Speaker 1 (00:00):
Grant Smith back there behind the glass playing the tunes
that nobody wants to hear your favorites.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
I just I don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
How you went and got the CD booklet out of
your car during the Brad and Aad that much time,
But he didn't scramble down there, got the greatest hit
of Creed uh you know all my favorite Nickelbacks song. Yeah,
it was, it was. It was an interesting listen to, to
be sure. I didn't expect Grant and Kirk Cousins to
have this much overlap in their music.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Music tastes well, we're both just great human beings. That's yeah.
You like that you can both.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
And when people don't know about Grant, lots of Kmart,
lots of k Mart Kmart still think. I mean, that's
where Kirk gets all his clothes, right, He's got the
the Coles.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
No, it's Coles go to.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Business next up, My my, my cage Coals like that.
They have a great clothing linet. You guys got all
dollars in coal cash, Coles cash.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
I could just get him to start selling bow guys.
There you go.
Speaker 1 (00:59):
And you who's I having a bolo tight conversation with yesterday?
Your name came up. I can't anyway, whatever we got
to do an NFL six pac.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
It's time for the NFL six pass.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
I'm gonna take a lot of beer, insight and inside
information you can't find anywhere else.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
I know six the top six NFL headline.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
What Justin Fields and the New York Jets? You know
what I gotta? I gotta The New York Jets offense
impressed and the team's thirty four to thirty two lost
to Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers renowned defense.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
That day, the steel Curtain.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Fields finished sixteen for twenty two for two hundred and
eighteen yards and one touchdown passing. He added forty eight
yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
Is this a sign of things.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
To come for Justin Fields and the Jets offense or.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Do you think it's merely a week one mirage? My
guts is a week one mirage.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
I've seen fields come out hot before and then you know,
just fall off a cliff. You know, Here's what I
say about Week one offenses is that you think you
want to be careful with that sample size.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
We've seen teams come out in Week one and look
like they were they.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Were something, brand new coach, brand new coordinators, all that
kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
You don't have tape on it.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
They look like something they had the entire offseason to
prepare something for that game, and they do, and then
you get into week two and they fall flaut on
their face. So give me, give me two or three weeks.
If the end of September, Justin Fields is still putting
up this these kind of numbers, then.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
I'm willing to have that conversation.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Until then, this is too small a sample size for
anything other than confirming any other prior I ahead, man
the Justin Fields MVP speech. I hope it's a lengthy one.
Leaders in drop Pack EPA per play Lamar Jackson first,
Jordan Loved second, Josh Allen third, Justin Herbert fifth.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Then who's there at fourth place?
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Justin Fields The Future twenty twenty five NFL MVP.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
I suspect Justin Field goals will be back next week.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Guy, I suspect that you got a rookie O seed
nobody had tape on that put an entire offseason into
this game, and now has five days to put into
the next guy, speaking of field goals, two, Russell Field
goals doesn't quite have the same ring too. At the
same Russell Wilson failed to get the New York Giants
offense into the end zone a single time. He completed
(03:23):
just forty six percent of his passes. He had the
second worst drop back success rate, ahead of only the
aforementioned cam Ward, and the Commanders beat his New York
Giants twenty one to six. This Brian Dable having to
remark that Russell Wilson will remain the team's starting quarterback
for Week two.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Which always seems like the kiss of death.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
How short is Russell Wilson's leash after that poor display
against the Commander's defense? And do you think New York
will wind up being Russell Wilson's last stop?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yes to the latter question, I think the Giants are
last top for rush.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I think the leash is short, but not as short
as the media is quite making out to be. Part
of this is that offensive line he's horrendous. I mean
it's absolutely terrible. Left right. Andrew Thomas is out right now,
and I don't think they're gonna put Jackson Dart in
until he's until he's healthy. Either way, that offensive line
left to right is James Hudson third a at left tackle,
John Runny in the left guard, that John Michael Schmidts
(04:21):
at center, and man, what a bust he's been, by
the way, backed up by the Deli man Austin Schlotman,
Greg Van Roten at right guard, and Jermaine illumin Or
at the right tackle.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
And for those of you who don't remember illumin Or,
he was a.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
Third string right tackle here, which should short of tell
you sort of tell you cooling what he is. Uh.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Their backup right guard Evan Neil is uh, you know,
is hurt.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
Their rookie Marcus Mbo that they drafted can't crack the lineup,
and the guys that they have are I mean, that
line is so but I cannot stress enough how bad
that line is. With a great line, Russell Wilson could
be averaged to above average. With a terrible line. We
saw what happened and it looks it just looks bad.
If you're in the league, n I don't know how
frustrated you got to be out there, you know, trying
(05:03):
to make a chicken sal out of the chicken, you
know what, And if that's happening to you against the
Commander's pass rush, you've got to be really concerned. I mean,
their most dangerous pass rushers are thirty six year old
Von Miller and Dorence Armstrong. And I like Dren's Armstrong
a good bit, but if he was on the Broncos,
he'd be maybe in the Jona Ellis role, maybe even
(05:23):
number four off off that bench, I've got some.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
I mean, Jacob Martin's still a still a speedy little
player there.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
They've got Deatrich Wise like Jacob Martin, he's a nice contributor,
but when he was in Denver, a less talented that group,
he was the number four guy.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Like I just if that team.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
How many worse edge groups are the Giants going to
see this year? I don't think a whole lot, or
at least front fours. You know you've got Doron Payne
and Javon Kinlong leading the way now with with Jonathan
Allen out the door, I think it's gonna be rough
sledding for that offense.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
But like you said, you don't want to.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
I think what might give Russell Wilson more time as
the starter that you don't want to screw up Jackson
Dart by putting them in this bad situation too quick.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yeah, And I mean there's there's I've talked to about.
There's some real truth too.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
Maybe we would try Jackson Dart, but our offensive light
is so bad we don't want to kill our promising rookie,
you know, as far as that goes. So I don't
know Russell having up to you turn it around. That
offensive line's got to get there together. It doesn't matter
who's back there. It's just gonna look terrible. And they
have two ways to save their jobs. It's Russell Wilson
and that which will eventually look or Jackson dark looking good.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
And that's there.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
But once you go to Dart, you're giving up on
that first opportunity and you're not going back.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
You're down to one life.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
Yeah, you went right, And that's and I think that's
I think the other part that validates how bad that
offensive line is is how good Daniel Jones looked in
Indye this past week three cam scout about two carries
negative three yards on his debut. By the way, Yeah,
you guys were telling me he was like the next
coming or whatever. Where's that crowd at when I said
he was just just a guy rick Lewis, Yeah, rick
(06:57):
Rick Rick Lewis is a Camp Scatibow fan five hotmail
dot com. With the Ravens blowing a fifteen point lead
in the final minutes of last night's thrilling Sunday Night
football duel between Buffalo and Baltimore, John Harbaugh has now
blown a seventeen double digit leads as a head coach,
which is the most of any NFL head coach since
(07:18):
at least in nineteen ninety one.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
If the Ravens don't.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Reach the Super Bowl this year, should they consider looking
for a new head coach? And if not, at what
point do you think Harbaugh's job would be would deserve
to be in jeopardy?
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Well, sometimes the grass isn't greener.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
You know. The Eagles fired Andy Reid for this same problem,
blowing games late, not being able to get back to
the Super Bowl, that kind of stuff, and then they
hired Chip Kelly and we all saw what happened with that.
So the grass is not always greener when you do that.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
That said, part of it's on horball. Part of it
is part of these losses.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
I mean, you don't get fifteen point leads without being
good enough to get them. Part of this is on execution.
You know, part of this particular game, I would put
it both. You had to Derek Henry fumble. You had
to not going for it for two to put it
at seventeen. Any chance you have to make it to
up it to one more score with no failure out,
with a failure outcome, that doesn't diminish that you take it.
In that particular case, only for two would have put
(08:13):
you at at seventeen. Not getting it would have had
you at fifteen. There's no there's no failure outcome there, right,
So go and get a getting one and putting it
at sixteen didn't even make sense. And then again the
tine out usage at the end. I mean, I could
point to multiple things. If you guys want to talk
about the punt, I could make an argument for the punt.
Although I probably would have gone for it. I'm a
sixty fort he'd probably go for it there. If we've
(08:35):
got to play, especially at three yards with Lamar and
his legs, like I probably got a three yard play,
and there with Allen looking the way, he was the right.
Speaker 2 (08:41):
You know, this is the remember when Peyton Manning and
Trent Green the Chiefs Colts game back.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
There what was like oh four or five or six
somewhere in there, and they just they didn't punt after
the first series because they just kept going back and forth.
It's one of those kind of you knew it was
going to be like that. Harball is a great coach.
I mean, look at the way Baltimore with that is
a great coach. But there is something to be said
of a sample size that large that you know, some
of it's execution to players, some of it's on you.
(09:07):
Do you think it could be though? Kind of like
a John Fox situation. I know you've talked about that
with Sean Payton. A guy with one ring? Who I mean,
John Harby didn't have to turn Baltimore around. He's been
there for a very long time, but when's the ring
he keeps getting you to the playoffs. Isn't a bad
head coach by any means, but maybe at a point
you need a different guy to get you over that
final hump. I mean, the the Ravens have had all
(09:29):
this talent, They've had two almost three time MVP at quarterback,
and they've made the AFC Championship once maybe twice during
that span. Yeah, and that's that's one of those things
you got to look at after a while, you know,
great coach or coaches that made one super Bowl with
an all time great quarterback. You know, it's a problem.
Sean Payton falls into that group. So does Mike McCarthy,
(09:52):
you know, and Harbs he's been to well, he's won one.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
He's only been to the one.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
No, he puts to the one with bro against his brother.
He won one with flat Was that the one one Flack?
I thought they wonota, right, Yeah, they've only been to
one then, okay, well, yeah, if you've only.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Been to one in far that sent flairl wasn't an all.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Time great quarter but he was on like an unreal
heater that post sex where he was maybe playing to the.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Level of one even if he isn't that guy. Yeah,
both and both hardballs are great coaches.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Absolutely, there's there's no there's absolutely no uh no doubt
to that whatsoever. I mean, it'd be tough for me
to fire him just because I better have a plan
in place. You've got to have a great plan in
place to replace him. You know, you've got to have
an upgrade. You've got to have a Gary Koopiak. You
know what I mean, you've got to have somebody coming
in there that you know can get you over the
(10:43):
hump at that point. So or against Storm Duck, the
real cornerback that's not the name of a mascot, and
the Dolphins secondary Daniel Jones became the first Colts quarterback
since the afore mentioned Peyton Manning to score on every
every single first half drive. They ultimately scored on every
(11:03):
single drive of the game, all seven of the Colts
offensive possessions. Are you buying into the Colts offense as
one of the league's more potent attacks? Bor? Do you
think the Miami's Dolphins might just be historically bad or
a little bit of both.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
It's a little bit of both.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
The Miami Dolphins, this is the same team as crying
that Vic Fangio was, you know, was too it was
too hard.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
So they fired, you know, they.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Fired, and they edged him out and he, you know,
he went and won a Super Bowl with the with
the Eagles. I don't buy Miami's defense as constructed. Miami's
offense imploded all over itself. Zack Wilson was the best
quarterback on the day for that offense, at five of
eight for thirty two yards. His passer rating was twenty
points higher than to us. With that stat line, to
give you an idea that at a chan they only
(11:47):
ran him seven times. You know you can get a
chance to get that run game really really go on
the way it could or should. That offense was just
embarrassingly bad. And I think Shane Steiken's a good coach.
I've seen what he's been able to do for certain
offense just before. I think you get him a competent
quarterback and he can make it work.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
I just think Anthona Richardson wasn't that guy.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Yeahko averaged less than four yards per drop back, and
Colts offense got set up with a lot of favorable situations.
Like you said, I think it's a little bit of both.
I think this offense is probably a little better than
we expected.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
You know, the weapons are really nice.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
You've got Taylor Pittman, Warren looks like a real dude.
Josh Downs didn't do much in this game, but I
think he's maybe the best of their receivers. Eighty Mitchell
is still an interesting piece. I just I think this
Dolphins cornerback group, with Storm Duck being the best option,
I think they're they're in for a very, very long season. Yeah,
(12:40):
I mean your pass rush Judun's washed. Bradley Chubb did
get a sack in that one, but there's just that offense.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
That defense is not.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Good enough to be able to cover for an offense
playing at poorly five. Last week, Go Long's Tye Dunn
released a lengthy feature detailing dysfunction within the Chicago Bears organization,
particularly as it related to prodigal quarterback Caleb Williams, who's
tysoned up the Minnesota Viking's defense right now, What do
you make of these reports from tie Done and do
(13:13):
you believe them? And how concerned do they make you
for William's future? I mean, I I believe parts of it.
I also think that you're a large portion of that.
And I know ty Ti is a great reporter. By
the way, that ty down is a a friend I own.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
I have his book. Ohe definitely told him these things.
He's not him making stuff off. He played Mt.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Nine to eleven story for people that he's Tied Done
is a very well connected guy. He's a great reporter.
He's a good friend of mine. I talked to him
many many times throughout the years. I will say that
that particular report was heavily influenced by the previous coaching staff,
which has an.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Axe to grind.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Does that mean that the things that they said were
false now, But I would say that that's one lens
to look at it through and people that definitely have
an act to grind with that. Meanwhile, the current coaching
staff appears to have him kind of rolling a little
bit early on against a tough Minnesota Vikings defense in
a Monday night football opener here. So you know, I
(14:18):
think it's tough because you don't want to say that
he's that dude, although he has.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Been entitled throughout his threat of thing.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
I think it sheds a worse light on the Bears
general manager than it does anyone else. But you know, yeah,
the previous coaching staff that has an act to grind
ground and axe I sort of get it. Six. For
the first time since Week three of the twenty twenty
one season, which was the last season the Chiefs didn't
appear in the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs are
(14:46):
in sole possession of last place in the AFC West.
How concerned do you think Chiefs fans should be about
their team? I think there's got to be some concern,
but I think it's more on the defensive side of
the all that defense looked kind of washed, you know.
To be honest with you, I think they kept Chris
Jones one year too long. I think they probably kept
Travis Kelsey one year too long too. But that's too
(15:08):
much attrition too to just drain of attrition in the
wrong spots because you paid guys to, you know, to
keep him around. I don't think keeping Chris Jones around
was necessarily the smartest move at that dollar figure. I
don't think keeping Travis Kelsey at that dollar.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Figure was the you know, was the move that's said.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
I mean, Pat Holmes doon for two hundred and fifty
eight yards in that game, didn't throw an interception. You know,
you've also ran for a touchdown of fifty seven yards.
I think they've got to find a better way to
commit to the ground game and get their ground game
going because I think they're gonna have to protect their
defense at times this year. But I'm not I mean,
Kansas City is still a good football team with an
(15:44):
excellent head coach and a great quarterback, and I think
that that presents problems that said.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
That hold on the division might be slipping.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Yeah, I would be concerned in the sense that this
looks like the flawed A Chiefs teams of the past
two years. But those teams both made it to the
Super Bowl, and those teams won.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
The little last year was the most beatable. Kansas City's
looks as.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
My husband and the starter and they, yeah, made a
Super Bowl, went fifteen and one. There were eighteen and
one when they were trying, or eighteen and two whatever,
So we'll see, it's.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Gonna be tough. We got Rockies baseball cut up next right.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Here on k Wait, Jerry and Jack on on the call.
Speaker 2 (16:18):
Listen to k Way Snooze, Tough Sports, Dick the long Ball.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
I don't know if you ever bought with the bad,
but I know for darn ser you didn't up jump
the boogie
