Dot com, Slash podcast, or wherever you get your podcast Apple, iTunes, Spotify,
the totally free and awesome my Heart radio app where
you can also get to take It.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
For Granted podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
I had to do my own nailed it last night
when cover was here because he was not prepared.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Leave it to coover to be unprepared. I'm just saying
five six six nine zeros text line. Nick. You know
it's funny because we were talking a.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Little bit about a couple of coaches we coach Prime
Pete Carroll Jerry Glanville. Coaches with creative ways of building
culture at their program or at least innovators and doing
things that are all outside the box that other people
aren't doing. What is a way that Sean Payton way
that he can build a better coaching culture.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Well, the first thing I'm going to say is take
a page out of what Sean McVay is doing out
there with the Rams.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
And what I mean.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
By that is, you know, the coaching profession, it's a
tight knit group and it's based on who you know
are more importantly, who knows you and to grow your staff.
It's always great to be a head coach and watch
your disciples who came up under you go to different.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Teams and become head coaching because that.

Speaker 3 (01:36):
Shows as though you are building a winning coacher and
other teams.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Are owners around.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
The league view your organization as being that pool where
they can grab talent.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
That's the difference betwen a boss and a leader. Yeah right.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
A boss is how can these people help me succeed?
A leader is how can I help those people succeed?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Absolutely, And I've seen it in so many different ways. One,
you know, being here as a member of the Denver
Broncos watching certain coaches come from Mike Shanahan's coaching tree
and go other places, but more importantly being in San
Francisco as a coach and watching Kyle Shanahan work, watching

(02:17):
Mike McDaniel's work. I mean, I was there with Ris Gangarello,
and there was a little summing to what you know
Ris Gangarello was doing. But watching so many coaches, Robert
sla being one of the tim high Tower who is
especially teams coach for the Chicago Bears, watching those guys
go to different teams and help uplift those teams. But
more importantly, it's about looking at the preseason as not

(02:39):
just an opportunity to evaluate your players on the field
against opposition, but giving your coaches an opportunity that they
rarely received by promoting them and allowing them to step
into a role.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
That we normally don't see them.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Man, And for those who don't know what Dick's talking about,
this was actually going to be a six pack story
to night.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
But we'll go down. We'll do it now Aubrey Pleasant
who works for the Rams.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Sean McVay is making him basically the head coach for
this preseason game, trying to get him some head coaching reps. Now,
he's still gonna do the preparations that he would do it,
all that kind of stuff, but there'll be a little
bit of a left seat right seat and they'll let
coach pleasant coach the game and he's building up the
people around him. And I was just fascinated when I
saw that today. I was like, why haven't coaches been
doing this all along?

Speaker 3 (03:23):
I have no idea, but there's so many coaches who
are coaching now who are trying to get from the
backseat to the passenger and then in the driver's seat themselves.
But this is a clear way to still be in
charge as a head coach, but give your coaches on
the coaching staff much needed experience.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
And look, you know me, I'm not throwing.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Out names just because I feel as though I need
to do that. But this is the conversation I've had
with Sroy Vincent because it's always talking about, Okay, well,
the coaching pipeline. How do we get coaches in the pipeline.
And to become a head coach in this league you
have to be a play caller, but more importantly, you
have to work on the offensive side of the ball.
So if you give your coaches an opportunity in preseason

(04:10):
games where we say, well they don't really.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Count, but they do count.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Everything matters in a preseason game except the final.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Score, right so you give your coaches, I mean a boost,
an opportunity to.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Show what they have.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
So if they were to go out after a successful
season and they're interviewing in front of but would be
employer owner, you can say, you know what when they asked,
have you ever.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Called the game before? You know what?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
It wasn't a regular season, it was a preseason.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
So it counts. It's on my resume.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
One of my favorite, one of my favorite conundrums I
think is the need job experience.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Oh man on a resume. Yes, hey, come into the thing.
Well we need two years experience. Well how a much
spused you to get experienced? I'm trying to get the
job right here, so I get the experience. Oh you
know what?

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Else? Is like that when I was a team and
you were trying to get ID right, it was like, well,
you need ID to get ID.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
I was like, excuse me, I'm sorry what.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, I'm trying to get ID to identify myself when
I go to certain places. But I need a certified
driver's license to do and I'm like, no, I'm not
of legal age. So it is kind of a bizarre
set of circumstances that not just coaches but people in
everyday life run into when there is some criteria to
get a certain job and you need like eight years

(05:23):
of experience, It's like, uh, where am I supposed to
get it into?

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yeah, this is an entry level job. You eight years experience?
Where am I getting?

Speaker 3 (05:29):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
You know, well I want to coach with some experience? Well,
how is he going to get experience? So this is
actually a.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Brilliant move I think by Sean McVay, And it helps
the RAMS take advantage of the NFL's new rules about
hiring specifically minority candidate.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
They're going to mix back off of it.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
So it helps build an organization that is continually bettering
itself while bettering the people in it.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
And I again, I just I remember reading this today.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
I'm like, why have people not been doing this all along? I?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Who?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Boy?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
I want to.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
I had to stop myself because public price nicky church
on a Thursday. Yes, where's my pullpit when I needed?
Here's what happens, Ben, Just to give you just a
pink peak behind the curtain, there's certain coaches who are
very arrogant right where No, Yes they are.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Coaching. Yes we have breaking news. Yes, because ideas that
they've gone.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Through so much in their coaching career, and the guys
they came up under probably treated him like that the
liquid in your garbage can, right, which you know how
that smells. So they feel as though they have to
do that same thing the other individuals. But it is well,
we aren't gonna let certain people in this group.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
There's always been I think in coaching there's been a
fear that the people underneath them are undermining them at
some point. Oh, we saw that happen here in Ver
when VJ was a head coach.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
Yeah, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I mean there is a culture of that in the
in the coaching ranks a little bit or there used
to be.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
I think it's gotten better. I'm not saying it's completely
where it needs to be nowhere it needs to be,
but I think it has gotten better.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
And I feel like that this is when you see
coaches taking pride in their coaching tree and all that
kind of stuff, I think it speaks to a culture
shift in the coaching community.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
Coaching it's it's a little bit different.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
I mean, we used to have some some pretty bitter
enemies in the coaching world, you know, when we were
coming up. Now it's a it's a pretty tight knit community.
You know, almost everybody's coming off one of three trees
anyway at this point. So, uh, maybe that's just a
natural evolution at this point.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Well, there is an idea by certain individuals that if
you're on the current coaching staff, they don't want you
looking for your next job. And listen, I totally get it,
and I totally understand it. But if you have your
coaches staff working as though they're trying to elevate themselves
and get to that next level, guess what, the whole

(08:06):
organization gets better because everyone's putting their best foot forward,
instead of having coaches on your coaching staff who understand
who looks at the glass sailing and said, well I
can only get but so far, but since I already
know that, I'm not even gonna look that hard.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I think the other part of this is is a
top down leadership mentality, because if you're getting like with recesses,
Sean McVay is saying, hey, look, Albert Pussin, I'm gonna
give you reps doing this, So Aubrey should be given
the guy who's next in line for his job, and
it travels downhill and then we create a farm system
where people are being prepared to do these things.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Exactly just like when you go to meet your future
wives and laws for the first time, right, you.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Need to be prepared for that. Oh yeah, you need
to be prepared because there are a.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
Whole movies are instructionals on what you want to do
with the parents.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yes, you need to be prepared to talk to the
father about certain things. And I'm not talking about the
bachelor of the bacheloret that doesn't be prepared, but you
have to have a.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Certain level of preparation.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
I've spoken to several guys who've coached in the NFL
who have been in those meetings where they're trying to
get ahead coaching job and certain questions are being asked.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Some of those guys are prepared, some of the guys
or not.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
And you ask yourself, well, wait a minute, you coached
on this particular coach and they didn't prepare you for
this situation by giving you some mock interview of telling you, Okay,
these are the things that you want to stick to
these things, tear them up in the paper, throw them
in the trash can. This is what Sean McVay is doing.
In a hope we see the NFL do more of this,
because I think it's a brilliant thing.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
You think that'll happen here, You know there's a possibility.
You hope to see it. Yeah, you has shown some change.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
He looks more more easy going this year than he's
looked in previous years. Uh, you had the chance to
do the scouting internship. What have you noticed about Sean
Payton in year two?

Speaker 3 (10:06):
He is different than what most people on the outside
think of him. Right, it's kind of I like it
to being around Bill Parcels. Always tell people there're two people.
There's Bill the Parcels. They're not the same. They're the
same embodiment of the person, but they're different people.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
Right, Bill, he'll talk to.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
You, issued the crap with you, but he quickly switched
to Coach Parcells, and he's going to tell you something
about yourself, And he might even tell you about yourself
in front of your mom. Andy, don't really get too
nicholas about it. But that's kind of who he is.
But you learn to appreciate that. But seeing Coach Peyton
doing my scouting internship, I saw him in a different

(10:51):
light than most people see him. He's entirely different. And
there I say this, He's hilarious. Man. He tells these
stories and you just like, he just has you laughing.
But I wish that most people in the media, most
people in Broncos country, would get a chance to see
him in that way. But they're not going to because

(11:13):
they don't run into those circles and because the job
is so high pressure.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
I mean, you look at what happened last year with Russell.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
You draft both nicks in the first round and the
team hasn't been relevant and been.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
In the playoff for a while.

Speaker 3 (11:29):
That's a lot of pressure on both of those individuals.
But if there's a person I think that can pull
this organization up. And I'm not saying this because I'm
a former Bronco when I did, it's kind of the
internship I truly believe is.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Seeing him in a different light.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, it's interesting when you get behind the curtain a
little bit.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
You get to see behind the behind the facade.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
And it's funny because Bill Dukes, when he was on earlier,
was talking about, you know, if people forget these are
human beings exactly all this. You know, we see the
facade that they put up, we lift moment to moment
we see the facade people put up on things.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
It's funny. I think I think of no greater personal reminder.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Of that than when people who only know me from
social media then meet me for the first time and like,
you are nothing like what I expected, you know, because
I mean like, I'm just a big goofball, Like in
real life, I'm just a big a big goofball. It's like, uh,
and I'm trying to remember who who said it to
me out there at camp. They're like, yeah, social media,
you is Wolverine. Real life he was Deadpool, you know,
like you's a big goofball, and so like that's you know,

(12:25):
that's that's the thing. I think that there are there
are people behind all that. And it's interesting when you
sort of see players who resonate with somebody and you're like, really,
you resonate with that guy, it's because there's show that
that guy is showing them who he really is. Because
that's family, right, that's a unit, that's a team, that's
the whatever whatever unit you're you're uh, you're ascribing to.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
So you get to see that behind the scenes, who.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
They are and how they are in those kind of
interactions a different person, and that's that's how they get
to be successful. You know, you still have people that
are a jerk all the time. I mean that does
that that is a real thing. But I don't think
that that's sustainable, especially the modern culture just just across
where we are now as a society. I don't think
that being a jerk all the time is sustainable.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Well, see, here's what I wanted to know.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
Like, I know, different people we meet on our everyday life,
just being here in Denver, and he asked us questions.
I'm just wondering as a fan, ever come up to
you and say, hey, listen, man, do you really have.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
A Robin costume in your closet?

Speaker 1 (13:25):
No?

Speaker 2 (13:26):
Man, I'll tell you what though.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
I get asked about that gold suit more than anything else.
The gold suit is it does not exist anymore.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
It caught fire. It does not exist. You can get it.
You can get a new I could get a new one.
I have not I've chosen not to, but I could
get a new one.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
But I get asked about that gold I don't get
asked about the Rob costu, But man, do I get
asked about that gold suit all the I'll be talk about.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Doing the lap before the game, walking around.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
I swear to you the fans that are sitting right
there on that first row or whatever, they'll see me
walk in.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Them a gold suit. Oh bright, you got to think,
what do you with a goldie? Man? Look, Okay, let's
be totally honest.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
Man.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
It's all about giving the people what they want.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
And based on what you're telling me is that it's
been high demand for you to bring back, you know,
the gold suit, So you got to bring.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
It back at some point. I got I gotta you
gotta draw the interest out. You gotta draw the interest
long enough. Listen, man, you'll just make the sequel right
after the original. You gotta let it breathe from No, no, no,
you don't. I mean when they did the Matrix they
did too at the same time.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Yeah, but like the original was, you know, like them
the original.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I was a kid that But they're calling for the
Oscar Trophy.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
I tell you what, we make the playoffs and the
gold Suit will make it appearance this year.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
I will put it out.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
I will put it on the Denver Broncos right here.
We make the playoffs, the gold Suits come, you put.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
It on the Broncos. Why you just can't just say,
you know what, here's.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
Where success deserves a reward success.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
And how arrogant is it to suggest that me wearing
a gold suit is a reward.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Well, it's gonna be a reward for a lot of reasons.
Because did Steve Hadward to tell you ever to wear
that suit again?

Speaker 2 (15:01):
He did? Yes, he did.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
We still I gotta find that video because the video
of him coming around that door right there, walking in,
because I was sitting right here and.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
He did not.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
He was not looking as he walked by this window
because there's a giant window. The people at home don't
know there's a giant window. It kind of feels like
we're in a zoo here sometimes, like where the animals
in the caves.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Absolutely, but he didn't look. So it was perfect because
he came right to open the door and he's just
like he would like this to dap me up, and
then he just took his hand away, just kind of
stood back. It was like, what are you wearing?

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yes, so here's what you canna do. Then you can
give it to the fan base in waves. Here's what
I mean, Like every game you bring, you wear something
relative to gold, like the gold belt, gold bow tie,
gold socks.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Okay, right, you know gold cum a bun?

Speaker 3 (15:50):
Just random?

Speaker 2 (15:51):
Where's the cover? Bo just work? Just a regular T
shirt with a cum a bun. That's it. A gold
cub a bun because it says. It says I'm you know,
I'm business. But I also like to part like a tuxedo.
I love gold full of gold. Member on, Oh my goodness,
Oh we've gotten off the rails. We come back.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
It's the NFL six pack, Broncos Country Tonight. Welcome back
to it, Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin Albrighten, Nick Ferguson, Grant
Smith here with you. Live down here at Broncos Park,
Power by Common Spirit here at Valley Grant Smith back
there at Mission Control.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Guys can't wait. Training Camps Power.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
By Chevron Colorado and the Sporty Pickle Bar and Grills
Official Training Camp Bar and Grill of the Kiowe Sports Networks.
It's five minutes from camp here at eighty six to
forty South Poria Sportypickle dot com. Uh, you guys want
to win a pair of tickets to this weekend's preseason
game Broncos Packers. They give it away tomorrow between three
and six on Kiowa Sports. So you have to be

(16:47):
listening then to be able to win. And with that,
let's get to the NFL six pack.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It's time for the NFL six path. I'm gonna trade
the last year at Night Insight at insight information you
can't find anywhere else. Six the top six NFL had
mind what.

Speaker 1 (17:05):
Joe Burrow, Joe, but Joe Burr as it were, for
there you go for Grant Smith has declared himself ready
for a week one. Joe played in thirteen snaps in
the preseason over last week.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
He got to work in a joint practice against the Bears. Today.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
Earle won't play in Saturday night's preseason game. Whether he
works in next week's joint practice against the Colts or
plays in the third game remains to be seen, but
he said when the game come, when Game one comes,
I'll be ready, said that by Jeff Hobson of the
team's website. Doesn't matter if we have another one or not.
The other one's gonna be nice, but I will be ready.
Burrow has got more work this offseason and training camp
than he's ever had rookie season twenty twenty was shortened

(17:42):
by the COVID nineteen pandemic. In twenty twenty one, he
was rehabbing from knee surgery the previous December underwent and
happened deck to me in the first day of camp
in twenty twenty two. Strained his right calf on the
second day of camp twenty twenty three. So the touchdown
drive you engineered last week was the first preseason touchdown
of his career.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
Versy the preseason touchdown driving his career.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
These are all reps I haven't had last couple of years,
and more reps you get before the season, the better
you'll be. How do we feel about Joe Burrow being
ready for Week one and is he kind of gotten
a little.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Bit of a fragile label.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Well, I don' want to say fragile label because you
can say that about most guys who gets injured, but
I like it. I'm not brand who must be over
the moon of aesthetic about this situation. But this gives
the bingals faithful hope that Joe Burrow can, you know,
really get them to where they need to be. And

(18:34):
for a guy who's had a couple of injuries, yeah,
you want him to show you that fire and that injury,
that he is hungry and he can't wait and.

Speaker 2 (18:42):
Get back out there and play competitive football again.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I mean, there's there's been some worry about his overall
health and you know the way that he seems to
always have something wrong. But a lot of guys have that,
and Joe has certainly shown an ability to perform and
play when he's waits. On Next Story two, Get Ready
for More Mike Greenberg Andrew Marchanna of The Athletic reports
that the omnipresident ESPN host is the favorite to replace

(19:06):
Sam Ponder as the host of ESPN's Sunny NFL Countdown,
also in consideration as NFL Live Coast Laura Rutledge. ESPN
fired Ponder and RG three today, and although they were
characterized as financial moves, both had time left on seven
figure deals. Greenberg hosts Get Up, which is a weekday

(19:26):
show the Long Stiff of the breakup of Mike and
Mike in the Morning, ESPN Radio and ESPN two mainstay.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
He also hosts NBA Countdown and Greenee.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
I liked RG three. I've never had a problem with
Sam Pond. I liked RG three. I thought he brought
a different energy. I thought he was genuine and I
thought he was fun. I thought he brought some points
that people didn't consider at times.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
I liked him on that. I'm wondering why he was
let go.

Speaker 1 (19:48):
It seems like a waste to fire somebody with two
years left on a seven figure deal.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
Well, first and foremost, Ben, you know, to answer to
your own question, because there's not a lot of lodgy
that goes into the fire of certain individuals, whether it's
RG three or whether it's it's a coach.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
The whole thing is like, hey, listen, they can give
you an.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Excuse they want to to justify why they made said move.
But like you, I really enjoy the work that RG
three put in. He did a great job when the
Olympic trials. I didn't even know that he had that
range to talk about track and field in that way.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
But listen, it'll bounce back.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
I mean he bounced back from you know, things that
happened with him with the Washington football team, the land
A gig with Hispianzo.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
I think he'll be okay. Yeah, I think he will too.
It'd be fun to see where he goes next.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Next story three back to the Cincinnati Bengals. Running Back
Chris Evans was one of two Bengals carted off during
Thursday's joint practice with the Bears. Evans was diagnosed with
a torn but teller tendon in his knee.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Timeline for Evans' injury typically is nine months, so he's
going to miss the regular season. Evans was injured during.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
A kickoff return and short you there after, offensive lineman
Dante Smith went during a team drill. The Bengals listed
Evidence on the depth chart behind Zach Moass, Chase Brown,
Trayvon Williams like thirty four games one starts since the
Bengals drafted him the six round of twenty twenty one.
And how does this story affect anything around here? Well,
we've talked about samaj p Ryan being the odd man out.

(21:17):
Could Samaj p Roan be headed to Cincinnati as the
replacement for Chris Evans Cincinnata, Yeah, which is where he
came from.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
Well, I mean, we don't really know how that is
going to shake out, but I can easily see how
someone can start putting the pieces together, because I mean,
Joe Mixon is no longer there and Tomiji Pebean, I
mean he was excellent in his role with the Cincinnati Bengals,
which actually led to him being picked up by the
Denver Broncos. So push, come to shove, and we know

(21:48):
that running back rule, man, it is loaded.

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yes, So if the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (21:53):
Are looking at the situation said, well, we're heavy in
that area and the Bengals may need a guy like
to midp ron.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
It makes sense.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
So Cincinnati, what are you willing to give us for
a guy that you f were quite familiar with.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Why don't you sly us a little six round draft
pick action on over here. We'll take the three million
dollars in savings off the cap.

Speaker 2 (22:11):
We'll call it even. Oh it even Sam.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Next story four in a story that Nick sent me
that I was cackling over, and I shouldn't be cackling
over parts of it, but it certainly was funny on
its surface. A sixty eight year old cafeteria consultant from
Illinois has admitted to stealing one point five million dollars
in chicken wings to feed.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
A gambling habit.

Speaker 1 (22:34):
Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones wants to buy her a
literal get out of jail free card.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
Via people dot com, Jones.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
Has offered to pay for the stolen wings that we're
to secure the freedom of Vera Liddell. She delivered some
eleven thousand cases of chicken wings between July of twenty
twenty and February twenty twenty two. That Tarti Patrick O'Brien said,
she's just a little sweetheart that got a gambling problem.
She feels beyond terrible about all. This totally uncharacteristic of her.

(23:01):
It was the disease taking over. It would be too
late for Jones to supply a cure. Little has already
pleaded guilty and she's received a sentence of nine years
in prison. But the reporter and her attorneys have thirty
days from Augus Night's sentencingti file emotion of vacant or
guilty plea and request a payment of restitution instead. So
the clock is ticking, Attorney Gregory la Papa said, and

(23:22):
Chris Jones has to be there with the checkbooks, so
he's appairly serious about it. Remains to be seen with
his generosity will result in avoiding nearly a decade behind bars.
I know we hate the chiefs, but we have a
little compassion for Chris Jones helping somebody out after a
gambling addiction caused them to steal again one and a
half million dollars in chicken wings.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
All right, First of all, I know stealing is not
condoned and it is something that you're not supposed to do,
But come on.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Dog, nine years for some damn wings. It's a lot
of a million and a half. The helmet at fifty
cents a wing, that's the three ballion. Where are they? Hey?

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Man, I don't know where she put them, who she
gave them to, but just nine years for wings?

Speaker 2 (24:09):
I mean, I grew up in Miami and.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
I've seen people get off on lighter charges and we're
talking about, you know, narcotic.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Charges and nine years for wings.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
But big shout out to Chris Jones for wanting to
do this. My only question is you mentioned she got
into this situation because she had a gambling habit. If
he were to bail her out, does she somehow put
herself back in the mix again, Maybe not not this time,
Maybe not with wings, Maybe with something else she.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Could set herself up to life. Take a million and
a half from from Chris Jones.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Put it all on Red twenty two until.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Oh can't do that man. Come on, Ben, just want
to be trying to help people. Now put him back. Yeah, no,
she needs to get help.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
I hope she does get help, and I shouldn't be
joking about it. But at the same time, I, you know,
I was. I was looking at this and I was
just like, wow, that is the only thing I could
think when you sent me the story at the beginning
was just like, how many chicken wings?

Speaker 2 (25:03):
Is that? Where did you put that many chicken wing?
I don't And it once again, did she do this?

Speaker 3 (25:09):
Uh? More importantly around the Super Bowl because usually that's
where a lot of stores run out of wings?

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Was she selling to the stores she's selling into, like
Buffalo Wild Wings or something like?

Speaker 2 (25:17):
What was it? Where was this black going? Nick? I
don't know what they'd answer.

Speaker 3 (25:21):
I didn't even know what the black you know, chicken
wing market out there, but yet it must be.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
It must be. There's just somefar I wanted they pay.
Did they pay in Pitcot?

Speaker 3 (25:30):
I need to know? Maybe she paid off her debts possibly,
And that's what I'm saying, like maybe this I don't know.

Speaker 2 (25:36):
Next story five.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Preseason is typically the playground of the primary backup quarterback.
This year, the rams QB two didn't play in the
first exhibition game. Jimmy Garoppolo is not going to be
playing in the second one either. O Sean McVay told
reporters today, I think it's important to be able to
get Stetson Bennett those reps. Jimmy got a bunch of
work yesterday. I thought that was good for him. He
got even more than what we thought because Matt Stafford

(25:59):
only participate in the first couple periods, so he's played
a lot football though, and I think it's important for
Stetson to be able to get those reps. Garoppolo, of course,
is gonna be suspended for the first two games of
the regular season due to a violation of the ped policy.
RAMS are trying to figure out whether Stetson Bennett could
be entrusted with the number two job for games at
Detroit and at Arizona. After weak two, Garoppolo will be

(26:21):
the guy behind Matt Stafford. I don't know if you
watched that game, but Stetson Bennett, yea if not, looked good.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
He led the team in somewhat of a last second
two minute drive, getting outside the pocket and throwing the
ball aside on him so that's a plus, but it
did look too good for him, and I mean to
his point, man, there's some there were certain situations where
the wide receivers could have fought a little harder for him,

(26:51):
but his ball placement looked a little off. On a
couple of those passes, he was thrown a little behind
the wire receivers. I don't know if he was trying
to not put them in harm's way that's why he
did it, But it was a bad outing for him.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
I think we're all rooting for him after he just
walked away from football, spent some time in rehab, got
his life together and all.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
That kind of stuff, and you know, and coming back.
I think we're all rooting for him in that regard.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
But he came out there through four interceptions in that
game and like you said, was throwing ball behind receivers
and did not look prepared to play. I'm not sure
the Rams who Matt Stafford is a little dinged up,
that's some back tightness and get some knee issues. They're
going to need a backup that's ready to come in
on a moment's notice. And I'm not sure he's the guy. No,
he's I don't want to say he's.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Not the guy. I think with more playing time, every
guy gets better.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
But knowing as though you have Jimmy Garoppolo who's familiar
with the same scheme that Sean McVay is running, and
he doesn't want to put Jimmy out there right away because.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
I mean, he can't in the first two weeks because
he's suspended, right and Jimmy has been a little fragile himself.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
So give all the time to Stetson because if Sesson
doesn't improve over the next two preseason games, you can
move away from him. But at the same time, you
want to say that you gave him an opportunity to
really prove his My.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Nurse de Broncos are suddenly going to have a hot
commodity and one.

Speaker 2 (28:02):
Gently used Jared Stidham. Interesting food for thought.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
Next story six, Dennis Allen said Alvin Kamara's absence from
practice is not contract related as far as he knows.
Saints running back Alvin Kamara didn't practice Tuesday because of
back tightness that coach Dennis Allen said at the time
was not a big deal.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Two days later, Kamara still has not returned.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
That prompted a question to Alan about whether Kamara's absence
might be an old school holding with the running back
not practicing because of his contract dispute with the team.
As far as I know, zero related to his contract,
Alan said, via Luke Johnson of NOLA dot com, he's
got some back tightness.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
This is something he's dealt with before. Kamaras skipped the.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Final practice of the mandatory mediamp in June as a
way of showing his displeasure over his contract situation. Lamar
has been a regular participant at training camp up until Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (28:50):
As two years remaining on his deal.

Speaker 1 (28:51):
With his twenty twenty four salary cap hit up eighteen
point five million, which is the highest on the team.
He has no guaranteed money for twenty five and nine
million dollar cap hit that I think everybody knows is
not going to happen. They was paying twenty nine million
dollars for a running back and none of it's guaranteed.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Well, I'll say there's a new phrase for players who
feel as though they're not getting paid enough, and it's
called back tightness. And it's because I need my wallet
to be a little heavier to weigh me down, because
if it's not then it's causing absorbent pain to my back.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
I wonder if I can work in this industry. Like
if I tell Dave Tempera, I get some jaw tightness.
I just can't do the show today. How many find
somebody to replace it?

Speaker 2 (29:37):
Does?

Speaker 1 (29:37):
No?

Speaker 3 (29:37):
No?

Speaker 2 (29:37):
May you find somebody replaced me in five minutes. I've
been waiting for this moment, Ben, thank you?

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Yes, jaw tightness. Yeah, that's your NFL six pack. I
appreciate uh you guys sticking around with us today. You
want to be listening tomorrow, so it can't wait. Sport
show from three to six. They're giving away Broncos Packers tickets.
So if you want to get out to the pre
season game, I got your your hookup for that. You
want to be listening to that tomorrow. What is the

(30:05):
biggest thing we're looking for out of practice tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (30:07):
Nick? No fights? No fights?

Speaker 3 (30:11):
Yes, and and that's a that's a huge ask. Had
put the k on on the end of it. But yeah,
well we've seen in these joint practices they're always really competitive,
and the temperature is always rising and all it takes
one competitive incident to escalate the situation. And we've seen
around the league where you know guys have either got

(30:33):
injured or in draw Mayo's case, where he say, look,
he wants to start finding guys and playing guys more.
If you're a veteran in preseason and guys who are
in the bubble playing them less as a way of
alternate decision. That's thing that's really difficult to prevent fights
from happening. But you know, as a coach, you give

(30:53):
everyone that disclaimer.

Speaker 2 (30:54):
See, I'm here for the full troll mode.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
I think the DJ tomorrow should start off with Ludacris's
throw Them Bows, and I think you should just play fight,
play fighting songs like the rest of the day, just
just as a troll in the background. That that's this
is the kind of mind that that that you're sitting
across the table from right now.

Speaker 3 (31:09):
No one wants to be in the mind of one
Benjamin all right, because I don't want it.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
It's either quicksand or minefield. Choose your ports. It's kind
of both, it really is.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
That's a minefield of nobody wants that nobody was. I
don't want to live in beside my head. It's a
it's a gross place to be. I want to see
the offensive line get some push.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
I want to see it. You know, the offensive defensive
line is.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
Tough because in regular practices, you going up against your guys,
you don't want to hurt them.

Speaker 2 (31:37):
The interactions are at a reduced pace.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
This is the first time we're really going to get
to see some hop in action between an offensive and
defensive line. You know, I think outside of the preseason
game that we that we had and so I'm looking
forward to seeing if this offensive line is getting pushed.

Speaker 2 (31:53):
I don't want to see the defensive line getting pushed
as well.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Well for me, that's where the bulk of my focus
will be. I don't know one on ones with the dbs.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
And the wide receivers.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
It is looking at the one on ones between the
Packers front seven and the Broncos offensive line. Knowing as
though the Packers starters are not playing on Sunday, Tomorrow's
practice is their game day, so you're gonna get full
till intensity. This is why I say, ben mark my word,

(32:24):
even though each team has been spoken to tonight, here's
what we want.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
We want to clean competitive practice, right, It never.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
Really works out that way because someone is competing and
all it takes. All it takes is for one guy
to get their butt whipped and then with the crowd
out there going, oh, you've seen those rep hip hop battles. Yes,
tomorrow is gonna be just like that without the lyrics.
That's what it's gonna be without the lyrics.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
So it's just gonna be a beat or you just
got beat, right, that's what's to be. I'm looking forward
to it as always, appreciate you guys. Beat along for
the ride. Broncos Country Tonight Rules on after this say
