Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good with all bright grants.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
Spill Zach Singer's joining us here five six six nine
zeros text line. Guys, now's your chance to thank a
teacher with iHeartRadio. It's powered by donors. Choose a nominating
outstanding public school teacher who's got above and beyond for
their students to win five thousand dollars to stock their classroom.
So in Denver, so far, Alsa hart Stark, a speech
therapist at Corey Elementary, is nominated. At least works with

(00:23):
students to communicate effectively in and out of the classroom.
She educates teachers and parents on successful communication skills with
autistics students, and stocking Elicta's classroom would make her therapy
fun and successful. You guys can nominate your favorite teacher
now at iHeartRadio dot com slash teachers Again. That's five
thousand dollars to stock their classroom.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
Zach, you could stock a classroom with five grand right
pretty easily. Yeah, I mean I would load it up
with that's a lot of those pencil toppers, Yeah, with
the executive pencil toppers, Shinese finger traps, one of the
handgrining sharpener that everybody had back Oh man, I remember
those were the worst. I still had those in my school.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Did you guys waste your pencils like sharpen them all
the way down to the nub and then use the
tiny pencil you do?

Speaker 1 (01:10):
You know which class had the good one and you
just sharpen them then and then there'd be some class
where like, if you're desperate, you'd have to do it,
but it adjust it had shred that thing. Did you
guys ever play pencil wars with the try to crack them? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:22):
Yeah, you like biting down the eraser part. Yeah, not
suggesting this to any kids, yeah right, yeah, kids follow
Grant Smiths example here.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
But that was always fun. You get the competition going
in the classroom. Yeah, that was that was good. Five
six six nine zeros.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
The text line Broncos had a sort of scrimmage practice
with the forty nine ers today, And it was funny
to me because a lot of the reporting that was
coming out from people on the ground about this was
laughably bad relative to what people were texting me.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
It was going on.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
We had segments here in town on other radio stations
talking about the Broncos defense getting shelled. I mean, and
that's the opposite of true. I had multiple assistant coaches
from the Niners, a couple of beat guys there, send
me over.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
You were right.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
This is a championship caliber defense, super Bowl caliber defense.
These guys are good. You're missing three starters twenty five
percent of your defense with Jones, Singleton, and green Law.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Out, and they couldn't do anything. That sounds like all
the reporting I heard today, and I think it isn't
only promising for the defense, but it's promising for the
offense because you know, there's an element of you go
out there every training camp practice and you're seeing the
defense beat up on the offense and you're like, well,
to an extent, this is to be expected. We all

(02:38):
think this should be the best defense in the league
this year. But is it that way or is the
offense maybe really concerning And you don't expect that to
be the case, but it's hard to know for sure
until you see them line up against someone else. This
is probably a better barometer, honestly, than we'll even get
in the preseason game with the weird backup nature of
preseason games.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
So yeah, the Niners are not planning on planning starters,
where the Broncos are.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
And also you're seeing real play calls in these joint
practices as opposed to preseason settings which the old party's
run the offense instead of showing yeah exactly. And they're
stopping Kyle Shanahan's forty nine Ers attack. It might not
be the forty nine Ers attack of you know, two
years ago or whatever that got to the Super Bowl,
but you know, McCaffrey's healthy by all reports, and shutting
down that unit. You could vote extremely well for this defense.

(03:24):
Christian McCaffrey got a chance to talk to the media,
of course he's from here, and it.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Was a little nostalgic for some of the dever sigdeage
that he saw when you for sure that the Broncos
were your scrimmage?

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Was there a dog excitement knowing that there's so much
Broncos tags of your team and now you're playing the
Broncos growing up.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Washing that team.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
What's that like, going against the team that you can
watch them tay?

Speaker 5 (03:43):
What's is a nostalgic looking at your nine News shirt?

Speaker 1 (03:46):
I guess I grew up man.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
It's you know, coming home from a snowy day theyrew
on nine News. See if your school is canceled, So
it's cool to see, you know, familiar faces we grew
up with Susie and different people, so that's definitely nostalgic,
even just seeing the logo and obviously you know, so
many familiar faces on that team. Is funny.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
McCaffrey looking for a bit of a bounce back season
after some injuries have derailed UH lately, and honestly, he's
probably the most healthy of running back room right now.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, and him being healthy is the game changer for
this offense. You know, the on off splits with him.
It's also true for Trent Williams, but for him, especially
with that the rest of the cast of weapons they
had is insane. You know, it goes from being a
good offense to being one of the best offenses we've
ever seen. And I think that's especially important now when
you see not only are the other running backs beat up,

(04:37):
but Brandon Ayuk's beed up. Pierce Als coming back, but
he's coming back from an injury in his own right.
Juwan Jennings is beat up, and there's a weird contract
dispute there, so any George Kittle might be without his
smelling salter at least we'll have to. He's got to
bring his own. He's got a supply.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
He's got to get high on his own supply.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
He's going to come with a Santa sack full of
smelling socks.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
And I don't know if you guys, either of you
have for like used smelling salts, never used them.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
They are very effective, that's all. That's all I will
tell you. It's become a recent like social media trend
to get them and do them to whoever. And it
looks potent from what I've seen. One of my favorite.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Clips is Adam Gaze on the sideline before he is
coaching the first chess game, just ripping the just ripping
the smelling salts.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
It looked like he did a line of coke. That's
what that is, what I mean, that's what you know.
It looked like he did it right before his press
conference too.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
And all that kind of stuff. Yeah, a little bit
of that now I'm just he but that I mean.
And there are players that do it. There are players
that do it every series. Baker Mayfield's one of them.
It's not just offensive defensive guys like it's Max Crosby. Yeah,
there's a lot of guys that do that and it
helps get you up a little bit. So just something
to to get there. Some of the other some funny
stuff that was going on. We saw a Niners receiver

(05:51):
somebody tweeted out and in his bio is funny because
he claims to be an insider for Telemundo or something,
but he tweeted out at uh, I believe the picket
the wide receiver for Jordan Watkins.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Watkins, that's what we look at, the corner picket.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yeah, well, yeah, Watkins scored a touchdown on pats Er
Tan and our own detectives act seekers here put on
his little floppy Sherlock Holms hat and got a pipe
on a monocle and got some video footage showing that
clearly it was Picket, it was defending him, and that
Patser Tan was standing there on the sideline with I

(06:28):
believe no helmet on.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah, just chilling, and I love to see that. I'm
always nice to at least verify that it's not Patrick's
or Tan getting scorched by a future Insuran insurance salesman,
excuse me, And yeah, it's Joshua Pickett. It's the guy
who's probably at the very very very end of the
Broncos depth chart save for you know, the fake Jade

(06:50):
Baron placement, and so, I mean, I don't even know
how you could mix it up again, because it's not
a Jade Baron or even a Brandon Jones or someone
with any it's thirty nine. I don't know how you
see that from any angle. It's not even a folded
up jersey in the practice clip. So I don't know

(07:10):
how you see that from any angle and assume it's
Patrick Tutan unless you just are looking for clicks or
you're just very excited and blurry visioned. I just worried
for his insider days over there at Telemundo. Yeah, that's concerning.
Muno needs to invest in a better insider. There was another.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Tweet out there about Johnny Barron get roasted for a touchdown.
I talked to one of the Niners assistant coaches and said, no,
Johny Barroon was right there and face with him the
whole time. It was just a jump ball in the
end and the other guy won and it wasn't like
he got roasted.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Yeah, it's just so hard to judge these practice things.
I think so many people have a questionable eye for it. Yeah,
you know, you've talked about some of the other reports,
even locally that I have gone around that are a
little odd and not quite congruent with what I think
most other people are seeing it out there. And I
think it's just it's hard. You have a field level angle,

(08:05):
which is an ideal. You often have players standing on
the sidelines in your way, you have no instant replay.
The game is much faster at field level, like you
can field the speed of it much more at field
level than when you're in the stands or in the
press box looking down from above. It's like it's hard
to break down a live game from a broadcast angle

(08:25):
with replay and a few different camera angles. It's nearly
impossible to do it in training campus. So I think
you see a lot of the misjudgments. I guess it
would be a friendly interpretation.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, there's just there's some some eyes out there that
will say things that probably shouldn't and that's what you
see there.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
But it can be a boring time, and it's you
gotta find sometimes you can create the drama if you
can't find it.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Apparently, but by all accounts of people that I talk to,
that I respect out there. The Broncos defense absolutely dominated
the Niners today.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
The Broncos offense was was hit or missed.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
It had some moments, it had some moments where it
did not look particularly great. And the most troubling thing
was a note that I got about the Niners getting
to push up the middle.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Luke Wattenberg get moved around a little bit, and that.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Concerns me because if we're getting pressure up the middle
and moving Bow off his spot in the dropback, getting pressure.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Up the A gaps, that is very concerning. Yeah, that's
when you saw the worst of Bow last year. You know,
I think one of the crazy stats. And it did
improve down the stretch, but on the season, he's you know,
top ten in terms of under pressure sack rate, meaning
it's incredibly low. It's on the good end of the spectrum,
top ten in terms of turnover worthy play right under

(09:44):
pressure too, So we did a great job of mitigating
those negative plays. You know what Sean Payton was hitting
on in that seth Wickersham article. Yet he's still ranked
as one of the you know five six worst quarterbacks
win put under pressure this year, which is amazing because
how are you doing that? When you're not throwing the interceptions,
when you're not taking the sacks, those incredibly costly plays.

(10:05):
And it's because he was so ineffective generally. He didn't
have the really low lows, but he didn't have any
of the high highs. He wasn't punishing pressure at all.
And so that's an area just in general he needs
to grow. And I think you worry if well. I mean,
the offensive line's a weekly system and it doesn't matter
how much you've invested in other four spots.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
If that center can't hold up, is there any competition there?
Or is Luke Wattenberg He's the guy forsythe would be
the next guy, and he's got the Oregon connection.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Yeah, he's alright in the run game, but his pass
pro has been a little.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Lea we'll see. We'll see in the preseason game.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
And that was a little concerning to me because you're
talking about a forty nine ers defensive line. They run
a forty three who only had six bodies available for
this practice, and not.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Super exciting ones. I mean, they're starting interior players are
Jordan Elliott, Kevin and Kevin Gibbons. I mean the rookies,
I liked CJ. West and Alfred Collins a lot. I mean,
I guess i'd hope it was those two, was one
of them. I mean, I liked Collins lot. But still,
you're talking about a second round rookie. You don't It's

(11:09):
not like seeing Dexter Lawrence beating up on your starting
center and you're like, Okay, well he's probably going to
be fine most weeks. If the second round rookie is
coming in and beating up on your starting center, he's
probably going to struggle most weeks.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
Yeah, gross, Models and Gibbons were out hurt. Michael Williams
had a knee hyper extension.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
He was out.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
So that line that they have over there in San
Francisco was not exactly. Was just trying to piece meal
it together to get through that practice. And I know
everybody wants to talk about the offense, but it wasn't.
I mean, it was okay. You know, it was okay
based on the people that I talked to. And I
think the Broncos are going to start their offense and

(11:48):
their starters in this game. They should beat up on
the Niners backups in this game on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (11:55):
Absolutely, And I think if that doesn't happen, maybe you
can start to get a little concerned. Still, ultimately, i'd
say it's preseason. I'd also say the best joint practice
I think, offense or defense I've seen from any Broncos
unit was twenty twenty two when they decimated a Cowboys
theme that I think ended up winning twelve games that year,

(12:15):
and they blew them out the defense that couldn't gain
a single yard, and then the Broncos offense was going
up and down the field with Nathaniel Hackett and Russell Wilson,
and you know that ended up being indicative of nothing
at all. So I just even though this has been
the most meaningful practice so far, it probably carries more

(12:38):
weight than the individual preseason games. I just let it
get into the season. Bo Mix was objectively terrible, too
very bad for a third of the season last year,
and the teammate the playoffs. Just you know, i'd give
it some time before we start freaking out. Yeah, I
don't want to invite it to panic.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
That's not what I'm trying to do by relaying this,
But I am trying to subvert a little bit of
the popular learn narrative that the Broncos are a super
Bowl favorite, which is what seems to be the national
talking point now, which I believe is just as wrong
as last year saying they had the worst roster in
the league. I do believe the Bronco is going to
be a good team. I do believe they're probably going
to make the playoffs. But let's not set the expectations

(13:17):
so high that if that happens and they make the
playoffs and then lose, that they were disappointed because they
didn't make the Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
We're not there yet. They're still a growing team.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
You've got a quarterback in just his second year, You've
got a lot of rookies.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
They are going to get some playtime here.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
So the way that I'm looking at this is I
am not going to over hype this offense just because
some national guys are over hyping it because quotes Sean
gave them.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
I want to see it first and we haven't seen
it yet. And then he's a gauntlet, you know, like
the Ravens were expY by a lot of metrics like DVOA,
which is maybe the most well respected, advancedandletic in the game.
One of the best teams of the twenty first century.
Like top five, top ten teams of the twenty first century.
They didn't even make the final four last year because
the Bills are also elite squad right now. And then

(14:01):
you've got the Chiefs in the middle of a dynasty.
And that's not to even get into I mean the Bengals,
despite how it reft, they looked right, or the Texans
or like, it's just and I think things have opened
up a little bit today, honestly with the Rashaun Slater injury,
I do think that makes things a little easier in
the division and therefore the AFC overall.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
But yeah, for those who don't know, later is going
to be out for the year, the starting tackle for
the Chargers going to be out for you.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
That's a big blow. It really is. Because the interior
had a lot of questions. But it's like you've got
Slater and all on the outside. You think they can
maybe string it together, but now all you've got to
anchor it is all and you need the Becton signing
to work out. You need their position flip of Zion
Johnson and Bradley Boseman to work out. Neither of those
guys were that good in their normal positions last year.

(14:46):
It's just maybe flipping them works, maybe it makes it
a lot worse. So I just I think they seem
a lot more vulnerable now I feel better about that matchup.
In general. I thought the Chargers were a team that
just structurally gave the Broncos a lot of problem. I
don't know if they can take advantage of the size
and this match up front when they're so worn down

(15:06):
on the offensive line already.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
Yeah, and Trey Pipkins and Jamari Sallier are not exactly
world beaters out there, you know, to replace it tackle,
So that's gonna be interesting. Do you kick Peckton outside,
move alt over and just try to and put Pipkins
or saw Your at right tackle.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Where they're more at home. You know, I don't know
all finished practice to practice at left tackles, So it
seems like maybe that's plan A. I worry about that though,
because so in college he was a great left tackle prospect.
Year one they moved from tritackle. He talked about how
difficult that transition was. He played well, but you talked
to all off season about how difficult that was for
him mentally. Now he's going to change back potentially to

(15:41):
the left side with very little runway to do so.
And then next year when Rasponds later hopefully comes back,
he's going to have to move back to the right side.
That's three position changes in as many off seasons. That's
an easy way to screw up a top five pick.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Well, if you're a you know, and if you're a
coach to them, you hope he's an Ambi turner.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Right, that's right. We we got to hit a break.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
We'll go right at the UK wait cosper the hotline
and bring on our friend Breemas.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Let's pree. How you doing this evening?

Speaker 4 (16:50):
Doing fantastic? Thank you for asking.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
I we we saw some of the reports coming out
at the Broncos joint practice with the Niners, some of
which was laughing wrong, but there seems to be a
consensus that the Broncos defense definitely was out there and
was dominant.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
Do we take even.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
More solace in that and do we start to measure
maybe the offenses. I don't want to call it mediocrity,
because that's that's bilittleing it, but maybe the offense is
slower start than the defense. Do we take something in
the fact that the Broncos defense is that dominant, not
just against its own offense, but against the Niners as
well well.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
I think we have this conversation year over here that
somehow the offense is starting slow. But in preseason, in
training camp, you want to see your defense sort of dominate.
That's the benchmark of a strong unit as a whole,
if they're able to really contain the offense. Plus there's
limited contact. There's not a whole lot of pads in
action going on, even when they are padded up. So

(17:51):
I want to throw it out there that I don't
necessarily think labeling the offenses having a slow start is
really going to matter until you get into those preseason
regular season games. But the joint practices are one of
those great treasures of the NFL where you don't really
look forward to it, but then you do because you
get an actual control, competitive, scripted way to put players

(18:12):
out there into the game like positions and situations, and
you're seeing some really meaningful reps. And you already mentioned it,
but I've gotten a chuckle out of today's coverage simply
because the chatter. And I don't want to like point
fingers or name any names, but all of San Francisco
started to have this idea that Patrick scan was getting
beat couple of times in coverage, and listen, Patrick Stercan

(18:33):
is the gold standard at corner in this league, and
could he lose a rep here there? Absolutely, that's the
nature of practice, especially when you're going full speed against
talented wide outs. But the frequency and tone of the
reports made it sound like the floodgates were wide open.
And I find that really hard to buy into given
his track record. But from the perspective if the Broncos go,
the reports have been overwhelmingly positive for both sides, and

(18:56):
I think it's too early really divide too much into that.
But you're not going to stop freight train that is
Broncos country because they're way too amped up about what
they're seeing. And I don't blame them. We've already heard
multiple reports, most recently from Darren Rizzy Is saying that
this roster is deep and it's going to get competitive
as you start to cut down the ninety man roster.
But they look super aggressive up front. They're stacking the box,

(19:17):
they're creating stacks, multiple tackles for loss, and I think
that's exactly what you want to see from that rock.
Prudy is even out there saying, you know, the defense
looked like it came out with something to prove, and
I really think that's a great idea for what this
dress rehearsal is. There's a ton of guys going into
joint practices in this first preseason game trying to make

(19:39):
a name for themselves, and that's exactly what you want
to see out of this team, especially when there's going
to be a couple of players that are really going
to have to take that next leap and show what
they have in order to get that starting or to
get a position on that fifty three man roster.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
I would remas this here on Broncos Country tonight as
we look at some of the preseason actions happening night.

Speaker 1 (19:57):
The Seahawks are taking on the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I know it's the preseason and we don't care, but
did we care that the Raiders should always lose and
ken Drew Locke make it, you know, as he did
for the Giants last year at Drew Somber to remember.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
I feel like there was only appropriate that having me
on the show meant that we had to recall that
of Drew Locke and his could be greatness would be like,
is this the year? Is this the year that happens?
I have collective belief? Did you say locked and loaded?
I sure hope you did. Yeah? Did you patent it?

(20:32):
And have you trademarked it? And can we start putting it.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
On shirts or small caps women's underwear whatever whatever is appropriate?

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Yeah? I mean I think you got the idea here,
but yes, the Raiders should lose at any turn in
any turn possible. Honestly, I think this is the year
the Roncos could have a little bit of a sweep
within the West and take both of those games. But
also that's a prime example of how you can underrate
a lot of the quarterbacks that are in this division.
Obviously you're taking the home out of the situation, but

(21:01):
each year we're sort of considering where the Raiders are,
and with Gino Smith, I think they're a little bit
of a different team. The pairing between Gino and Pete
Terrell is going to take them to the next level.
But it's not about the barometer of where you stack
up necessarily against that team. There's going to be the competitiveness,
There's going to be the rivalry there. But this is
the year sort of where I'm seeing the Broncos make

(21:22):
a run for taking back the claim right like giving
it to the Chiefs and making sure that they're still
competitive and competitiveness there. So I'm hoping this is the
year where it shows up in games that matter and
the division is going to be that much more important.
And I know that the Broncos aren't asc West favorites,
but they're the biggest threat to Kansas City that they

(21:43):
have this year, and the Raiders are the wild card.
I somewhat feel like they're going to find a way
to blow it because that's just what they do. And
I'm going to patent that while I'm at it.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
Hey, Bree, great here.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
You know, well, someone who's not underrating our quarterback as
his head coach when he's said Sean Payton said earlier
this week that he thinks Bnix is going to be
a top five quarterback in the NFL in the next
couple of years.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Do you see that realistically happening? And what do you.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Expect from bo Nix this year? In year two in
the Sean Payton offense.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
I'm not having come in and, like, you know, brush
it on the rug and say that it's maybe it'll happen,
maybe it won't. No, I think in the next couple
of years we'll have a really great answer to that question.
What I want to maybe temper the expectations is that
we are building this fuel, this fire, this bonfire that's
just burning, and we are throwing everything we can find

(22:36):
on top of it to keep it going. And that's
the great part about hope and circumstance and confidence on
all of those things. But it's hard not to buy
in when you hear the national narratives start to match
up with the local media. You've got Sean Payton seeing
these types of things, and I don't think that he's
the type of guy to put his neck on the
line if he didn't truly believe what he's seen. Because

(22:58):
when you look at Bonix right now, you're seeing the
combination of raw talent, the strong work, habits, the systems
familiarity is all going to start to click now and
around the league, opposing coaches and players are quick to
point out, you know, is the mobility, the toughness. Kyle
Shannigan was that of today, just saying he's made of
the right stuff. And so I don't believe it's flip service.
I don't think you're getting that from other coaches. I

(23:20):
don't think you're going to get that from Sean Payton.
I think it's very crystal clear that in his second
year as quarterback, bo Nicks is going to be very
deliberate about what he's able to bring to this team. Now,
it may not be leaps and bounds. We may not
see an exponential jump, but I think it's way too
early to just be resolved in the fact that a
sophomore slump is inevitable. So in the next three to

(23:41):
five years, if Bonix is a top five quarterback. We
called it. We saw it coming, and we knew exactly
the steps that he needed to take to get there,
which was through his development, doing the Drew Brees film,
study and mastering Sean Payton's scheme, and it will have
paid off. At that point. He came into camp physically sharper,
his mechanics, they look other and I think he's operating

(24:01):
with more confidence in the pocket. If that doesn't lead
to success, then the Broncos have to go back to
the drawing board and figure out what pieces they need
to put around Bonix in order to make him successful
this year. I think they did a tremendous job in
the off season, uh, making the acquisitions, picking the draft picks,
and we're going to see that happen, you don't. I
love what Boni said in his video, and I'm going

(24:21):
to make this quick point, just really quickly, is you
don't really measure the off season until the entirety of
the season has concluded. And I can't wait to be
back in this position a year from now talking about
the exact same thing, hopefully even more optimistic.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Talking with Bremassrimasis three zero three, let's talk Broncos. What
are you most looking forward to out of this first
preseason game?

Speaker 1 (24:45):
What what player do you most have your eye on?

Speaker 4 (24:49):
You know, I was debating on whether or not I
really buy into the idea that the starters were to
get a go at that right like the first preseason game.
Is it going to be less about the big names
and more about the big opportunities. Payton already really made
it clear that starters will play, but it's not really
about putting your core roster in harm's way. I think

(25:10):
the NUTURE game preseason format, you know, coaches have made
it very parent that they're going to be intentional about reps.
So I'm hoping that you're going to see a lot
of who on the defense, specifically in the secondary, is
going to challenge who I assume is going to be
Mac Jones, a quarterback. You know, San Francisco is probably
going to have their second unit out there. But that's

(25:31):
a great testament to what the twos and threeses are
going to do on the Denver Broncos defense. So I'm
not looking for I'm obviously looking forward to Huvangda being
out there just to see, you know, what he looks
like in true NFL speed and orange and blue. But
when it comes to what the depth looks like like,
are we going to see Kad Devin Key? Who are

(25:53):
the guys that are going to step up and be
able to create a lot of confidence that the depth
is there in the secondary with that cornerback in safety.
So I'm having a little bit of a trust issue
here kind of choosing one player. But if you're going
to consistently put all of your chips on defense, then
you have to know that if one guy goes down

(26:15):
like a Riley Moss did last season, that you're not
going to miss this sort of veteran presence continuity that
is so impressively important to this game. Because right now
Denver Bronco's defense is especially scary on paper. They're going
to be able to prove that here in this first
preseason game, because if this defense is really running on
all motors and cylinders, then they're going to annihilate the

(26:36):
choos and threes of the San Francisco's twos and threes
as well. So that's what I'm excited about. The defense
continuing to be dominant no matter who's out on the field.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
Talk with Bremastons at Breemason's three oh three, you're shifting
gears a little bit. Something Grant pointed out to me yesterday,
the CU Buffs are the most bet team in college
football on their over total of five and a half
and simultaneously the most bet team on their own are
total at five and a half. That seems that seems
weird to me. I think that part of that is

(27:06):
culled the personality. You're betting against the personality rather than
the you know, the team. The idea that the bronage
could be the Buffs would somehow win five games or
fewer looking at that schedule doesn't seem realistic.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Where do you come down on that?

Speaker 2 (27:17):
And how interesting is it to have Colorado be the
most bet on team in college football?

Speaker 4 (27:22):
I think it's by design. At what point do you
not lean into the aspect of bringing in so many
views and having your name in other people's mouths is
kind of the idea of the pr that is the
Buffs right now, like Primes. Buffs want to be known,
they want to be hurt, they want to be talked about.

(27:44):
It is very interesting that the over amy under. It's
almost like I'm trying to draw that out on a map.
So what they're landing at six wins? That not six wins?
I think they probably go over, But I wonder how
many of those are individuals hedging their bets because this
team is why unpredictable. You lose two of your greatest players,
and that's not the service to other players that have

(28:06):
gone on to be drafted or undrafted free agents in
the league. It's just you really lost a lot of
momentum there, and you're still trying to figure out who
your quarterback of the future is going to be, because
I feel like that's still up in the air. But
the Buffs have an opportunity to prove something of themselves
and what they've built, including the momentum of that they

(28:26):
do right by the transfer portal is coach Prime where
he needs to be in order for this team to
be successful. And so at the end of the day,
this team is a little bit of a wild card
because you're not quite sure what to expect as the
continuity changes over the years. As you lose players, you're
not quite sure what you're replacing each time you get
that new team, and as quickly as they turn over

(28:48):
their roster, it's just sort of the question mark that
you're left with. So I don't blame people for being
very confused, for Vegas being very confused where those lines land.
And at the end of the day, I got to
to pour into the hometown team. It's got to be
go Buffs, and I hope they go over Let's go.
I don't know, seven wins.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
I like it seven wins at least in a bowl
game again.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
Right.

Speaker 4 (29:12):
Exactly.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
Speaking of one.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Of those great Buffs that played under coach Prime, Travis Hunter,
it was reported today that he will play both sides
of the ball for the Jaguars and their preseason opener.

Speaker 1 (29:23):
Do you think that's something?

Speaker 3 (29:24):
I mean, we saw how great he was at Colorado
when in the Heisman playing both sides every snap of
every game. But how sustainable is that at the NFL level?

Speaker 4 (29:33):
Do you think?

Speaker 1 (29:33):
I mean, it's just.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
Such a drastic step from college to the NFL. Do
you think that he could play, you know, sixty percent
of the offensive snaps and forty percent of the defensive snaps.
So do you think it'll be a game by game basis.

Speaker 4 (29:46):
The beauty of being a unicorns like the idea that
nobody can predict you. You are an enigma, you are
outside of the norm, Like we do not know what
that is going to look like or how successful that's
going to be be because it seems so infrequently. There's
a lot of athletes within college football and the NFL,

(30:06):
but no one has really shown proof positive like Travis
Hunter has that he has the ability and the motor
to continue to play at a high level. He's not
just taking a few reps. He's playing both sides of
the ball for the majority of the game. You don't
know how that stacks up in the NFL, and you
can't count his motor out until you actually give that

(30:27):
the opportunity to run its course. And I command like
I commend the jackwires for leaning into it instead of saying,
you know what, we really prefer that you are a
wide receiver given your God given talents, and that's what
we're going to lean into. They're putting all of their chips,
which they did when they made the pick into Hunter
in his ability to play both ways in meaningful reps

(30:50):
for a long time. Now, as far as sustainability goes,
you always worry about the NFL because it is not
for long. How long would his career last? Our injury
is that much more common? Like, what are the statistics
on that? But we don't have the science to back
it up. So in my mind, if he wants to
do it, the team wants to give him the opportunity.

(31:12):
I say, you lean into it. See how long you
can do that, and if it's proofpod and the fifteen, Like,
I'm really excited to see not only the experimental side
of it, but what does it mean for Travis Hunter
the player. Does he get to showcase his talents at
the next level and is that development actually going to
make like a household name superstar, future Hall of Famer.

(31:33):
I think it's it's worth it, and I'm really excited
to see how it turns out.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
It's always good to talk to you real quick before.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
We let you go. Prediction for Saturday Night, prediction for
the season.

Speaker 4 (31:47):
Prediction for Saturday Night, I say the Broncos defense, just
some others, whether it's pretty or Mac Jones. Honestly, at
the end of the day. I think the Broncos and
their defense is going to be the keystone piece for
how this season plays itself out. I set it at
the beginning of the two early record predictions that it
was going to be eleven wins for this team. I

(32:09):
have not been convinced otherwise. I've seen the gamin of it.
I feel comfortable with eleven. So I'm going to go
eleven and six for the total record for the Denver
Broncos in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
All right, we'll hold you to it, obviously. If you
get that wrong, we will mercilessly roast you on Twitter,
as is our custom.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
Remakes this. We appreciate it as always.

Speaker 4 (32:29):
Thank you guys.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
Have a good one, all right, take care. We come back.
I think we got Parker Gabriel from the Denver Post
going to join us. He was boots on the ground
out there. We get a little

Speaker 2 (32:38):
Clarity on who's making up this nonsense about Patser Tan
Broncos Country night back after this
