I love BCT and we'll get you some of these.

prize winner gets one thousand dollars MasterCard gift card courtesy
of Verizon, Presented by Verizon, the official five G network
of the Denver Broncos and Nick, you know, we had
a tough task looking forward to the New York Jets already,
(00:43):
but now we've got Alex Singleton out for the year,
and he was a big part of what the Broncos
defense has been doing early on. I don't think he
gets enough credit for being what he is as in
terms of a sideline to sideline and and blitz the quarterback,
you know kind of linebacker. How are le Broncos going
to make up for that speed on the field and that,
(01:03):
you know, institutional knowledge in this defense, They're.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Gonna have to do it by committee.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
And what I mean by that is with Alex being
out for the entire season, you're gonna have to get
Cody Barton to step up.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
And that's a great thing.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
The fact that Cody was here during Cranty camp, so
he has some familiarity obviously with the defense and just kind.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Of being a leader.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
And when you have that green dot on your head,
it says a lot about who you are and trust
that the organization.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Has in you.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
For me, I think about you know, guys I've played with,
like Al Wilson being able to get the defense lined
up and this.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
This week is gonna be a tough task.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
I mean, you get Brayln Allen and you get Breize Hall,
who has been successful every time he's played against the
Denver Broncos and known as though your tackling machine. And
Alex Singleton is out for the season. Now you put
a lot of pressure on those guys in interior to
be able to stuff those a gaps, funnel everything out side,
and allowed the linebackers to run and hit.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
How much it was the new surprising to you when
you heard it, because you know Alex who injured his
ACL on the Brandon Jones interception play. You can see it.
You go back and watch take you can see him
pull up with it, continue to play the rest of
the game with the person of toward a cl.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well, you know what that was somewhat surprising. But knowing
Alex Singleton, how he came into the league, grinding in
the CFO, being a special teams player, finding his way
on the Philadelphia Eagles or roster, finding his way here
with the Denver Broncos and being able.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
To carve out some time and then turn into a starter.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
To me, that tells me a lot about the person
and Ben, I've been through this situation before, not an
ACL but a meniscus tear. To basically break it down
for you and the listeners, it's just like going out
playing with that having breaks. Yeah, that's kind of what
it's like. And the one thing is you wonder about
(03:06):
lateral movement. Now, your movement can be vertical, but once
you start you know going to the left or right.
It makes it really difficult for you. So it says
a lot about Alex as a player is paying threshold.
And the biggest thing is when you suffer an injury
like that, does the nis swell. That's the first thing
(03:26):
you worry about when I tore my moniscas and I'm
playing against Philip Rivers and Ladinian Thomason.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
So when you talk about ladder quickness, that was out of.
Speaker 3 (03:34):
The window because that's that was Ladaniel Thomason game. But
you find a way to kind of fight through it.
You look at your teammates, you know how important the
game is. And that was a game that the Broncos need.
And I know that sounds really crazy considering the fact
that we're in Week four and calling any week a
desperation game, but that was a game that the Broncos
needed and Alex, you know, came up and you have
(03:56):
to wonder if Alex comes out of that game, is
it an injury where he can get get it surgically
repair and he returns back to the season, that that's
probably something that he's probably thinking about.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Now. Well, that's where I was going with that is
just uh, you know, the the constant asking football is
are you injured or you hurt?
Speaker 3 (04:14):
You know, well, see that's not a serious question to
you know, you know what I mean football.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
But even though they do ask that.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Right, but even when you are injured, you're gonna tell them,
you know, you always get.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Your legs, fall it off, you know, but a scratch, yeah, money,
python or whatever. But it's it's I mean, it is
tough because you don't want to pull yourself off the field.
The last thing you want to do is ferguson, come
come take my job, you know, And so you know,
I sort of get it from that perspective, But there
also is that that, you know, that mentality that that
maybe the best thing to do in this situation was
(04:46):
pull yourself off the field at a game you were
winning and winning handily, and and allow you know, and
and and get some you know, get some looks at
that thing.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
See, if you can't get back this season, that's not
how this works. I mean, even when I injured my knee,
they checked that structurally nothing was wrong with it, but
physically I knew that something was wrong with it because
of a shift out and kept shifting in and out.
But when you look at your teammates, you look at
your coach. It's hard to not go back out there
and just say, you know what, I'm going to lay
it on the line. If I'm gonna be carried off,
(05:15):
they're gonna carry me out on my shield. That's that's
kind of the idea. And Alex Singleton is cut from
that same clop. Did he know that when he was
walking off the field that something was wrong?
Speaker 2 (05:25):
You always know. But at the same time, I mean,
you're a player. I mean, I don't want to.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Say there's a difference between Hell, forget it, there's a
difference between guys who are drafting the guys who are undrafted.
Because you wear that on your sleep every single time,
and because you went through that tough time getting to
the league, you feel as though you're obligated to be
out there, even if you know that you should not
be out there. And that's the thing that people may say, well,
that's a dumb thing to do, But you're.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Not gonna get the opportunities you weren't draft. It's fair
or not, you're you're not gonna get the opportunities as
somebody was drafted is gonna get You're not.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
And once again, That's how Alex got to where he
was as a player. That's how I got to where
I was as a player, willing to push through that
physical emotional threshold that most players are not willing to
push through. Because look, man, there's a lot of people
in this restaurant right now. If you ask them if
they were going through pain, could they push through it
to accomplish a goal? Some will probably say no, you
(06:21):
know why, it is too difficult.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
If I turn my ac I'm not coming into you
know right now. I know I've been lucky throughout my life.
I've never had any kind of major injury like that
at all years of football. Throw used the army wait
to give the questions.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
But beyond that, no major real So you've never torn
and ligament in your in your arm, your elbow, your finger.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
No, I mean I've got some compression of my spine
and all that kind of like you know, just wear
and tear all the body. But no, no major injuries
like a torn anything or any that kind of stuff.
You are so incredibly lucky, lucky. We were talking about
it because I just realized that I didn't even he
didn't conceptualize it. I realized it Today when I was
sit over there talking to our promo person, Sarah, and
we're talking about injuries and all that, I was like,
(07:05):
you know, I never had a major at the concussions,
but I never had a major injury, you know what.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I Steve Fola, who's going into the Ring of Fame
on October six, make sure you guys are in the
stadium for that. I had a chance to talk to him,
and I guess, just like you, he's never really had
a major injury. And this is a guy that went
from playing quarterback to being a defensive back in the NFL.
And that was at a time where it was off
(07:32):
as you.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Could legally murder someone on the field.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yes, try it was, but you know it's it's this
is a tough situation that the Broncos find themselves in.
But hey, here's here's a positive side of it. It
gives someone else an opportunity to step up in that
dressing stranade. I know he's been waiting for this opportunity.
It gives him that opportunity because my opportunity starting the
league came like with the Jets and with the Denver Broncos,
(07:57):
when someone else got injured right, And once I got in,
I never give it back, right.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
So now Justice Shrenat has an.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Opportunity to really put himselves on the map and put
not only Alex Singleton in a tough spot, but the
Denver Bronco's in a tough spot as far as trying
to figure out personnelity.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
And that was where I was leading with this. Anyway, Next,
I mean, we sort of know what Cody Barton is.
He's been around the league a little bit. There is
a you know, a sense of you know, his ability
to understand things. But athletically he's not the same player
that Alex Singleton is. Very few are. Extranad is probably
closer to that. So at this point, what do we
do about the green dot?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Well, I mean, obviously Cody Barton gets the green dot
unless something happens and he gets deemed up in the
game against the Jets and they have to give it
to Justine Shrenad.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
But that's where you go with it.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
But I go back to the fact of this is
why haveing depth is so important. Like, coming into training camp,
there are a lot of questionable.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Spots on the Broncos rosters.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
We were looking at what the running back room was gonna.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Look like the wide receivers.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
But the biggest thing when you shift to the defensive
side of the ball was line back. Do you have
adequate depth at the linebacker position to get the Broncos
where they want to? And you know, all credit due
to the guys on the defensive side of the ball,
advanced Joseph because that dude has taken a lot of strays,
but that defense has played well. And I don't see
(09:18):
that many people giving him his flowers and praising him
because I get how the NFL works, Everything is about
the quarterback position. The Broncos won their first game on
the row and everyone is talking about Bowl.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
But on this show Broncos Country.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Tonight, I'm gonna make sure that people know and recognize
what Vance is doing.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
To give him his flowers.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Yeah, and I felt that last year when they had
the winning stretch, a lot of that was propelled by
the defense and what a turnaround they had made from
that Miami debacle to become what they became in that
stretch down the way. And you know, they continued that
this year. Their top five, top three and most most
defensive metrics around the league. They're they're playing really well, Well,
I'm gonna.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Toss this out there.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
I mean, if this defense, no matter how the season
ends up, right from a record standpoint, if the defense
continues on this trajectory, even with Alex Singleton being out
come twenty twenty five, watch Vance name come up again.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
As far as being a head coach and the n.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
IF, I think he's gonna get some interviews in this cycle.
I mean, I do believe that he will. Whether or
not he gets a job this cycle remains to be seen.
I mean, there's gonna be some hot names. We know
Bobby Slowik and Ben Johnson.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Is always going at the damn offensive ploye coordinator, right.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
We know Drew Petsing will probably get some of the
Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator. There are there are several names
out there I think that that are gonna be. But
I think Vance, Joseph something previous experiences a head coach
maybe learn from those mistakes. Look at Rahee Marsh. You
know dinnered Atlanta very well. He was you know, he
(10:47):
was probably a head coach. Too young there in Tampa,
I would agree, probably too young, and you know, but
but he had took him a while working through the
defensive side and all that kind of stuff. But he
comes back and now he's a head coach in the Atlanta Falcons,
and you know, I, I like, I'm a big Righemors fan.
I love to see what he's doing there. But I
would love to see that that continue. You don't get
a whole lot of head coaches from the defensive side necessarily.
(11:10):
All of this past cycle. We got there. We got
Dan Quinn, we have Michael McDonald, and we had some
some defensive coaches coordinators getting head coaching this secle.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
But the reason why this'd be totally honest because everyone
build an NFL as a quarterback driven league and owners
who I don't believe own they made no business, but
they don't know the ex's and o's of football. So
they're saying, okay, well, they're trying to make two plus
two equal four. And I get the math portion of it,
but they're saying, Hey, if I have a quarterback and
(11:37):
he's deemed to be the most important player, I need
someone to be the head coach who could work with
him all the time.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
But here's what happens with that.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
You have offensive coordinators who become head coaches, but they
get so and thallved with the game that the precise
execution they're used to as an oc it's not there anymore.
We've seen so many coaches go through that. But having
a demons of mind to coach. Here's why it works
because think about I go back to Tom Brady being
with Bill Belichick. Bill Belichick would pull Tom Brady in
(12:05):
the room, they would go over film, and that helped
tom Brady's development. So having a defensive coordinator as a
head coach it does prove to be an asset because
that quarterback can now talk to that defensive coordinator and
that coordinator can help him.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Here's what you're going to see defensively, here's.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
How you attack certain defensive sets right. And this is
why I still believe there's an opportunity. Like what Brian
Floores is doing up with the Minnesota Vikings is extraordinary. Well,
he's gonna be another guy come twenty twenty five, he's
going to be in that cycle two to be a
head coach.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Probably. Of course, he still has the specter of the
lawsuits in the Miami situation all that they need to
get to get that done.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
First of all, first of all, here's what I know owners.
Owners don't like distractions, right, right, but they like to win, right.
So if you if you take everything that Brian Floers
he's gone through. He goes to Minnesota, they lose their
first round draft pick, they go to the second guy
and Sam Donald, they're playing the way that they're playing.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
And he just.
Speaker 3 (13:00):
Did what he did against San Francisco and uh, the
Houston Texans, who was the NFL dogon last year.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
There's no way you can't tell me.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Even if he is not added on to a team
as a head coach, he is going to get a
couple of interviews with Mexico.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Absolutely. I think the main hurdle I think dam getting
a job at this point. He's just having those things
sitting out there. Once those are settled, I think the
roads pay for him to, you know, to get back
in there and be a head coach and get another
get another show.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
You need to.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Stephen Ross will just go admit that he tried to
bribe his head coach by saying, hey, listen, you know what,
take this money. We want to lose enough game, so
we allhead and do that, like to get a better traffick.
But Stephen Ross is obviously not going going to going
to do that, but to overlook what Flores is going
(13:50):
to overlook what Vance Joseph is doing here with the
Denver broncos it would be in fact criminal.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, and I wholeheartedly agree, and and that's that's one
of the things. I think. The other reason the defensive
coordinator struggled to get head coaching jobs is because owners
think they want a sense of continuity on the offense.
And if your head coach is from the offensive side,
well then you're getting that sense of continuity all the time,
because if your offense is good, your OC's probably gonna
get poched, you know, right, So you're having to shovel
(14:17):
somebody through. And so I think there's a little bit
to that. That portion of it, too, is this defensive
coordinators are dinged a little unfairly because the perception that
they can't keep the continuity on the offensive side of
the ball, which in some cases is true, but most
I don't believe it's true. Guys, we'll live out here
at Sam's Number three over on Cherry Street over here
in Glendale. Come on by myself, Nick ferguson the offer.
(14:38):
Williams still here a little bit. We got a couple
of Sam's Number three gift cards to give you. Guys,
all you gotta do is come up to the broadcast
desk and say that you love bcteam. We got these
first come, first serve a few left to give out
to you. They got great food, great thrinks. Love BCT.
You're not eligible to win.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
But what you didn't say that you said if someone
comes up and they say they love BCT, they can
get a SAMs with three card.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Right, But but you didn't let you get your food
here free. Anyway, that's what we're talking about. We'll get
these listeners when they get out of here. We've got
a great show tonight. We get uh Ryan Michael's gonna
be on a little bit later. It could get a
chance to deep dive into some of these numbers after
after a Broncos win. And I don't want to take
anything off the Broncos win. That That's something that over
(15:24):
the last couple of days, as I started pivoting and
looking at this this New York Jets game which we're
gonna preview here in a little bit, you know, I
found myself sitting there and and and pointing out, Hey, Tampa,
had four of their best defensive players out, you know,
all this kind of stuff, and I'm like, well, but
I don't want to take anything away from the win.
I want to I want to enjoy the win, but
at the same time, I want to make sure we're
(15:44):
not setting up something unrealistic the same way that we
sort of did in the preseason.
Speaker 3 (15:49):
Well, I mean, a win is a win, and you
can only play who's on your schedule a week the week,
you know, there are a lot of guys who end
up on the end report for whatever reason.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Obviously, was it the best shot one can receive.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
From the timpe of Buccaneers obviously not having a certain
amount of individuals hurt. But well, you think about when
Tampa and you think about what they're looking and how
they looked at the game and the loss on Sunday,
Todd Bowse has already kind of turned the page and
moved past it, right, and it's just like, Okay, well
that's a blip on the screen, and they look at
it as though, Hey, on their side, they had a
(16:23):
lot of guys injured. They were just trying to get
through the game. From a Broncos standpoint, you take advantage
of what's out there on the field, and they did
exactly that. And there were some changes that we saw
on the offensive side of the ball that you know,
you and I I know we've talked about on this
show that we would love to see, and hell, we've
been talking about it for the past two years now,
so we now got a chance to really see it.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
And it really helped the Broncos offense on that first drive.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
They ran what three shot plays on that first drive,
and the only real hiccup they had was in the
layer of game when they tried to do the personnel
shuffle on that first drive. And so I'm like, Okay,
we're finally we're finally getting it here right And for me, you.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
Know, we always talked about a little creativity Razu daz
Uh we wanted to see from the Broncos offense because
he could just break the huddle line up. Not that
much pre slat motion, but they gave the Buccaneers a
little pre sat motion. I even saw a play is
a quick pitch we call it Americans play with Jelim
McLoughlin out there, and he said, a dude down when
(17:22):
he had the most skates, and I thought, you know,
Jelia was you know, had was tackled dead the rights,
but that showed the level of quickness that he has. Uh,
Tyler Buday, I have to stretch that part up.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Yeah, yeah, uh.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
He had an opportunity to really showcase his ability. So
I expect to see him more in this upcoming game
against the New York Jets. I don't know how effective
he's going to be against that front, but we should
see some more of Taler bud Day.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Yeah, yeah, why would you? Why would you?
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Your name is spelled like baddie, you go by look man, hey,
whatever is whatever he wants to be called by it.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
I'm just saying, like we asked last year and it
was baby and now it's Beday, and I'm like, okay,
you went for being Baddie.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
It's a yeah, okay, okay.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
Think everyone knows what it is.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Here.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Here's a thought.
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Let's just say he has another good Russian day for
an opportunity against the Jets.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Yeah, he might change it again. Let's hey, I'm here
for now. I'm here for that. He has a week
each then I'm back in. I'm all back in. Guys
will live out at Sam's number three Broncos Country to
Night right here on KOA. We'll be back right for this.
You're gonna go right after the KI commsper the hotline though,
and bring on Broncos color Man, the one, the only
Rick Lewis Rick. How you doing this evening?
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Hey, I'm doing good. I just want to know does
Nick have that that we gone tonight?
Speaker 1 (18:42):
No, he does not have the wig, but we need
to get him back in that character more. I don't
know if he has a name for that character yet,
but we're gonna make that happen.
Speaker 4 (18:51):
I love that man. I knew that Nick was cool,
but I didn't know Nick was funky.
Speaker 1 (18:57):
Yeah there No. I was trying to get him to
do some some promo shots for the show. We were
going to recreate the uh, the the lethal weapon you
know poster or whatever, but but he wouldn't do the
Danny Glover mustache.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Wait a minute, No, no, don't no. You didn't want
to be you want me to be Danny Glover. You
wanted me to be mel Gifts.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
They wanted him to be Milkifts. And I was gonna
be Danny Glover but I couldn't grow the much dash.
So now I'm blaming it on him U Rick were
coming off of win. I think Broncos country is happy.
You know, maybe maybe Tampa's a little shorthanded, but still Broncos.
The offense grew up a little bit in that game.
We saw some of the the things that were plaguing
this team. Sean Payton had addressed them, the constant personnel shuffles,
you know, being aggressive early. We had like three shot plays.
(19:41):
I think on that opening drive.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
It was a good win.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
We're up against a bit of a buzz saw this
coming week with the New York Jets. But do you
think there's there's anything to take from that win to
carry forward.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
Yeah, if you guys were listening to the pregame show,
I predicted the upsets in that game. I just felt it.
It seemed like MPa Bay, coming off their big win
the week before against Detroit on the road, maybe would
come in a little flat, maybe overlook the Denver Broncos.
And I do think that was maybe part of what
we saw on Sunday. But man, give the Broncos some credit.
(20:15):
They're getting better every week. They beat a good football
team on the road. Out of the three teams they played,
those three teams are combined eight and one, so they've
run the gauntlet. So this young football team is getting
battle tested, and I do feel pretty good about going
into New York. I felt a whole lot better before
(20:38):
Alex Singleton, you know, blew out his ACL on Sunday,
which is amazing that he played the entire game without
an ACL. I can't imagine doing anything like that, although
you guys probably both know that Elway played his entire
career without an ACL.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
How did he do that?
Speaker 4 (20:58):
How did that happen? I don't know, but you know,
there's some bleasons to be optimistic the Jets. They have
a really tough schedule coming up after this game. They
play three out of five undefeated teams. Three out of
their next five games are undefeated teams, and they're going
to London, and having gone to London with a team,
(21:21):
I know how that could be quite a distraction, you know,
just getting ready to go and on a trip like that.
And they've got some injuries too. There's some t injuries,
just like the Denver Broncos. Doing fact, they're inside linebacker CJ.
Moseley probably not going to play on Sunday. Their right
tackle is definitely out. They're going to start a rookie
(21:43):
first round draft pick at right tackle who has never
played right tackle before. He's played nothing but left tackle
his entire life in football. So that'll be something to
watch on that side of the ball. You know, there's
some there's some reasons to feel like, you know, they
got a shot against the Jets. But then there's Aaron Rodgers.
(22:05):
You know, this team kind of mirrors each other in
a way. They both have top three, top four defenses,
and in many ways they're alike on defense. But when
you look at the offensive side of the ball, you
have Aaron Rodgers and man, he is loaded up with weapons,
and so that's going to be and that's going to
be the difference maker in my eyes going up against
(22:28):
the Jets on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (22:30):
Well, we've seen the masturation process of both makes over
the past couple of weeks, and he's done exceptional job
as far as.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Running the ball.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
And when you look at him statistically coming out of
Week three, he was ranked thirty six amongst quarterbacks and
running backs rushing the ball. Do you think that is
a trend that continues this week against the Jets.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Yeah, I think so. He seems real comfortable running the football,
and a lot of people didn't know that he was
a number one dual threat athlete coming out of high school.
Dual threat quarterback number one in the country, so it
can be a big part of his game. He certainly
(23:14):
looks good doing it, and he's been extending plays with
his legs and I think we will see more of that.
I mean, I think that we're seeing bon Nicks get
better every week. I was a little worried that his
confidence would get rattled out to those first two games,
but it hasn't happened. In fact, last week meeting Tampa
Bay has done nothing but boost his confidence, which is great.
(23:38):
It's starting to look like they may have something here
in bone Nicks. And if they can run the ball,
we say that every week. They found a way to
run the ball last week, especially with Tyler Baday, that's
going to be hard to get used to that moving forward.
He looks like he should probably be the primary ballcare
(24:00):
in my opinion, and let Julil do what he's doing.
Javonte he's been good catching.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
The ball out of the backfield.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Maybe you could put him in there on third down,
but I like what we've seen from Tyler the Day, who,
as you know, has changed his name three times now.
He was Tyler Baddie, then Tyler Baby, and now the
Day Ben. That'd be like you being Ben Albright, Ben
Albright and then albrid Right, it's kind of crazy how
(24:32):
he comes came up with the Day and apparently his
family doesn't pronounce the name that way. He just decided
to do it for some reason. But Dave and I
are gonna have to get used to that real quick.
Speaker 1 (24:44):
Yeah, you guys are just gonna have to flush out
those other names, all puns intended. As as we look
at as we look at Bo, how excited were you
on that that play that he took off. You saw
Garrett Bowles lose his man, the edge rush comes around
the side. Bow had a natural feel for it, stepped
up and and sort of took off there, and we
went from calling him Bo Nicks to Bovic for you know,
for a minute there. But those kinds of plays, at
(25:05):
the plays, I think they're going to really endear him
to Broncos Country.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Yeah, I heard some people are calling him Vanilla Vic.
He looked like it on that run. That's certainly going
to be one of the highlights of the entire season
for Bonnicks in this Denver Broncos football team, and yeah,
if we can see more of that, And I'd love
to see him get his first touchdown pass this week.
I feel like that's going to happen too. I feel
(25:31):
like this is going to be a low scoring game.
These defenses are both good, even without Alex Singleton. I
feel like it's going to be low scoring. Get the
Broncos people close. Will lutt Is having a Pro Bowl
type year. Just a few reasons to be optimistic. You
know me, when I go through these games and I
go through the prep, I think everybody probably does this.
(25:51):
They look for ways to win the game, and so
you start getting a little optimistic when you see some
things you know as your preparing for the game throughout
the week, and I'm optimistic that they can keep this close.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
So are you heard it here?
Speaker 3 (26:06):
First?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Rick Lewis projecting the Bonus will throw his first touchdown
pass this weekend. Bet the farm on it, UH take
out a double mortgage. Rick Lewis has said he'll cover
your losses. I just I'm messy. I do believe you're right, though,
I do believe it's gonna be a lower scoring game.
I do believe it's two great defense. It's gonna be
a fun, tight game. Hopefully Broncos come away with the win. Rick,
(26:27):
we always appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
Buddy, Hey man, love you guys. Thanks for having me
on the show. And I need to borrow that that
week sometimes, Dick, I'm gonna.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
We'll make that happen. We'll make that happen. Nix Nix's
own duel threat with that with that wig, rickoloais color
man for your Denver Broncos. That's Jets and the Broncos
coming up on Sunday. Yeah, we didn't know.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
I didn't know.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
You brought the funk like that when you had the
wig in the suit and I was like, okay, this
is this is it, this is I have no idea
what you referred to. Uh huh, JESU. Does this character
have a name? Yes, okay, because we we need we
need this.
Speaker 5 (27:02):
I can tell you what his name, just saying well,
this this character, he's come on, we're gonna, we'renna start
doing video clips and having this character man on the
street stuff interviewing.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
People with just wait wait, let me be totally honest
with you right off the bat. You don't want that
guy being the man on the street. No, not that guy.
See I think not that guy. Let me rephrase that
you might want him to do that.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Five six six zero A text on. We've got Jets
game coming up here. We're gonna we're gonna preview a
little bit of that with Ryan Michael in a bit.
But I want to I want to get your thoughts
on it.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Now.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
It's gonna be a little bit different defense. You know,
you look at what the Broncos have faced so far
this season. You had Michael McDonald's defense, which is kind
of a Fangio variant. Then you hit, of course, the Steelers.
They only like to send UH four even though they
play a little more band single high. Then you get
Todd Bowles who's blitz happy, and all of a sudden,
the Broncos look look pretty good. Now you're going back
to another team that only sends four and it's a
four man front UH with a with a Cover three
(27:57):
shell on the back end is not not always, but
that's what they.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Like to do.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
It's it's a little bit different, and it's interesting because
the Cover three had kind of fallen out of Vogue.
Everybody's going to kind of quarters match, you know, type
front stuff like that. Penny, Look you're not seeing that
with Robert Sell.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Well, it all depends on.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
How well you can execute up front. And the key
to what you said was looking at the New York
Jets front four and look, I'm not going to give
out any state secrets because I know this defense well
and I know the scheme well because I was part
of the forty nine ers coaching staff. Now I will
tell you looking at what they but the Jets have
(28:36):
been able to do, and as a coach, you definitely
want to be able to do that if you're able
to use your four guys and be as disruptive as
you can't be. And Quinn Williams is the linch pad
for that defense, and the Broncos are going to have
to know exactly where he is, so he's going to
be a test for whether it's it's a Quinn Miners
(28:56):
or Ben Powers. Those guys are definitely going to be tested.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
But the one that I love.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
About what the Jets do defensively so they could.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Play man is home.
Speaker 3 (29:03):
They got two our good corners and DJ Reid and
Saut starting it and we know historically, since the Jets
have been playing the Denver Broncos in the past couple
of years, the competition between Courtland.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
And Sauce, it is always going down to the tape.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
And there was a play I think two years ago
where Sauce got away with a little pull of the
jersey and it wasn't called passing Feris and that's part
of his game.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
So the Fishers allow him to do that.
Speaker 3 (29:32):
Now, let me let me kind of prefaces by telling
Broncos h fans one, you're going into a housetyle environment
in matt Life Stadium. It's going to be Alumni Weekend, right,
So if you're looking for a call, if you're a player,
don't look for it.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
You're gonna have to overcome that adversity, now.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
Are you and Steve? We are going to show up
for Curious if you guys are gonna you.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
Know what, that was a tough one for me trying
to decide when they when they when they said the
list early in the month and say listen, here's where
Alumni weekend.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
I was like, wait a minute, hold on, they're playing
the Broncos. Uh huh.
Speaker 1 (30:06):
I'm like, yeah, you can just creep around on the
other sideline that's just hanging out.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I say, no, well, I don't know if I can
make it up there for that game.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
But this is going to be, and you're Rick Lewis
talk about it, this is going to be a defensive matchup.
The team that's able to run the ball and run
the ball well and don't turn the ball over, that team's.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
Gonna win, right. I wholeheartedly agree with you there, and
that is really going to be the key. It's going
to be interesting to see which team can get that
run game going it. Jets do have a good one
two punch. You mentioned Breeze haall Braylan Allen. Really you
know a guy who didn't test well necessarily at the
Underwear Olympics, But man, that guy can run a football well.
Not just run the ball.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
I mean, it's how he runs the ball with the
physicality and and understanding that. You know, Nathaniel Hacket, he
comes from the Shanahan tree through Matt Lafour.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
They want to established to run.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
First right and being able to do draw on the
outside stretch game where some teams don't run. But it
is being too vocated by several individuals who are Mike
Shanahan disciples. When you have two running backs with unique
skills set that can kiss the ball out of the
backfield and they can punish you, that is going to
be the biggest thing. And when you look at Alex
(31:14):
Singleton and him not being in the lineup, that's the
first thing I'm gonna look if the Broncos are able
to withstand the early surge of the run game.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
And like I said in earlier where you look.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
At you know Breze Hall, He's been the throwing in
the Broncos side every time they've played him. So that's
something that the Broncos fan base definitely pay attention to
as far as matchups.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
On Sunday, when we got to.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Hit a break, we come back, Ryan Michael's gonna join us,
going inside the Numbers us to Broncos Country Tonight Live
and Sam's Number three Diner and Barr. We'll be back
after this
