Speaker 2 (00:08):
Redesigned iHeartRadio app where you can.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Dust off the archives of the Grant Smith Taking It
for Granted podcast as well.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Just don't listen to that episode with Benjamin Aubray which
I waste your times honestly the worst. How long was
it like our It was actually really great. Made me
understand you a whole lot more. Well, I don't need
people understanding me hating. It made me like you a
lot more.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I think people eat a
little background on me that I don't normally open. You
have a good way of opening people up, man, you
really do. That's part of the reason I'm such a
fan of the show when you did it, and why
I keep pushing you to keep doing more episodes. So,
but you know, as a homeowner, Now, what is it
like over there in Smith Estates anyway?
Speaker 2 (00:47):
It's a gated community inside of gated credit nks man.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
We just got the moatloaded up with some alligators to
keep the riff raff out like you sense.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah, things are going well. Sweet. I know where I
can get some gator tail.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
Let's go on out to the koa common Spirit health hotline.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Though I'm bringing our guy from my Aleah how to
Lance Sanderson.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
That's how you do it, buddy, you know what, diet
Sterling Archer. It's always great to be on the phone
with you, dude. It's so great to be back on
this show. So I'm just glad to be here, buddy.
How are you doing?
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I am, I'm doing well. I am basically Sterling Archer.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
I invented the that I was the first person to
discover the tactical usefulness of the turtle neck, the tactle neck,
if you will, and if you've ever watched Archer, you'll
love that.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
I am I'm split over this this London trip for
the Denver Broncos. On the one hand, you got a
dub and and I'm a big proponent of saying, you know,
in the regular season, nothing matters but the final score. However, man,
with that caveat the offense still looks like it's charitably
a work in progress. The defense is absolutely carrying this team,
(01:49):
and we very nearly lost to a Justin Fields helmed
Jets team that went for negative ten passing yards. And
it wasn't like they were clipping the run of the
ball helping the century mark there either.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
They had like eighty total rushing yards.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
You know, I'm going to come away with this with
a more positive take because I think that the biggest
takeaway that you need to have here is that the
Broncos offense continue to just shoot themselves in the foot,
and the special teams didn't help anything but a win
to win. And you have to understand that the Broncos
set themselves up in multiple different great opportunities to take
advantage of what was a way lesser Jets team, and
(02:29):
they just continue to shoot themselves in the foot. I mean,
you're talking about just to go on and diet try
here really fast. This Broncos team right now offensively is
the fourth most penalties in the NFL, second most yard
is against. And these penalties just continue to come at
the worst time. I mean, you get the Pat Bryant
false start on what third and one at the thirty
(02:50):
seven that moves you back to the forty two. You
get the exposed to play to de Troy Franklin where
on the crossing route he slips to tackle down to
the seventeen yard line, but unfortun you get the holding
penalty on that pushes you back to the minus forty
seven yard line. That's a forty yard penalty that forces
a punt. You've got two other first downs raised by penalty.
You've got a holding in the end zone by minors
(03:11):
for a safety. This offense actually did some really good things,
and they've done a lot of really good things. And
the play calling. I know that there's a lot of
people attacking Sean Payton for the play calling for this
offense right now, but there's guys wide open all over
the field. They've got a good job that they're doing
a great job up front of the running game. Like
there's so many things to take away from what you saw.
(03:34):
What was a very bad game from the Broncos offensively,
but then focus it into the positive and they can
clean up these stupid little mistakes and stop shooting themselves
to the foot. They could actually become a very good
offense moving forward. It's just cleaning up the stupid mental
mistakes and the stupid, stupid timing of these bad penalties
that could really change this offense and what they did
(03:56):
even against the Jets.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
That with Lance Anderson from I hoardly yeah, I tend
to agree.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I mean, that's sort of the thing when you see
the fans, you know, a clamoring on I give the
play calling to Davis web and stuff.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
I mean, that's never happening. That's that's ridiculous. Sempayton's not
giving up play calling or any that kind of stuff.
And it's not the play designs that are a problem.
Most of those play designs have a solution built into
him for just about everything.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
I don't like some of the two route stuff that
he does every once in a while.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
It's kind of the same play where they run that
kind of two route crosser, you know, that deep crosser thing.
I don't I mean, that net play has not worked
once this year, So I'm kind of at the point
where I'm like, all right, let's let's delete that one
for a little while.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
And then come back to it.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
But for the most part, you know, there's not really
much of a problem I have with with those kinds
of things. My problem with the air quotes play calling
is more in the sequencing and substitution of players taking
running backs at back out, not letting them get in
a rhythm. As Cody point out earlier, you get jk
ripbaff finally a seven yard run against a pretty good,
tough defense here. It's the first thing we do have
John over the sideline, and now we're bringing on Julia
(04:50):
McLoughlin for a minute. You know, it's just and there
are things to me that about what Sean Payton does
that just are head scratching at times.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
And I'm like, man, I are we optimizing what we
have here?
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Because you're right, this definitely could be a very good offense,
but everything here appears self inflicted, whether it's penalty from
the players or the coaching staff maybe not optimizing and
get letting guys get into a natural rhythm.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
No, I definitely agree with you, and that's one of
my biggest frustrations with this offense right now. And also
the lack of motion. Like every now and again you
get a great motion, whether it's Troy Franklin or Evan
Ingram going across the formation, even Marvion Ment. Every now
and again they do that. And when they do that,
they actually design up and scheme up wide open plays
like you've got there. There was a play it was
(05:38):
Troy Franklin runs across the formation, runs a wheel route.
You got Evan Ingram on an out route, Courtland Sutton
on another out route. Bow Knicks runs a play action path,
runs to his right hand side and hits Court and
Sutton for like a fifteen yard game. That's a great
schemed up designed to play to like offer an opportunity
(05:58):
to create an explosive play in the past game. You're
just not seeing that tied together. To me, the sequencing
is the biggest problem here. You're not setting up those
set it up and knock them down plays where you're
you're like like like the Kyle Shanahan offense. For for example,
we're gonna run outside zone, outside zone, outside zone, bootleg
off the backside. Then we got the streaker over the
(06:19):
over the top, throw the ball down the field, and
exploit the deep post routes something like that. Sean Payton
is is so constantly changing personnel, He's changing the design
of this offense so quickly and so rapidly that you
never really get into a rhythm offensively. You're not setting
teams up to knock them down and create explosive plays.
(06:42):
He has explosive plays designs, but he's not setting them
up to properly accentuate them. And even if he does
set that up, you're just not hitting them. Bonick's going
going back even to the Charters game. I mean, how
many times do we see the deep shots to Martin Nim's.
You got the deep shot to Colton's and that actually
hit for the touchdown. Bonix has these plays that are
(07:03):
designed perfectly to actually exploit defenses, and he's just not
hitting those throws. His footwork is not quite right right now.
He's a radic in the pocket. He's not understanding exactly
where whereas reads are at. He's not like just delivering
the football accurately. There's multiple different reasons as to why that.
It's not just the play calling, it's the execution of
(07:24):
the plays, and that, to me, it's a perfect circle
of why this offense hasn't really gained ground. It's the
play calling and the sequencing, but it's also the execution
from the players up front on the offensive line, Bonick,
or just players just not catching the football.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Well, yeah, I'm with you on that. To talk with
Lance Satderson from Ali huddle. I'm with you on that
a couple I want to go back to one thing
you touched on there. But there's definitely an execution component
that that we don't criticize enough.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
That's been a large part of some of the lack
of success This year too.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Sean Payton has added more motion to his offense than
ever before. I mean, he's still lacking I think at
the level of east Be I think we're probably in
agreement on that, but he's added.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
More to it. And just really there's four ways. There's
four reasons.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
You have motion, right, you have structural motion, which you
use to like alter the structural formation and and recalibrate
to a new look. You have informative motion, which is
is the type of motion we use to gather context
clues about how the defense is play and Matterson that
kind of stuff. Advantage motion, which you used to like
create an advantage for players. You talk about that with
the Troy Franklin thing. You already got him going at
(08:25):
full speeds and now you get out of there. And
then you have you know, traffic motion, which you usually
just used to like create a block situation, that kind
of thing you know in a play, as well, and
it just feels like we have we have invented a
fifth type of motion in this offense called token motion,
where we have a guy in motion, but what.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Are we really doing here?
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yeah, exactly, And like going back to where you're saying,
like I call it coverage dictation, so like identifying if
you're an in zoner man and the Broncos did that
a couple of times against the Jets. It's specifically on
one play where they have Marvin Nim's going, you know
you've got it's a two by two that Marvin Mins
comes in motion across the formation and you've got man
(09:04):
covers on the one side. It's I think it was
an RFO. I'm not quite sure, but I think it
was an RFO. They run. It's just a quick, a
quick little screen path to Marvin Min's on the boundary.
You miss a block from Pat Bryant, get a good
block from Cortland Sutton on the boundary, throw the ball
to Martin Mims. We've created a seven yard run. It's
(09:27):
not a running play, but it's a seven yard run.
Sean Payton's doing a great job of like using the
motion that he that he is using to create these quick,
explosive passing plays that are explosive runs, but they're not
actually running the football. And to me, that's the biggest
thing of how he is using creative play calling to
actually accentuate the running game that is already starting to
(09:50):
gain ground. If you can continue to do that utilizing
the motion that he is using, this offense can really
take off very quickly.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
Las Anderson from Mile high huddle as we look around
at the next game. The Giants are probably a team
that most people penciled in as a win for the
Broncos when predicting at the beginning of the season.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
You look at him over the last couple of weeks though,
and ever since they went full crea team Cowboys with
Jackson Dart and Cam scantipaal all of a sudden, they
got a little spark to that offense. The defense was
always underrated with what they had up front, but they
got a little spark on the offense all of a sudden.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Are we worried about this? Giants came at all?
Speaker 4 (10:32):
I mean it Candy and especially coming off of the
short week coming back from London. I mean, you're you're
you're already having the the travel back, So that's that's
a big thing. You don't have a really good look
at Jackson Dart, even though you got a couple of
games worth looking at him. And then this team right
now is struggling tackling at the second level, but there's
two many miss tackles like you've got in the Running
(10:54):
Game right now. Alex Kingleton. Yeah, he's flying around to
the ball, but there's still too many miss tackles on
his tape. Justin Surnad, who's been playing very very well
in the absence of Drake Greenlaw, the Running Game kind
of scares me. Against this Giants team and that offensive
lineup front, they're doing a pretty good job of protecting
Jackson Dart and his ability to extend plays and just
(11:16):
be created with the ball in his hands. I don't
think that we're scared of the Giants right now, but
it's definitely something to take a look at.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
Yeah, I am a little worried, especially with the left
guard situation. Part was he was a disaster, but he
was definitely a liability in that game against the Jats.
A couple of big time flags that really hurt the offense.
One they got away with and managed to overcome. He
wasn't particularly adept at blocking, and as much as I've
had criticisms of both Powers and Wattenburg, part and Wattenburg
(11:43):
was significantly worse together in those two gaps. Brockmrton gonna
get some snaps this week that brought Qui Bailey in
for a visit, but they don't really seem intent on
going out and making a big splash there.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Even with Powers out for an extended period of time.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
How big a detriment do you think that could be
to protecting both Nicks.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
With Dexlan Lawrence up front, that's definitely a big problem.
You got to look at like this, This Giants offensive
lineup front or a defensive lineup front is absolutely spectacular,
and they're doing a great job of rotating Kevon Thibodeau.
They're doing a great job of bringing an abdual Calor.
They got Brian burd To is second in the in
the league right now in zacks behind both Nick Benito.
(12:21):
Like the pass protection to me is where it really
kind of falls down, because where his issues were were
not in the running game. I actually thought he did
a really good job in run blocking. In pass protection
where he fell over what twice and had two bad
holding penalties. Again, you had third and one at the
(12:42):
thirty seven yard line, you get the big play from Franklin,
and then that's automatically held back because Matt had that
bad holding penalty, pushes you back on the back side
of the fifty yard line, put you in the third
and sixteen and forces of punt like, that's a forty
yard penalty, dude, Like, that's a terrible, terrible penalty. So
to me, it's it's a pass protection. Part can do
(13:03):
well enough in the duo game, where where this offensive
line right now has actually had very good success running
duo and power person not the mover that that powers was,
especially as a bullying in the running game. To me,
it's a pass protection and if part can't really stand
up against what is a lethal pass rush from the
New York Giants, it's going to be it's gonna be
(13:25):
a bad look up front from this offensive line.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
This week that it is last standerson from Mile Highuddle.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Let's tellus a little bit about the Mile High Huddle
meet up you got going on there.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yeah. He was asking me about that.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
He was down at the the pajama party we had
this past Sunday.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
He was asking me about that. With the Losagni thing,
I'm like, I don't know. It might be dead.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
I don't We'll resurrect that though. Where can where's the
go ahead?
Speaker 4 (14:45):
The Lasagna thing is actually going to be. It's going
to be a thing. I just got to figure out
a way so we can actually get everybody together. And
once we get the once we get the funds, once
we get everything, like the time that I can get
down there to go do that, the Lasagnie bake off
is going to happen.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Okay, well, we'll get back on track with it. Where
is Where is the Mile High Huddle meet up again?

Alrighty, Well, I will try to make an appearance over
there if I get a little bit of tin.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
You know how it is.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
It gets electic on game days around here. But I
will try to make an appearance there this year.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Yeah, I would appreciate at least, if nothing else, if
we could we'll be there Saturday night and first drinks
on me. Buddy, you got my phone number. Let's let's
let's hang out.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
We'll make it happen. Brother, We'll make it happen. Lad
Sanderson from Mile High Huddle, appreciate the time.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Thanks to Lads Saturday Center for joining us in the
last segment, really being Cody Rourke joining us in the
first hour, misterdy. Part of that go to Broucos Country Night,
dot Com, Slash Podcast, Rovich Podcast, Apple two, Spotify Free
and redesigned, iHeartRadio app nailed it as you always do.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Uh love it. Let's get the Info six pack. It's
time for the NFL six pad.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
I'm gonna train a lot of beer about insight. Did
insight information you can't find anywhere else?
Speaker 3 (16:24):
No.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Six the top six NFL headlines.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
One after the forty nine ers got beat down by
the Bucks on Sunday thirty to nineteen. More tough news
as an MRI confirmed the bad news for linebacker Fred
Warner dislocated and fractured right ankle. It looked pretty gruesome
as it happened on the field. Warner will undergo season
(16:49):
ending ending surgery on Tuesday, coach Kyle Shanahan said today.
Shanahan said Warner should return in time for the team's
off season program. Went on this, I think usually things
like this are around three months. But I haven't asked
all the questions you guys are asking me yet, but
I assume he'll be good for the offseason workouts and
stuff like that. Warner had only missed one game in
(17:12):
his eight year career, sitting out a game in twenty
twenty one with a hamstring injury. He played through a
broken bone in his ankle last season.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
More injury news for the forty nine ers.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
They are expected to get George Kittle back next week.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
But what are their plans at inside linebacker?
Speaker 5 (17:29):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Sure, it would be nice to have a ready to
go guy like Drake Green. Oh oh wait, wait, it'll
be next man off.
Speaker 1 (17:37):
They've been looking at edge rushers. They were looking to
go spend on edge rushers. Now that we're at Fred's out,
That may change that play a little bit. They've been
sniffing around the Trey Henderson thing from the Bengals. You know,
I don't know if you can go out and do
that now with Fred Warner out like that, unless you've
really really got somebody at the linebacker position that you
feel like is gonna be good enough for you to
(18:01):
be able to do that. Otherwise you're gonna have to
figure out a way to shuffle that money. You kind
of it kind of stuck into a rock at a
hard place because you paid rock party. It's now the
money in the cap space and all that kind of
stuff isn't exactly there, and it's just tough to you know,
to sort of do some of the things that you'd
like to do. You were eyeballing, okay, well, you know
who's always reliable. You never thought about him getting a
injury getting out of there. You were eyeball on the
(18:23):
defensive end thing.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
You know, we'll see there's not a whole lot of
inside backers available right now that you would want to spend.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
The draft capital on. So they really you're really kind
of hoping.
Speaker 1 (18:35):
There's a there's a good next man up there as
far as that stuff goes overall, I mean they've been
banged up. Niners have just been brutally banged up all
the year. Getting kiittled back will be big for him.
But again, I mean there's so many injuries on that team.
They've got to figure someth that. Alex it's just get hurt.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
And Fred Warner the heart and soul of that defense.
He did everything. It was a green doc guy and
cover backs and coverage. So very tough loss for the
forty nine ers.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yeah, it really is.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
And again I mean looking at Luke Gifford or Tatum
Bethune to come up and step up.
Speaker 2 (19:06):
Who back Jones?
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Thinking with the forty nine ers for one more story here.
On Sunday, forty nine Ers receiver Juwan Jennings initiated an
animated first half conversation with coach Kyle Shanahan, and today
Shanahan downplayed the interaction. He said, I think when you're
in an intense football game and stuff, the two people
who know each other pretty well and are pretty competitive
about things can really have intense conversations that don't always
(19:32):
come off as a normal conversation just hanging out a
very press conference with you.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Shanahan told reporters.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
But a stuff like that you don't need to make
too many assumptions about because it wasn't anything that big
of a deal. Yeah, we were aggressive and intense in
our conversations, but I think conversations like that can also
lead to making people closer and leading to a better
outcome for people. Went on to say, I think Juwan's
in a good mental space. I think Juwan's a very
(19:58):
emotional player. I think that's one of the things that
makes him great. So anytime we have a tough loss
like that, he is banged up and playing through a
lot of stuff. I don't think he's in the best mood,
especially after a loss like that, But Juwan is good.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
Do you think there's any more to this story? Oh,
there's absolutely.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Jawan Jennings is unhappy with his usage while he's out
there bus and his butt banged up and all that
kind of stuff. He finished with one catch for seven
yards on only three targets throughout the entirety of the game. Meanwhile,
Kendrick the Bourne identity over there with one hundred and
forty two yards on five catches on nine targets. It's
just getting everything thrown his way. Him McCaffery and tongas
where the where all the targets are going? And so
(20:37):
Juwan Jennings, I get it. I mean he's competitor. He
wants the ball throwns. Give me the ball a little
bit more, let me make some plays. And made that
known to Kyle Shannan. Kyle's doing what coach a good
coach does and not throwing his player under the bus
and saying, you know, it's heat of the battle all
that kind of stuff. But yeah, Jawan Jennings is like, Yo, dude,
you're not paying me, You're not targeting me.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
What am I doing here gutting it.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Out for you guys while you're while you're sitting here,
you know, while I'm sitting here dealing with.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
This, and I think, what you hit on something right
there that you're not they're not paying him. I mean,
he had a big offseason dispute with him about his
contract and now he's out there playing injured and they're
not throwing him the ball. That's what I'm saying. You've
gotten it through injury. You're not targeting, I mean, you're
not paying it.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
That's that's the trifecta of uh It's perfect triangulation of
angst for a wide receiver three well.
Speaker 3 (21:21):
Speaking of some anger issues, Brian Branch suspended one game
for conduct at the end of the Lions Chiefs game.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
If you haven't seen.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
This video, you got a pretty good couple of punches
in on Juju. Lion safety Brian Branch has suspended without
pay for one game for his action at the end
of the loss to the Chiefs. After quarterback Patrick Mahomes
took a final kneel down, Branch went behind the line
of scrimmage and struck Kansas City receiver Juju Smith Schuster
in the face mask with an open hand, inciting a
(21:51):
fracas between the two teams. Head coach Dan Campbell apologized
and his postgame press conference for Branch's actions. Branch also apologized,
calling his acts and actions childish, but is now appealing
that one game suspension. NFL VP of Football Operations John
Runyan issued the suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct. He said, your
(22:12):
aggressive non football act was entirely unwarranted, post a serious
risk of injury, and clearly violated the standards of conducts
and sportsmanship expected of NFL players. Your conduct reflected poorly
on the NFL and has no place in our game. Personally,
I don't think Runyan has much room to.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Talk on that.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
And, as I said, Branch appealing the suspension, suspension which
will be heard and decided upon by Derek Brooks, Raymond
Foster or Jordan Nuss or Ramone Foster, Yeah, or Jordan Nelson.
Branch clearly has a history of conducts issues. What do
you make of the suspension and will he.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Win his appeal?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Well?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
First things first, if you traveled back in time to
tell player John Runyan that he would be issuing that
statement to another player, it would be would be hilarious.
You'd get laughed out of, you know. Any Way, as
far as the rest of it goes, I mean, yeah,
he's right. Branch had no place. That's there's no place
for that on the field.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
What are you doing?
Speaker 1 (23:06):
Branch was frustrated at what was happening between snaps where
players were getting cheap shots in on it.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Fair enough, take it to the ref, take.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
It to take the reef and cut up the replays
and send it into the league.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
There are mechanisms for that. Man. Just don't let your
emotion get the better of you. On that kind of stuff,
you'd be all right. And that was the problem. Branch.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Let the motion of the moment get the better of him.
It was already it's a loss. You already put your
heart and soul out there. You know it's a loss.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
And you would have did this. There's a wrong answer.
You can't do that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
You cannot let your emotion get the better of you,
because now what's gonna happen is everybody's gonna try you.
Now that everybody's seen it. You can't control yourself. Everybody's
gonna try you. Just set yourself up at the entire
get right. That's exactly what it is. That everybody in
their mother is gonna try and get under your skin
in every way they know how.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Uh, And that's that's what they're gonna do. So you know, I, Branch,
I mean, there's no excuse for that.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
You got fined, you got suspended, and now you're also
set yourself up for everybody coming after you.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
I hope you're ready for the smoke.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
What do you think of the chiefs man after the
rough start this year? This isn't one of the questions,
but I thought I had I mean, it seems like
they're ready to be back and contend for another Super
Bowl this year.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
With their last couple of performances, I was worried.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
I was worried about them once they started getting receivers back,
like early on, everybody said they're cooked, and they started
writing obituaries and all this kind of stuff. And I'm like, man, look,
I know everybody thinks I'm a Kansas City haunk because
I lived.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
There for a couple of years. This this is not that.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Like, look, they've got a great quarterback and they're getting
some receiving talent back.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
They don't even have Hershey Rice back yet.
Speaker 1 (24:33):
I know, Like you guys don't understand, Like, like, the
defense looks slow.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
The defense looks like it's got some issues. They hung
on to Kelsey and Jones too long.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
Yeah, Kelsey looks slow, but he's still catching six catches
for eighty five yards.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
They're just using him as the sauce spot in the zone.
Guy he's got They've got the report we can get
away with.
Speaker 1 (24:51):
There's a you know, Grock at the end of the
career was washed, you know, but he knew he had
that connection with Brady, knew how.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
To sit down and his own and you can. You can.
You can buy yourself a couple of years of a
career off that.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
So yeah, I mean, look, Kansasy's gonna be a problem
downe stretching, and unfortunately we get them to the back
half of the year. I was really hoping we'd get
them early when they were dealing with this stuff.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
It's gonna be interesting to see.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
It's gonna be a hell of a hell of a
game our defense against that offense, once it gets up
to full strength, it's gonna be a.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Hell of a game.
Speaker 3 (25:17):
Four going to college football for this one. The surprising
news of the weekend to some, but not to everyone.
Penn State made the stunning decision to fire head coach
James Franklin in his twelfth year with the Nitney Lions
on Sunday, a major shakeup at the top that comes
after the team's three straight losses this season. Quarterback Drew
(25:39):
Aller also out for the year with an injury. Franklin
and Penn State, who were just one win away from
playing in the title game in last year's College Football Playoff,
entered twenty twenty five as serious national championship contenders. But
haven't lived up to those expectations through six games, all
starting when they were a huge favorite against UCLA and
(25:59):
lost that game.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Cal in California.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
In the wake of the programs coaching upheaval, Penn State
eighty Pat Craft opened up about the decision to fire
Franklin in a press conference today. Kraft explained that his
main motivation was to build the best program in the country,
and Franklin apparently wasn't a part of.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
Those plans anymore.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
Kraft went on to describe his decision process behind letting
Franklin go and that he knew he was going to
make the call Saturday night after Penn State's twenty two
to twenty one loss to Northwestern.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Yeah, a couple of different things here, one of which
is whether or not Craft is really behind the decision,
whether or not it's unifour spots or Adidas.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
Franklin denied that and Didntey lyons O James Franklin forty
eight point six million dollars, the second largest buyout amount
in college football history for those keeping him track at home.
But reports were emerging that Adidas, who is set to
enter a partnership with Penn State next season was the
driving force behind it.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
And that they'd agreed to pay most roll of the buyout.
Speaker 1 (27:04):
The university spokesman denied that uh and said that it
was false. But there's there's smoke behind this thing, and
there may be more to it. You know, it all
said and done, it's Uh. James Franklin was a very
winning coach at Penn State. He just couldn't win a
big one. And that's eventually you're gonna wear at you welcome.
(27:27):
I mean, that's just that's just the nature of the beast.
I mean, even a program like Penn State, which has
the longevity, you know, you get to a certain point
and and I don't think you U c l eight
thing was all that bad U c l A showing
that they're actually a heck of a football team. Now
they got Jerry new Eyes again this week. Yeah, all
of a sudden, they got a little something. You know,
with all due respects to Deshaun Foster, who's an acquaintance,
(27:48):
you know, they the coaching as all of a sudden
picked up, Uh, since he's been gone. Look, I I
like James Franklin. I like to James Franklin before he
was I think he's a good coach. He'll obviously land
on his feet. He's got it a huge buyout. I mean,
I don't feel sorry for him. At fifty million dollars buyout,
you get fifty million dollars in stet on the couch.
(28:09):
They're paying you fifty million to not coach. Not a
bad deal, you know, not? Yeah, not a bad deal
at all. He'll absolutely have a job next year if
he wants it. Uh, He's got options, so I'll figure
that out, and I'm sure wherever he goes will also
be successful. I'm just gonna tip the cap to the
successful stuff that he did at Penn State and say
to Penn State or Segrass ain't always greener, even if
(28:29):
you do get Nick.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Saban, which apparently is something that they are.
Speaker 3 (28:33):
Okay, I was gonna look a good Matt Rule and
leaving the Brass.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
He's one of the names I look. I haven't talked
to Matt this. I haven't talked to him since before
the season started.
Speaker 1 (28:43):
I've known coach Rule for well, since he got his
start as a linebacker's coach at Albright College, which is
a real it's all right university now. But yeah, I
haven't talked to coach rules since since the start of
the season, But I will say.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
I don't think he's leaving the brass.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Never say never, but it feels like he's finally built
what he went there. Yeah, I just say I think
he's entrenched to the point where he's gotten comfortable there
and got what he I don't know, you never say never,
but I didn't get the vibe that he was looking
anywhere else earlier.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
That he didn't have his eye on anything else.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
And you can when you're talking to these guys like
you can tell if they're you know, if they're happy
where they are, or if they're quietly looking.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
You know, he wasn't looking back then.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Five see Hiller's head coach Mike Tomlin criticizes Brown's GM
Andrew Berry for shocking Jack Joe Flacco trade to the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
Here's what he had to say.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
You know, to be honest, it was shocking to me.
Andrew Berry must feel a lot smarter than me or us,
because it doesn't make sense to me to trade a
quarterback that you think enough of to make your opening
the day starter to a division opponent that's hurting in
that area. But that's just my personal feelings.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
What did you make of head coach Mike Tomlin's comments
about Brown's GM Andrew Berry.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
I think Mike Tomlin has a ton of respect for
Joe Flacco.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
You know, he started to play him twice a year
for a number of years back when when Flacco was
with the Ravens.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
He's obviously seen Flacco a number of times with the Browns.
I think Mike Toman has a tremendous respect for Joe Flacco, and.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
He doesn't like the fact that the Bengals are getting better,
Like what are you doing trade in the division to
help a division vogue get better?
Speaker 2 (30:23):
So, yeah, I think you fired a little shot across
the bow. I don't know if it's you know, it's direct.
I mean he's directly to Andrew Berry.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
But I don't know if it's if it's that more
than it's like what are we doing here?
Speaker 2 (30:33):
Uh, you know kind of thing.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
You know, Overall, that move didn't make a ton of sense.
If Flacco win some games for him, so be it.
But that that move didn't make a ton of sense
to me. That other ways I would have.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Gone with it if I were Cincinnati, let Russ Cook.
Speaker 3 (30:47):
Yeah, I would have gone that direction, which he may
still be on the move. By the way, the Jets
have the opportunity to do the most hilarious thing ever.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
But we'll see end of the day. I get where
Tomin's coming from on that though.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
What are you doing? Put? You know we had the
begels down and out. What are you doing? That's your
across the state rival? What are you doing?
Speaker 4 (31:05):
Right?
Speaker 3 (31:06):
No one should be trading to them in their division,
especially the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
But the Browns are gonna brown. Brown's gonna brown. Six
and two up.
Speaker 3 (31:15):
Tongue bai Loa making headlines for off the field comments.
This is what he had to say to reporters after
the Dolphins game yesterday.
Speaker 6 (31:24):
Well, I think it starts with the leadership in helping
articulate that for the guys, and then what we're expecting
out of the guys, right, we're expecting this? Are we
getting that? Are we not getting that? We have guys
showing up to only player only meetings late, guys not
showing up to player only meeting Like, there's a lot
that goes into that.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
Do we have to make this mandatory? Do we not
have to make this mandatory?
Speaker 6 (31:47):
So so it's it's a lot of it's a lot
of things of that nature that we got to get
cleaned up. And it starts with the little things like
that being.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
Clear, you're saying some players or or missed late.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Ye know that after the Dolphins felt to one in five,
after it looked like they were gonna beat the Chargers
bost on a last second field goal. What do you
make of tous comments? Isn't that something you should be
keeping in the locker room.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Yeah, there's so many layers of this.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
First of all, what are you doing aaron internal business
at a press conference.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
That's for a coach, that's not for you. Second of all, if.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
It's players only meeting, dude, you're the quarterback, you're the leadership.
If there, if they're skipping or being late, that's on you.
They don't respect you enough to be there on time.
They don't respect you enough to be there to be there.
And Andrew Whitworth said the exact same thing. Right, Okay,
I haven't seen it, but I mean there's so much
to this, Like at the end of the day, like,
wait a minute, how many players only.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Meetings you guys? Haven't you know? There's a sign of dysfunction.
Speaker 1 (32:47):
It almost looks like you're having players only stuffed out
at the stadium every Sunday because they said.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
It doesn't look like as much coaching happening. All the
respect to our guy, Mike McDaniel.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
That you know, to a wrong guy, wrong time, wrong words,
wrong place, keep the internal keep the inside stuff inside
the house.
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Man, just say it.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
Yeah, And Mike McDaniel looks like he's going to be
out of there sooner than.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
He'll he'll be at the end of the year. I
don't think you're part of his season.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
We'll see Rocos Country Tonight rolls on at this
