Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well me to a Broncos Country Tonight short show post
(00:03):
Rockies edition. Benjamin all Bright here with you. Hope you
guys are enjoying your evenings so far. STA Tomorrow, myself,
Nick Ferguson, we'll have a full show for Thursday night.
(00:23):
I will be on KWA Sports in the afternoon, and
then Friday it'll be myself and Nick and Ryan all
on KAWA Sports as well, so program me notes there
of course, as always, if there's an away game on Sunday,
join us at the Burndown for the live watch party.
We had a great time last Sunday. Unfortunately the end
(00:45):
didn't go the way we wanted, but we had a
We had a really good time at that. When we
get the Chargers coming up this week, so a lot
more fun in store. We got ticket giveaways, concert ticket
giveaways at all expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for
giving away, tons of giveaways, So come on down to
the Burndown. It's it's sponsored by Arta Tequila, the official
tequila that Denver Broncos, as well as the Burndown and
(01:07):
and k Away and of course we'll have all your
coverage start at eight am on Sunday with the Broncos
warm Up, the opening line, gambling Show, the Fantasy Show,
count down to kick off, all the all the great
stuff that we do. Uh here on k away. A
few Broncos injuries to get to Drey Greenlaw did not
(01:31):
practice today, excuse me with the quad. Evan Ingram did
not practice today. He's got back issue, and linebacker Justin
Sternd did not practice with a foot issue. So make
(01:51):
of that what you will. Dray green Law's rehabs been
a little nebulous. According to Sean Payton, Ingram said his
calf injury was good, but he's got a back injury
now obviously, and well we'll see how that goes. So
the good news Patser Tan full Go with his ankle,
tight end full back, age back, Nate Adkins with his
(02:11):
ankle fully practiced, so a little bit of that. Uh
Hufaga had a chest issue that was was a little
bit limited. Alex Singleton, Nick Benito both full Goes despite
having some the thumb and the wrist there as well.
So there will be practices again Thursday and Friday before
(02:34):
we get final injury reports, and we'll keep you up
to date right here on KOA where that's at Obviously
we've seen quite a cry for Drake Greenlaw to takeover
for Alex Singleton after people a lot of people blame
Singleton for the last It wasn't just an Alex Singleton issue. Obviously,
there were there were other issues in that one as well,
(02:57):
But for whatever reason, the fans UH certainly gravitated towards
blaming Singleton for that one. So you know, that's that's
that is what it is. But it's one of those
things where you don't want to rush green Law out
there and then get him hurt. And now you've got
a ding dubster not who didn't practice and and all
(03:17):
of a sudden, we're we got issues. So as far
as the Chargers go, they had several UH did not
practice UH players, Will Disley, defensive lineman Justin a boygebe
wide receiver Lad mccakee probably the biggest name on there.
And defensive back Elijah Moulden mccacke bicep and he's supposed
(03:41):
to be good. Elijah Moulten hamstring. That's a question. Mark
Disley with his knee, and and the defensive lineman with
his foot is Shuelthough's supposed to get to go the
other one was linebacker Dian Henley, who has been a
huge player for the Chargers so far, but he's been
out with an illness. He actually played in Week two
with an illness and he should be good to go,
(04:03):
so don't read too much into him not practicing today
for the Chargers. Chargers had two limited cam Hart the
corner he's a little bit of a hip issue, but
he's supposed to be fine, and corner Targhee is still
both a knee and a shoulder, but he's expected to
be a go barring any setbacks as well. So that's
your updated injury report. The Chargers also placed outside linebacker
(04:28):
Khalil Mack on the IR today, so he will miss
this game. He is supposed to be back this season,
but they put him on the on the i R
and the two guys to step up in his stead
look to be Bud Dupree and Kyle Canard. Canard a
rookie that they have high hopes for. They just wanted
to bring him along, you know, fairly slowly. We'll see,
(04:49):
uh see how that goes. But they've they've got a
pretty good linebacking corps there, and I think we've all
seen the Chargers defense, it's a pretty good defense, So
you know, I Leo mac being out is yes, that's
that is something you know, that's that's definitely a blow
to the overall quality of their defense. But at the
(05:11):
same time, they're still a very very good defense. And
I just I just don't want Broncos fans sleeping on
this game because the Chargers are a very very good
football team overall. We talked about that several times yesterday
as well. A lot of stuff going on around the
league today. You had the Washington Commanders get approved of
(05:34):
their new stadium site and they're they're expecting twenty thirty
launch on their new stadium site. So dueling new stadiums,
I guess between the Broncos and the Commanders, you know,
is that builds itself forward. Pete Carroll said the Raiders
are going to prep as if Jayden Daniels is playing,
(05:54):
even though he hasn't practiced with a knee injury so far,
and he still thinks it's going to bed and Daniels
that they're that they're going to be facing, saying, quote,
we have to prepare for him playing the bettest he
probably will might not practice him till later in the week,
but we're gonna count on him going. Carol did say
the Raiders will discuss the possibility of facing back up
Marcus Mariota, but Daniels is the quarterback they expect to see.
(06:18):
They got a lot of background on Marcus on the
staff there, obviously with Chip Kelly know his capabilities, but
they're preparing for for Jade and Daniels there. Browns moved
Quinn Sewn Judkins to the running back one spot on
their depth chart. It's only been eight days he joined
the team, but he'll be the starting running back this Sunday.
The online death chart moved him ahead of Jerome Ford.
(06:38):
Kevin Stefanski kind of downplayed it, saying, obviously we're gonna
keep bringing Quinn Shawn along, but that unofficial depth chart
is done by a PR chief, Peter Jean Baptiste, So
you know, I mean, I guess it doesn't really matter
who compiles the depth chart. It is their death chart.
And John Baptiste wouldn't have moved Judkins to number one
if he wasn't sure the Judkins was going to be
(06:59):
RB one. He participated in twenty Snaps his past Sunday
at Baltimore after they said ten to fifteen snap workload.
Touched the ball thirteen times in those twenty plays, ten
carries for sixty one yards, three catches for ten So
with the Packers coming to town, the Browns need a
stout running game in order to take some of the
steam out of the pass rush headlined by Michael Parsons.
(07:21):
So Judkins on the death chart sort of seems fairly
obvious with that. The Buccaneers Baker Mayfield fully participated in practice,
but one of his top targets wasn't on the field.
Wide receiver at Mecca Buca did not practice and listed
on the team's injury report with both hip and groin injuries.
The first round pick has three touchdown catches so far
(07:43):
this season, and report on this morning indicated that Mayfield
might miss some practice time, but he was a full participant.
He's listed with knee and tow issues, but the expectation
is he'll play against the Jets on Sunday. Right tackle
Luke Gottak had a foot injury. Right guard Cody Malk
had a foot neither one practice. Defensive tackle Collegia Kancy
(08:04):
misspractice and has been placed on the ir for those
wondering about wide receiver Chris Godwin. He remained limited with
the ankle. Left tackle Tristan Wirf knee also remained limited
in they're working towards making their twenty twenty five debuts.
Linebacker Servotia Dennis had an ankle ed rusher Hassad Radic
with the shoulder also limited participants in practice as well.
(08:28):
The Arizona Cardinals plays defensive lineman LJ. Collier and corner
Garrett Williams on the IR. Williams injured a knee in
a collision with safety Buddha Baker late in Sunday's victory
over the Panthers. John Gannon, the head coach of the Cardinals,
said Williams has a chance to return this season, and
also lost Collier to a knee injury, he too could return.
Both will have to miss at least four games. However,
(08:48):
after going on the IR, Cardinals signed corner Darren Hall
to the active roster from the practice squad, and corners
Max Melton will Johnson are day to day with knee
and groin injuries, respectively. Cardinals also announced the signings of
defensive lineman Zach Carter, corner Eco Boye do to the
practice squad and released linebacker Elliott Brown from their practice squad.
(09:13):
The NFL continues to push more games to streaming. One
big question lingers, will the biggest game of them all
ever migrate from broadcast TV. Amazon's hoping it will, and
via Sean Keeley of Awful Announcing Prime Video CEOJ Marine
said during Tuesday's tuned in event from the Front Office
Sports Network that Amazon wants to host the Super Bowl.
(09:35):
Marine told Michael McCarthy your Front Office Sports if I
have my way, yes, absolutely, that would be our ambitious,
our ambitions in the fullness of time. I'll just say
I'm optimistic, and time, of course, is the key word.
If the NFL were to put the Super Bowl on
streaming in the foreseeable future, Congress could target their broadcast
anti trust exemption. So if, however, the Sports Broadcasting Act
(09:56):
of nineteen sixty one is eventually revised to either eliminate
or expand the exis, well, then that issue evaporates. But
fans will hoffin, they'll poff, and then they'll still pay
to watch the game. It does sort of feel inevitable
at this point that eventually we'll get that streaming as
the league continues to nickel and dime its fans, rock
Party returning to practice today. Head coach Kyle Shanahan tole
(10:18):
reporters in his press conference, Party's toe injury had progressed
enough for him to practice in a limited capacity. It's
also a chance he'll start Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
He could also just be the emergency third quarterback Party's
been dealing with a toe and shoulder injury. Mac Jones
started last week's went over the Saints, completing twenty six
of thirty nine passes for two hundred and seventy nine yards,
(10:38):
three touchdowns, no interceptions. Shanahan also noted that fullback Kyle Ustcheck,
safety Sarah and Neil, guard Spencer Burford, and defensive end
Jetter Gross Mottos will not practice use to check out
a concussion in the game. Running Back Christian McCaffrey is
getting a rest day, left tackle Trent Williams also getting
arrest day, and defensive end Nick Bosa also getting arrest day.
(10:59):
Did not anticipate in Wednesday's practices. The Giants' first injury
report for this week's game against the Chiefs include a
number of players from the offensive side of the ball.
Wan Dale Robinson at eight catches for hundred forty two
yards and a touchdown a week two listed as one
of three receivers with limited participation. Darius Slayton and gunner
(11:20):
Rose Luski the other whiteouts in that group. Left tackle
Andrew Thomas, who has a foot injury, was a limited participant.
Tis yet to play the game this season. They're open
to get him back soon. On offensive line that has
been frankly bad, left guard John runyons Back and center
Jean Michael Smith's tow were also limited. Running Backs Tyrone Tracy,
(11:42):
who was a cap issue in camp, Scatibow with an
ankle are also on the report. Tracy was limited, Scatibow
as a full participant. On the defensive side, Linebacker Demetrius
flatting At Fowls, defensive lineman Chauncey Golston, and linebacker Darius
Malsau were out of practice. Defensive lyman rakeem Nuniez roaches
and he was limited, and defensive lineman Roy Robertson Harris
(12:05):
was listed as full. After the images of Tom Brady
in Las Vegas coaches box went viral, many dot connectors
around the league suggested that perhaps that might be an
unfair advantage. Chicago coach Ben Johnson told reporters he has
no concern about Brady's handling of the next Bears game.
Say quote, I'm not worried about it. I mean we exchange.
(12:28):
We change week to week in terms of what we
do schematically. He's going to be able to turn on
the tape and see what everybody else in the world
is seeing right now. Personnel rise, it's the same thing.
It's not like I'm going to sit down with him
and say, hey, don't do this, Tokayler Williams or you
might get it like, there's not going to be any
trade secrets that are going to be exchanged. So I
don't know if it's that big a deal, to be
honest with you. Johnson added he's generally careful when talking
about his team to anyone and everyone, say, quote, man,
(12:50):
I've been careful with everything I've said since the season started.
I've been a pure coach speak mode since the season started.
So to me, it's just business as usual. I'm just fine.
I like Tom, we have a good relationship hip. The
Raiders wanted to hire Ben Johnson to be the team's coach,
and it was widely believed during the hiring cycle. So
(13:13):
you know there's that. Why would Johnson want to burn
a potential bridge? I mean, you don't. But fascinating is
several people privately say one thing and publicly say another.
Sean Payton came out with a quote about it today
saying he wasn't worried about it. But Sean Payton and
Tom Brady long have a relationship as they're both Don
Yee clients, and you know, frankly Don Yee clients, not
(13:40):
disparaging other Don Yee clients has long been a hard
and fast rule. Falcon's coach Raheem Morris certainly loves his
running back be Jean Robinson. With Robinson eligible for a
new contract after this season, Robinson's agents will love that.
He said that. Marris today, via Mark Romandi of ESPN,
said he's definitely the best player in football, without a doubt.
(14:03):
He's unbelievable. I love the kid. I love everything about him.
I love watching with the ball, loves confidence, demeanor, mindset, leadership.
I love everything about him, right or wrong. Plenty of coaches
and executives treat lightly when it comes to publicly pumping
the players do to get paid as agents use that
phrase in contract negotiations, but there are some things that
are undeniable. I mean, he has unbelievable vision, and obviously
(14:25):
Morris is saying he's got a great skill set and
unbelievable teammate and physicality. With a lot of resources of
late devoted to quarterback position, Robinson is the reason the
Falcons are one and one. After being bottled up by
the Bucks in week one, he fueled the offense in Minnesota,
rushing for one hundred and forty three and adding twenty
five receiving yards. Up next to the Falcons, he owed
(14:47):
to Panthers chance to keep pace with the two to
zero Bucks. That's going to be interesting to see how
the deployment of Bijeon goes in that game and if
they don't lay him up, if they get out to
a big lead real quick. The Vikings side Desmon Ridder
of their active roster, but he won't be active for
the game against the Bengals. Head coach Kevin O'Connell told
(15:08):
reporters today Ridder will be at active as the emergency
third quarterback in Week three and undrafted rookie Max Brosmer
will be the backup quarterback behind Carson Wentz. Wentz is
playing because JJ McCarthy's been ruled out with a high
ankle spray and the team does not plan to place
him on the ir but it's unclear whether he'll be
well enough to play again. Roseman did not see action
in the first two games. Was thirty five to fifty
(15:30):
eight for three to sixty four, two touchdowns and an interception.
In the pre season. Jalen Waddle is questionable and Darren
Waller is out for Thursday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.
The Dolphins may not have some of their tops receivers
yet again. Waddle was added to the injury report Yesterday's
a limited participate and was limited today as well. Dolphins
(15:51):
had a walk through today. Two games this season, Waddle
nine catches ninety eight yards and a touchdown. He was
a limited participant on all three injury reports week, but
tight end Darren H. Waller with the hip, has been
ruled out yet to make his Dolphins debut since coming
out of retirement this summer. Cornerstorm Duck and safety mil
Fan we have also been ruled out for the game
(16:14):
for Thursday Night Football. Appreciate you guys being along for
the ride. Here. We'll get into a little Chargers preview
in the next segment and go around the league, get
the latest other news and notes, and appreciate you guys
being here on these abbreviated short post Rockies edition shows.

(16:41):

c T, and then myself and Nick will be on
k Sports on Friday as well. Want to reiterate to
you guys, come on out to the Burndown on Sunday.
We got programming starting here at eight am on on KWA.
But come on out to the Burndown on Sunday. Myself
and Nick will be out there. We had a great
time this past week, lots of people showing up I'd
appreciate you guys, you know, coming up big to to
(17:24):
help out and show up for these sponsors that are
investing in our show. So come on out to the Burndown.
We got the Orange Blue watch party. We'll watch Broncos
take on the Chargers. There. Love to hear you guys
thoughts in person on the Broncos and all that. So
looking forward to that. In previewing this Chargers matchup, even
(17:45):
with the Khalil Mack situation, there's still a very formidable
team and I don't know, looking at this thing so far,
they look like they're one of the elite teams in
the in the AFC. They really do. They've got great
coaching here with with hardball Jesse Minter and Greg Roman
as the head coach and coordinators. They've stayed relatively healthy
(18:06):
outside of the Khalil max situation. Uh. You know, obviously,
I think most people know about the Rashaan Slater injury,
but you know, beyond that, they've they've been relatively healthy.
They've got all of a sudden they've decided to anyway, uh,
certainly make a commitment to the passing game, which they
have really really been successful at. Through two weeks. Uh.
(18:30):
We all saw what they did to Kansas City, saw
what they did the Raiders. Uh, they've been successful with
that pass game so far. So interestingly enough, this will
be the third division game for the Chargers to to
open the season. Uh, and it'll be the first division
game for the Nenver Broncos. You know, the offensive line
for the Chargers pretty good. Uh, They're a little bit
(18:50):
weaker on the right side than the left. At the receivers,
Quinton Johnston still issues with the hands, but it's gotten
a little bit better. Mcconachie out of the slots and
most aiable guy. That brought Keenan Allen back and he's
looked like you've still got a little juice as well.
Then they've got Trey Harris, the rookie backing all of
them up at the tight end is probably their weakest
skill position, where you've got Will Disley, Tyler Conklin. They
(19:12):
added rookie Arronda Gadsden in the fifth round as well.
It's just that position ahead group has not really taken
off so far this year. It'll be interesting to see
how they match up with the Broncos, who struggled a
little against the tight end the running backs, rookie O'marion
Hampton the Naji Harris backing him up. They've started to
get him more and more involved. And then Hassan Haskins
is the emergency back. He can't returns kicks, doesn't really
(19:33):
do much else. Scott matt Locke is kind of the
do it all full back that they have. He plays
at l H back. They've used him as a tight end,
but mostly as a full back. On the defensive side,
it's a thirty four with an under front. Jamari Caldwell
the rookie at the nose. They used to Sean Hand
and tierk Tart as the other you know, interior defensive
(19:54):
lineman off the edge used to be k Ma and
uh truly too a below two. But with mac down,
you're probably gonna get a little bit more of Bud
Dupree uh in there. You'll uh, you know, you may
get a little bit of Caleb Murphy, uh, you know
(20:20):
in there as well. And then they've of course got
Kyle Knnard, the rookie who they have some high hopes for,
so you probably see a little bit more him in
the rotation inside linebackers. Troy died but dayon Henley is
really the has really been sort of the revelation there.
Henley was an inside backer at Washington State. UH, they
(20:41):
drafted eas and it's what third year, you know with
the Chargers, and he's he's had a he had a
great camp. He's had a great season so far for
the Chargers. As as their primary inside backer. UH. The corners,
Dante Jackson, UH Tar Heeed still the main guys. They
are backed up by Benjamin Saint juiced and and Cam
(21:02):
Hart out of the slot, Darwin James who moves around,
he plays a nickelback plays the safety moves around a
little bit. UH and just here Taylor and then the
main safeties we mentioned James, but also a lohih Gilman
and r J. Mickens the sixth round rookie. They kind
of have a rotation that they use uh through the
safety and the nickel in an effort to get you know,
(21:23):
Darwin James on the field. UH, punter JK. Scott and
Cameron Dicker. Those guys are reliable. These Darius Davis, the
Son Haskins and Lad mcconkeye's return guys. And that's really,
I mean, that's really all you need to know about
the rosters. Uh, they keep two quarterbacks, the backups Trey
Lance and the guy behind him is dj U Glele.
They Chargers have a propensity for collecting failure failed quarterbacks
(21:47):
and trying to rehab them as their backups. So, uh,
if Justin Herbert goes down, that's sort of what you
would see. They love to they love to run the ball,
but they've been throwing it this year, and you know,
they've been wildly successful at it. So you know, that's
that's one of those things that's going to be really interesting,
(22:10):
really interesting to watch in this game. The Chargers have
been a smash mount football team. They beat the Broncos
last year. They're good. I will say this, this is
not this is not the Chargers of yours. This is
not a pushover game. And I you know, the Chargers
are two and a half point favorite, and I I
I see why. I feel like the Chargers are one
(22:31):
of the elite teams in the AFC right now and
the Broncos. They win this game, they could get some
of that confidence back. But he's a tough ask. So
you know, you're on the road, You're coming off another
road game, a loss in disheartening fashion. It's important to
get your mind right for this game. It's important to
like kind of put that out of out of your
memory and get your mind right for this game. And
you know, Sean Payton's got to got to get a
(22:51):
game plan together to beat the Chargers because he has
not beaten Jim Harrball yet. Around the league. A bunch
of news notes here. The Vikings are putting Aaron Jones
on the injured reserve. According to multiple reports, it'll keep
them out at least the next four games. They're signing
running back Cam Akers to bolster their backfield. Jordan Mason
(23:11):
has been splitting time with Aaron Jones over the first
two weeks, and Mason will obviously move into the lead
role for the ground game. Right now, Jones has thirteen
carries for forty six yards three catches forty four yards
the first two games of the season. Obviously, he's going
to miss the Vikings coming match up with the Bengals,
as well as games against the Steelers, Browns at Eagles.
The Vikings do have a buy in week six, so
(23:32):
he'll be eligible to return for the vikings Thursday night
game against the Rams in week eight. So just some
stuff to keep your eye on there if you're a
fantasy footballer. You know, we talked a little bit about
Ashton Janty in the last segment. Janney's got thirty carries
(23:52):
for eighty one yards, five catches three yards. That's basically
two point four yards per touch. Nowhere near what the
Raiders were expecting when they when they drafted Janty with
a six overall pick. But Raiders head coach Pte Carroll
said it's too early to worry about that or his
ability in the NFL, saying, he ran the ball well,
I thought he hit stuff. Well, he went the wrong
way out of play. That was unfortunate, mess up the
(24:14):
whole play. Gino, I don't know if I saw last night.
Geno goes one way, he goes the other. So, like
you know, we got a ways to go there. But
Carol said, I have no problem telling you that he's
going to get better and more comfortable. He felt more
comfortable in this game. Look good running the ball. We
just need to get it to him more. And Jenny's
career is going to be judged on more than two games.
But certainly early it has not looked. The returns have
(24:39):
not looked like what people thought that they were getting
out of a top ten draft pick on a running back.
I know I talked about it yesterday, but this Saudi
Arabia thing, Tom Brady's current professional activities feel less like
a post playing exploits with a seven time Super Bowl winner,
more like the origin story of a villain in a
(24:59):
Bond movie. Lost in yesterday's sort of aha moment regarding
his Fox Raiders conflict of interest with him in the
booth with the headset and all that is that he's
going to be pocketing presumably a substantial amount of Middle
Eastern oil money to stage flag football games in Saudi
Arabia along with multiple current and former players. The league
(25:23):
was asked if it has involvement the event and whether
or not teams have authorized participation of players in non
NFL football, and the league responded with a mass email
sent earlier today saying, quote, fanatics made us aware of
the event, but this is not a league initiative. It
is up to individual clubs to provide clearance for their
active players to participate. It's not known whether the teams
(25:45):
have given the players their blessing. Yeah. Paragraph three of
the standard player contract gives teams the ability to shut
down player involvement in any other football in Denver with
the following quotation without prior written consent of the club,
player will not engage in football or football related activities
related to football otherwise than for the club, or engage
(26:05):
in any activity other than football which may involve a
significant risk of personal injury. In English, teams can tell
players not to play the football basically, and teams can
go to court to keep it from happening. That's the
current unknown as it relates to this Tom Brady led
flag football cash grab. Now, obviously Brady is not under
those same rules as he's not a current player, but
(26:28):
there are current players named in the press release that
include Saquon Barkley, Ceedee Lamb, Christian McCaffrey, Sauce Gardner, Miles Garrett,
brock Bauers, Max Crosby, Tyreek Hill. So you know, we'll
we'll see how that goes. Both Kyle Shanahan and Sean
Payton are on the coaching list for this endeavor as well.
And that's going to be it's gonna be one of
(26:51):
those things that I don't know, I don't I don't
know that I'm gonna be tuned into that. I mean,
I don't I don't get it. Tom Brady's coming out
or hirement with Rob Gronkowski to play flag football in
Saudi Arabia. It just seems like a vanity project to me,
more than more than anything else. And if you look
a lot of the people who are involved in this
are Don Yee clients Tom Brady, Sean Payton, you know, Rabbi,
(27:14):
you know, et cetera, et cetera. So there's a bunch
of Don Yee guys that are uh that are doing this.
This feels more like him getting his clients a bunch
of money. And and you know, I'm not bigrudging them
that secure the bag, but this doesn't feel like something
that's who's asking for this, what fans were asking for this.
I've been to Saudi Arabia a half dozen times and
I never had an American football related conversation anytime I
(27:36):
was there with anybody who lived there. You know, they
live soccer. But the NFL was just not a thing.
And maybe that's changed in the recent years. It's been
a little while, so I've been over there, but that
was not a thing when I was over there, So
I just I wonder if this is some vanity project
or if it's uh, maybe the Saudi you know, oil
families trying to get involved with potentially these new NFL
(28:00):
rules on allowing certain funds to get involved in ownership.
You know, maybe it's maybe it's trending that I don't know,
but this one was weird, just seemed like sort of
a vanity project type thing that I stateside, I don't
think any NFL fans are asking for this. I don't know.
(28:20):
Maybe I'm wrong. The other moves VI because it made
the sign cam akers. They made a move to fortify
the quarterback position while McCarthy recovers from his ankle injury.
Per Tom Peli Herodian Rapaport, Minnesota is signing with signing
quarterback Desmond Ridder to their fifty three man roster. Ridder,
who's twenty six, met the preseason with the Bengals but
(28:41):
had not found a team since he was like well
at the end of August, Minnesota place Cincinnati this week.
Sincinnati also shorthanded, so that's that's sort of interesting. With
the Bengals obviously down to Jake browning with Burrow out,
by signing Riddle of the fifty three, they'll be able
to have him suit up as the emergency third quarterback.
McCarthy's still not expected to be placed on the ir
(29:04):
but we don't know how long he's out just yet.
Ridder has appeared in twenty five games of eighteen starts,
went six and seven as the Falcon starter before traded
Arizona Cardinals subsequently let him go hooked up with the
Raiders last season. You know, he's completed sixty three point
three percent of his passes for four thousand yards, sixteen
touchdowns fourteen picks, so, of course of his career bouncing
(29:27):
around between multiple teams, Minnesota's top three quarterbacks are expected
to be Carson Wentz, Max Brosmer, and then Ridder on
top of that. So you know, we'll see how that
shakes out for the Vikings, who are having to make
several several different moves here to pick up on their roster.
(29:47):
The other part of the Brady thing was from last
night where he was sitting in the coaches booth with
the headset on, and owners are allowed to do that.
I'll tell you the Broncos owners they don't typically sit
the coaches box, but they do have the headset on
to listen to that stuff, and there's no problem with that.
The NFL released a statement on it today saying there's
no policies that prohibit an owner from sitting in the
coach's booth wearing a headset during the game. But that
(30:09):
sort of misses the point of why people were, you know,
why people are looking at this Brady thing with with
with the side eye. The issue isn't what Brady was
doing on Monday night, although it looked kind of like
he was trying to slide under the desk ontually realize
the camera was on him. The issue is what he
does on Sundays on Fox. And the quote is is
(30:32):
that Tom continues to be prohibited from going to team
facility for practices or production meetings. He can attend them remotely,
but can't do them on site. But that that's that's
a cop out by the league. You know, the game
of the week becomes lesser if teams choose to say
as a little as possible to Brady because they don't want,
(30:53):
you know, that to get out there and then we're
on you. But at the same time, it also allows
him to work, as it vance scout on these things.
Because of you know, the access that he gets even
though he's not allowed to go to those kinds of meetings.
The Tom Brady thing is going to come to ahead eventually.
Right now, it's it's bubbling under the service, but that's
gonna you know, the the fact that he's doing all
(31:14):
this stuff and then there's conflicts of interest, there's it's
going to come to a head eventually, and it's going
to be interesting to see how both the league and
and you know, the the teams handle all that. A
couple of things I wanted to get to Josh Allen
is going to be sporting a new look on Thursday
Night Football. Alan had to leave during Sundays beat down
(31:35):
of the Jets for a brief period after he got
hit in the face at the end of a running
play and his nose was bleeding, gushing blood, but he
returned with gauze in one nostril and didn't really have
any any further issues the rest of the game. Today,
he said he's a little bruised up but otherwise fine.
Heading into this week's game. Was sporting a visor on
his helmet at practice and said he thinks he will
(31:57):
wear it as further protection on Thursday, Alan And during
his pressers said, we'll see quotes. We'll probably wear it
in the game, just trying to get used to it.
He has never worn a visor in an NFL game,
but did wear one back in college, so that it
doesn't have much impact outside of being warmer than his
usual helmet. We did finally get the broadcast team for
(32:19):
the Netflix Christmas Games. No Eagle confirmed to Front Office
Sports that they'll be the play by play announcers for
the double header. Second straight year they'll be in those roles.
There was word back in July Drew Brees be calling
one of the games. He'll be in the booth with
Noah Eagle for the Lions Vikings game in Minnesota. Breeze
(32:39):
had previously called the games for NBC in the New
York last year's Christmas Games for Netflix International version, Iron
Eagle will be joined by Nate Burlson and Matt Ryan
for the one pm Eastern time game, which features the
Cowboys and Commanders in Washington. Eagle calls games for CBS
with J. J. Watt, while Berlson and Ryan are both
(32:59):
on the NFL Today. So if you care about the
broadcast team type stuff, there you go for the for
the Thanksgiving games excuse me, Netflix Christmas games. Rather this year,
the Bengals, who put Joe Burrow on IR signed our
old buddy Burt Rippin to the roster. They also brought
(33:20):
in Mike White Shaan Clifford to the practice squad, just
putting bodies on there for now until they can figure
out what they're going to do. Jake Browning will get
the majority of the work and he's expected to be
the starter for the game this week as well as
the Broncos Monday night football game here in Denver here
a week from this coming Monday, so that'll be That's
interesting signing Brett Rippon, the former Bronco, just two weeks
(33:43):
before you play him. You know some people speculating that
there's you know, something to that as well. So appreciate
you guys being along for the ride today. Looking forward
to another show tomorrow night, another short show as we
wind down Rocky season before we get back to full
time shows. Appreciate you guys listening full day on k
(34:04):
WI Sports on Thursday. Nick and I will be on
k Sports on Friday, and then of course Sunday we'll
have all your game time stuff and be down at
the burnout for a couple hours to come on down
to the burnout as well. Guys have been listening to
Broncos country tonight right here on Kowa
