Speaker 2 (00:14):
Nick ready for a Week five NFL recap?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Let's do it. We'll start with the Thursday Night game.
Feels like forever ago. The forty nine Ers taking on
the Los Angeles.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Rams with yuscheck to his left, woles left throws on
the run.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
It's McCaffrey crossing the goal line.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Jones finds him for six.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Gotta get some love to our Colorado guy, Christian McCaffrey.
But the storyline in this game for me Mac Jones,
who get another win for the forty nine Ers They
take down the Rams twenty six to twenty three. Do
we have a quarterback controversy in San Francisco?
Speaker 4 (00:53):
No?
Speaker 3 (00:53):
The hell, we don't.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
You like?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
The third person asked me that question.
Speaker 5 (00:59):
Look, Meg Joe us perform admirably and he went thirty
three of forty nine for three forty two and two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Congratulations to him, But for me, this.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
Says more about the staff in San Francisco and the
way they coach and developed guys, because there's never been
a team over the past.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Couple of years, Grant that's.
Speaker 5 (01:20):
Been as beat up as the forty nine ers. Now
the Chargers and coach Harbor are now fight figuring out
for themselves. But Mac Jones did a great job filling in.
And what a great win. That's that. I'm a defensive
guys at heart. That stop to finish the game. That
was so bloody brilliant, that was so.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Awesome, you know.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Sam Darnold credits a lot of his comeback to his
time in San Francisco. He spent last year with the
Minnesota Vikings, and this year it's the Carson Wentz Show.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Went SUTs, Croach, touchdowns, switch show, putty behind its gruss
to get.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
Into the Fred Bonsket. How the Vikings take the Lady.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Lakes Love A little British call from across the Pond
the Vikings beating the.
Speaker 2 (02:12):
Browns twenty one seventeen.
Speaker 1 (02:13):
That call courtesy of Westwood One's Oliver Wilson. What's your
big takeaway from this game? Nick I felt like it
was pretty boring, pretty ugly game, but the Vikings got.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
A win on the road.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Well they did.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
My biggest takeaway is the resurgence of a lot of
these quarterbacks who were former first round picks who found
new life in different places. You were just talking about
Sam Donald. Sam Donald spent time not only with the
forty nine ers, but in a similar system in Minnesota
with Kevin O'Connell, and we're just seeing the rejuvenation of
Carson Wentz. Previously, you asked me, was there a quarterback
(02:47):
controversy between Brock Perdy and Mac Jones. No, there's one
in Minnesota right now where Carson Wentz and JJ McCarthy
for sure.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
I like that answer.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
That's spicy JJ McCarthy.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
They think he's the future there.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
He did not show me much in his first couple
of starts this year, and Carson Wentz showing that he
can have some success in that.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Kevin o'connall offense.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Let's go to the surprise of the week for me.
You were speaking about the injuries for the forty nine ers,
the Ravens depleted on defense, and it was showing as
the Texans beat them forty four to ten.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Third and goal at the ten, Stroud calls for the ball.
Here's the snap foot after CJ looking CJ.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Firing over the middle and it's caught for a touchdown.
Josten Nico College for six.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
That call courtesy of Mark vandermir with Kilt and the
Texans looking like their back, their defense showing up against
the Ravens and the backup quarterback for the Ravens, Cooper Rush.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Yeah, I mean that highlights CJ looking CJ finding. That's
what it was all day against the Baltimore Ravens, and
the Ravens defense looks so unrecognizable, like.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
They can't stop anyone.
Speaker 5 (03:58):
And we think about fifteen Carris with thirty three yards
for Derrick Henry. Those fantasy owners out there, man, I
know they are really frustrated, but this is kind of
what happens when your team gets beat up and you
really don't really build the depth on your team and
you just kind of put everything in that first team offensive,
first team defense. But a great win by the Houston
(04:21):
Texas and Damika Ryants.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Yeah, glad I didn't take Derreck Henry in fantasy this year.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
That's Joe Burrow of course, out for.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
A long time about my fantasy team, and that's showing
at my record. We'll go next to a game I
picked and our pick him last week, the Panthers taking.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
Down the Dolphins twenty seven to twenty four.
Speaker 7 (04:38):
Young Unger setter trouble to pullback in the offset eye.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Here's the step pick Bryce.
Speaker 7 (04:44):
Broke Cucky Evans posts for touchdown.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
It's a outher lookie, it's special.
Speaker 7 (04:52):
Evens Hendy giffs Caroline the.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
Lead that called courtesy of WRFX Aniche Shroff and man,
the Dolphins are a mess.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, they are, man.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
And it's I don't know how they dig themselves out
of this particular hole and it just seemless. Though they're
trending for some coaching changes in twenty twenty six, and
I don't like any coach to be fired because there's
several coaches on that coaching staff who I know well
because I've either coached with him or I played with him.
But things are just looking really difficult for the Miami Dolphins.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
But there's another thing for.
Speaker 5 (05:27):
Dave Vanilla's Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Man, boy, did they ever need a win? And they
did get one?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
For sure, they come back whin There are a lot
of comeback wins in the NFL this weekend. This was
not one of them. It was over from the start.
It felt like the Raiders at the Colts. Out of
the gone goes Jones swiping left, Taylor cuts back at
the fire to the N zone.
Speaker 8 (05:47):
He dances in again, three of them, Tay three touchdowns
for Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Jonathan Taylor someone you want on that fantasy team this year.
That call courtesy of Matt Taylor. With w f NI
Broncos loss to the Colts not looking so bad after
the Colts four in one start, Well, you know what.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
That's definitely one way to look at it as a
boost of confidence. But to me, you got to tip
your cap to everyone in that Coats organization because Athy Richardson.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Was supposed to be the guy. Just think about that.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
You draft a guy and then now you have to
sign another guy who's a former first rounder.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
And if you're at the Giants, how bad does.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
That look for you that Daniel Jones goes to another
team and he is freaking playing.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Well, here's the other.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Thing too, Now, where did Daniel Jones play last year?
Speaker 3 (06:35):
And what he said in the quarterback Grove.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
If you were the team Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 5 (06:39):
That's right, so you get sense the common theme that
we're talking about right here. But Jonathan Taylor, man, he's
a monster.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Not on my fantasy team, no me either, whish he was.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
We'll go next to Spencer Rattler getting his first win
for the New Orleans Saints.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Play action stands.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
In the middle, where's the teeth? And he's got a.
Speaker 6 (06:56):
Wide open us, he said, how does suppose to play?
Speaker 2 (06:59):
Thirty fifteen?
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Say later?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Five no flags?
Speaker 6 (07:07):
Touch down Saint Sadi's seven yards.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I love that call for Mike Coss with WWL and
the bromance between Jackson Dart and Cam Scattibo not lasting
too long.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
About one week and one quarter at New York.
Speaker 5 (07:22):
Oh call it a New York minute, right, that's how
will it last? Welcome to the NFL rookies. And that's
how quickly you could be on top of the world
and be in a toilet the next week.
Speaker 3 (07:36):
But you know what, how about Spencer Rattler.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
I wasn't really sure how this was going to work
out for Keller Moore with a guy like Spencer Rattler.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
And even though I know the Saints.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Are just kind of one and four At this particular point,
they're still doing well and there's a lot of confidence
that they're having right now with Spencer Rattler.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
And I'll never get tired of seeing those first time
head coaches getting their game ball after their first win
with an organization and very cool moment down there in
New Orleans for Kellen Moore and Spencer Rattler. Next the
Cowboys beating up on the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Next opponent, the New York Jets. Here's first down, fake
pitch going date. There's a shot for Pickens.
Speaker 6 (08:13):
He got pushed, he talked the ball to the polls,
touchdown the Pickings.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Dagger the dagger MD that call courtesy of Brad Sham
with KRLD. That was that play you referenced earlier about
Sas Gardner and George Pickens. There, Nick, Cowboys win thirty
seven to twenty two.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yeah, they did, and the Jets made a late comeback
trying to push for that victory, but at that point
too much damage was done. And may what do you
saying about Dak Prescott. Here's a guy who's been uber
criticized over the couple of years because he hasn't really
gotten the Cowboys to the Promised Land. But man, he's
(08:54):
having one heck of a season. And also with yeah,
I'll see d that's the crazy part. You know, you
have George Piggys that you played there on highlight. Jake
Ferguson had two touchdowns in the game against the Jets
and then former demmer Bronco Javonte Williams sixteen carries, one.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Hundred and thirty five yards.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
But the Broncos don't take the Jets for granted because
breist Hall had one hundred and thirteen or fourteen carries.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
So that's the guy they're gonna have to stop this week.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
And I love seeing the comeback story for Javonte Williams.
And I hear there's a good podcast by the name
of Taking It for Granted, just if you want to
check it out. Just a little suggestion. Next game, Titans
at the Cardinals, and you.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Know I had to play this highlight.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
De Marcado he easy first down run and he's three
forty thirty twenty ten five touchdown, seventy two yards for
a Mari de Marcado.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
It was a single back power. Oh hold on the
second coach, I'm starting to r De.
Speaker 7 (09:57):
Marcado dropped the football. Is he was going into the
end zone and this is gonna be really interesting. Amari
de Marcado fumbled the football out of his left hand
before he crossed the goal line. It's a fumble through
the end zone.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
And we know what all happened after that. That called
courtesy of Taylor Zarzor with WGFX.
Speaker 5 (10:20):
Was was was that broadcast from the home team of
the weighted.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
That was the Titans broadcast?
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Oh that was because I was like, man, he has
no enthusiast, but you know de Mercado, Man that that's
a bummer man to just kind of do all that
work and drop the ball right before you get to
the end zone.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
And obviously, if you know about.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
The sideline incident, if we want to call it that
between him and Jonathan Gannon, which led to Gannon being
being fined A hundred thousand, hundred thousand.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
A thousand Game of the Week if you weren't a
Broncos fan. The Buccaneers taking down the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle.
Speaker 8 (11:00):
This will be a thirty nine yard field role of
ten stakes mclock and the Bucks win it on the
road in Seattle, spot down as Kipps Airborne.
Speaker 3 (11:09):
It is loging up, it is God. How about Box beating.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
The Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
Gene Decker Hoffs voice made for radio, his call with
w f US, And what a display by the two quarterbacks,
Faker Mayfield and Sam Darnam.
Speaker 5 (11:24):
Yeah, you know what these two guys, If I'm not mistaken,
I think they were drafted in the same draft and
ended up on the Caroline the Panthers two together, yep.
And I know coming into this game, the NFL always
looked for all kinds of storylines and that was kind
of the topic between the two and who was going
to get the better of the two. But in this
particular game, it was Baker of Mayfield. And I mean,
(11:46):
it's amazing that we're watching so many games over the
past couple of weeks in the NFL, either the game
is ending with the game winning field goal or a
game winning block field goal.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
So I don't know about you, but I'm loving this.
I'm loving this type of football.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
I am too, man.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
Special team has never been more important than Baker, Baker
the comeback maker. Sadly, onto the next game, the Lions
beating the breaks off my Cincinnati Bengals golf.
Speaker 4 (12:15):
Up under center, turns play action fake looks, looks, looks,
grows left side.
Speaker 6 (12:19):
It is caught Laporta inside the five and the two
diving of the NFL touchdown Detroit Lions, Sam Lapota doing
workout for the catch.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
That time a couple of garbage time touchdowns for the
Bengals at the end of the game. That called courtesy
of Dan Miller with w x YT. That was the
first touchdown of many for the Detroit Lions on the day.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Yeah, you know what, Grannon know. Jake Brownie didn't get
it done. He threw three interceptions, but if it's any constellation, he.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Also threw three touchdowns. But you know what it was.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
It was the final score looked a lot closer than
the game really was. But you gotta give it to
the Detroit Lions of Dan Campbell Man. This dude has
done a heck of the job in his teamure with
the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
Quickly through the last couple the Commanders beaten down the
Chargers at so fine.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Here's the step hand off Krussky Marror cuts to the edge.
They're not gonna get him again. He's a two Darmery
get again.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Bill Krussky erin touch out, touchdown Loch.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Again and as you know now you can call him Bill.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Commanders beat the Chargers twenty seven to ten. That called
courtesy of Bram Weinstein with wbig.
Speaker 5 (13:32):
Yeah, you know what, that was a crazy game, and
I feel sorry for Justin Herbert. So many guys beat up.
He got a lot of pressure on the shoulders. But
coach Bagano dan Quinn got another victory.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
They certainly did someone else who got a victory that
was quite unexpected. The Patriots beating the Bills in Buffalo.
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Steve It's in.
Speaker 8 (13:52):
The tailback Colin single receiver of the left, Launder center
gets the snap toss, Blay Stevenson running left, cutting up
along the numbers, and Waltz's enemy ends touchdown Patriots. The
second touchdown run of the game for will Mon Brave Stevenson.
Speaker 1 (14:07):
That called courtesy of Bob Socy with W b Z.
I did not see that one coming. And Drake May
looking like the real deal.
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (14:14):
Some Patriots fans that I know are calling him the
second coming of TV twelve.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Interesting more athletic version of TV twel absolutely uh Monday
Night Football another game I didn't see coming, but glad
it happened. The Jaguars went in on a last second
fall down and then get back.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Up touchdown from Trevor Lawrence first.
Speaker 8 (14:35):
And goal at the Kansas City One under center is launch.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
So Snill Holy fell down as he pulled away, hicks
it up, tuts Tell Cup.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
Picks a tuck up, five d touchdowned, touchdown, Jackson Till touchdown.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
How many times can Kevin Harlan say touchdown in one call?
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Courtesy of Westwood One.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Love Kevin Harlan on the calls and a big time
win for those guys down in Duvall.
Speaker 5 (15:01):
And then when that WID's Trevord Lawrence fall and not
once but twice, he looked like a baby Girab trying
to be born for the first time, trying.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
To avoid some lions.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
But he got up, got the ball into the zone
and he roared like a lion. Big shout out to uh,
you know, Duval and coach for getting that dug dude.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Ball and finally in the game. We were all enthralled
by this weekend. Your Denver Broncos taken down the defending
Super Bowl champion Philadelphia.
Speaker 8 (15:33):
Hurts, bounces around, loads it up, floats it to the end.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
Zone.
Speaker 6 (15:37):
It is in complete, you know, flags Denver?
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Was it finally a win? On the last play of
the game.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
Denver finishes this game with eighteen.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
Unanswered points and.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
They win it twenty one to seventeen.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
And that call courtesy of us the KOA Bronco Radio Network.
Love hearing Dave Logan's emotion in the call. A big
time win for your Denver Broncos. We're gonna get Jake
Plummer's thoughts on it coming up next. I'm Grant Smith
alongside Nick Ferguson right here on Broncos Country tonight on
KOA A fifty AM ninety four.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
To one FM.
Speaker 1 (16:17):
One of our favorites here in Broncos Country. Jake Plumber
joining the show. I'm Grant Smith felling them for Benjamin
all right alongside my guy Nick Ferguson, heading out to
the KAA Common Spirit Health Hotline and bringing on the
snake Jake Plumber, Jake, how are you tonight?
Speaker 4 (16:33):
Been a great night, guys. How you guys doing this?
Speaker 2 (16:37):
We are doing great?
Speaker 1 (16:38):
And uh man, what a big win for Broncos Country
this past weekend taking down the Philadelphia Eagles. And I
got to say before we get into that breakdown. I'm
loving your stuff on Gorilla Sportsman, your play breakdowns with
Nate Jackson.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
They are so much fun.
Speaker 9 (16:54):
Ah, thank you, I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
You know, a lot of the a lot of the
thing to go down on the radio, it's all you know,
guys talking and trying to explain things. So Nate and
I thought, let's talk a little bit, but then let's
go break it down to walk through to follow it up.
So we're having fun, you know. And I like football.
I've always loved football and enjoy watching it. And if
I got a good excuse to have to watch the games,
(17:18):
then it makes it easier to sit there and watch them.
Especially with a huge win and the team that's in
the entertaining team like the Broncos are, it's fun to watch.
So I can't complain.
Speaker 5 (17:30):
But Jake being a being a former quarterback yourself, when
you look at bow Nicks going into his second year,
we're more important this game against Philadelphia. For the first
three quarters, the offense looked like it was still trying to,
you know, gain their footing. But in that fourth quarter
where it counted the most, they came through eighteen points.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
What have you seen from.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
Bow Nicks that if you could start to him and
advise him that you would say, Okay, well here's where
I think that you can be better or or you
can actually improve as a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (18:03):
Yeah, I mean I think you know you're gonna see
things pop up week to week. And as a young
quarterback in his second season, I've hit on some of that,
you know, in our show, and as I'm watching him,
you know, he was really smooth in the pocket last week,
an improvement from weeks prior where he was a little
bit antsy, he drifted into trouble, or he drifted out
(18:25):
of a lane where he didn't have the ability to
throw it, or he was staring down guys and getting
a lot of balls batted down. And I think he
saw that obviously he did. I'm not the only one
that has any knowledge about this, being a player for
the years that I played and watching a game I
watched at a different level than your common sayan. But he's
being coached by some great coaches, and his quarterback coach,
(18:48):
Davis Webb, was a good quarterback in college and a
very knowledgeable player. And then you got coach Peyton and
you got Bo who played a lot of ball, and
so I think he's making them, doing the things necessary
to improve and clean those things up. It's always nice
when you got a good pocket. His old line was
great last week. There were a few times he moved,
(19:10):
and when he did, you know, he made big plays
like that hot route to Courtland late in the game,
you know, two little over two minutes left that kept
that drive alive that got the field goal. You know,
that was a huge play with a free man coming
and his feet werek set, but he still made the
throw that was necessary and needed to be made at
that time. And I see a lot of improvement week
(19:31):
to week. I just I really like his leadership. I
think more than anything, you know, fundamentals and spirals and
missed deep balls or batted balls or any of this
the peripheral stuff. He's a great leader and you can
feel that. You can sense that not being in that
building day to day, not being out on the practice
(19:51):
field day to day. Just watching him through the TV,
I can tell the guys like they appreciate him, they
like him, they're fighting for him. They're a team, and
he's the guy who a lot of eyeballs are on,
if not all eyeballs are on and he's doing what
it takes. He's doing what's necessary, and that's be yourself,
have some passion, care about your teammates, and make it
(20:13):
count when you get out there. And he did that
last week. What a huge win on the road against Philly.
You can see the difference in two teams. I mean,
here's a team that's three and two now that has
a cup, two losses that were heartbreakers last second, that
stay together, no one's complaining, there's no divas asking for
(20:34):
the ball or complaining. And then you got Philly at
four and oh, and you got these receivers that are
bitching about not getting the ball, and like you could
feel that, you could see that tension. And so a
good organization has a good coach, has good players that
play unselfishly, they play for each other, and it starts
with your QB number one. And we see that with
bow And I really don't have much to tell him
(20:56):
other than I can't wait to watch him again this
week to see if there's any thing else they may
stand out. But he could work on. But you know,
he's he's a smart kid. He's he's working on everything
that I've seen and exactly getting better. At it. So
kudos to him and that staff and just his ability
to lead those guys.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Yeah, and speaking on that leadership you mentioned with Bo Nix,
Jake Plumber, our guests here on Broncos Country tonight, you
saw him. I saw in your video for Gorilla Sports
one of your play breakdowns, you talked about him picking
up our Jay Harvey's first touchdown ball. But another guy
he seems to be picking up as his former teammate,
Troy Franklin, who we know has had some struggles with drops,
but then has that big two point conversion catch to
(21:36):
take the lead against the Eagles in the fourth quarter.
Do you have any memories of trying to h I mean,
we all know in Broncos Country how great of a
teammate you were. Of course Nick Ferguson knows it better
than most, But do you have any memories of trying
to build up one of your teammates after a mistake
in your career?
Speaker 4 (21:53):
It happened, It happened quite a bit. Not so much
with the guys that were established. You know, you don't
got to I don't got to go over and try
to pick Rob Smith up. You know, I know he's
a pro he's been in it long enough. But when
you're working with some younger guys or maybe have a
second or third year guy that's dropping the ball, you
just go and tell them, hey, I'm going to come
(22:13):
to you again, man, so don't worry, and you're going
to get another shot. It's not like we.
Speaker 9 (22:17):
Can take you out of the game plan.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
But it's the work involved. It's the work and the
quiet times. And there's no video cameras or no TVs
on TVs showing them that they're spending those time, that
time together working on just that, like catching the ball,
throwing the ball, figuring out their timing, checking out each
other's nuances, understanding the things and places that these guys
(22:41):
can catch the ball. And it doesn't happen all the time.
But the good quarterbacks they know where to throw the
ball to their players. They know their personnel, kyp is
what I always used to say, know your personnel. Some
guys had a huge catch radius. We saw that with
Ingram and that catch he made, what for that fabulous catch?
Speaker 9 (22:58):
Wanted to catch it.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
It was just a way way back behind him. He
jumped up and caught it. But then you got, you know,
running back out there the week before R J. Harvey,
and you better put it on him. Don't try to
make him make that catch. Not yet, at least, let's
let the kid develop a little bit. And the numerous times,
yeah you got, You're gonna have guys that, whether they
fumble the ball or you know, lineman, this is a block,
(23:20):
they feel horrible, and that's what you want to see.
You want to see those guys feel bad. And then
and then it matters. You know that they give they
give two cents about what they're doing, and that just
shows that they really there, They bought in, they care
about their teammates. And I would never write anybody hard
unless I was seeing a lack of effort. If there's
a lack of effort and you're just you're going through it,
(23:42):
going through the motion, half assing it, then I'm gonna
come chew you up. I'm gonna get after you. But otherwise,
if you've given me your best and you're just not finishing,
then that's just you just need a little encouragement.
Speaker 9 (23:53):
And that's usually what I would try to do is encourage.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
Them and tell them, hey, I'm going to be coming
back to you. And there was one moment I can't
remember who's player was. I'd have to really think about it,
but he dropped the ball early on. It might have
been Taiwan Mitchell back in Arizona with the Cardinals and
he dropped the ball and then I said, hey man,
I'm coming back to you. You're gonna make a play,
so don't don't get down, And sure enough late in
the game, three one up in the end zone, he
(24:16):
went up and got it and made a play. And
you know, players look for that, they want that confidence boost.
The coaches are going to chew your ask no matter
what you do, good or bad. But as a player,
you want to you want to pump your guys up
so they respect you too and help you. And you're
down and you're making bad plays.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Well, speaking of that and staying along the same vein
going in Arizona, we saw the meccardo running back before
the Arizona Cardinals dropped the ball right before crossing the
goal line and ended up being a touchback and given
the Titans the ball right back on the twenty. But
I think the thing that everyone was talking about was
(24:51):
the interaction between Jonathan Gannon and the McCarty on the
sideline and it's an incident where Jonathan Gannon was fine
on a in your and your experience, have you ever
been through a situation like that where you observe something
like that, and then should coaches, being as upset as
they are, have the ability to kind of react that
(25:14):
that way publicly on the sideline?
Speaker 3 (25:18):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (25:18):
I mean there were instances, numerous times, you know, where
coaches got little heated. I mean there were times where
I got heated on a coach and they got mad
at me, and we were at each other's throat, you know,
as we're going through and I'm one instance in Arizona,
I went over to the old line and said, hey man,
you guys got to pick it up right when the coach,
(25:39):
coach Warhap, George Warhop, a great lie O line.
Speaker 9 (25:42):
Coach in the league for many years, was coaching.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Them up and I said that, and he told me,
you do your job, I'll take care of my guys,
and I just lost it. I was like, no, this
is my old line. You're going to.
Speaker 9 (25:55):
Coach their asses and better get it ready.
Speaker 8 (25:57):
You know.
Speaker 4 (25:58):
We're like then after the game, we gave each other
a hug. I love you all good. But it's like
in that moment, you're so hot and you want it
so bad and it's emotions are high. My thing is
there's a way to handle it. And as a.
Speaker 9 (26:13):
Coach, especially, you know, whatever position.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Coach, head, coach, whatever you are, it's really it's hard
to do it when you're in that moment. Because I've
been in most moments and I've lost it and I've
flipped the bird, or I've said something or I've timed
something emotionally because you're charged and you're ready and you
don't think twice about the repercussions. But man, this guy
wasn't doing anything on purpose. And to go and really
(26:39):
do what that coach did, and to treat that player
like like really such a low, low piece of you know,
piece of you know what, down on a totem pole,
that's just not right. Because here's the deal, man. Coaches
come and go, they're gonna get fired, they're out piece
out well. Running backs will stay, QB's will stay. Coaches
sometimes forget that they're not as important as they think
(27:01):
they are. They are there to put you in the
right spot to give you the game plan. But if
those players that are pulling the trigger and doing it,
and I feel bad for that guy, that player that
dropped the ball before he scored. I mean, you're scoring
a touchdown. You went from complete joy to oh man,
the almost horrible feeling you could think about because you
hurt your team and their chances to win. So there
(27:22):
is a way to do it though, as we saw,
you know, Peyton undressing Russell Wilson a lot of times
on the sideline right on national TV, and Russell would
just take it. I wasn't that player. I wasn't going
to just take it. And if a coach is going
to undress me like I'm his inferior, I'm going to
let him have it back so much so that you
might have to separate us. And that's what you want
(27:43):
to feed from your leader. That's what you want to
feed from guys, is not just sit there and take it. Yes, coach,
can I have another like no, no, no, we're not
in the military here. Let's we like to compare it
to that. But you're a coach, You coach, don't come
over here and cheer me out. I'm playing ball, I'm
getting hit. You're here with some headset, towing seeds, relaxing.
(28:03):
I'm the one putting my body on the line, so
inappropriate for that, coach. I'm glad you got fined.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah, and we've seen bo Nick's kind of fire back
at Sean Payton in his early days here. Jake, we
appreciate your time so much, man, And I got to
tell you that one other thing I love about you
your mushrooms.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Humbo, I love the breakfast bars.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
I know you hooked our guy up, Dave Logan with
some sleeping aids.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Can you tell us a little bit.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
More about your company and what you guys got going
on right now?
Speaker 4 (28:31):
Yeah, man, we're just we're just continuing to educate people
and get our products in the hands of people that
want to feel better, have more sustainable energy, fight fatigue,
to arm yourselves with a called nervous systems for stress
and sleep better and just function better overall. And there's
a lot of confusion around mushrooms like there was back
(28:53):
in the day with you know, uh, marijuana and himp.
But we're we're not selling anything you know, legal or
anything that's gonna make you trip out. It's all natural intelligence, man,
It's it's good stuff. So yeah, get Umbo dot com.
We want to check it out. And we love the
pub but more or less, we really what I enjoy
(29:13):
the most, and Nick can tell you this is when
we can help people feel better and live a better life,
because we got a lot of former teammates and former
brothers and opponents that they struggle post career. And if
there's something that can help me, as the mushrooms have
as much as they have, I've got to share that
with other people. So thanks for the little pub and
it's always great to join you guys, and I'm glad
(29:35):
to join you tonight, especially after a big win. And
I tell you what, though, you know, like you don't
want to playing five NFL football, they got they got
family and friends and relatives and people watching them too.
They're gonna Dets're gonna come out fighting and give you
the best shot we've seen all year. So we're gonna
get to see how the Boncos respond to that big
win in Philly.
Speaker 1 (29:54):
Well, hopefully they respond well. Jake, we appreciate your time, man. Yeah,
I have a great rest of your night.
Speaker 4 (30:00):
Man right on, Thank you guys, easy granted. Nick, you
guys have a good night too.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Jake's the best, Yeah he is.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
And by the way, no, no psychedelic mushrooms he's selling
with gumbo. But uh, in my mind, and I don't
want to speak for Jake, but maybe his as well.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Nothing wrong with a little psychedelic trip here and there.
Speaker 3 (30:21):
Look, man, here's what I'm gonna tell you.
Speaker 5 (30:24):
Man, I love Jake, and uh, I know some of
the things that he was referencing.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
Yeah, tell us a little bit about that. What he
was referencing about maybe flipping the bird.
Speaker 3 (30:37):
Well, okay, a couple of things.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Jake did you know, was saying you're number one to
a couple of friends, and they misinterpret the hand signals right.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Kind of like Terry Jones.
Speaker 5 (30:49):
Yeah, yeah, yes, in that burden like an Inaverton with
an inverted finger. And I remember CBS caught that sucker
wide lens right, and it was so hilarious because, you know,
our office wasn't doing that well then the fans were
giving him the business, but he was still one of
those guys. And he's absolutely right. I've seen Jake, you know,
(31:13):
him and Mike Shanahan kind of go back at it.
And I happened to have had a knee injury during
that time, so I was on the sofa and it
was Kansas City on a Thursday night, and the moment
I saw those two kind of going at it, because
I never really seen those two go at it in
practice or let alone a game in public, I leaned
over to my wife and I was just like, this
(31:36):
is the end. I said, this is the end. And
even though I mean for me, I was a defensive player,
I was terrified because I was terrified because everything that
we had done as a team at that point was
now about to be torn down and it wasn't going
to be the same as it was.
Speaker 1 (31:55):
Yeah, and I mean not many mistakes in the Mike
Shanahan era here in Denver, but I think one of
them was moving on from Jake to Snake man.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
I mean, we talked about it with him. What a
teammate he was, and he's.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
Someone who as a quarterback and was getting the love
from all the fans and all of everyone in the
national media. He didn't forget about you guys on the
other side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
No, he was great, man.
Speaker 5 (32:16):
Jake was always one of us as a defensive player.
He always came to our dinners at Del Frisco's, and
he was one of those quarterbacks. If he made a mistake,
if someone offense made a mistake. He was the first
person to come to you and say, you know what,
we'll give us the ball back and we'll go down
to score. So he will forever be my quarterback. That's awesome, Quarterback, Nick.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
The time always goes too fast, Man, Thanks for making
it easy while I'm feeling them.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Hey man, you do one heck of a job.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
Man.
Speaker 5 (32:47):
Recognize Grant smith Man, give him his props.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
You've been listening to Broncos country tonight right here on
KOA A fifty am ninety four to one FM.
Speaker 5 (32:56):
If you're going to mess with the bull, you get
the horn and everything else.
