Speaker 1 (00:00):
Thanks to Paul Charchi from Fantasy Football Weekly for joining
us in the last How.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I missed to be part of that. You go to
brockus Country in that dot.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Com slash podcast or roogats your podcast, Apple Tunes, Spotify,
the free and redesigned Dieheart Radio where you could get
the taking for granted archives.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Since he's not doing new episodes at this point, crack
open one of those tones will cobweb off of it,
just like Indiana Jones.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
I had a couple of questions coming in on the
text line five six six nine zero. Who's playing for
Betton Powers on Sunday. That'll be Matt Perk. He's the
guy who's getting first crack at it. How he plays
in that game, will see if that position goes up
for grabs or if they have to look elsewhere. You
got a couple of guys out there. You know the

(00:47):
left guard from the Saints, Trevor Penning. You got what's
the left guard of Baltimore? Which names escapes me at
the moment for he's no, no, no, no, no, what's it?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Guys? Nay, hang on a minute.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
A couple of guys who oh lea, isn't the Minnesota
guy Filele.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
No, hang on, I'll tell you who I'm talking about
that would be available.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
For trade.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Well, Linderbaum is somebody they'd be willing to move on from.
It's the center, but he can play guard. That would
be yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
I mean tell Luke Waudenbert to go back to his
guard playing days. I mean Linderbaum, I think is one
of the top ten centers in the league pretty comfortably.
I get why the Ravens might look to move him.
It's just going to be hard to pay. Everybody in Baltimore.
Broncos should be all over that. It would take an
already very very good line and I think catapuled it

(01:43):
to a new level, especially with what he brings for
you in the run game. Right Penning hasn't played very well.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
He started off at tackle former Saints first round or
we start off the tackle, didn't play well there. I
hadn't really played well at guard. But as somebody that
you could have cheap. The Saints haven't picked up the
fifth year options, so you'd have him cheap on a
rookie deal for one year as a stop gap while
you figured out what you wanted to do left guard
next year, which probably does not include Powers or Penning. Uh.
If you do bring in Linderbaum, that road required investment

(02:08):
as well as you know, partner with some draft capital.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
So it's just something to keep your eye on.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
I wonder about a name like Eric McCoy also with
the Saints, has some of that center ability. He's played
multiple positions on that interior, So maybe you could plug
him in as a guard right now and look at
him as a center replacement moving forward.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Yeah, I don't think they're moving him. I don't think
the Saints are in fire cell mode like a lot
of people think. I really don't Penning is somebody there.
I mean they they'll move on from because they don't care,
but they're not trying to move like rouy Ez who's
been hurt, McCoy, those type of guys. They're not trying
to move on from those guys. And so I think
the other reason I think Penning is just because they
want to move on from him, and you know, he's

(02:47):
a guy that was there.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
I think he was there the last year. Is Sean Payton.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
If I remember correctly, I'd have to go back to look,
but you know, certainly, if not, it's been close.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
To that how long he's been there.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
It may have been the year after he left, but
you know, Mickey Looma obviously very aware of what it
is and fits the archetype.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, I think that was the year after Peyton.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
But either way, there's plenty of connective tissue there. The
offense they were running after Peyton left was you know,
not maybe it's well as great, Michael.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
I mean, yeah, it's the same you know who's here exactly,
so you would figure there's at least some carryover. Now
they're talking out of both sides of my mouth.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
Trevor Pettin hasn't looked very good in that offense to
your earlier points, so maybe that's a quality reason to
avoid him.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Yeah, just one of one of several.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
I guess as you look at this game coming out there,
a lot of people keep keep talking about the trap game,
and I don't think this is the trap game.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
I think we're gonna blow the doors off the Jets.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I think George Peyton wants to put it to Darren Moujie.
I think Sean Payton would love to run up the
score and continue to pad the numbers for Bow and
make himself, you know, keep that genius Crown going obviously
wants to get the dub because he wants to.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
You know, the road is fairly paved here.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
I mean, you're at three and two, you win this one,
you're four and two, you're facing the Giants, who I
think of the real trap game coming up after that.
The Giants defense is better than people think it is.
You've got guys like Dexter, Lawrence and Burns and Carter.
They've I've got some players on that defense. The offense
of the Giants has been better since Darts baiting, and

(04:19):
they've they've hidden him a little bit and he's throwing
some he's turned the football over once. In game two
got around, he started to turning the football over a
little bit. But getting Scatabo in there has helped them
out a little bit. They need a one two punch
and Tyron and Tracy is supposed to be back for them,
so you know, that's that's one of those things. You know,
as well, tomorrow they get the Thursday night football game,
so we'll all get a chance to kind of see

(04:40):
the Giants a little bit. Brian Dable getting extra time,
you know, he's one of those guys week to week
some of.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
His game plans or whatever.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
But you give a lot of time and he's you know,
week ones of the season. Those briandable game plans were
pretty nice, and so that that's one of those things.
I think getting a few extra days, a few extra
days of rest, uh and having the one two punch
in the run game that you're able to spell guys
and you know and kind of use Dart in certain
ways if Dark can stay healthy, and that is the
big if you know, he's already it racked up one

(05:09):
or two injuries, you know, already in just two games,
and his style does lend to taking hits. So that'll
be the question. You know, who knows if Dart gets hurt,
he could see the return Russ.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Yeah, get that revenge game to happen for Broncos Country.
I will say I feel a little more confident about
that Jackson Dart matchup after our conversation with Paul Chartscian
sharing that stat about limiting the Russian ability of these
quarterbacks Jackson Dart at this point in his career, and
I don't think it's unusually saw bo Nix go through
this stage kind of early last year where the scrambling,

(05:44):
the ability to run and create some positive plays. There
is kind of integral to his game at this point.
And if the Broncos are able to keep that trend
we've seen the first five weeks going where they're really
limiting the rushing yards these quarterbacks are able to get.
I think that could really hurt Jackson Dart ultimately, though
I do agree they're getting this extended rest. The Broncos, meanwhile,

(06:06):
are coming off a London game. The Giants seem like
an opponent you could easily overlook. And I think right now,
one of the biggest flaws in bo Nix's game is
how he reacts to pressure. This Giant's pass rush is
gonna have a lot of different avenues towards creating pressure,
including Dexter Lawrence on the interior going up against whoever's

(06:27):
replacing Ben Powers.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, and so it's gonna be I think the Giants
game is the one that's the track gave. But no,
get wrong, I don't want to overlook the Jets, but
the Jets are bad on all sides of the ball.
This defense, which has talent on it, that's the thing
I was I was kind of worried about, Like I
don't know, what did Aaron Glenn ever do that, you
know on defense that led you to believe that he
was a great tactician. I mean, those those defenses weren't
very good. They just kept stacking them with talent in Detroit.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
I think last year, doing what he did with after
all the injuries, I think that maybe is a non
to the tactician point. But whatever we've seen this year
is a strong point in the other column. It's been
a very simplistic defense. He's doing the opposite of maximizing
the talent, he's minimizing the talent. It seems that we're
having a maybe the worst year of Sauce Gardner's career.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Their pass rush, which used to be kind.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Of their their identity on defense, is thirtieth in pressure rate. Now, yeah,
he needs to find some other solutions because right now
it's not working at all. Yeah and so and then
on the offensive side, everybody hailed the offensive excuse me,
the offensive coordinator after the Week one game, and I
was like, man, I never judge a new OC or

(07:41):
DC on Week one, because you've had all off season
to put that game plan together.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
Judge them on week two and three. And we've seen
the Jets offenses had no answers, you know, in the
time since then, In Fields is back to be in
Justin Fields, you know, an erratic at best passer who
sometimes uses his legs to bail him out of situations.
He's one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL taking sacks,
and he's one of the worst at creating sack opportunities.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
That's not all on the offensive line.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
One of the more interesting things for me was how
I to everybody, you know, going back to that draft,
when everybody in their world laughed at me for saying
the Broncos shouldn't have anything to do with Justin Fields.
You know, around town, there were whole radio shows dedicated
to making fun of the comments I was making on
Twitter talking about, you know, taking Sirtan and how that

(08:32):
was the right move. Sirtan has wound up being a
Defensive Player of the Year, and Justin Field is on
his third team in three years and tenuously hanging on
to the starting job on that third team. He's like
Russell Wilson without the Hall of Fame career before he
got bad.

Speaker 2 (08:47):
Fields is not good now if.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
You let him get free on you as an athlete,
he'll gash you, but that doesn't generally happen much anymore,
as teams know to contain him, and then they just
play pre event in the fourth quarter and that's where
he pads the stats.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
I'm really interested to see how Vance Joseph attacks this
one because on one hand, you look at their weapons,
and as good as Garrett Wilson is, I think you
feel confident about PS two in that matchup, and they've
got no one outside of that where I think it's
very tempting to play me on coverage and play the
aggressive style of defense we've seen Vance Joseph lean into
this year forty four percent man rate through five weeks.

(09:22):
That's the highest in the NFL. That said, this Jets
offense is very erratic. I think the one thing justin
Fields has he can create explosive runs, and I think,
you know, if the stars align, he can create an
explosive pass. He's fairly accurate downfield, he's got a big arm.
His processor is just horrifically bad. That said, if there

(09:44):
is a path to the Broncos losing this game and
being upset, it's you know, a pass rush maybe waking
from its slumber and getting home against bo Nicks. But
then on on the Jets side of the ball, Justin
Field's hitting on a few of those lucky explosives.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
I don't think you're going to.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
See him matriculate the ball down the field on a
long marching drive. If I'm Vance Joseph, I'd be tempted
to dare him to do that and see if he can.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Yeah, And that's that's I think the thing.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
I don't think the Broncos are going to get out
of what they do unless the Jets just start gashing them,
which seems unlikely. I think the Broncos are going to
do what the Broncos do. I think there it's a
you know, that mush container. We've seen Vance do this
with that mush rush contained a pressure on the outside before.
When you've got guys like Benito and John Cooper horror
who are as dominant as they have been, I think

(10:33):
that that lends to.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
You know, having success with that. We've seen. That's the thing.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Like somebody was the other day with somebot vans and
mobile quarter as fans has always been good against mobile quarterbacks.
You guys don't remember how he set the blueprint on
the run fits on how to contain He invented how
you contain Pat Mahomes to the pocket. Now Vic Fangio
invented how you cover him on the on the back end.
And it's funny that both those and it's Broncos head
coaches that did that. Why because they had to play
him twice a year, But it was Broncos coaches that

(10:59):
have laid out the blue on how to stop and
slow down I should say Pat Maholmes. And we've seen
how the league has copied that. So you know, I
have a lot of faith. Vance Joseph's tenure as a
head coach had left a lot of bad taste in
people's mouths, and that was because he made some odd
decisions with you know, with the way they did things.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
But Vance also didn't have control of the offense.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Vance was a token head coach who only he was
really a defensive coordinator who made the executive decisions. And
so that's the thing now that he's bad coaching defense.
I mean, I don't think you guys saw the defenses
that he coached down Arizona, Arizona. He took a bad
Arizona defense and built them into a juggernaut before defenses
before injury derailed it, and then they decided to blow
it up, and then they brought in John Gannon. Now

(11:41):
they've rebuilt that thing in their own image. But I mean,
Vance Joseph was good at what he does and I
have full the utmost confidence in his ability to shut
down somebody like Fields, who frankly is not very good.
The Field's had one hundred and seventeen total yards I
think it was one hundred and sefteen yards passing against
the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Last year was with Pittsburgh and we had a better
supporting cast.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
And I don't think this team was playing quite at
the level they are right now in that early part
of the season. But also, you know, as Nick Ferguson
often highlights, it's complimentary football, and that Broncos offense in
Week two of last year was doing their defense absolutely
zero favors. This Broncos offense could do a lot more

(12:23):
lifting and help them out. And you know, Justin Fields
just has so much less talent around him.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Now.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
I really think the Jets path to victory is probably
through Breese Hall. I don't know if you can ask
Justin I think the more they ask of Justin Field's
the worse. Their odds are almost but Breese Hall, he's
having a nice resurgent bounce back season. Maybe you can
pop some explosive runs on the Broncos, but I have
no idea. Well, that is the one thing, and that's

(12:49):
what I was going to get rough here at the
end of this is the only thing I'm worried about.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
The Jets are showcasing Breesehall because they're trying to trade him.
Allen was going to be their guy going forward, and so,
you know, they Braylan Allen and then they you know,
they wanted to get something out of Breece Hall, and
so they've been started showcasing him this year. They kind
of made it known that they were trying to trade
him before the season. They just didn't get any takers
for what they were looking for, so trying to showcase
him now as the focal boy of the offense. So
that would be the thing that I would suggest you

(13:13):
look at is, you know, Brice Hall and Mason Taylor
are probably the two guys you need to watch out for.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
You put Sir Tan on Garrett Wilson, he'll shut that down.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
The rest of it, you got to figure out and
I don't know if that means putting Riley Moss on
Mason Taylor running out of the nickel, or put or
run a free safety look and put Jattie Barron on
Mason Taylor.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
I think you do the Zada. I think that's kind
of been.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
The role he started to carve out in this defense
right now. Is like the tight end killer that we
saw Broncos Country pining for a few seasons back. I
think you're going to see him deployed on Mason Taylor
the same way he was deployed on Dallas Goddard last week,
and he darnear blanked Dallas Godder. I think it was
an incredibly impressive showing from him and would have me

(13:56):
optimistic as a Broncos fan for hey, do we have
you know, I think there's only so much you can
slow brock Powers when he's at one hundred percent. But
do we have a quality option now better than most
teams have to slowing Brock Powers to eliminating Travis Kelcey
from the Chiefs game plan? And based on what we
seen from Baron these last few weeks, I think the
answer is yes.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Yeah, I mean that's that's the direction I tend to
lean toward you know how you defense that, But this
is again, the Jets are not a good football team
at all to Broncos should easily roll in this one,
and if they don't, that's that's going to be the
eyebrow raiser. So that's you know that both sides of
the football. I mean, I fully expect this thing to
be like, you know, twenty to three at the start

(14:37):
of the fourth quarter, twenty six at the start of
the fourth quarter, you know, and then you'll see Fields
get a back door touchdown once the Broncos kind of
let up a little.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Does the fact that this is an international game in
London make you feel more confident in the Broncos? You know,
it's not going to be an East Coast game where
you know, it's a good travel week whatever, and they're
not having to deal with the Jets home field advantages.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
To be a neutral crowd.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Or are you less confident because you're having to deal
with the jet lag and all the weirdness that comes
with an international game.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
I don't think there's anywhere you've done it before. Most
of these guys have done it before.

Speaker 1 (15:12):
I I you know that those games tend to be
a little sluggish, but we saw the offense pick up
in the second half of you know, Minnesota, Cleveland, you
know that, that kind of stuff. So I would not
be surprised if the first half under you know, hit
and then you saw the offense come alive. You know,
we'll call them Peter Frampton, because they come alive in
the second half. I wouldn't be surprised to see something

(15:34):
like that, you know, in the way that this thing blossoms.
We'll get some more into this as well as a
couple other observations and thoughts, and get some news. Bill
Belichick coming up here right after the break. Broncos Country
Night back up for this.

Speaker 2 (15:51):
I'll try to get to you guys here just a
little bit answering all your questions.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Though five six Sixpenser talked a little bit about what
we expect to see.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
In London.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
All your coverage starts at four thirty in the morning
here on KOA. It's yours truly, Yes, I will be
in here at four thirty am Sunday morning.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
That is a real thing that's really happening.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
I'm glad because I'm going to be itching to learn
all about the game, and I know you and Grant
are good.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Waking up on Sunday because it's not going to be
four thirty.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
I'm going to be getting here. I think I'm here
from ten until five. Okay, yeah, I'm here for the
seven hour Bronco react.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Okay, well four thirty the morning, I'll be here. And
if that's too early.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
For you can always meet myself and Nick Ferguson down
at the Burndown at seven am. It's a pajama party
we're doing. That's right where your pajama bottoms or a
T shirt, whatever, come as you are. I'll be in
pajamas down there at the Burndown seven am to I
believe like eleven am, whatever it is, whatever the Broncos
game ends, will be down there. They got great food, breakfast,
brunch we had. We had great breakfast down at the Burndown.

(17:02):
Last time, I had the French toast.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Nick had the.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
The Captain's breakfast. I think it's cold, but the eggs
and potatoes and all that it was. It was phenomenal.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
I didn't check it out until this season, but yeah,
the Burndown's been great. It's it's a good spot right
there in downtown.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Yeah, right, there on South Broadway. So coming out there
Sody a pajama party, where are you? Pajama's dead serious
about this.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
Not a joke. We're having the pajama party.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
This was suggested by the artistic Guila girl, So I'm
just rolling with it. But yeah, we're trying to get
Brad to show up in a onesie. Joel says he
has a onesie and we'll be there so.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
For the people who don't know those part of our
sales staff here and by heard. Yeah, I think you know.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
I unfortunately won't be able to make it because I'm
going to be working, but I implore you to get
a unicorn onesie, ben or something.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
They keep the tradition going.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
You just told me you don't have to be down
here till ten, so you got plenty of time to
be at the burndown early and then leave from there
to come here.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
I just you know, I got to make sure I'm
dialed in and I'm sharp and way to be dialed
in sharp and be right around myself and Nick Ferguson
LUs get a healthy breakfast. It's good for you any
other way. It is better to be doubted than ken
around here. You are a detractor on that stuff.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Plus, I'm just gonna be crapping on Justin Fields all game.
How do you that that Fields jokes come on down
to the burn down at seven am. I not want
that in my ear.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
It'll be like Jerry O'Donnell's bing Boks during the the Knicks.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
I'll be like h Lionel Richie all night long. Just
seven five, six, six nights. Here.

Speaker 1 (18:31):
We got several texts coming in. I'm moving to get
to some of these. The A two pointing out the
Giants have a ten day rest before they play the Broncos. Yeah,
that's that's a part of it. I mean, there's so
much like the Trap game to me is not the
Jets game uh here in uh you know in Lund.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
The Trap game to me is the game after it.

Speaker 1 (18:46):
That's a Giants game where you've got an actual quarterback
and you know, an actual actual skill position players that
can play an actual uh semblance of a defense and
uh oh, by the way, they're coming off ten days rest.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Yeah, that's the game that could catch the Broncos that one.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Or I think the you know, people are looking at
that upcoming slate and it is a lot of favorable opponents.
The Broncos will be favored and most, if not all
of these you know, next four or five games. But
I think the Cowboys game is another one that offers
some trap game potential with that offense.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
I tried to warn.

Speaker 1 (19:18):
People when Ryan Scheanheimer got hired, Dallas was gonna be
better than people thought. Now when they traded off Parsons,
I was like, all right, this is what are we
doing here? But if they had Parson, I mean that
team is not bad. That Dallas football team is good
and at Javonte Williams looks like a man rey born
there in Dallas. They've been doing it without Ceedee Lamb.
Last couple of weeks you had Flornoy coming up with
one hundred and whatever.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Yards it was through the air. They are that Dallas team.
They hired the right guy away from Arizona. So you
see what Arizona struggled to do right now is runing football.
Clayton Adams, who they hired away, keep your eye on him.
He's one of the most valuable assistant coaches in the league.
You aren't kidding. Arizona's run game was one.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Of the best units in terms of performing above your
talent level greater than some of your part in the
entire NFL.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
And you see him.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Go to the Cowboys, and I think a lot of
people understandably wondered, Okay, how much of this is going
to carry over because look at who they're working with
in the backfield, and the fact that is carried over
as much as it has is such a compliment to
Clayton Adams, to Brian Schottenheimer as well for landing him.
But I think you look at that offense, it could
potentially cause some trouble for you. And their defense doesn't

(20:24):
wow you, but Trayvon Diggs and dron Bland are very
opportunistic corners. If you know, bo Nix makes a bad
mistake or two, there's an interception or two in that game.
Their offense is so red hot that that might be
enough to bury you.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
And by that point CD should be backing at full health.
So that's that's something to keep your eye on.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
There.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
See fantasy football coming in questions coming in here. One
of them will see tight end Waller or Mason Taylor.
I think I'm probably goal with Darren Waller there. He's
been red hot since he came back to those first
two games, even if Miami overall has not been great.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Yeah, Justin Feels is going to be throwing the ball
a lot, but you don't expect it to be very productive.
I know that garbage time stat is favorable. He has
produced well in fantasy, But I'm kind of on the
Paul Trecherian side of this. I think this or charging
in side of this. I think it's going to be
a very hard matchup for fields this week, especially if
the Broncos can limit his scrambling ability. And I think

(21:21):
this Jets offense has so few weapons that a lot
of attention is going to be given to Mason Taylor.
You know, Garrett Wilson, Okay, we're addressing that with patzertan check.
How are we going to attack the breeze hall and
the Mason Taylor element. I think that's what's going to
be getting the Lion's share of the rest of the
game planning time on defense.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Yeah, and that's going to be you know, like I said,
Mason Taylor is good. I just don't know that this
is the week even tight ends against Vance, I don't
know that this is.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
The week as far as that kind of stuff goes.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
He's got a couple of the questions here, said Chris
Godwin or Romeo Dubbs Godwin if he plays Dubs, Yeah,
you know, lost in the wash there, Flex, Quinn, Shawn Judkins,
Tyler Warren or Crosskey Marry good Lord? How many this
a one team league and someone killed their draft this year.
Ye'll say Judkins has been red hot and he gets

(22:13):
a ton of carries. It's going to be probably figures
to carry the load again with Dylan Gabriel getting his
second start. Warren is at any time start what tight
end do you have if he's a flex?

Speaker 2 (22:23):
And then Crosskey merit is.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
Paul Charcherian said, had a breakout game last week and
is up against pretty soft defense against a run in Chicago.
So I think all three of those are viable plays.
I wonder who you have his running backs and tight
ends that those guys are your flex options.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
So and you know.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
What you mentioned, the Van Josef tight ends thing. I
got me curious. I wonder if that trend is starting
to change. Dallas Goddard just had his worst performance of
the season. Three catches for nineteen yards on the touchdown,
but nineteen yards by far As low As to the season,
about half as much as he's had in any other
game this year.

Speaker 1 (22:54):
One like Titans were lighted up against the Broncos in
the Bengals game, wasn't. I mean, Tyler Orn had had
a pretty good game as the Colts. But I'm trying
to think back.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Then some clutch yet. But he wasn't super productive.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
He just he came through in the moments you want
him to, right, and then you go back to the
opener on the Seattle Conco didn't have a big remember
a concu.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Doing much anything in that game.

Speaker 1 (23:15):
I think the backup tightand gunner Helm had one play
that he could have if he could have got both
feet and bounds or whatever.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
So yeah, maybe that's.

Speaker 1 (23:22):
One of those things that's uh, the advanced Joseph tight
end plays going away over the years as he starts
to figure out the uh something to.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Go there, let's see Brian says, well, we preview see
you at Iowa State. Uh that's probably a Friday thing.
Uh So I will, man, I'm scared about that one.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Then I'll tell you right now there was a culum
Caden Salter trying to read out that very tricky Iowa
State defense. I'd take the over on interception. Keep your
eye on the Iowa State quarterback to rock Obec. It's
Anthony Beck's son, and I like him. For the Pro game,
we'll see Matt Campbell. By the way, hey, coach Iowa State.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
He and Dan Lanning are getting some serious run from
teams that are looking, you know, looking down at the
college ranks to potentially get some get some coaches up
to the Pro Game. They're gonna be They're gonna be pressured.
I will say, to leave for the money. We'll see
if we'll see how that works out.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
Matt Campbell's one of the rare guys where I could
see it working because unlike Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, or
even Dan Lanning, he's not getting these crazy recruiting classes
year in year out. I think a lot of his
matchups he's had a talent deficiency. He's managed to bring
in the inspite of all that, the best recruiting classes.
I always say it is like ever seen in program history,

(24:31):
given him a lot of their best seasons they've ever
had in program history, and made him a yearly Big
twelve power.

Speaker 2 (24:37):
I think he's a.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
True program builder and player developer, leader of men. He's
the rare college coach I would be interested in. Yeah.
Like I said, he and Landing are both getting looks.
I think the New York Giants they want to bring.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
In somebody that's going to establish culture, that's going to
shock the culture of what it is that they have
because they feel like they've got pieces, not maybe not
a complete team, but pieces, and they want to establish
a culture there, and they're kind of concerned that the
staff that they have there now is not necessarily.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
Getting that done.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
Dan Lanning has been phenomenal in what he's done there
in Oregon. I think everybody sees it in those videos.
So they're going to try and lure them Moay. I
don't know if they're successful at all, but they'll try.

Speaker 2 (25:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
I he's got to check off that national championship before
he goes anywhere. I think, you know that's that's he's
so close to getting Oregon over the hump. I think
if you're the guy to get organ over that hump,
you are forever a legend in Eugene. And I wonder
if if that allure is too much for him to
leave if he doesn't get the job done this year.

Speaker 1 (25:42):
Yeah, I mean, you can pretty much punch your own
ticket there. If it doesn't work out in the pros,
you can always go back. I mean, look at you know,
guys who have success are successful like that.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
Like that's the thing about Matt Campbell.

Speaker 1 (25:51):
Like Matt Ruhle was the guy you know a few
years ago, and and then he came up to the
pro game.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Didn't quite work out.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
They couldn't get they could never get the quarterback thing situated.
And you know in Carolina even though they had Baker
an Sam Darnold at one point and it wound up,
you know, so he winds up going back though. We
got a good job back in Nebraska, and I think
he's enjoying that job there. Let's see what else we
got here through one four through and four that's Missouri
Saint Louis. Do you see Ingram getting more involved in

(26:19):
the offensive scheme after last week's showing.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
I think they're trying to Ingram is not the same
guy that he used to be.

Speaker 1 (26:27):
That's the thing, Like I think people misunderstand whatever Ingram is.
He's a screen He's a big slot receiver who catches
screen passes. You'll see a few other plays here or there,
but he's a short routes guy. He doesn't really I
mean unless he gets the ball in his hands in space,
he doesn't really offer you a whole lot in terms
of He's just like a move the chains guy. He's
not an explosive dynamic this whole like he's going to

(26:48):
be the Joker thing, which is why this is another thing.
Everybody laughed at me when I said at the time
because he was posting the joker pick.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
He's not the joker. I mean the jokers either R. J.
Harvey or Nate Adkins.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
He's a He's a possession receiver and to move the chains,
and that's that's kind of what he is. I wouldn't
be surprised he gets more targets, especially with Kroll and
that broken foot you know, going on right now, and
he'll be out there a little bit more. But he's
not you know, this is not a guy who's gonna
get you in ninety catches and you know, a thousand
yard He's just not that dude. You're you're talking about

(27:19):
a forty catch guy that you know, maybe five hundred yards.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
Yeah. I do think he could get more productive now,
and I hope he's closer to fully right or a
better version of Evan Ingram, because I do think what
he brings, even if it's not the most exciting thing,
is something this offense could really use right now. Without
Devon Valley, they haven't had the same level of success
attacking the intermediate parts of the field. But it's been

(27:45):
great on you know, the checkdowns, the screen stuff, your
CNM throw throw it deep down field a fair bit,
but they're really not exploiting that middle part of the
field that really is.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Sean Dayton's go to. I wonder if Evan Ingram can.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
Start to, you know, even if he's not a superstar,
but start to unlock that area of the field for
them some I think he saw that in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Well, I think comes into bow because I think I
don't think it's Sean that's I call this stuff over
the middle fielding. It's bo not seen in the middle
of the field, and we've got to we got to
figure that out and get him some easy button throws there.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
In order to get him comfortable with them.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Three six, says Waller Ertz Or Kyle pitts.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
Man. That's a good question.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Why does Falcons have I don't uh, I don't know
the Falcons are playing this week. Waller is my first
thought here, but I'm not a hunt for still Shrews.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
Yeah, I don't know that.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
I like in the Dome. I don't know that I like.
I don't like the matchup for Pitts. I probably going Waller.
I mean, he's he's been red hot these first two
weeks and really the only viable weapon there.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
So I'm probably still going with Darren Waller.

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Three and five, Guys, I'm coming to the Dallas game
with my son who's a Cowboys fan, and my grandson
who's a Cowboys fan. There's no way we can let
them beat us. I've talked way too much Toback for
that to happen. Oh, somebody's out over their skis a
little here. Well, I'll tell you what, three and five,
we'll pass that along. I'll pass that along in the
locker room and be like, look, we got we got
a listener over here at VCT who has talked a

(29:10):
lot of you know what to his son and grandson.
He's coming out for the game. We cannot let him down.

Speaker 2 (29:16):
Guys. Let's go kick the Cowboys ass all three.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
Yeah, Broncos haven't lost against the Cowboys. In something like
thirty forty years.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
It's been a lengthy amount of time, like it's like
the mid nineties.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
I think, yeah, it was the last time when the
glory days of Dallas was the last time I think
Dallas beat.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
A ninety three.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
I think, if I'm right, he which you know, you've
had a long long time to victory lap on them,
and I think you know you've got reason for optimism
going into that one.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
I don't. I wouldn't call it a lock.

Speaker 3 (29:44):
I wouldn't feel as confident about it as I do
this Jets game. But Broncos will probably be you know,
three and a half, four and a half, maybe five
and a half point favorites somewhere in there.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
Yeah, we'll see. Dallas has got a heck of an offense.
That's gonna be a fun game, uh to watch. Let's
see here we got Brian so Dan Lanning is better
than on sandars Fold, Yeah, I think so?

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yeah, what else we got here? The three or threes
is way this team that there's.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
No way, dude, that you have like all these players
like that, that same team we were talking about earlier.
His starters are Pooka. Yeah, and it's starting running backs
are Janty and Javonte Williams. I'm like, bro, you ripped
off your whole league.

Speaker 3 (30:22):
I mean, Javonte Williams is an impressive hit. I think
he slid a bit this year. But man, yea, how
do you get Pooka and Ashton gent and all these
other players that he's got. I'm like, this is just
like you are crushing your league right now. You have
no excuse not to win that money.

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Congratulations on that team. What
else we got here?

Speaker 2 (30:43):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Nine?

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Talk about Ingram? I would settle for a poor man's Kelsey.

Speaker 1 (30:48):
I don't even know these at because Kelsey is the
guy they look for in the red zone and they
don't really look at it. Ingram's way in the in
the red zone or low red zone. I mean that's
Atkins even comes in at that point to be the guy.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
So I don't know, now, you know?

Speaker 1 (31:03):
I mean to me, Ingram was always a between the twenties,
moved the chains guy, and that's that's what he was
going to be here. Obviously had a few injuries early on,
but unless he busts.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
One, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
You go see too many touchdowns I mean, he's only
ever had what four touchdowns in his career at a season.

Speaker 2 (31:17):
He's just not that guy, you know.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
And that's I mean, even when he's back with the
child and he may have had six in his rookie season,
but he's been a three or four touchdown a year guy,
even in high volume catches when Jacksonville, when he's getting
ninety catches a year, they just spammed him with screens
and because he's a bigger guy, figured that the corners
that they'd have lied up on him couldn't cover him
or couldn't tackle him.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
And it worked. He was fairly productive that year.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
I I mean, I don't know how much more we
need to see that. I do agree with you that
this is a different version of Evan Ingram, but I
do hope they try and find some ways to incorporate
him more because I do think he can solve some
problems for this offense potentially. But to your point, that's
going to need a Bonnix's cooperation too.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
Yeah, that's that's one of those things.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
It's gonna be, uh, it's gonna be fascinating.

Speaker 1 (32:04):
The Assemble force has been I'm worried you've talked so
much crap on Fields that he's gonna get his first
win and have the luckiest game of the year to
beat us.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Don't you put that evil out there? Don't you put
that evil on me? Rick and Bobby.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Yeah, I mean I'm in the Justin Fields camp and
I don't feel that confident in him getting to win.
But it's going to be a very fun Roncos Country
Tonight for me afterwards. If they do manage to somehow
blow that game, we'll have plenty of clips to play
back and savor.

Speaker 1 (32:31):
We gotta take a break, we come back, Sax partner
and Crime, the old podcast host. We're gonna reunite him
and it feels so good. Roccos Country Tonight back him
for this.
