Speaker 3 (00:24):
I UH today was the big boat.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Next day, bo Nicks had his UH his best practice
so far, multiple people with with eyes on have all
all intimated and suggested the same.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
You know, there's there's some great clips out there.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
If you guys starts around the usual cast of characters,
you can see some great clips out there.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Both throw one to Marvin Mims.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Greg Dulcic did, there's some there's some good highlights out
There's good to see bou getting kind of that that
good day in there like that too.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Think he think he needs.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
To string together a couple of those, and once he starts,
then I think this thing really starts.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
To take shape.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I you know, I still say that if the season
started today, Jared said, it would be the starter. But
Bonnicks is starting to put a foot forward, and that's good.
You want to see growth, You want to see momentum
like that.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
You want to see him start to take the reins
and do that.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
He's to be fair, he's going to have setbacks between
now and then. There are going to be down days.
We're going to have those, So we don't need to
as much as yesterday. I was trying to say, don't
panic too much in the moment with you know me
saying that, you know Stidham's got more committed the offense
at this point, that.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Bow will get there eventually.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Now, we don't need to make sure the pendulum swings
the other way too far where we're anointing bo Nicks
after one day we make you need to make sure
we're not doing that. So you know, let's let's keep
the hands on the wheel at ten and two and
keep driving this thing forward and it will it will
all work itself out the way that it is supposed to.
One of the other things out of camp today, Josh
Reynold's a bit of a bounce back day.
Speaker 3 (01:49):
He was dropping everything yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I mean he was dropping everything yesterday and then today
I came up with some big catches. He figures the
factor prominently for the Broncos this year. He'll be one
of the big four, you know in terms of receivers,
and uh, you know, good to see. Good to see
where we're getting past those drop problems. If that was
a one day thing and not not something that's plaguing
him throughout training camp.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Five six, six, nine year olds text line.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
A little bit, we're gonna play Ryan Edwards interview with
Broncos rookie pass russer Jonah Ellis. You guys want to
stay tuned for that here in just a little bit.
Quinn Bailey hurt today, take it off in an ambulance,
Wishing Quinn Bailey the best.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
That presents another interesting sort of roster.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Rostering challenge, I guess for the Denver Broncos because that
injury looked like a season ender.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
We'll see how that goes.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
But that presents another issue for the Broncos in terms
of depth alone the offensive line. Talk to a couple
of people today about the corner situation, and I don't
think that you know. Something that I'd put out there,
which came from a suggestion from someone in the know,
(03:10):
is more realistic than perhaps we're giving credence to. And
that is the idea that the other corner position, that is,
the one not occupied by Pats or Tam and Jaquan
McMillan could be a platoon, could be one of the
young guys kind of sort of between the twenties with
Levi Wallace take it over in the red zone. Wallace
has the best ball skills of any of them and
(03:32):
the best instincts, but maybe lacks the long speed that
guys like Riley Moss and to Murray Math has bring
to the table.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
So if Boss or math has can prove they're.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
You know, they're good enough to hold it down between
the twenties, you might have a bit of a rotation
there as far as that stuff goes.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
So looking forward to to getting some more clarity on that.
I'm just at the point.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Where I'm starting to get excited for preseason football. You know,
we got a Hall of Fame game coming up, We
have got preseason action coming up, and it'll be good
to start seeing football again. Practice is good and gets
you sort of back in the swing of things, but
you want to see game situations because some guys, some
(04:14):
guys just are gamers. You know, some guys just and
I you know that term is sort of nebulous, but
some guys just have the ability to turn it on
when the spotlight's on, when the light's the brightest.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
And we've seen that.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Whatever you think of Tim Tebow and I think he
was an atrocious quarterback in the pro game.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
He did have that whatever that is, whether.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
It's a mentality, whether it's a whatever it is, he
had that when the lights came on all of a sudden,
you know, he found he dug deep and found that
extra whatever to make things happen. And so I want
to see who that is for the Denver Broncos this year.
You know, who are the guys that when the lights
shine the brightest of the ones making the place. Who's
the guys that are making the place we saw you know,
(04:57):
it's a quarterback position. Whatever you thought of his tenure
in overall, Russell Wilson brought this team back in games.
The ruckus is the number one scoring offense in the
fourth quarter when he was the quarterback in the entire NFL.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
And it's not because teams were in prevent defense or whatever.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Had somebody try to argue that with me, and I'm like,
that's it's not even retally true. They were only get
blown out in like two of those games. The reason
they were able to come back is because the games
were close enough that they were able to come back.
So it wasn't just teams in prevent defense, which really
has more to do with the yardage that it does
with points. And the Broncos are the number one scoring
offense in the fourth quarter when Russell Wilson.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Was the quarterback. But Russell's been that guy. He's a gamer.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
When the lights turn on, you know, he generally comes through.
We've seen situations where he hasn't.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
You know.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Obviously there's that Super Bowl through the slant to in
the Malcolm Butler interception.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Your boy here lost a ton of money on that.
I readily admitted.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
You know, we saw now it wasn't necessarily his fault,
but you know, Lucas croledon box out against the Texans,
and you know, if he had used the body like that,
Russ could have put the ball up there and could
have been a touchdown.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
They could have won that game.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
But we've seen we've seen gamers like that before, and
I'm interested to see you know, who who is going
to be that going forward for the Denver Broncos o.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Our good friend Ryan Edwards got.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
A chance to talk with Broncos rookie edge rusher Jonah
Ellis h Jonah, Jonah talk to us when Ryan after
you got drafted, and that was that was a lot
of fun. But Brian had a chance to do a
one on one with him today and I think we're
gonna go ahead and play that interview.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Now, all right, Jonah, tell me a little bit about
how the first few days of training camp have gone
for you.
Speaker 5 (06:35):
Yeah, I mean they've been one really well. Learning the playbook,
you know, kind of installed it all during OTAs and
now we're just kind of really getting it down as
you know as a position group and really getting it,
you know, really learning from Baron and Coop and per
Nick all the order guys in the room really helping
us learn and understand the playbooks that we can play
fast and not think so much.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Did you get any advice from many of your family
members your dad about what training camp is going to be?
Speaker 5 (06:59):
Like, yeah, me, how long it is that you know,
you got to be mentally prepared for like all the
meetings and how long the practices are, and you know,
you've got to be locked in the whole day. You
can't really let your mind so if you're going to
be missing out on some sort of information, so compared.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
To what they've told you, and then what being out
here is this is the speed of the game a
noticeable difference for you from what you experienced in college.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Yeah, for sure. I mean, like the whole offense moves
so quickly and so efficiently, and they all know what
they're doing so well that you know, in college you
get like every once in a while, you know, people
are coming off the battle sore. Out here, it's really
all they're all smooth, they're all powerful, they'll all know
exactly what they're doing. So you really got to match
that and exceed it to you know, make place.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
What's some of the feedback you've gotten from some of
the coaches as far as you know, technique stuff that
you can continue to prove on.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Yeah, for me right now, I'm struggling to running my line.
I just need to you know, really uh get my
foot down, get my restep in and really push off
the ball and stop stattering so much at the line.
That's something I'm struggling with something I'm going to fix.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
But I noticed when you out here not only we
saw you know OTAs, but also during training camp.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Man, your motor is unmatched. I mean that's something that
I think. It sounds to me like something you pride
yourself on.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Yeah. Actually today I was pretty disappointed with myself because
I wasn't running to the ball like I usually do.
So I'm gonna fix that for sure. But yeah, I
would say usually I have a pretty good motor. It's
just today I was in my own head. I gotta
fix that, but I'll be good.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Was it just things weren't quite going the way you
wanted them to, like like you were getting blocked a
certain way.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Was it?
Speaker 5 (08:29):
Yeah, I don't know what it was. It was just
like it was almost like I felt like I was
doing my job and then I wasn't. So it was
like just something that that I got, you know, in
my head, and you know, I just gotta watch that,
you know, next play. Coop was yelling at me, hit Jona,
like next play. You know, I gotta like really take
that to heart and just be like, okay, watch that
play and move on to the next. So I can,
you know, keep the energy and keep the momentum of
(08:52):
with the defense.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Would have what it was the relationship been like with
some of the guys in the locker room, especially they
had rushers.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
Yeah, I mean it's been great. I honestly love this
group so much. It's it's always fun. But when it's
time to get serious, we get serious. And you know,
the older guys really do like, like I say, right
next to Kooper Baron, so like if I ever have
a question, I was leaning over asking them. And coach
can be coaching someone and those who will be coaching me,
and you know, it's just a great environment to be
in to have those guys with such good experience to
(09:18):
you know, really developed me as a player.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
What's it like being going from college where you have
to be a student and you also have to be
an athlete, so this is your full time job. This
is all you do. You're watching tape, you're working on
your body.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
What's that? What's that like?
Speaker 5 (09:32):
I mean, I love it. It's I mean I hate school.
You know, you had to do it to get through.
But you know, football is what I love to do.
So to go watch like film and try and watch
what I did wrong and try and correct that. It's
just like something that you love to do. And I
mean everyone who's here loves to do it.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
You know.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
It's not like you get here without loving what you do. So,
I mean I love it. It's my favorite get a walk.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Well, thanks say saved my life. I appreciate that last
couple here before we get stung. You have to the
first preseason game coming up in a week and a half.
I know for you guys that there's there's still a
lot of training camp practices.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
But just as you're kind of.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Maybe think about it a little bit, like have you
envisioned on what that first experience is going to be
like walking into an NFL stadium and playing in front
of NFL crowds?
Speaker 5 (10:19):
I mean, yeah, I'm really excited, to be honest, I'm
just kind of focusing on like camp right now. I'm
really trying to get that playbook down at one m
a today and I really got a lock into that
so on game day I.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Can be better.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
Yeah, what's some of those things that coach Advance Josephs
has sort of said to you is I mean, again,
the guy knows a lot of defense, and we keep
hearing about this attack style defense that's out here, So
what is that coaching that you've been receiving from him?
Speaker 3 (10:46):
And the tack style defense?
Speaker 5 (10:47):
Like yeah, I mean, like I was saying earlier, it's
really like just getting off the ball and really running
off of it. In college, I would kind of more
just like sit out on the edge. You know, I
had the edge, but I wasn't like helping with that
vega but wasn't doing none of that. Whereas here it's
like I'm trying to win through the guy, so I
can set the edge with him and help with.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
That be gap.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
So that's really what it is. Coach is like, and
that's everyone's kind of mentality, is like you're getting so
much pushback that you can to gap it. So he's
not telling us that we're too gapping, but I mean
it's you're getting so much penetration that you're allowed to
make plays.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
You got anything picked up of your skit? Yet, do
you have to do a skit for further actually failed?
Speaker 4 (11:23):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Oh no, I went up there.
Speaker 5 (11:27):
The same mountain high and.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
That's a good song.
Speaker 5 (11:30):
Yeah, but they started the song I wasn't ready class
and restarted and then we we can't do that and
so then it was his off beat.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
Yeah it is what it is, all right, man, Hey,
thanks so much and I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Thank you, jon Ellis off the beat and his rookie
skitsing it ain't no mountain high enough. That's the kind
of hard hitting, big jay journalism that we do around here.
Ryan Edwards a great interview though though with with with
Joe Ellis, love to love the points he was making
about you know, we're not calling too gaping, but it is,
and that a lot of what they're saying, the language
that's coming out of the verbiage really goes back to
(12:07):
something that that I talked about for months, and that
was that this defense is having a dynamic shift this year.
They're not running the same things that Vic and Agerald
were running that that Vans tried to sort of have
some continuity on last year. They're going back to a
more attacking Wade Phillips style Vans Joseph's style defense, and
(12:28):
I think Broncos fans are gonna be a lot happier
about that rather than the the bend, don't break, you know,
quarters match tight front stuff that they were running the
last couple of years. When I say tight front. I say,
I'm saying T I T e AS and a zero
tech and two four eyes. But I think that I
think Broncos fans, in my opinion, I think Broncos fans
(12:50):
are going to be very happy with this defense this year.
Speaker 3 (12:53):
A lot of this is with the caveat.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
You know, it's early and barring injury and all that,
but if it stays healthy, I think this defense has
potential to be the secret weapon.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
That defensive line is good. It's very good.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
And I can't say that enough because you know, all
eyes are on the quarterback right now and all that
kind of stuff, and everybody's.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Ignoring the defense. The defensive line is very good.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
It is it is wildly different than it has been
the last few years. And they are able to get push.
They are they are able to get after it. And
so I'm excited I think to show you guys to
see in preseason games and as we get on into
get on into the season, what this defensive line is
capable of because they're capable to get push and and
this offensive line is now no slouch. I mean, you
(13:34):
got Quinn Minor, It's have been powers. Garrett Bowles on
this line like it's it's no slouch. This defensive line
is able to get that, and they're able to get
it against our guys. They're gonna be able to get
it against defensive lines that are that are lesser like
the Raiders and and and to an extent, the Chargers,
and although they've got better on the line. So you know,
I think that I think that I personally am excited
(13:55):
for that, and.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Then that will free things up for guys off the.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Edge, guys like Jonah Ellis, who's going to be a
situational pass this year, Nick Benito, who you're hoping he's
got to just a back tighteness, a couple other things,
hoping he gets past all that is able to be
his healthy self because he's gotten stronger and he's gotten
better every year. And then you know, coops look pretty
good out there in practice as well, so and you know,
you don't want to forget about Baron Browning obviously.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
So I think that.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
This defense, specifically the pass rush portion of it, has
a lot of potential to surprise or catch national pundits
off guard that weren't expecting this defense to be as
good as it can possibly be. And I do believe
it's going to be vastly improved. So I think you're
going to see a defense that maybe may be able
(14:42):
to carry this team a little bit in the early
In the early goings, you're not having players who have
to think about it as much. I mean when we
had Vance come in and take over for for a
Varo and you kind of try to blend things a
little bit. You're trying to stay continuous on the terminology,
and it causes both the play caller and the players
to think a little bit.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
You know, we had a saying when.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I was in the Army, and you know, they they
sort of adopted the football world that's slow as smooth,
smooth as fast, you know. And so when you get
the reputations down at all clicks and you start you
get everything down, you're doing it. You're doing it slow,
and then you can just naturally speed it up, do
it from instinct. Guys aren't having to think this year,
and I think that's going to be I think that's
going to be that much.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Better for the players this year as well.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
I think we're still we're still sort of looking at
the other corner, you know, Ja Kwan and Patsertan are
going to take the slot in the in the in
the starting quarter. But I think I think we're going
to see a bit of a platoon over there, and
I do believe that this defense is going to be
pretty formidable if it if it stays healthy, five six
six nine zeros text line, come up with the news.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
We'll hear more of the fire out there, if you guys.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Last night I had the window open at the house
and the smoke was was sort of pouring in, and
so I had to shut the window. I like to
keep the window open and I get fresh air, but
I couldn't do it last night. You guys out there
being affected, and obviously there's people's homes that are being
affected that are closer to it, but this this far
away from it. You know, air quality was affected. So
you know this is a is a big thing. And
we'll continue to keep you up to date right here
(16:11):
on KOA where we keep you up to date on everything.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
That's why we're a news, talk and sports station. Five
six six nine zeros A text line.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
I want to answer you guys questions about training camp
coming up here.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Can't wait.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Training camps powered by Chevron Colorado and the Sporty Pickle
Bar and Grills Official Training Camp Bar and Grill, Kiawa
Sports Networks five minutes from Camp eighty six to forty
South Peoria.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
Those Sportypickle dot Com. They got pickleball courts in the bar.
So if you like playing pickleball, you're like drinking. Sounds
like the best of both worlds.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
When we come back, we'll ask your questions from training camp.
This is ne Broncos Country and not Otka Way.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Welcome to it Broncos Country at tonight.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Benjamin Albright, Grant Smith, the Man, the Myth, the mustache
down here at Broncos Park, powered by Common Spirit at
Dove Valley. Got quite a few text messages. We'll get
to those here in just a second. Five six nine
zero is the text line. Okaywait Training Camp power by
the Sporty Pickle Bar and Grill and Chevron Colorado. As
we told you about, we appreciate all our sponsors out here.
(17:11):
From the four to one zero, I am pumped about
the season, ready to put the past. The review mirror
feels like this is a work in progress, but the
coaching will be good and Nicks will eventually thrive. Look
Out for the twenty twenty five season. That's from franket Texas.
I tend to agree this is a season where you
(17:34):
want to be competitive as a football team, and you're
gonna be. But this season is more about figuring out
we know who are We know who our core players are.
Now we're expanding that a little bit with the draft
class that we just had.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
It's it's a Sean Payton.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
George Payton thinks it's a found foundational draft class for
where they want to be in three or four years,
and they've said as much publicly. But I think it
really is about that. This is about, Okay, now we've
we've got most the players that we need here. Now
we start to figure out, you know, what this thing is,
and that way we can start hitting our window next
year or the year after. And so I think that
(18:11):
the idea with this season is to return to winning.
It's not necessarily. I mean, you always want to win
a championship, you always want to win a Super Bowl.
You're gonna you're gonna say that, You're gonna state that.
But I think if you're being objective about it, I
think you look at this season more as we want
to return to winning.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
This season. We want to finish above five hundred.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
We want to figure out ways to pull out games
the win, games that we should pull out, games that
we shouldn't. We want to string together a few wins,
you know, at a time. We want to learn how
to win consistently. We want to get into winning habits
and get back to winning. And I think that needs
to be sort of the unofficial slogan for the fan
(18:58):
base this year, get back to winning. Because the Denver Broncos,
prior to Super Bowl had a pretty proud tradition of winning.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
I mean, under mister b.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
This was a gold star franchise, you know.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
And I think they can get back there. I think
the Denver BROSSI get back there. I hope they get
back there.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Would certainly make it a lot more fun to cover
a winning team. And I think, you know, I think
you have to learn how to win. I think there
is something to that. And I think part of what
Sean Payton wanted to do this offseason was get rid
(19:37):
of the last vestiges of what has been the post
Super Bowl hangover for the Denver Broncos, and so I
think he wants to re establish or establish I guess
as it were a new culture here of winning and
learning how to win, not being complacent, not settling for
(19:59):
good enough enough isn't good enough, And I think it
can be difficult to do that. Sometimes you got to
turnover roster in painful ways in order to do that.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
I think at the end of the.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Day, this team is going to be better than people
think it is.
Speaker 3 (20:16):
I don't think. I mean, look, I.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Always hate limiting somebody. I don't want to sit here
and say, well, this is in a Super Bowl concenter.
I hate limiting a team like that. But at the
same time, I don't think anybody seriously thinks that that's
what this team is this year. But I also don't
think anybody who's around here and has seen it thinks
that they're a four and a half, you know, five
and a half win team, whatever the sports books have met.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
I just don't.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
I think that this team has the ability to be successful.
But I think you have to define what success is
realistically for this team this year, and I think that's
to get back to winning. I think a nine win
season is successful for which you especially if you roll
it out a rookie quarterback and you know, and trying
to build off of that, we don't know what the
(21:11):
ceiling for bo Nicks is. Broncos thought very highly of him.
He was the third graded quarterback on their board. That's
not spin.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
That's not.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Saying something after he was drafted to make it look better.
I had that tidbit before they even drafted him. They
were saying that before he was drafted, before they even
knew they were getting him, they had rated bow Knicks
(21:47):
very highly. And I think, specifically when the confines of
what they want to do with this offense, that he's
a fit. You look around in the league at some
of the other rookies you know right now, I've been
hearing nothing but good things about Kaylee Williams up there
(22:08):
with the Bears. Haven't heard a whole whole heck of
a lot about Jayden Daniels and Drake May. I've seen
the video of JJ McCarthy. It hadn't been pretty so far.
Pennix is not going to see the field because Kirk
Cousins is going to be the guy unless he just
gets hurt and bow Head his ostensibly best day as
(22:33):
a Bronco today. So I think that this team is
positioned to make improvements in the one loss column. Do
we really think this team is going to be worse
than it was last year? Does anybody think that? I've
been out there and I don't. I don't think it's
(22:58):
realistic to think that this team is going to take
a giant step backwards or anything. And by the way,
I see you on the text line there, Brian, I
can't respond to you.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
I'm on my phone. I'm not on my laptop. Just
decided to crap out on me here.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
The Quinn Bailey thing, somebody's asking if that really affects things.
I mean, I kind of. You know, that's depth. Quinn's
been around. He's found a way to stick around for
a while. So I hate to sit there and say
that's that's not an issue, because you're talking about a
guy who.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Has stuck around on this roster has found a way
to do that. I think.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
The the other thing to keep your eye on, you know,
everybody talks about the quarterbacks and all that is the
run game. The combination of Javonte Williams, Audric Estime and
Jelia McLoughlin is going to be a big thing for
Denver this year. Estimate wasn't the uh the earliest pick
(24:15):
in the world. He had a highlight yesterday with the
truck stick on Omar Brown. I think everybody's seen that one.
He's not a blazing speed guy, but he's got good
speed for size. But when you see him, like when
you see him up close, you're like, man, that's a
(24:35):
running back. He's just he's just built different. You think,
you think Javonte is built thick, and then you see
Audric Estime. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can
do in the combination there with the with the run game,
and yeah, I'm deliberately leaving some magic p run off here.
I like some ran a lot we've had him on
(24:57):
the show. I just think he's the odd man out.
I mean, the del Baraccos save three million dollars by
moving on. And I'm not sure that he brings anything
to the table that they don't have in terms of
skill sets with the other players that he used him
primarily as a pass catching back in hurry up type
(25:19):
situations in the fourth quarter, but Javonte had something like
sixty seven percent of the carries from week ten on
of all running backs. So I just don't see a
scenario in which you can make unless there's an injury
that you keep some JP Ryan around in lieu of
(25:43):
Estimae McLoughlin, and certainly not Yavante, who has looked revitalized
five six six nine Zeros text line. If you guys
haven't seen Dead Pull of Wolverine, you need to get
out there see that. By the way, I'm not going
to give you any spoilers. I had a chance to
(26:04):
see it over the weekend and it was absolutely hilarious.
Good buddy Mario Matanza got a chance to see it
last night. We're so he was texting me about it. Finally,
it's its tough when your friends haven't seen something. You
got to sit on it a little bit, you know,
you don't want to give the spoilers away. You guys
should get out there and see it. Grant, have you
seen it?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Saw it on Sunday? There you go. Where would you
would you rate that as a as a top movie? Oh? Yeah,
it was hilarious and gory.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah, a little bit, a little a little bit and
you know, a little profane and all that. So I
wouldn't take the kiddos to see it necessarily, but certainly
hilarious for me my brand of humor. I will say,
and that's probably the best way to put that. I
just really want to see what this team can become,
what they are capable of. And you know, I talked
a little bit about in the first segment about sort
(26:51):
of how I want to see who steps it up
when the lights come on. Broncos have a long, rich
history of guys doing that in camp and becoming guys
Julia McLoughlin sort of last year. I mean, we saw it,
you know, a bit in camp, but I kept trying
to tell you guys about it, and then you saw
it in the game and it was undeniable. We can
go back to Terrell Davis making his bones on, you know,
(27:12):
on special teams before becoming a Hall of Fame running back,
Chris Harris, undrafted position switch, an undrafted safety. We go
on and on with guys who did that, and I'm
(27:32):
interested to see, you know, sort of, out of the
names that are not top of mind, who can separate
themselves and make this team.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
And we've talked recently about.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
How making the fifty three doesn't necessarily have the same
meaning it used to thanks to the gigantically balloting practice
squads and all the call up rules and all that
kind of stuff, which the Broncos have been more of
the better teams in the league, and manipulating by the way,
stashing skill position players and skillfully rotating them through in
an effort to, you know, to kind of expand the
roster artificially, as it were. That might be one of
(28:08):
the only things they've done masterfully over the last decade.
But they have done that really well. I'm interested to see,
you know, I've talked to Supplace because I sort of
took that hypothesis and talked to a couple of players,
and there's still I'll say this, there's still a matter
of pride in making the fifty three. Like guess, it's
a different It's the difference between flying first class and coach.
(28:29):
You're still on the airplane, but it's a different world.
That was the metaphor we settled on. So there is
something to making the fifty three. It's not I don't
want to be dismissive in saying that making the fifty
three doesn't matter anymore, which my language may have veered
(28:52):
into from a roster construction standpoint, from a front office standpoint,
from a fanship state point, Making the fifty three isn't
as big a deal to the players. It absolutely is,
so let me make it a point to clarify that.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
But there have been.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
The Broncos have a long history of undrafted players coming
in here and somebody making some noise and making this team.
I mentioned Julia McLoughlin, Phil.
Speaker 3 (29:26):
Lindsey, Chris Harris.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
It always seems like there's somebody that that sort of
cream rises to the top and we sort of see
who that is. Oftentimes that has been running back. Since
I pointed out it's a pretty crowded wide receiver room.
Had a conversation with somebody yesterday and today about that.
How many wide receivers a they gonna keep? Might they
(29:51):
keep four running backs if Watson gets healthy, especially with
their eyes on kick return with him? How many corners
are they going to keep? With Traymont Smith being a
standout special teams type player wide receivers, you've got the
big four in Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds, Marvin Mims, Tim Patrick.
Then you've got the two guys you just drafted in
(30:11):
Troy Franklin, de von Valet, Will Jordan Humphrey figures to
be a part of this. That's seven receivers right there already,
and typically you're keeping six or seven. You know, we've
seen some teams keep five at times, but usually that's
with an injury and then the you know, so it's
(30:35):
gonna be interesting to see exactly the makeup of this
Plus you've got, you know, the tight end position. If
Dulsi can stay healthy, he and Lucas crowl look good
out here. Troutman offers something the other two don't. Nate
Atkins is more of an H back, and we know
how Sean Payton loves having that. He you know, he
(30:57):
had Taysom Hill to play multiple roles, but he had
Taysom Hill at at H back spot and he loves
having an H back. Does that edge to fullback out?
Can Adkins be a full back and an H back?
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Yea?
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Are you keeping Mike Burton around? I think there are
gonna be some tough decisions this year.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
Because it's not.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
The bottom part of the roster is better than it
has been, and so it's going to be tougher to
make those decisions. It's not as easy as it's been
in years past. We just kind of took the best
forty five players and then you know, the next eight
and kind of kept going from there. The talent level
on this football team continues to get better, and all
(31:42):
those people out there that were bashing George Peyton certainly
aren't doing that anymore, or if they are, they're doing
it so quietly so as not to be laughed at
by everyone else. I remember when people were saying what
a huge mistake it was to draft Pat Sir tand
over Justin Fields. Sir Tad is morphed In, one of
(32:05):
the best corners in the game, and Justin Fields is
a backup who was traded for a sixth rounder to
the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he's backing up the guy the
Broncos just paid seventy million to get rid of. George
Payton has done the best that he can with what
he's had five six, six nine zeros.
Speaker 3 (32:27):
A text line. I had a question about what if
bo Nicks isn't it.
Speaker 2 (32:34):
I don't think that's entered the equation, and I think
you gotta I think you'd have to prove that he
isn't over the course of this year, and if he's not,
I do believe the Broncos would go back to the
Well then what I mean by that is drafting a quarterback.
But I don't think that's a consideration. I think you
have to let that play out. And I think we're
(32:57):
I think we're way ahead of ourselves in going down
that road.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Broun Becaus have all their draft picks back.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
This isn't a situation where we're still paying off the
rust deal, pay it off Sean Payton. So I don't
I don't think. I don't think that's the road we
want to go down. I think where we want to
be is, hey, what is bo Nicks? And then once
we've sort of identified that after watching enough games, then
(33:30):
we're like, Okay, now we know what he is.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
Is this enough to win with?
Speaker 2 (33:37):
And if that's the case, you roll with him, And
if it's not, then you know, you evaluate your options.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Sean Payton's going to be around. This is his team.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
He's going to be around at least another year beyond
this year, just by virtue of the contract that he
signed in the sunk cost in terms of what they
traded to get him. And I understand that fallacy, but
still he is gonna be here. It's gonna be his team.
