Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is Broncos Country tonight. No Benjamin alright, he was
on KOE Sports earlier. I am Brandon Christall, hanging with
you all night long.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Follow me on.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
I'm gonna just keep calling it Twitter just because Elon
must changed it's X. I'm gonna call it Twitter, and
I'll explain my protest in a second.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
But at DK Denver Sports is my handle three.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five or
Texas five sixty six, and I O on the Common
Spirit Health text line. We are at the Pat Bowl
and field House here at Broncos Park, powered by Common Spirit.
Gonna catch up with romy Bean, Gonna talk to Parker
Gabriel as well, so stay tuned for that, and gonna
play my interview with Randy Gratischar a little later as well,

(00:44):
in about I don't know, ninety minutes or so, maybe
a little less, uh, but my issue in Grant before
we get into Bo Nixon that's coming here in just
a second. There's what we call it teas and radio
just because Elon must change the name when it was
known as Twitter and that was fine, and tweeting all
that because he thinks x'es are cool when all his

(01:05):
kids have X names. That's not the same as maybe
Kreate Dul Jabbar or Muhammad Ali changing their name. Right,
like him changing the name of his dumb company that
we all use to get our news and disseminate information
and all of that. That's fine, But I don't have
to call it that unless they're paying me and telling me, hey,
call it this because we're paying you.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Where do you come down on that? I still call
it Twitter. I don't know why he would change it anyways,
when everyone already knows the brand. I think it was
a dumb decision, and I think people will still continue
to call it Twitter no matter how.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Many name changes it goes through.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I'd always say that I cringe isn't the right word.
But I went on the radio today, uh in Portland,
a man Chad in Portland did a podcast with a
buddy a couple weeks ago, and when they only call
it X, that almost kind of aggravates me. Me too.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I'm like X or Twitter at least.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
There's an acknowledge, Hey, we're calling it ex elon.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Fine, or or let's just call it Twitter. You know
what else? I've noticed and I don't want to get
too far down a rabbit hole.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
There is a lot more access to just like nude
photos on there than there ever was.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, and is that something that he had, Like, I
think they just.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
Took the the restrictions off, right, because they certainly still
have it on Instagram and Facebook, and that's obviously owned
by Meta aka Facebook. Like, I don't want to call
it Meta either, just because they expanded and changed their name.
If you say Facebook owns Instagram, that's fine, I can
follow it. You say, oh, Meta owns both of them,
I'm like, who wait, Meta World Peace bought bought those companies,

(02:42):
That's the.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
First thing I think of.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Well, and then with Twitter, it's it's not retweeting now,
it's just reposting, right, which sounds so much worse.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Yeah, we were totally fine with Twitter and retweeting. If
you want to say you didn't like the direction of
the company and you're changing.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
All that, that is his progative. He's versus man in
the world.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
He made a threat to buy it, and then they
made him go through with it, so he bought it,
and I think he's made it.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
I don't know if he's made it worse or better.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
I feel like the four U feed dominates my timeline
more than I needed to. But speaking of things for you,
you tune into this show to hear bow Nix talk,
I think, and based on what we're seeing of late,
it's been all about bo Nix, so because you may
have missed it over the weekend between the Hall of
Fame festivities, and I certainly wasn't here in real time

(03:27):
because I was in Canton, but was able to read
the quotes and then follow some stuff on Twitter, and
then and then you go back and listen to the
press conferences as I got ready for my updates this morning,
and just to get caught up lots of bow Nick's
talk from Adam Troutman, from Jillian or from a Jayquan
McMillan from Sean Payton. Sean gets asked about bow Nicks

(03:48):
one way or another pretty much every day. I don't
expect that they're going to name bo Nix the starter
before Sunday's game in Indianapolis, which is going to be
an early one, by the way plan accordingly an eleven
o'clock kick. I imagine it'll be on not just here
locally on nine News or Channel twenty or whatever, but
it'll be on NFL Network coast to coast, so if
you're listening to us somewhere else, I just knowing the

(04:10):
way they do national schedule, and I suppose I could
go to NFL Network and look it up and where
they try to feature a bunch of teams as best
they can and over kind of Thursday when games will
start on a weekend through Sunday and even Monday, you
can see a.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Bunch of different teams in a bunch of different games live.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Plus they replay a lot of games if they're at
the same time, so it will surprise me. But at
eleven o'clock, benjaminlb Bright and now I will bring you
Broncos Game Day eight to nine, and then Ryan Edwards
will have countdown to kickoff from nine until kick off
at eleven. I suppose that means probably have a track
down a player to do a player interview grant, So I.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Got to get ready for that.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Maybe I'll get one of these guys and ask them
all about bo Nicks, and it'll be interesting to see
who Dave Logan talks with. Is it Jared Stidham, is
it Bonicks? But I think ultimately Bonix is going to
be named starter.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
If I to.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Bet, maybe it's after the Packers, but I think you're
gonna and maybe they throw Jared sstod him a bone
and let him start, unless you've just are ready to
give bo Nicks the.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Keys to the car.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
And when you keep hearing all these different people talk
about him as positively as they do, and the eyeball
test he is passing. I mentioned Dave Logan. Dave said
this on Colorado's Morning News on the first day of
training camp that he thinks Boonix is going to have
to show Sean Payton and the Broncos coaching staff in
front office that he can't do the job.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Otherwise he's going to be the starter.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
And I don't know if Dave even couch it with
you know, it's not if but when, but basically from
day one, and so I think we will see Boenick's
name the start. I doubt it'll be before this first game,
but maybe by Wednesday or Thursday.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
I say, no, both starting. He's gonna be our.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Starter, Jared's gonna be the backup, Zac's gonna continue to
compete and get better, and then Zach will get to
play some of the preseason as well, and then you
might actually get some trade value out of him if
he does anything good, even if it's against threes or
if I had to bet, and I would bet ninety
eight ninety nine percent chance, Zach Wilson's on the Broncos
practice squad to start so he can stay around the
team and someone needs him down the road, then he

(06:11):
can go sign a deal for the rest of the
year and when a team acquires him, because if a
team acquires you, and I guess he may not be
a vested veteran.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
If you're a vested veteran, you can decide if you
want to go or not. But if you're I don't
know how it works.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
If a team wants to sign you have to practice squad,
they at least have to keep you on the roster
for three weeks.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Anyway, Bonix is.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Going to be named the starter because he is playing
well and we're seeing it. I know Ben wants to
see more, and he has said plenty that he thinks
Stidham is out played bow well.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
We're seeing Boll make more throws, We're seeing.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Him make the right decision, and so I think that
all of that is just continuing to point to what
we said from the beginning, or at least what I
said was that Boenix was going to be named starter.
So let's hear some of his teammates and as coach
talking about him. This is Titan Adam Troutman, a VET
who played with Drew Breesom at then Drew's career, and
then it was in New Orleans before coming here last year.
Obviously he was with RUSS, so he knows what a

(07:00):
well thrown football looks like. And while Zach has the
biggest arm bow, Nix's arm is certainly noticeably better than
Jarreed Stidham's and we're seeing him fit the ball into
tight windows. So here's Adam Trautman when asked, because of
Bo's ability to fit the ball in those type spaces,
is that an advantage?

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:18):
I think so.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
I mean there comes the point where you want, obviously
someone to be smart with the ball and checking it
down and everything, but it also shows like, how do
you want to play with someone who's a game like
he can do that stuff like and it makes you
feel good about it, Like he's willing to take the
I don't want to say risk, but he's willing to
do it. So yeah, I think that also obviously comes
from experience. He's seen all these windows because of how

(07:39):
much he's played.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Yeah, sixty one starts. This is not a normal rookie
twenty four years old. He's the same age as Act
Wilson basically, and the quarterback competition is gonna be hard
to construct anyway.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
You know.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I was able to talk to Gary Kubiak on Saturday
morning before the parade, was sitting with the outwaters and
before the parade was getting going, and Kubs was right
there because he obviously presented Andre Johnson, but he was
asking about the bon Nicks, Jared Sidam, Zach Wilson, QB
battle and we were just talking through the way it's constructed,
and as I was saying, it's really hard to get

(08:11):
a true look because they're rotating through and there's just
not enough snaps and practices.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Kobs well knows, like when he.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Came out in eighty three in the same draft as
John Elway, where the second John got traded. Here.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
The great story is Koubek called his dad and.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Said, yeah, Dad, I don'tink I'm gonna be the starting
quarterback for the Broncos. But Coup said, there's no way
to construct it because of the way the preseason goes,
You're now down to three games and you can't have
all He's like you, basically, we need all your starters
to play each of those games to get a real look,
and the opponent isn't going to play each of their starters.
So the best look there maybe going to get is
in a joint practice with the Packers, But it feels

(08:45):
like they'll have made.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Up their mind by then.

Speaker 1 (08:48):
So Julian McLoughlin, who certainly can compliment bow and if
you can turn into that joker player, then Bo and
Julie could have a lot of good years together. Today,
Julian McLoughlin was asked what he's seen from bow Nick
so far in camp.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
Oh, man, he's he's he's very mature, very mature. I
would say he's teaching me things as well. So I
think that you know that that's just a testament of
who that guy is in Bo and you know he's
a hard worker, focused, laser sharp So it's fun. It's
fun back there with him.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Ben Bo's a year older than Juliel coming in as
a rookie. Jilil's got a year under his belt. Jay
Kwon mc gull hasn't been in the league very long,
but he might have been the most consistent defensive player.
And so who better to ask about the way rookie
quarterback looks or an opposing quarterback looks in practice than
one of your top defensive back. So here is j

(09:40):
mac Saturday when asked what he's seen from bow that
stood out.

Speaker 7 (09:45):
I think all of them guys doing a good job,
but Bo, you just seeing him a getting better each
and every day. It was one practice where he saw
that we was blitzing and he checked out of it
and was able to get the offense right and make
a good play, make a good pass on the out route.
So just seeing him getting better each and every day
is a good thing to see.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
It is a good thing to see, and we're seeing it.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
He is taking what he knows of this offense, what
he's learned in the classroom, so to speak, or on
the tablet, in the playbook and all of that, and is.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Now taking it out to the field.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yes, he's played a lot of football, sixty one starts,
the most in the history college football. But he had
a lot of success, especially at Oregon and Auburn. The
deck was kind of stacked against him, and he's still
made plays. There's just some inconsistency there. But all those
numbers that Sean Payton's thrown at you.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
About his.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Efficiency and the third down numbers and how well he
was able to make plays there. And I know it
helps to have good players around you, like Troy Franklin,
like some of the other skilled players they had, but
you still have to make the throws and make the plays.
And that's kind of something Adam Troupman touched on, and
you know, going back to that conversation with Kobak, he
said that the other part of a modern day quarterback competition,

(11:00):
We've had one with Paxson Lynch, Trevors Simon and Mark
Sanchez back in twenty sixteen, But in general, he said
that guys are so scared to throw an interception or
to make a mistake that you you don't let it
rip either. And he talked about how Peyton Manning or
Tom Brady or Drew Brees or guys like that, Aaron

(11:21):
Rodgers will throw interceptions. I'm sure Patrick Mahomes throws interceptions
in practice. I haven't covered a Chiefs practice, but I
used to a million years ago, and I have plenty
of friends at work there. I bet if I call
or we just google it or look it up on Twitter. Grant,
we look it up on Twitter, well, you.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Will see that Mahomes is probably throwing picks all the
time because he'll take chances.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
You don't want to give the other team the ball unnecessarily. Obviously,
you don't want to lose the game for your team.
I get that, but at some point, every single quarterback,
if they're worth anything at all to a team to
be able to help them win, win and get to
the next level and win in the playoffs and go,

(12:01):
you have to go make plays.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
Quarterbacks have to make plays with.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Their arm, certainly at most high school high level, certainly
in college, and obviously in the pros. That's what we
haven't seen with Josh Allen consistently. We certainly haven't seen
it with Lamar in the playoffs, even though he's been
awesome in the regular season, especially those two MVP years.
We did see it at least once with Brock Purty.
I would like to see it again, but Rock Party

(12:26):
his team was down multiple touchdowns and he made the throws.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
And took those shots. We saw with Joe Flacco in
that run.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
And I know Broncos fans don't want to spend a
lot of time going on but in twenty twelve we
saw it with Joe Flacco. And so John Payton was
asked about bo Nix and his ability when he is
under duress. Like I mentioned that he had the best
numbers of any of the college quarterbacks under pressure last year.
So about that ability to handle things when stuff is

(12:58):
breaking down around them, which was criticism at Auburn, clearly
though something that he.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
Improved on at Oregon.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
And here's Broncos head coach on his rookieqb's ability to
handle that pressure.

Speaker 8 (13:08):
I think it's a trait that when we watched you
see pretty good pocket sense.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
It doesn't take a lot of sacks.

Speaker 8 (13:16):
I think he knows when the play's over, time to go,
and then I think he can make plays when he's going.
I used to say this all the time, that the
sack numbers are reflection more on the quarterback than the
offensive line. And there are some you know, Breeze was
one of those guys. He just he was a tough
sack ball came out and I think bow has traits

(13:36):
like that.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
If Bo Nick turns into Drew Brees, I think everybody
around here will be very happy. You know, I'm sitting
here broadcasting from our radio studio at the bat Bowl
and Fieldhouse, and on the other side of the wall
is a team store. We know that these things are
going to move to some degree with the new practice
facility being built attached to this. But wherever the team
store is, if Bonis is turning into Drew Brees, they

(14:03):
will be selling Bonicks jerseys. They will be flying off
the shelves for a decade and a half, just like
they were with Drew Brees in New Orleans. And so
it's funny that we know Sean Payton wants to be
right more than anything, just like I think anybody in life.
But Sean goes out on a limb, if you will,
or really is staking his reputation on what he's seen

(14:26):
from Bow and so he wants Bo obviously to be
successful because it just is better for everybody, but to
show that he was right.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
And so no one asked him, hey, does Bo remind
you of Drew?

Speaker 1 (14:39):
Lots of people said that coming out and when they
looked at the comparison of the type of quarterback that
Sean would like.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
But we've now seen.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Or rather we unprovoked, not only has he been overly
complimentary of Bonis Sean just as bringing up Drew Brees
when asked about Bo's ability to handle pressure and so
whether it's processing faster and maybe we can get into
some of that here in a little bit. It's clear
that Bo has traits that Sean is looking for in

(15:11):
a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Even if Shawn's back there as.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
The mad scientist or the guy that's playing Madden, and
he's got his PlayStation controller Xbox controller.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
And he's got his plays drawn up, calls the play.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Got a quarterback that's going to go from one to
two to three and make the right play if it's
not there. He's not going to try to make a
play that's not there, but he'll take what's there. Maybe
he runs the ball for a couple of yards. I
think bo Nix's rushing yards are going to surprise people,
and so it's going to be just fun to watch
this unfold. But when you're hearing all these people say
all these different good things about a rookie Qban, I

(15:44):
understand you want to prop your guys up, but they're
all talking about him differently, giving different examples of things
that has impressed them, and that's different than like towing
the party line and saying, oh they're competitive, Oh we'll
see he's a good guy.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
Right.

Speaker 1 (15:56):
They're giving specific examples of things that bow Knicks does
that is allowing him to not only win this competition,
but kind of separate himself and let us see why
Broncos took him twelfth.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Okay, when we come.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Back, we're going to talk to former colleague of ours
here at iHeartRadio, and she does a phenomenal job on
CBS Colorado, the one and only Roamy Bean in for
Benjamin Albright. I'm Brandon Christal broadcasting from our studios at
Broncos Park, powered by Common Spirit. You're listening to Broncos
Country Tonight on KOA eight fifty A ninety four to

(16:33):
one FM. It is Broncos Country Tonight. No Benjamin Alright,
he was on KOA Sports earlier. I am Brandon Christall,
hanging with you all night long, and it turned down
My Olympics was checking out, even though I watched a
lot of it this morning on Peacock. This is when
I'm sitting on Colorado's morning news doing updates, hanging out

(16:56):
here at Broncos Park powered by Common Spirit ron broadcast
from right now. It's cool to have the Olympics on,
and so I got to watch some on biles and
several other sports. The gold Zone is actually really really
cool because you can they'll give you three or four
events all at once, and then they'll highlight it in golds,
just like watching Red Zone. So you got Scott Hansen

(17:17):
from the Red Zone, Andrew Sileano, also formerly of the
Direct TV Red Zone. You got Jack Collinsworth. I don't
know how he got his job. I mean, he's Chris
collins wereth Son, so maybe that's part of it. And
then our guy Matt Eisman, Denver native Cherry Creek grad
doctor Matt Eisman almost doctored at. Matt Eisman of course
the host of American Ninja Warrior. So that's been really fun.

(17:39):
I wonder how much Olympic viewing our next guest has done.
And that is the incomparable romy Bean, former co worker
of mine here at iHeartRadio when it was once called
the Orange and Blue seven sixty in the studio and
Denver Sports seven sixty.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Guess more Denver Sports seven sixty.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
But she does a great job as a lead sports
anchor on CBS, and she's been out at training camp
every day. We you can catch her on CBS for Colorado.
She just came from Xfinity Monday Live. Who is your
guest tonight? I couldn't. I couldn't figure that out, but ROMI,
thank you for joining me. Who'd you talk to over
at the view house?

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Thanks for having me. I had Michael Tolia on today.
It was usually my my one Rocky of the year.
To get a Rocky on, it's like all the stars
have to the line. They have to be off on
a Monday, they have to be at home the next day.
There's literally two Mondays all season. So you have Michael
Tolia and then he was great. He's a really smart cat.
Majored in physics, so a little a little bit stupid,

(18:39):
to be honest.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
Well, nobody's gonna accuse me of being a physics major
even ever taking a physics class.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
I think you're smarter than I am.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
What did you major in though, at the University of Colorado.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
I went to business school. Oh really, you know, I
thought it was gonna be like a big business lady,
and here I am.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
Yeah. Well, you know, you could argue that what we
do is big business for some.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
People, like marketing and communications. They could have laughed over
a little bit.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Sure, absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, Well, it's cool that you had
Michael Tolia and he's obviously been on a tear. Maybe
not the level of Brenton Doyle, but it does feel
like when Tolia is up, the ball has a.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Chance to leave the yard.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
So hopefully the Rockies get back on track with the
struggling Braves coming in and it'll make our pal mace
sad when the Braves lose a couple of games here
to the Rockies, maybe they'll get the brooms out, but
they at least got a much need to day off
and as well as it is outside, that's probably not
the worst thing, but does events.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
You've been at Broncos camp every day and I just spent.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
The better part of the early part of this hour
talking about bo Nix and listening to different people say
different things about him, whether Sean Payton talking about his
ability to handle pressure, Adam Trout and talking about his
ability to fit the ball in tight space, is Jaiquan
McMillan talking him about him checking out of what they
were doing because he could tell what they or what

(20:02):
he was doing because he could tell what the defense
was about to do from a disruption or blitz, standpoint coverage,
standpoint checking to another play. Julia McLoughlin on him teaching
him parts of the offense. Bo Nicks teaching Julia McLoughlin
parts of the offense. So with all of that as
a setup, what do you think of young bo Knicks here,
especially in the last week or so.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
Yeah, you know, I think that the thing that stands
out to me the most about bo Nicks is, Yeah,
a lot of players have alluded to his maturity, but
the way he doesn't get too high or get too low,
you know, throws an interception, throws that path and it's
just water off a duck's back. And then you know,
the way he reacts when he throws a touchdown is

(20:45):
the same way he does when he throws an interception.
And that's really unique for a rookie that is very much,
oftentimes kind of a learned behavior, I think in the NFL,
and it really stands out to me how even keel
he is for a rookie who doesn't seem rattled, he
really seems like he belongs and that I think when

(21:05):
we talk about quarterbacks and what makes a successful quarterback,
obviously there is a lot that goes into it. But
to have the trust, the mental fortitude that is E
don't see in a lot of rookies. I think that's
really what stands out to me about bow And when
he does make mistakes, he don't see make the same
mistake twice, which obviously we know goes a long way

(21:26):
with Sean Payton. And I think the other thing is,
you know, we've asked a lot of players their cakes
on Bonix and somebody at some point along the road
I tweeted it and they were like, I hate it
when players get asked these questions, Like, of course they're
not going to say anything bad, which is true, but
if you really read into what these guys saying, they

(21:47):
don't they're not going to say anything bad, but they're
also not going to say anything complimentary if it's not there.
And these guys have been pretty effuse in their praise
talking about the maturity Jalil today, as you mentioned, saying
he has learned things from him, when the defenders are
talking about how he's looking them off with their eyes.
They're not going to say those things that they're not true,
and so all of that is really stood out to

(22:08):
me when you listen to what these players say and
how complimentary they've been, I don't think that those are
our blank or false statements, right, So that has also
really stood out to me, the reaction that we're kind
of getting from every single guy.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yeah, it's funny because it takes me back to Von Miller,
who loved every quarterback going all the way back to
Tim Tebow. Right now, he had those four years of Peyton,
so that certainly changes things. But he loved Tim Tebow,
and then he loved Trevor Simeon, and he loved case
Keenum and he loved Flacco, and so we get all that,
but it was just unadulterated love, the way Garrett Boles

(22:45):
always tells us, he loves his quarterback as much like
he loves his wife, and so he wants to protect
the quarterback. And I get all that, but I think
the point that he's made is similar to something I
said a little earlier this hour, which is the detail
at which each player is is kind of talking about.
And so Jalil he's being taught something. Troutman's talking about
him fitting it into tight windows. I guess that's the

(23:07):
question he was asked. But Jake Qwan mcmillin's just asked
a blanket statement, what have you seen from bow Nicks?
And he brings up, oh, well, he checked out of
this because he saw what we were doing.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
They have specific examples of what they like. You know,
I'm looking at Jonathan.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
Cooper's quote from Friday when I was making my way
out to Canton.

Speaker 2 (23:25):
He says, you know, there's level of confidence. He's very mature.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Those extra years in college help, but you can see
it on the field, the way he controls the offense
and controls everybody's tempo to keep.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
Them under control and set.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
And so I've made some comparisons between Bo Nicks and
Russell Wilson in that they're both just starting quarterbacks their
whole life right from and we should ask Bo this
at some point, even if it's just in passing. He's
probably been starting since second grade. Every level he's been
at pretty much from the jumping, including in college, so
it's all he knows.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
And then the even keeled thing for all of Russ's
whatever you want to call it.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
When you could see that he did stay even keeled
when he made I mean he was excited we made
a good play, but not overly excited and did never
really get down in the dumps even when he's getting
chewed out by Sean Payton on the sidelines. Right, So
to have that trait, You're right, not every young quarterback
has it, but lots of really good quarterbacks have it.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
Yeah, and a lot of guys I mean, like, I
don't know what Russell Wilson was like when he was
a rookie.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
He won the job, but he won the job, right.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
But I think that even he's a guy that you know,
he's gone through a lot of right like mental coaching,
and a lot of these guys go through that. And
you can see that just these guys tend to Some
guys pull as a cucumber from the day that they
step on the field, but a lot of them aren't.
And in this league, I think not having that kind

(24:50):
of mental strength will just crush you. I mean we've
seen it time and time again. So much talent and
but you got to have it upstairs as well. And
I think that his mental composition and along with everything
you know, he's so detail oriented. He's a true coaches son.

Speaker 1 (25:05):
If we really do.

Speaker 4 (25:06):
See that for sure, you know, almost robotic in a sense.
All of those things really factor in. But I think
when we look at where the Broncos are at, and
you even look at the start of the season, I mean, yeah,
that's a tough start of the season to go out
to Seattle, which is the loudest venue I've ever been in,
and come back and have to face for us, those
those are big tasks. But I think that at least

(25:27):
right now, both Nick is showing me, I would have
the confidence that he has the maturity to handle those
situations if he's given the starting job, you know. And
a guy that I think, Peyton Manning said it when
we were you know, at that event, he sometimes you
got to learn through fire, you know. He went three
and thirteen in his first year and then look what
happened afterwards, And it was because the best way to

(25:49):
learn is by being out there. And I could see
Bo as one of those guys who learns from, you know,
his mistakes on the field and gets better and doesn't
get crushed by the hardships that he might face in
a rookie season.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Rollmy Bean nice enough to join us as she's making
our way from Xpenity Monday Live back to the CBS
four studios because she has to anchor the ten o'clock
News ten o'clock Sports, and so I appreciate the time here.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
We've got the first.

Speaker 1 (26:18):
Preseason game Sunday at Indy. What do you want to
see beyond whatever the quarterback battle looks like? And there's
a scenario where John names the starter before they go
does it Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Or Thursday this week? He could do that. I doubt
he does.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
But what do you want to see beyond the quarterback?
So let's move on from bow and Jarrett? What do
you want to see? Knowing that starters in a Sean
Payton preseason are going to see a little time on
the field, who are you looking at in that first game?

Speaker 4 (26:47):
I mean, you know what's funny when you have a
quarterback competition and then you kind of lose sight of
There's so many great competitions on this team. But the
thing I'm most excited about is Tim Patrick. Is the
first time we're going to see him into year. Maybe
he plays a couple snaps, I don't know, Maybe he
plays a quarter, whatever it is, I think I can't
I cannot wait to see Tim Patrick back on the field,

(27:09):
to see how he, you know, and to see where
is that. You know, we haven't seen him in so long,
and Tim Patrick is a key, a very important key
to success for this coming season, and you want him
to stay healthy. And I think it's going to be
huge to see. I'm sure it'll be emotional, but emotional
for him maybe too right. The entire Tim Patrick scenario,

(27:31):
I think is the one thing that I'm really most
looking forward to, and to see how he plays and everything,
and to talk to him afterwards and see what it's
like for him and how he's feeling, et cetera, et cetera. Now,
for me, I think is the top thing that I
am most excited about out of everything, and then you know,
you can kind of go down the line. I've just

(27:52):
been fascinated with the running back competition and i'd love
I can't wait to see a little bit more of
Adric Estimate. I mean, the guy is just a beast.
I can't wait to see him in actual gameplay. So
those are I did the top two things I'm most
looking forward to before I let you.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Run because I know you got to get into the studio,
get ready for the news later.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
You also have a little side hustle if you will.

Speaker 1 (28:15):
I mean, it's a part of your job, but you
get to hang out with Coach Prime every week for
his weekly Coaches Show. And so it's my understanding that's
coming back this year just like it was last year.
Y'all do that on Tuesdays? Is that when you record it,
does it run Tuesdays? I don't want to missell it,
but or get the info wrong. Is that the plan
again Tuesdays?

Speaker 4 (28:35):
Yeah? Well, we tape it on Tuesdays and then it
airs on Wednesdays. And I'm really excited. I'm excited to
find a way to level up this year, make it
better than it was last year. And it's really been
such a joy and a great professional challenge to be
on that show and to be on that show as
Coach Prime and trying to bring something different than what

(28:55):
you get in the pressers. So I'm really looking forward
to it, looking forward to the play that we get
on this year as well, and uh, I'm all for
a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Gonna be fun. Yeah, the Buss shirt, more winds, Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
I mean, look, they quadrupled their win total from the
year before last year. If they do that this year,
that'll be sixteen wins and that'll make them national champs,
maybe even more games they can play, you know with
the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
That's the right math.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
So if they can quadruple it again, then you'll be
you'll be uh living high on the hog, you and
all of your fellow Buffalo ums that are so happy
to have a coach friend there. I guess real quickly,
what have you heard about how the start of fall campus?
Because he was in campon Friday night to give Devin
Hester's gold jacket. But then back in Boulder Saturday. Are
you are you hearing good things from from your alma mater.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
Yeah, I went up there. I skip Broncos camp a
couple of days one last week and uh, just to
get up there and check it out. And they look,
I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
They look.

Speaker 4 (29:57):
We really gets some small window you know, kind of
to watch, of course, but that offensive and defensive line
they look totally different. They look like big, mean guide,
which is what you need and what you want. I
think so much college football is what and lost in
the trenches. So the offensive and defensive lines really do
look revamped, and I can't wait see what it looks

(30:18):
like out there, because if you can protect the quarterback
and you've got Travis Hunter on both sides, it could
be a really, really fun season.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
I'm pulling for the bus in every game except for
when they had to arrowhead and take on my Jayhawks.
We're probably gonna win the Big twelve. At least that's
my prediction. So we will see, though it's a long
long time between now and the end of November.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Romie, I know it's always busy for you to.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
Catch you in the middle of your of your shift,
if you will, after being out here all day at
practice then coming from Exfinity Monday life.

aren't already, are following you on Twitter at Rome underscore

Speaker 2 (30:56):

Speaker 4 (30:59):

Speaker 2 (31:03):
No underscore just on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (31:05):

it X just because Elon must change the name and
it always will.

Speaker 4 (31:14):

Speaker 2 (31:19):

the Rapids, the Rockies. You've got nonprofits, special Olympics, over

(31:44):
one hundred and ten women from in Colorado that work
in sports that will be there to meet any girls
that maybe have a curiosity about careers in sports, and
if you know any girls that might have an inkling.
I hope this is going to be a really, really
inspirational and beneficial days, So please pass the word on.

your Twitter page or x but we call it Twitter.
I think it's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
And look, this is my eighteenth season covering the Broncos
and sitting out here every morning doing updates, just seeing
the number of female staffers across all areas of this
organization and the intention to diversify their work staff beyond
just dudes around the game of football has been awesome

(32:36):
seeing it with the Nugs and with the Avs.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
As well as with the Rockies with the Rapids. So
it's been fun to see it.

Speaker 1 (32:43):
As somebody who has a three year old little girl
that may want to work in sports. I think that
it's awesome that you're doing this, and hopefully plenty of
other folks will if they know young ladies that want
to work in some former fashion in sports, and please
go check it out. ROMI thank you so much for
the time. I will see you tomorrow out here at
Broncos practice.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
I appreciate you. BK, thanks for having me on.
