Speaker 1 (00:00):
That's joined by Nick Ferguson and Zack Segers behind the glass.
Thanks to Steve Atwater the Hall of Fame for joining
us in the first hour, romy Bean and Rick Lewis
in the last hour. And man, what a fun show
it's been. We're going to keep it going. Talking about
Zack Seger's latest article, stock Up and Stock Down, the
(00:20):
Broncos Stock Report, and first on his list, the connection
between your starting quarterback Bo Nicks and your wide receiver
one Courtland Sutton playfake.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Nicks rolls to his left FROs on the run, He's
got to open receiver. That ball is Tottcker, spent away
from the defender, now stumbles back into the playing field
inside the thirty yard line. There's the biggest play of
the quarter Cortland Sutton on both these signals with his
left hand a first down. It's a gain of forty
three yards. It diver needed a chump play. They got
(00:52):
it right there on the boot pass completion from Nick
to Sutton for forty three quick throw on third down
and one to catch at the goal line and then
tumbling into the end zone. That is Courtland Sutton and
that is a Denver touchdown. Third down and one, a
strike of nineteen yards on a sidearm flicked by Bo
Nicks to.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Courtland Sutton, who just did a great job of.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Bodying the defender and he kept Julian Blackman, one of
the safeties, behind him, much like you had seen in
the NBA. First touchdown of the game today goes to
the Broncos and they lead it currently nine to six.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
That was during the game on Saturday, the Broncos final
preseason game.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
Nick, you didn't even know we were going to talk
about this.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
I like to surprise you from time to time, but
I also love synchronicity on the show, and we were
breaking down that play, that touchdown pass from Bow to Courtland.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
And the break. What did you see?
Speaker 4 (01:45):
All right, Broncos crutching, Let me break this down for
you because sometimes you can see something but not understand
exactly what you saw. So in that particular play, for me,
I'm an approaching from a defensive standpoint. I always look
where a team's top receiver is located. Usually that gives
me indicators of what the route could possibly be. If
(02:05):
you go back and look at this particular play, you
have two receivers set to Bo Nixon's left and call
the son's on the ball and the opposite receiver.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Is off the ball.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
Immediately, I was like, okay, there's an alert right there
because your star receiver is on the ball, which means
as though he's trying to get vertical right now. And
what you also saw, if you guys go back and
watch that play, you go to see the nickel right,
the Nickel defender is already downhill. He's already giving it up.
So if I'm his safety, I'm screaming and I'm yelling
(02:35):
at him right.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Because you're about to put me on call.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
The Sun's highlight reelings and I just got posterized because
you couldn't hold the disguise.
Speaker 5 (02:44):
So when the Nickel left.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
That left the safety in a very vulnerable position. I
do have been there myself, standing there deep and there's
a manus Sanders and I got to cover him and
there's nothing but space. Right, you're just praying to the
Lord that the rush gets there. In this case, that
didn't help out the Saints defender. And when you look
at Bo's movement, he's in the shotgun. So when you're
(03:08):
in the shotgun, the quarterback can see things develop right
now on the center, it's a little more difficult.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
You got to see it on the move. So he
was able to see the slot defender coming right now
next week, that's right. So usually teams have what they
call a side.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Adjustment, meaning if that guy's coming and have a deep route,
I'm gonna cut it off. But they stayed with it.
They kept it on because Bo realized, oh, we like
that matchup. All big body receiver on a safety and
I'm sure that saint safety was shaken.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
In his boost and you can tell he was flat footed.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yes, he was flat footed.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
And then you look at the safety away you can
tell right away that during man covers because he too
was in flat he was flat footed.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
There was no one in the middle of the field.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
So Bo identified the matchup and he took advantage of it.
And the great part about it, both threw the ball
before calling even got out of his break. Now, from
a coaching standpoint, if you are you know, coach Lombardi
or coach Peyton or Evan Davis Webb, You're gonna say Bo,
great read, great touchdown throw.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
But here's what I'd like for you to do on
that play.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
I would like for you to set your feet and
step up in the pocket because Bo has a lot
of armstrenth or as they like to say in the
pre draft process, arm talent, right, And what Bo did
he used his armshrent to drive the ball down the
field because like I showed you, he never set his
foot his feet and he was throwing off his back foot,
(04:36):
So that tells you what type of velocity that he
has as a quarterback. And they just kind of put
that safety in the buy and it was thrown inside
where only Courtland could make the catch. And from a
defensive standpoint, I've been in that position before. Now insert
Tony Gonzalez in a position for Courtland sudden and I'm
(04:59):
being and a defenders. It's hard for me to get
around it. So there's the post to move. It's basically
you throw them.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
And catch it.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
And that's why you heard in Dave Logan's call, and
you also heard him talk about Bo Nix's throwing angle,
and yeah, I think if the safety isn't caught flat
footed on that play, you might be in trouble if
you're not both setting your feet.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Well, this is where defenders have to look at the game,
and this is where as a defender, whether it's a
Bronco defender or another team's defender, I get upset, I
pulled out by Steve Spurry and I'm throwing my boys
at the TV right because in that case, you know
you're in zero coverage. Basically you have no help inside underneath.
(05:45):
That's when the defender needs to step inside because if
Bo's going to complete that pass and sudden, you want
it to be a corner rock because it's going to
take longer for that ball to get there.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
Now, there's no saying as oh, you're going to be
the beat in there.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Right, but it makes it more difficult.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
It makes it for a more difficult throw because throwing
outside opposed to throwing inside, especially when you know you
don't have nettle whole help, And that just kind of
drove me crazy. But something else, as the Broncos we
have to kind of take advantage of. But also I'll
say this too, they have to be consciously aware of that.
(06:21):
I'm not watching film like I'm with the forty nine
ers forty hours a week, I'm putting in time I'm watching.
But if I can pick that up, someone else is
gonna pick that up too.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Whose job is to watch it Broncos for forty hours
a week before he plays exactly. Well, hey, man, I
feel like I like to consider myself a pretty highly
educated football fan, but I feel like I get a PhD.
And breaking down plays every time with you during the breaks,
and I get to fail in here, man, because you
just see things that the average fan doesn't see, and
that helps me as a fan realize that there's a
(06:53):
lot more going on on each play other than just
a successful touchdown pass from boat to court.
Speaker 4 (06:58):
Well, this is kind of one of the reason as
I kind of got into broadcasting, because I got tired
of hearing local and national analysts talk about players and
schemes and I'm like, well, what the hell are they
talking about right, like like like really, And it chaps
my rear end when I hear guys who played and
(07:18):
they don't really talk about it the way that they
should because they take a side and I'm like, no,
just play it right down the middle. Tell exactly what
you saw. Because my job is to educate the listener.
I'm not going to tell you what to take. That's
not my job. I'm just going to paint the picture
and show you what it is and let you come
to your own foregone conclusion. But for me, I like
(07:41):
being able to make fans smarter. So you know what
it is that you watch. But I'll give you guys
a little nugget. Zach's young singers, here's something for you
too as well.
Speaker 5 (07:51):
No matter who the team is, find their number.
Speaker 4 (07:55):
One receiver right and watch how they move him around
and the reason they're moving him around because they're trying
to free him up to create a matchup.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
Because if you normally line.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Up outside, you're facing maybe the number two and number
one corner, they move you in the slot. You own
a nickelbag or a dime package, and you have all
that type of room to run.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
So that's where if you want to talk or start
watching film, start their first.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
Find a team's number one receiver and find out where
he lines up on every single play.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
And you see the Bengals, you know, my team wode
with Jamar Chase. They move him around all the field
and create those mismatches.
Speaker 3 (08:35):
Speaking of Zach.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Seegers, we're talking about his article stock Up stock Down
from the Broncos final preseason game. You can find that
at koa Colorado dot com. Zach another player you had
with their stock up, Hugh Robinson.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
What did you.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
See from him this preseason that made you think, man,
this guy might be really something and sticking around on
this Broncos team.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Well, I think you just had a stellar preseason.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
You know, he created six pressures that led the team.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
This most recent game, he.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Had the sack, first time he was able to get
a sack in the preseason, was creating a ton of pressure,
even getting some quarterback hits but.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Hadn't finished one yet.
Speaker 6 (09:10):
Finally did that against the Saints, forcing the turnover on
that play. And then his pass rush win rate was
eighteen point nine percent. Just to give you an idea
of how frequently he's beating the man across from him.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Miles Garrett and the TJ.
Speaker 6 (09:24):
Watts of the world are between twenty and twenty five percent.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Pretty good compat Yeah.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Absolutely, you know he's going against a second third straight tackle,
so it's at and a quarterback who has worse pocket
presence and a worse internal clock, and so there's definitely
asterisks on this. But I think he's shown you everything
you would want to see out of him being a
promising young edge rusher. I think he's going to be
an instant impact player in this rotation. It reminds me
(09:50):
of the twenty fifteen Broncos where they went four deep
with Shane Ray and Shack Barrett.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
Coming off the bench.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
Except with how Joan Ellis and Andre Tillman are looking,
I think this team goes five deep at edge with
legitimate contributors. Oh And Nick Saban has labeled ke Robinson
the best special teams player he's ever coached in his
coaching career, which is a prestigious one and lengthy one.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
So I just think.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
If he even gives you like one hundred quality pass
rushing stats, it's going to help keep everyone fresher. You're
going to get a better version of Benito and Cooper
and all of them as a result. And I just
I'm excited to see it. He's maybe the rookie I'm
most excited to see Week one right now.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Yeah, And I mean that just goes back to the
quality depth on this Broncos team, with the roster that
George Peyton has built and another quality later round pick
from George Payton in the draft.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
One of the stock downs, and you're not gonna like
this one.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
Nick on Zack Seger's article at Kwacolorado dot com Your
favorite punter in the NFL Jeremy Crosshaw and the entire
Denver Broncos punt team.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Well, I've heard all the reports.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
I didn't get to make it out too many practices
this year, but everyone who did said Jeremy Crosshaw just
boom and the ball during Broncos training camp, and it
looks like the lights have been a little too bright
for him in this preseason. He's really struggled. I mean,
Zax has it on his list. Among thirty seven punters
who have seen work this preseason, Jeremy Crosshaw ranked thirty
(11:14):
second in yards per punt and dead last, thirty seventh
and net punt average and thirty six and yards allowed
per return and thirty fifth in hang time. He was
one of just five punters to have less than two
punts down inside the opponent's twenty yard line. Each of
the other five punters had up fewer attempts in Crosshaw.
(11:36):
Are you worried about the Denver Broncos punter situation?
Speaker 5 (11:39):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
If you were to say that you were an individual
that you were worried, then might that means that you
don't sing all out of the punter. You talk about
the whole unit as a whole, right, And yeah, I
mean I call him Crushaw rush Shall because the way
he crushes the ball and playing in an altitude, he's.
Speaker 5 (11:59):
Going to get a lot lyft, right, He's gonna get
a lot of lyft.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
And the one thing that I mean, you like that
because it gives you time for the guys to get downfield.
But you kind of worry a little about out kicking
your coverage. But it's on those guys, especially those gunners.
You gotta you gotta beat that single, you gotta beat
that that double. You gotta work to get down there. There.
There's no such thing. And I'm telling you this because
I play a majority of my career on special teams
(12:25):
for Mike westoff right, one one of the the if
not the.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
Best special teams coach in the league.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
That's kind of.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
Exactly, And there was no excuses they could put three
guys out there. He expected you to run down the
field and beat those guys. So when you look at
a special teams group, it's a unit, right, not just
not just a punter.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
But I can.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
See being from Australia, trying to make their adjustment or whatever.
And and also keep this in mind, Crushrat was the
only punter in Broncos camp, right, so you say, okay,
well they provide enough competition for him, right, And you
can say no, And I'm not gonna say that he
(13:07):
got comfortable or anything, but every player needs a little
pressure because, as they say, pressure is what makes diamonds.
Speaker 5 (13:15):
Right.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
You don't want those those brown diamonds or those factory diamonds. No, no, no,
you want that diamond that's forged, you know, out of competition.
Speaker 5 (13:25):
And for me, I'm not down on the kid. Everyone
has a bad day.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
You just have to make sure that you are more
consistent than you're not. And I know how this thing
works being a former player. Everyone wants to pick apart
everything that you do and it becomes easy for people
on the outside of the fence to throw rocks.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Right, Oh, he's not doing this, he's not doing that.
And I always go back to him, can you do
a better job? Right? Can you do a better job?
Have you ever been in that position? So if you
haven't and you're talking smack, you know, I'm gonna tell you.
Grant said the hell.
Speaker 1 (14:03):
Up and maybe you have been in that position and
done a worst job than whoever you're critiquing. You know,
we're having to talk about Dan Orlovsky, who I actually
like his analysis. We're talking about v during the break,
but him talking about you know, Shador Sanders and some
other players, and you didn't take too kindly to him
being so negative about those guys.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
I feel the.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
Same way about Dan as I feel about Ryan Clark,
and I feel about so many other former players that
have kind of jumped into the broadcast business. For me,
all I ask is that you're fair, right, and you
are unbiased in your analysis. And that's me asking a
(14:44):
lot because regular people can't do that.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
In their regular lives.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah not nowadays.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
That and I'm asking people to do it in the
in the world of sports, because everyone has a lane
that they choose. They want to root for this person
and that's it, and the positions be comes so fixed
and solid they can't change their minds even if you
present evidence like I show Joe Thomas say it should
do I step up in the pocket?
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Where where are you wanting to.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
It's great to sit in a skybox and have a
thirty thousand foot view and talk about it. When you
Joe Thomas have been a tackle, You've never been a quarterback, right,
so you don't know. So that's what I tried. This
is why I tried to educate fans and let them know. Here,
here's what you saw. Let me break down to you,
break down for you what really happened.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
Well, maybe Joe Thomas was still a little hungover from
his appearance at the Morgan Wallend concert in Cleveland this
past weekend. Who knows someone who is always fair in
their reporting. Zach seekers find his Broncos stock report at
KOA Colorado dot com.
Speaker 3 (15:48):
We've got an NFL six.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Pack when we come back on Broncos Country Night on
KOA A fifty am ninety four to one FM. And
then for Benjamin all break my guy Nick Ferguson beside
me in studio and Zach Segers doing a great job
behind the glass as always, before we get to the
NFL six pack. Nick, and by the way, thank you
(16:11):
for the kind words everyone on the KWA Common Spirit
Health text line at five six six nine zero. Rick
can't wait to hear your Broncos parody songs. He sang,
He sends Broncos songs to like classic rock songs, but
he changes the lyrics for the Broncos. Really in the
last couple of years, before last year, they were all
pretty negative, which that's fitting because you know it has
(16:34):
pretty rough times in Broncos country. But they're starting to
be more positive. So I'm excited to hear what he
has to come up with this year. But there was
something you wanted to talk about, Nick, and it had
to do with some of Sean Payton's postgame comments after
the Saints game.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Let's listen to him and then we'll get your reaction.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I've said this before and this is just me.
Speaker 7 (16:54):
I'm I'm but I can't stand watching a sideline interview
while the game's going on. I just think that there
are a lot of important plays going on. I saw
a broadcast the other day had three of them from
the same team. Well, each player was asked six or
more questions, nineteen questions while the game was going on,
(17:19):
and I just think that it's important that the team
is focused on what's going on on the field. They're
learning and I'm sure there'll be a day it's mandated,
but until that comes, I liked our focus when Courtland
was playing and when he wasn't playing.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
Sean Payton always upset about something. I gotta love that
in your head, Coach, what were your thoughts on those comments?
Speaker 5 (17:44):
Nick Hey?
Speaker 4 (17:45):
That was hilarious because coach said maybe started speaking in
its existence.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
At some point, it's gonna be mandated.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
And I'm gonna tell coach, You're not gonna win that
one because players that can contractually obligate it to do interviews,
not those interviews during games. But we see this mostly
taking place during the preseason.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
Never happens during the regular season. But this is part
of the.
Speaker 4 (18:06):
NFL bringing fans in to the situation of football and then.
Speaker 5 (18:11):
Having to peek behind the curtain.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Well, I gotta say, like, I was watching the Bengals
preseason game a couple weeks ago, and that might have
been the game he was referencing because they had a
couple different players on and then Joe Burrow for like
five minutes, and I was like, I love this because
you know, it's the fourth quarter of preseason Week two.
Who really cares what's going on on the field. I
want to hear what Joe Burrow has to say about
this team, about the Trey Hendrickson contract situation. Like a
(18:36):
As a viewer, I love it, but I can get
his point where, you know, it's kind of frustrating as
a coach where you look over the sideline and one
of your star players is chopping it up with a
reporter instead of focusing on the guys that are trying
to make the team.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
But this is what the league wants, this is what
the owners want, this is what Roger Goodell wants. This
is part of letting the fans and that fan experience
into the world of and listen, you got an old
school way of thinking versus the new style of NFL brand.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
But once again, I don't know if coach Payton's gonna
win this one.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
No, I think the new style is going to win.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Any time, especially in the preseason, the road of the season, preseason.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Well, not everybody always gets what they want, but I
think I'm gonna get what I want right now.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
A drink. Let's get to the NFL six pack.
Speaker 8 (19:23):
There is time for the NFL six pat I'm going
to trade a last year insight and insight information you
can't find anywhere else. I know the top six NFL
headlines what.
Speaker 6 (19:38):
Today the Las Vegas Raiders added Kenny Pickett and Amari
Cooper to their offense, but it's also been reported that
their top receiver from a season ago, the wide receiver
that is Jacobe Myers, has requested a trade. What are
your expectations for that Silver and Black offense this year
and do you think the addition of Amari Cooper would
(19:59):
be enough to offset a hypothetical subtraction of Jacoby Myers.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Absolutely, most people are writing the Raiders off and I know,
especially if we live in Broncos Country, people don't look at.
Speaker 5 (20:09):
It that way.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
But adding a guy like l Marik could be coming
back to the team that actually drafted him, there's still
some gas.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
In the tank.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
He's an excellent route runner and he's going to have
an opportunity to capitalize off of what man coverage or
single covers because Rock Browins is going to command double
coverage himself with an asker Jens. So this is a
great move for the Raiders. KNDI Picktt gives him assurance,
and Jacoby Myers, I don't know if he's going to
(20:36):
be trade it, but he's going to be one of
these situations where the Raiders would be competitive this season.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Yeah, And I think Jacoby Myers.
Speaker 1 (20:42):
You know, he was the raiders top wide receiver. I
don't think he's a wide receiver one on many other teams.
A great wide receiver two, but not a wide receiver one.
But if they can somehow work that out and keep
him around and have Jacoby Myers and Amari Cooper on
the outside and Brock Bowers eating up one hundred plus
catches on the end side, plus, you would think the
running game is going to be better with Ashton Genty and.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
Chip Kelly at the helm of that running offense.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
We saw him at Ohio State, we saw him back
in his Oregon days of how creative he can be.
I think the Raiders are going to be better than team,
and then everyone around in Broncos Country thinks they're going
to be.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
And I think they're going to stack up some wins
this year. I fully agree.
Speaker 6 (21:21):
And to your point, it sounds like the Raiders won't
trade Jakobe Myers.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
They said, we have no interest in doing that. You're
a good player for us.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Two Trey Hendrickson and Terry McLaurin ended their holdouts today
by inky new deals which high end start.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Do you think will be the next to end.
Speaker 6 (21:39):
Their holdout Nick Finito, Michah Parsons, or maybe someone else.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
Well, I guess the idea is that Michael Parsons, but
he's not holding out, he's holding in.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Not sure there's a standoff.
Speaker 3 (21:54):
I guess you got to say.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
That Michael Paulson's the next guy.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Doesn't want to roll into Week one and go down
oh one to Philadelphia. So in typical Jerry Jones fashion,
he's going to come down at the wire.
Speaker 5 (22:09):
He's going to sign like it.
Speaker 1 (22:10):
Yeah, And I think Nick Benito, I don't even know
if that gets done this year. I think he is
betting on himself. I think he's going to put up
another amazing year fifteen plus sacks this year maybe, and
he's going to get really paid this next offseason or
franchise tagged by the Broncos and then he'll make some
good money either way. But I think Michael Parsons is
(22:31):
the next big deal to get done, and I think
he'll be the highest paid non quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 6 (22:36):
I'll zag and predict Nick Benito will be the next one.
But I think there's a very good chance you're right,
especially after today. But Ben Olbright was saying on here
that he was expecting Nick Benito to sign.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
Somewhere north of thirty.
Speaker 6 (22:47):
I imagine that gets complicated now that you have Trey
Hendrickson signing for thirty on the dot.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
And thank god the Bengals signed Trey Hagen Dickson.
Speaker 8 (22:55):
Just saying three.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
Yeah, I was surprised he took that deal on it too,
from one Bengal to a former Bengal. Joe Mixon will
miss at least the first four games of the Texans
season after they placed him on the non football injury
list today with a foot injury. How much do you
think this will impact the Texans and the AFC playoff race?
And who do you think takes over as the lead
(23:20):
back in that backfield?
Speaker 4 (23:23):
This is going to change a lot for the Texans.
But here's a great thing about what they're doing offensively.
They have Damian Pierce and they have Nick Chubb, right,
so they're gonna be okay. But because this is not
one of those things where you lose mixing and then
you go into a panic, this is why they wanted
to make sure Nick Casario the GM make sure that
(23:45):
they had someone and waiting.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
So I mean, when you look at the.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Number of running backs they have, then a quarterback, and
the offensive weapons just the wide receivers themselves. So if
the Houston Texas were deficient had the running back position,
they more than make up for with the wide receiver
weapons that they had.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Yeah, and Damian pieris no joke. Nick Chubb will see
what he can do. I've seen mixed reports on his
performance out of their training camp in preseason games. I
would be more worried if they weren't in the AFC South.
I think they still win this division. I think they
go to the playoffs for the third straight year, and
Joe Mixon will be back at some point and probably
put up another thousand yard season.
Speaker 6 (24:23):
Yeah, you should be back when the games really count.
My money's on the guy you guys didn't mention though,
Woody Marx, the rookie out of USC, really good pass
catching back. I think like him and Jaden Blue, who
went to the Cowboys, excuse me, were the two best pass.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
Catching backs in this draft.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
Their new offensive coordinator, Nick Hayley, came from the Rams,
but before that he was a proteger under Josh McDaniels
with the Patriots. This guy is like all those Patriots scatbacks.
They had the most James White coated running back I've
ever seen.
Speaker 3 (24:53):
My money's on it. That's a great point, man.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
That could add another layer to their offense that they
haven't had in the past years.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Poor thank you very much.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
And ESPN released their staff voted list of the top
one hundred NFL players today. PS two ranked sixth on
that list and was the number two ranked non quarterback,
behind only Miles Garrett. The top five, ranking ahead of
Patrick Sartan in order were Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Miles Garrett,
(25:21):
Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow. What do you make of
PS two being the second highest ranked non quarterback and
do you think he should be ranked ahead of any
of those four quarterbacks?
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Uh?
Speaker 5 (25:34):
Hell yeah, hell yeah, and hell yeah.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
Well we're still talking about from a defensive player.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
Well, listen, we're.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Still talking about the NFL, where in this profession everyone
loves up the quarterback, no matter what everything's about the quarterback. Well,
quarterbacks can't win football.
Speaker 5 (25:51):
Games without a run game and a defense.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
And with PS two kind of taking home the defensive
player in the year, that speaks volumes of itself as
far as his capability and how defense still Trump's offense.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
I don't care what any offensive playotils you.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
You can keep saying that that doesn't make it true.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Well, it's true in my world. And as and if
you want to as Patrick Mahomes what happened to him
in the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
That's a great point, man. But yeah, I think I
think PS two should be very happy with where he's
ranked on this list. Six and the second highest non
quarterback on the list, second highest defensive player on the list.
I think Miles Garrett is the most impactful player in
the NFL, but PS two is right there, man. And
if he has another year like he did last year,
(26:38):
just shutting down wide receiver ones all over the league,
we could see him even higher on this list next year.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
And I understand the wanting to see him ranked above
the quarterbacks for Nick, But Nick, how about PS two
ranking ahead of any of his offensive counterparts, any of
those wide receivers Jamart Chase, Justin Jefferson I would have expected.
I think the NFL top on an NFL network competing
list will probably have those guys ranked ahead of PS two.
Was excited to see PS two the defensive guy given
(27:07):
given the Knight up.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Here's what they're telling you what I just said, Like
Grant said, you know it's all these true if you
believe it. But I believe it because it's it's evident
if you can if the offense can't score, they can't win.
And this is validation of PS two's ability. So sleep
on defensive players all you want to. But all I
(27:30):
know is, and you should know this, Joe Burrow and
Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
They scored a lot of points last year. They could
stop and thse me and they didn't make the playoffs.
He's there, you go, No said five.
Speaker 3 (27:46):
Fun to watch though.
Speaker 5 (27:48):
We talked about Shaor Sanders.
Speaker 6 (27:49):
On Shiloh Sanders, the defensive Sanders brother, was ejected and
promptly cut from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this weekend after
punching a Buffalo Bill's wide receiver. Do you do you
think someone else will pick up Shilo Sanders or is
his time in the NFL done for now? And do
you think the release was a product of cutdown day,
the punch or both.
Speaker 4 (28:10):
I think it's a culmination of so many different things
you don't want to as a young player in your
NFL career with something like that. I understand, but cooler
heads have to prevail. But shallo Sanders does have some ability,
And I mean I've said this before. I wish I
could have coached him because he's a physical guy and
you can't coach that into guys.
Speaker 5 (28:29):
How do you have it or you don't.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
You just need to find tune his techniques and lo,
at least you know the aggressiveness is there, So yeah,
he will get another opportunity.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
Yeah, and he's just one of those guys that has
to harness it in. You know, you can be an
aggressive player, but you got to know where to draw
the line, and we saw that at times of Colorado
getting ejected from big games.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
So I think this was a culmination of both.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
Like you said, when you're a fringe player on an
NFL roster, they're looking for a reason to release you,
and this was that reason that just gave him an
easy reason to cut to part ways with Shiloh Sanders.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Yeah, there's the old scouting cliche.
Speaker 6 (29:02):
Scouting isn't finding players, it's eliminating players. And you do
something like that and you circle yourself as someone who
can be eliminated.
Speaker 8 (29:10):
Six.
Speaker 6 (29:13):
Brian Robinson recently traded running back from the Commanders to
the forty nine Ers, said that he believes that he
and Christian McCaffrey can form the best running back candom
in the sport this year.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Do you agree? Who do you think.
Speaker 6 (29:27):
Has the best running back candem in the league? If
you disagree, and do you expect San Francisco to have
a split backfield with these two great running backs or
do you think Robinson will kind of be buried behind
McCaffrey and only see the field an event of injury.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
No, if israel Is told us that you run well
in this type of offense, I played here for cospon
the Mike Shenahan. We had a stable looker. You just
need guys who understand that they are a complementary pieces.
They understand the offense and they know how to hit
the holy get downhill. And the question as far as
(30:03):
the best handem man, I would have to go with
the Detroit Lions and Montgomery and br Gibbs, I mean,
because they really recognize real That's not to say that
McCaffrey and Robinson can't be number one or number.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Two, because this is all roll.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
This is based on how healthy McCaffrey can actually stay And.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
That's that's the question with Christian McCaffrey. We all know
how great he is here in Colorado, like we've seen
it for decades now, but it's it's a health factor.
And I think, like you said, I think the best
running back Dandam is still in Detroit with David Montgomery
and jamieer Gibbs. I think Robinson and McCaffrey will be
right there neck and neck with him if they can
stay healthy throughout the year. And we'll have to see
(30:45):
how that Lion's offense looks without Ben Johnson now.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
That he's gone to Chicago.
Speaker 1 (30:48):
But I still have a lot of faith in the
Detroit Lions.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
And Dan Campbell in their running game.
Speaker 6 (30:54):
And then you got to watch out for the other
b Robinson too. You got Bee Shawn and Tyler als year.
That's a that's a fun Dot's a good one too.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
No sej going number one in all these fantasy drafts.
I don't know if I'm that confident.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
Well, like that used to be Christian, right every every
single year because of health concerns, you got to go
get another back. Because for me, when you look at it,
who's durable, who's gonna get a lot of touches and carries,
and you gotta say, Bijon is gonna get get more
the bulk of it over Algier.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Yo, you would think so, seekers if you're drafting number
one and your fantasy draft, I've got mine coming up
on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Who are you taking number one overall?
Speaker 6 (31:33):
You know, I think what I would do if I
were you, Grant, I'm taking Jamar Chase number one overall.
It's gonna snake back to me at the end of
round two.
Speaker 3 (31:42):
Start a round three.
Speaker 6 (31:44):
The first four quarterbacks are pretty consistently going early in
round two. Joe Burrow's pretty consistently that fifth quarterback circle back.
Get him at the end, and then you have most
unstoppable stack in the league.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
With the Joe Burrow to Jamar Chase.
Speaker 6 (31:59):
Tandem, you all going to get a good running back pick.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
And I've got both my guys, Jamar Chase and Joe
Burrow putting up a bunch of points and probably missing
the playoffs again.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Nick, thanks so much for the time tonight.
Speaker 4 (32:09):
Man.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
It's always fun sitting in here.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
With you, always a pleasure.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
I'm taking Derek Humet, Derek Henry Okay.
Speaker 3 (32:18):
Bengals are gonna have to screw with that defense, all right.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Well, that's it for us on Broncos Country tonight. Thanks
so much for listening, and we will be back tomorrow
right here on KOA eight fifty am twenty four to
one FM
