Speaker 1 (00:00):
If the Broncos country tonight, Western our tackle here open.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
To receive us.

Speaker 1 (00:09):
Let's go on the official home of the Broncos. All right,
all night KOA, Well, haven't been to.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
A Broncos country tonight. Benjamin Olibright, Dick Ferguson, the Hall
of Famer, Steve Atwater, Zack Segars back there producing give
it a mile high salute. Five six sixty nine zero
is the text line. You guys want to get involved
in the conversation. We're gonna have Ryan Michael seven oh
five Cup, first time back since uh he's had some
uh life stuff going on, but he's he's gonna be

(00:47):
back on. By the way, the Prague team ended up
having a giant blowout win to end the season there
with the European League football so congrectuates exciting.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
You have to celebrate that.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Yeah, uh Patrick Heyti gonna join us at eight oh five,
your chance talk to him about what he thinks about
the state of the Broncos and all that. I think
the big news right off the bat, obviously yesterday the
big trade of Devon Valet to the uh New Orleans
Saints getting a fourth and a seventh, and that fourth

(01:17):
rounder is probably going to be a top one hundred
pick when all sitting down. The Saints are going to
be bad this year.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Absolutely, And let me start off in hopefully he's in
his car right now.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Oh, he's on the elevator. I just saw him going down,
So you might need to wait a few moments. You
won't hear then, No, no, no, we need we don't
put up all.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
That, Steve, how you do we can give it word?
What's the word?

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I want him to hear this? Well, he doesn't have
a microphone to respond. What are you talking about? You
know who we're talking about right now? Awards Edwards Radio.
Oh boy celebrating the trade of Delia doing his victory.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Las Yeah, dvid Seger's over here?

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Does that?

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Look at Zach?

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Type it out?

Speaker 3 (01:55):
On? Wait about talking about Devon Male we locked in
a closet and never allowed to touch a football again? Was
that the tweet?

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I can't remember?

Speaker 5 (02:01):
Knows that they should trade him, And you know, some
people are saying it's impossible, but here I am saying
it's very Sometimes you know, you point that bat towards
the baseball crowd, you go.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
Hey, I'm hitting a home run on this one. And
then you crack it right into the stand.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
I say, broken clock is right twice a day.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
So there was that. I I look, I did not
think they were going to trade al a uh. And
Ryan and I we talked about it yesterday. Yeah, he
told me he was liked. You should have said, I've
never seen somebody peacocking is hard strutting around this studio.
When that news broke, Ryan nevers immediately, I didn't know

(02:39):
they made flannel it a terrible way. And what was
the thame of that guy.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
On the Simpsons who's like the Irish guy who always
rips off his shirt and he's like ripped right. Okay,
So that's how Ryan is portraying himself today, because when
the news broke, he could not wait to hit me
up on every social media account that I said that I.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Had texted you. Yes, I didn't even know Nick. Could
you have to confirm his fight? Ryan said, he faxed you.
Now you still have a fact. No, no, for the record,
I don't have a fax machine.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
But on every email, text message, social media he hit
me up like where are his flowers?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
It was weird that was so talk about it. Yeah,
though I looked out this window down toward Parker where
Ryan lives, and that's the smoke. Signals were coming out
from Parker wherever my flowers now I know where they originated.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Well, you know what I did? So I sent him
what is it? What is a giff or gift? Which
one is?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
It's a gift? We don't it's just Christmas gifts.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
What I did?

Speaker 4 (03:46):
I did send him a flower, but it was a
dead flower. That's what I said. Send him its flowers.
I did. It's dead flowers.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Did you think it was gonna happen? You didn't know.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Ryan caught a lot of flak for that on the
text line. Now I couldn't see it, but he was
reading it and fans were really upset, and I was
just like, well, I don't see it happening because it
is an arms race here in the AFC from a
conference standpoint, but also from a division standpoint. So I

(04:21):
didn't see the Broncos making this move. Even though Troy
Franklin looks so much better. Sirfield has been a difference.

Speaker 6 (04:27):
Yes, that's been I think that's the main reason why Sherfield.
Schirfield has stepped up and yeah exceeded. That's the expectations
all these people.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Are now like, oh, Pat, Brian, Troy Franklin fantasy football tracks.
I'm like, try Franklin doesn't play the same position that
demon Vella plays. First of all, Pat Bryant is a rookie.
And I promise you that if you're looking at the
fantasy football Evan Ingram is going to soak up those
targets and Sherfield's going to be on the field for
the blocking part of it plays too.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Entire camp.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
Yeah, and I said earlier this is got le play football.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
But here's the other guy that when Ryan and I
talked about and said, well, you have to factor him
into this decision is Courtney I think it was Courtney Jackson. Yeah,
I think from a return standpoint and a receiver slide
receiver standpoint, but.

Speaker 6 (05:15):
It's just too many receivers though now I mean how
many You don't keep saying it.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Well, okay, so Cordy Jackson would be a great candidate
for the practice squad. Now he would have the clear
waivers and all of that. But I said, I told Ryan,
this is a problem that you want. You want to
have too much depth. And the way you look at
it from from a scouting standpoint, they've scoured.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
All of these rosters. They didn't just look at their roster.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
They looked at other teams roster and say, well, what
positions can we get better even though we have current
guys on our roster, and then let's look at some
of our weaker positions. What teams are heavier in that
particular position? Groups that when they started making their cuts,
that's the team that we should go after.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
So that's the crazy thing about it.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
What do you feel like your division?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
Now?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
I think we're I think I don't think there's anywhere deficient.
I think we've got some questions. Yeah, I think we
got some questions, especially with the health and all that.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
That's the biggest thing to help the talent on.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Paper is there? The question is this is going to
hold up?

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Right?

Speaker 4 (06:16):
And that and that's kind of the bigger issue. Now,
let's just say we know PJ. Lock is one of
the back back up safeties. J. L. Skinner is one
of those guys, right, will he make the team? And
if there is another player on another team that can
give you the playmaking ability and fit into what Vans
Jopson wants to do. And they played great special teams.

(06:39):
Who's to say that the Broncos don't make moves there too,
because we have to remember, you're trying to get better
at every single position, right, there are going.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
To be some moves made. Like tomorrow, Mathis is not
going to be on this team. It will be tomorrow
Mathis will not be on this roster on Monday. I'm
just going to tell you to al spoil the surprise.
He will not be here on Monday.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
I don't think that that's kind of a arise because well,
tell me the reason why. Okay, first of all, here's
the thing that made it difficult for for for for Damari.
You already have Roley Moss. Then you add Ja Kwan.
Show he can play both inside and the outside. Remember
I got you got the interception in the preseason game.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Is nice?

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Right, and you go ahead draft Jade Baron in the
first round. Right there sealed it? That right, that sealed it.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Wow, You've got You've got Ja Kwan, You've got Jade,
You've got Jerry Ryan Moss, you've got Abrams trained, and
you got certain there's not a spot for him anymore,
especially because you're probably keeping one extra safety. Because we
talked about Sherfield making place. There's another special team roll
on the defensive side. It's making plays in Sam Franklin,
and you got Sam Franklin, got j L. I'm just saying,

(07:46):
like you got you. You need to keep five safeties
this year, and there's seven guys fighting for those for
those five spots.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
But here's what happens come draft time.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
And I had a ten year career in the NFL,
and it happened every plays that I've been even on
the teams where I was released, I was released for
offensive linemen. Teams are like, well, we need another offensive lineman,
so they always steal from the secondary.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
They always don't think you don't.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Have to do that anymore. Now that the practice squad
has expanded, you can put multiple offensive line on the
practice squad and then use your call ups before having
to bring them back up.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
You got to release them first. That's the thing. You
still got to release them.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
I don't I'm not sure anybody's coming out there putting
waiver claims in there for Calvin Throckmorton.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
No, no, no, I don't think the backboard but I
mean all but zero bit but team, most teams around
the league, they take away from the secondary. The secondary
is the place that they take away from because most
teams keep at least four or five corners, well.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Six in a lot of cases you want to keep
keep six. Mostly most of the time you keep four
safeties and six corners or some combination of ten defensive backs.
In this case, I think the Broncos could could have eleven.
You might have eleven dbs.

Speaker 6 (09:01):
You keep when you say you say you're saying five safety,
six safety, No, oh, okay no.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
Usually where I've played, it was five five corners for
safety Advance.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Dvance likes to keep them dbs though, like he does,
we go back and look at it at his history,
he likes to keep and he usually has a hybrid
safety that he uses as a diebacker. I get that.
I get that.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
But Advance may lose that battle because if he is
competing with Sean Payton.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
For someone that.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
Sean Payton keep thirty five guys on offense, you just
have to make yes and that, and that's one of
the things that happens.

Speaker 4 (09:36):
Like if you have an offensive coach, they're willing to
keep more offensive guys. Defensive coaches are looking to keep
more defensive guys.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
That just kind of part for the course.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
But for me, this is a great problem for the
Broncos that have tell me, the last time the Broncos
had an issue and their biggest issue was.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Too many good players. Yeah, the last time.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
It's been a while. It's been a wonderful problem to have.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
I mean, on the outside looking in, I love it
because I'm not getting cut. But if you put one
of those guys that are on the bubble, man, I
feel for those guys. I mean, in my experience, what
I've seen is the guys who end up making it
are one of the guys who make plays in the
preseason and two guys who are husting.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Their butts off in practice. Yes, because they.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Want it, Yes, And the coaches know that they want it,
and they know they want to be there by the
way that they're practicing in the way that they're leaving
out that you.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Got a position, coaches lobbying for their guy and all
that kind of stuff. As far as it goes, I mean,
let's circle us back to Vlea for now, though. And
you know what, when that trade went down, I think
we were all three of us were, so I was floored.
I would not believe that anybody was going to pony
up or more more draft capital than what it took
to get George Pickens or Davante Adams for the man vallet.

(10:50):
But if that happens, you gotta take it. So it
does matter it, you gotta take that.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
None of us believe it.

Speaker 4 (10:55):
And the reason I didn't believe it because last year
the bill of the ball in trading camp was the bomb.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Bayley was the bell.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Ball at O t this ship, yes, until he got hurt.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
Okay, So the first thing I wanted to do when
the news broke after Ryan started texting, tweeting me and doing.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
All this time, he was in here doing a Mick
Jagger dance.

Speaker 4 (11:13):
I was about to tweet this, but I did. I
was like, someone go check on Ben because I know
Vyle was Ben's guy. Ben was the biggest Vley fan.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Crying all night.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
I couldn't even walk cross street, man. I was just crying,
no Sean moreno sized tears rolling down my face, not.

Speaker 6 (11:35):
See that happening, even though what's five? Then they again
tris Refield, Trice Herfield, even though he's been balling, and
we listened to this fress team's coach a he's been.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
Doing a great job with all the young players.

Speaker 7 (11:48):
Plus we saw he's making plays the whole time doing
training camp, So I should have known, but I just
didn't think with the potential that Bayley has that they
would release him.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
But he has been inured and well a factor. They
were never going to release him. They were never gonna go.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
Thing.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, And I'm like, I didn't think. I didn't. Yeah,
I didn't either, because I'm like, there's no way anybody's
gonna pony up what it would take to pry this
guy loose. First came running up and we were like, hey,
we're already projected to finish in last have you seen
our quarterback situation. We'd like to throw these draft picks
at you anyway.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
See, I told Ryan when when we had that conversation.

Speaker 4 (12:26):
That there are a couple of teams that are in
destiny of wide receivers. And I brought up to San
Francisco forty nine ers who picked up sky Moore from
from Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Right.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
But I didn't see this coming because here was a
guy who had done everything that the team asked him everything,
and they were so in love with him that, yeah,
that that they let Tim Patrick go because Valor is
supposed to be the new model of Tim.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Tim Patrick was.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
On the field last year fight.

Speaker 4 (12:59):
So once again, here's the message should be for a
lot of players. If you if you're not PS two,
if you're not the bow Nicks, that anybody can get it.

Speaker 6 (13:09):
Let me ask this question, though, do you think that
if he had not had the injury history last year
and this year, that he would have been traded if he.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
Was on the field.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
I don't think.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
I don't think. I don't think the.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Injury part for me healthy or a couple of injuries,
because the injuries are part of the game. I don't
think that factored into the team trading. And just the
fact that you're starting to feel called.

Speaker 8 (13:33):
Because he wasn't on the field, And when he wasn't
on the field, guess what.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
Was And he was making plays for Bryant, Sherfield and Franklin.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Remember the whole concept that starter doesn't lose his job
to injury.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I don't think he lost his job and he is
a starter, He didn't lose his job to injury. I
think that when he was injured, the door got open,
and what happened is Sherfield, Bryant, and frankly that they're
making play. Coach says, I can, well, I can place
this production and the aggregate behind him, and that's the thing.
And I got. And they're offered me more than they
offered for George the Cowboys paid to get George Pickens.

(14:08):
They're offered me double what we got for Jerry Judy.
That means that anyone can get sniped. But they can.
I mean, well, everybody's got a price tag. I just
did not believe that anybody. I didn't believe anybody would
meet it.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
I didn't pay said today when he was talking about it,
that he was talking to George Payton and it was like, well,
Veyley embodies everything that we want.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
So so neither one of those guys could see it.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
They didn't want to. They didn't want to. They weren't
shopping him. They confirmed today they weren't shopping him or
any of that kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
They are calling.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
You had a couple of people start calling and they
offers got serious and they're like you know what, I hey,
and he's receiver. He's gonna he's gonna have a nice career.
I think he's I think he's gonna have like a
hundred hundred targets down there. Now, we're all gonna be
a target because you got Rattler and Shuck throwing him
the ball and or throwing the ball in his general
direction as they do. You know, also the targets in
forty catches this year.

Speaker 4 (15:01):
But one thing that helps be laid down in the world.
I don't think they're going to be that great defensively.
They can't stop the run and everybody's trying to figure
out the quarterback situation. So the numbers are going to
be high for him if you're looking for a fantasy sleeper.
But with Chris alive, you know he's been with his concussion, right, so.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
He all he got is Rashie said and did a
little bit of Brandon. What's left in the tank of
Brandon Cooks at this point? I mean, Devon Malay is
going to be the you know, to be the guy.

Speaker 6 (15:30):
And I'm sure for Brandon Cooks, man, he's done what
years is this he's a few maybe he started here,
maybe thirteen, was drafted.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
He's thirty one years old, so he's been in the
league since twenty fourteen, so that would be eleven years.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
I'm sure when coach Pain said he talked to GM
Saints GM Mickey Luhman's about this trade. I'm sure the
conversation came up. Okay, well, who would you say in
our previous offense, Davon bay Lay reminds you of Michael
Thompson's Thomas his name probably came out, and uh.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
Colston, Yeah, he's gonna be the ex receiver because what
you have is Cooks as the Z and you'll have uh,
your Shaheed is the slot guy. And then when a
Lave works himself back, you know, he'll then then you'd
have La being the backup X and the tip of
the spear of the bunch and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
But here's the one part that kind of sticks in
your crawl if you're a fan or a coach. And
and like you said, this is not a move that
they wanted to make that they thought to do because
they were shopping him.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
They just kept fielding so many calls.

Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yeah, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta look at him.
I mean, you wouldn't ignore that. I mean, you're building
a team for the future and you're in a position
that you're stacked at.

Speaker 4 (16:46):
But here's the thing too, you know, how figure fans
are if Ballet goes down and his twenty twenty five
season is off the charge, regardless of whatever justification.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Internet owes me an apology at that point, Kenne, nobody
tell me, yeah, he goes for a thousand yards and
ten touchdowns. I'm not wearing pants to work for a month,
you know what. I don't want to work with you then,
because I don't want to see that I'm being told
from our boss, Dave Tempers that I wanted to back
to be wearing pants to work.

Speaker 4 (17:16):
Hey, you know we're gonna need to We're gonna need
to put a partition between you and I because.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
A badcast from the house I'll set a microphone up
can't come in today.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yeah, then is broadcasting from remotely?

Speaker 3 (17:26):
I'll call it out naked.

Speaker 4 (17:28):
Yes, so let me go ahead and say this, because
he should be in his car.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
If he's not, then too bad. So sad.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
But Ryan Evers, you know, pull over on the side
of the road so you can take take your hand
and patch yourself on the back.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Meet Nick over here at microphone two.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Yes, so, uh yeah, you called this out when I
was on a sports zoo and we didn't know if
it was gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
But it happened. So there it is.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
Yeah, Ryan, I mean, I've never seen somebody strut that
hard like it put Mick Jagger's little Peacock walk to shame.
Imo was like, this man, this man might be front
of the stock Ones right now. I didn't know Flannel
came in a tear away and where he got that
tuxedo that was underneath it, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
I'll tell you this.

Speaker 4 (18:06):
You're right, you know the strutting that Ryan was doing
around the studio. I'm afraid of what would happen if
the Rockies made it to the playoffs, let alone won
a pinnant. What would happen with one Ryan Edwards? You
would not be able to contain him. He'd be out
of control. Yeah, we can't let him have more wins

(18:28):
like this.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
No he can't.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
We can't.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
We can't let him do this his victory. Yeah, I
can't let the show George. Yeah, they over hear microphone
one feels we can't let Ryan get away. Can't keep
letting get away with this.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
No more wins for Ryan, no.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
More speaking of the boss. So you heard my he
heard my screen about pants and now here there you
see see how this is. By the way, guys, real quick,
just want to let you know Greg Dulci st thee
former Bronco out there looking a little like Jeremy Shocky
in the Giants uniform with the hair flowing, scoring a
touchdown on the opening drive there from Jackson dart here
in pre season actually gainst Patriots. Okay, seven yard touchdown.

(19:03):
I'm informed by our research team sax seekers back there.

Speaker 6 (19:06):
He had an injury thing going on here too, might
have found the right place to resurrect it.

Speaker 4 (19:11):
I always thought Greg Dosage was a good wide receiver,
so good for you hopefully. Still he's like Evan Ingram. Still, No,
he's got a blocker.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
Come on, No, no he's not.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
He's got a block a little bit.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
No, they don't send his shop. Didn't really block. He
just got blocked, got in the way.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
Greg Dulsich couldn't even block me on Twitter.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
It's cold blooded, old blood.

Speaker 3 (19:41):
We got to hit a break brokers country night. Back
up for this Hall of Fame beard Zach Segers back there.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Yeah, good he should. He's been growing. I look at
him going.

Speaker 3 (19:59):
You got too much yeah, baby face stuff going on?
So you started growing a beard out, try to look
a little bit older. I know how you feel young.
He's so young he's going to it's change things. It
makes me feel ancient.

Speaker 4 (20:11):
Everyone trying to do that. I can't Zach growing a beard.
I mean, he's probably growing it to make him look older.
But I guess since I've seen him before you had
the beard, it's just the same young face.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
I do.

Speaker 5 (20:30):
But it's been effective. People don't think I'm you know,
twenty one and anymore.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
They're thinking, so.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
Now you're not getting card in the places where Bandy
was complimenting me on it is that the thing.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
Now, places that you would normally go and get carded,
they're not carding you anymore.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
I'm so used to pulling my card out.

Speaker 5 (20:47):
But I I haven't gotten carted as much since I
got the beard.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Was carted again. I don't card me anymore.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
You know, you're a.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
Look at that funny.

Speaker 2 (21:06):
We don't do it.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
We only we only try to. I d for people
to look sixty and younger. Sure, but I've had a
baby face model, so I get I get that. My
problem is is that I cannot grow facial hair at
that level. So you know, what.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
I'm glad that we got you.

Speaker 4 (21:22):
Guys got you on Sea because it was a conversation
that has taken place over the first two preseason games,
and it's it's all been based around the performance of
one Jaredstina and it's a bizarre conversation. I can't believe
that bizarre. Okay, I toss it out because it was, well, well,

(21:43):
the Broncos have a quarterback controversy, should the Broncos at
any quarterback controversy?

Speaker 2 (21:51):
I'm just telling you. I'm just telling you. I sent
you something.

Speaker 4 (21:55):
But then I said to something ben right where where
the conversation was being had no contra verse. I know
it's not, but I'm just saying just what it was
entertaining purposes. It was just like, well, if both Knicks
starts to falter down at some point during the season,
insert Jared did him, and then bow Nick's time here
as the Denver Bronc is over.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
I was like, that's crazy. Who started this?

Speaker 4 (22:18):
I can't tell you, like most conversations, who started it,
but I know that it's one of the most ridiculous
things that.

Speaker 3 (22:26):
I've heard in years. There is no controversy, They're not
trading Jared's to them. They love him in the room.
They know they need a good quality backup just in
case something happens to both. Both fractured his back last year,
by the way, in case something happens to both, they
need it. They need the spark there to you know,
to do it, do it. And good for him. He's
had a good preseason.

Speaker 6 (22:43):
He has looked extremely well this preseason, and I'm happy
for him. I'm happy for the team because you always
got to have a good backup quarterback regardless of, uh,
you know what situation you're because you just never know.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Even if you're up in a game, you.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
Want your back up quarterback to come in there and
ball out. So you know, hey, okay, he's still ready.

Speaker 3 (23:01):
You still got it. I Yeah, there's no controversy here.
Bo Nicks is the guy until he's not the guy.
Like basically Bo would have to play himself out of
a job.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Yeah. So with that being said, what do you think
about the Arizona game and the play calling of Davi's Web.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
You got to call that game.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Yeah, you get guys that are trying to show off
in those situations. Sean gives guys the opposite. Sean doesn't
call pays in the preseason like we saw last year.
Remember that preseason Colts game where Bo was slinging it
all over the yard and everything, and that was Joe
Lobardi because the game planned it, you know, and the
cults were like, yeah, we're just treating this like a practice.

Speaker 4 (23:36):
But what does that say about the development and evolution
of Davis Webb.

Speaker 3 (23:42):
Well, I think it's a good thing to do. I
think it's a good thing to have your assistants doing
that kind of stuff, prepare them for those moments so
that they are prepared for those moments. Good experience. I
thought it was called a good game. I mean, the
Cardinals were not treating that game serious at all. They
were they were sitting like most of the game, they
sat a too high shell and did nothing. You know,
they weren't treating that game as he is. Uh, that's
said good for Davis Webb, you know, good, good for

(24:04):
him to get that experience.

Speaker 4 (24:05):
Okay, So since you said that the Cardinals were sitting
in three.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
D two D and it made it easier.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
To expose a lot of passes in the zone, does
that somehow take away from what we saw from Stidham
or the play calling from Davis Webb.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
I don't think so. I think they both checked boxes.

Speaker 4 (24:25):
You know.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
I think Stidham comes out there and did what was
asked of him. I don't take anything away from him.
I just think it's you know, he went out there
was asking him. I'm also not putting brownie points on there.
I'm not like, oh, he's bawling out like. He went
out there and do what we're supposed to do.

Speaker 9 (24:36):
Man, that is what what people did we in the
preseason last year, what they called game and then you
saw what happened the first quarter of the season, like
when people game plan, I'm like, oh, yeah, this guy
still needs a little time, a little.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Seasoning, and then you know we got to beak four,
five and six. You started putting together. Yeah, that's not
I no, no, that's not nor what happens for a
rookie quarterback. Now, Jared obviously is.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Is event he's been in a situation is it's our career.

Speaker 4 (24:59):
Yeah, And I'm not saying that to take anything away
from what.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Jared has been able to do this preseason.

Speaker 4 (25:09):
It's what I expected from him because you are in
this offense for your second year and you've been in
this position as a veteran quarterback, I expect.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
For you to excel.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
Yeah, I mean we kind of expected, but sometimes many
times that doesn't happen. And we see the same thing
that we saw last year from a lot of players.
And so it looks like he's playing better, Like he
has a better grasp of the offense.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
You know, he's more accurate.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
You know, he needs look really well this preseason now, yeah,
or real bullets lying, No, did the game plan? No,
we understand all that. But that being said, he still
went out. Because you can have all that and the
guy still not play well. You can have a guy
the team's not not not a game plan and guys

(25:58):
go out there and stinking up.

Speaker 4 (26:00):
Listen, I'm happy because that means that the Broncos have
a solid backup one two combination.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
But my thing is for.

Speaker 4 (26:08):
Those individuals who were both locally and nationally raving about this,
I'm like, pump you breaks. We're not giving him a
gold jacket, Yeah right, we're not the preseason Hall of Fame.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Yeah. I don't know about preseason hall of Fame.

Speaker 4 (26:20):
But if you want to give him credit for making
the right reads, you know, stepping up in the pocket, moving,
finding the right receiver ball placement, yes, yes, and yes
yeah those.

Speaker 3 (26:30):
Ball checking the boxes. I'm saying we're confident in our
backup quarterbacks ability to be able to fill in and
or spots start if needed. But question though, do you
feel more comfortable this year than you did last year?

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (26:41):
With with well, I feel more comfortable with Bow. There
were times just did them. Oh, I already felt like
he was a spot star guy. Last year.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
I felt that he was a spots start guy. But
I feel more confident because yeah, I would say yes,
and we were told that he was a spark and
he went in.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Oh yeah, the all sparks we had back when they
when they pulled Russ for the injury guarantees and all that.
Although he's a spark for the offense, and I'm like, man,
it looks like a damp spark to me.

Speaker 4 (27:15):
So he looks much better now than he did in
that time.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
And you can just.

Speaker 6 (27:22):
Imagine how with time Sean Payton's put more and more
in in this oppice. They've given the guys more to
work with because they've been in assistant for a while,
they can they can.

Speaker 3 (27:33):
Take more now.

Speaker 6 (27:34):
So with more options then they got could probably focus
on plays that fit them to So also, these two
quarterbacks Bow Insteadham are different from the typical quarterbacks that
Sean Payton is used to coaching.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
And the reason I say that because if you go
back to all the places that he's coached, he's never
had court yat at the quarterback position.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
With this type of mobility.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
And sometimes it's hard to get those quarterbacks to stay
in the pocket. If you want them to stay in
the pocket, go through the progression.

Speaker 2 (28:10):
Find this read.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
But for me, defensively, I said, when things start breaking down,
you went through your progressions one, two.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Three, it's not there. You gotta go because you got
to stay ahead of the chance of change.

Speaker 4 (28:20):
And that doesn't necessarily mean that you pull it and
you're running vertically. You can run horizontally to the line
of scrimmage. Yes, And I told both this and trendy Cam.
I had a chance to talk to him real quickly,
introduce myself. I say, dude, you're one of the better
quarterbacks in the league throwing on the run right, and
that's one of the toughest toughest things to do to

(28:43):
throw to run to your right and launch a ball
down the field forty yards with Actreacy. I told him,
I said, dude, when you drew those two passes to
Marvin Mahams in the Cincinnati game, I've been and I
watched the game together.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
I almost ran up out of.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
The Yeah yeah at the Paul about the club were dude, yeah, yeah,
it was uh yeah. And that's that's the thing.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
I think.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
I think overall East there is there has been a
maturation to both. I think Sean has putting more on
each one's plate, and I think that's a good thing.
As you as you continue to grow and there's more
and more you can do.

Speaker 4 (29:18):
That's the way that it should take place, because every
year you should get better. There should be some evolution
into your game, because if you stayed the same as
the previous year, you're allowing the guys to come in
to take your job. And obviously I knew that no
one was gonna take both jobs, even Sean's guy from
day one, So he's gonna be here. The only thing

(29:40):
that he has approved to himself is that star comparing
himself to other quarterbacks in the league and wanting to
get better at that position.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
Yeah, I think he will.

Speaker 6 (29:50):
I mean, he's the kind of guy that you know,
comes in and works, you know, comes in early stage late.
You know, he please put in the work here, man,
And it's showing on the field, is showing in his
you know, understanding of the offense. He's not out there making
mental errors, you know, And that's a good thing. It's
just it's definitely a good thing. I Look, I told
the man, I say, look, I like your game.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
I watched you in at Oregon and I thought you
did a hell of a job. I was so excited
when the Broncos selected you. And I'm like, once again
giving him my advice from a defensive standpoint, make those
throws outside the pocket because that puts so much pressure
on the defense. And the receivers were running down the
field like when you first find look for them in

(30:33):
the passing progression. They may not be open, but then
you can find them once you get outside the pocket.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
What did you.

Speaker 6 (30:39):
Hate more as a defensive back when you're just say
you dropping back, dropping back?

Speaker 8 (30:45):
Question?

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Let's let's hold that question producing. Steve was about to
ask Nick a question before we had to cut you traffic.
M Do you remember what that question was? That was
a long time ago. I don't know if you guys
saw the Steelers defensive tackle Ron Harmon, their first round

(31:06):
draft pick, was carted off. Uh he had a knee injury.
Because I think it was knee injury. He was carted
off the field there. Looks see. He's definitely off for
the rest of the game and potentially out for a while.
It's a big time injuries. The Steelers take on the
Carolina Panthers in preseason action.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
That's the one thing about the preseason. You can't wrap
your players in bubble rap as coaches would like to.
You know, the way to get better at football, you
have to play football, and sometimes injuries happen.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
Yeah, but you don't want it to happen in the
final preseason game. You don't want You never wanted to happen, obviously,
But the last pre season game, Bro, I'm like, no, no.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
No, I'm I mean it this far to Oh yeah, Bro,
I'm not I'm not playing my players, that's me.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
So you wouldn't play any of your stars like in
the game Saturday against the Saints.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
I'm gonna play well, Coach Fain said, this thought is
charge compliant play.

Speaker 4 (32:00):
He's in eight plays, but I think if they're not
looking sharp, they may play a little deeper.

Speaker 3 (32:05):
Yeah, they have some data. They think that playing them
in the first and third preseason game for the starters
and then they feel like that is more injury preventative.
They got some data on that. I think. I don't
know anything about that. What I will say is that
we've had pretty good injury LU the last couple years,
So maybe that theory's working. Keep it going, keep going.

Speaker 6 (32:23):
I do remember the question, Okay, all right, as a safety, okay,
we were talking about.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
You know, just them and you know and bowd Nicks
and them running in that.

Speaker 6 (32:33):
As a safety, just say, you're dropping back into the
middle of the field. Covers you got, you got deep
deep posts. Okay, okay, what did you hate to see more?
Did you hate to see the quarterback take off.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Running with the ball or did you or did you
hate to see.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Him scramble out and then pass it? Man? Hell with
that quarterback?

Speaker 4 (32:55):
No, it's it's those running backs that that are running
free untouched, right, that's because.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
They received him at this point though.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Well no, I'm talking well, I'm talking running back receivers.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
No, don't don't really care about him because I'll make
a routine tackle the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
He's breaking out in the backfield.

Speaker 4 (33:13):
Someone's gonna make that tackle before he gets to me, hopefully.

Speaker 2 (33:16):
But it was those running backs running down the.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
Field like you and cover two and you get Jerome
Bettis outside in that corner saying, well, my.

Speaker 8 (33:26):
Job, it's a whole No, Nick, I'm talking about a
pass play.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
A pass play.

Speaker 8 (33:30):
On a pass play, you see the quarterback drop back.
Do you hate you hate to see him take off
running or do.

Speaker 6 (33:39):
You hate to see him pass the ball from from
just say him rolling out?

Speaker 2 (33:43):
See for me, Michael Vick, you don't want to see
him running.

Speaker 3 (33:46):
The ball that he's not gonna throw.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
But but there were not too many quarterbacks during my
time that excelled at getting outside the pocket and became
a threat. But how you phrased the question, I would
have been dead in the water because you phrased that like,
if I saw him, if I'm watching the quarterback receivers
already passed me, I'm already done.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
I'm already done.

Speaker 3 (34:14):
You've been in that play action different I would I
would rather get outside and make the play because I
want your eyes on me, because at that point then
you're squaring up, putting your eyes on the end. I'm
gonna get something.

Speaker 4 (34:25):
You go to.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
The middle of the field. You got You're good.

Speaker 8 (34:28):
You gotta go get a quarterback and eventually to know
if he's running the ball.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
I'm not concerned with him.

Speaker 6 (34:34):
He's not my contin't gonna be a while for you.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
But I hate that though.

Speaker 3 (34:37):
I hate seeing that corner, like, oh, we don't have
nobody up there. Nobody's fifteen twenty yards was it?

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Because at that point I know by the time I
get to him, he's gonna slide.

Speaker 8 (34:48):
Yeah, but you don't necessarily a big tackle. It's the
first down though, nothing I'm gonna come at that point.
Now I'm getting pissed, That's what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Now, get some capital and this's me.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
I saw you saw Sam Darnold. You know when he
took off at one time against that Oh my god,
I put put Justin in a blender.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
Was game?

Speaker 3 (35:10):
Yeah, that was a Thursday night game when he put
you I think it's Thursday Monday, I can't remember, but
he put he put Justin Simmons in the blender on
the on the knee fake or whatever. The whole house
A guy.

Speaker 4 (35:19):
My god, he's got on on Don's athleticism. They don't
think sneaky fast, well guy, right, just I'm just saying, guy,
when you think about Troy aigmanker type, most people about Troy,

(35:39):
they don't look at Troy Aigman as a running quarterback.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
But he used to be a guy college.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Yes, so people don't look at Darna in that way.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
But he can run sneaky fast ro Wes Welker type,
real Julia that I'm not saying, Yeah, white guy, he's white.
We got him, we got him. Break Steve's great series always.
I'll probably just catch your night back after this
