Speaker 1 (00:00):
Show.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
We got Rockies Baseball coming up top of the hour
seven o'clock, and we will give way to the that
at that point in time. As such, we're gonna get
right to it with a six pack.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Right at six, It's time for the NFL six pack.
I'm gonna track the last year insight and inside information
you can't find anywhere else. I know six the top
six NFL headlines.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
What Jones is now ranked as a top ten quarterback
in NFL dot COM's power rankings by Nick Schuck. Do
you though, think that Daniel Jones has been a top
ten quarterback so far this season? And has Daniel Jones
been the biggest surprise of the NFL season so far?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I think he's been a top one quarterback this season
if we're only going off of this season. The man
hasn't thrown an interception. He leads the NFL just a
debt yards per attempt. He leads the NFL in the
fewest sacks and sack percentage. His quarterback rating is one
hundred and twelve. You know, he's got eight hundred and
fifteen yards already passing. He's passed into the seventy two

(01:05):
percent completion percentage.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Like he's number watched.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Is this baffling as that.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Seems to say.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
He's having a hell of a start to this season.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
In that offense and the culture, maybe the best team
in the league through three weeks. To your point, they've
had an incredible story. Do you think this version of
Daniel Jones was always in there? Or has it just
I don't know, did it take the hard knocks of
losing a job and maybe just all the NFL experience
to get this version of himself to click in or
Shane Stiken's coaching or what Well, we have a track

(01:37):
record to Shane Styke and getting the most out of coaches.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
So there's that.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
But this is the ultimate question, because is this Geno
Smith finding himself somewhere else later or is.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
This Joe Flacco just getting hot for four.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Games, you know, like you did during that playoff run,
just getting red hot for four games inside of an offense.
And that's a question that remains to be seen right now.
He's the best quarterback in football this season. I tend
to believe in a regression to the mean, but Jane
Stype has found a way to maximize his skill set
and tell somebody figures out a way to stop it.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
He's just on a blistering pace.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
And I think if you were to come up for
a number two quarterback or a guy in that debate,
it'd probably be Justin Herbert.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah, I'd be with you on that two. It's a
little Broncos bounce back up. We're a good Justin to
a bat.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Justin here, Justin, that's about to win me some steak dinners.
I sure hope Justin Fields has returned to practice for
the New York Jets that is expected to start Monday
night versus the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
If he here's concussion protocol.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
But with him returning to practice already and it being
a Monday night game, that seems likely. Do you think
we see Fields return to the starting lineup. If so,
how many touchdowns do you think he scores against Miami's
more a bunch of defense? And do you think Fields
will get his first win in a Jets uniform this weekend?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Well, let's back it up here. First things. First, part
of the new concussion protocol clearing is that you have
to have a full practice, So everybody who to the
concussion brok has to clear. Now, that doesn't mean he
won't or will play Monday. The test results after that
practice from today or get evaluated, and then then you
find out if there're a go. So if you go
to full practice tomorrow, then he started. That's when he's starting.

(03:13):
So just just to push the pause on a lot
of optimistic stuff I saw on the internet there today,
I'm like, wait a minute, I'm not trying to throw
water on anything.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
The process is a little different. Just somebody else.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
He will get at least one more start one way
or the other, and Miami's praying he starts. After looking
at what Torod Taylor was doing last week, I think
every one of their opponents at Broncos like, please have.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Him back for London. We'd love to tee off on that.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
As for the rest of it, Goes doesn't have a
win in a Jets uniform. I believe Russell Wilson did
not have a Jowe win in the Giant's uniform.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
Came close zero zero on that front.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
We're tied on the touchdowns, I believe. So I really
need to pray for a Jackson dark Deel injury or
something here. This is about to get up now. I
think I don't know that you're gonna get a win.
I mean, Miami sucks, but justin Field sucks too, so
who knows.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I don't disagree, but I'm holding out the faith and
I would too. How are you? I would? I would
stone face killer. I'd just be like, no, we're winning.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
There's nothing to dispute it at this point, so I'd
be talking and talking at all.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
He's highing the Manning record seven t d's for.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
The season three.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
The Houston Sorry, yeah, no, that is right.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
The Houston Texans surprisingly opted to cut Valuehood trade acquisitions.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
So you got moribund and Ballyhood back to bis if
a sous laying around here somewhere.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Hey, I'm back in my riding game. I've I've been
doing these for a few months now. I'm having fun
with my thesaurus here.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Uh, this is cutting much Ballyhood trade acquisition CJ. Gardner
Johnston CD deuce, making them the latest team to give
up on the talented safety Dimiko Ryans explain the move
by saying, I.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Know what's best for my team. End quote. What do
you make of this move? Where do you think CJ.

Speaker 4 (04:56):
Gardner Johnson lands and how quickly do you think he's
picked up he led back with.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
The Eagles in a couple of weeks.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
As far as the rest of it goes, I mean, yeah,
there's a lot of stuff behind the scenes there. CJ
was a guy who would hang his teammates out to
dry on the field and then blame them for.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Not picking up the slack.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
He's a guy, he's a gambler, loves to jump on
jump routes, jump off balls, and even when he was
tasked with high coverage, he would be down trying to
do those types of things and leave his tater. Seems
to be at a cost some touchdowns, cost some three
touchdowns over the course of the season so far. And
then he gets in the locker room. He's a guy
that points the fingers and not the thumbs, you know,
and so that that became a problem for a Texans
defense that was fine without him last year. Would not

(05:34):
be surprised if they made some calls about our old
friend Justin Simmons.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
We'll see how that goes.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
But yeah, not surprised that that he's cut there and
he'll probably wind up back with the Eagles, the one
place that could actually stomach his antics.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
It's funny because he was taking some shots.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
At the Eagles this offseason, and the Eagles have brought
him back multiple times, but they've also made a point
to get rid of him multiple times. It's interesting how
he is talented enough to keep being invited back different
places or for these these contending teams to keep wanting
to at least roll the dice on him, but also
he wears out his welcome within twelve months every single time.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
It since it's.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
About to be the Deontay Johnson of safeties or what you.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Know, as it were. You know, there are guys that
are supremely talented before.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Whatever reason can't get out of their own ways.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Another one to add the list for.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
Lions offensive coordinator John Morton, former Broncos passing game coordinator,
gave the Browns some bulletin board material this week when
he cast out on the idea Cleveland with stifled Detroit's
offense because quote, they haven't seen a run game like
ours yet end quote. Well, the Lions cracked the Browns
elite defense this week, And what are your early thoughts

(06:50):
on Morten's attempts to replace Ben Johnson in Detroit?

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Early on, it was gross. That first game was terrible.

Speaker 2 (06:56):
Since then they kind of picked things up as they
have discovered the ground game and and and and figured
that out a little bit. They also love to throw
the ball to the backs as well. They got twenty
five pass attempts to between Gibbs and Montgomery and give
Shouldering a load of those. But I think nineteen Yeah,
it's a it's a it's an interesting one two punch
between those guys. Uh and Morton was here when the

(07:19):
Broncos and Sean Payton took on the was part of
that game plan when we took on the Browns two
years ago and used the trap game UH to lure
in that line that Jim Schwartz lined and and that
was one of the one of the most one of
thest coaching clinics I've seen, and frankly there's been too
few of them here, but since Sean Payton's got here,
that was definitely a Sean Payton coaching clinic that all

(07:40):
those guys were in on at that point. John mort
was a part of that brain trust that day. So
I would not be surprised to see them run a
lot of trap uh in that game because it's wildly
effective against what the Browns front four likes to do
that said, I'm not a big fan of you know,
run of my mouth, uh, you know ahead of time.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
Yeah, And he tried to protect himself something and say,
you know, but I have much respect for the Browns defense,
and I felt.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Like respect respect.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
And when they're putting up the bulletin board material, they
don't put the whole quote up.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
They put the juicy up. We don't Madi people know
how to do this.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
They're gonna they're gonna frame the quote to make it his.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Juicies buff or even the coaching staff Jim Swartz is
gonna be like, well, well, let's not get.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
Too fired up guys here. I mean, I mean he
did say we were a very good defense parties. Those
guys says we're trash. He's gonna run buck Wild all
over him.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
And we haven't seen running bats like David Montgommery before that.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Ain't with a velvet painting of a way. Let a
dolphin get it on God.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Speaking of Michaeh Parsons, Micah Parsons will get his revenge
game against the Dallas Cowboys this week as the Packers
fly to Dallas for a Sunday night football duel. Earlier,
this week, Jerry Jones told the media the Cowboys have
no plans of honoring Parsons with any sort of tribute
for his time in Dallas this week. Today, Parsons responded

(08:57):
by saying all he wants from Dallas is and he
doesn't really care whether or not there is a tribute
that aside. Do you think the Cowboys should be doing
a tribute or some sort of gesture to honor parsons
time with the team And how many sacks do you
think Parsons will register in his revenge game?

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Oh, we know Jerry's not going to do that. I
don't think it's responded.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
I don't think a team if it's the next season,
maybe that's different.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
Or if you're a surefire.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
Ring of Famer Paul of Famer, you know Emmitt Smith
coming back with when he was with the Arizona Cardinals,
that's a little different. I don't know that I subscribe
to teams need to do it in the same season
that you traded a guy. I just I don't know that.
I feel like that's a thing. If I'm Michael Parsons,
if it were me, what I would do is on Saturday,
I'm taking out a full page ad in the sports

(09:44):
section that Sunday, and I'm.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Talking out thankful.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
I am the Dallas for all their time and outclassing
you know, everybody else.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
And I'm doing it myself that way, just to.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
Put a little extra needle into you know, into Jerry
right before the game. But otherwise somebody who cares. And
as far as there's if it goes uh, you know,
the Cowboys offensive line is not that bad. They certainly
paved the way for Javonte to have a decent year
so far, and maybe he gets one over.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
This might be a game where he gets a little stemy.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
We'll see and Dak, I think we'll do a pretty
good job getting rid of the baller.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
I think he could see the least.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
I think Michael Parsons will wives go Ronnie Lott and
sever a finger it takes him to try and get
a sack out there.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
I think he might have like six sacks though.

Speaker 4 (10:28):
Yeah, I would not be he will go about foules
to try and get a sack. I think he gets
the least one and really all the revenge he needs,
uh box score a side is just that.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Future Cowboys defense.

Speaker 4 (10:40):
I mean that might be the worst defense in the league,
and they wouldn't be anywhere near that if he was
still on the right.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
That's the thing I mean, I mean, the stats are
pretty clear.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
The Cowboys were one of the better EPA defenses when
when Parsons saw on the field, and the worst in
the league when he was off it when he was there.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
So did you see that he still has a suite
at the Cowboys stadium?

Speaker 5 (10:58):
Does he?

Speaker 3 (10:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (10:59):
Is that not unrefundable? So he bought it at the
beginning of the year, so he's got it for all s.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
Wow, they traded him and wouldn't give his money back
on the Oh my god, Jerry, what do you do?

Speaker 1 (11:11):
You well knew Jimmy Johnson like, and I don't know.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I don't even know what to say to This is stupid,
that's stupid. If you traded a guy, you would give
his money back on a suite because, oh my god, Jerry,
you're an idiot.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Sick.

Speaker 4 (11:28):
I'm surprised to I mean, watching that Cowboys documentary on Netflix,
he has some reflection of like, I need to be
better about these things, and then it seemed like the
moment it aired, he went hard right into his worst
impulses yesterday, the Tennessee just traded cornerback Jarvis Brownley Junior
to the New York Jets, which led to head coach
Brian Callahan having to publicly deny that the team was

(11:52):
having a fire sale of players. Do you believe, Callahan
that the Titans aren't looking to make a series of
additional trades at this point end? Do you think there
are any players on the Titans the Broncos should be
looking to target.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
I do not believe there's a fire sale.

Speaker 2 (12:06):
I believe that they believe in the front office that
the personnel is there or getting there. Uh, there is
going to be some fire rings, and that is going
to be what they're going to do to that coaching
staff at the end of the year. They've already Brian
Callahan already fired himself as play caller and put Ball Hardegree,
the quarterbacks coach, as the as the play caller for

(12:27):
this game. The reason, by the way, I will tell everybody,
the reason that they put him in is the play
caller instead of the offensive cording to Nick Coles, is
that Cardgrey actually has experience calling plays before, where neither
Callahan nor Nickols had ever called a play before. So
that's the reason the quarterback coach is calling plays and
not the offensive coordinator.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
It's rough.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
I mean, you said fired at end of the season,
and I know you mean, I'm wondering, I'm not.

Speaker 1 (12:48):
Fired you early. They don't pay guys to go sit
on the couch. That makes sense. But man, this is
it's It's not Hacket level yet.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Absolutely, it's it's very very people that wanted Brian Callahan here.
You remember this coach with the coaching search. He was
one of the candidates that was interviewed. When Hackett got hired.
There were people up and down the swore that Brian
Callahan was somebody they wanted here.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
And I'm like, man, no, you know this guy.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
I mean, like, aside from you know, maybe getting his
dad who knows how to coach an offensive line, there's
nothing about Brian Callahan I want here. And this is
she had another Peyton Manning recommendation. It didn't pan out, and.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
The Titans offense or the offensive line of it all,
having Brian Callahan, I thought was the most appealing part
of the pitch.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
Or Bill Callahan.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
I having Bill Callahan come along, best offensive line coach
in the league. You saw him take random Brown's fourth
round kicks that had to no notice that they were
going to start, and turn him into functional starters.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
You thought he would do that.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
With Tennessee, their offensive line has been bad again this season.
I like, even the things they're supposed to be able
to hang their hat on aren't working out. It looks
like luckily they've maybe hit on the quarterback. I'm happy
with what I've seen from cam Ward so far. But
outside of that and elec ioa Menor and the beefy
defensive line, everything's wrong with that franchise, right, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
They've got something they need to move off of. This
is you know, Peyton Manning has gone out on a
limb and recommended guys before.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
Callahan was the guy recommended.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Adam Gase was a guy he recommended, you know, those
kind of guy and the guys that he worked with
because he worked with Brian Kelleen here at Denver, because
Callhohun used to be assistant here.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
Under Adam Gase.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
But neither of those guys were head coach, you know,
head coach. Just because you know a guy and they
were your buddies doesn't necessarily mean that they'll workout, Is
you know is his head coaches.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
It was kind of funny as I'm watching one.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Of the coaches that from that same coaching search, the
Hacket coaching searches coaching tonight, Jonathan Gannon, the Arizona Cardinals
or you know, Dan Quinn guys.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I wanted out of that, out of that thing.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
I mean, ultimately we wound up with, I guess with
Sean Payton, which I wanted harbor on that search, but
you know, we couldn't convince him.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
You know, It's just kind of funny.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
That was one of those things that I mean, people
were very upset with me for recommending two defensive guys
and said, oh, we want to hot you know, the
offense and with Callahan Hacket, and we saw how the hot,
young offensive guy is not always the way to go.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
Yeah, finding the right guy for the job not the
right side of the ball. And I think ideally it
is an offensive guy, so you're not having that revolving
door of offensive coordinators.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
But ultimately it's about finding the guy. Yeah, it's finding
the guy that to lead your team.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
And it's fascinating that, uh, you know, it was the
things that I because I was really hammering the Dan
Quinn thing when when Hacker got hired and everybody when
their mama was.

Speaker 1 (15:28):
Like, no retreads, no retreads, and then the next year
we hired a redread.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
So that's what we're doing now. It's just funny how
the pendulum swings.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
I think, yeah, always, I mean we see that oftentimes
with coaching. I mean, if the Dolphins fire Mike McDaniel,
which seems very very likely, I could almost guarantee their
next head coach is going to be the grumpiest, crotchety
as old man out there, Jesse Minterer. So I mean,
but Jesse, Jesse mintro off the Jim Harbaugh tree. I
think it's nice maybe not old, think like they're Fangio type,

(16:01):
you know kind of thing.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Yeah, because that's where McDaniel and as we're a lot
of young coaches uh tend to fail in their first
go round. Too much of a player's coach. I'm not
going to be the I'm not going to be the
a hole that my you know, my boss was to
these guys. I'm gonna go out there and be there
and you can't you have to kind of you can't
do that.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
You have to be a CEO.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
You got to be a you know, a leader of man,
and that's going to require you to to be uh,
you know, kind of crotchety and stuff like that. Sometimes
there are guys that can get away with being, you know,
being a player's coach and things like that, but you
have to delegate them the discipline down to your coordinators.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
They've got to be the guys that.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Are going to crack down and and be You have
to have disciplinarians somewhere in there. There's got to be both,
you know, you learn that the football fielder and the army.
You learn that life. You can be friendly with with
your subordinates, but you've got the fun. There's got to
be somebody in there that's the disciplinarian. Yeah, and you
got to find the fun and the the harshness. You know,
if Sean Payton came in, I was worried and.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
Maybe he's a little too old school, a little too harsh,
a little too disciplinarian. But you know, I yet to
hear players say many bad things about him, even dating
back to his New Orleans days. Not many of those
former players will will trash him or say any negative
things like lear about Belichick and you got club dub
and all that and the fun stuff.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yeah, it's you know, it's interesting to watch it. McDaniel,
too much old players coach and too much of a
push over there. Like they fired the one guy that
was a disciplinarian there in Vic Fangio, and then we
saw what happened. Yeah they did. The Fanji goes to
the and wins to the Super Bowl and the Dolphins
fall off, you know, And that's the thing.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Look at Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Whatever you think of Eric, the enemy in him not
being there, Kansas City had been the same sense, you know.
And I don't think much of Eric bannamin is offensive
coordinator as a head coach, but him being on your
staff is inherently valuable because he brings a toughness.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
It's funny how that Miami thing's gone ever since the
seventy to twenty game. I don't think anyone saw that
these two franchises would be where.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
They are right now relative to each other after that,
opposite trajectories.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Just funny how that stuff goes, Zach, I appreciate you
jumping on here as as always, guys, we've got Rick
Lewis coming up with our what the Funk segment? Next
right here on Brokos Country Tonight.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
With the Funk with.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Rick Lewis your color analysts from the never Broncos.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Rick, what the funk is going on? Money?

Speaker 7 (18:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (18:17):
Man, Ricky Liu and the Funky Bunch, Benjamin Albright and
Grant Smith.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Let's do this man, that's what.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
That's what I'm calling you from now on is Ricky
Lie And let's get some good vibrations going here. I
you know, we got a game coming up on Monday
night against the Bengals team that well, we saw this
thing at first with Joe Burrow humming in there, maybe
we were a little nervous. But now with Jake Browning,
this thing on paper looks like a beatdown for the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
For me, Yeah, and what the funk?

Speaker 5 (18:46):
I'm looking at Jake Browning, Ben and he's completed seventy
percent of his passes, but lead to the league in
picks with five It's like it's almost like he's either
completing a pass or an interception. There's no regular incompletions
with this guy. And you know we've seen him play

(19:06):
well when Burrow's gotten hurt in the past, so I
wouldn't sleep on Jake Browning. I think he's a really
good backup quarterback. He's just really struggling right now, and
the Broncos need to make sure he continues to struggle
and he keeps those picks coming too.

Speaker 7 (19:23):
We'll take a couple of those picks on Monday night. Yeah,
we will absolutely do that. Browning is the guy who
doesn't have the strongest arm in the world. Got a
little bit of a wind up as far as that
stuff goes.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
But we have seen him be effective in spots, you know,
previously in relief of Joe Burrow. But you know, the
thing they had back then, as I pointed out the
riot itwards that they don't have now. They had Joe
Mixon in prime form back then two years ago, when
Browning looked like something else.

Speaker 1 (19:46):
He ran for over a thousand yards that year.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
He had like ten touchdowns, got another, you know, fifty
receptions something like that. He was a prime weapon in
that offense. They don't have any semblance of a run
game right now. And I talked to somebody on that
staff yesterday. They suggested that there was going to be
a commitment to the ground game, and they felt like
they'd identified something that was going to help them be
better on the ground in this game.

Speaker 1 (20:04):
I don't know what that.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Could possibly be because I just watched that Minnesota game
and it sure didn't look like they had any semblance
of a ground game there.

Speaker 5 (20:11):
Yeah, we talked about that yesterday. I don't see it either.
They have the lowest graded offensive line in the NFL.
They can't run, they can't pass protect. This should be
a big, big game for Benito Cooper Ellis. Those guys
were probably gonna feast on Monday Night. And like you been,

(20:33):
when you look at the game on paper, it looks
like the Broncos probably clown hammer these guys on Monday
night football in front of everybody. Right. I'm trying to
work that word in as much as I can. Yes
here for it, and maybe I could get it in
during the broadcast Monday night too. But yeah, on paper,
this looks like a get right game for the Denver Broncos. However,

(20:57):
I have a feeling, especially after what you told me yesterday,
the Bengals are looking at this game as their get
right game against the Denver Broncos. We know the Broncos
have struggled on both sides of the ball, special teams,
everything they haven't played a complete game yet. We haven't
seen the best of this Denver Broncos football team. And

(21:18):
yet they're one and two and they barely lost to
two undefeated teams. So once the Broncos get it going,
I think you're going to feel pretty good about this
football team.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
Again.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
I know a lot of people in Broncos country have
already pushed the panic button, and I get it, But
I think this team is going to turn it around,
and it's going to start Monday night.

Speaker 6 (21:40):
Rick, flipping to the other side of the ball, what
have you seen in your prep for the game from
the Bengals defense under first year defensive coordinator Al Golden
coming from Notre Dame, And how do you think the
Broncos attack them on Monday Night?

Speaker 5 (21:52):
Well, their secondary is really depleted. So once again going
back to a beatdown game, as we reference, this should
be a good game for bon Nicks as well. Broncos
should be able to run against them, should be able
to throw against them. Really, when you look at it,
I can't see a scenario that the Bengals come.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Out on top in this game.

Speaker 5 (22:14):
That might be close early like a lot of NFL
games are, and as they say, on every given Sunday
or in this case, Monday, any team can beat any
team in the National Football League, So you can never
take these guys for granted. But this should be a
game where the Broncos score over thirty points. The Bengals
are giving up on average over thirty points a game.

(22:35):
I think the Broncos will score more than that, and
I think we'll all be happy when we go home
on Monday night.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
I'm already clear there, but hoping that that's the case.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
Rick lewis color analyst to the Denver Broncos joining us
for is Annuel what the funk segment?

Speaker 4 (22:48):
Rick?

Speaker 1 (22:48):
What the funk you got going on this weekend?

Speaker 2 (22:50):
Man?

Speaker 5 (22:51):
This weekend, we got a big show. Saturday night. We're
going to be at the Little Bear in Evergreen, and
I want to think the Denver Bos to the Denver
Broncos sent over a Zach Allen signed jersey yesterday for
us to auction off on Saturday. Yeah. Man, this thing
is badass, very very cool, and so there'll be a

(23:11):
silent auction. All the proceeds, ticket sales, all of that
going to Evergreen Strong to keep it in the community.
And it's going to be a night of music and
healing with my band, The Rick Lewis Project. Get your
tickets at littlebar live dot com for a great cause.
I know Ben. Ben's gonna be there Saturday night. Ben's

(23:33):
gonna help me. He's my amateur drum tech. And make
sure you're ready, Ben, because I'm really counting on you
for this gig. So don't be licking any door knobs
between now and then. We can't have you get sick again.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Yeah, I've been I've been stretching, I've been taking my
Vitamin C, my vitamin D, a vitamin K. I'm ready
to go for this thing. I'm I'm fully vitamined up
and ready to go.

Speaker 5 (23:54):
Good man, we're gonna have a good time too. So
come on out, people. Let's let's help the community of
Evergreen heal. Let's get it going. They just started back
in school. The community is still in a state of shock.
Saturday night's going to be a beautiful night.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
Yeah, come on out and celebrate the town of Evergreen
and help them help them heal. Yaco Broccos got a
heel on offense and defense. It's been two losing efforts
in a row. Last second snatching defeat from the jaws
of eminent victory against the Colts and against the Chargers.
If this thing goes awry, I don't think we see

(24:27):
that it's going to head that way. But if we're
wrong on this and this thing goes awry, where does
this team go from there? I mean, at that point
you're one to three, headed to Philadelphia and then London.
How can this team get back on track?

Speaker 6 (24:40):
You know what?

Speaker 5 (24:41):
I hate to even think that way, Ben because they
don't think it's going to go that way. If by
some chance, you know, the ball takes some funny bounces
and the Broncos turn the ball over and commit ten
penalties again and lose to the Bengals, I would say
this football team has at least one, maybe two wheels.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
They came off the track.

Speaker 5 (25:04):
That's not a good sign going into Philly to play
one of the best teams in the league. Then you
go on the road to London to play a game
against the Jets, which you should win. The schedule kind
of lightens up after this week, so I think you
go out, you take care of businesses home. The Broncos
have been really good at home with bon Nicks at

(25:25):
quarterback and you beat the Bengals. Now you're two and two,
and we'll see what happens in Philly. Anything can happen.
I think this game is going to give the Broncos
a whole lot more confidence on offense in particular. And
that's what you mean by a get right game. This
is gonna get the Broncos right. There's gonna get them confidence.

(25:46):
It's gonna get bon Nick some confidence. He's been pressing,
he's been rushing too much, and he needs to settle
down a little bit and get his mechanics back in order.
And we want to see the Bonicks we saw the
last eight games of season, and that bon Nicks is
the guy you're going to see on Monday Night.

Speaker 6 (26:04):
So Rick, you're not worried about the sophomore slump taking
around with bon Nicks. You think after Monday Night, we're
going to see the bow of the last latter half
of last season, where he's putting up Rookie of the
Year conversations and putting up great numbers.

Speaker 2 (26:17):
I do.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
I think it's too early for the sophomore slump. This
is kind of how bon Nicks looked at the beginning
of last year. You know, I think Sean Payton's put
a lot on his plate and he's done that because
Sean Payton thinks that Bonnicks can handle it, and we
have to trust that and bon Nicks is going to
figure it out. Just settle down a little bit, man,

(26:39):
You're just he's like he's too jacked up and it
shows in his play. Now he's made some good throws too,
and he's made some good plays. He's starting to make
plays with his legs again, which is I think one
of his best weapons, and that can bail him out.
You know, when you get in a little bit of
a slump throwing the football and you're capable of running

(27:00):
the ball like bone Nicks, man take advantage of that,
and he started doing that a bit against the Chargers,
had that really nice run that came up just short
of the first down. That would have been a game
changer right there. But yeah, run the ball, man, don't
be afraid to pull it down and run when you
have the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (27:18):
Looking forward to that on Monday night yourself, Dave Logan
on the call there, Rick Han them one more time
with what's going on on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (27:26):
Saturday night, Little Bear in Evergreen a legendary music venue.
Rick Lewis Project proceeds go to Evergreen Strong. It's a
night of music and healing. Showtimes at six. Rick Lewis
Project will start at eight. Get your tickets at little
bearlive dot com. It's not a huge venue. Make sure

(27:47):
you get your tickets and you'll see me and Ben
out there Saturday night.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
Looking forward to a brother, looking forward to getting out there,
getting some beats and they get your drum set up
and having a great show.

Speaker 5 (27:56):
Sounds good man, Thanks for having me on.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Go Broncos, absolute brother, Take care. Rick Lewis doing his
Annuel What the Funk segments seven forty. First pitch there
expected to be uh, Blaylock versus hancocking that one Blaylock
two and five with a nine point one six e

(28:19):
r RA and got of course four five five point one.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
Three e r A.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
For the Mariners, Steve Calroy could add to that impressive
home run home runs.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
He could break the record, could break the record, he
could do it tonight. There Yeah, there was uh because
I think he's win's their last game Tuesday, something like that. Yeah,
they'll have three more games after tonight.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
Yeah, there was there were some bets out there like
if he breaks the record, what day would be?

Speaker 1 (28:46):
That kind of stuff. So there's uh rest of money
on tonight. What's he need three?

Speaker 2 (28:50):
I think three to break the al side of things.
I don't think he's gonna break the but the the
al side of things. Because Judge had sixty two. He's
a Carora.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
He said, it's sixty.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
And you've got, like I said, you got Bradley Blaylock
pitching for the Rockies, who's not exactly an impressive pitcher.
Two wins, five losses, nine point one sixty twenty six case,
twenty one walks in fifty five innings pitch. He's also
giving up sixteen home runs in fifty five innings.

Speaker 6 (29:24):
I got a question for you, you know, at the
talk all year was you know the Rocky is going
to be the worst team in baseball history. Do you
think there's any pride that can be taken with getting
to forty three wins? Or do you think it's just
like they're like, this is still embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
I think they were still fighting to that point. I
don't think they're fighting. I mean, he didn't even look
like they were fighting anymore. You gotta fight guys with Yeah,
you got a few guys out there, Crim Krim, you know,
who's getting some some major league at bats for the
first time. Looks like he's out there fight because he
knows he's got a future. But there's a lot of
guys out there, like the team's got three guys to
build a r It's it. You know, a lot of
these guys could wouldn't or shouldn't be here, you know,

(29:59):
you being triple A or double A ball just about
anywhere else. Who was it? What was the picture we
traded to the Yankees and then he wound up?

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Was it Jake Bird?

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Yeah, you know, it's it's just it's fascinating to watch
the guys that are the you know, you know, even
just the the what you would say, the best players
here and then what they're able to what they do elsewhere.
I think he only got two innings with the Yankees

(30:30):
before they get demoted him.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
That's not a good sign. Yeah, the Rocky's traded him
Warren Schaeffer back next year. God I doubt it not
As the manager. I like his attitude.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yeah, I mean it's a little different in baseball because
you're not there's not as much x as and Oh yeah,
you just you gotta be more of a you know,
a gut guy, feeling when to make lineup or pitch
and changes that kind of thing. So maybe, I mean,
you know, maybe in that regard, but it feels like
you'd want to clean house and and have you know,
because if you have the knew anything, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (31:01):
I don't feel like you can.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
I feel like maybe you keep him on staff.

Speaker 6 (31:05):
Yeah, I mean maybe if they would have got to
like sixty wins after that horrible start, you see some optimism.
But I mean it's not like after the All Star
break they came out a little bit hot, but then
after that it's been back to the same old Rockies.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
Yeah, I mean Bud Black was seven and thirty three,
Warren Saffer's thirty six and eighty two. It's not appreciably
better about the same anyway. Rockies baseball cut up there,
don't win any tonight.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
I'll take it the Rockies right here.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
O k wag the long ball clown hammer. These guys
