Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to it Broncos Country Tonight Benjamin Albright, Gret Smith,
the Man, the Myth, the Mustache. Nowt here live at
Broncos Park, power by common Spirit Here at Dove Valley
five six six nine zeros A text line appreciate you
guys being along for the ride today.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Can't wait.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Training Camp is powered by the supporting Pickle Bar and
Grill and Chevron Colorado. It's a human energy company, the
committed to our local communities and safely delivering affordable, reliable,
ever cleaner energy. Interesting day now they're at training camp today.
Certainly if you were on Twitter, I guess my opinion
disagreed with several others. Maybe that's in the way that
(00:41):
I framed it. I thought today which was not a
padded practice. I saw multiple glowing, effusive praise of bow
Nicks today, and while yesterday was considered his strongest practice
as a Denver Bronco, I didn't see anything to really
(01:03):
glow about today.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
I saw made a couple of good throws.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
You know, a lot of what they did today was
was short field type stuff and zone red zone that
kind of stuff. I one thing I noticing about Bo
is that there are times when he'll throw the ball
behind his receivers. And I tried to make mention of that.
It's the reason that he had an interception in one
on ones. It's not not every interception in one on ones.
(01:30):
And again, you guys, anybody listening to the show knows,
I don't charte that stuff likes, there's no point to it.
But for contact sake, I did mention it today, Like
you know, this wasn't a miscommunication. There are There are
all kinds of reasons you can have interceptions in one
on ones, so somebody can run the right route miss
you know whatever. This was just the ball was put
in the wrong spot. In terms of the rest of
(01:52):
the day, there were two other balls that hit defenders
in the hands that could have been.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Intercepted.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
You know they weren't, but you would probably charted his
interceptions and it was the exact same thing. But both
of them were misplaced footballs in terms of where you
want to put the ball. Divide Valet had a touchdown
from bo Nix, so the results of the play was good,
but we value the correct process with the result as well.
And you had Diva Valais going from If you're looking
(02:25):
at the end zone.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
If you're the quarterback, you look at the en zine
going from your right tier left.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
You had the corner right there in phase, and instead
of throwing the ball and putting it out in front
of Valat to the back pylon where he would have
had nothing but grass in front of him, made an
easy catch and stride the ball was behind him to
where he had to turn and make a really good
play on the ball in order to make sure it
was interception. And you know, those things just kind of
(02:50):
jump out of me. But again, he's a rookie, like
there are going to be mistakes. I'm not expecting perfection.
I'm just I'm not going to sit there and be
effusive unless there's something to be effusive about. And I
didn't see that today. Now others claim to have saw that.
That's their opinion. I will happily civilly debate anyone on that,
and I'm sure we'll we'll talk about it tomorrow in
(03:12):
the medium. You know, media masses down there tomorrow. I
don't I do want to clear some things up to
I don't hate Sean Payton, I don't hate bo Nicks.
Sean Payne wasn't the guy I wanted to be the
head coach here, but that ship done sailed. That ship
is gone. Uh, And so I don't. I'm not gonna
gonna sit there, Billy. I'm not one of those people
who gets mired down and wallows and stuff or whatever
(03:34):
just because he wasn't the guy I wanted in the
hiring process, just like I wasn't I.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Didn't want Nathan Hackett. Nathaniel Hackett, either I get myer
down or bogged down on that.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
He is the coach. He's going to be the coach
this year. He's gonna be the coach next year, you know,
most most likely too. So uh, you know, live with that.
And as far as bo Nix goes, Uh, was that
my preferred move?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
You know, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I'd been telling every buddy since I think December that
there were two guys in this draft that really kind
of fit the mold of what it is that that
Sean Payton usually it looks for in a quarterback if
you go back and kind of look, and bo Nix
is the one that really jumps out at you. They
wound up, you know, drafting bow. He's here. So whether
you like the selection or wanted something else, like there's
(04:21):
no point in getting bogged down in that, there's no
point in wallowing in it or whatever else those here.
So you just have to judge him objectively on the
criterion that you know that is there. It's the same
criterion I judge Zach Wilson on and the same criterion
(04:41):
I judge Jared's did them on. And maybe there's a
little bit of a curve, like maybe I'm actually a
little bit harder on me. I make jokes at practice
that don't line up with that, but in reality, and
it came in my mind, I am a little harder
on Jared's di him because he's got a gears experience
in the offense. But it is, you know, I mean,
I guess, I guess I am struggling to see what
(05:01):
it is that everybody saw it was so great today,
and maybe that tomorrow I'll have everybody kind of explain
what it was that they saw that they thought was great.
Maybe I'm in the wrong, It's entirely possible. One time
I thought I was wrong, turned out I was mistaken.
But I think, you know, end of the day, I've
been more than fair about this, even with today, where
(05:22):
I disagreed that it was a great day for Nick's.
Even in my little write up there, I was positive
and effusive about several aspects of his game. I do
think he's going to be the Denver Broncos starter at
some point this year, whether that's to start the season
or whether it's later, I do believe he will be the.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Organization wants it.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
I mean, you can tell the comments that are out
there nationally on Colin Coward, Rich Eisen whatever. You can
tell that Sean Payton is deliberately leaking effusive praise about him. So, okay,
you know he's set in the standard there.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Sean Payton is not a guy who keeps secrets. I mean,
everything gets out. We saw that last year when he
was telling everybody not talk to media, and then he
was talking to anybody who would listen. We saw that
feature from Jarrett Bell where he talked about I put
a bad job, Nate Hacket, it done, and all that
kind of stuff. I used language that you typically don't
use about it. It's sort of one of those unwritten rules.
(06:18):
So it's not like, you know, Sean Payton's not out here,
you know, keeping state secrets or anything like that he
talks to media all the time. He's been in media,
he talks to media all the time. But I expect
bo Nix to be the starter.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
I'm not. Is this not hating on Bow or any
of that kind of stuff. I like Bonix just fine.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I just want the best guy to win, the interest
of full disclosure, I have a small, and I mean
very small wager on Jarrett's did him being the first
quarterback to take a snap? I took it just because
it was going off at plus six fifty, So I
put like a hundred bucks on it.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
And that was that.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
The one hundred dollars is not a wager that I'm
sitting there sweating if I didn't, you know, I was like, well,
I'll put it, take a flyer on this and if
it works, it works.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
If it doesn't, it doesn't.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
So but in the end, interest a full disclosure, I
want to make sure that you know that everybody knows
that'd be transparent and honest about it.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Five six six nine. Here I want to take you
guys's questions.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Ryan Edwards did get a chance to chat with Domori Mathis,
who is in the mix at corner for the Broncos.
Opposite Sir Tan and j Quia McMillan, and we have
that interview for you.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Now, tell me a little bit about how the Start
training camp has gone for you For.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
The first week.
Speaker 5 (07:26):
That's been going good. Just trusting myself, trusting my abilities
and you know, getting after it with the guys DVS
is a defense as a whole team.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
How do you feel like the competition's going there at cornerback?
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Is your innomate of rotation right now?
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Are you guys super friendly in that or is that
one of those things like maybe there's a little bit
of bragging rights at times.
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Oh no, no, no, we all as all friendly. We
got like a tight netted group. You know, obviously we've
been like that for a minute, but we're still like,
you know, just getting on top of each other, one
the best for each other, and you know, obviously it's
a lot of competition, but we're trying to competition brings
the best out of each other. So like we just
(08:07):
all just get out there and get the best.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Do you guys give each other some pointers?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
Some things you notice like hey, they get to this,
Riley gets to the sideline and you talk to him.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
It's simultaneous the same thing for you.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Yeah, we always helping each other. Like the other day,
I was helping Riley on his alignment on one of
his reps. I feel like he could have helped them
be better. But yeah, it's all good energy. Like we
got a good group of good people, and I think
that's where you start at with an organization, and like
when you're trying to get players, you start off with
them being good people.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
So we got a lot of.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Good people in our room, so that's never an issue.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
A lot of conversations this year about the conduity having
VJ back with for the defense.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
How much does that helped you?
Speaker 5 (08:47):
Helped me a lot? Coach. VJ is a really good coach,
really good play caller man. He just puts us in
great positions to win, especially at our position, Like this year,
he's making it more simplified for us to win and
just play fast. So I really enjoy that, and it's
you know, it's more easy for me to play fast.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
He said last year when he got here that he
was trying to marry a little bit of the previous
scheme up with his but this year we hear that
it's maybe a little bit more of.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
His scheme like it is in here.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
We're there's more attacking style, a little bit more of
the way Phillip's style of Hey, we're trying to get
as much pressure as we can. Have you noticed any
differences on the defensive scheme from what you guys were
last year to this year?
Speaker 5 (09:30):
I want to say it's a lot a lot of
things going on differently, but we kind of run some
of the same things, but we run them like different ways.
But it's it's not too much different. I mean, at times,
we're probably gonna be a little bit more aggressive sometimes
because VJ is aggressive minded, but for me, it's the
(09:52):
same thing. For real, I feel like it's easier, you
know what I mean, because I just know it's like
a clear direct standing on what I'm doing.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
So do you like more aggressive defense?
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I mean, again, from your position as a cornerback, it's
not necessarily rushing the passer, But do you like that? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (10:09):
I actually I love aggressive defense. I came from pitt.
All I did was prep right, and then like this
year he is also emphasizing us like pressing way more
because last year we just had like a little statistics
going on, like most of our reps when we was pressed,
balls weren't really caught on us, and like when we
was playing versus playing off, it was a lot more
(10:31):
like free easy access throws with thrown. So we're just
trying to press as much as we can.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
That's good last couple here for you.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
So when it comes to sort of your expectations this year,
you know you got to You've gotten chances to start,
You've been in a bit of rotation. Is that the
goal this year? Hey, I want to be starting, starting
cornerback in the league right now. I want to be
starting off as a PS two.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
My goal is to be the best version of me
that I could be played clean out here. You know, iviously,
I'm not gonna win every rep or have a good
day every day, but try to focus on one thing
to get better on every day and just be aggressive,
play smart, have understanding those situational things and what's going on,
(11:16):
and just be the best teammate I could be. That's
the best thing I could do right now to get
me better in this team, better team.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Inside the mindset of a quarterback for just a second,
you talk about how you know you just not You're
not gonna win, You're not gonna win every time, right,
there's good be times you're gonna get beat.
Speaker 4 (11:28):
How do you reset?
Speaker 3 (11:29):
How do you could turn the page quickly in that
not only just out here in practice field, but in
a game.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Think about where you messed up, chalk chalk it up,
and get better on the next rep. Don't don't bring
that mindset to your next rep?
Speaker 3 (11:42):
Do you use that sometimes to help some of the
younger guys that are out here, just like, because I'm
sure they have the same thing, because hey man, you're
playing college.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
You probably win a lot of reps in college. Get
to the pros. That doesn't happen as often, does it?
Speaker 5 (11:53):
Oh yeah, it's about every rep obviously, just the highest
level of football. So they everybody getting paid. So right,
sometimes I might be in a perfect position to make
a play and they make the play. Well, that's just
football play. We as as players and coaches. They want
to put us in the best position, and we want
(12:14):
to be in the best position. And but sometimes football
players just happened. But yeah, you just gotta have that
that quick mentality of next play?
Speaker 4 (12:23):
What is that?
Speaker 3 (12:24):
What do you know from this offense? So far as
far as the guys you're going up against the rush receivers.
I mean, you know these guys, some of these guys
you've been around, who's giving me your challenges specifically?
Speaker 4 (12:33):
What have you said of Josh Rental so far?
Speaker 5 (12:35):
Uh, he's been playing really good. I feel like he's
a bigger body, good receiver. He got good hands, and
he's like subtle and with his routes and getting out
of breaks and good body control. But all the receivers
they all have like different different types of styles, so
(12:56):
I feel like it's good setting a mix of different receivers,
like some of the rookies coming in like Troy, he
real fast, so it's a lot of different stuff.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
Very good, hey man, appreciate the time. Thank you so much.
Best luck.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
I think the corner battle is one of the more
interesting battles that's still undecided, And the way I see it,
the way they've sort of done things, might be some
kind of platoon. You know, matthis is a guy who
in his first start, was was his first significant action.
Speaker 2 (13:28):
Was really bad.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
There was so many flags, and then he got way
better that season. I mean you just saw the improvement,
and then the next season I just couldn't couldn't keep
that consistency going and kind of reverted. You know, we
saw that last year where you know, he lost the
job to Moreau and we went from there. I think
Mathis has all the talent in the world, is just
a question of putting it together consistently. I think this
(13:49):
scheme is going to be better for him going forward.
I know a lot of the players have talked about
Riley Moss and how he's looked out there.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And then of course you got Levi Wallace, who.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
I think has the best ball skills of any of
the three, probably becomes a guy who plays where the
field is shorter, while this doesn't really have the long
speed the other two two, and so you know, maybe
he hits a situation where when the field gets shrunk,
you put him out there, or when you're in specific
zone situations you put him out there and gives you
a better opportunity to kind of rotate and make plays
(14:18):
on the ball. I think I think you'll see a
lot of each of the three of them this year
one way or another. Uh, in that corner competition, they're
tan Ja Kwon, They've got the slot in the other corner.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
You know, positions kind of locked down.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
I thought Matt this, you know, I thought he mentioned
in that interview with Ryan, which I believe they'll have
up on.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Do you guys get that up on KOI Sports scrant Okay.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
I think that, you know, you're going to see more
of what we've talked about. Is this defense continues to
sort of change and evolve. In the last few years,
dating back to when Vic took over, we've sort of
had that quarters match and that tight front stuff and
you know, dropping everybody back then don't break it. I
think philosophically, you're going to see a wildly different defense
and I think it's going to be a strength of
(15:01):
this football team. I don't think that the defense is
going to be in any way a liability, you know,
and we've seen some games. We saw some games last
year where there were some struggles. I don't think you're
going to see that this team looks specifically on defense
a lot better than it did, and I think that's
going to be something that pays huge dividends. KWAIT Training
Camp is powered by Chevron Colorado and Sporty Pickle Bar
(15:22):
and Grills, Official Training Camp Bar and giril Okay with
Sports Networks five minutes from camp at eighty six forty
South Peoria where you go to sportypickle dot com.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Take a look for yourself. I mean, it's a bar's
got pickleball courts in it.
Speaker 1 (15:33):
They've got karaoke, they got all kinds of stuff, even
a black light pickleball court.
Speaker 2 (15:36):
Thing that they do on the weekend. So you want
to check that out.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
When we come back, I'm going to get into a
couple other stories around the league, and of course we've
got some Olympics stuff I wanted to get to.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I'm just kidding. I'm just trying to annoy Ryan on
the way home. We got more stuff for you after this.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Broncos Country to Night Live down a Broncos Park, Power
by Common Spirit, No Valley, Ben's beIN Albright, Grant Smith
back there admission control. I've been talking a little bit
about the never Broncos and this upcoming season. I'm going
to steer away from the quarterbacks for a little while
talk about a few other things. I think that this
(16:10):
is going to be an interesting cutdown day for this
football team because the talent on the roster is deeper
than it has been and I think you're going to
see some guys that are fan favorites. Some guys whose
names you recognize that are going to be cut when
it comes to cut down day and people can be
wait what, And I think that's going to be I
(16:32):
think it's going to be interesting because again, the talent
level on this team is continued to be added to
even the usual suspects of people that consistently Lamb based
George Peyton haven't been doing that lately because they realize
that the talent level that he has brought to this
team has gotten better. I think we're going to have
(16:56):
some questions at the running back and wide receiver room
in terms of who was going to be cut. I
think with running back it looks pretty obvious. It's something
I've said since back in oh god, well, uh March
May May. Back in May that some JP Ryan was
probably the odd man out. Javonte looks like he's returned
(17:17):
to form. Julia McLoughlin looks looks really good. Blake Watson,
an order guest to May estimates, looks good. Watson has
starting to get some reps. Now. He didn't have a
great day today, couple of balls hit him in the hands.
But I think they've got plans for him. The team
saves three million dollars moving on from smadjep Ryan and
it's a shame. I like SMA JP Ryan. It's a
(17:38):
nice guy, gracious with his time. Came on this show.
That's where we got that story about him holding up
the electric car when the lady didn't have the the
jack and had the flat tire, and he held up
the back end of the car with his bare hands
so that she could change the tire. And it's funny
because he tried to play it off like, well, it
was just an electric car.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
They way more.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
He tried to play well, it's not a big deal,
it's a smaller electric No, they actually weigh more. So yeah,
if they do move on, which it appears sort of
trending that way, that I'll be Sada Jay was a
pretty good third down back for the Broncos last year.
Pass catching back out of the backfield, pass protection was
was good. It was a smart car, but yeah, yeah
(18:26):
it was. It was, you know, just nonchal It was
a smart car that I held up for like an
hour so this lady could change retire.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Good lord, I got it.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
I appreciate somebody that humble about being that ridiculously strong,
but yeah, I mean it just seems fairly obvious there.
And then you look, there's there's an interesting situation developing
here with the full back. You know, do the Broncos
keep Mike Burton, who you know, Sean Payton loves, or
do they keep Nate Atkins who gives you value as
(18:57):
an H back and he's been getting a lot of
reps out there, relatively speaking. And the tight end room
has got one too many bodies in it. You know,
you've got Troutman who's your inline blocker. You've got Dulci
and Kroll who are more off the line wise, and
then you've got Adkins who can play in line but
also plays a little bit more that H back. And
so I think you're going to have an odd man
(19:18):
out there. And when you talk about Burton as a
fullback and Atkins at an H back and you kind
of combine these rooms, you've got one body too many.
And so I think that there's probably a cut coming there.
You save a little money cutting Burton, but you know,
maybe you bring ing back to the practice squad.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
In the wide receiver room, you've got the Big four.
We've talked about that Courtland, Sutton, Morvin Mims, Josh Reynolds,
Tim Patrick. And then you've got the two guys you
drafted in Valet and Troy Franklin and Valais looked really good.
You probably keeping both those guys and that you know,
are you keeping seven receivers? Are you keeping three quarterbacks?
(19:58):
The question is where do you skip to get the
extra body. Lot of times you just keeps sixth receivers.
Sometimes he keeps seven. If you do keep seven, I
think Lil Jordan Humphrey is probably the guy, or you
rotate it. You know, Lil Jordan'll be the guy for
a minute until Brandon Johnson runs out of call ups,
and then you'll swap on the practice squad and go
from there.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Maybe maybe you do something like that, but I don't.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
I think if you're looking at the receivers that they
might keep as either the seventh receiver or on the
practice squad. Based on you know, what I've seen so far,
I would say that Lil Jordan Humphrey, Brandon Johnson, and
Michael Bandy are probably the three guys after that. I mean,
Virgil's got a few reps here there sills, but I
(20:41):
don't think those guys, I mean practice squad maybe, but
probably not. And then on the offensive line starts shaking
itself out when Quinn Bailey done for the year after
that horrific injury, I mean, you're going to have you
get the five starters, and then you're probably keeping a
tackle and somebody else that canmand the guards in the center spot.
(21:07):
So that's seven. But do you keep an eighth offensive
lineman or not? Or do you keep two guys on
the practice squad and call them up as needed. Those
are the questions with roster construction that the Broncos will
have to figure out. I was joking around with a
couple of people today talking about how the Broncos have
used the practice squad colt and they've been really good
at that, like the way to rotate them through and
keep guys on the roster to do all kind of stuff.
(21:28):
They've done that really well, like elite level around the league,
and I maybe the only elite thing they've done in
the last decade, but they've done that really well, So
I think they've got a good handle on that. At
the end of the day, I think we're all hoping
(21:49):
going back to the quarterbacks that the Bonux wins the
job certainly organizationally based on what they're leaking out to
the media, that's what they're indicating, and we'll see. Jared
Stidham has been the steadiest guy to date. I mean,
I don't think there's any debate or argument on that.
He's absolutely been the steadiest guy. And I call him
(22:11):
steadwater uh, somewhat affectionately because it'll remind you of Teddy Bridgewater.
He just you know, he's gonna take what you give him,
not make mistakes, and that's going to be that. It's
not dynamic, but you know it keeps you if you
have a schedule based offense, it keeps you on track
and gives you the ability to score points. Zach Wilson
(22:34):
has the best tools of the three quarterback. He has
the strongest arm by far, it's not really close. He
has the best athleticism, but it's just it's so inconsistent
and you'll see you'll see a great play from him
and you'll be like, Okay, now I see why they
drafted him number two overall, and then the next three
(22:56):
or four plays you'll you'll you'll just sit be sitting
there like what what you doing?
Speaker 2 (23:01):
How do you overthrow Jalen Virgil.
Speaker 1 (23:04):
Jalen Virgil has world class speed, got behind his guy
and the ball was two yards out in front of him.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
You gotta have better anticipation than that.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
Not.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
You know, I'm absolutely pulling for Zach Wilson to turn
it around and be successful. I'm rooting for success for
I've always do. I don't know I've ever rooting for
people to fail. That's just a weird thing. I'm not
even like the schadenfreud of thing. It's just not my thing.
But with Zach Wilson, I'd love to see him turn
(23:36):
into something and become an asset for the Broncos. If
they're not gonna u him at the quarterback position, they
become an asset that allows them to acquire additional draft
picks or something like that. I think we all would.
I'm gonna I'm never gonna root for failure. That just
seems seems odd to me. But you guys will get
(23:57):
a chance to see. I mean, we got preseason games
coming up here real soon, and you guys are gonna
get a chance to see where these guys are at
and judge for yourself. And I'm I'm more excited about
seeing in game reps because I briefly had a discussion
with Alfred Williams before the show started. You know, some
guys are gamers. Some guys turn it on when the
lights come on. I can understand that sentiment. I don't
(24:19):
know what it is, but like you know, any any
competitive sport I ever played, when it came to game time,
it was it was an entirely different level, especially if
it was a tournament where you could be eliminated becau.
It's just, don't there's something that a mechanism that clicks
like I'm not going home. So for me, I you know,
I want to see game reps. I want to see
(24:40):
these guys in game conditions. I've seen enough of practice,
you know, with Withtid him, I know what he is.
With Nicks, you know, he's got some things to iron
out still and in the anticipation the placement thing is,
you know, is bugging me a little bit, but we'll
get there.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Zach Wilson, I think he needs a feed up rebuild. Uh.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know, I don't think it's as drastic as perhaps
we're all making it out to me, but he is, well,
he is behind the other two and I'd love to,
you know, I'd love to see him turn that into something,
you know, five six six nine zeros text line.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Appreciate the text coming in. And I don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:21):
I didn't know how I was going to cover this one.
I don't know really how to talk about this one.
But you guys seen this this thing rolling around today
about the Olympic boxer. I don't This is one of
those things where I sit there and I'm not a biologist.
(25:42):
I'm not qualified to speak on this, and I hate
the fact that we have to have an opinion on everything.
So what I'll say is this, people who are calling
this person who was born a woman as a woman's
sex Organs, has not had any surgery or any like that,
(26:03):
identified as a woman her whole life, but has what's
what's called DSD, which is a disorder of sex development
that results in x Y chromosomes, which is typically what
makes the wane a man, and higher testosterone levels similar
to those of a man. I just I empathize because
I don't what do you do as an athlete like that,
Like if you are, for all intents and purposes, you
(26:25):
know a woman, but you have you know, you have
an extra chromosome that.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Makes you, I don't know if it makes you a
man I see.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
And this is where I'm already in trouble on this,
because I don't know how to do that. I'll just
say I empathize with the athlete, and then I don't
know enough. I'm not qualified enough to say whether she
should or shouldn't be competing, And honestly, if I'm not
competing in that sport, in that division with it, I
don't really have a say anyway. I don't know how
(26:55):
I feel about that. I feel like we should be
nice to people. I feel like we should be empathetic,
and I feel like the discussions arounding it today has
certainly been anything. But I feel like that we do
a lot of tearing each other down.
Speaker 2 (27:09):
These days across the board.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
I feel like it's easy to criticize over the internet
and not be empathetic about the real problems of real people.
I think people use situations like this as a mascot
to thump their own agendas.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
And the things that I haven't seen in this.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
Story, the things I haven't seen online, is any empathy
for anybody involved. I've seen all kinds of falsehoods out
there people talking about to us, a transgender athlete should
be beaten up on women. Well, that's not true. She's
not transgender. She's literally a woman. She's just born with
the chromosome. She has women's sex organs. I just feel bad,
(27:58):
because what do you do if you're that athlete beat
against Mendy Can I don't know. I don't know the
answer to that, But what I do know is the
discussion on it has been mostly disgusting, with people sitting
there trying to twist and pervert everything to their own views.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Why can't we just take the empathy of the situation.
Speaker 1 (28:14):
Why can't we just take an honest and objective look
at it and say, look, we're not qualified to do that.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
I'm going to be honest with you.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
The number of people who have strong opinions about this
that are not in any way qualified to talk about
it seems to be the entire group of people talking
about it. Similar to when you scroll Facebook and see economists, virologists,
constitutional scholars, and lawyers that you know barely past high
school but somehow have an opinion and subject matter expertise
(28:42):
on everything. Count me as the one man who does
not have expertise on this. I don't know, But in
the end, I woant to come down on the side
of empathy. I want a person who wants to be
able to compete in her sport to be able to compete,
and I want the people who are competing in that
(29:03):
sport to not be at a disadvantage and have it fair.
And I don't know the answer to that. I don't
know the solution that. I don't know what to do.
This is a very rare case. This isn't someone who
is transgendered and just you know, crossing over to compete
in women's sports. That's not the case of what's happening here.
(29:24):
And all of a sudden, this person, because of political
divides from people that don't know what they're talking about,
has become a mascot worldwide. It has to again relive
the stigma of what she's living through having been born
with kind of a little bit of both in terms
of what it is that makes us man or women.
(29:52):
It's not so difficult to say, I don't know. It
is not difficult at all. I don't know. I don't
have a strong opinion on it. I just want everybody
to be happy. I want to find an equitable solution
that works for everybody. And it's a shame we don't
(30:13):
have more of that. It's a shame we don't have
more civility in our discourse. It's a shame that we're
not able to have rational thought and rational discussion surrounding
topics like this because preconceived idea and ideologues and ideological
positions that you've already pidgeon yourselves into, and you can't
(30:37):
step outside that box for one second. Say, you know what,
there's a human being here, There are human beings. We're
all just human being. We're all just people trying to
get by. We're ants on a rock careening through space,
and we're just trying to get by. I have seen
(30:58):
so many just absolutely outrageous fictions surrounding this poor person.
It just irritates me.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
You know, I.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
Just just don't be a jerk. You got an opinion
on it, cool, Just don't be a jerk. How difficult
is that? Apparently staggeringly so. If my social media timeline
is to be believed, If you're not a biologist and
(31:37):
you didn't know the difference or what this was before today,
I probably don't need a lengthy diatribe from you, You're
probably not qualified to talk about it.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Lord knows, I'm not.
