trade him, they'd be willing to entertain. Some people actually

Terry is one, he's our guy. We're not trading him,

if someone makes the right call, it makes the right offer,
all of that change.

that was the exact number that I'd quoted back in
February to roughly twenty three million a year. He was

business of football, and I know the idea is that

you don't want to play a wide receiver in his thirties.
But the idea is that this is not your average

thirty year old receiver. And then you look at how
productive he's been from a number standpoint quarterbacks that he's had.

You look at the guys that have been throwing him
the ball and the numbers that he's put up, and
you're like, how you know, I mean guys like Sam
Howell and all that kind of I mean they had some,

people put up talking about with Courtland and Jerry Judy.
When you look at the guys that were throwing the

having some pretty subpar quarterbacks throwing him the football.

When a wide receiver who is in a scheme, offensive
line balance, quarterback deficient position, it makes it really hard
sometimes to evaluate them because some guys, you know, look
at Justin Jefferson and someone said, well, why is it
that he is the type of why receiver that he is.
You look at the system, you look at the number

of targets per game, how they utilize them, how they
move him around. And then also you got a quarterback
who wants to drive the ball and push the ball
down the field.

And sometimes with a lot.

Of these receivers, I mean, they don't get that acclaim
like calling Sudden, I think from a salary standpoint, he
may be I think eighteenth.

Something like that. Yeah it's not fifteen to eighteen story, yes,
something like that.

But once again, when you look at Calling his production,
you have to say, okay, well, how often is he
used within the framework of the scheme? And that changes
a lot and a lot of the perspective and the
viewpoint on the wide receiver. And when you look around,
you start looking at other players at the position.

Why is this guy deemed better than this guy?

And obviously you talk about speed, size and rot runner,
but other than that, it's like how many times are
you being targeted in a given game?

And that's going to be interesting because you know, they
went out and they got Debo to be the screen
you know, the screen game guy, and then what Terry
to be the vertical you know, the vertical guy. Well,
now you know they haven't been able to get that
contract to, you know, to where they want to. Everybody's
satisfaced you and I thought they were gonna get it done,
but they hit some some snag or some stall, uh,
and so it looks like they're not They're not quite

as close and now of course he's demanding the trade.

What are your initial observations as we've about a week
under our belts with camp here?

Yeah, you know, I was interested today. It was funny because.

Yesterday we were all out to have that practice, that.

That padded practice there on Wednesday that was the longest
one of camp, and you really did just sort of
feel like, man, this is this is like different energy level,
different kind of physicality and just overall like quality of
sustained effort and performance.

That was actually like really cool to see.
Speaker 8 (16:49):
And you're thinking, man, we didn't talk to Sean Payne,
but you think he must have. He must have been
like pretty pleased with that with that practice. Then sure
enough he comes today after Thursday's practice still wanting.

To talk about about Wednesday.

You know, same thing with some of the guys that
we talked to, And so I just thought, like I
think That's one of the things that I've that I've
seen that's been unique about this team so far is
is they're just kind of dialed in in a way
that I'm like, since I've been covering this team, haven't
seen right like, you'll have days, you'll have days where

there's there's just there's some flashes and some of those things.

But just the kind of consistent, like.

Raised standard that you can tell just by the way
that they talk, uh and interact with.

Kind of at a different level that they're that they're
competing for bigger prizes.

Look at the wide receivers, obviously, you know Ben has
his list of the top six guys who are going
to make it, and you have a lot of college
and free agent guys still trying to find a way
to showcase the ability and say, well, okay, well, don't.

Has there been a guy or two that you've seen
of the free agent wide receivers who've kind of flying
some practice so far?

Yeah, I mean like that that's a tough position, Nick.

As you know, like to make the team. You know,
we don't know whether they'll keep six.

I mean when you have a guy like Trent Sherfield, who,
by the way, has been you know, one of their
most consistent guys, maybe their most consistent guy in camp
so far this side of Troy Franklin in terms of
just the every day getting open, making big plays.

You add him to the mix of a.

Group that already includes Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Franklin, you
know who I mentioned, Devon Vley, and you have a
group that's pretty well solidified.

But there could be another spot there, and certainly guys.

Are going to be competing to to be on the
practice squad of a team and have that chance to
continue going on. I think all four of those undrafted
guys that they have have sort of taken turns. You know,
Kyries Rowan had a really good OTAs.

Last a little bit early camps had some.

Drop issues that have hurt him a little bit, but
then you have you know, a guy like Krwan Newton
come on the you know, the guy that played almost
i think sixth seasons that.

But the last couple of days it's been Joaquin Davis,
who I think I've heard his nickname among his teammates's legs,
because this guy's about you know, six foot five going
on six', ten with how long he, looks starting to
starting to make some plays the last couple of. Days
so it's it's been a fun group to. Watch and you,
Know sean talks today about like we're starting to get
close to those times of like joint practices and and

preseason games where it's like you get a little bit
of a clearer picture of what guys who are starting
to show some of that can actually, do.

Settings and So i'm really curious with that group because,

even though we're going through a heated contract negotiations. But
if someone makes the right call, it makes the right offer,
all of that change.

think McLaurin may be two years older than DK. But
for me, I think I don't think I know that
Terry McLaurin is a better route runner right than DK,

type of guy, then that's the direction going. Because even
though I know how how the negotiation works with the
business of football, and I know the idea is that
Terry McLaurin is now thirty years old, and ideas like, well,
you don't want to play a wide receiver in his thirties.
But the idea is that this is not your average

thirty year old receiver. And then you look at how
productive he's been from a number standpoint quarterbacks that he's had.

To say, he's quarterback proof.

You look at the guys that have been throwing him
the ball and the numbers that he's put up, and
you're like, how you know, I mean guys like Sam
Howell and all that kind of I mean they had some,
they had some throwing him the football.

But again that's another thing. When that was the same,

Excuse, but it was the same you know, points that
people put up talking about with Courtland and Jerry Judy.
When you look at the guys that were throwing the
ball those years, why the reason.

Why their stats aren't what they were.

But Terry McLaurin was still putting up the productivity despite
having some pretty subpar quarterbacks throwing him the football.

When a wide receiver who is in a scheme, offensive
line balance, quarterback deficient position, it makes it really hard
sometimes to evaluate them because some guys, you know, look
at Justin Jefferson and someone said, well, why is it
that he is the type of why receiver that he is.
You look at the system, you look at the number
(13:54):
of targets per game, how they utilize them, how they
move him around. And then also you got a quarterback
who wants to drive the ball and push the ball
down the field.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
And sometimes with a lot.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Of these receivers, I mean, they don't get that acclaim
like calling Sudden, I think from a salary standpoint, he
may be I think eighteenth.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Something like that. Yeah it's not fifteen to eighteen story, yes,
something like that.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
But once again, when you look at Calling his production,
you have to say, okay, well, how often is he
used within the framework of the scheme? And that changes
a lot and a lot of the perspective and the
viewpoint on the wide receiver. And when you look around,
you start looking at other players at the position.

Why is this guy deemed better than this guy?
Speaker 3 (14:38):
And obviously you talk about speed, size and rot runner,
but other than that, it's like how many times are
you being targeted in a given game?
Speaker 6 (14:45):
Right?
Speaker 2 (14:46):
And that's going to be interesting because you know, they
went out and they got Debo to be the screen
you know, the screen game guy, and then what Terry
to be the vertical you know, the vertical guy. Well,
now you know they haven't been able to get that
contract to, you know, to where they want to. Everybody's
satisfaced you and I thought they were gonna get it done,
but they hit some some snag or some stall, uh,
and so it looks like they're not They're not quite

as close and now of course he's demanding the trade.

under our belts with camp here?

Yeah, you know, I was interested today. It was funny because.

Yesterday we were all out to have that practice, that.

That padded practice there on Wednesday that was the longest
one of camp, and you really did just sort of
feel like, man, this is this is like different energy level,
different kind of physicality and just overall like quality of
sustained effort and performance.
Speaker 7 (16:47):
That was actually like really cool to see.
Speaker 8 (16:49):
And you're thinking, man, we didn't talk to Sean Payne,
but you think he must have. He must have been
like pretty pleased with that with that practice. Then sure
enough he comes today after Thursday's practice still wanting.
Speaker 7 (16:59):
To talk about about Wednesday.
Speaker 8 (17:02):
You know, same thing with some of the guys that
we talked to, And so I just thought, like I
think That's one of the things that I've that I've
seen that's been unique about this team so far is
is they're just kind of dialed in in a way
that I'm like, since I've been covering this team, haven't
seen right like, you'll have days, you'll have days where

there's there's just there's some flashes and some of those things.

But just the kind of consistent, like.
Speaker 8 (17:28):
Raised standard that you can tell just by the way
that they talk, uh and interact with.

Each other that that you know, it's.

Kind of at a different level that they're that they're
competing for bigger prizes.

And and you know that has to start somewhere.

And I think if they have the kind of season.

That we think it's possible that.

They could have, you're you're going to look back at.

Days like Wednesday and we'll come out of it and

Look at the wide receivers, obviously, you know Ben has
his list of the top six guys who are going
to make it, and you have a lot of college
and free agent guys still trying to find a way
to showcase the ability and say, well, okay, well, don't.

Count me out yet.

Has there been a guy or two that you've seen
of the free agent wide receivers who've kind of flying
some practice so far?
Speaker 6 (18:17):
Yeah, I mean like that that's a tough position, Nick.

As you know, like to make the team. You know,
we don't know whether they'll keep six.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
I mean when you have a guy like Trent Sherfield, who,
by the way, has been you know, one of their
most consistent guys, maybe their most consistent guy in camp
so far this side of Troy Franklin in terms of
just the every day getting open, making big plays.
Speaker 7 (18:39):
You add him to the mix of a.
Speaker 8 (18:41):
Group that already includes Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims, Franklin, you
know who I mentioned, Devon Vley, and you have a
group that's pretty well solidified.
Speaker 7 (18:51):
But there could be another spot there, and certainly guys.
Speaker 8 (18:54):
Are going to be competing to to be on the
practice squad of a team and have that chance to
continue going on. I think all four of those undrafted
guys that they have have sort of taken turns. You know,
Kyries Rowan had a really good OTAs.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
Last a little bit early camps had some.
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Drop issues that have hurt him a little bit, but
then you have you know, a guy like Krwan Newton
come on the you know, the guy that played almost
i think sixth seasons that.
Speaker 7 (19:18):
At Toledo had his days.
Speaker 8 (19:19):
But the last couple of days it's been Joaquin Davis,
who I think I've heard his nickname among his teammates's legs,
because this guy's about you know, six foot five going
on six', ten with how long he, looks starting to
starting to make some plays the last couple of. Days
so it's it's been a fun group to. Watch and you,
Know sean talks today about like we're starting to get
close to those times of like joint practices and and

preseason games where it's like you get a little bit
of a clearer picture of what guys who are starting
to show some of that can actually, do.

You, know in the full type of competitive.

Settings and So i'm really curious with that group because,
yeah they just sort of take and.

Turns almost you, know standing. Out so it's going to

Can carry that into these competitive practices and games coming.

Up talk With Nick, cosmider you, know The broncos got
the deal For Courtland sutton done looks like he lets
a little money on the, table but he comes back and
gets to Stay bronco a little while. Longer Zach allen
deal is nearing, completion not quite, there but but near
incompletion on that one as. Well Nick benino though riding
out the, market you, know and WHEN i think, wisely

so you look At Michael, Parsons Trey hendrickson out there
and neither guy. Signed that's gonna up the uh you,
know the top five average and that that'll play in
his favor probably a little bit more distant down the,
road but it looks like The broncos are pretty easily
getting the deals done that they want to get. Done
this is a this is a big turnaround for where
this franchise was just four years.

Yeah and the other part of that then is like
it's also great to have guys that you want to
get deals done, with you, know like this, time just
even a few years, ago like The broncos had been
in a stretch where after they Signed Courtland sutton And

one it was a long time before they handed out,

Done, Obviously patzertan was a no. Brainer Jonathan cooper the
way that he, started you, know twenty twenty four and
got off the, ground he became a guy that was
a high priority for them and got him. Done Garrett bowles,
again you, know having a having a strong twenty twenty
four and showing himself to still have a lot left

even at his. Age and now you get you, know
you Get Corland sutton done and to your, Point Zach,
allen probably right around the.

Corner it's it's one of those like proverbial good.

Problems to have of, like, yeah we have to we
have to balance these budget sheets for the for now.

And for the, future and that takes a lot of,

with a guy Like Jerry judy and ultimately decided that like,

Schematically and so he was another guy that you had
the chance to do that. With SO i think that
speaks to the job That George peyton you, know obviously
was doing in the draft already and then certainly the

way that he has collaborated With sean to continue to
bring guys both in the draft and free agency to
where you have guys that you do you want to,
Sign like how many teams right now are, saying like
went into the season, saying, man we got like four,
guys four guys that we want to get done or
could potentially get. Done like, again it's it just speaks
to the job that they've done building this roster in

relatively short.

Order well, then you, know being in the locker, room
it's always, about you, know, competition and sometimes that competition
extends back into our collegiate.

to kind, of LIKE i, think lend more voice to
those guys of, saying you, Know i'm not just promoting
you into these roles for name, only, like you, know

how do we want to look at this in terms
of changing up what we're. Doing AND i think that
that is sort of the result of some of that
where you are seeing more of this outside zone AND
i think the guys that the the the personnel that
they that they kind of targeted speaks to, that, Right
like our J harvey that one, cut you, know like
his ability to cut while he's moving and change direction

THAT i think will only serve.

year and make that jump to one of those young
wide receivers that we started to talk about from here.

you've seen so.

Like Troy franklin and the job that he's, done IS
i remember when.

Here you, KNOW i talked To Zach street because When
Michael thomas had his records set, year whatever year that
was twenty, Seven it all blends. Together but that record
setting year in terms of catches one hundred and forty,

Time you, know he's obviously had a pretty interesting career.
