Speaker 1 (00:00):
Banned Grants from playing horrifying music as we uh we
end the segment on the Broncos loss.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
My god, man, I.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
Spent half of that half of that break just trying
to get the depression out from.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
A lot of Broncos. Country is depressed today. Oh it
was awful and Bengals that is that is true? Five
six six nine zero is the text line. You guys
want to get involved in the conversation.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
Uh you Tampa Bay Bucks beat the uh Houston Texans
last second Baker Mayfield drove down, got the touchdown. One
of the best tweets of the day is it will
never be It will never not be funny that Baker
Mayfield is referred to as a comeback story when the
thing he came back from was being a Cleveland Brown.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Ridiculous. I love it.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
We're gonna have to give me comsbel hotline though, and
bring out our friend from CBS Roby bing Rome. How
you doing to see me?
Speaker 4 (00:53):
You know what I'm doing?
Speaker 5 (00:54):
Pretty good?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
That was a good one. Yeah, we had You know
what coming back from the Browns is. It really is
a real comeback.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
Story, true true comeback story, and you know our hearts
go out to anyone who's had to end door such
tragedy before.
Speaker 2 (01:07):
As we look at the heartbreaker.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
Of a game yesterday and for to end the way
it was, there, weren't some positives takeaway The offense starts
to look a little bit better in that game. The
certain injury turned out not to be as brutal as
perhaps it could have been initially. But in the end,
it's a hard loss against the team that really kind of.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Had our number.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
I mean, I think going into this game was interesting
because I think a lot of people were just like,
are the Colts really good? Is Miami just terrible? Which
Miami is terrible, you know, and so it kind of
felt like, oh, okay. I think it was a bit
surprising how much they were able to do on Denver's defense,
in terms of yardage, in terms of on the ground especially.
(01:52):
I guess big picture, I would say the positive from
that is that was a true bed don't break. I mean,
the fact that the Colts didn't punt once and you
got twenty six points. It could have been a lot
worse than that. So if you if we're going glass
half fal I would take that aspect of it. But
I think run defense there's still some concerns there. I
think I think you need to get Drake Greenlaw back.
(02:12):
I think, you know, I feel like they're you know,
offenses are kind of hunting, you know, Alex Single and
Singleton and coverage a little bit. There. You get a
guy like Dray green Lighting that can change things. But
if you go on the offensive side and say you
got the commitment.
Speaker 6 (02:26):
To the run, especially that first drive, I mean that.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
First drive is like chef's kiss, let's go. We're committing
to the run. We saw what JK. Dobbins can bring.
So those those some really positive. I feel like my
big question mark guys is Evan Ingram. I mean, he's
been out there, paid this guy with twenty three mil,
two year, twenty three million, and he's somebody put it
out there. I think thirty eight percent of the snaps.
(02:48):
That has just been really surprising to me. His lack
of involvement, and I think we all went to the
season thinking he was going to be such a massive weapon.
I'm curious to see how that develops, if it developed,
because that's been surprising.
Speaker 7 (03:01):
I think you know what ROMEI you know, I don't
know if you know the answer to this but Ben
and I have been discussing it, and that's been one
of the bigger issues for me because we heard all
this offseason, this whole joker talk. But that's Ben earlier
when we were on with Steve Atwater that it seem
as though Evan Ingram, if he was a joker, he's
been locked up in Arkham and Batman has really put
(03:23):
him on ice.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I mean, what do you think is the reason?
Speaker 7 (03:26):
Because I know, you know, I don't take everything fans
say on social media because I know the game a
lot better than them. But there's a lot of talk
that maybe there's something internally that's going on and why
Evan Ingram's is not being more utilized in the skill
set and the team is referring to Adam Truttman and
Lucas Crawl.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
What do you think, Yeah, I mean, I think it's
easy to draw that conclusion just because it doesn't seem
to make a lot of sense. There was, as you mentioned,
all of this conversation about the Joker and what they
were going to do and how much you've going to
bring to this offense and how dynamic he is going
to be, you know, especially in between the numbers and then,
(04:06):
you know, and it seemed like in camp there was
a lot of connection between Bo and Evan and then
just just kind of really he's been a ghost. I know,
obviously kind of hurt himself a little bit there in
that first game, So perhaps that factored in. I'm not
quite sure, but I think it's natural to start drawing
the conclusion that maybe something's going on internally. But from
what we know about Evan Ingram, it seems like a
(04:28):
great guy. Seems like a locker room really likes him.
It doesn't seem like a guy that would cause internal strife,
you know, So I really don't know. It's it's absolutely
puzzling to me.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Bottom falls out for the Broncos defense in this one
a Shane Stich and really kind of had the Broncos
numbers that you know, they had a good offensive line there,
they got some good players.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
The goals could really be a factor this year.
Speaker 4 (04:52):
Yeah, I mean again, like I just kind of feel
like I discounted them a little bit after Week one
just because of the dumpster fire that Miami is and
it's really not I mean, and you want to talk
about a comeback story, I guess Danny Dimes, right, making
the comeback out of New York. That could be along
with Baker Mayfield, he sits in the comeback story as well.
But I mean Shane's second, it's not surprising with what
(05:15):
he's done with other quarterbacks, just and Herbert, you know,
and Jalen Hurts even But like, it's impressive what the
Colts have there. They got a lot of pieces, and
Jonathan Taylor, truly when healthy, is one of the best
in the league. So I think this is a team
that has a lot more pieces then I gave them
(05:35):
credit for in Week one.
Speaker 6 (05:36):
I'll tell you that they definitely definitely gonna.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Win their division and see what else they can do well.
Speaker 7 (05:42):
Romie, I can't let you leave without asking you this
question because it's been a huge topic of conversation ever
since the game and it yesterday, the field goal.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
What are your aspects of it? What do you think?
What was your vantage point?
Speaker 7 (05:59):
Because everyone had as somewhat of an opinion on this
particular play, So I'll let you speak your piece about it.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I mean, my biggest thing is why are you doing
that on a sixty yarder? Especially a guys who've never
made a sixty yarder like I understand the concept of
when you're trying to but that's what you do when
it's a chip shop field goal, right when you're twenty
five to thirty five yards out. There was no reason,
in my opinion, to do that from sixty out, and
as we saw he was going to miss it, most
(06:27):
likely he probably wasn't gonna make it, and I mean,
shames I can play. Calling on that final drive was unbelievable.
It was I mean, he was calling the game as
if they were in chip shot range, right. It was
unbelievable to me that that that was what he chose
to call. So then for the Broncos to do that,
it's just it's just brutal. It feels like you gave
(06:47):
the game away. I just felt that's something you do
when it's a close thing, not for sixty yarders. Let
the guy kick it because you're probably going to miss it,
and he would have missed it.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, you know, I was Nick and I were sitting
there watching the game together and I was like, why
didn't Shane Steiken call time out at thirty nine seconds
left instead of eighteen?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
And then we're on a play action play on second
down to try to.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Get a little closer, but you know, anyway, it was
just one of those interesting football kind of strategy moments.
As we were looking at that, I want to turn
my attention a little bit to the game this past weekend,
See You taking on Houston and Ryan Stogg gets a start.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
I thought he did admirable in that game.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
He did have the two interceptions, but I thought he
did admirable for a first start. It didn't look didn't
look terrible, but it looks like that there's there's some
pretty needed improvement.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
As we look at this thing, and as we look at.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
What see you is now is the third year coach
prime and now we're in the post Shadoor Travis Hunter era.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
You know, this really is on this staff to.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Prove vacant coach rather than just bringing along two guys
that were you know that were one was a Heisman winner.
You know, is this is this what we can expect
this year? Is this team going to be this you know,
this bad this year? Is this what the program is?
I mean, Primes?
Speaker 2 (07:55):
What ten and fourteen against P four schools?
Speaker 7 (07:58):
Is this?
Speaker 1 (07:58):
How can we get this thing turned? We've resurrected this
thing from it being nascent and dead. But we're staggeringly
mediocre at this point.
Speaker 6 (08:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
I think that the problem is this team has all
the same problems that it had last year. However, last
year you had Shador Sanders and Travis Hunter that I
think covered up a ton of warks and covered up
a ton of problems. And you had Lejohonte, and you
had Jimmy I mean, you had a lot of playmakers,
you know, and even a guy like cam Siman Craig,
(08:27):
who you know, maybe isn't going to make it in
the league, but he was a great college player. I
mean he played his tailofted. You just lost playmakers across
the board, and I think going into this season, the
expectation was and what was kind of said was that
the team is a lot deeper, right because they lost
all of those big pieces. But you know, the run defense,
I mean, it's like swist cheese out there. They've got
(08:48):
tackling issues on defense, the run game. There's still not
a firm commitment to the run game. The offensive line
is bigger, But are they better. They're a little better
than last year, but not as better as we thought
they were going to be. I mean, in the trenches,
it's kind of Oh my gosh, how many things have
I just listed?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
Guys.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
There's a lot of issues with this football team, and
the question is, how do you fix that in season?
How do you fix that week to week? You know,
I think defensively, they're really getting bullied up front. These
are just these are big issues that I'm not sure
if there is a solution mid season, you know, unless
it kind of starts to come together and you can
kind of work on some of those tackling issues and whatnot.
(09:27):
But I think overall, everybody wants to kind of reign
on Ryan's dobb and oh my gosh, how could you
play him? But I think there's so many things beyond
that that. This football team just has a lot of holes.
And again, it seems like a lot of the issues
we saw in the last two years they were just
masked a lot, and now there's nobody to mask them.
Speaker 7 (09:46):
You know, Romie, the biggest thing that troubles me about
seeing you right now is, you know, obviously figuring out
a quarterback situation.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
But I thought during.
Speaker 7 (09:55):
That game against Houston that I guess I was wondering
when was coach prom going to go to his bullpen
and get Kiden Saltz because it was clear that Ryan
Stopp was having some of his issues. Now, do you
think because we don't, we really don't know, We can't.
We can just guess what coach Prom's going to do
this week as far as the starting quarterback, do you
(10:16):
think it would be the right move to go with
Ryan Stop again, I guess Wyoming or go back to
Kaiden Salter.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
I mean, I think it's been interesting to hearing everyone's
kind of opinions on it, and I think the public
really wants Juju to play. I person don't really feel
like Juju's ready, you know, to really take over. But
I understand why people would say, you know, forget it,
punt on the seat and just let Juju grow. But
I think this is interesting. I think at this point,
(10:46):
Ryan Stopp did really struggle. You're going against Wyoming, So
I guess if you want to give Stop another go,
that's this is not a bad game to kind of
go and see if he can settle in a little
bit better, if he can improve a little bit more.
You know. But the one thing with the Cayden Salter
is that nothing else he can use his leg. He's
really not a super accurate quarterback, especially on the run.
(11:08):
So I don't think I don't think anyone is a.
Speaker 6 (11:12):
Great answer, if I have to be honest, But.
Speaker 4 (11:14):
I think Salter's steady. He's got that.
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Veteran, you know, kind of leadership in it.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
He's been there, done that, So that would be that
would be not a bad move. But I between Sob
and Palter, I don't neither one like screams and me like,
oh my gosh, we have such a better chance.
Speaker 2 (11:31):
With this guy.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
So I think at the end of the day, you
got to go with who the locker room believes in
the most, or who the locker room feels the best behind.
And I think we on the outside don't necessarily know
who that is, but that's who I would go with,
the one that the players feel like they can win
the most with, because I don't think one stands out
so much more extraordinarily above the other.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Yeah, I asked this knowing what the answer is in
my mind. But I'll put you a bit on the
spot here. Does the shoe Buffs have a Pat Shermer problem?
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Did the Broncos have a Pat Shirmer problem?
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Yes? Oh absolutely, and emphatically.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Did you know there are so many times where I'm
watching this and I'm like, I've seen this before. I've
seen this before, really, and I think that you know,
Pat Schimmer's prostyle offense is a great fit for Sudor
and especially with you know, Sugar going into the league.
I just think with this personnel, and especially like someone
like Kayden Salter, who is just a college quarterback, it
(12:32):
feels like a mismatch in a lot of ways. So
aside from everything else, I think personnel wise, there's a
mismatch this year as well.
Speaker 7 (12:40):
Well, Okay, so you just fill the cup for one
Benjamin off Bright because he is not a Pat Shermer
fan at all. But here's what I would say, and
you tell me what you think about it, because in
any given a situation, whether we're talking about Broncos, are
we talking about the Buffs, or we're talking about high
school football here in the local area, as a coach,
you can only do so much and it comes down
(13:03):
to playmakers. Now you mentioned earlier about all the wide
receiver playmakers and Travis Hunter and Shador When we look
at this roster and even with so many guys in
the transfer portal back that's come.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
Over named me. The playmakers.
Speaker 7 (13:16):
I mean, do they really have the playmakers offensively to
be effective every single week?
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Do you think that?
Speaker 4 (13:23):
You know, I think that's fair.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
Like I think I actually did have.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Pat Schummer on the show last year, and he was
just I mean, he was happy as a clam just
talking about, you know, with Shador and Travis and how
those two were just changing his plays even all the time.
And he was totally okay with it because he had
these playmakers that they could really play around with. I
think there are playmakers they like a Draylen Miller, you know,
it feels like he's been underutilized and I'm not sure why.
(13:48):
That was the guy that we were really excited about.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
Amarrian Miller's he's kind of struggling with injury right now.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
But that's another guy. So I think in terms of
the wide receiver room, they do have playmakers. They just
aren't see to be utilized. I don't know if that's
not utilized correctly. I don't know if that's an execution
thing and not a coaching thing, right, they could be that.
So I do think they have they don't have the
playmakers they had last year, but they do have.
Speaker 6 (14:12):
Playmakers on that on that.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
Offense and we're just not really seeing any of them
pop off.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
ROMI real quick last one here as Broncos look forward to,
you know, to the next game. You know what, what
do you think is more important getting the offense to
continue what they did against the Colts, get the defense
back on track from week one?
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Or do we just need to play a complete game
of football?
Speaker 4 (14:37):
You know what? It's option see. I think what we saw,
you know, in both a Tennessee game and in the
Indianapolis game was like one half of really good football,
and so we need to see the complete game, which
we have yet to see yet. And the Chargers are
a team that I think have a really good chance
of winning the division. So this is a team that
they beat the Broncos twice last year, they were both
one score games. To get a win in this one
(14:59):
would be SIGNI. I can certainly, especially with the road ahead,
get a little break with the Bengals, But then you
go see the Eagles and you want to be in
a good spot. You'd like to have a winning record
when you head out to London. So I think playing
a complete game is certainly the biggest thing. Have a
great game against Herbert. That's really good for the defense,
a good way to bounce back.
Speaker 6 (15:18):
But I think we're really eyeing offensively.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
To build off of the first half of the Colts game.
So now we need that full full sixty minutes. Big
cliche we'd like to say, but complete games what I'd
like to see.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Well, you gave us a full segment here. We certainly
appreciate it as always. Look forward to talking to you
again soon.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
Hi. You guys are the best.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Well that's you.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
We'll take second best though, Robby Bean from CBS. We
come back the NFL six page. Don the NFL six packs.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Time for the NFL six pad. I'm going to drink
a lot of beer.
Speaker 4 (15:51):
Insight and insight information you can't find anywhere else. No.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Six the top six NFL headline One.
Speaker 1 (16:00):
Roncos head coach Sawn Peyton had no issue with the
officiating call that helps send his team to a loss
on Sunday. He does have thoughts about the play call
the Broncos mate on the play, linebacker Andrea Tilman flag
for leverage on a sixty yard game winning field goal attempt.
The Colts kicker Spencer Straighter missed, and the fifteen yard
penalty moved and close enough make the second try. Peyton
said on Monday that the team ran the field goal
(16:20):
block they have installed for end of game situations and
wishes he had called it off given the length of
the kick, saying, quote, we had a certain field goal
block the event of a game winning field goal, that's
on me in that situation.
Speaker 2 (16:31):
Peyton said it via Jeff Lagwallo VESPN dot com.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
It's not on special teams coach Darren Rizzy, it's not
on Tillman. A sixty yard field goal attempt is different.
The alignment got wrong and the officials call was correct.
Hayton's alignment reference was to Tilman and defensive end Hujaza
Rique swapping spots on the line, but added that the
team's failure to call a normal interior rush was the
biggest reason for what went wrong the end of the
(16:54):
twenty nine twenty eight loss.
Speaker 7 (16:56):
Hey Man much respect for coach Peyton kind of taking
that one on the chin and saying, hey, listen, that
was on him.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
But it can't happen.
Speaker 7 (17:06):
You can't put your team in that particular situation.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
And there's a lot of.
Speaker 7 (17:10):
Things that go into a given game, especially in pressure situations,
but I'm sure that's one he's gonna want that, especially
as we look down the road to where the Broncos schedule.
It's about to get really difficult, and you don't want
to be in a situation at the end of the
season saying, had we won that game against the Colts,
(17:31):
we get into the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
Two.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
The NFL tried to keep quarterbacks healthy because quarterbacks make
the game go.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
In two weeks, things are going the wrong way.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Five starting quarterbacks are currently injured forty nine Ers quarterback
Brock Party emergeek one with a toe injury, and.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Then Sunday, four other quarterbacks were injured.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
Commanders quarterback Jay and Daniels has a knee issue, Angles
QB Joe Burrow's got the toe and the torn ligaments,
Jets quarterback Justin Fields has a concussion, and Viking's quarterback
McCarthy has an ankle issue. Bill's quarterback Josh Allen also
got busted in the nose, but he wasn't listed on
Monday's injury report in advance of his Thursday night game
against the Dolphins. Last year, only two quarterbacks were injured
(18:12):
in the early weeks of the season. Jordan love with
the knee and Dolphins quarterback to a tug about low
with a concussion. Baker Mayfield grab his left knee if
going to the ground in the first half, but he
missed no time.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
Are we just seeing as this random and happens dance?
Speaker 1 (18:23):
Are we seeing a sudden spate of injuries on quarterbacks
the league is bound to address with even more non contact.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Of the quarterback rules this offseason.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
How can you address this with more quarterback rules? Because
at the end of the day, this is called football,
and when you run, you fall down and other people
hits you. So unless you want to turn it into
flag football, I don't know what other rule adjustment's been
the league can actually make to make the players healthy,
other than saying we're gonna add or put in a
(18:52):
rule where we can add four quarterbacks to the roster
instead of three.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Maybe Also, if you touch a quarterback it's an automatic
fifth d yard penalty and your team loses twenty points.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
At this point, what else are you gonna do? I
don't even know where to do it at this point.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
But three, we all seen.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Bo Nicks and Sean Payton go at it.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
We saw that viral video last year of course, there
was another incident this pass game where they started wolf
fitting each other.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Now others got in on the act.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
A video from Sunday's Jaguars loss to the Bengals went viral.
Head coach Liam Cohen said today there's no problem between
him and Trevor Lawrence. Video showed Cohen animatedly gesturing toward
his body after Lawrence sailed to pass hide a wide
receiver do got me Brown at the end zone of
the fourth quarter. Lawrence waved off the coach from the
field before moving.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
On to the next play.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Neither player made a big deal about the exchange after
the game, and Cohen said, all's well. When it comes
to our relationship quote it, it gets made into a thing. Obviously,
in this rat poison world we live in, it's an
emotional games, competitive game. We're all competitive. We're all emotional.
I can control mine better. He was just telling me
to move on. He wasn't telling me to go screw myself.
He was just saying, dude, move on. Lawrence completed fifty
eight point nine percent of his passes and his four
(19:57):
touchdowns to three picks through two games playing him calling
so far. What do you think about quarterbacks and head
coaches arguing on the television.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
I am okay with it because when someone has a
strong competitive drive and you get two alpha males, they
are trying to position themselves for some form of dominance
and words are change because we want to win. I'd
rather see a guy be that fiery than not fiery
at all. And obviously, you know public displays of when
(20:26):
guys are not in agreement, you don't really want to
see it.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
But to me, for me as a former player, I
like to see it.
Speaker 7 (20:33):
I like to know that my quarterback gives to Nicholas
about a situation and he's just not gonna let the
head coach off as a coordinator just talk to.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Him in certain ways.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
Yeah, I think you and I saw Bo and Sean
get into it again in the Colts game, and I
was like, you know, this reminds me of Rich Cannon
and John Gruden back in the day, you know, wolfing
at each other.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
Dirty game.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
You knew, but you knew what it was as far
as that kind of stuff goes. See, Yeah, not a
not a big thing.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Or Cowboys officially signed j Davian Clowney, veteran edge rusher,
doesn't feel like he needs much time to get ready
to start contributing to the defense. Clowney has not practiced
with the Cowboys at this point, but he did note
that he signed with the Titans back in September twenty
twenty and played in their season opener later that week.
Speaker 2 (21:10):
Said quote, I do expect to play.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
I don't know the snap count via Clarence Hill of
All City Dallas.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
That's up to the coaches.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
I walked into Tennessee in Week one, played forty snaps
in Denver. It's nothing new to me. It's football. Just
go out there to be physical, play a game. Cowboys
have three sacks and eleven quarterback hits through the first
two weeks of the season. If the signing works out
as hoped, Cloinne wild boost those numbers over the final
fifteen games.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Of the schedule. When we think about Dallas signing Genevian Clowney.
Speaker 7 (21:33):
Well, first of all, I think that was a fallacy
in the last part of which.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
He said that he's going to boost their hoping the holding. See.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
To me, this is very entertaining because this is just
another way that Jerey Jones can try to tell himself
that Michael Parson didn't matter. It's almost like as a
breakup can you go out and you know, you may
get toasted and then you see this first person.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
That you know the bar and you go home and
then it's just.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Like, yeah, that made me feel a get better about
my eggs.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
No, I didn't. That just the best.
Speaker 7 (22:06):
That's just filling the gap. Just a bridge player, like
you said.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
In football. So that's all this situation is for today.
Speaker 7 (22:11):
Being Clowney, He's not gonna go in and change a
lot about what the cowboy's doing, either defensively or offensive line.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Yeah, okay, I just I looked at this and I'm like, okay,
this is another body. But I don't know, Like Javi
clown is not really like he's not noted as a
pass rusher. That's not really his thing. He's more of
a you know, a run contained guy who gets a
little you know, gets a little bit of push, you know,
as far as that stuff goes, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Here he is searching man five.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Tom Brady is unretiring, at least temporarily. Saudi Arabia has
inevitably got in on football then, beginning to a March
twenty six flag football tournament, headlined by you guessed It's
Tom Brady during Fox NFL Sunday Brady t'sday. Great announcement
to come on Monday, and the announcement is that Brady
(23:00):
will headline a flag football Classic that will consist of
a three team round robin tournament to be televised by Fox.
Speaker 2 (23:07):
Whether that counts as a great announcement, I guess is
in the eye of the polder.
Speaker 1 (23:10):
Other players per the announcement will include Saquon Barkley, Ceedee Lamb,
Christian McCaffrey, Sauce Gardner, Miles Garrett, brock Bauers, Max Crosby,
Tyreek Hill, Odell Beckham Junior, and Rob Gronkowski, who apparently
is actually playing in this in between I guess you know,
playing for mythologically for the Broncos, along with quote stars
across sports and entertainment. Serving as coaches will be Pete Carroll,
(23:33):
Kyle Shanahan, and Sean Payton.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Technically, the teams employing any active.
Speaker 1 (23:39):
NFL players have the contractual right to shut down their
football activities given the inherent risk of injury. Presumably, the
teams of the players who will participate in the event
have given their blessing League will want them to give
in the league's current emphasis on promoting flag football anywhere
and everywhere.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
But let's not be naive you.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Some big checks will definitely be cut, starting with the
biggest of all, made payable to one Thomas J.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Braid.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
The real question is whether this is the endgame for
Saudi Arabia or just a starting point. With the country
has massive wealth and has started to buy its way
to American sports in several different ways. The fact that
Saudi Arabia is setting up an unprecedented flag football does
not feel like the main course of whatever it is
they may be going after here. I questioned this immediately
because I was like, who is asking for this? A
(24:21):
flag football de facto tiny little league in the middle
of March, in the middle of Saudi Arabia. I've been
to Saudi Arabia half a dozen times, and every time
I was there, not a soul was talking about American football, and.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
That is why they were doing it.
Speaker 7 (24:35):
Then it is finding opportunity and seizing that opportunity. Like
you said, they got deep pockets over there in Saty Rent.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Yeah, and with the names that you just mentioned.
Speaker 7 (24:47):
They're going to pull in a massive audience and that's
a lot of dollars. And it was to say this
isn't just testing the waters for maybe a flag team
or maybe an internet team and Saudi raber.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
That's deep pockets to play players and coaches.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
I don't know, It's better be an indoor stadium because
if you've ever been to the Saudi Rais in the
middle of Marsh, it is quite warm.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
It's great.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Are you gonna watch Tom Brady come out of retirement
to play flag football in Saudi Arabia? Hell no, well
you know what that You may.
Speaker 7 (25:21):
Not want to go there, but viewers may want to
just see it.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
I could care I could not care less about this story.
Who cares about Tom Brady playing flag football?
Speaker 2 (25:33):
I mean apparently somebody, apparently the Saudis because.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Football and a watch and it's interesting to watch because
a lot of these guys you look are all Don
Yee clients. Sean Payton is a Don Yee client. Tom
Brady's a done Yeah. The if Don Yee set this up,
Rob Grokhowski set this up for his clients to.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Extra fa this is at all about money.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
We've seen the Saudi Arabian Soccer League and how they're
paying Christiano Ronaldo.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
I mean, it's just all money grab think about this
really quick as well.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
We remember when they were doing the whole golf tournament,
the two on two, the four live.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
Or whatever people was that, and Live is still sponsored
by them and they're doing pretty well.
Speaker 1 (26:11):
I think with the private equity stuff, I think the
Saudi's are looking to get involved in American football that
way because the private equity.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
That's where I came at it from. But we'll see.
I don't know, maybe this that's something up. Let's get
to the uh, I don't know. The weirdest story of
the week.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
Adam Jeffer reported this weekend that Chadoor Sanders told Baltimore
Ravens thanks but no thanks. This was a fascinating story
here as uh. Basically, as the Ravens were getting ready
with their fifth round pick, it picked one.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
We're getting ready to.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Draft Shador Sanders, and Sanders through whatever medium, let the
team know that he did not want to back up
Lamar Jackson because he had no chance of being the
h is per reported by Adam Schefter. The Ravens then
wound up taking Carter Vincent Carson Vincent at that pick
a offensive lineman who's been active through two games. The
(27:11):
Browns took him just a few picks later. Are we
buying this report about Shidor Sanders rejecting the Ravens? If so,
why I can't even fathom why you would want to
not back up Lamar Jackson in a great organization like
the Ravens versus going to the Browns to back up
Dylan Gabriel and Joe Flacco. Is this Hubris Sonchad Worst?
(27:36):
This whole thing does not make any sense to me.
When's the last time you heard of the fifth round?
Or be like, nah, bro, I'm waiting for another team
to come get me.
Speaker 3 (27:41):
By the way, Adam Schefter doubled down and confirmed it
today on Pat McAfee's show.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Okay, or here's the thing.
Speaker 7 (27:47):
The way that I look at it, it may not
look like it makes sense on the surface, but hang
with me for.
Speaker 2 (27:54):
Just a second. I mean, Dion played for the Ravens.
Speaker 7 (27:56):
I totally get that. But looking at the situation that
Shoudor was in. Now you're backing up a guy like
Lamar Jackson who's really out, who.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Is has been the league MVP.
Speaker 7 (28:10):
The chances of you becoming a starter, a slim and
nunt in Cleveland. You're thinking, Okay, well, my odds are
becoming a starter are better in Cleveland than they are with.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
The Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 7 (28:22):
Though that's probably probably was his running logic, and it
sounds crazy, but it makes sense to me you really.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
Think about it.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
I mean, I get it, I guess from that angle.
But at the point where you if you get if
you're a quarterback and you get into the second round
or third round, teams view you as a project period
second third an't your project you drafted the first round.
They got after that. They don't have that much investment
in you. They look at you as a project. Some
of them panned out. Look at Jalen Hurts, you look
at Derek Carr. Second round is a pan out. But
(28:50):
the majority of them don't. The majority of quarterbacks don't.
Speaker 7 (28:53):
Yeah, well, what's one team seem like more of a
likelihood that shoudor would have more of an opportunity to
be to basically become a star Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
I mean, the road looks easier in Cleveland, yes, but
the grass isn't always greedy. You've got a coaching staff
that's on this guy in the hot seat yet an
organization that's terrible versus a banner organization like Baltimore. I'm
looking at it like this, I'm gonna go ball out
in the preseason. I'm gonna be backing up Lamar, and
people are gonna be saying, hey, can we get that
backup quarterback? You know, when my quarterback goes down, let
me call trade and bring him over to my organization.
Speaker 7 (29:25):
That's not the way that Shador was thinking, because Shador
saw himself as a top flight quarterback, right and why
would I go and back up another top flight quarterback.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
I know.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
The way that Adam Schefter kind of.
Speaker 7 (29:38):
Presented it, it almost seems as though Shador is kind
of giving a slight to the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
I don't look at it in that particular way.
Speaker 7 (29:46):
He is looking at which team gives him the best
opportunity to get on the field and the ability to
go out and show what he can do.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
That's that's kind of what he was thinking. I guess
I sort of see that. I just it's not the
way I think.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
I'm not I'm not I get it from the easiest
paths of starting in a sense. But then I'm like,
I'm looking at that Browns organization. I'm saying thanks, but
note that that's the one I'm telling.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
No, Okay, we know that the Baltimore Ravens they are
a better run organization than the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (30:14):
Right, no one is debating that. But when it.
Speaker 7 (30:16):
Comes back to like playing time, it's almost like, let
me put it, put it to you this way. Let's
just say me, you and Grant we are free agents.
The draft is over. There's multiple teams.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
Now calling us. Wait, dad, I didn't get drafted. No,
we didn't get drafted. League, we didn't get drafted. So
teams are calling you, vying for your time. Can you
come and join our team?
Speaker 7 (30:38):
Some teams are offering you more signing bonus money than
other people are offering you. But there may be another
team that grants you an opportunity to make that team
become a.
Speaker 2 (30:48):
Starter, and they offer you less money. Where you're gonna go.
Speaker 7 (30:51):
You're gonna go to the team that gives you more
money or team that's going to give you more of
an opportunity. And in his mind, he's thinking Cleveland gives
him more of an opportunity.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Maybe I don't I have to look at it.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
If it's a well run organization, they're offering me more money,
I might take the money and carve out my own opportunity.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
I mean that's kind of the way like I look
at it. But I mean I get it with other
people are looking at it the other way. I just
I don't know. For me, the play the organization matters.
Speaker 7 (31:15):
I don't wait wait wait, wait wait, we know organization
that matters.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Do you want to play? Oh?
Speaker 7 (31:20):
Better? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Let me rephrase that. Do you want to have an
opportunity to start or not? That's the question.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Yeah, eventually I do. But I mean that means you're
not going to Baltimore. I mean maybe I'm going there
to learn. I'd rather I'd rather the backup to Joe Flacco.
I'd rather be Come on, now, he was. He was,
but we knew.
Speaker 7 (31:42):
That the Marvel is more talent than Joe Flacco and
that wasn't gonna lie.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Let me just put it this way.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Have you ever heard of a fifth round draft pick
turning down a team that's kind of draft I've never
heard of that.
Speaker 2 (31:52):
I just can't.
Speaker 3 (31:53):
I mean, what you're saying that I understand your side
of the story, but It's just like, if you're falling
to the fourth, fifth round, you just gotta go where
if someone was to take you.
Speaker 7 (32:03):
Very true, but it goes back to what Chardor thought
of himself and his ability opposed to what the people thought.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
But I mean, you get the fifth Only one fifth
rounder has ever made a Pro Bowl.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
One fifth round quarter in the history of the league
has made a Pro Bowl.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
That's Mark Burnell. Well, there was a sixth round quarterback,
Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
But I mean, I'm just saying, but I mean, there's
no way Shor Sander's like, yeah, I'm Tom Brady.
Speaker 7 (32:28):
Well, you gotta think about who was Who was Shador
Sanders mentor.
Speaker 2 (32:32):
Tom Brady who didn't think enough of him to draft
him in the first four rounds.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
Hey all, I'm saying the better opportunity for Shador looked
like it was Cleveland and still might be Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
All I'm saying is like Spencer Ratler got drafted in
the fifth round, you know, and he was sitting behind
you went Nope.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Derek Carr is there. I don't know if I can
make it. I don't know, guys, I want to go
with other team a snake.
Speaker 1 (33:01):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Broadcos Country dick back after this flossing my toes toes
exactly
Speaker 4 (33:10):
M
