Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for a pre Rockies shortened edition of Broncos
Country Tonight, Early night edition a Broncos Country Tonight. Filling
in for Ben and Nick Ferguson, it is Zach seekers
decided to talk about some Broncos Week two action, little
(00:22):
a Rockies action. Even they're chasing win number forty one,
which would tie them with the White Sox for worst
record in MLB history, they least wouldn't have sole possession
of that embarrassing mark. And you know, they win two
of these final sixteen games, they've got none of the
historics stink on them. You know, they'll still have a
(00:43):
forty two win season. That's pretty rough, But you get
to forty two, you don't own any part of history.
So that would be ideal. Looking to get the first
step in that process done tonight with their matchup against
the San Diego Padres. Also going on tonight, we've got
(01:03):
NFL Week two kicking off just a few minutes here.
That's going to be the Washington Commanders traveling up to
lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers. And
I mean, what I remember when these Thursday night football
games were the Tennessee Titans against Jacksonville Jaguars somehow seventeen
times a year. I don't know how they got that
(01:24):
through the schedulers. But now we're actually getting good games,
you know, DVOA, one of I think the more popular
advanced analytics out there has the Packers as the best
team in the league and Washington is the third best
team in the league. So, you know, depending on how
you want to frame that, you could even argue this
is inn NFC Championship preview potentially, and with Jade Daniels
(01:47):
looking as special as he does, you know, if you
have one of those quarterbacks, you've always got a fighting chance,
even if you know Washington's roster still has some shortcomings.
Like green Bay to night, you know, I think the
Micah Parsons of it. All that offense looks like, you know,
we've been talking for years about how young and talented
(02:07):
they are and can they finally get it to click?
This year, it looks like it's clicking from again, that
defense is led by Micah Parsons. I think it might
be Green Bay's year, which would keep a weird trend going.
Brett Farv when his first Super Bowl for the Packers,
when he turned to twenty seven Aaron Rodgers when his
first Super Bowl at twenty seven. Jordan Love will be
(02:30):
twenty seven this year. So I think that a little
oddity that the Packers keep having history or the the
odds I guess lineup from in this favorable way that
Bronco's Colts game should be pretty good. If Week one
is any indicator, Broncos offense looked amazing or defense I've
(02:54):
met har Broncos defense looked amazing. Offense had some up
and down I think performance to say least, and against
the Colt's defense that just completely victimized to attag of
Iola and the cult or in the Dolphins, I think
you got to worry about bo Nick's getting fooled again
by another high end defensive coordinator, you know, Denard Wilson
(03:17):
coming off that Raven's Tree. They're they're great at disguising
coverages and disguising pressures and keeping the quarterbacks guessing. Well,
that's lou Ana Rumo's specialty too. You know, he lasted
as long as he did in Cincinnati and had that
great Super Bowl run, not because the Bengals had some
amazing amount of defensive talent. They they had enough, and
then you know, lou An Rumo cooked up some diabolical
(03:40):
defensive game plans that flummised Patrick Mahomes and the like.
You know, I'm optimistic about bo Nick's outlook, but I
think it's safe to say he hasn't reached the heights
of a Mahomes or a Josh Allen or some of
the other quarterbacks we've seen befuddled by a lou An
Arumo defense. The Broncos will have health on their side
(04:05):
in this one, though. Got some injury updates today from
the Broncos coaching staff. All the Broncos participated in practice
today except for Dre Greenlaw. He remains a DNP on
the injury report, and Mike Cliss pointed this out though,
and I think it's a good point. I don't think
(04:26):
you should be too doom and gloom about Greenlaw's injury outlook,
even though he hasn't played in the preseason and now
through seemingly two weeks of the regular season, assuming nothing
dramatic changes with his health. And I get the trepidation there.
You don't want another Randy Gregory free agency situation. Totally understandable,
(04:53):
but I just I wouldn't worry too much at this point,
you know.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
One.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
I think Ben laid it out on the show during
KO Sports. They're just being very cautious, you know. They'd
rather try and gut through this first month or month
and a half of the season without green Law and
then know they have him the rest of the way,
or at least feel very confident they'll have him the
rest of the way, as opposed to, you know, turning
to him now rushing him through this quad issue. Maybe
(05:26):
it gets reaggravated, and then you're looking at being without
Dray green Law for an even longer period of time,
if not the rest of the season. And as Mike
Cliss pointed out, circle back to that, Drake Greenlaw has
not been added to IR yet. Right if the Broncos
felt he would be out of the lineup for four
(05:47):
or more weeks, they could put him on short term
i R you know, designate him to return and fill
up that roster spot, maybe with Jordan Turner or Leavel
Bailey one of these other linebackers the Broncos have. They're
notably choosing not to do that, and that should signal
I think that Greenlaw, you know, considering they did this
(06:07):
going into the season, meaning he's probably within four weeks
of return. At Week one, you'd think he's playing his
first game for the Broncos no later than Week four,
which would be a big matchup against that red hot
Cincinnati Bengals offense. So one will certainly hope the Broncos
have him back for that one, and it's going to
(06:29):
be an important one. Outside of that, though, again, Broncos
had some really great injury news today. John Franklin Meyers
missed practice yesterday with a knee injury. I think anytime
you see a player as a non participant in practice
with a knee injury, you've got to be at least
somewhat concerned. Thankfully, it seems like it's not at least
(06:56):
a major deal. He only missed the one day of
practice was back to being a full part participant today.
That bodes well for him, you know, not only playing,
but hopefully being pretty close to one hundred percent in
the Week two matchup with the Colts, which will be important.
That Colts offensive line was a lot stingier than what
we saw out of Tennessee last week. Daniel Jones was
(07:17):
only hit one time in Week one if the Broncos
are gonna change that, and I think it's important they do.
You know, this is a team that's still leaning on
their defense, leaning on their pass rush. It's important that
they have a full deck of cards with JFM healthy,
Nick Benito rolling, and the rest of the bunch. Evan
(07:40):
Ingram was also a full participant. He was limited in
practice yesterday. This also points to him being a full
player in the game. Nate Adkins, A nice development here.
He was a limited participant in practice today. That signals
that hopefully the the what was it tight rope for
(08:00):
surgery has gone well and he's recovering well from that.
He's another case like Drake Greenlaw where he wasn't put
on IR, so that maybe signifies they're expecting to him
back within these first four weeks of the season, and
he'd be a welcome addition to the Broncos offense right now.
You know, he's not the most exciting pass cutcher, but
he's probably the best blocker they have at the tight
(08:21):
end position. You talk about wanting to get the run
game going, or at least make it a little more
efficient than what we saw in that Week one display,
and I think Nate Adkins returning will definitely aid that,
you know, the Broncos are really working without that wing back,
full back type player. I guess I've got Adam Prentiss
right now, but you know, that's definitely a less exciting
(08:43):
option than Sean Bayton's gotten to work with in the
past and Denver last. Bronco's centric bit of injury news
we got today involved Alex Singleton, full participant in practice today,
but we found out he frowed make sured the same
thumb again during the week one game, fractured it at
(09:04):
a different point, says he. You know, he's expecting to play,
has been a full part, has been in practice this week,
but he might have to start wearing a cast now.
So if you see Singleton out there with the club
on Sunday, you know why. But that's pretty man. I
feel terrible for the guy. I can't imagine breaking your
thumb and then you know, just a couple of weeks later,
(09:27):
you're breaking the exact same thumb in just a ever
so slightly different place. That's got to be one of
the more tedious injuries I've ever heard of. I think
the most important injury news from this game. Though, and
I think it will have real implications on Sunday. Is
the situation developing with the Colt Stefens. Indianapolis's top two cornerbacks,
(09:53):
Charvarius Ward and Jayalen Jones both seemingly will be out
for this game. And this is a Coult secondary that
does not have a whole lot in the secondary. I
think you probably would have said ahead a week one
that the biggest roster concern with the Colts might have
(10:15):
been their corner group. And then he removed Charred Various
Ward from the mix, who's I think been a very consistent,
you know, top five to ten cornerback in the league.
You're also removing Jalen Jones out of the mix. He's
been an important rotational piece in that cornerback room for
(10:35):
the Colts. And something might be looking at a secondary
of Kenny Moore, who's very good, one of the better
nickels in the league, Cam Binehm one of the better
safeties in the league. And then outside of that, it's
Makai Blackman, a mid round corner they traded for from
the Vikings earlier this summer. Nick Cross, you know, kind
of a lower level safety, Zavian Howard, who wasn't in
(10:59):
the NFL at all last year. He did some safety
stuff for the Colts last week, but you know, he
might have to jump in at corner with how that
situation is looking right now. Colts reporters are also speculating
Jonathan Edwards, a college free agent from this year's draft,
might be you know, it's either him or Makai Blackman
are expected to be the next man up for that
(11:21):
Colts defense. And I think that's something worth considering because understandably,
the conversation coming out of Week one was the Broncos
have to run the ball more. You know, they cannot
have another display like we saw in Week one. But
now you're facing this team that doesn't have their best cornerback,
(11:43):
and then their best cornerback, by Wi Margin is maybe
missing another starting cornerback Jalen Jones was right there kind
of on the borderline of starter rotational player. And then
they're also on top of all that, seemingly missing second
year first round pick Laatu latu He. All these players
(12:05):
have not participated in practice so far this week, except
for lat two, who has a limited participant yesterday a
complete non participant today with a hamstring issue. You know
how fickle those can be. And we had James Boyd
on Kawai Sports earlier today. He signaled that Latu probably
doesn't play this week. So you'd be talking about a
Colts team without their best pass rusher, without their best corner,
(12:30):
and without another one of their you know, starting caliber corners,
and a team that doesn't have a lot of pass
rush depth. They'll be turning to Samson, Ebukam and Taekwon
Lewis to replace la Tuo assuming he is out, not
a lot of corner depth. I mean, that's just I
(12:51):
think Sean Payton won't be able to help himself. And
I also don't blame him, you know, I think you
have to be a little more consistent with the run
game than we saw in Week one. But also I mean,
don't just coach the team to win whatever narrative battle.
You know, if the Colts have a glaring weakness in
the passing game, the poke at that weakness, you know,
(13:12):
exploit it. And I think that's what we'll see the
Broncos do. The thing there is if they do go
after that weakness, and I think they should. Bo Nicks
has to protect the football. He just has to do
a better job of limiting those high leverage mistakes. Because
(13:33):
this Broncos team, it is so talented defensively that you
look at the offensive line and then the weapons and
running back group are are good enough that if bo
Nicks can just cut out the turnovers, you know, play
play a pretty conservative style of play, the Broncos are
going to glide into the playoffs. I think you look
(13:55):
at this defense against cam Ward, who I think looks
like a really good rookie quarterback. I know the numbers
aren't there, I frankly don't care. I think if you
watch that game, you saw that cam Ward was dart
impressive for a quarterback making their first ever debut in
such a hostile environment, against such a good defense, and
on fourteen possessions the Broncos hold them to twelve points.
(14:20):
They don't let him in the ends in a single time.
On five of the Titans possessions, they were moved backwards
by the Broncos defense. They overall lost yardage. That's the
same number of possessions as they had gain ten plus yards.
Five They had seven drives go for either zero yards
(14:41):
or a loss of yardage. They only had a fifty
chance of advancing the ball from their initial starting point,
with an offensive line that they've invested a lot in.
I know the Broncos massacred it, but I think that's
going to be a quality offensive line, a run game
that's at least respectable, a quarterback that looks like a
(15:04):
big hit in the first round, and we've seen how
transformational those quarterbacks can be for an overall unit. And
I know the weapons are unexciting, and Brian Callahan, you know,
seems to be way over his skis in this head
coaching gig. But I mean, it's not normal what the
Broncos did to the Titans. They did allow the Titans
(15:25):
to have a single drive of thirty five or more yards.
You know, the Titans starry with the ball in field
goal position with a chance to make it a four
point game, a four point lead over the Broncos late,
and the defense pushes him back what twenty five to
twenty seven yards to be entirely out of field goal position.
Those are the types of moments or plays that the
(15:48):
twenty fifteen defense had. Obviously they were dominant, but what
defined them more than anything was how they won games.
You look through that Broncos schedule. Week one, David Bruton
comes up with a c interception on the last defensive
play of the game. Week two, Bradley Rove has the
scoop and score touchdown. And you could do that, you know,
in the final moments to avoid overtime. You could do
that for every single week. Darn near of the Broncos
(16:11):
twenty fifteen season. And right now, I think the Broncos
on the defensive side at least deserve to be I mean,
maybe not deserve. They have to still demonstrate this over
at extended period of time, but right now they're trending
towards being right there. In the same conversation, Hey, if
(16:32):
we're not strangers the great defenses in Denver, we saw
the twenty sixteen defense. After twenty fifteen, that was an
excellent unit. Last year's defense, you know, first half of
twenty twenty two, what that defense offered. All these groups
have been in consideration for best defense in the league.
I don't think any has looked as impressive as what
(16:54):
we saw from this twenty twenty five unit yesterday. And
if they're missing some major contributors, I mean, we talked
about Drake Greenlaw they're still without Malcolm Roach for the
next several weeks. Here I mean this, I really think
this defense is special and I cannot wait to see
what they do against the Daniel Jones offense that was
(17:15):
beyond red hot this past week. Coming up next, I'll
talk more about this Broncos game. How are they going
to stop Tyler Warren? What are the keys to victory?
What do we need to see from the Broncos to
prove that they've improved on what was kind of an
ugly performance last week. All that and a little look
at the very high end quality college football slay we
(17:38):
have this weekend. Coming up next right here on KOA,
Welcome back to some more Broncos country. Tonight, it's Zach
Segers filling in for Ben Albright and joining me. It's
time to head over to the KOA Common Spirit Hell hotline,
(18:00):
where we're joined by Paul Seron of Fantasylife dot Com. Paul,
how's it going?
Speaker 3 (18:05):
H good?
Speaker 2 (18:06):
Zach, thanks for having me on tonight. Excited to doctor
fantasy football and so Broncos.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Absolutely, and it's nice here in Denver. With some positive
outlook on the offense. It feels like we can finally
talk about some of our own players in the fantasy
picture again. Who are some of your favorite Broncos for
fantasy football this year?
Speaker 3 (18:27):
One as Cortland Sutton.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
I love alpha receivers and there isn't a more alpha
receiver in the entire league than Cortland Sutton. You know,
the drop off between him down to Troy Franklin Marvin
Mims is gigantic, Like nobody else in the league has
got in my mind as much of a.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Good number one.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
And then number two is And I'm not trying to
crochet at Troy Franklin and Marvin.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
Mims, but these are guys.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Who took half as many snaps as Cortland Sutton and
saw a lot fewer targets, And so to me, Cortland
Sutton is the one a conversation. And then of course
you know Bonnicks. He he was really the only rushing
quarterback last week who didn't post a big game.
Speaker 3 (19:08):
But you know, we saw over the.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Course of the last two thirds of last year that
he can be very good and I do fully.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Expect a bounce back for Bononicks coming this week.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Well, with that in mind, I mean, this Colts defense
has been I mean, at least through one week, one
of the elite units in the league. The Broncos just
shut down the Tennessee Titans. I imagine there's some qualifiers
on that considering the offense they played. But is this
a game you'd just be trying to stay away from
from a fantasy perspective considering the defenses at play.
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Nope. I don't trust the Indie defense all that much,
I'll be honest.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
So they they posted a great game last week.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
I'm not trying to necessarily say that's the mirage. But
let's remember, Zach. Last year Week one, the New Orleans
Saints put up forty seven points against Carolina, which turned
out to be a really, really bad team, and especially defensively.
So did Indianapolis and just do the same thing to Miami,
(20:09):
another team that looks totally broken. And there's a chance
Miami is one of the three or four worst teams
in the league, And so that participant is clear to
me yet And maybe Indian's defense is going to turn
out to be better than we originally thought, and Broffins certainly.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
Looks like a will be.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
But I just feel like you got to you gotta
put an asterisk on the end of that. That's gigantic
victory that they had because.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
Miami looks like they're really bad.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
They really do, and I'm curious with them being such
a top fantasy team in recent years, if you were
a manager with Devon A Chain or Tyreek Killer Jalen
Waddle on your roster, would you be trying to sell
higher or maybe even sell low on those guys before
they're they're value creators even further, this is the time
(20:58):
to get out.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
I mean, I don't see this getting better, in part
because the Dolphins offensive line is horrible, and we knew
it was good, it was probably going to be bad.
Speaker 3 (21:08):
And again it's a one week.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Sample size, so I don't want to get too far
over my skis here, but it looked really troubling, and
that's that to me, makes you wonder whether or not
Miami's going to be able to reverse this thing. And
then you also have some of the embedded issues of Miami.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
That I don't want.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
The next sack on Tua could be as last. I
can't live like that, as Zach. I can't get up
every Sunday wondering if you know, Mike my quarterback or
the quarterback I need throwing to my receivers. Tyreek Hill,
Jalen Waddell is going to make it through the game.
So you know, I roll all that together and I
just I've got a lot. I've got a lot of
concern about Miami and I'm getting out and selling my life.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
So got value in those guys, especially.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
For Devon h Chan who got a touchdown last week
to really salvage a day that was otherwise Retty Meager.
Speaker 1 (21:57):
Joining me is Paul Arch of fantasylife dot com. Make
sure you check that out for all your fantasy insights. Paul,
you said you're not really buying the Colts defense. I
don't know if I'm buying it too much either. I
am buying this Broncos defense, though I'm also buying myself
some Tyler Warren. I thought he looked pretty great last week,
and you know, I had a position tight end where
(22:19):
you're looking for any sort of productive options you can
outside the elite guys. Would you be starting Tyler Warren
this week? Would you be starting any Indianapolis Colts this
week against this Broncos defense.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Yeah, but they're gonna come down to Earth a lot.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
So you know, Daniel Jones amazing game seven incompletions. He
was the second highest scoring fantasy quarterback last year.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
And I'm watching this Colts games back and.
Speaker 2 (22:42):
I'm saying to myself, Suddenly, the Colts have look like
they're deep at receiver Michael Pittman, Josh Downs, Alec Pearson,
and Donnie Mitchell going downfield, and then Tyler Warren. So
it's Tyler Worth's first NFL game at a notoriously difficult
position to pick up, tight end, and they're using him
like in his prime. Shannon Sharp nine targets for Tyler Warren,
(23:06):
twenty four routes run fifty two air yards. Clearly, Shane
Steiken has got total faith in Warren and he looks
like a potential Fantasy league winner.
Speaker 3 (23:15):
I'm starting him every week.
Speaker 2 (23:16):
Even against even against your defense. It just obviously very
good and will be a much much tougher row for
this whole offense. But this is Tyler Warren looks like
such a big.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Part of that offense. I'm starting him every week, including
this week.
Speaker 1 (23:29):
He's like tight end five going.
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Into this week.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
I like it. And hey, Broncos fans will know that
their linebackers have struggled to match up with tight ends
for a while now, much to their chagrin. Paul, last
one for you here and thank you so much again
for the time. Who do you think right now it's
waiverwire period? People are looking for those league winners. Who
do you think is a bit of waiver wire gold?
And who's a bit of waiver wire fools gold.
Speaker 2 (23:54):
Kayshawn Booty is the guy you want to pick up.
Speaker 3 (23:57):
Go shake your booty, dak.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
He is New England's number one wide receiver and they've
got Stefan Diggs, but Booty actually led the team in snaps,
in targets, routes, run quietly. He is really good and
if you go back to last year, it all started
to come together at the end of last year.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
He's a third year receiver. Over his last four.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Games, kaisha On Booty is toped ninety five yards in
three the last four going back to last year, and
that feel in dells me for a second. Kaisha On
Booty story's fascinating.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
He's the highest.
Speaker 2 (24:32):
Recruited high school wide receiver in the country. Could have
gone anywhere, stays home at Louisiana, has a great freshman
and sophomore year where he is getting playing time ahead
of Elik Neighbors and then runs into personal problems, injury problems,
and then he vets on LSU football and gets banned
(24:54):
from college football, had to enter the draft early.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Has struggled through two years.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
He's a twenty one years old, twenty two years old,
and it's all coming together for Kayshawn Booty now. He
is my favorite pickup of the week.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
I'm with you. He's one of the top leading receivers
since the end of last year, like you highlighted, and
a guy who has never been short on talent. I mean,
if you can be the number one receiver at LSU,
you are her ahead of the league Neighbors. You're clearly
a very very talented player.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
Absolutely, so he's a guy only roster right now unless
a five percent of fantasy league Kayshawn Booty. You love
to say his name anyways, just fun to have on
your roster you're looking to your roster going I.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Got Booty also gives you some great options for a
fantasy team name. Paul, Thank you so much for the
time tonight. Really grateful for your fantasy insight here. Thanks
Zach we'll talk to you down the road. Bobye. Thank you, Paul.
I have a great night. That was Paul charchion of
Fantasylife dot Com. Shout out to Paul, thank you very
(25:55):
much for his analysis. And now Hello Broncos Country, and
welcome back to another late night post Rockies edition of
the show, hosted by your very own Zach Segers. So
(26:17):
happy to be joining you all once again. We are
in the thick of it now, Broncos game's going on
college football Slate, heating up a whole lot to talk
about tonight. The Rockies are now very very close to
avoiding history. Need to hit that forty two win mark
(26:39):
to have no share of the worst record in MLB
history forty one and they'll be tied. They're getting very
very close as they come down the stretch of these
final now fifteen games. But first I want to talk
about an article I just dropped on the KOA Colorado
website today. Go over there and make sure you check
(27:00):
it out. Previewing the Denver Broncos week to two matchup
with the Indianapolis Colts. And I think this is a
fascinating game for a number of reasons. You know, there's
the old expression styles make fights, and you know, if
there's any truth to that, this battle between the Colts
and Broncos should be one heck of a game. The
(27:24):
Colts present a defense that really was the only defense
to have a comparable performance to the Denver Broncos in
Week one. Now, some of that was aided by Tua
having a meltdown of sorts, but the Colts defense played
really well under defensive coordinator Louis Arumo, who's one of
(27:45):
the better, I think defensive minds in the league. He
throws out a lot of complex, creative stuff for quarterbacks
and offenses to work through, and he's pretty darn good
at stumping them. I think last year in Cincinnati he
just didn't have any talent to work with. Now in Indy,
he has talent to work with, and that defense looks fierce.
(28:05):
We all know, of course, how can that Broncos defense
is right now? I'd say it's maybe the best in
the league, and we'll get into that more in a second.
But then you've got the offenses. You know, the Broncos
I think, on paper, are the better offense. They looked
really rough in Week one. Colts are a very flawed
offensive attack. Daniel Jones is a very very limited quarterback,
(28:27):
but they scored on every single offensive possession in Week one.
You know, it's just interesting which one of these teams
is more like our preseason expectations. If this game is
anything close to our preseason expectations, the Broncos should roll.
It's more like what we saw in Week one. Broncos
(28:48):
might be on upset watch here. So with that in mind,
I broke down what we need to see from the
Broncos in Week two for the team to emerge with
ab You first thing I highlighted and I think most
people will agree with me on this. They need to
establish the run early, they need to lean into that earlier,
(29:11):
and they need to stay consistent with the run game
all throughout, even when it seems like it's not working
at the best rate down to down. You have to
stick with it because that's how you get R. J.
Harvey popping a fifty yard run or JK. Dobbins popping
a twenty yard run. Without those runs, the rushing numbers
aren't overly impressive, but you can't just remove those from
(29:34):
the equation, right They're part of the equation. You just
don't get a ton of them. You know, you're rolling
the dice to try and get those explosive runs, but
you got to stick with the runs so you can
experience them. And I think, you know, as a second
element to this, we need to see r J. Harvey
get more snaps at running back. You know, I don't know,
(29:58):
I get having Tyler Bidat maybe in the rotation, or
Julia mclofflin or whoever the third man be part of
the rotation, the majority of those screen snaps or whatever
should go to RJ. Harvey. He is a good pass catcher,
and he's a much more dynamic threat with the ball
in his hands than a Bidet or a Julia McLoughlin.
(30:20):
And he's a great space player. I mean, use him
on those screens, get him out in space. I think
the concern there is, you know, he's not a pass
protecting threat in theory, but we finally saw him pass
protect in week one and he held up very very well.
So I just think you got a one commit to
the run more, but also commit to RJ. Harvey a
(30:40):
little more. He had here's a crazy set, had seventy
yards on just six carries, one of the most impressive
days of any running back in the league. In Week one,
fifty eight of those seventy came after contact. That was
the fifth highest total in the league. Again, he did
that in just six and a lot of that's being
(31:01):
bullied by the one but maybe if you go back
and watch all his touches in that game, I think
they're very impressive. Overall, I would be buying up a
ton of ur J Harvey stock. I think also use JK.
Dobbins more like. I think he's a solid back. I
think it's clear he doesn't have the juice that he
once had earlier in his career, but he's going to
(31:25):
be a steady pass protector. He's going to make the
right reads and he can, you know, keep you on schedule.
You're not looking for explosives with JK. Dobbins, You're looking
for three or four yards and I think he will
get that for the offense out of higher clip than
someone like Javonte was even able to. The other big
(31:46):
offensive point I want to talk on where we have
to see growth. Unsurprisingly bow Knicks. You know, we hit
on the Sean Payton of it all. They need to
be running the ball more. Bow Nicks had a rough,
rough debut against the Tennessee Titans defense. And on one hand,
(32:06):
you know, I think the Titans have a good defense.
I think they have a great defensive coordinator who does
an amazing job confusing quit the quarterback. But what did
we just say about lou Ana Arumo. You know, I
think he's even better at that than Deernard Wilson, and
he's working with a lot more talent. You know, if
bo Knicks plays like he did in Week one, he's
(32:26):
going to have four turnovers again at least. I mean,
this is an opportunistic defense that that's going to try
to bait you into mistakes, and you know what, We'll
see what happens this week. But I think the Broncos
defense is much more legit than the Colts offense. If
bo Nicks can just play within himself, be a game manager.
(32:50):
You know, I think everyone wants him to develop into
one of those elite guys, and that should be the hope,
that should be the demand, even but that doesn't have
to happen in week two of year two. It took
Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes a long
time to get to where they are now even if
they came out of the gates firing like it is
(33:10):
a learning process at quarterback, and again, I think there's
reasons to be optimistic that he'll continue to grow. Some
of the throws even made in Week one, I thought
were very impressive and demonstrated some elements of growth. But
he just has to play within himself. This team is
so talented in so many areas that if he just
(33:30):
doesn't make costly mistakes, like really terrible mistakes, they're going
to win a lot of games this year. They'll cruise
into the playoffs. And that's true this week. I think
the Colts are going to struggle to move the ball
on this defense. I think they're going to struggle to
consistently generate points. I think they might even give the
(33:51):
Broncos some turnovers. If bow Nicks just plays an average
bow Knicks game from last year, from the second half
of last year, the Broncos will cruise to a victory.
But if you have a turnover heavy performance and you know,
you kind of lose your brain for a bit, then
(34:12):
this game is up for graps and the Broncos are
in danger of being upset. And I think it's going
to be easier said than done, because Louis Arumo is
going to try and give him juicy looks that you know,
he's going to try and get him with a mouse trap.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
You know.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
See if he'll he'll take the cheese. And BO has
to be mature and patient about those opportunities and thoughtful.
I just in twenty fifteen and this defense, you know,
we can't say it's the twenty fifteen defense yet. I
think it's a very special unit though. And you know,
(34:52):
in twenty fifteen we saw in the leagues different now.
But if whenever they just played within themselves, you know,
and kind of just didn't Whenever Peyton Manning could just
avoid turnovers, a Bronc Coswire could just avoid turnovers, they
were nearly unbeatable. And I think it's a very similar
(35:14):
formula now for this team, except they clearly have a
higher offensive ceiling. You know, you don't have the insane
limitations that that twenty fifteen team had with Manny, that
version of Peyton Manning and Oswiler's the quarterbacks, BO can
tap into more. But that has to be more break
glass in case of emergency than the baseline. Finally, I
(35:37):
got to get into how insane this Denver Broncos defense is,
because the last thing I need to see from the
Broncos on Sunday, I need to see this defense establish
that they are a transcendent unit, that they are special.
And I use those words instead of elite or whatever,
(35:58):
because you know there's two three for elite defenses every
single year. You know, the Broncos were one of them
last year, and they could be. You know, there'll be
some teams going to be the best defense in the
league every single year, but it's not every single year
you get the twenty fifteen Broncos or the twenty seventeen
(36:19):
Jaguars or the twenty twenty three Browns. You know, these
are by the numbers, and I think, by the eye test,
all time great defenses. And I think the Broncos defense
could be that. Yes, they were playing a rookie quarterback,
but I think anyone who watched that game Sunday saw
(36:41):
cam Ward has it. That wasn't then beating up on
a bad quarterback. Cam Ward has it. And I think
Daniel Jones and this Colts offense presents less of a
threat than cam Ward did, honestly, and I would like
to see the defense just prove that, you know, even
if Daniel Jones is that the old version of Daniel Jones,
(37:01):
the pre injury version of Daniel Jones, and this Colts
offense can be a top fifteen unit this year. I
want to see the Broncos shut him down if they
are a truly special unit, not just a top three defense,
but a truly special unit that can tilt the field
in Denver's favor week in and week out and single
handedly put them in the playoff hunt, which that shouldn't
(37:23):
be the demand. That's a crazy demand. That is at
this point what I just think they are, and I
want to see them prove that to me. I want
to you know, week three and week four, it's going
to be a much tougher test with the Chargers and
the Bengals. That's when you know we'll be having this
conversation again, can they do it against the real deal quarterbacks?
(37:44):
But nonetheless, I mean, I just this defense is fun.
The pressure rate, the ability they have, I mean, Nick
Benito leading the league in pressures. You could really easily
argue that in Week one the Broncos had the best
pass rusher in football and the best coverage man in
football with Patricks ertan and that's far from the only
riches they have on that side of the ball. You know,
(38:05):
but there's a difference between being a great defense and
you know, a once every few years defense. And you know,
I think unless Bonnicks takes major strides, I think this
is still going to be a growth and development year
for him. And that's fine, But they in order to
(38:27):
get through the gauntlet that is the AFC, which again
isn't the expectation, but hey, would be nice. The only
way they get through that gauntlet with Allen and Jackson
and Mahomes and Burrow and there's some really complete rosters too,
is if this defense is not just great, but transcendent
(38:51):
and really off the bat. With this opening schedule, we're
going to get a good litmus test of that. Are
they just a team that beats up on limited quarterbacks
like a rookie cam Woard and limited talent like the
Titans have? They Can they handle a limited quarterback and
a talented offense like what the Colts have? You know?
After that, can they handle a quarterback with limited talent
(39:11):
like the Chargers? And then you go to can you
handle the juggernaut that is the Bengals offense and then
the Eagles soon after that, and I think the Broncos
are up to the task. But there's only way one
way that is to find out, and I can't wait
for I think this game this weekend should be a
good one, and I'm hoping it can just rebuild some
(39:32):
of Broncos country's confidence because I know there's there's some
anxiety bubbling up after how Week one looked really quick
before we hit a break here. I want to look
at the college slate this week, because man, it is
a good one. I think best slate of a year
(39:53):
so far. Obviously Week one at the Ohio State Texas game,
but it was a little top heavy. This one, I
think you have three very important Top twenty matchups, big
college football playoff implications. I think some some interesting storylines.
First off, you're going to have Georgia going to Tennessee.
(40:14):
That's Battle of six Verse fifteen. You know, that'll have
huge implications for the SEC Championship, huge implications for the playoff.
You know, I would expect Georgia to win that one,
but that's going to be a brutal environment. You know,
Tennessee's got a lot of turnover there dealing with. But
if they win that one, you know they'll cement themselves
(40:36):
once again as a true SEC power. You've got South Florida,
the Bulls going into Miami to take on the Hurricanes.
South Florida opening the season with a gauntlet of schedule.
They have Boise stayed in week one, they had Florida
last week, they got Miami this week, and then they're
going to have FSU next week. Just four ranked games
(41:00):
hoping the season. But they looked great against Boise State.
They want a close one against Florida in the swamp.
You know, Miami has to take them seriously. I think
they're on up so alert. I imagine they will considering
what USF has done these last two weeks. But I
think that should be a sneaky great game. USFS quarterback,
(41:20):
by the way, has some pretty crazy physical tools. And
then the last one, I think the game of the
weekend Texas A and M at Notre Dame. This is
a must win for Notre Dame, and I mean to
a lesser extent an M. But if Notre Dame loses
this one, that's a lost to Miami. Ranked team lost
(41:42):
to A and M. Another ranked team. They're going to
be at zero to two, and you look at the
remaining schedule. I mean, they've got a lot of Power
five teams, but their best remaining game left is maybe Arkansas,
you maybe. I mean, I don't think it'd be Boise State,
but yeah, Arkansas USC maybe. But it's a it's not
(42:06):
an overly impressive schedule after this A and M game,
you know. And that's been a debate with Notre Dame
in the playoff in the past, more so when it
was a smaller format. But you know, hey, they had
a fairly weak schedule. Do they belong in even if
they're undefeated or a one loss team. If they're a
two loss team and their two losses are to the
(42:27):
only ranked opponents they saw all year, I mean, those
final ten games will have to be wildly impressive for
Notre Dame to sneak into the playoff. And then, of
course you've got the Colorado Buffaloes and Ryan stob making
his starting debut against the Houston Cougars Tomorrow. Night Coverage
will start on KOA at three thirty. Kickoff is at
(42:51):
five thirty of a little post game after the game,
so stay tuned for that. Come on next, we'll get
a little more in to that Ryan Stop game and
a little more discussion about the Broncos big matchup with
the Colts this weekend too. Coming up next right here
on KOA
