Speaker 1 (00:00):
Rockies addition, Betgament all bright here with you guys, Thanks
for thanks for joining us. I've got a lot of
stuff we're gonna get to today as we're ramping up
and get ready for the start of the NFL football
season starts here just a couple of days. Tuesday Night,
looking forward to looking forward to that obviously, and then
(00:20):
the Broncos taking on the Titans here on Sunday. We'll
have all the coverage right here on KOA. Of course,
we'll also have the opening line, the betting show, the
fantasy shows, we got those starting up Sunday as well.
So we appreciate you guys joining us for all of that.
I do want to take a moment. It's not often
(00:42):
I mean, you'll hear us read stuff that we endorse here,
but it's not often. I want to take a minute
out and something that we're doing now, or that I'm
doing now. I guess I should say is that if
you want to get involved in this program, you want
me to help grow your business, I'd love to take
that opportunity and help you out with that. I would.
I could promise you whatever it is, I can find
a vehicle to help get you advertise and get your
(01:03):
name out there. But anybody that that joins up with
BCT and you know, we've done this over the years,
especially with people who throw in for our heroes, thank
you and all that kind of stuff. But anybody who
puts money into this show and wants this show to
grow and help and and be a partner in growing
their own business, we always want to shout them out.
So I want to shout out to Shane Shane O'Grady
over at Life Change Alone. They're going to be onboarding
(01:27):
here as a as a sponsor of this show for
the next a little while, and I'll get a chance
to tell you about their products. I had them explain
it to me, and I would say that this is
something that I believe in. I'm not I you know,
I've turned down endorsement deals before because it's not something
I believe in. Some medical something and you know things
like that that you know, I'm not getting into selling
(01:48):
you things I don't believe or I wouldn't use. But
what I what I would suggest that you do is
go to Life changerlan dot com and take a look
at at the product that they offer. I think it's
better for you than a lot of other loans, and
it gives you a lot more flexibility than a lot
of other loans. And so I would just suggest that
(02:09):
everybody take a look at that. I'm not going to
sit you here and to pitch you on the merits
of it today, but they're coming on board this show.
And if you need money, I would suggest that go
to life Changer loan dot com. See what they have
to offer and see if that fits your profile. See
if the flexibility that they offer by the way that
they do this isn't, you know, better for you than
(02:32):
some of the other options out there. So you guys,
that'll be enough of my rant on that for now.
A lot going on with the Broncos. The Broncos worked
out running back Deuce Vaughn today. For those you don't remember,
Vaughn was a six round draft pick of the Dallas
Cowboys back in twenty twenty three. His father worked in
the organization. He appeared in fourteen games, played one hundred
(02:54):
and thirteen snaps on offense, fifty one on special teams,
total something like fifty touches for one hundred and sixty
eight yards. Cowboys cut him last week. Broncos brought seven
players in to work out. He headlined the bunch. Of course,
Sean Payton had a similar sized guy, Darren Sproles back
in New Orleans. Vaughn's five six hundred and seventy six pounds.
(03:15):
Sprolls five six was one ninety. But you know Sprolls
obviously played for the Saints from twenty eleven to twenty thirteen.
The Broncos also worked out Terry and Davis Price, who's
a running back, wide receiver, Bryson Green tight end, Messiah
Swinson wide receiver, there Thomas wide receiver, Samori Toure, and
(03:37):
Titan Cole Turner, And they terminated the practice squad contract
of defensive back Quentin Newsom. And what I would suggest
working out Deuce Vaughn is that it suggests to me
that Julia McLoughlin is on very, very thin ice. And
the other part of that combination is the Broncos released
their Week one depth chart this week and Julia McLoughlin
(04:02):
is listed as running back four. JK. Dobbins is running
back one, R J. Harvey at two, Tyler Bedet at three,
and Jaliam McLoughlin at four. Something like I've I've been
sort of saying to people for for a while there.
I think Bedet brings more to the table, and that
Julia McLoughlin is the one that's in danger of of
of being off this roster, and bringing in a guy
like Deuce Vaughn suggests they are they are challenging that
(04:24):
a little bit. Nothing real major, I think. On the
Broncos depth chart, you know Nick's QB wan stidm QB
two already went over. The running backs. Sutton and Mims
are listed as those first string wide receivers, Franklin Bryant
listed as the backups, with Trent Sherfield listed behind them.
The offensive line left to right, Garrett Bowles, Ben Powers,
(04:46):
Luke Wadenberg Quin minus Micha mclinchey, as everybody uh noticed
the backups for that left to right, Matt Peart at
left guard, Palshowski at center, ForSight at right guard, Polshowski
at right tackle, Frank crumb h and then the tight
end room Evan Ingram listed as one out of troutman
Nate Atkins, and then Lucas Kroll listed as the the
(05:07):
last tight end on the offense. No no real surprises
or anything that sort of jumps out at you out
of that right off the bat. I would say that
there's probably some fantasy footballers that may be a little
bit upset with the you know, the R. J. Harvey
at running back to But if you've been out here,
you keep clearly seeing the JK. Dobbins was RB one.
(05:27):
How long that lasts is you know, entirely up to them,
but pretty clearly he was the guy out here and
that Harvey was was his backups. So not really much
of a surprise there as far as that kind of
stuff goes. On the defensive side, not really. I don't
think a whole lot of surprise here either. Zach Allen
(05:53):
and John Frankly Meyers the starting ends with d J.
Joneson nose tackle. The backups Jordan Jackson, was ory K
Malcolm Roach. I think knew that Savion Jones was listed
as the third team defensive end. Behind it was Rique.
Of the pass rushers, Cooper and Benito listed as the starters,
Ellis and Tillman listed as the backups, and Ke Robinson
(06:14):
listed as the backup behind them. Inside backers Drag Green Law,
Alex Singleton one and two with Justin Sternad and Karan
Reid backing them up. No surprises there. On the corner positions, Patzertan,
Riley Moss and Jay Quant mcmillion were listed as the starters.
(06:35):
Jeanne Barron was listed as the backup both to Sirtan
and to Jayquant mcmillion, with Chris Abrams Drain listed as
the backup for Riley Moss. Some people may have been
a little surprised that Baron was not named a starter,
but reality is, fans, Joseph just just does not do
that with rookies, and so it's not really much of
a surprise there, and Baron will get plenty of reps
(06:57):
as he works his way in Patzertan for the those
of you wondering when he when he got here, I
was listed as the fourth corner on the depth chart
and and ultimately worked his way up after Rod Darby
got hurt. On the safety positions, again, no real surprises
here either. Hufanga and Jones and the starters lock and
Key of the backups, and J. L. Skinner is listed
(07:19):
with the third team. So there you have it, your official,
your official, unofficial Week one depth chart is out and
so you know you guys can can bicker over that
you want. Like I said, you have the you know,
the fantasy footballers. You'll have the fantasy footballers that will
be upset about the R. J. Harvey portion of that,
(07:42):
But whatever, who cares. One of the things that I
wanted to talk to you guys about that I thought
was interesting or cool. NFL players are gonna wear the
league shield on the color of their their game jerseys
like they always do, all of them two, but for
the first time, the NFL will have the League MVP
(08:04):
and the Players of the Year where a gold shield
patch and the gold one is inspired by the NFL
Honors logo if you've ever seen it. The twenty twenty
four Honors winners were Josh Allen for MVP, Saquon Barkley
op Offensive Player of the Year, patzer Tan Defensive Player
(08:25):
of the Year, Commanders quarterback Jane Daniels got Offensive Rookie
of the Year, and Rams linebacker Jared Verst Defensive Rookie
of the Year. So all five of those players will
have gold Shield patches and will be on their five
jerseys for the entirety of the season. The NFL also
honors captains with the C you know on the jersey
and Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winners get
(08:47):
a special patch on their jerseys for the rest of
their careers. But this one is one that Broncos fans
can can get behind a little bit. Is pats Ter
Tan will have the gold the gold Shield patch on
his jersey, So that'll be that'll be interesting to look
out for if you're looking for uniform news. By the way,
there's some stuff out there about the uniforms, and I
(09:09):
would suggest not to believe any of it. At this point.
The Broncos have changed their uniform stuff several times, and
so any to include stuff you've seen from KOA or
any of its people, myself included that jersey stuff has changed.
Do not do not go with any of the stuff
that you've seen out there. Some of it's just fake.
(09:30):
But I would just I would just tell you I've
seen some stuff out there about jerseys, stay I would
stay away from that. The Broncos are not releasing their
currently not releasing their jersey stuff, and they've had to
make several changes to when they plan to wear what
So the only thing that I'm that I'm aware of
would be throwback uniforms. And those appear to be right
(09:54):
around mid season, late season for the two day, the
two weeks that I'm aware of, So we'll have you know,
we'll see as far as that kind of stuff goes.
But as of right now, what I have heard about
the uniforms and what I've seen out there does not
exactly a matchup. So there is that however you want
to however you want to roll with that. A couple
(10:18):
of the news and notes around the AFC West Chargers
running Magnologie. Harris is set to play on Friday against
the Chiefs. For those of you not where that games
obviously in Brazil. Harris was listed as a full participant
in today's practice support as he continues to recover from
that fourth of July eye injury that supposedly is held
(10:38):
him back for two months. Coach Harball has said that
Harris was cleared to play by the Chargers' medical staff,
and Harris himself insisted that the injury was superficial and
did not affect his vision. Harris is obviously his first
season with the Chargers after playing his first four years
with the Steelers top to one thousand yards each year,
and he'll split carries with first round rookie draft pick
(11:00):
Marion Hampton for the Chargers. But that'll be something to
no pun intended keep your eye on this Friday, so
something to something to watch there as well. The Saints
signed quarterback Jake Hayner to the active roster. The team
announced that they also announced the signing of Thomas de
metrov as a as a consultant, so put moving him
(11:20):
to the front office. Interesting to get a former division
rival GM in your front office. New Orleans had waived
Hayner last week. He'll be the third string QB behind
Spencer Rattler and rookie Tyler Shug. Hayner was a fourth
round pick back in twenty twenty three. He appeared in
something like eight games last year. He started one of them.
Finished the year eighteen to thirty nine two twenty six
(11:41):
a touchdown at a pick in preseason games this summer
ten of seventeen seventy eight yards interception. The Saints also
made the signing of Tommy Mallott to the practice squad
and made that official today. My lot, who was of
course the quarterback of Montana State before the Raiders drafted
him in the sixth round and moving to wide receiver.
Orleans is also listing him as a wide receiver. Obviously,
(12:02):
the Raiders let him go on the preseason, just didn't
have the space to give him the reps and everything
else that they wanted to do, But that was a
lot getting going to New Orleans was certainly interesting. Ben
Johnson is named the Bears Captain's no surprise that Caleb
Williams is one of them quarterback anymore. If a it's
(12:25):
not news of a quarterbacks at captain, it's news if
he's not one. The five permanent captors for the team
will be Kayla Williams, left guard, Joe Toney, I was
the offensive captain's defensive tackle, Grady Jarrett Sayd to Kevin Byard,
and then kicker Cayrol Santos on special teams. And then
they'll have a six player that will be honored as
a weekly captain or a captain that week. I should
(12:47):
say Williams of course, first overall pick, last year team
captain for a second consecutive season. Tooney is a Bears
captain his first season in Chicago after arriving from Kansas City.
Bayard was a captain lastie and the only other returning
captain for twenty twenty four. The Bears will do six
game day captains this year, as opposed to Mattyberflus's eight
(13:09):
last season. But again, it's it's it's sort of weird
to watch how teams hype up the fact that their
quarterback as a captain, like it's that's not news. Everybody's
quarterback is a captain. If somebody is not, that's the
time when it's news. And so that that tends to be,
you know, fascinating to watch as the the pr mechanism
(13:32):
does what it does. Ravens Buffalo Bills Sunday Night Football,
Week one, and this is the fifth time that the
last two MVPs have faced off in Week one. So
Bill's quarterback Josh Allen obviously the MVP last year, Ravens
quarterback Lamar Jackson the MVP the year before that. Last
(13:53):
year they met once in the regular season, the Ravens
won that game. Once in the playoffs, the Bills won
that game. This year, the will likely be the early
season betting favorite, probably to win the Super Bowl, and
the winning quarterback will likely be the early season betting
favorite to win another league MVP. The two most recent
(14:13):
MVPs squared off in Week one last year when the
Ravens faced Mahomes and the Chiefs. The other times that
this has happened, it's been a while. The previous two
most recent reigning MVPs playing in Week one Kurt Warner
(14:36):
and the Rams in two thousand taking on Terrell Davis
and the Broncos, so the Broncos were part of that.
Nineteen ninety eight Brett fav and the Packers against Barry
Sanders and the Lions, and then the last one you
go all the way back to nineteen eighty when Terry
Bradshaw's Steelers took on Earl Campbell's Houston Oilers. So this
will be a fairly rare occurrence, even though it happened once.
(14:58):
Recently has gotten more to the point of trying to
schedule those things recently than they used to. It makes
a lot more narrative based decisions that it used to
with regards to scheduling and things like that. A couple
of the things, and then we'll get to we'll get
around in the league here and the next we'll really
(15:19):
get around the league in the next segment, but maybe
the end of line for Robert Woods the Steelers released
him from their practice squad in Rapaport reporting that he
asked for his release and would only like to continue
his career if he's on a fifty three and playing woods.
He's thirty three years old. He was a Bill's second
round pick back in twenty thirteen. His career finally began
(15:40):
to take off in twenty seventeen, we signed with the Rams.
Sean mcgay's first year with the club led the Rams
with eighty six catches twelve hundred yards and twenty eighteen,
helped the club to his first NFC title. Caught ninety
passes at each of the next two seasons, and he
had a torn acl in practice midway through the twenty
one season. And since then he's played to Tennessee before
(16:01):
joining Houston for two years and then you know, obviously
trying out with the Steelers there as well. So one
hundred and seventy one games. It's been drafted out of
USC eight two hundred yards, thirty eight touchdowns, and he's
also rushed for five hundred and fourteen yards and five touchdowns.
So you know, just uh, I always guys at the
end of the career and stuff like that, always a
gun an eyeut I get a lot of questions about
(16:22):
Justin Simmons in relation to that, and we'll get into
that h here when we come back. You guys are
listening to Broncos Country Tonight right here on KOA. It's
a fifty a ninety four what I found News Talk
Sports Rockies edition. Appreciate you guys being along for the ride, UH.
(16:43):
Programming note. The rest of the week, I'll be on
KOI Sports, so I'll be I'll be on there with Ryan,
a little bit of Dave. Obviously he's coaching, so this
Broncos Country to Night I'll be handled by Nick, Zach
and Grant probably for the rest of the week. But
(17:04):
they do a great job, and I always appreciate those
guys filling in when I gotta I gotta step up
and fill in UH on the other shows. So looking
forward to UH, looking forward to doing that. A lot
of news and notes around the league as we get
set for the first week of the regular season. We've
(17:25):
got to it's Tuesday right now. We've got a game
coming up on Thursday. We got a game on Friday,
and then we got a course Broncos on Sunday, so
we got lots of NFL football coming up this week.
Looking forward to that. I hope you guys got your
fantasy football drafts. In one thing I will say, I
think it's I think it's fascinating because I you know,
I the fantasy footballers like to bicker with me a
little bit on on Twitter and stuff like that. I think,
(17:48):
based on some conversations I've had, I think you guys
are drafting the wrong Washington Commander's running back. There's this
whole surge in the fantasy football community for Crosskey Merritt,
And based on conversations I had, I think Chris Rodriguez
is the guy you should be drafting. But that's that's
just me. You could take that, you could leave that,
do whatever you want. But based on some conversations I
(18:12):
had think, at least early on, that's that's the one
you should be looking at. All. Right, let's get back
to this stuff. Davis Mills is set to remain with
the Texans. Multiple reports that he signed a one year
contract extension through twenty twenty six seven million fully guaranteed
next year. Mills, course is the third round pick back
(18:33):
in twenty one been with the Texans his whole career
started twenty six games, so his first two seasons before
Houston turned to CJ. Stroud, Mills remained with the club
as his backup, signing a one year extension in September
last year. Thirty eight appearances, sixty three percent passer with
sixty one yards, thirty five touchdowns, twenty five picks. Hoaston
(18:54):
compiled a five nineteen to one record, though in his
starts probably the reason he's the backup there, but keeping
continuity and keeping stability at the backup quarterback position is uh,
certainly something that they they value there in Houston, and uh,
you know, we we've seen why that can be a
big thing. Obviously there's people out there talking about Jared stidhams,
(19:14):
you know, and Sean Payton wasn't trading Jared Stidham. You know.
It's it's, uh, there is a value to having that
sort of stability in that room where the quarterbacks know
the pecking order, starter knows, you know, exactly what who
else is in the room and why they're there, and
the backups know that they're there to help prepare, you know,
(19:39):
help prepare the starter and they've got they get a
process down, you get a routine down and doing that
it makes everybody's life, you know, smoother and easier, and uh,
there's certainly, you know, certainly something to that. So anyway,
Hollywood Brown was a first participo. It was a full
participant on the first Chief's injury report. There's been several
things that people have been looking at see if he
(20:01):
was going to be available. The only receiver that did
not participate for the Chiefs was Jalen Royals, the rookie
at of Utah State and fourth round pick in this draft,
and he will not play in Friday night's opener. Another
injury that people have been tracking was Jets corner Sauce Gardner,
and he says he's on track to play. So the
(20:23):
Jets obviously taking on the Steelers helmed by Aaron Rodgers,
who was with the Jets the last two years. Gardner,
who was sidelined by a calf injury in recent practices,
was back on the field with the rest of the
team for today's workout. Told reporters that he feels ready
to go for the team's Week one home game against Pittsburgh. Now,
the Jets had backup quarterback Torod Taylor on the field
(20:44):
today Taylor had knee surgery during training camp, and head
coach Aaron Glenn said last week he expected him to
be ready to go for the opener. So good progress
for Torod Taylor. On that. Left guard John Simpson, who
had been dealing with a back injury, made it the
Trio triffect of returning players. The Jets don't issue their
first injury report of the week until tomorrow, so official
(21:05):
participation levels and all that designation and stuff will have
to wait until that comes out. But good signs, you know,
for the Jets with those with those players. I don't
know how many of you watched the debacle that was
Bill Belichick's debut at North Carolina against TCU, but the
(21:29):
win total for the Tar Heels has been revised down
to five and a half for the season. At the
sport books, the betting line for UNC, which whose next
game is Saturday night at Charlotte, has dipped from twenty
one and a half to thirteen and a half. After that,
(21:49):
un C host Richmond before traveling to Central Florida and
then comes a bye and then they get the meat
of their schedule, which is Clemson at AL Virginia at
Syracuse Stanford at Wake Duke at NC State. Not exactly
a murders row which makes up the membership in the
(22:09):
ACC at plus, but in noid call, I should win
some games. But there's work to be done, obviously, and
the Tar h Heels need to work more on fundamentals
as they prepare for each and every opponent. You know,
Bill Belichick is Bill Belichick, and the challenge becomes simplifying things,
you know, for people that it's not simple for. At
this point, so far, not so good. We'll see how
(22:30):
it goes moving forward. But no Al Belichick trying to
kind of change the tire on a moving car, as
it were. The next game is four days away, and
the hype and the balloons at the press conference, you
know at TCU appeared to be pissed. I guess it
is probably the best way to put it. At the
(22:52):
disrespect it was just it was funny. The honeymoon lasted
what one possession as tc rattled all forty one unanswered
on the way to a forty eight to fourteen win
over North Carolina. In his first game. The Tar Hills
(23:13):
did open the game with an impressive touchdown drive and
then they got absolutely overrun by the horn Frogs till
the game was out of reach. TCU pretty much put
the game away first play the second half, when Cavorian
Barnes broke a seventy five yard TV run after the
Horns were up twenty to seven at halftime and just
(23:34):
made the lead insurmountable at that point. But it's hard.
It's hard to complete a comeback when you can't complete
a pass. Geo Lopez went over two hours between completions
after his pass to Jordan's Ship on the tar Heels
first drive, and that completion came two plays before Caleb
Hoods scored the tar Heels first touchdown of the Belichick era. Lopez,
(23:59):
who was a train answer from South Alabama, did not
complete his next pass until midway through the third quarter,
and that drive didn't amount to anything either. Three plays
after he found hood for a sixteen yard game, he
fumbled when he was sacked at ball was picked up
by Devin deal In return thirty one yards for a touchdown.
It was a second defensive score of the night for
the horn Frogs. In the first half, safety Bud Clark
(24:20):
had read a pass to the flat and picked it
off for a twenty five yard pick six. Lopez left
a game with an injury after the fumble was replaced
by Max Johnson. So Johnson, who was the former A
and M and LSU quarterback, had suffered a season ending
injury a week one of last year after he opened
the year as the tar Heels starter. Belichick didn't provide
(24:43):
much information on which quarterbacks start next week. Said it's
a short week, we'll see, said he didn't know what
the availability of Lopez was and didn't want to speculate,
but just a disaster of a start. And you know,
you can't blame North Carolina fans for their excitement, but
the opener should just how far North Carolina has to
go to even be irrelevant. Belichick has preached fundamental since
(25:06):
his intro press conference, but North Carolina was anything but
fundamentally sound. There were tackling issues, drop passes, a drop
punt snap, just a honestly a disastrous performance for every
unit on that team. There's plenty of time to turn
it around. I mean, there's plenty of time for the
tar Heels to improve over the course of the season.
(25:28):
But it's clear now that simply hiring Bill Belichick and
having him coach the team wasn't going to make North
Carolina better than it was under Mac Brown, and well,
North Carolina's more attention on it. That only goes so
far if you're struggling on the field, and I think
us in here in Colorado certainly recognized that as so
(25:49):
you could talk about the twenty twenty three season the
first year that coach Prime was out here. And TCU
is a you know, is a contender in the Big Twelve.
I mean, they're not as good as the title game
team from three years ago, but it is. It is
a decent team and they could very much be in
(26:10):
the College Football Playoff this year, and we'll know where
they stand pretty quickly. They got a rivalry game against
SMU on September twentieth, Arizona State on September twenty sixth,
Case State game two weeks after that. So you know,
if TCU can be five and one or four and
two after it's six games, they could be a factor
(26:31):
overall in the in the player in the playoff race
and when when all that gets down and all of
it rounds into form later on this year. Getting back
to the NFL, the the Eagles don't want to be
known as the defending champions this year because they went
their eyes on the future rather than the past, and
their aversion to marinating in last season's success will extend
(26:55):
to this Thursday night. On Thursday, they'll be hosting the
Cowboys in the Slow traditionally given to the reigning Super
Bowl winners, and the pomp and circumstance usually include raising
a banner. This case, it would be honoring their forty
twenty two win over the Chiefs back in New Orleans
back in January. Plenty of people will be watching that moment,
but head coach Nick Sirianni said at today's press conference
(27:17):
that he and the team's players won't be part of
the crowd, saying, quote, I didn't know it was banner night.
We won't be out for that. Sirianna said this offseason,
it's an error for teams to bask in past glory,
and the decision for Thursday kind of undermines that point,
but certainly fascinating, and I feel like that's I think
(27:42):
it's more of a letdown for fans. I mean, if
fans are the ones that want to show up and
see and celebrate with those players and have that connection
with them, I get as a coach, wanting to keep
your guys focused. But at the same time, that banner
isn't for the players, It's for the fans. That's why
you put that up somewhere where the fans can see it,
you know, So that's it's I don't know if to
(28:06):
me that feels like a mistake. I understand where Nick
Steriont is coming from, but it feels like a mistake.
Something else that might be a mistake. Speaking of the Eagles,
the Tush Push has an official sponsor. On Tuesday today,
the Eagles announced that Dude Wipes is the official sponsor
(28:29):
of the team's trademark play. Not long ago, Dude Wipe
sponsored the unveiling of Cleveland's new brown helmet, the dark
emoji brown Brown. I don't even know what to say
about this one. This comes in the aftermath of, you know,
(28:52):
an aggressive straining by seven league circles to expel the
play from the rule book. But you know, in the end,
and not only did they do that, now the Eagles
are printing money off of it getting an official sponsorship.
I said that Dude Wipes has missed a sponsorship opportunity
with the the Deon Sanders porta pottio on the sidelines depends,
(29:14):
as obviously the sponsor on that thing, But dude, webs
missed the opportunity to put their name up there too,
So you know this one, I just don't even know.
This is a play they were try to get out
of the playbook and now it's got a sponsor. It's
It's funny how life changes in the NFL. Same thing
with the sports wagering. Remember they're trying to get all
that out of the NFL and then the next thing,
you know, the oh, revenue streams. Funny how that works.
(29:35):
The Bears have settled on their left tackle, a battle
that was sitting out there for a while. Head coach
Ben Johnson said at the presser that Braxton Jones will
be the starting lineup against the Vikings Monday night. Jones
was the incumbent starter at the position, but the Bear
spent time this offseasy looking at several options. Kiram Magadaji,
(29:55):
Ozzie Trapeo, and Theobenede saw time with the first team
before Jones seemed to sort of strengthen his grip on
the role in recent weeks. All three of the other
players remain on the fifty three man roster, so the
Bears don't have to stick with him if he falters early.
We'll see if he gets the opportunity to put that
put that to rest on Monday night. I mentioned earlier
(30:16):
that it's only news if the quarterback has not a captain,
and there are teams that have that. The Saints, for instance,
have eight captains for twenty twenty five, none of them
play the quarterback position. The captains are Brendan Cooks kicker,
Blake Group safety, Justin Reid, running back, Alvin Kamara, long snapper,
Zach Wood, the Mario Davis center, Eric McCoy defensive and
(30:39):
cam Jordan Rattler is the starting quarterback for now. Lashuck
is the next man up and likely to be the
next man in at some point. Expectations are quite low
for the twenty twenty five New Orleans Saints, so this
could be ugly for New Orleans, but they are a
(31:00):
team of note that does not have a captain c
at the at the quarterback position. The Bills have added
wide receiver Gave Davis to their practice squad, bringing him back.
Davis was a Bill's fourth round pick back at twenty twenty.
He spent his first season with the franchise, or four
seasons actually, but after what seemed like a breakout performance
against the Chiefs back in the twenty one postseason, you
(31:22):
just did not become a top flight receiving option. The
Jaguars signed him to a three year deal back in
March of twenty four, but he was released early in
May after this year's draft. He had twenty receptions, two
out of thirty nine yards, two touchdowns ten games last year.
Missed most of the season with the torrim meniscus and
he's still recovering from the knee injury, but they hope
he can help out the offense at some point. He
(31:44):
did have visits with the Niners, Giants, Steelers, and Saints
this offseason looking for a home. And speaking of captains,
the Miami Dolphins, the headline from the Dolphins captain voters
the player who lost his see the stories the six
who'll be wearing it. But speaking to reporters yesterday, Dolphins
(32:07):
head coach Mike McDaniel expressed enthusiasm reguarding the overall exercise, saying, quote,
I'm really excited about the whole voting process this year
in general, because each team is unique to its own
and this team I think was more unified, and the
focus on those six guys were pretty clear, so they
were resounding vote getters. I think it speaks to the team.
I think I knew the assignment a little bit more,
(32:27):
and we're focused on giving the keys the captain ship
to those who'd earned it each and every day. That's
what speaks to be the most to the football team
that knows who they want to be led by. In
the past under McDaniels, the Dolphins have had more than
six captains. Last year they had eight. Why was six
the magic number this year? Quote? I thought the disparity
between those six vote getters and everybody else, Like I said,
it was more focused. These guys were unilaterally voted for
(32:48):
then kind of stood out. There's a big gap between Naturally,
I think there's a lot of players that could do
a great job being captain, players vote for it. With
those six standing out so much, was an easy decision
to cut it there. McDaniel down played the omission of
Tyreek Hill from the resounding group, but one guy who's captain,
linebacker Jordan Brooks, said the team was soft after a
(33:09):
Thanksgiving night loss to the Packers last year. Giving him
a captaincy gives his voice even more influence as the
Dolphins try to change the culture and in turn, change
the narrative. Let's do one last one in Russell Wilson news.
Giants head coach Brian Davill declined to say whether Dart
or Jamis Winston is the team's number two quarterback during
his press conference, but the team in their unofficial depth
(33:31):
chart put Dart as the second quarterback, Winston's third. They
both declined to name a right guard on Monday, but
the depth chart showed Greg Van Roten a head of
Evan Meal, and that's how the Giants were lining up
all summer. Russell Wilson will be the starter for the
New York Giants, and it's injured. It'll be interesting to
see whether Jameis Winston or Jackson Dart could ever overtake
him this year, but there was speculation that Dart might
(33:54):
be the starter for the Giants based on some of
his preseason play. Not the case. They'll bring him along
a little bit slower and when they feel like he's ready.
