Speaker 1 (00:00):
For the Mac of our Hearts Rick Lewis, color analysts
of your Denver Broncos Radio network, Rick, how are you,
my friend hey man?
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good to be on with you, Grant and of course Nick,
return of the Mac. Yeah, that was us going to
the super Dome over the weekend. We got a chance
to actually walk on the field. For some reason, that
was the only way to get to the press box.
We walked the entire link to the field, so I
got a really good feel.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
For what it's like to be down there as a player.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Man, it's you could feel the power man in the
history in that building.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
But I have a what the funk for you?
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Regarding the building and Grant, I think you and you
and Zach were running the board for the game where
it's you Saturday?
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Oh we sure? Word?
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Do you want to hear what happened on Saturday before
you give the story?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
You want the background? Okay, yeah, go ahead, Yeah, I
want to see how bad this hapends.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Okay, this is during countdown to kickoff, and I think
it's a little self explanatory, but if not, your color
analyst Drick Lewis will explain exactly what was happening afterwards.
At Caesar Superdome on Saturday. Let's head out to Caesar
Superdome in New Orleans and check in with Color analyst
Rick Lewis.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Rick, my friend, always great, catch up with do you
final preseason game? My friend? Let's go? Hey, Ryan, how
you doing. I'm fantastic. I'm fantastic.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
I'm sorry.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
We're having a laughing fit here in the booth. I'm
trying to get the chairs situation fixed. I can't even
see the field. I look like a kid at the
Thanksgiving kids table.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Hi, when are you guys eating? Sorry? Sorry for interrupting
on your side from me like one of the little people.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
Rick's chin is closer to what he's right that he's billy.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
But I could literally put my kin on the condo
because I just got to text for management.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
You guys have ways much fun.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Okay, sorry, some serious football now?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Okay, okay, what the funk was going on?
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Rick Lewis?
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Oh man that that was hilarious to hear the playback
of it.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Yeah, So what what was going on there?
Speaker 6 (02:22):
Is?
Speaker 2 (02:22):
The chairs in the press box at this fifty year
old stadium are like kid size, and apparently they did
a remodel recently where they raised the counters up, but
they didn't put in.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Different chairs, so we we couldn't see the field.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Sitting in these chairs, we could not see over the
counter to see the field.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
And what happened there.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Was Dave and I were just looking at each other
laughing hysterically. You know how you have one of those
laughing fits where you can't stop. Oh yeah, and then
all of a sudden, Hey, what's up? Rick Lewis and
supernome like I could barely talk and you could hear
Dave in the background. Dave had ears streaming.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Down, nothing like an organic Dave logan last.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
Oh man, it's it was great to laugh like that.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
We talked to the New Orleans Saints broadcasters next right
next to us in the booth next to us, and
they said, yeah, we had to buy our own chairs
to leave here in the booth, and because we asked
if we could borrow, because they obviously had higher chairs
than we had, and so we ended up sitting on
a stack, actually two big packets, two stacks of printer
(03:31):
paper for three and a half hours. Both of us,
by the end of the game were wrecked. A butt's hurt,
a bat's hurt. Our next hurt. But it was a
great laugh and something I'll never forget. Man, things happen
on the road all the time that are really funny,
and half of them we can't even talk about because
(03:53):
they're you know, kind of off the record and maybe
not radio friendly.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
But here's another one story, guy away, Yeah, here's one.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
And I can talk about this because Susie Wartson was
on my show this morning and she brought it up.
So Susie realized once she got back to her room
Friday night, she didn't pack any underwear and so, oh.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
Boy, I don't even know if I want to hear
this particularly.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Well, this is this is interesting because this came up
on the KOA Sports show.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yes, when you guys were all doing it together.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Yes, And I threw that question out to the to
Dave and Susie. I said, Hey, what if we're on
a road trip and you realize you forgot your underwear?
Would you borrow some underwear from somebody else? And I
came right out, and Dave came right out and said, hell, no,
I'm not gonna wear Dave's underwear. Dave's not gonna wear mine.
And Susie said, well, I'd probably borrow romy beans, and
(04:51):
I hear Romy's on the show later. You might want
to bring this up. So this actually happened. Susie had
no underwear for the game on Saturday, and instead of
going commando, she washed her underwear in the sink and
had him dry overnight and then warm twice. Basically, so
(05:14):
the whole time we're calling the game. That's another thing.
We were kind of snickering about Squozie wandering the sideline
in dirty underwear and dirty drawers, in her dirty drawers. Yeah,
so there was a there were some really fun moments
over the weekend, for sure.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
Well it's you know what, it's safe to say that
you guys have a lot of fun on these road games,
and the Broncos were trying to make sure that they
came away, you know, heading into the open against Italians
with some fun. But I have to ask you, when
you we heard the story about maybe the Broncos starters
were only going to play eight to nine to ten
(05:53):
plays but they ended up playing more drives than that?
Was that something when you get you and Dave saw
that that was shocking and surprising to you.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Well, it wasn't shocking because I think we both assumed
they want to see the offense do something, and they
wanted to see them score some points. And that's when
they finally pulled them when they did. And you know,
so I'm not surprised about that. What I'm a little
surprised about, though, is it just seems like this offense
(06:24):
is still a work in progress. You know, the starters
have not very consistent. They can't seem to get a
running game going, at least through preseason here. And it's
not like, you know, they're pulling out all the stops
and opening the playbook. We all know that, but you
would like to at least see them be able to
run the ball a bit and have the first team
(06:47):
play a series or two, you know, score ten points
and get out of the game. But that's why they
left them in, and I'm sure you guys realized that
as well. And then once again, the backups come in
and they just they dominate. And it turns out after
three preseason games, the Broncos had the number one offense
and number one defense in the National Football League. Now,
(07:10):
how does that kind of translate into the regular season. Well,
I think all you could assume from that in My
opinion is that you can assume that this is a
really deep roster because basically what happened in those three
games is the two threes and fours kicked ass on
the other backups.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
That the teams that they played.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
So it's a good thing, but I think we all
want to be a more explosive offense once we kick
off the season Week.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
One, Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Talking with Broncos color analyst Rick Lewis on Broncos Country tonight,
and you mentioned the depth of this roster, and obviously
tomorrow the final cut down to the initial fifty three
man roster. So far, thirteen cuts from the Denver Broncos
Andrew Farmer, Joking Davis, Micah Abraham, Josh will pick At,
Clay Webb, Xavier Trust, Michael Dwamfour, Garrett Nelson, Jerwan Newton,
(08:06):
d Maari Mathis, Kyriees Rowan, and two of those running
backs Adric Estima and of course Blake Watson who got
injured on Saturday. Have any of these cuts been surprising
to you so far? Or were these kind of expected
names to be cut off the roster before we get
down to fifty three.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I think they were expected. I didn't think oudric Es
Tom would make the cuts. I thought Blake Watson had
a shot at the practice squad. So no, both of
those guys getting cut, and they may bring them back
to the practice squad, we don't know. I thought all
along that Tyler Bidet would make this team. To me,
(08:45):
he's the number three running back because he can do
a few more things that Julie can't do, including pass pro,
and we saw that in the game again Saturday. Tyler
Bidet On I think back to back plays even really
good in pass pro. You know, he picked up a
blitz like a total pro and another one he got
(09:09):
pushed back a few yards but then stood his ground
and didn't let the guy get to the quarterback. So
he can do that way better than Juliel. I'm not
sure about R. J. Harvey at pass pro. I don't
think we've seen him enough to know if he can
do it. We know JK.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Dobbins can so. To me, Tyler.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
Badet was not a surprise at all in that wide
receiver room, and I think he does so many things well.
And you know you hear Sean Payton talk about him
all the time too. He's always praising Tyler Badet, and
you know he likes him a lot. So so far,
no surprises. I was a little, I guess, maybe a
(09:50):
little surprised about Joaquin Davis. I thought he was a
long shot to make the final fifty three, and you
never know, it could still happen. But that's a guy
that I think other teams, teams will take a look at.
I think other teams will also take a close look
at s Tome, fifth round draft pick, still young, He's
only twenty one years old, had a great career.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
At Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
So somebody's going to pick up Adric Estime and give
him a fresh start.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Rick, I want to go back up for a second
and talk about one of the things that was a
huge subject this past season and especially this offseason. It
was about the Broncos run game. Obviously, you draft RJ. Harvey, JK.
Dobbins and all of her last season, and even when
I was standing on the sideline during training camp was
(10:38):
okay the run game. The run game, and more importantly
that it was the running backs to Broncos had last.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
Season that may running the ball difficult.
Speaker 4 (10:49):
So with that being said, and there was supposed to
be this concert of effort. And I get it, it's
a preseason or whatever, but why wasn't that we in
euro opinion? Oh enough push up front? Because this is
a group, this is a veteran group, the Hoighy pay
and we didn't really see them certain their dominance in
(11:11):
the run game. Why do you think that's the case. Yeah, Nick,
you're right. This team I think we all thought was
built to run the ball. They invested a lot of
money in the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Last year. We didn't think they had the right running backs.
This year, I think they do.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
I know JK. Dobbins is a proven NFL running back. RJ.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
Harvey looks like he has star potential. So I do
think they'll be able to run the ball. I just
you just have to focus on running the ball and
you have to stick with it, which is one thing
we haven't seen Sean Payton do in his first two
years with the Broncos. You know, if the run game's
not working, he gets away from it pretty quick. And
(11:55):
last year it worked out with a rookie quarterback in
hardly any run game, you know, because bow Nicks developed
way faster than anybody thought he would. So I don't know, man,
I still expect that they're going to be able to
run the ball. That's why you got JK. Dobbins, That's
why you drafted RJ. Harvey in the second round. So
I'm still thinking that's going to happen this year, last
(12:18):
couple of years.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
It will be good.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
That's still the question mark. And will Sean Payton stick
with it, that's another question mark.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
Yeah, I guess we'll have to wait and see in
a couple of weeks if they get off to a
slow start running the ball against the Tennessee Titans.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Rick.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Before we let you go, do you have any shows
with the band coming up? Or as the summer concert
tour come to a halt With Bronco season approaching shortly.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Yeah, it pretty much comes to a halt, although I
do have two great shows coming up. September fifth, that's
Friday broncos Opening weekend at the Buffalo Rose with the
Freddie Jones Band. And then September twenty seventh, that's a
Friday at the Famous Little Bear in Evergreen. So as
of right now, that's the final two shows of the year.
(13:03):
Those are both ticketed shows. I hope people will come
out and support the band and thanks for letting me mention that.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Of course, man, it's always a great time at a
Rick Lewis project show. Rick, we enjoy your time as always,
and we'll chat with you next week.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yeah, don't forget to say how to romy Bean for
me and relay that story.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Susie underwear story will be brought up numerous times.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
Thanks Rick, I love you guys. Thanks, love you too.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Man, we're talking about the Broncos running game. There, give
me before we go to break here sixty seconds on
what you want to see from the Broncos running game
in this regular season.
Speaker 4 (13:40):
Stay committed to the run. Stay committed to the run.
Stay committed to the run. How about that?
Speaker 3 (13:46):
I only needed ten seconds for that. Hey, let's listen.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
I'm i from the old school of thinking, and this
is probably because of my time around Gary Kubiak, Mike Shenahan,
and Kyle Shanahan. Those coaches use the run game to
set up the passing game.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
And in today's game.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
We see it in high school, collegiate and a lot
of the pros. A lot of quarterbacks are sitting in
the shotgun. Me defensively, what that says to me is,
though you're not running the ball, or if you do
give the ball to your running back, there's only so
many things that you can do.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
You can run RPO laid handoff, or you can run
screen passes.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
So if I'm facing a team that is constantly in
the shotgun, I'm telling my oles side pass rushers, hey man,
just get upfield. If they run the ball on it,
we're just handling and change it with our calls. And
it's far too many times we're seeing the Broncos in
shotgun now. In the game against the Saints, they got
into you know, put Boat in this in the situation
(14:51):
where he was under center. But a lot of those
quarterbacks coming into the to the NFL, they're so used
to shotgun, so there's a different type of footwork you
got to go through playing from under center. But I
think when you play for under center a large period
of time, it puts the defense and.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
The conundrum they we have no idea it's fifty percent pass,
fifty percent run. If you're in the shotgun of the pistol, we're.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Thinking it's eighty percent pass. So these are things that
I think the Broncos need to do. And if you're
going to run the ball, run it and if you're
offensive lineman, you should get pissed any time that Sean
Payton calls a pass because you running the ball is
an opportunity to figuraly speaking right, not not realistically, but
(15:38):
figurally speaking, give you an opportween to push.
Speaker 3 (15:40):
The defender in the mount and move.
Speaker 4 (15:43):
I mean, there's nothing more I guess validating than being
able to move another.
Speaker 7 (15:50):
Man off his spot, right dominating, Yeah, and off to
run block.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
And that was the staple of the Broncos offense when
Alex Gibbs was here and Mike Shanahan was here.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
Well, a staple of our show is the one and
only aforementioned romy Bean. We're going to talk to her
next on Broncos Country at Night on KOA eight fifty
am ninety four to one FM, alongside Nick Ferguson and
Studio Zach Seegers behind the glass thanks to Steve Atwater
and Rick Lewis joining us earlier, and we are going
(16:25):
to keep going with these amazing guests, with the one
and only romy Bean from CBS Colorado. Romy how are
you this evening?
Speaker 6 (16:34):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (16:34):
You know what, guys, I'm better now that I'm talking
to you.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Well, I have a request from Rick Lewis, and I'm
glad you're doing good this evening. Don't want to dismiss that,
but he told me a story about Susie Wargen forgetting
her underwear her second pair of underwear for the.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
Trip to New Orleans, so she had to.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
Wash her underwear in the sink the night before and
then where I'm again the next day. So I have
to ask you, where were you? Why didn't you give
her an extra pair of underwear. I'm sure you had
plenty of actress packed.
Speaker 6 (17:05):
You know what.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
I didn't go on the trip.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Come, Oh, well, that makes sense.
Speaker 5 (17:09):
I was unable to help Susi out.
Speaker 6 (17:11):
But I gotta tell you, I was like on vacation
and Susi's like.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Hey, can you hop on the show with Dave and Rick?
And I first sack, I'm like sure, and then it
didn't expect them to bring up underwear. But it was
a good lesson and like, you know, being versatile, being
able to talk about anything you got, you gotta be
ready with those guys. They caught me. They caught me
off guard. But I would always always help you be
out in a pitch if I'm there from there.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
All right?
Speaker 3 (17:34):
Romy I got.
Speaker 4 (17:35):
I have to ask you this question because when I
was thinking about the Broncos facing the Saints, I go
back to last season pre I mean last season regular
season game when the Broncos went ran rough shot.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Over that same Saints defense.
Speaker 4 (17:50):
I know some of the personnel has changed and the
coaching has changed just a little bit. I just want
to point something out and and trust me, I do
have a question here at the end of it.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
So we go back to the game.
Speaker 4 (17:59):
Last year, Defonte Williams had eighty eight yards rushing. His
longest run was twenty yards. Bow Knicks had seventy five.
His longest was thirty two. Now, fast forward to this
weekend's preseason game Aardric Estimate, his longest yards from scrimmage
from a running back standpoint was nine yards.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
He's no longer on the roster.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Sam Ellinger his longest rush of the game was nineteen yards. Now,
with all of that being said, I know it was
a heavy emphasis on the run game.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Tell me something, what's going on with the run game?
Speaker 4 (18:33):
Because how is it that Bow and Jafonte had great
outings regular season? I know this preseason Audrick Estame is
no longer on this roster, but other than Audrick Estime
and Sam Ellinger, we have none of the guys who
are currently on the Broncos roster who were able to
rush for more than five yards.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
What the hell's going on?
Speaker 6 (18:56):
Think that was a good question.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
I think JK Jovian is an interesting because we really,
even like Steams, really got to see much at all
of JK. Dobbins. We've got such a small sample size
from him that it's kind of it's kind of hard
to judge.
Speaker 6 (19:11):
I think, if you will, I think with with R. J.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
Harvey, what I like and I'll give you what I
like from R. J. Harvey was the progression from specifically
you know, Week one, Week two, so not so much
that New Orleans game, but in that San Francisco game
and you kind of kept seeing him bounce to the
outside and then to see him go up the middle,
run up.
Speaker 6 (19:30):
The middle for that touchdown.
Speaker 5 (19:31):
I really like that. Nick. I'm like, that's that's taking
your corrections. That's obviously a point of emphasis.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
And making a change and looking confident in doing it.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
You know. I feel like the run game is still
the pieces.
Speaker 6 (19:45):
Certainly feel like they're there this.
Speaker 5 (19:47):
Year with JK.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
With R.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
J Harvey and then with Juliel, are you is there
going to be a commitment to the run game? Though
that that begs the question, where is Sean Payton willing
to stay patient? You know, so if it's not maybe
picking up early in the game and kind of those.
Speaker 6 (20:04):
Are things that I think we saw last year that.
Speaker 5 (20:06):
We wanted to see stick with the run game a
little bit more. He had it on his call, she
run the ball.
Speaker 6 (20:12):
So it's still all up in the air.
Speaker 5 (20:14):
They seemed to have the pieces. Audre Guessimy obviously wasn't
sitting the bill and he was the odd man out,
and so now it seems like this is a running
back room that Sean has curated. So are we going
to run it? Well, it is a wait and see game.
But this offensive line is good enough that you would
certainly hope that they would, But we still don't have
enough evidence to your point to go off of, Yeah,
(20:36):
they're definitely gonna do it this year.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
They're definitely gonna run the ball, mark Yeah, and regular
season opener a couple of weeks away, and the Tennessee
Titans defensive line is no joke as well, so that'll
be tough to get the run game going against them.
We haven't talked to you in a while, Romeo. I
wanted to get your thoughts on the Devon Vley trade
to New Orleans Sean's Peyton's old stomping grounds. They get
a fourth and a seventh round pick and return. What
(20:59):
are your thoughts on parting ways with the bomb Maley?
What does that tell us about the Broncos wide receiver room.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Yeah, you know, I've always been a big Bley fan.
I was like pounding the table for the Veley breakout year.
But I think this return is just fantastic. It's a
Sean a George Payton masterclass to get a fourth rounder
and the seventh rounder, but especially that fourth rounder for
a guy that's twenty seven turning twenty eight, and I
do think his age is a factor. It's just an
(21:29):
offer you can't refuse. I tried to do that in
the Godfather voice, and I embarrassed myself.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
I'm not gonna do that again. I thought you were
going to go there.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
I thought you were going to I tried, and it
was so bad that I can't humiliate myself again.
Speaker 5 (21:42):
But I think it was. It was just such a
good offer and it tells you that they have so
much confidence in you know, we keep talking about the
ascension of Toroy Franklin. Well, they obviously really do believe that,
and what we're seeing is true. Pat Bryan who continues
to show that he's earning himself playtime, they obviously love
what they get out of him, and so I at
the end of the day, to have a player like
Devon Melee, who's the Titlevision player, to feel like he's expendable,
(22:05):
that speaks to the Broncos deat in that room. And
also that fourth round pick, if you're not happy, you
can pick up another riding receiver with that pick next year.
So this one is hard.
Speaker 6 (22:16):
To feel bad about it because I think it was
just it was such.
Speaker 5 (22:20):
A good return for him that sometimes you got to
make those deals.
Speaker 4 (22:24):
Well, Romie, I want to switch gears for just a
second and talk a little bit about the CU Buffs,
because college football seasons, like the NFL season, is right
upon us. The CU buff your CU Buffs face off
this Friday against my Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, and one of
the biggest topics for Coach Prime Man and the CU
bus was who.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
Was going to take the man to and control.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
At the quarterback puisition after Shadora Sanders kind of took
his talents to the NFL.
Speaker 3 (22:53):
So when you look at that, which guy do you
think is going to.
Speaker 4 (22:58):
Have a better or a will with the team in
a better position. Is it Juju or was it more
experienced Caden salt.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
I think at the beginning of the season, Nicky, you
got to lean on Caden Salter and his experience. I
mean Pat Schrmmer talked about it today that you can't
replace experience, right. You can even look at.
Speaker 6 (23:16):
You know, Bo Nick's coming into the NFL and you've
played a.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
Million, thousand, bajillion games in college and that experience and
that maturity really helped him in the NFL. And I
think with Juju, he's really young and jujus super talented,
as they've said a million times, But to just throw
him out there early, I think that you know, you
rely on Caiden and his experience and his skill and
(23:41):
how well he does and play action. There's so many
pieces to Cayden that I think he can rely on,
and you work Juju in and who knows what this
looks like. I think four weeks in six weeks in
this quarterback rotation could look entirely different, but it feels
like it makes sense at least early on under the lights.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
Under the pressure to rely on Kate and that.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
Experience and let Juju develop so that you know, he
doesn't you know, start seeing ghosts or anything like that
too soon.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
And with the same thing with that run the ball more.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
I mean, two of the worst run team in college
the last two years.
Speaker 6 (24:17):
That has to be a bigger this year.
Speaker 8 (24:19):
Simply put, if you're going to have Juju out there
a significant amount, so hopefully we see a resurgence.
Speaker 6 (24:25):
Of the run game.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Well, sticking with the bus and the run game. You know,
they brought in Marshall Falk to be their new coach
this year. You think that's got to have some impact
on them wanting to emphasize the running game more. What
has been the feedback from players and staff with the
CU buffs about Marshall Falk and his impact on the team.
Speaker 5 (24:45):
Yeah, you know you would think so, right, if you're
not going to run the ball, why are you hiring
Marshall fulk But I did have Dalan Hayden on my show.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
A few weeks ago and now at this point, but
he was talking about how you know, Marshall Falk has.
Speaker 5 (24:57):
Really I mean, these running backs are just seating of
everything he said, every word he says, which you really
want to hear. But he's really challenging them in different
ways and bringing them up to the board and you know,
and challenging them to look at pap pro differently and all.
Speaker 6 (25:11):
These different aspects of the game.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
And you know, it feels like they're getting this really
deep lesson and in so many aspects of what it
takes to be a really good running back, not just
running the ball that pass row. So their the redresponse
has been at least from the backs. You know, they're
kind of eating it all up and absolutely loving it.
But what does that what does that look like? Now
come to Fruition where these backs who didn't get a.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
Ton of run you know, the.
Speaker 5 (25:37):
Past couple of years, are are they going to be
you know, ready to go? I think they should be right, but.
Speaker 6 (25:43):
We'll certainly see how that goes.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
But they're certainly loving what they get, what they've gotten
out of Marsha Falk so far.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
You know what that round means.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Another Broncos cut they have cut marchis the offensive linemen
from the roster.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Ah, so that's up there? What fourteen now.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Fourteen undrafted rookie, fourteen cuts?
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Well, Rollanian Roman. This be totally honest that we knew
that a lot of these guys were gonna get cut.
I mean, this is kind of the nature of the business.
Does far Now is there a guy that's been released
by the team that you were kind of shocked of
(26:30):
that that happened, That there was break, there was news that, oh,
this particular player is no longer.
Speaker 3 (26:34):
On the roster.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
You know, It's funny because I've been thinking about this
kind of for a while. I don't think there's going
to be any huge surprises. I mean maybe the trade
of Veile kind of calmed me off guard a little bit,
But that one actually makes sense when you look at it.
ESTI may, I guess is the biggest kind of feels
like the biggest domino. But it didn't feel like that
big of a surprise in regards to how we saw
(26:59):
him continuously be.
Speaker 8 (27:00):
The last guy in the rotations all of preseason, in
every single preseason.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Game, and you just felt like him even you could
even the writing potentially was on the wall when he's
a healthy scratch for the playoff game in Buffalo, but
still the estimated kind of scenario has been interesting where
it feels.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
Like there's something more going on, maybe behind the scenes that.
Speaker 5 (27:24):
We don't know that he doesn't fit, maybe in one
way or another. So I still think estimate. I don't
think it was a surprise based on everything we've seen,
but it's been interesting and it just feels like there's
more to that story. I guess Tamari Mathis I wasn't
surprised about. We'll see if he clears waivers. I think
that's the kid who would be get certainly picked up
and play on another team.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
I'm not sure they'll end up on the Broncos practice squad.
Speaker 5 (27:46):
But no huge surprises, I don't think this year, and
I don't think anyone's.
Speaker 6 (27:50):
Going to certainly totally blow our socks off.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
And we're going to get super shocked about.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
Well, the Broncos first team offense has not really blown
our socks off. We've talked earlier with you of Nick
highlighting the struggles of the running game. How are you
feeling about the Broncos offense. I mean, is it just
going to be up to the defense saving them in
some games? This year, or are you feeling more confident
and that this was just preseason and we'll get back
to what the Broncos looked like on offense last year
(28:16):
once we get into regular season games with Bo Knicks
under center and Sean Payton.
Speaker 3 (28:20):
Calling the places.
Speaker 6 (28:22):
You know, I think this Broncos offense in September is
going to look nothing like the Broncos.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
Offense in December or in January, which is is a
good thing. I think it still takes time to build
chemistry with Evan Ingram.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
I think Bo will.
Speaker 5 (28:37):
Still have his growing pains of that Chess game, that
cant Mouth game.
Speaker 6 (28:41):
Now with defense is throwing different things.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
At him and how he responds, and I think that
there's going to be this. I think this offense is
going to go through some growth, and I don't.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Think that's a bad thing. I think that's why it
was really important to sign Courtland Sutton.
Speaker 5 (28:55):
We saw it in the preseason. He trusts Cortland. Bois
trust Courtland, and he needs that early early in the
year especially, and.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
He trusts Troy Franklin as well.
Speaker 5 (29:03):
But you know, if you're throwing in pab Ryan Moore
and Pat and Sean Payton talked about how much he
loves to move his receivers in and out, and they
aren't necessarily always going to be playing the same position.
You know, you're throwing Evan Angerman there who they're growing chemistry.
But I talked to Evan a couple of weeks.
Speaker 6 (29:19):
Ago and he said, the sick time, you know, it takes.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
Into the season really really.
Speaker 6 (29:23):
Get on the same page with your quarterback. So I
think we do have to practice the little patients.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
But I think that's where.
Speaker 6 (29:28):
The defense comes in. I think this defense is going to.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
Be so fantastic that I don't see a lot of
teams scoring more than twenty one, twenty four on these guys,
so in those early games, and maybe even less than that.
So I think in the early part.
Speaker 6 (29:42):
Of the season, where this offense.
Speaker 8 (29:44):
Is still melding and coming together and it's obviously going
to take some time, it can rely.
Speaker 5 (29:49):
On the defense to keep them in games and they
don't have to kind of get stressed. And I think
it's going to be fun to watch the progression this season.
Speaker 6 (29:56):
And see what they look like come playoff time.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
It's gonna be a lot different than they look against Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Roamy great insight as always real quick before we let
you go. When does the first episode of Coach Prime's
Playbook with Yours Truly?
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Romy Bean air this year? When's the first episode?
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Ma man? We're shooting in the first episode tomorrow morning,
going up to Boulder and then it airs on Wednesday night.
Super excited about it. We got a lot of new
stuff coming.
Speaker 6 (30:21):
This season, so first episode will be.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Kind of similar to last year, and then we're going
to get crazy. Things are gonna be a little bit different.
So I'm very excited about it.
Speaker 6 (30:30):
And can't wait. Can't wait to kick that off and.
Speaker 5 (30:33):
Bring Bust Nation some different things. You guys talk to
me listen, So it's gonna be a little different this year.
Speaker 1 (30:37):
Well, I can't wait to see what the changes are.
Romy Bean from CBS Colorado. We always appreciate your time.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Appreciate you guys.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
All right, there's realmy bean. Nick.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
You have any thoughts on any of our answers there,
maybe about the Broncos offense or the cuts they've made.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Well, for me, it's always not just about the guys
that were released. It's about the guys who were able
to make the roster right. And that part is really
true and so so important because when when you look
at the Broncos roster and you say, okay, well, were
there any guys who I felt coming into this whole
(31:16):
process with training camp that probably wasn't going to make
the team that somehow find themselves on the roster.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
Well, I think about Michael Bandy.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Yeah right, Ben and I have kind of joke about this,
but Bandy reminds me of like a Wes Welker type
of guy.
Speaker 7 (31:36):
And how many times why, Well, because how he plays
or how he looks well, how he plays. Okay, it's
how he plays because being a smaller receiver and slot receiver,
there's certain things that you have to perfect.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
In your game that you may not be able to
get away like with some of the bigger body receivers.
So being able to get in and out your breaks.
Even though you know Bandy is not the fastest guy,
but watching him develop over the time being released plack
practice squad, be coming back to this team, you got
(32:15):
to be thinking, if you're him, at some point, I
got to break through at some point. So as a
look at this particular point, seeming as though that might
be the case, Like I said, we don't know someone
could wake up tomorrow morning and be.
Speaker 7 (32:28):
Like, Hey, Michael, don't grab that breakfast.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
The exactly what they told me, but I think it's
important and for me, if he makes this roster, I
would be really happy for him, knowing as though I
too have been in that same situation.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Well as Ben would say, a real lunch bail guy
more quick than fast exactly.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
We'll be right back
Speaker 1 (32:50):
