Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into it, Broncos Country Tonight, Benjamin Albright here with

(00:03):
you short show Post Rockies edition. We'll have another one
of these short show Post Rockies addition tomorrow as well
full show on Thursday, and we'll be live out there
at Sam's Number three. Not sure which location just yet,
so we'll get that to you guys probably on the
Twitter account. If you follow the Ka Colorado Twitter account,

(00:24):
you can get all the the latest one where we
where we will be. But you have your chance to
win a signed Patzer tan helmet, Savin signed Chavanta weeps Jersey.
There's all kinds of stuff where we're giving away all
season long right here, KOs. You guys want to be
out there for that stuff. Sam's Number three gonna be fun.
Had a lot of fun with with Nick last night
at the Sporty Pickles. You guys got to come out

(00:44):
there on Mondays. It's a it's a fun it's a
fun joint. Man. It's it's new the way. But if
you if you're getting out there, if you're getting out
on a Monday night, they got plenty of TVs. You know,
not a bad seat in the house as far as
that kind of stuff. Goes. It got good drinks, you've
got good food, and you know they get the pickleball
courts here. You can't hear the pickleball. It's like behind

(01:05):
a wall. If you're you know, some people are worried.
I've talked to people like, well there's pickleball courts. There
isn't it loud. You can't even hear that stuff. It's
back behind a wall. You can see it, but it's
behind a wall. It's it's out, keeps the noise out.
So I promise you guys, you'll have a good time.
You come on out to the Sporty Pickle on Monday,
Sam's number three on Thursdays, and we're giving stuff away
all season long right here at Koway five six six

(01:28):
nine zeros text line. You would get involved the conversation.
It was an interesting day in Denver sports. Charlie Blackman presser,
you know we talked about that last night announced his retirement.
You still got time to see Charlie as a Colorado Rockies.
A couple of a couple of home games left, so
you get get a chance to see him and and
give him a farewell. And I imagine that last game

(01:48):
this season be pretty well at time. What if you
think of the Montforts, whatever you think of the Rockies
the last couple of years, Charlie Blackman hustled, just bought
off for the Rockies. Fourteen year Rocky could have chase
him month anywhere else, didn't stayed here, stayed through the bills,
stayed through the rebuild, and gave it as all as
a Rocky. And so, you know, I think that's one
of the things that even for people who are you know,

(02:11):
sort of de facto protesting the Monforts by not going
to Rocky games and that kind of stuff, showing up
for that one, showing up for the farewell to Charlie,
I think is I think it's big and showing Chuck
Nasty what he's meant to the city of Denver for
the last fourteen years as he has labored through some
teams that weren't very good, made the playoffs twice in

(02:33):
his career in a fourteen year career. That that's rough.
But you got a guy who really hustled, and for me,
guys like that that, I was talking to Jack Corgan
about it last night. You know, guys that stayed their
whole career somewhere. That's such a rarity in sports anymore,
especially a lengthy career like that of fourteen years. That's

(02:53):
such a rarity in sports anymore. You know, one of
my favorite all time players, Nolan Ryan, they played for
four teams, and that was before the modern era where
where people were moving around a lot. You I came
up sort of on the straddling the fence, on the
free agency era where it was just becoming a vogue thing.
You know, when I started paying attention to sports, and
there were still guys that played for teams their whole careers.

(03:16):
You know, there were still guys that that were all time,
you know, all time on their team kind of thing.
You know, George Brett was a guy that you know
that I watched my whole career. We talked about Ozzie
Smith although he started with the Padres for like three

(03:38):
years before he was with the Cardinals. You know, Cal Ripken,
guys like that. That are guys that were played for
for their whole career or basically their whole career one place.
It's it's just such a rarity, it just is. And so,
you know, I think that when you find that, when
you find guys that do that and stick with the
team their whole career. That's that's certainly fascinating. I don't

(04:00):
know if it's a good thing or a bad thing.
I don't want to pass judgment on anybody who does
whatever it is that they do. However, I do find
it sort of interesting. I do find it sort of
fascinating when when players do and I have, you know,
kind of a tip of my cap to that. I
don't think a lot of people would have thought that
Tom Brady would become a Tampa Bay buccaneer, but he did.

(04:21):
Or Joe Montana is a Kansas City chief, you know,
those kinds of things. It's it's just rare to find,
even with the greats, it's rare to find people that
stay somewhere their entire career and uh anymore. And and
so I think it'd be fun. I think it'd be
nice if if Broncos Country, Rockies Country shows up for

(04:42):
Chuck Nasty the way he he stayed for them one
last time. Whatever you whatever you think of the Montforts.
And we get a ton of texts of people who
are you know, I refuse to go to games, you
know that kind of stuff. Hey, I you know, I'm
never going to tell you how to fan. I'm never
going to tell you how to be a fan. I'm
never going to tell you how to not be a fan.
That's not my place, that's your place. What I will

(05:02):
say is that I feel like it is incumbent upon
us to show love to the people who showed love
to us, right And and Charlie Blackman is a guy
who's stuck around the Colorado Rockies despite having plenty of
incentive to go anywhere else through some down years, and

(05:22):
this place is home and battled, you know, some bad
teams to continue to try to get fans to come
out for the game of baseball. And I respect that.
So I'm going to try to be there for that,
for that last game, and you know, tip my cap
to a guy who who I think deserves it. You know,
I don't think he's a guy that's gonna make the
Hall of Fame, but certainly a guy that deserves the

(05:43):
you know, the Rockies Ring of Fame as it were.
I think Jack Corgan had a hilarious idea last night
when he talked about, you know, maybe retired as jersey
number and you put it up there and then you
put a little beard hanging underneath it, you know, just
to kind of symbolic of what it is that you know,
he's known for, him remembered for, and all that kind
of stuff. And you know, my head is off to

(06:07):
him for the career that he's had. I hope he
gets the send off that he deserves for not demanding
a trade, and you know, and and going somewhere else.
He was. He was a great ambassador of the game
while he was here, and a great ambassador for the
Colorado Rockies. And you know, whatever lack of success the
Rockies have had over his tenure of being here, I
don't think that's reflecting his efforts in trying to bring

(06:29):
success to the organization. So I want to get into
some Broncos stuff. They did try a quant Alexander day,
still trying, not inside backers, and I find that fascinating,
you know. I with all due respect to Cody Barton,
not not the world's you know, biggest Cody Barton fan,
I mean against the guy. I'm just saying, there are
I think I thought there were, excuse me, better options.

(06:51):
He kind of fills that Josie Jewel role now that
Josie's gone. But to me, I would like to have
probably somebody a little bit more athletic in that role,
especially if they're going to be covering tight ends for
Vance and the defense. It would be nice to see.
I don't have anything against Cody, and I don't want

(07:12):
Cody shipped out of town or anything like that. I
just would like to have some more athletic guys in
the pipeline. What if Alex Singleton goes down, you know,
So just a thought there. The Detroit Lions. They did
keep their word, and we'll get into some Broncos breakdown
stuff here in just a minute, but the Lions. After

(07:32):
the Broncos released veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick back in August,
the Lions signed Patrick to the practice squad with the
idea that he would work his way to the active roster.
We are three weeks into the season, Detroit has promoted
Patrick from the practice squad to the fifty three man roster.
He was elevated from the practice squad for the theme's
first two games, and obviously that won't be necessary anymore

(07:54):
now that he's on the full time roster. The Broncos
officially cut Patrick last month when they failed to get
a deal done with New Orleans Saints to trade him.
Patrick has three receptions for twenty yards one one touchdown
in two games with the Lions. Sutton, Josh Redelds little

(08:16):
Jordan Humphrey have really been Dever's top three receivers this season.
I look good in the first game, but he's been
injured with those those ribs. Bonnix has obviously not thrown
a passing touchdown yet, so none of those none of
them have a passing touchdown. But Sutton's twelve receptions for
out of thirty two yards, Josh Renolds has eleven receptions
d seventy four yards, Jordan Humbreys ten catches for eighty
seven yards on the season. And while the team definitely

(08:40):
has missed the reliability of team Tim Patrick, they've certainly
found a way to just order carry on at a
pretty big game against against the Tampa Bay Box. And
we'll get into that here a little bit. It's a
lot of things to like, a couple of things not
to like, and we'll get into some of that stuff.
I'm looking forward to them continuing to build off the
performers that they had. Some other news and notes. I

(09:04):
don't know if you guys saw the Washington versus Cincinnati
game yesterday, our buddy coach Pagano obviously on the Washington
Commander staff. You know, the Commanders haven't punted in two
full games. In fact, they haven't turned the ball over either.

(09:27):
Every drive that they've had has ended in a score
or a meal down to close out a half for
a game. And that is that is an absolutely incredible
stat I mean, doing that for one game, that's pretty cool.
Doing it for two games in a row is I mean,
that's very rare air. And so I wonder if if
they can pull it off for a third time next week.
We'll see how that goes. The Cincinnati's in trouble at

(09:50):
oh and three, Jacksonville in trouble at oh and three.
Perhaps interesting that both those offenses are run by the
Taylor brothers, Zach Taylor, the head coach the Cincinnati Bengals,
and Press Taylor of the offensive coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Maybe apropos of nothing, but both teams off to a
disjointed zero to three start, where the offenses have not
looked perhaps as crisp as they have in the past.

(10:14):
The Bills absolutely dominated the Jaguars last night it was
that wasn't even a game. It wasn't even a game
by halftime. Trevor Lawrence eventually stepped out, was replaced by
Mac Jones, came in and didn't look all that great
in relief. I mean, it was garbage time stuff. But

(10:37):
it's always interesting to sort of see, you know, how
those things go. It's just it's fascinating to me because
the Jags look like they have the pieces, right, the
Jaguars look like that they've got the pieces, but for
whatever reason, it doesn't look right. I mean, it just doesn't.

(10:58):
Trevor Lawrence is a quarterback that is more talented than
what's going on there. And whether it's Doug petersoner Press Taylor,
or the offensive line or the skill position, but what
do you want to call it? And I don't think
it's the offensive line or the skill position players and
the running backs. That is an offense that just does
not look right. And it's funny because they it's one

(11:22):
of those things where the the parts are not greater
than the whole, you know, or that maybe in this case,
the parts are greater than the whole because when you
when you put them together, it it just doesn't look right,
And I mean, it's it's fascinating that it goes back
to something somebody's telling me the other day about some
organizations and how it doesn't matter what they do, they

(11:49):
can't get out of their own way. Organizations can't get
out of their own way and hinder oftentimes what could
be very successful football teams. This person was specifically talking
about Cincinnati number of years ago. But Cincinnati's experienced some
success since then, and you know, Jacksonville has had success before.
But seod Con came out and laid the gauntlet down.

(12:12):
It talked about how you know this this is the
best team on paper that they've had, that they're all in.
This team is going to the playoffs or they're or
they're you know, stripping it down. And you know, it
makes me wonder, like what is next for the Jacksonville
Jaguars because I don't think that Doug Peterson is the guy, right.

(12:34):
I mean, we saw an epic collapse by the Jags
last year. It's just a team that it can't get
out of their own way, and you look at it
this year and it's just bad. It's bad on defense.
I can't do anything that brought in Ryan Nielsen. They
can't do anything. You can't stop any buddy, You can't
you can't score. And then you know, I made a

(12:56):
joke on Twitter last night because they're playing was having
some mechanical issues. They couldn't get out of Buffalo until
well after one am, and so I made some joke
on Twitter about even the Jags plane doesn't want to
give them a touchdown tonight, and which of course took off,
and I, you know, I it's just it's just funny.

(13:17):
Like it's not funny if you're a Jags fan. It's
probably not funny if you're a Jags fan. It's not
fun if you're a Jags player. But as you watch
sort of the ineptitude continue to manifest itself, I mean,
it just it it hurts your heart. You know, you
got guys, you got plenty of guys there, you got talent,
you got guys that want to go out and ball
out and uh and then you get absolutely just punched

(13:39):
in the mouth by the Buffalo Bills. I mean, the
Bills are a good football team. So there's there's no
shame in losing to a good football team, but to
lose in the manner that you did and be completely
outclassed and not look like you play in the same league.
It looks like it looked like an SEC team up

(13:59):
against the you know, at Division three school, like this
is professional football. They're supposed to be a parody here,
but there really wasn't. And so you know, we watched
a shellacking on the other side of it. You know,
I've talked about Washington's offense, and of course Dan quinn
is the head coach of the Washington Commanders are our
ol buddy coach John Pcgonnell's on the staff there, so

(14:21):
we you know, we kind of root for them a
little bit obviously if they're not playing or affecting the Broncos.
And so, you know, I thought Washing was a good
sleeper team this year, but that looks like they might
have some things that that they've sort of turned around
a little bit. They got some problems on the defense
and they're gonna have to get better personnel in there.
But the offense is has got some pieces and Jaydon Daniels, boy,

(14:45):
I tell you, for a rookie quarterback, it's he and
bow I thought bow Nicks had had the best rookie
quarterback day up to that point, and Jayden certainly surt
passed in primetime on Monday Night Football. Some of the
biggest knocks on him or with any when he ran
he didn't slide, and well he started sliding in that game, sorry,

(15:08):
protecting himself. So I think for me, as I look
at these four teams that played last night, and with
the Broncos places in that pecking order, I you know,
it gives you hope. I don't think Jacksonville might be
the worst team I've seen play this year. And that's
not to say they can't turn it around, because again,
they've got pieces. There are teams that on paper are

(15:32):
definitely worse than they are. You know, you look at
New York, you know, Chicago, there's another one that's I
don't have to get to that, you know eventually. But
New York looks like a bad football team. New England
looks like it's going to be a bad football team.
In New England at least has a good defense. But
you know, there are teams that on paper look significantly
worse than Jacksonville, and for whatever reason, they just they

(16:01):
just can't get it together. In my opinion, that falls
on coaching. In my opinion, the things that are fundamentally
flawed and or wrong with them have to do with coaching,
and so we'll see if Doug Peterson is one of
the first coaches let go this season. My money was
on Nick Sirianni. We'll see. The Eagles got the win

(16:24):
against New Orleans this weekend, although Sirianni took points off
the board before the half and sick in my head,
we come back. I want to sort of get into
the Broncos Bucks game and do a final recap, put
a hat on it before we start looking forward to
the New York Jets game this weekend. Broncos obviously out
there in West Virginia right now, stay on the East coast,

(16:45):
so we come back. We'll get into that right here
on Broncos Country Tonight. Listen to Kawa Say fifty am,
Night four ONEFM News Talk Sports. Welk back to it
Broncos Country Tonight, Benjamin all right here with you. Short
show post Rockies edition. We'll have another one of these
tomorrow and again we'll have a full show on Thursday,

(17:05):
myself Nick ferguson Live from out there at Sam's Number three.
Looking forward to that on Thursday, and in a short
show on Friday, You guys want to get out to
these these Rockies games, last couple of home games, obviously
if Charlie Blackman's career. We talked about that in the
last segment. You guys want to get out there for those.
I would imagine you probably want to get tickets now

(17:28):
before anybody else can. You know, gonna be a probably
going to be pretty packed house for that last home
game as they say goodbye, the Don Baylor tradition of
the you know, walking around thanking the fans and all that,
and you'll probably you probably want to make a memory
of that. So just my two cents on that. I
want to talk a little bit about the Broncos win

(17:49):
over the Tampa Bay Bucks. I had this one called
entirely wrong. I predicted a twenty six to ten Tampa
win instead of was a twenty six to seven Denver wins. So,
you know, I could sit here and claim I accidentally
put the wrong team in there, but I think we'd
all know better, So I will just take my lumps
on that one. Bo Nick's twenty five of thirty six,
two hundred and sixteen yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions does

(18:11):
not have a passing touchdown on the season, something that
has never occurred in dever Broncos history, going into your
fourth game of the season with the quarterback not having thrown,
our team not having a passing touchdown. The Broncos not
having a passing touchdown came close in nineteen ninety I believe,
and then one other time, but the date escapes me.
Where they where they had one touchdown going to week four,

(18:36):
they had not in week three and one going to
be four, But no no situations like they have right now.
Bodis does have some some rushing touchdowns obviously, but no
passing touchdowns. I you know, I thought this was the
first time that bow looked like he belonged. This was
the first time the game didn't look too fast for him.

(18:57):
I thought overall, his performance was pretty good. Yeah, a
couple of nitpicky things on some footwork and stuff like that,
But I don't really want to I don't really want
to do that. I'd rather celebrate the win and pick
it apart at this point because I don't think that
this is something that's going to be routine throughout the year.
I think it's gonna be a growing year and there'll
be peaks and valleys. But we got some flashes, you know,

(19:19):
we sort of got some flashes of what this thing
can look like. And I think you have to kind
of take those where you get them. I think you
have to take those moments where you get them, like,
this thing can look good. It might be good down
the line. We might be trending in the right direction.
The question is when we get to the point where
that sort of performance is consistent. Now, there are some caveats.

(19:43):
First of all, Tampa was without its four best defensive players,
and if Broncos fans want to know what that looks like,
cause the first pushback always get well, the Broncos are
the players are out too. Yeah, but this is a
little bit different. Having Mike mcglenchy out and then having
Paul Showsky come in and play it like he did
was basically irrelevant. This is akin to the Broncos having

(20:04):
four starters out like they did in the Dolphins game
last year and they got boat raced. You know, if
you go back and you watch the tape, the first
thing you'll notice is that Tampa got no pressure between
the bag gaps none. They did not get pressure at all.
And it's normally a strength of their team having Vita
Vea in there one of the guys that was out,

(20:25):
that is one of their strengths, you know, there at
the nose, Vitavea, Collegia, Kancy Intoine, Winfield, Bryce Hole, We're
out for this game, and they missed those players. I mean,
Vea is a maller at the nose, and especially Winfield,
Who's who It would be like having Justin Simmons out,
you know when the Broncos were doing that. It's just

(20:45):
you know, he's just a great player, and he's smart
and he lines the defense up and so there is
a caveat to all this that Tampa was missing quite
a bit on the defensive side of the ball. But
I don't want to take anything away from the Bronx
Goes performance in noting that you still have to go
out and beat the players in front of you. The
Bucks certainly rostered the players that were backing up those

(21:07):
players that were playing, so you don't get to use
that as an excuse the same way the Broncos don't
get to use that as an excuse in the drumming
against Miami last year. There are a few things that
I would point to that still bug me a little bit.
I love the fact that the Broncos came out played

(21:29):
with tempo. I loved that they didn't shuffle the personnel
groups as much, and the first time they did they
got an lay a game penalty and then opening drive
you side. I love that. I think we've got to
find a way to commit to running backs a little
bit more. We're rotating them too much where we're getting
frustrated with them too much, and we're not letting them
settle in. Tyler Batty or Bidet or whatever he's calling

(21:51):
himself now led the team in rushing nine carries seventy
yards part most of that came out of forty three
yard carry, and he's been the explosive guy. And I'd
love to see him get five d eight touches a
game because I think that's more his role. But he's
not really built like a lead back, and I'm not
sure that he can he's capable of necessarily being that guy.
We'll see Javante I thought looked pretty good. He had

(22:14):
broken one tackle on that rip move and and looked
pretty good. He broke out another one when he fumbled
the ball. He started he was starting to run a
little bit more violently. It just felt like he just
needed to kind of sort of give him the ball
a few more times, let him rip one off, and
of course we didn't do that. He did have four
catches for twenty nine yards and five rushes for twelve

(22:36):
but being a nine touch of game guy is not
really Javonte Williams game. You're talking about a guy who
he's fifteen and and they just didn't get him that.
Jaliel five rushes for seven yards, most of which came
on the touchdown scamper where to put the brakes on
and then and then you know, used his explosion to
get to the outside get that touchdown. I with Jaliel,

(22:57):
you know, to me, that is a guy who's a
you know, a five to eight maybe ten touches a
game guy. He did have an extra reception for seven
yards as well, but one point four a carry out
of Jalil is not not getting it done. Javonte two
point four, although I felt like he could have had
more if we just you know, let him let him
get the get it going. It's like a it's a
it's like a train starting up from a dead stop.

(23:18):
Right you get the chew chew shoot and it gets
faster and faster as you you know, as you go along.
And Javonte's kind of that kind of running back, you know,
a guy who you know starts it off, you know,
with the slow and then it gets better and better
and he wears on you as he moves along, because
it was a violent running style. Bonicks again nine carries,
tied for the most rushes and second most yard is

(23:40):
there forty seven yards did have the touchdown, the longest
of which was the twenty two yard run that he had,
and I I loved that the the I hope that
it was him naturally feeling the rush from the backside
when Bulls let his gut by him. I hope that
was the case. I hope it wasn't just luck. I
hope it was him naturally sort of feeling it. But man,

(24:03):
did he look good on that little little bit move
to get away from that takes off and just turns
the jets on and then gets himself down. And you
can't really ask for more from Bownicks than what he
did on that play, And for doing it for a rookie,
I thought that that was very savvy. So I wanted
to make sure we give him his flowers on that

(24:24):
as well a couple other notes. I thought it was
a good game for Courtland Sutton. Seven catches sixty eight
yards off eleven targets. A couple of those balls were
not great throws, but you know, he made something out
of it. It felt like we need to get still
need to get Marvin Mims more involved. They tried to

(24:45):
get Troy Franklin involved late. He had five targets to
catches eleven yards. I did like the fact that they
started off aggressive and attacked the mid and deep game
early rather than waiting until they had to. That's been
another gripe that I haven't really sat there and belabored
because there have been so many others. But you know,
the Broncos were reticent to show anything deep early on

(25:08):
in the first two games, and it would have been
good to do that. Come out the gates and show
a little bit of that so that you've got the
defense thinking about that instead of just going dink and
dnc dink, and then as soon as you get to
the point where you need those deep shots and they're
camped on them and so you know you're not able
to get them. Hopefully, that put enough on tape, and
you know, you got to come out against the Jets

(25:28):
and sort of do the same thing and remind them.
But hopefully that put enough on tape to start getting
defenses to back off camping off a lot of this
underneath stuff that you know they want to do and
help open things up a little bit on the defensive
side of the ball. You know, Andrea Tillman really had
his first action as a Bronco and got two sacks

(25:52):
in that game as the Broncos came away with seven sacks.
Devon Key got a sack, that Benito got a sack,
Zach Allen of course got a sack, John Frankly Myers
got a sack, and then John Cooper, who I want
to talk about a little bit here, got a sack
as well. And Coop is a guy he's got three
sacks on the season already, an eight and a half

(26:14):
sacks last year. You know, he's he's a guy that
you're gonna have to probably pay, and you probably need
to pay him sooner than later. He's outplayed his contract,
you know, his seventh round draft pick, and he has
outplayed what it was the Broncos got him for and
it's not that he's a world beat or anything like that,

(26:37):
but he just does what you ask of him. And
he's been a guy that could set the edge in
the run game, gets you the cleanup sacks, and I
think he's benefiting a little bit from Zach Allen largely
being in front of him and creating pressure and then
he cleans it up. But at the same time, he
does what's asked of him and you don't have any

(26:58):
breakdowns with him. He's been pretty reliable. It's been a
good story. And so you know, Jonathan Cooper, I think,
is a guy you pay now because it's just the
price just goes up from here. Is through three games,
you've got three sacks, you're you're on pace for easily
your best season ever. And last year he had eight
and a half of them. So I hope they pay him.

(27:18):
I hope they get Jonathan Cooper done sooner than later,
because the price just goes up the longer you longer
you wait with him. I think the Broncos defense, top
to bottom, deserves their flowers. I want to talk about
Brandon Jones for half a second, you know, and anytime
you you go to a place and in your place

(27:41):
a legend, and that's what Brandon is here doing. He's
replacing Justin Simmons, right. You know, it's it could be tough.
You're you're living in the shadow of a fan favored,
a great player, those kinds of things. And I think
he's acquitted himself really well. Brendan Jones has come in here,

(28:01):
He's been well spoken, He's done everything everybody asked of him.
He got a little dinged up in camp, but he
comes out. He plays really well in games and you
look and he gets the turnover, gets that interception. You know.
I I think that Brandon Jones has been a very
positive addition to this football team. And one of the
things that I think bugs me a little bit is

(28:23):
we we haven't talked about the defensive additions to this
football team. Everybody's talked about Bo Nicks and drafting Troy Franklin,
Devon Valet and what's Marvin MIM's gonna be and they're
running backs and you know, Luke Wattenberg is he going
to be able to hang with center? And you know,
it's it's there's been a lot of talk about the
offense on this football team, but we we haven't sat

(28:47):
there and really given the defense their flowers. You know,
John Franklin Myers was was a heck of an addition.
Malcolm Roach, you look at we talked about Cody Barton
and they're still looking at inside backers. But you know,
Brandon Jones, you know, there's just there's been some pieces

(29:09):
that they brought in and they they've they've been good.
Brandon Jones played well. John Franklin Myers just played well.
I feel like that this defense, which by every metric
is a top five defense in the NFL right now,
it has nowhere to go but up. I mean, it
feels like that they've got a little bit of room
for growth here to become something even better. And you know,

(29:30):
when I tweeted out to this defense and talked about
on the show that this defense was going to be
a problem for people this season back in training camp,
you know, I saw the potential there. I didn't see
it being this good as fast, and for a defense
that perhaps unfairly has been maligned since early last year
when the Miami debacle happened. Good for them, good to

(29:56):
see the resiliency of what it is now. It's not
like there's a whole lot of different players are So
I mean Kareem Jackson's gone, and Justin Simmons is gone,
Josie Jewel's gone. But the reality is most of this
defense is intact and pretty much the same. Moreau was
platooning the corner two and now Riley moss is and
and Riley I thought played exceptionally well for a third

(30:20):
start the touchdown against that he gave up with Chris
Godwin catching the ball, I mean, Godwin got outside leverage
on him. But you know, I thought, I thought he
played that about as well as he could play it
once Godwin got that that outside leverage, and Baker just
just put the ball in the area where where Godwin

(30:41):
could could get it over the top. So, I you know,
his defense is going to carry this football this year.
But we saw flashes, or we got glimpses of what
it is that this offense can be. When bow Nicks
and Sean Payton they're clicking, right, Sean Peyton put his

(31:01):
ego aside for a minute, quit doing a million personnel shuffles.
They're getting the call out quicker playing with Tampa. When
you saw what happens, you get bo Nicks to the
line early where you can see what's going on, and
it's a world of difference. It is an absolute world
of difference. When he's got the time to sit there

(31:23):
and kind of process a defense pre snap, he's getting
to the line with twelve eleven seconds left instead of
breaking the huddle. You can see the results. We see them.
We saw them. You know. They came out and punched
Tampa the mouth. I had some friends down there that
were at the game. One of my buddies, you know, guy,

(31:45):
I think most of you know I moved here from Tampa.
One of my my buddies. He was taking his son
to his first NFL football game and he deliberately chosen
the Broncos game because he wanted the Bucks to get
a win, you know, for his first thing. And he
texted me is that you couldn't have given me a
heads up that this was coming, which you know, I

(32:05):
got a good chuckle out of because I did. Nobody
had any clue this was coming, or at least I didn't
have any clue that this was coming. We've seen flashes
of this in camp, we saw flashes of it the preseason,
but we have not seen it in games. Had us
off my hat's off to the Broncos coaching staff, the players.
They did a great job and won and convincing fashion

(32:27):
a great game plan. So whether or not that's Sean
Payton's familiarity with Todd bows scheme, whether it was the
players out for Tampa, whether it was the coming and
descendancy of bon Nicks, and we'll see if that's the case.
They started to played an excellent game, and there are
some things to fix. They've got to find a way

(32:49):
to have a consistent run game. And it's not the
running back skies, like it's not just them, like the
run blocking has not been good. There is not anything
more than a token sort of given to the running
game and in the way that they run, and it's
it's it's imbalanced. You're gonna have to run more than
they do. And he just, I don't know. It feels

(33:11):
like Sean Payton has got a new toy and he
just wants to play with it and doesn't want to
play with the other toys. And that's that's sort of
the problem. So we'll see, got a tough test coming
up against the New York Jets and their defense, and
this will be the fourth different defense that the the
Broncos have faced all four teams play a dramatically different

(33:33):
style of defense. You had Mike McDonald who plays sort
of a Fangio variant. You had Pittsburgh who, you know,
we all know what the Steelers do, which is mostly
man stuff but only sent for. And then you got
Todd Bowles this pass a week because a big Blitzer
wants to send everybody. And then you get Robert Salah
coming up here at a three shell with Ford Allen

(33:54):
Lineman and and then want to get home with those
four and so just wildly different defens is week to week,
a variety of defenses instead of some seeing sort of
the same thing weekend week out. And I think that's
good for the rookie in a lot of ways. I
think that will help bow Nicks. But at the same time,
you know, you'd like to see for this ease of

(34:15):
the Broncos. You'd like to see something where they get
something sort of similar back to back and are able
to kind of you know, solve that and and build
off of it. So you know, we'll see Tomorrow night'll
be an another short show here a k as I mentioned,
and then Thursday night myself, Nick Ferguson at Sam's Number three.
Guys want to come out for that. We get the

(34:37):
stuff and you'll you'll want to get a part of that.
