Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into It. Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin Olbright here with
(00:03):
you five six, six nine Zeros text line short show
obviously post Rockies addition, but big show today as it
was cut down day for the Denver Broncos. We did
have a few surprises in there. Overall, I don't think
that there were any shockers. The team unable to get
(00:23):
trades off for Tim Patrick and samaj p Ryan, which
is not unsurprising with the glut on the market. I
think the teams that are interested in there put out
some feelers and then just decided to kind of go
their way. But I expect both those guys to end
up on rosters sooner than later. Ahead of the deadline today,
Denver waved punter Trent and Gill, wide receivers Michael Bandy,
(00:48):
Brandon Johnson and Jalen Virgil, running back Tyler Beatty, tight
ends Hunter camp Moyer and Thomas Yasson. Guards Nick cart
Giulio and Will Sherman. Tackled demontre Jacobs, defensive end Elijah
Garcia and Matt Henningson. Henningson may have been our surprise
to some nose tangled Jordan Miller. Outside linebackers Thomas InCom
(01:08):
and DeAndre Tillman, corners Quentin Newsom and Race Taylor, safety
Tanner McAllister, and then Denver designated outside linebacker Drell Nachimi
is waived or injured, and then they released wide receivers
Tim Patrick and little Jordan Humphrey. Lill Jordan should be
back on the practice squad, as well as David Sills,
(01:29):
running backs Tom ajp Ryan, fullback Michael Burton, senter, Sam Mustafer,
guard Calvin Throckmorton, which may have been a small surprise
to some, and inside linebacker Jonas Griffith, which was probably
the biggest surprise of the day, I think to a
lot of people. Griffith was handly beat out the inside
spot by Cody Barton, but certainly provided athleticism to the
(01:50):
position that I thought that maybe they'll keep around. That
might be one they bring Brack bring back to the
practice squad as well. The Broncos also played linebacker Drew
Sanders and safety de Larain Turner Yell on the reserve
physically unable to perform list. Both players did not participate
in training camp and will be eligible to begin practicing
(02:11):
following the fourth game of the regular season. So that's
when they could be brought back. The Broncos also placed
corner de Maury Mathis on the reserve Injured Designated for
Return list. He is eligible to return to practice after
Week four. Under a new NFL rules, player eligible to
be placed directly on the IR and still return during
(02:31):
the season. Previously, they had to be on the initial
fifty three. It created a technicality and then you had
to move them to the IR after that. I liked
the way the new rule played out as as they
were able to change that and make it easier for
teams to just do that rather than have to go
through the roster logistics of releasing players and then bringing
(02:51):
them right back and trying to do handshake deals and
all that kind of stuff. So I am interested to
know what you guys think about the overall roster construction.
George Peyton thinks that it's the best fifty three to
give him a chance to win. Now, there are things
(03:11):
about it that I didn't necessarily care for. However, I
do believe that this roster can be competitive. The Denver
Broncos have done a really good job over the last
couple of years, and I've talked about this before of
taking the practice squad, the sixteen man practice squad, and
sort of making it an extension of the fifty three.
(03:34):
And so what that means is, in this particular case,
a guy like little Jordan Humphrey goes to the practice squad,
you get your three call ups, and then they'll find
a way to work you back onto the main roster
at that point, whether that be somebody else who's injured,
you know, going on ir or you know, whatever the
case may be, They've they've found a way to sort
of rotate things around and use the practice squad as
(03:56):
an extension of the fifty three. Broncos did keep all
three quarterbacks. I got a lot of pushback on that
when I when I said that, I fully expected the
team to hang on to Zach Wilson, and Jarretts did
him in addition to starter Bone Nicks. We got a
lot of a lot of pushback on that. But again,
(04:16):
they're not going to trade a guy just to trade him.
I think they like the makeup of the quarterback room.
You know, we talked about what was it yesterday? I
think how people were disingenuously framing the Jarretts did in
comments is something Jarrett was disappointed he didn't win a job,
but he's been nothing but supportive of bon Nicks and
(04:37):
the idea that he that he hasn't been is what
I call it yesterday, stupid, because that's what it is.
It's stupid, and you know it's that that's something that
if you want to get down into the dark corners
of Twitter and the lower echelons of Twitter, you get
people that make stuff like that, people who've never spoken
to anybody in the locker room and don't know, you know,
anything that's going on. That's the kind of stuff they
(04:59):
make up for engagement on social media. I think they
like that Jarrett has a year's experience in this offense
and is able to sort of communicate effectively between the
coaches and the other quarterbacks. You know, it's important to
remember Zach Wilson and bo Nicks only have a matter
(05:21):
of weeks in this offense. You know, Jared Stidham's been
around this coaching staff, most of these guys, most these
players for over a year, and so there's an element
of institutional knowledge there that I think you don't want
to give up on. And at the end of the day,
I think that's probably the smart move. Keep all three.
You know what does it hurt at this point? So
(05:43):
worst case scenario you get in the season, if you
need to deal with somebody, you can, If you need
to cut and move to the practice, what you can do,
all that kind of stuff. But for right now, it
makes the most sense to hang on to all three.
The running back room, again, no surprise if you listen
to this show, as they kept four, and they did
keep the four that we talked about, Javonte Williams Audric
(06:04):
estimate will be the you know, be the primary two
backs with Aliam McLoughlin kind of getting that Darren Sprolls
type role. And then they kept undrafted free agent Blake Watson,
and they do have plans for Watson, especially on kick return.
So not a surprise there if you if you listen
to this show out of the receiving room, I mean,
(06:27):
I think we've already been over there at the obvious
the obvious maneuver there, the Tim Patrick thing that sort
of everybody is up in arms about. Uh, I get it.
I understand Tim was a was a fan favorite, certainly
a fan favorite of mine, But this is something I
sort of warned you guys about when Sean Payton got
(06:51):
here is that he was going to cut that locker
room and you know, and and change turn the leadership over.
They were going to be thin at the wide receiver room,
paying maybe one guy. These are all things that I
told you guys for a long time. And so out
of the receiving room, they kept five guys Cortland, Josh Reynolds,
Marvin Mims, Devon Valet, and Troy Franklin again not surprised
(07:11):
to see two three receivers on the practice squad. And
little Jeorde will be among those. Brandon Johnson probably as well,
and uh and and they'll rotate that through with the
call ups and everything else. They kept nine offensive linemen.
I had projected eight, and the ninth that they kept
that surprised me was Frank Crumb. The ones that didn't
surprise is Powshowski, Forsyth and Pert uh surprising surprising no
(07:36):
one there. Uh. And they they went ahead and released
Mike Burton the fullback because as if you listen to
this show, they kept four tight ends, Adam Troutman, Greg Dulsich,
Lucas Kroll and then of course Nate Atkins, who really
is more of an h back fullback that can play
the tight end as well, and so that's that's the
reasoning behind uh that maneuver on the defense sign on
(08:00):
the defensive line. That kept six that's what we projected. However,
they kept a player that we did not project, so
it was a Rique and they released Matt Henningson. So
that was one that threw me off. But Zach Allen,
DJ Jones, John Franklin, Meyers, everybody knew they were making it.
But it's the backups that were interesting. In Jordan Jackson,
a guy who flashed last year in training camp that
(08:21):
I really liked, hung around on the practice squad last
couple of years and now makes the initial fifty three.
Malcolm Roach at the nose, not a surprise, and then
it Waza Rique makes the team, whereas Matt Henningson was released,
probably back on the practice squad. The Broncos kept four
edge rushers. Not a surprise there, Baron Browning, Nick Benito,
John Cooper, Jonah Ellis. I don't think anybody was surprised
(08:43):
by that. They kept four inside linebackers Singleton and Cody Barton.
I think everybody knew that was going to happen. But
the backups there Stern and Lavelle Bailey instead of Jonas Griffith.
Bailey had an interesting training camp and preseason and kind
of made it undeniables. He wound up staying on the
roster at the corner position. You've got Patzertan, Riley Moss,
(09:09):
and Jaquan McMillan's the starters. Everybody kind of knew that,
Levi Wallace and Treymont Smith and Chris Abrams drained Smith
making it on special team's ability largely as a guy
who plays on all the special teams unit and offers
returnability there. Demary Mathis is going to be out for
the first four weeks of the season and we'll see
(09:32):
if and when he comes back, if that changes anything
there with the corner room to safeties. The starters PJ Lock,
Brandon Jones, nobody knew that, h J. L. Skinner and
Devon Key making it Demon Key, of course, Steve Atwater's guy,
and Keeteran Smith, who made himself just uncutable with the
way that he played. Smith did a phenomenal job getting
(09:54):
turnovers in every single game. And we talk about this
on this show all the time. Where you go into
training camp in the preseason and you just go out
there and stack days and you make it. Hey, you
can't cut me today because I did this. You can't
cut me today because I did this in Keeteran Smith
is the living walking example of that. Absolutely, a guy
who you know did it was was uncutable because of
(10:18):
the plays that he kept going out and making. Riley
Dixon won the punter battle. They cut Trent Gill, will
Lutts obviously the kicker, Mitchell for Bony at the long
snapper position. We talked about the guys, some of the
guys that they have on IR the pop, you know,
Quinn Bailey, Roddy Perkins already on the IR mathis designated
for return. I R. Turner, Yell on the pop, Drew
(10:39):
Sanders on the pup, both those guys designated for return.
All three should be back by should be able to
to start practicing after week four a game four excuse me,
of the NFL season, So that that should be something
that I think at the end of the day, you know,
(11:00):
the Broncos will have to make some adjustments to the
roster at that point. But injuries happen, and that's sort
of as we talk about the practice squad rotating call
ups and that kind of stuff. How this stuff goes
five six, six, nine zeros text line. I want to
hear you guys thoughts on the roster situation. What were
the big surprises for you? It looks like everybody's mostly
stunned by Tim Patrick and Jonas Griffith. Looks like that
(11:27):
seems to be the overwhelming surprise to most of you. Guys.
Got a couple of Matt Henningson's here, But Henningson's kind of,
you know, I mean, he's a smart guy. He's kind
of just a guy. And you know, you've got some
guys that showed out. Jackson showed out in the preseason Itasrique.
They had limited exposure to him, So maybe they're keeping
him around as an as an opportunity to sort of
(11:50):
see what he can bring to the table as he
gets ramped up and comes back from his wagering suspension
by the league. But I don't I don't particularly, you know,
I don't know that he finishes the season on this team.
We'll see. That may be one of those maneuvers where
you wind up trying to see what a guy has
(12:13):
you healthy, scratch him, you bring somebody up from the
practice squad, you know, for depth during game days and
go from there. Well, we'll see how that one plays out.
No trades emerged for Tim Patrick and some magic p
Ryan not super shocking given the contract situation and because
you know vested veterans, I would not be surprised to
(12:35):
see either guy. I mean, both those guys could get
sign pretty quickly. But I also wouldn't be surprised to
see if a team waited until after a week one
to sign them, because if you if you signed them
after week one week too, then you don't have to
worry about their their contract being guaranteed for the season,
and teams like to have that sort of flexibility. So
(12:57):
I would not be surprised. I mean again, wouldn't be
surprised if they got picked up tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised.
If that's case, they'll be on a roster this season.
The question is whether or not they'll be on a
week one roster just by virtue of being vested veterans
in the NFL and where that goes. I know that
Tim Patrick had some interest from both Pittsburgh and Detroit,
(13:18):
specifically Detroit. I know that so much at p Ryan
had interest from the Cincinnati Bengals. We'll see if that's
the destinations that won, or either of those two teams
players wind up with those teams. I put out a
tweet earlier, and there were people that were thinking that
I was saying that Tim Patrick had interest from Cincinnati
(13:38):
and I was referring to p Ryan It. Maybe it
was just poor wording on my tweet. I don't know,
but that's that. Well, we've got a We've got a
squad that's ready to go now. I do believe they'll
be scanning the waivers for a couple of different positions.
I do believe they'll be looking at corners. Whether or
(13:59):
not they pick one up, I don't know, but I
do know they'll be scanning it that. I wouldn't be
surprised to see them scanning the wide receiver stuff. They
have the flexibility right now with the practice squad. I
do believe. Like I said, I do believe Little Jordan
will be on the practice squad. Brandon Johnson's up. Probably
the question is whether those guys get picked up by
other teams, although I don't imagine Little Jordan will, and
(14:25):
then you know what else you're bringing back to the
practice squad. I do believe that Matt Hennerson will be
on the practice squad. Jonas Griffith, if he wants to be,
would be on the practice squad. And then you kind
of go from there and you kind of look and
you know the way they've got this thing set up.
They kept nine offensive linemens at eight. Well, that might
(14:46):
necessitate maybe keeping one additional receiver on the practice squad
rather than offensive lineman. But we'll see, plenty of time
for all that to be built out, shakeout, see how
that stuff goes. A couple other Bronco in the news,
Royce Freeman was let go by Dallas, although I was
told to expect him back on the practice squad there
(15:07):
with the Cowboys. We'll see. I know they're working out
Dalvin Cook and we'll see if they get that thing
signed and what he has left in the tank. He
posted a video of himself working out and which he
looked like he's been keeping after it pretty well. I
don't know. I don't know what all he's got left
(15:27):
necessarily though. Programming note, we're on we're short show. We're
recorded all week this week, so there's that Thursday we
will carry the CEEU Buffs football game right here live
on KOWA. So obviously we'll be on after that, but
short show, pre recorded type shows all week this week
(15:47):
until we get back into it next week. So there's that.
If you guys have any questions, always send him on
Twitter and then that'll give me a chance to dive
into that stuff in the show for you guys as well.
Five six six nine zero is the text line. I
appreciate all the text we're getting there. I see, Brian,
there are a couple of things I want to get into.
(16:08):
We'll get into some more national coverage here on the
other side in just a few minutes. There are a
couple things I want to get into there, and then
what the outlook is for the Broncos this season. We've
paired this thing down, we've made it through camp. We've
got the initial fifty three. This in the final fifty three.
There'll be some some churn and burn with this roster
over the next two weeks, but we've got an initial
fifty three here, and that gives us something to look
(16:31):
at and see, you know, what it is we think
of this team, how they stack up. There's some guys
out there I've been asked about I'll get to that.
Here on the other side as well, you are listening
to Broncos Country Tonight right here on KOA say Am
ninety four ONEFL News Talk Sports. Welcome back to it,
(16:52):
Broncos Country Tonight. Benjamin Olibright here with you. Five six
six nine zero is the text line. Appreciate you guys.
Beat along for the ride. It is cut down day
here in Denver and the Denver Broncos have trimmed the
roster to the initial fifty three. Talked a little bit
in last segment, went over those went over those cuts
and waves. I think, like I said, the most surprising
(17:13):
was probably the Tim Patrick one, although you know, we
could have seen that coming over the last couple of weeks,
especially with VLA coming on, Jonas Griffith or maybe Matt henningson.
Some people surprised a little bit by those. You know,
both those guys figured to be back on the practice
squad if they want to be. We'll see how that goes.
A couple other Broncos around or former Broncos, I should say,
(17:35):
around the league that were let go today. Ben de
Nucci was let go. I think people remember Ben de
Nucci stay here as a quarterback, you had Royce Freeman,
who the Dallas Cowboys let go, probably bring him back
in the practice squad. Kareem Jackson was let go by
the Bills. One of the interesting one of the interesting
(17:59):
things our good buddy coach Bagatto, of course working for
the Washington Commanders now and their twenty twenty three draft
class meeting. Last year's draft class was apparently a very
very bad one. They drafted seven players in twenty twenty three.
Five of them were cut today or failed to make
(18:21):
this year's initial fifty three man roster. The five players
who were released in Washington include third round center Rockie Stromberg,
fourth round tackle Brydon Daniels, fifth round defensive end kJ Henry,
sixth round running back Chris Rodriguez, and seventh round defensive
end Andre Jones. Some of the defensive players as they
(18:42):
switched their scheme, shouldn't be a surprise, but a lot
of these were offensive guys. I mean you had a center,
you had a tackle, and you had a running back
that were all let go as well. Still on the
team from last year's draft class, our first round corner
Emmanuel Forbes and second round safety Kwon Martin. First year
general manager Adam Peeters certainly looks like he has a
(19:05):
lot of work to do there with that Commander's rosters.
They turn it over, but the Commanders be a fun,
fun team to watch this year, with Jayden and Daniels
leading the way. Former Bronco River Craig Craft was placed
on the IR by the Miami Dolphins. Odell Beckham Junior
will be opening the season on the physical unable to
Perform list, which means he'll need to miss at least
(19:25):
the first four games of the year. Craig Craft, of course,
will miss the same amount if you're going on IR
with an upper body injury. The Dolphins are left with
Tyreek Hill, Jalen Waddle, Braxton Barrios, and Malik Washington as
the Whiteouts currently on the roster, a good bet that
they'll look to to add to that as well. Other
(19:49):
cutdown Day quirks include, but are not limited to, the
Cleveland Browns keeping four quarterbacks on their initial fifty three
man roster. Why is that, well, I mean, Kevin Stefanski says,
we have four good quarterbacks. That's simply it. The question
is whether they have four on the roster on September
eighth when they host the Cowboys. But they can't speak
(20:11):
to that. All they can speak to is today. That's
twelve days away, and the Browns could still conceivably trade
or release Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson, Robinson, or Tyler Huntley
before then. In addition, of course, they have Deshaun Watson
in a make or break year there in Cleveland. I
believe they'll keep three. I believe they'll wind up keeping
(20:34):
if they can't deal Jamis. I believe they'll wind up
keeping him and Dorian tops and Robinson and let Tyler
Huntley go. But we'll we'll end up seeing, you know
how that goes. Former Bronco quarterback case Keenum went on
season ending injured reserve, so he can only return if
the Houston Texans wave him with an injury settlement and
(20:54):
then you know, bring him back. They also the Texans
received waived former Broncos defense tackle McTelvin a game, so
we'll see. We'll see in the end if he's able
to catch on anywhere. Another former Bronco the Texans released
was full back Andrew Beck. So we've got, you know,
(21:16):
several former Broncos that were on that team ultimately waived.
Chicago Bears also making some moves today. Everybody making moves
obviously to get down to a certain point, but the
Bears went ahead and waved former Broncos would be punter
corless weightman. I don't know if you guys remember him
(21:37):
being around here for a while as well. One of
the moves that that was made today that was not
a roster move that I think that is interesting and
it probably means very little the most fans, but the
NFL has made a major change to team ownership structure.
So today the NFL adopted a policy that allows for
(21:58):
private equity ownership in teams, and the initial limit is
ten percent of the franchise. Previously, teams were owned mainly
by families, with minority stakes sold to other individuals. Private
equity makes it easier to shave off slices of a
team and raise money by not relying on convincing a
really rich person to make a passive investment a football
(22:19):
franchise that they're not going to have a vote on.
Ben Fisher of the Sports Business Journal who's posted the
initial parameters of the policy, the maximum will be ten percent,
whether it's from one fund or multiple. The minimum investment
by any one fund will be three percent, so any
given fund can own pieces of up to six different team,
(22:42):
which could make for some bizarre rooting interests. The same
fund can, for example, hold a piece of the Steelers,
the Ravens, or the Cowboys, the Giants, or the Broncos
and the Raiders. You know. Theoretically, which that part of
it I didn't like. I don't really care if the
NFL allows private equity to have minority investments in football teams.
(23:02):
I do care that they allow them to have investments
in more than one team. That just seems counterproductive. At
the end of the day, We'll see how that goes.
But the league always looking to tap into whatever revenue
streams it has. A league owner and his or her
immediate family can own up to three percent of a
private equity fund that invests in NFL teams, which means that,
(23:24):
in theory, a controlling owner of a team can indirectly
own a piece of up to six other teams. Again,
something I vehemently disagree with, but given today's news, it
doesn't really matter whether I agree or disagree with. You know, whatever,
the involvement of private equity shouldn't influence the management of
team business. Again, it's a minority thing. Plenty of teams
(23:45):
have a collection of minority owners that have no voice
or vote in the running of the team. That might
not stop some funds from trying to influence decision making.
You know, a bigger fund might have more juice when
it comes to making the case to the people on
who holds the keys. But as it sits right now,
that feels like something that could have some conflict of
(24:08):
interest stuff down the line, and it bugs me. But
maybe that's not something that bothers as many of U
fans as it does me. Another former Bronco that was
let go today, Elijah Wilkinson down there in Arizona, the
offensive lineman. Wilkinson was here for a while at Guard.
(24:31):
He's been down there for the last couple of years.
Was let go today as well. The Colts waved LaQuan Treadwell.
I don't know if Treadwell, and I mean, obviously he's
not a former Bronco, but I don't know if Toybo.
People remember a lot of hype on him coming out
of coming out of college, and he got to the
Pros and just just couldn't get it going. There are
(24:55):
on the Steelers made their moves today. Not a whole
lot of big names that the Steelers released. Quez Watkins
might be one that people recognize. The wide receiver John Erates,
Plumbley the quarterback. I don't know if if people remember
him or not, But just a couple of names there.
(25:19):
The Niners placed linebacker Drake Greenlaw on the reserve and
and Elijah Mitchell on season ending I R. The Niners
still have some moves to make. They've they released offensive
lineman Ben Bartch. I don't know if people remember him,
Wide receiver Trent Taylor, Titan Logan, Thomas Corner, Rakya Sin
(25:39):
some names that that that people may recognize. There, offensive
lineman Drake Nugent as well, somebody we interviewed Kim on
the show Colorado Kid. They released him as well, though
they may bring him back to the practice squad. Was
something that we were we were intimated it may happen.
(26:01):
We talked about the Rams already h and they made
their trade of to the Titans linebacker there. You know,
I again, that was a weird situation there where they
were obviously shopping him and the word got out that
he had asked for a trade, which was not correct,
and ultimately they wind up trading him to the Titans
(26:22):
for a conditional late round draft pick. The Broncos again
the list of their cuts and waves. They waived punter
Trent and Gill, wide receiver Michael Bandy, Brandon Johnson, Jalen Virgil,
as well running back Tyler Bady, tight ends Hunter camp
Moyer and Thomas y Asman. Guards, Nick card, Julia and
Will Sherman. Tackled Demontre Jacobs. Defensive ends Elijah Garcia, Matt
(26:45):
henningson nose tackle Jordan Miller. Outside linebackers Thomas InCom and
Andrea Tillman. Corners Quentin Newsom, Reege Taylor. Taylor was somebody
that probably comes back to the practice squad. Safety Tanner McAllister,
linebacker Dreldon Jammy and was waived with an injury designation,
and then of course Tim Patrick samaj p Ryan. They
(27:06):
released little Jordan Humphrey and David Sills. Humphrey probably back
on the practice squad. Released fullback Michael Burton that may
have surprised a few people. Sanator Sam Musta for a guard,
Calvin Throckmorton and then inside linebacker Jones Griffith. That was
probably the biggest surprise I think to people based on
my timeline today, linebackers Drew Sanders and safety to learn
turn to Yell will put on the reserve pup and
(27:28):
they're gonna miss the first four weeks of the season.
Corner to Murray Math has placed on the IR but
designated a return. He would be eligible to start practicing
after week four. So again that's the Broncos cutdown list.
Looking at the commander's list, as I'm sort of pouring
over a lot of these that are out there, not
(27:50):
a whole lot of names, I think that that Broncos
fans are really gonna gonna recognize the Lions. Excuse me.
The lies of Vikings made an interesting move wait waving
safety Lewis Kine today. There were a lot of buzz
that maybe they should the Broncos should reach out there.
I don't think that's going to happen. If you weren't
able to make a safety on the Vikings, I don't
(28:10):
think you're making the team with the Broncos. Their their
their safety room is as depleted as ours is. Guard
Dalton Reisner was placed on the injured Reserve designated a
return from Minnesota, So people who keep up with with
Dalton's career up there in Minnesota, he was placed placed
on the injured reserve. The Patriots had a couple of
(28:33):
moves there that I don't think anybody was surprised by.
Bailey Zappi of course was one that was that was
let go. But they did keep three quarterbacks on the
fifty three and Jacoby Brissett, Drake May, and Joe Milton
the Raiders. Christian Wilkerson was was cut. That was one
(28:53):
I think that was cut people kind of had an
eye on. They did keep Tyreek McAllister for now, although
that could be something that changes Air Force safety. Trey
Taylor was placed on the injured reserve with the designated
to return. Of course, we've had Trey Taylor on this
show as well. They waived or released Carter Bradley and
(29:16):
Nathan Peterman, so you know, everybody wondering about that one
tight end Zac Gentry if you're looking for people with
local connections or former Broncos. I'm just trying to run
down the list here so everybody can kind of know
where everybody wound up. But the Raiders initial fifty three
wasn't very surprising. Another move that may have been surprising
(29:39):
some of the Green Bay Packers placed aj Dillon on
season ending ir He had another stinger last week and
he was awaiting test results, and he's twenty six. He
was expected to be the primary backup for Josh Jacobs
this year. Ran for six thirteen a pair of touchdowns
last year, caught twenty two passes. But in the end, no,
(30:01):
and you're gonna wind up, I think with Marshawn Lloyd
probably uh taking the bulk of the snaps as the
backup there as well. Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt, both
quarterbacks play against the Broncos in the preseason game, were waived.
So that I don't think was a huge surprise to anybody,
especially with the trade for Malik Willis that the Packers
(30:29):
did recently as well, the Cincinnati Bengals getting down there. Uh,
and that's one that if you're looking for some a J. P. Ryan,
that might be a destination for him at the end
of the day. Uh, They've had some running back depth
issues and and that might be one to keep your
(30:53):
eye on. The The Dallas Cowboys dropped four running backs
Malik Davis, Nathaniel Pete, and Snoop Connor al along with
Royce Freeman. We talked about that earlier. That leaves Zeke Elliot, Ricodoudel,
and Duke's Vaughan as the running backs on their fifty
three for now. Dalvin Cook was in town today for
for a workout, so I don't know if he ultimately
(31:16):
gets signed or not, but we'll see. The Eagles there
was a report out there that they had that they
had waived Albert Okawaebenam, but they have not. Albert Okawabinam
and wide receiver and AA Smith were both IR designated
a return guy, So Alberto for again Broncos fans of
(31:36):
Alberto still there with the Philadelphia Eagles, but obviously on
the IR designated return he can't come back until after
the fourth game of the season. There weren't too many,
I think Eagles cuts that really jumped out at you.
Just you know, there are some of these teams where
you look at them and it's just a usual suspects
(31:59):
kind of thing. You know. The Chargers cut Donald Parham,
the six foot eight tight end. A lot of that
had to do with his lack of blocking prowess. They
also waved quarterback Louis Perez, who is the spring Lea
quarterback our friend. He was with Tim Jenkins for a
little while over there at Jenkins Elite, but Luis got
(32:22):
waived as well. The only quarterback behind Justin Herbert is
Easton Stick on that roster, so they they may bring
him back on the practice squad or do something there. Also,
the Raiders former first round tackle Alex Leatherwood, they let
him go as well. Brendan Rice, the son of Jerry Rice,
(32:45):
did make the initial fifty three there for the Chargers.
So if you're looking at that roster and sort of
seeing how it shakes out, that's that's one to kind
of keep your eye on there as well. Well. Another
Tim Jenkins quarterback, p J Walker, let go by the
Seattle Seahawks. Today they only have two quarterbacks there, Gino
(33:10):
and Sam Howell, so Walker's probably back to the practice squad.
He is an immediate free agent. We talked a little
bit about Adell Beckham obviously being on the the pup
talked about case Keenum one season ending ir I wouldn't
be surprised see the Texans reach out to Ryan Tannehill
we'll see if that ends up happening there. The Niners
(33:32):
cut Robbie chosen the guy that many people believed was
the specuative placeholder for the Brandon Ayuk situation, but that
we'll see how that goes. Frank Gord Junior was let
go by the Buffalo Bills. What enough for him to
make the teams roster there as well, and then we
talked about the Ernest Jones trade to the Titans. It's
(33:54):
a the Rams get a fifth round pick in the
twenty twenty six they send Jones had a sixth round pick,
so you know, you move up around, but that's that's
a low compensation for a linebacker like that that was
as productive as as he was. And of course the
Panthers waved Terrace Marshall. That was one we wanted to
get to as well. Appreciate you guys listening Broncos Country
