(00:24):
used to do it back in the seventies. That's the
last time a new episode came out.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
What a show we've had tonight though, Yeah, it's been.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
It's been jampacked, and we're going to keep a keep
the party going going right with the KWA comtl hotline
and bring out our guy boots on the ground out
there in San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post, park are you doing.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Hey, I'm doing good, doing pretty well.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
It was an interesting day on Twitter watching some of
the and I'm going to use air quotes here reporting
about the practice scrimmage and how much of it was
and I'm not using air quotes now laughably wrong. I
had no less than half a dozen Niners beat people
and assistant coaches texting me gushing at.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
The Broncos defense, talk about how dominant it was.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
And then there's a radio program here in twent talk
about how they were getting asolutely shelled out there. You
were actually there, So walk us through how this practice went.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Yeah, well early on, I mean so basically the way
we split it up was my very talented beat partner
Luca Evans, for the most part, watched Denver's defense and
the Niners offense. I mostly watched the Broncos offense and
the forty nine ers defense. But like they had us
in a good spot where you could see a little
bit of everything. So especially early in practice, like every
(01:38):
time I looked over at the Broncos defense, like the
ball hit the ground. So they just didn't they dominated early.
Now San Francisco, you know brock Purty in the offense,
they got to go in a little bit late in practice.
I think they had a there was in the move
the ball period.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
At the end of practice.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
I think the number one offense ended up kicking a
field goal and the number two offense scored.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
A touchdown, so like there was I think, you know,
Kyle Shanahan.
Speaker 4 (02:02):
And Brock Berty after practice felt good overall about what
the forty nine ers offense did, and they were more
productive later.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
In practice, but especially the first half.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
And I think like the overall takeaway for the day
was that the Broncos defense was a handful for for
the Niners offense.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
That's the way it seemed.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
I mean I was talking with uh chatting with an
assistant coach from the Niners, and he could not stop
being effusive in his praise, talking, Yeah, this is absolutely championship,
super Bowl caliber defense, and you guys had you know,
I only had seventy five percent of it out there
with green Law and Singleton and Jones not even out
there practicing. You know, as we look at that, That's
(02:41):
that's something though that I think we kind of knew,
but now it's nice to see it affirmed. On the
flip side of that, where does that leave the Broncos
offense and how they did today?
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Yeah, well I'll just give you one more like a
pretty good set of eyes on the Broncos defense. I
had a very brief but a nice quick chat with
John Lynch the forty nine or general manager after practice,
and the first thing he said to me was, well,
the defense is real, so like you know that that's
a pretty that's a pretty good uh, that's a pretty
(03:12):
good person obviously played in Denver for a long time too,
but that would be a pretty good evaluator on the
Broncos defense.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
And that's for the offense. Like I thought, bough Nicks
was pretty sharp. You know, they're there.
Speaker 5 (03:25):
They didn't I think, especially with sort of like the
top group.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
And when I say top group, like basically we're talking
about is Nicks and the offensive line, like they really
are still in that mode where like, yeah, you know
Dobbinson Harvey mostly, but they're rotating through you know a lot.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Of guys at wide receiver.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
When Nix is on the field, I mean, like Nickson
the number one offensive line got a ton of work today.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
So, like I thought, they were pretty sharp. It wasn't like.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Bombs away forty and fifty yard games all over the place,
but they did a pretty good job. And really, like
I think one thing is like Nick did not put
the ball in Harm's way until the very end, and
then he did twice in pretty rapid succession. Which you know,
I mean you make a note of. But overall, like
running game was fine. It wasn't bad by any stretch.
(04:16):
They didn't rip off a bunch of big runs, and overall,
like I thought, Nicks was relatively effisient for most.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Of the day.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Tylo with Parker Gable that they were post.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
One note that was passed along to me and you
can confirm this, deny it whatever, was that the Niners
managed to get a little pressure up the middle of
that line, specifically over Wattenberg.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Would would you say that would be a correct assessment, Yeah, definitely,
I mean C J.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
West beat you know, some combination of Wattenberg and Quinn
minors for like a clean sack.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
There was a couple of times, I mean, like over
the course of practice.
Speaker 4 (04:50):
I thought they protected pretty well early on, the Niners
sort of ramped up the pressure as it went along.
There was a couple of times, like I'm thinking up
to in particular, where you know, they they they blitzed
and they and they sort of like you know, you're
never quite like one hundred percent sure, especially when you're
just seeing it once live. But like where the Broncos
like they didn't have a back in protection. It was,
(05:11):
you know, five on five they got a free runner
up the middle. Certainly a couple of times where like
bow Knicks would have been sacked, and a couple of
times where Nicks made, you know, really good plays to
either you made a quick you know, not a sexty play,
but if the eight yards Evan Ingram in the flat
where you sort of see Ingram's value in that underneath
(05:32):
safety valve way where you know you're throwing off the
back foot with a guy in your face type of thing,
and then a couple where you know, yeah, I mean
they hit home a couple of times, particularly up the middle,
and then you know, I mean like Nick Bostly got
Mike m Glinchay a couple of times like that's gonna
happen when you're going against a guy of that caliber.
Speaker 5 (05:52):
So definitely more pressure from.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
The forty nine ers as the day went along.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Tyler Barker, Gabriel the Denver Post.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Was there anybody that jumped out at you today on
the offensive side of the ball. I mean, we did
see some tweets about Vyley catching one, Troy Franklin got
a couple. Who else was popping off the page?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Today, Yeah, I thought Tyler Bday had a good day,
you know.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
He Yeah, that's a tough It's give me a tough
room to crack, I think. But he's just one of.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
Those guys, like he's kind of a gamer. You know,
every time you get in a live situation, it seems
like he makes productive plays.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
And today was no different.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
He had a couple of good runs, caught the ball
well out of the backfield, and so I would say
him and then yeah, I mean you mentioned him. But
like every day we're out there at camp and every
day that that, you know, in a situation like this,
like it's been sort of the training camp of Troy Franklin.
Like he just keeps making plays. And again, it's not
like the forty three yard touchdown in Buffalo in the playoffs, right,
(06:52):
you're talking about comebacks, digs, working over the middle of
catching the ball in traffic, getting free where you're not
just blowing past somebody and taking the top off, but
like running a good route and getting open.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
He's just doing that, you know, at a much higher
clip than he was doing it at the time last year.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Well well yeah, and that would be the thing, I mean,
it would be the tail of two training camps. I
mean last year Troy Franklin's training camp, and I'm not
being hyperbolic here might have been the worst training camp
I've ever seen for a wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Well, and for a guy that you traded up for.
I think the thing about it, like you trade up
for him, you take him early on day three, and
it just was like it was sort of I mean
like in a lot of ways, like teaching her to
play receiver, you know.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
I mean he's not lining up, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Outside the college hash marks and run in three routes
like you're There's a.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Lot of nuance. There's a lot of detail, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Sean Payton is detail oriented, to put it lightly, about.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
Everything, but I think seemingly.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
Especially receiver play splits, releases, footwork all of this minute.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
And it took a long time, but he like to
troice credit.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
I think he worked hard on it, and he was
a lot better player at the end of the year
than he was when training camp started. And it seems
like that trajectory has continued, you know, through.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Now a couple of other things here.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
I want to get to talk to Park Gabriela of
The Dever Post you know two things the wide receiver room.
You know, we just talked about Troy Franklin, but there
is sort of this amongst fantasy football players. And I'm
getting pushedback from people who are in Saint Louis and
haven't been to a single Broncos practice, But whatever, there's
some disparity over how they feel the splits have gone
(08:37):
for JK.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Dobbs at R. J.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
Harvey, and the involvement of Pat Bryant. I would say
that Troy Franklin is probably wide receiver four at this point,
Bryant probably five in Sherfield six.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Would you say that that's the case, I'm off there.
Speaker 1 (08:50):
And then this split with with with Harvey and Dobbins, Well,
what would you say the usage split has been so
far with.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
The two of them.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Yeah, I mean, let's start with the receivers. I totally
agree with you, but I think with Sherfield, like from
a fantasy perspective, sure, hope he might be last of
those guys, but like you know, little Jordan Humphrey is
not on this roster, and when you watch, like when
you think.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
About, Okay, who's going to get the ball?
Speaker 4 (09:17):
A lot like Sherfield's not the first guy that comes
to your mind, But I keep coming back.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
I don't know Bet how you feel about it.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
But like when you think about the question, who's going
to play a lot? Like part of me thinks he's
going to play a lot because he blocks at the
point of attack, and you know they trust him on
the field in the run game. The little Jrton Humphrey
played half of their offensive snatch last year, And that's
kind of like like Sherfield might be a little bit.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
Better receiver, a little better athlete. He's not maybe quite
as big.
Speaker 4 (09:44):
As LJ was, But like that's a position that Champaigne
is adamant about using, that he puts a lot of
value in and that he has sort of like a
specific mold for. And I just like, at this point,
I'm not quite sure how he doesn't have a role
in the offense even if he's not a big receiving threat.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yeah, that that makes a lot of sense. Plus he's
gonna get a lot of the special teams work too,
but he's gonna get snaps. The running back situation, it
looks to me like that it is going to lean
heavily on JK. Dobbins early in the season, and you
might see a shift to R. J. Harvey as the
season goes long, but the pass pro for Harvey hasn't
been there. And we have seen time and time again
that Sean Payton values that to an extent that he
(10:25):
will put running backs out there that can do that
that don't run the football.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
I E N.
Speaker 4 (10:32):
Yeah, And last year Davonte Williams right, there was no juice,
you know, there just was not a lot of juice.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
In Javonte's legs at time. Lester he had that one.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
He had a good stretch where like he looks fresh and.
Speaker 4 (10:43):
All of that, but like he played a lot because
he protects and like and because he's reliable and that
like right now, that's JK. Dobbins And then I don't
know that you can say that category about anybody else
in the room, maybe like the day is next, but
like we also know that they love Harvey and that
he's probably gonna play a lot. And so to me,
(11:05):
it's like I'm just I'm fascinated, and I don't think
I quite have a good grasp yet on like what
the room looks like beyond Dobbins and Harvey. And I
agree with you, like I think Dobbyns will play a
lot earlier in the year, and I think ideally, like
I don't know that it'll be like a wave, but
like Dobbin's gonna play a lot earlier in the year,
but you also want him available for the late season
(11:29):
push and thinking about the postseason and all of that.
So like you know that to me, like Harvey is
gonna get.
Speaker 5 (11:35):
Time, it's just a matter of like who else and.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Can they really trust Harvey or Audrey Estimate or Jaleel
to like protect if it's you know, passing.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Down type of situation, right, And that that's been my
thing is like that is a thing you go back
to Sewn's days with the New Orleans Saints and you
could see guys would not get on the field if
they could not pass protect, despite their ability to run
the ball or whatever to whatever, to whatever means that
they could. As we look forward to this game here
on Saturday, to be right here on KA of course,
(12:09):
Dave Logan Rick Lewis on the Culsh's Awards on the sideline.
Is there anything specific that you're looking for, because that
note I got today, Like I'm gonna be looking at that.
Luke Wattenberg and seeing how he holds up there in
the center of the offensive line. Of course, i'body looking
for my guy Vala. Is there anything else anybody else
you're really looking at? I want to see Reeze Taylor
a little bit. Is there anybody you're specifically looking at.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
For this game?
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (12:31):
Ree Tayler is a good one. I mean, he's a
guy I think he almost made the fifty three last year,
ended up playing I think in one game, was on
the special you know Pac squad all year, and they
just have so much depth at corner that's gonna be
tough there.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
But like he's the type of guy that, like, these
games are really important.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
I'm interested in.
Speaker 4 (12:50):
I'm interested in seeing jday Baron obviously game situation, not
not because of anything he's done or hasn't done, but
just like he's the first round pick. It'll be the
first time he's on the field than a game setting.
And then to me, Ben, like the the defensive line
was really good today by all accounts, and like I
just think you're shaping up there where. You know, obviously
(13:11):
you drafted Davion Jones in the third round, so you're
talking about maybe one roster spot maybe for uaza Rika
and Jordan Jackson. They were both really good in the
joint practice today, so I'm curious to see, you know.
Sean Payton gave the old it's an important camp line
in terms of Uazouiq, which typically means like you're fighting
(13:33):
for a spot.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
They like Jordan Jackson, they thought he made it comfortably
on the roster last year.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Like that's a pretty darn good battle for maybe one spot.
So those guys in just that defensive line depth, some
of the young outside linebackers, like that's a fun part
of the roster to try to figure out because there's
some guys that can play in that group and you're
doing a little bit of a balance between you know,
upside and maybe who helps you right.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Now, park Gabriel and Parker J.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
Gabriel the Twitter boots on the ground there Ian San Francisco.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
You guys want to pay attention to that. Parker.
Speaker 1 (14:04):
We appreciate you jumping us, jumping on here with us
as always.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
You bet have you I guys, yep, Parker.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
Gabriel the Never Post.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Always love talking to Parker and that's one of the
guys locally that I trust their eyes on you know,
on things down there as well.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
And one of the.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Coaches from the Niners who had sent me that note
about Luke Wattenberg, you know, we were getting pressure up the middle.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Parker echoed that as well. So that's that observation.
Speaker 6 (14:26):
Holds water, unbiased, always spot on, honest reporting.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
Yeah, he does.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
He does a great job, something that is not common
these days, but Parker does it well.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
Yeah. Uh and one of my yeah, one of my
favorites locally. So good to see that when we come back,
we're going to get an NFL six pack. I do
believe right here on Bronkos' Country at length.
Speaker 1 (14:52):
Benjamin Albright here with you, zax Seegers stepping in here
do the six pack?
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Grand Smith back there.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Producing don't know if you guys watched, but it's already
Drew somber to remember, he's thrown an interception early on
the I believe it was his first drive through an interception,
very nearly through a.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Second one a while there.
Speaker 6 (15:10):
So yes, Trew lock locked and loaded, hashtags, locked and loaded,
working out the kinks.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
It's a pre season. We don't countterceptions, right, yeh. Pro
bowler by the end of the year.
Speaker 7 (15:19):
Is a comforting of presents for me because he's just
he's so reliable in the sense you know exactly what
he's going to do, and that's throw interceptions.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
When he plays the Colts in the dead of December
against the uh yeah, Giant's the first overall pick came.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
War Texans in December.
Speaker 7 (15:36):
South teams in December are like his anti kryptonite.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
He makes it a Drew Somber to remember.
Speaker 6 (15:41):
I'm just saying, also, Seeger has showed me something. The injury,
the cone injury. I'm waiting to see this. It is discussed.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
He's not. He's not shown me this yet. I'm waiting.
Get on Twitter. It has not come through. I did
not receive. It's rough. Send it again. Yeah, not received.
It's not fun. You're discretioning it.
Speaker 7 (16:01):
I feel bad for him because he's a rookie. He's
a late round rookie. He you know, just certainly at
least had a chance of making the roster. Now he'll
probably hang around on ir one would hope that. Yeah,
that is that's the bad part of the preseason. You know,
thankfully it hasn't been too prevalent so far. But that's uh,
that's you hate to see that.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
By the way, to the Seahawks, Holdani the running back there,
he's been bawling out this scheme.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Halani, Yeah, I'm familiar. It wasn't either I was. I
was Shequillo Leo. I'm not familiar with her game.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
You were talking about the bad part of the preseason.
That's the beauty of the preseason.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Right, Yeah, Like I can imagine three guys sitting around,
you know, twenty five years ago being like Terrell Davis.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
I don't remember seeing the future Hall of Famer. Huh huh.
You gotta love it. All right, let's get the fol
six back. It's time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
I'm gonna trek the last year insight and insight information
you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
I know, the top six NFL headline.
Speaker 7 (16:57):
What George Lane by the way, the other running back.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
On Boise State last year. Yeah, that's that's pretty fun.
Speaker 7 (17:07):
Matthew Stafford has been held out of training camp practices
with fac soreness. Yesterday, Ian Rappacort reported that Stafford is
dealing with an aggravated disc in his back and that
the current hope is that he'll be ready for Week
one of the regular season. When do you think, though,
that we will see Stafford under center for the Rams
And how worried do you think Rams fans should be
(17:29):
at this point about it either wrecking the front half
of their season or flaring up down the stretch and
taking the back half of what's an all in season
for them.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
Well, I reported last year about his back and his elbow,
and nobody believe it at the time.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
I guess they do now.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
But he's been battling that stuff and doing different things
to try to try and he gutted through. To be fair,
he got it through a pretty tough season last year
and wound up running into the Eagles buzz saw there
at the end in Philadelphia, and.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
That's what got him.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
He is going to have a team physical this weekend
and if he passes that, he'll be a practice on Monday,
or at least available to practice on Monday, and they
are in person. Whether or not he actually starts doing
all that is that. But he's he's wearing down the
back of the elbow. But a thing is there were
people talking about trying to sign him out here in
Denver and all that kind of stuff, and I'm like,
(18:19):
that is not a thing.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
He is not.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
He will not pass a physical here.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
The only the people who were desperate enough was the Raiders,
you know, this offseason, and the Raiders were gonna, they
were gonna, they were all in on it, and he
used that to fish out a better offer from the Rams,
you know, in the end. So here's what it is.
As far as the rest of it goes. Yeah, it's
gonna affec him most season. We'll see if he's able
to gut it through. He is a gutsy guy. You mean,
he got it through last year. We'll see he can
(18:44):
get it through again this year.
Speaker 7 (18:45):
It's so hard to repeat, and like the Eagles, field
Head and Shorters above the rest of the NFC. But
with them, you know, trying to go back to back
and all the extra weight that that carries. It feels
like the Rams had as good a shot of anyone
in the NFC right now if I'll beat the Mast
almost beat them last year exactly, and they just need
the stars to align, and I feel like they could
(19:06):
potentially get Stafford another ring, maybe cement his place in
the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
But I can also see this season.
Speaker 7 (19:11):
Going like bo is It twenty twenty two, twenty twenty
three for them where they were, you know, six eleven
team and kind of it just didn't pan out.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
I don't believe in the Jimmy g operation at all.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Yeah, I certainly don't believe in the Garoppolo portion of
this at all. What I will say is I am
less high on them as a complete team than you
guys apparently are. I think Arizona is the cream of
the crop in that division this year. I really think
they are. And we're gonna get a chance to see
(19:41):
them up close in person next week when they come
out here and practice. Hi, Arizona wins that division. I
think Arizona might be the second or third best team
in the NFC this year. Wow I am I am
not speaking hyperbole. I legitimately believe they are going to
be a very good football team this year. I believe
that when I see it. By the way, the Cardinals
beat the Rams in Week two last year forty one
(20:05):
to ten. Last year, what happened in the other game
was a tight was like sixteen to nine or something.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
I think that there were some injuries. We met the
Cardinals in the playoffs last year. About that, How did
they do against the Eagles. Actually they beat him. It's backfired,
burned yourself.
Speaker 7 (20:23):
Aaron Rodgers said he's willing to play in the preseason
for the Steelers with backup quarterback Will Howard dealing with
an injury. Do you think Rogers will play in this
preseason or I guess how much do you think he
plays in the preseason?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
And will we see a different.
Speaker 7 (20:37):
Version of Aaron Rodgers off the field under coach Tomlin.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
Well, I don't know if you guys saw some of
the preview clips of him working.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
Out like he was moving in slowan know.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
It was so bad. It was so bad. He does
not have the quick you know, anymore as far as
that could. I mean, he just looked like an old man,
looked like Peyton Manning.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
You know.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
At the end, with.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
All that, they do have Mason Rudolph, they got Skyler Thompson,
they just signed Logan Woodside. They'll be fine. Rodgers will
get a couple of series. They'll be handing the ball
off most of it. Yeah, I don't think that this
is a thing really at all. And to be fair,
I mean, the Steelers are going to be a run
heavy football team this year with a combination of Jalen
Warren and Caleb Johnson and Kenneth Gainwell, So I mean whatever,
(21:24):
they're just hoping that Rogers can be more serviceable and
reliable than what they had last year.
Speaker 2 (21:29):
And the age point's a good one.
Speaker 7 (21:31):
The only quarterback that's played at forty one and hasn't
been just absolutely dreadful was Tom Brady. You know, I
think we take that for granted some and I don't know,
maybe Aaron Rodgers is all out of gas and it
is going to look like a twenty fifteen Peyton Manning season,
maybe without the defense.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Maybe we'll see how it works out. But the rest
of those quarterbacks certainly don't inspire anything. But they've got
no other Odgerers.
Speaker 7 (21:53):
Three Eagle's running back Saquon Barkley compared first round selection
Jahad Campbell well to Cowboys star Micah Parsons. Do you
see the similarities between the two And what are your
expectations for Jehad Campbell and that Eagles defense this season?
Speaker 1 (22:11):
No, I don't think he's on that level. Campbell's a
heck of an athlete, Don't.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Get me wrong.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
He's a four or five forty guy, and he's been
he's been that dude his whole career, whether it was
you know, in college or back at im G Academy
in high school. All that, I think he's a very
good player. I think Saquan might be engaging in hyperbole
for a teammate, but you know, at the end of it,
(22:41):
I think he's gonna be a very good player. I
don't put him in the same tier as Michael Parsons,
and I don't.
Speaker 2 (22:46):
Think you can do that until you see them produce
on the field.
Speaker 7 (22:50):
So at a high level for a few years, and
Michah Parsons has verified pair for sure. I remember Johad
Campbell fell because of the shorter issue. Do you think
that's the much of a concern.
Speaker 2 (23:01):
That's that's part of it. The other part is, and
this is unfair.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
His name is Jihad, right, he is actually Muslim and
his name is Jihad, And there were people that felt
like that there were certain places that if he were
to go, might be less than welcoming to, you.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Know, somebody of that faith with that name.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
And I think that's completely unfair, But that that is
what it is.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
Interesting. Marina four, another Madden one for you.
Speaker 7 (23:29):
Ben Patrick Mahomes is no longer the top quarterback in
the video game. He's now a ninety five overall, which
ranks fifth in the game, and he's behind ninety nine
club members Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, as well as
ninety seven overall quarterback Joe Burrow. I guess fourth technically
tied with whom let me get the exact list, you know, Okay.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
Should he be ranked behind Lamar Jackson? No, but Lamar's
athleticism and those numbers push that overall number up there.
If you were to look at it, the throwing accuracy
and the throwing power and those numbers that actually matter,
I'm sure that he's better than Lamar Jackson at those
those kinds of things, specifically in the mid game, the
throwing medium passes and all.
Speaker 2 (24:11):
That kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Josh Allen being on that level, fine, I'm fine with that.
Josh has an extremely strong arm and obviously hyper mobile.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
What was the other Joe Burr?
Speaker 1 (24:23):
Y Burrow is probably the best pure passer in the
league right now, and he's got mobility to even though
the injuries sort of taken a little bit of that away.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
He said yesterday he's starting the best he's throwing the
ball in years. Yeah, he's still coming off last year's performance.
Speaker 3 (24:37):
Yeah, he's I.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Mean Burrow probably, I mean, for being honest, he probably
is the best pure passer in the league right now.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
So you know, I sort of I get it.
Speaker 1 (24:45):
I mean again, I don't care about the overall ratings
of these players, is how do they play when you
play with them? And I think you're doing yourself a
disservice if you're pretending that playing with Lamar Jackson is
somehow better than Pat Mahomes.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
And correction what I said earlier, he's all alone in
fourth place, big tear drop actually between him and the
number five spot, where you have Matt Stafford at an
eighty eight overall raty, Jared Goff at eighty seven, Hurts
at eighty six, I'm tied with Justin Herbert also at eighty.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Herbert should be higher than all of those guys, I
would agree.
Speaker 7 (25:17):
And then you've got Mayfield, Jade and Daniels at eighty five,
Purdy Prescott at eighty four's Jordan Lovit in eighty three
to U. C. J. Stroud, Gino Smith round out the eighties,
and then you've got seventies, Bonix at seventy nine, tied
with Kyler, just ahead of Drake May and Sam Darnold.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Those all feel weird in that order. Agree, I'll live
with it.
Speaker 6 (25:40):
I will say though, I became a huge, well I
want to say, a huge, much bigger Jared Goff fan
after watching him in that quarterback series.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
He's just the thing about Jared Goff. He's good, and
then he has these games where he is just goffing,
you know, like you're like, what happened with them?
Speaker 1 (25:58):
You know where he just craters, like once or twice year,
he just craters.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
And it'll be interesting to see with the new.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
Offensive cooridator, our old friend John Morton here from Denver,
you know.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
How how that looks this year. I think there's gonna
be a big drop off for that offense.
Speaker 7 (26:10):
Five earlier tonight, Anthony Richardson started in the colts first
preseason game, but left the contest early with a finger injury.
Prior to the injury, though Richardson had a lack lesser performance,
took a big hit where he couldn't identify a blitz.
Rough to see that at the start of year three? Anyways,
is this the end of the quarterback competition.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Between him and Daniel Jones.
Speaker 7 (26:32):
And how do you think the coaching staff in front
office even survives and keeps their job if Daniel Jones
winds up being.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
The team's starting quarterback. There was no competition.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Daniel Jones was always going to win that job, and
it was, you know, set up the same way that
other sham competitions like Drew Locke versus Teddy Bridgewater or
Jarrett Stidham versus bo Nix, where you have the quarterback
that's obviously losing starting the first game and the quarterback
that's obviously winning starting the second game.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
And you know, we see how that's gonna go.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Daniel Jones the quarterback there, and if he doesn't work out,
it won't work out for our Shane Stikeen or Chris Ballad,
they'll be gone. That You've got a new owner there
and Jim Mersey's daughter taken over and they have a
mandate they need to get to the playoffs in that
very soft division. They don't get to the playoffs this year.
They're getting moused and I guess, man, it just shows how.
Speaker 7 (27:18):
Bad things are with Anthony Richardson that you could feel
like Daniel Jones is the better option there because I'm
not a Richardson believer at this point, but I feel
like the Daniel Jones ceiling is so low now with
his neck injuries and whatnot. He just doesn't have the
zip on the ball anymore.
Speaker 2 (27:33):
Where I wonder.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
If even in a lackless ERUC South, that they can
compete for the playoffs truly with Daniel Jones at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Well you would if you're a cold fan, you hope.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
So we'll see, but Riley Leonard is not pushing either
one of them.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
It's Daniel Jones's show to run, and we'll see what
he's able to do.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
But you don't really think they're going to be in
playoff contention to you in that division.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I mean, you've got a Titans team that's probably not
going to be very good. A Jags team is still
trying to build, it's probably not going to be very good,
and you're playing a schedule that's not going to be
very tough. You know, overall, they should make the play
They should be in contention to make the playoffs, because
all you got to do is split with Houston and
you're looking at you know, four or five division wins
(28:13):
there six.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Quick note, there was.
Speaker 7 (28:17):
Some fear that Chauncey Gardner Johnson towards ACL that it's
been corrected.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
With reporting it. Yeah, that was not the case.
Speaker 7 (28:24):
Yeah, yeah, So he's just that injury news isn't in
here because it seems like he's good to go, but
we're not fully sure. Following Traylon burks retirement, AJ Brown
was asked about how he felt about the Titans Eagles
Draft Day trade where the Titans shipp DJ Brown to
the Eagles in return for a draft pick, where that
they then spent on Traylon Burks. Aj Brown said quote,
(28:45):
I'm grateful that happened. I outgrew that situation in Tennessee.
I'm glad this happened because I felt like I was
meant to shine. We needed a big team with a
big market. I think this is the right place and
the best fit for me. I am a little sad
for Traylon Burks. I wish you could get healthy because
he's a good kid. I talked to him numerous times.
I've got his number, and it sucks to see.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
It go down like that. How do you think A J.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
Brown would be viewed currently if he remained in Tennessee
and that trade never went down. And do you think
Philly would have won a Super Bowl without A J. Brown?
Speaker 1 (29:16):
I think AJ Brown would still be in the same
conversation that he's in if he were there. That said,
I do not believe that Philadelphia would have won a
Super Bowl without some of the great plays that he's
made along the way to get them there.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
Philly would be the worst off for not having done that.
It was interesting when that deal went down.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
I don't know if you watched the clip live, but
you could see Mike Rabil just absolutely losing his his
you know what that they traded away AJ Brown for
the for just a draft pick to get Treylon Burke's
who had just you know, never worked out for.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
I mean, Brown is a great wide receiver that brought
the Eagles would not have won without.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
A couple of weeks prior to that whole trade, I
think Mike Frabel said, you know, the day A. J.
Brown gets traded is the day I'm no longer the
Titans head coach.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
And then you know clearly was about at dark on
that one.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (30:08):
Yeah, Well wound up getting kind of fired because of
how that blew up in his face, even though he
seemed like a staunch.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Opponent of it. He was a staunch opponent of it.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
The problem is you had too much power play going
on behind the scenes there. He still do in Tennessee
with which had Brisker and all those guys, and.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
It seems like a total matter. It is an.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Absolute you know what show. And that's the thing. Cam Woard,
who's looked pretty decent in training camp this year, the
people I talked to you down there, he.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
Feels like the real deal. It might be.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
I don't know that he's what what you think of
as an elite guy, but he's going to come in
and be okay, you know right off this is there's
not going to be much of a curve. I think
for him, he's going to hit the ground running with
with what his skill set is. The question is that
the pieces around him, you know, honestly, And so we'll
see defensively what they're able to do there in Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
And if this I never thought much of Brian Callahan.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
As a as a head coach, even though he's a
candidate here at one point, believe or not, I just
didn't think that much of him, and seeing it down
in Tennessee, last year, I didn't think much of him either.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
I kind of like cam Wood is a fantasy dice
roll this year the running ability, I think he could
be like this year's bo Nicks, and bo Nix is
now going like QB seven, so you don't have to
pay that price side for.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
Him, right, And that's that's also weird to me to see,
but you know whatever Broncos Country Tonight rolls on type
of this
