying him like more of a number two receiver
in that Michael Pittman Calvin Ridley tier, and that's I
think where Sutton deserves to be paid right now. And again,
even if towards the back end when he is thirty three,
thirty four, getting up there and more, it's starting to
look like a lesser player, they can pretty easily get
(06:27):
out of it at that point in time. So it
just again, it seems like a great signing by George
Payton and the Broncos front office, and they had some
ugly ones at the start of their GM tenure front
office tenure, you know, with Brussel Wilson, Randy Gregory, which
doesn't get his discussed as much, but was also a
pretty rough signing. But man, over the past year or two,
(06:50):
it has been home run after home run, and I
think one thing to also bring up in connection with
the Scotland Sutton contracts. I think this's just further evidence
is why the Broncos should be attempting to sign Nick
Benito and Zach Allen right now. Get those deals done,
(07:12):
because everything we've seen from the front office in recent
history is they're signing really talented players. You know, Quinn Minors,
one of the best guards in the league, Sertan, one
of the best corners in the league. Sutton, you know,
a franchise legend. Maybe he's not at a lead receiver,
but he's a very very good receiver. I think you
could say the same thing with Cooper, Jonathan Cooper, that is.
(07:33):
And all these contracts have been so team friendly in
a myriad of ways. Limited guarantees that aren't really screwing
you in any sort of way also allows you to
restructure the deal further and do some cap manipulation games,
locking up the player for a large amount of time
while not having to overpay or load up those guarantees.
(07:53):
So you're giving yourself a lot of team control without
putting yourself on the hook for all that much.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
And I mean those.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Themes are just in all the Broncos' recent contracts, even
their free agency contracts, like Brandon Jones or Talan o'hufongo
or Dre Greenlaw look incredibly well structured, not only from
the sense that, hey, these players have since played on
those deals and have wounded up outperforming where the salaries
were slotted in at and that's absolutely part of it,
(08:21):
but even at signing they've all looked good because, oh,
look at all these different mechanisms the Broncos have built
in so that if the deal does go bad they
can get out of it. It feels like they've learned
their lesson from that Russell Wilson debacle and now know, hey,
we got to protect ourselves on these deals. And so
with that in mind, if they're able to do it
(08:42):
to Sirtan and Quinn minors, why can't they do it
to Nick, Benito, Zach Allen. Maybe Zach Allen can avoid
it because he's proven himself as an elite defensive player
for a couple of seasons now. But Benito having his
one year, I mean, I bet it's a lot closer
to this Courtland Sutton number than it is to you know,
(09:03):
even like thirty five million. And I just would get
on that right now because if he proves it for
one more year. Okay, now you are talking about paying
him in that thirty five to forty million bracket probably,
and that's going to be very expensive. And also if
he proves it for one more year, that's not the
type of talent you let out the door. I know
we're all very excited about k Robinson and Jonah Ellis
(09:26):
and Dendre Tilman, and with good reason. I think those
guys look amazing. But if you have a edgrusher that
can routinely get you ten to fifteen sacks a year,
you don't let it out the building. You know, unless
you're the Cincinnati Bengals or whatever. You just it doesn't
really happen. So it just I don't know. It seems
way more likely to me that the Broncos, if they
(09:49):
decide to let the need to play this thing out,
I think it's far more likely that they end up
being on the hook for a thirty five forty million
dollar contract then it is that they a reach an
end point where hey, yeah, Benito had a great year,
but we're just totally fine with letting him walk, or wow,
Benito really dropped off.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Boy, are we glad we didn't give him an extension? Now?
Speaker 1 (10:10):
We can sign him to a bargain or just let
him walk. I think both of those outcomes combined are
less likely than Benito just having another good to very
good year and now all of a sudden you're looking
at a very expensive deal because the SAC numbers came
last season. But that was somewhat easy to predict because
(10:32):
as a rotational player in twenty twenty three, he led
the team in pass rush win rate and pressure rate
and like pressures and sacks per snap and all these
kind of underlying metrics looking at your per snap impact,
and so once they died up his playing time, it followed.
So I really think it's more of He's shown it
for two years now. The first year was just at
(10:53):
a much smaller sample size and a slightly worse version.
I don't think he's going to regress all the way
to like what he was a rookie. That seems way
or you know, suffers some devastating injury. I again, that
just seems way less likely then him cementing himself as
a thirty five to forty million dollar pass rusher. So
just lock it up, lock him up. Now, this certain deal,
(11:15):
doesn't that look like it's aged amazingly as Sauce Gardner
signs for thirty one million or whatever and Stingley's at
thirty million.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Quinn Minors same thing.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Look at the Guards signing this offseason and man, does
Quinn Minors deal look amazing? They could have had improved
another year, right, you know, he was only three years
into his career and had a really promising first year,
rough second year, and it kind of bounced back his
third year, but only one year in Champagne system.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
It was good, but it was two.
Speaker 1 (11:45):
Years removed from a pretty disappointing campaign, and they paid
him near the top of the guard market. They paid
him this year, it'd be twenty five would be you know,
the the what Trey Smith contract just darn near thirty
million dollars a year. So I just yeah, I think,
And the Broncos run office has demonstrated they recognize this,
so I think they probably get it done. But Zach
(12:07):
Allen and Nick Benito are almost definitely not leaving this
team as free agents in twenty twenty six. With the
cap going up, teams just keep all the players they
want to keep, and Broncos are probably gonna remember DJ Jones.
Everyone thought he was gonna leave. Broncos found a way
to keep him. They're gonna find a way to keep
Bernido and Zach Allen around, I'd bet.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
And it's just are you.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
Keeping him for relatively cheap or for contracts at the
very very top of the market, and if they're smart,
I think they lock him up now. A little more
somber news today on the injury front drews Anders. I
should also note, since it happened since the last recording
of the show, drews Anders was carted off the field
(12:49):
during Saturday's practice, which extremely disappointing considering the injury Lucky
had last year and just the slow start he's had
to have to his career because of, you know, moving
him around different positions injury troubles. Seems like this year
was maybe finally the year he's kept at one position,
was having good injury luck and then carted off the field. Fortunately,
(13:11):
his season won't be over. A suffered a foot tend
in injury. It seems like it might have been an
extended period of time and it will be. But Sean
Payton gave us a bit of a positive update today
when he told the media that Drew Sanders should only
miss the next four to six weeks. Now, if it's
on a positive end of that scale, he could be
back for week one. On the more negative end, you know,
(13:33):
maybe you were looking at week two, three, four, but
he should be back pretty early in the season. That said,
I think it is still concerning just because Drew Sanders
is a player that needs a lot of developmental reps
right now. Mental not sorry, Middle linebacker is such a
(13:55):
mental position. You know, you are the quarterback of the
defense and it's a position and Drew Sanders hasn't really
played a lot of He's raw in those more mental
aspects of the position. In terms of athleticism, he's right
there with Dray Greenlaw in terms of the best athletes
at that linebacker position, but he does not have the
instincts for it yet. And you're hoping that he can
(14:17):
kind of develop those over time as he gets on
the field and whatnot. And with that in mind, these
training camp reps are incredibly important for him because once
you're in the season, even if he comes back four
weeks from now, and he's back on the twenty eighth
of August, okay, at that point, you're preparing for the
Titans you're preparing to win week one, you're done with
(14:41):
the developmental reps stuff. Not that there's none of that,
you know, backup still get some reps during the season,
but they're far lesser. It's not about can we develop
our young guys at that point, it's how do we
win the game this week? And development and all that
stuff is secondary, and you hope it still comes as
(15:01):
a result of your work during the week. And I'm
sure Drew Singers can get some development in there, but again,
this is the golden time for development for him at
that linebacker position, and it looks like he's going to
be without it and he's going to have to try
and catch up during the season, which is kind attainable
but really puts him at a deficit. I think Lavelle
(15:26):
Bailey is the name to watch in the meantime as
someone who probably steps up and takes whatever drews Anders
was going to bring to the defense. He's not going
to have that same pass rush presence. I don't know
how the Broncos replicate that, maybe with some more safety
blitzers or something. But Lavelle Bailey, I think he's had
(15:46):
a couple solid days of training camp, when I've been there,
and I think you can trust him to do some
of the special team stuff.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
And just be.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
You know, I think he's their next best option, I guess,
is how i'd frame it. I think he's definitely looking
better than the other rookie UDFA options. He's not as
good as they nod, but he looks he doesn't look
lost out there. He's not a wow athlete, but he
looks like he knows what he's doing, he knows his keys,
and he's playing fairly fast out there. So I think
(16:17):
he's probably the next man up for the Broncos. Looks
like it's time for a break. Those are the big
news updates of the day. When we come back, we're
going to look at what happened on the field today
and some of my biggest training camp takeaways and observations.
Listening to Broncos Country tonight on KOA, We're coming up
after this, Hello Broncos Country, and welcome back to some
(16:45):
more late night Broncos Country tonight. After another Colorado Rockies game,
and after quite an eventful day for the Denver Broncos.
First day of padded practices was today. You also, of course,
had big updates Andrew Sanders and Courtland Sutton talked about
(17:06):
those two big news stories in the last segment. If
you missed it, make sure you're checking out Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Wherever you listen to.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
Podcasts on the KWAI Colorado website or on the iHeartRadio
app have all the Dvard stuff up there for you,
so make sure you check that out now. I was
thinking we would take a look into my training camp
notebook from the day where I'm writing down all my notes,
what I'm seeing, what's happening at Broncos camp. Exciting day
(17:36):
with it being the first day in pads, cut things
a little short.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
We had a little bit less a.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Team on teamwork then we've had at least in past
days and certainly the day I was there before.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
It was a lot more.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Individual stuff position stuff today. But still I think we
had some good observations, some interesting things to look at.
One thing that stands out, I'll open it up a
little more negative. I was a little underwhelmed with the
quarterbacks today. I thought Stidham was fine, but bo Nicks. Also,
(18:11):
the bar is just higher for bow this year. It's
not We're not having the Stidham verse Nicks competition. I'm
not comparing who's going to win the starting job relative
to what I've come to expect from bow Nix, especially
based on what I saw at Friday's training camp practice.
I thought today was a little disappointing. He definitely sailed
some passes on Saturday. It felt like he couldn't miss.
(18:32):
The accuracy was so dialed in. Or Friday rather, accuracy
was so dialed in. He was constantly hitting guys right
in the numbers, right and stride. It was just it
was a perfect practice. I was extremely excited this one.
You know, he definitely missed some shots that were there.
A deep shot to Pat Brian that he just sailed
(18:52):
by two three yards stands out in particular. But overall,
it just wasn't a very sharp day from bo. I
thought sam Ellinger, and my last training care review was
just overwhelmingly positive. I don't think I said anything about
anyone outside Lucas Kroll.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
It was just a very impressive practice overall.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Sam Ellinger stood out a little that first time, and
then today it really stood out again.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
That I think.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Shocking to say because I'm talking about Zack Wilson, but
he looks like a large downgrade from Zach Wilson in
that third quarterback emergency quarterback spot, and I'm sure they'll
keep him around, but.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
It just it looks so rough.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
I would really think twice about giving him one of
the fifty three roster spots. For those that don't know,
you have an advantage now with keeping a third quarterback,
which is you can activate them on game day. They
can be one of your forty six active players, except
they can be your forty seventh and it doesn't impact
the other players you're able to activate. But you can
(19:56):
only do that if they're one of your fifty three
rostered players and not off the practice squad or whatever else.
I would really maybe do the practice squad elevation thing
with him or something. I really don't know, but it
is the arm just really stands out, as you know,
lesser than I think. You saw receivers multiple times on
(20:19):
downfield routes waiting for passes to catch up to them.
That was a little disconcerting. And then there are other
times where you can see he's not able to see
over a coach or an offensive lineman or whatever. He
is a bit of a shorter quarterback, and I just
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I don't know if.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
He's so great that you need to really protect him
and make sure he gets one of those fifty three
man roster spots. You know, you also don't want to
get caught in a Kendall hidden situation. It's great having
that emergency quarterback. He is, of course still a quarterback,
but it just I don't know. I've been very underwhelmed
with Sam Ellinger. Not that it's that important, but that's
(20:58):
one thing that stood out to me. Sticking with the offense.
And this is a rehash of what I said on Friday,
but it just continues during true Evan Ingram and Troy
Franklin are incredibly impressive in terms of weapons. Troy Franklin,
I think had the catch of the day today. Hard
to tell because it was on the far sideline. If
(21:19):
it was inbounds or out of bounds. I personally thought
he was out right or next to me. I believe
Henry Chisholm. I'm not sure who exactly was, but thought
he was inbounds. So you know, dealer's choice on that one.
We have no instant replay, but either way it was
through contact from I believe Riley Moss might have been
(21:41):
Reecee Taylor or something, but through contact at the catch point,
he's bobbling the ball. The corner's right there making a
play on him. He's trying to you know, tight rope
the sideline all in the meantime, and he managed to
corral the ball haul it in. And I think in
that one play there was so much about why you're
hearing all of media so excited about Troy Franklin at
(22:03):
this training camp. The physical difference where he's not this
being pull anymore. He's got some muscle on his frame
and he looks like a larger receiver. He's now able
to play up to that six' three frame that he,
has and he doesn't seem to have lost any of the.
Speed and that's so huge because in the, past even In,
oregon when he's going up against pac twelve, corners.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
The speed was not enough to counter the lack of.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Strength you, know he really struggled to get off the
line of scream and she struggled to make plays at
the catch point if it wasn't wide wide. Open and
now with having a little more physical, strength he is
making catches when you know there's a little more traffic
around the catch, point and that's huge to see. That
then also the hand eye. COORDINATION i don't think AND
(22:55):
i was asking some people that were There saturday WHEN i.
WASN'T i don't think anyone is seeing a drop From
Troy franklin or like an on target pass that falls.
Incomplete he's been money on all his targets so, far
which again you absolutely love to. See and again coming
up with a tough catch like the ONE i just
described where he's bobbling. It that demonstrates some improvement with
(23:16):
hand eye, coordination maybe some improved, confidence and if he
can piece those things, together it would be massive for The.
BRONCOS i was Telling Ryan edwards this. WEEKEND i THINK
i was discounting his chances of making an impact for
The broncos offense this, year WHERE i was putting all
of that weight On Marvin bims's, shoulders, like, Man Marvin
(23:37):
bim's better step up because it's not going to Be Troy.
Franklin and now watch, it you, know to be that
kind OF z, receiver that vertical field, stretcher you, know
And mims has had a great, Camp but now That
i'm Seeing Troy, franklin this new version Of Troy. FRANKLIN
i think it could be him. TOO i want to
see it when the lights get, brighter you, know do
(23:58):
those drops crop back up once we're in a game,
setting whether it's regular season or. Preseason you, know time
will only tell. There but he looks dramatically. Different and
then another guy who's already received plenty of praise for,
me BUT i thought had another great day to, Day Evan.
INGRAM i, mean he just constantly is standing out for
(24:19):
the right. REASONS i think he's going to be very
productive in this. OFFENSE i Think Sean payton's making him
a real focal. Point it's also something the offense just
hasn't been able to exploit at all in these past
couple of. Seasons Lucas kroll was the leading receiver at
tight end last season for The broncos and he had nineteen.
Catches SO i it just is something they have not
(24:42):
been able to. Exploit and it looks like all the
joker billing was for good. Reason he is i'd say
the number two target in this offense right, now trailing only,
sudden and he looks. GREAT i think the red zone
stuff looks. GREAT i think his connection with bo looks
very natural and the athleticism he holds is on full
(25:05):
display during this period of the off. Season just a real,
amazing like impressive athletic. SPECIMEN i think he should have
a very productive year for The broncos this. YEAR i
really would expect him to be the second most productive
receiver in this. Offense you, know maybe That mims Or
franklin Or valet could any of those guys could get
(25:27):
in the way of. That but IF i had to bet,
Money i'd say it's going to be of an. Ingram
last OFFENSIVE i tried to watch the offensive lineman some,
today but they're still with the limited amount of team
drill stuff. There there wasn't a ton of offensive line
takes even with the pads coming on.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Today but.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Last couple offensive notes, Here Pat, BRYANT i THOUGHT i
had a really good. Day he had some impressive downfield.
Grabs Caleb lohner's highlighting some rookies. Here he looked really.
Good he's a guy who we're not seeing the finer
detail stuff right. Now you, know we're not seeing a
lot of isolated blocking reps from him or stuff where
(26:09):
we can really figure out how far along in his
development he. Is BUT i think one thing we're able
to check the box on right now is he looks
a lot more natural in his athleticism for you, know
somewhat of his his kind of crazy frame and length
and all. That he's a lot more fluid and smooth
THAN i think anyone expected for his, size and even
(26:32):
in terms of stuff of you, know making the, catch
transitioning with the ball from a receiver into a, runner
it looks really good AND i think he gives me
a little more confidence that maybe he can make an
impact earlier than. Expected and the last, thing the running.
BACKS i really was watching the running backs. TODAY i
know there was some talk About Audric estimate. POUTING i
(26:52):
didn't see any of that On. FRIDAY i asked, around you, know,
hey did anyone see this On saturday or Even? Friday
MAYBE i missed. It then no ONE i talked to
recalled seeing any of that From, Estimate and TODAY i
was very intentionally keen in on what's The estimate doing between?
Drills you, know when he's not in the, game when
he's standing off to the, side is he? Pouting is
(27:14):
THERE i don't, know even like some sort of bad body.
Language he looked like any other dude out, there you,
know committed to try it his. Best you, know there's
some dead time where you're not in the. Game but
it's not like he was looking down or looking at
LIKE i really don't know what he's doing that you
could even frame as negative or problematic or immature or.
(27:35):
Pouting he just looks like any of the other you,
know ninety players out there going about their business doing.
WORK i JUST i did want to comment on. THAT
i don't see that being a very real story. NOW
i do think one reason he might be disappointed IS
i do get the vibe That djaliel has the leg
(27:58):
up on him right. Now you, know IF i had
to predict what three running backs make the roster right,
NOW i THINK jk AND rj are clear favorites is
to be those top two, guys and THEN i think
the third one is a little more up for. Grabs
but right, Now i'd Say Julie old definitely has the
lead on, estimate AND i can. Change we're very early in,
(28:20):
camp BUT i would be worried about IF i was,
estimate especially With watson And miday having a few good
days of camp here in a. ROW i you, know
it could get a little dicey for, estimate even THOUGH
i don't think there's any maturity concerns at least That i've.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
SEEN.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
Jk DOBBINS i thought looked really good. Today he doesn't
look like an older back that's had all these. Injuries
he had plenty of juice. Today the vision is really
apparent with, him especially after The Javonte williams years here In.
Denver you, know he's finding good cutback, lanes you, know
pretty productive runner down after.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
DOWN R.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
J harr is an exciting. Specimen he's just he really
is a bowling. Ball he's a bowling ball that just
got hurled down the alley at top.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Speed.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Man he's lightning, quick but just a ball of mass
and muscle that's low to the, ground AND i think
it's going to be very tough to tackle even when
we do get into you, know more heavy contact. SITUATIONS
i just he he looks very. Exciting i'm starting to
feel a little bit better about the running back out
(29:29):
look for The broncos weapons in. General it just it's
looking good for the offense right. Now AND i feel
good about that linebacker though you, know already touched on
The Drew sanders injury update last. Segment one thing that
might impact That Alex singleton left practice early. Today he
(29:51):
was holding his. Hand you, KNOW i don't know if
that had anything to do with, it but left practice early,
today was walked out with a. TRAINER i JUST i
you got to worry about that, stuff especially now you
Know singleton's had a few injuries over the last few.
Seasons obviously THE acl last. Year greenlaw has had a
few injuries over the last few, seasons and now With
(30:11):
sanders out for a month month and a, half and
even when he gets, back you, know he might still
be picking up aspects of the. Position you got to
worry about the depth. There AND i do wonder if
The broncos look to bring in another, body even if
it's a younger developmental, option just you, know so you're
not so close to having to rely on some undrafted
(30:33):
rookies in a really big spot because After Lavell, bailey
who's now the number four, guy it's a drop off
two undrafted. Rookies and you, know Even Lavell bailey's an
undrafted second year. Player SO i do think they might
want to make another move. There before he left Those
singleton was having a great day Though greenlaw looks awesome
to those guys are bringing a lot of juice to
(30:55):
that linebacker. Room you, know both of them have engines
that never run, cold flying all over the field making.
PLAYS i think that's exciting to. See Jade baron didn't
stand out to me a ton On, friday really stood
out for me. TODAY i thought he had a very
impressive day of, practice moving around the secondary a, lot
(31:16):
WHICH i thought you love to, see you, know getting
different spots in different cornerback rotations with different. PLAYERS i
think that's good to, see you, know demonstrates how smart
of a player he is that they're already able to
deploy him in those variety of. Ways he's clearly picking
up the defense fairly. Quick and then when he was out,
there he was making good plays and physical plays too
THAT i think you really love to see from Your.
(31:37):
Nickel one play in particular that stands, out.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
He set the.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Edge it was a outside run and he set the,
edge you know from That nickel spot bottled up the
run for a, loss AND i Just i'm very excited
About Jade. BARON i think we'll get a better read
for what he does when the live bullets are flying
and you're in, game BECAUSE i think he's a very good,
(32:03):
athlete but so much of what makes him a special
is the mental stuff and the.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Instincts and he.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
Kept getting himself in position today like, right and you're
just you're not fully hitting guys like he was in
position and today to deliver a real blow To Evan
ingram on a throw across the.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Middle then he didn't do. It he pulled.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
Up he did a like little spin Around Evan. Ingram
But i'm, curious you, know once you're in game and
he's not gonna spin. Around but is he able to
lay a guy Liking Evan ingram out or you, Know
Travis kelsey Or Brock. Bauers is he because we know
he's physical based on the college, stuff but is he
physical enough to perform some of those, crazier even more impressive.
(32:43):
Feats Hugh ROBINSON i thought was good, today you, know
and Then i'll go to deef or special teams actually really,
Quick Jeremy crosshaw could be a bit of a secret
weapon for this. Team you, know you're Getting Darren, rizzy
one of the best special teams coordinators in the. LEAGUE
i think he'll make sure that special teams unit keeps.
(33:05):
Singing And Riley DIXON i thought was good for much
of last. Year he had a couple of ugly, games
but for the most part he was pretty Good crosshaw
though there's he was having punts THAT i KNOW A
rod timed one at like five.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Point six, second five point three.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Seconds excuse, me we both timed won at five point,
zero had a. Couple almost every kick he had was
over four and a half, seconds WHICH i think is
about the league. Average just he has a boom and,
leg he's getting good distance on, him and the riders
that were, there we're all saying, like, oh this is
kind of a lesser day for. Him so, again let's
(33:41):
see if it happens in. Game you, know you got
to make sure he's not outkicking his coverage and all.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
That it seemed good, today but that could be very.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Exciting you, know it's a, punter so only so, exciting
but The broncos might have a long term answer at
that punter position locked up for the next several seasons
if he keeps looking anything like. This as exciting as
training camp, was though even more exciting with some of
the big updates we got about The Denver broncos, today
(34:09):
some big injury, updates some big contract. Updates stick around
after the break for more of that On Broncos country
tonight ON koa
