Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm your guest host Grant Smith, filling in for Benjamin
(00:02):
Albright as he was on KOA Sports earlier today five
six six nine zero the Common Spirit health text line.
Thanks again to the Hall of Famer Steve Atwater given
Nick a bunch of crap today. I always enjoy that
he joined us in the first hour. If you missed
any of that, you can find it at Kowacolorado dot
com or on the free and redesigned iHeartRadio app. We
(00:24):
can now set KOA as a preset, just like you
do in your car. Nick, you ready to go around
the league and do our Week six NFL recap's total upset.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Let's do it. Let's do it. We'll start out with
Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
We were talking about the Broncos next matchup with the
Giants with Steve in the last hour, and they got
a big win over the Eagles on Thursday Night Football.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Go cart under center takes a step, hands it for Stataboo,
climbing forward toward the ends.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Stataboo is in touchdown New York Turnlnet prestatable.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Three touchdowns for cam Scataboo. That called courtesy of Westwood
One and Jason Bennetti and the Giants.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Man, they look like a new team.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Yeah, they do.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
And you can say, well, the Eagles look like man,
they have no chemistry, they have a lot of issues.
But you gotta tip your cap to those young guns
in New York and they're gonna save Brian Dables and
Joe Shane's job because when you look at offensively what
they're doing from a confidence standpoint, both Cam scattabul and
(01:33):
Jackson Dart had more rushing attempts and carries than there
I say, Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, and you think of you know, the quarterback rushing
with alongside the running back. You think of the Eagles
Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley. But it was the opposite
in that game, Jackson Dart and camp Scattaboo.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Like you mentioned, you.
Speaker 6 (01:52):
Know what, it reminds me of a team that Brian
Dable is quite familiar with and which helped him get
his head coaching job, Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
That's right, And then we'll go next to the Rams
taking down the really bad Ravens.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
At this point, Stafford ask Versuta Golf takes a snout.
Boot's out the right side early to the flat all alone.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Tyler Hickbe struts in the big Rig Higgs with a spike.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
They had a two touchdown lead on the road in Baltimore.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Now that's a nickname, big Rig Higgs called courtesy of JB.
Long kspn Rams find a way to win seventeen to
three over the Ravens and bye week couldn't.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Come at a better time for the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 6 (02:35):
Man they definately needed. They need to get healthy right now.
They need to go back and regruth. And this is
one of those teams who I think everyone had on
the stat sheet as being one of those contenders.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
They were a light Super Bowl favorites.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
Right now they don't look like it.
Speaker 6 (02:52):
They're just trying to survive and trying to get into
the wild card. But here is something I mean, Derrick
Henry after having a cup the leaks of fumbles, he
didn't have any touchdowns, twenty four carries, one hundred and
twenty two yards.
Speaker 5 (03:04):
They really leaned on him.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Heavily, as they should do the rest of the year.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Next to Cowboys at the certain suddenly red hot Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 7 (03:13):
It's gonna be a thirty three yarder for the win
and a chance to get to five hundred.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
J J.
Speaker 7 (03:20):
Janson the Federal ble Champson to snap, Mark puts it
down pits Jerald swings the lead. The kick is good
at the Panthers w it.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
That called courtesy of WRFX A Niche Shroff and Man.
I gotta say that was a very entertaining game to watch.
When I got home after working the Broncos game early
morning on London, I was like, damn, I gotta watch
the Cowboys and the Panthers. And then it was a
fight right down to the wire, with the Panthers coming
away with the victory thirty to twenty seven.
Speaker 6 (03:50):
You know what, I'll say, he is really quick about
Dallas Cowboys beg Proscott is probably one of the more
scrutinized quarterbacks in the league. He is surprisingly having a
eight years a quarterback, I mean twenty five and thirty
four two sixty one three touchdowns. The only thing he
was missing his run game didn't come along. But frec O'Donnell,
the former Cowboy. Hey, he came to play, and he
(04:13):
came to party.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
I'll to my own horn. I picked him up in
my Fantasy Sea and he won me.
Speaker 5 (04:19):
Yeah, good for you.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Yeah, Rico Dowdell baby getting his revenge.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Next, we'll go to the Cardinals at the Colts Jones
who quick pitches the.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Left side to Jonathan Taylor to do touchdown. Indeed for
Chinna Penn Taylor and the Colts.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Indeed rete Khalad thirty took twenty seven.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Man, so many good games on the NFL slate this
past weekend that called courtesy of Matt Taylor with w
f N.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
I and the Colts just keep on winning.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Man, There's something special about Jonathan Taylor.
Speaker 6 (04:54):
And I know they said running backs have a short
shelf life, but he continues to turn out games and
good seasons year after year. And I'm hoping that watching
you know, Derek Henry last year, Jonathan Taylor this year,
that we'll get that boss narrative change where everyone starts
talking about the quarterbacks and the running backs don't get
any love. Because for me, I think Jonathan Taylor is
(05:17):
in the running for the MVP of the league.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
Yeah, we'll hear from another running back that may be
in the MVP conversation at the end of this segment.
But next we'll go to the Seahawks taking down the Jags.
Darnald out of the shotgun actually has jsm now with
him in the backfield, Blitz coming time to throw back corner.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Balls con touchdown Seahawks Cooper Cup makes.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
That catch sliding front corner of the end zone.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
That call courtesy of Steve Rabel.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
With Kiro and the Seahawks going on the road after
the Jags took down the Chiefs and the Seahawks and
Sam Darnold getting another win.
Speaker 6 (05:58):
Yeah, you know what, this was, Ray and I was
looking forward to this game to see if Trevor Lawrence
they could put like three games together. But this is
how life is. When we started to win, everyone's now
coming after you. But once again, it seems as though
it's gonna be a common theme as we break down
the line of these games. The quarterback and Trevor Lawrence
played well. They didn't run the ball. Well that's a problem.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Yeah, it certainly was for them this past week. And
it seems like everyone's given the beat up LA Chargers
her best shot, including the Dolphins. But the Chargers eke
out a close win in Miami. Herbert gotta get rid
of it. Able to break a tackle. Here we go, Lad.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Mccauckey next to man, miss Lad to the forty, to
the thirty, to the twenty. Lad still want to speak.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Upside of Bout's left sideline, want to play, Oh Lad mccauckey, Oh.
Speaker 1 (06:49):
Lad McCage, Matt muney Smith Loving that one with Kfi
And that was a big play that led to that
last second field goal to get the Chargers to win
twenty nine to twenty seven in States to top the
AFC West with our Denver brows.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
O Man, I love lamb McConkey because he reminds me
of a more athletic and faster third and renfro who
used to play for the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
Who know is with the Caroline the Panthers And how
big was.
Speaker 6 (07:14):
It for lambmakonkie and Maple tackle play not to give
up and put his team in position in the kicker
field goal?
Speaker 2 (07:21):
That seems like justin Herbert, just like one play every week.
You're just like, I want did he do that?
Speaker 5 (07:25):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Like he's just amazing sometimes and it's unfortunate.
Speaker 6 (07:29):
For him that his team, like the San Francisco forty
nine Ers, are sustaining a lot of injuries. That's gonna
help hurt his team as far as playoff position.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Next the Browns. The Browns taking on the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (07:42):
Rogers gets a snap back to pass looking pump pitched
right now, wants to.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Go to Metcalf passive in the end touchdown to killing
Metcalf Pittsburgh Steelers, who score.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
To go up twenty two to six, pending.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
The extra point that called courtesy of Rob King with
w D and everyone games. The Steelers quite a hard
time for signing Aaron Rodgers in the offseason, but it
seems to be paying off. They are starting out the
season hot.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Oh they are.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
And I always thought this would be a great matchup.
You know, Aaron Rodgers needed to have another alpha male
as a head coach, and he has that with Mike Tomlin.
But when you think about this game for Cleveland, I
mean Dylan gabral Man a fifty two passing.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Attempts, it's time for Shadura.
Speaker 5 (08:27):
Well, I'm not gonna say that.
Speaker 6 (08:28):
The problem was they can get Quishan Jenkins going. And
you know, you tipically cap to the Pittsburgh Steelers for
doing what they were doing. But coach prom said himself
at some point chador is gonna get his time and
it could come over the next couple of games.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Well, the time for Drake May and the New England
Patriots is now coming off that big win over the Bills.
Looked like they were in trouble for a while, but
they find a way to win over the Saints twenty
five nineteen.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Sack May, Stan jam Gross on your side, Buddy shut
into the end zone, A plant up to play.
Speaker 8 (09:02):
It's a touchdown, head shot.
Speaker 9 (09:06):
We got a head shot.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
Yep, yeah, Bob soci with WBZ on the call. Booty Booty,
Booty rocking everywhere with the Patriots beating the Saints twenty
five nineteen.
Speaker 6 (09:19):
You know, I read somewhere that Booty had to buy
like forty.
Speaker 5 (09:23):
Tickets for people.
Speaker 6 (09:25):
That's a lot of tickets and a lot of taxes
he had to pay on those tickets.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah, but he made it worth it. Touch that well,
yeah he did.
Speaker 6 (09:33):
But I tell you this, Drake May has people in
New England thinking he is the second coming to TV twelve.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
Could that be possible?
Speaker 1 (09:42):
Oh man, he looks like it right now. More athletic
TV twelve. I doubt he gets as many rings as
Tom Brady in New England though.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
We'll go next to the Titans taking on no ratus
inside the five, Gino up.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
The middle, ash It Checkie for the whole touchdown, Raiders
speedyons old, the Raiders pay off the opening drive and
go up six seed.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Nothing That call courtesy of Jason Horowitz with KRLV and
I think the Raiders have figured something out. Give Ashton
gent the ball.
Speaker 6 (10:16):
Yeah, I mean you drafted him in the first round
four reason and after you know, rezooming his college stance
in the backfield, things seemed.
Speaker 5 (10:25):
To open up for Aston Jensen. But you know what,
there's still a lot to question.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
About this Geno Smith led team and can this Raiders
team actually make a lot of noise or it was
just a whole bunch of smoke.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
Well, they got to win this week, taking down the
Titans and Titans firing their head coach after that game.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Raiders won twenty to ten.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Next, we'll go to the forty nine ers at the
Bucks and the Bucks getting another win despite all the
injuries they are racking up this season.
Speaker 7 (10:54):
Shot Gun looks Baker Mayfield, bell high snap looks up
Field fills a Baldautfield.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
He's un receiver all but.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
That's a cap touch stop turn up by touch stop Buckeer.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
It's Tess Johnson touchdown Buccaneers. What a proof by picker.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
Mayfield, What a catch the legendary Gene decker Hoff with
Wfus on the call. I had to give some love
to bow Knicks's step brother Tesz Johnson with a touchdown
Bucks win thirty to nineteen. And No, Tz, the MVP
chants were not for you, they were for being Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
No, I love the innocence of TEDS Johnson and digging
those MVP chants war for him. But I'll say this,
Bakers is having a great season and just can you
believe a couple of years ago people wrote him off.
Speaker 5 (11:38):
And I think what Baker's.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
Doing is inspiring other guys like Tedz Johnson because when
he come out of the draft, people thought he was
too small to get drafted.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
But to show that you can score and.
Speaker 6 (11:49):
Make touchdowns and what about that sensation of backflip that
was impressive.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Like Cam Skataboo has got a good one. But Tess Johnson,
he's got some vertical.
Speaker 2 (11:57):
On that back.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
Yeah, he got a little hysome springs to little GIDDEO.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
He certainly does. Speaking of gidea up none for the Bengals,
but plenty for the Packers and their win twenty seven eighteen.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Here's a fake candoff love bot making my comps it
off crap to the time of the five ye.
Speaker 5 (12:16):
A touchdown touchdown play.
Speaker 8 (12:18):
By a Packer touch down.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Tucker Clap, Wayne Larevie with WRNW on that call. Packers
win twenty seven to eighteen. I will say though, as
our resident Bengals fan, I saw a little glimmer of
hope there with the old man Joe Flacco throwing the
ball to Jamar Chase and t Higgins.
Speaker 6 (12:37):
Well, you know what, that's one thing that Joe Flacco
is known for. He's not known for being able to
pay pass rushers, but he can't skin that pigskin and
forty five attempts once again, that's entirely too many attempts.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
For a guy of his age.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
That just tells you that the systemy Bengals are still
struggling to get their run game on track. But I'm
sure a frustrated Jamar ch and his fantasy owners were
happy about the production.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
I certainly was. This week got me twenty some points.
Sunday night football game. I thought was gonna go the
other directions. The Chiefs take down the Lions thirty to seventeen.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Two receivers right, two tight ends left.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Bahomes of the gun on fourth to three, NOA ray
and motion from left to right.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Here's the snap. Mahomes back looks Grosse right.
Speaker 5 (13:22):
Side, wide open, worthy into the end.
Speaker 7 (13:24):
So touchdown Kansas City a six yard touchdown past the
savior are worthy?
Speaker 1 (13:30):
That call courtesy of Ryan Ragged He with Westwood one
and man, I'm starting to get a little nervous about
the Chiefs again.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
Well, I mean, the Chiefs are the Chiefs. They're gonna
give a sheet rice back. But it has proven that
this team is a beautiful team. They're not one of
They're not the boogeyman that they used to be. And
they just happened to catch Jery Golf and the Detroit
Lions with some injuries on their team, and you know,
Branch their safety. He's going to mix in the next
(13:57):
game because he had a little spirited conversation, would say
with Juju.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Smith, he got he got his message across. I'll say that, yes,
he did.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Hand fold excuse me, fa fo.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Going to the doubleheader of Monday Night Football. We were
talking about running backs being in the MVP conversation.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
I think V Jean Robinson is certainly there as well.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
But Jean Robinson to carry over the right side, has
a whole till the twenty five down the sideline of
the thirty across the forty breaks a tackle a midfield
John Robinson, He's gonna go all the way down the
right sideline for a touchdown eighty one yards?
Speaker 9 (14:37):
Man?
Speaker 2 (14:38):
Is he a stud?
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Had the most yards of his career last night and
the Falcons take down the now reeling Bills twenty four
to fourteen. That call courtesy of Kevin Coogler with Westwood One.
Speaker 5 (14:48):
So here's here's a couple of things that I noticed
in his game.
Speaker 6 (14:51):
Josh Allen, who you know, unlike his rookie career, I
mean rookie start, he turned the ball over twice, right,
and that's that we don't normally see from Buffalo Bill's
type of team. But you've tried it to the eletofol
because they made the most of it. A balance attack.
How about this thirty passing attempts, thirty two rushing attempts
(15:13):
and b John Robinson just ran while on that bulk
Buffalo Bills.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Cover two defense.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
The second leg of the Monday night doubleheader, the Bears
going into Washington and taking down the Commanders.
Speaker 5 (15:25):
Wayne is falling, Wind is falling. Football for town. The
Kickers up my fingers.
Speaker 7 (15:30):
Way through the uprights, through the lane and shoot good
redeption in Washinggon Cook Bears.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
A what it?
Speaker 2 (15:40):
Kevin Harlan can paint a picture, man, That's his call.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Courtesy of Westwood One and the Bears two weeks in
a row with wins twenty five to twenty four.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
Rain is falling, Wind is falling, and the Ben Johnson
led Chicago Bears are putting victories together. Just think at
the beginning of the year, people looking at Big Johnson
and Caleb Williams saying, well, this is not going to
be a perfect marriage. But they found ways to kind
of string a couple of wins together. But you also
do it on Monday Night, and you do it against
(16:11):
Jane Daniels and the Commanders, a team who I think
they're still a playoff bounteam.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yeah, I think so too.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
And to wrap it all up, I don't know if
you've heard this yet, of course, the Broncos beat the
Jets thirteen eleven. We'll go to break with this before
we bring on Nicky Edwards to talk some buffs. I'm
Grant Smith on Broncos Country Night, filling in for Benjamin
all Right alongside Nick Ferguson. This is the London, the
British call from Westwood One's Oliver Wilson of the Broncos
(16:38):
big play the sack to lock down the win against
the New York Jecks.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
Fulton said, with the bull of the right, I smous
Fields takes this.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Happen to go Prisha tubing a pad.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
They're gonna get a hot.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
One in this.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Fields tries to screw out a white, but Jonathan True
for the first one, then to bring it down in
the backfield much more for Crantonon Chose, I think it
was arriving because the cavalry came to me Fields and
then we'll surely do it now for New York of
any sort of victory. And oh and six is calling
for the checks and they just continue to have their wings.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Clipped by this Denver Broncos defense.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
I'm your guest host, Grant Smith, filling in for Benjamin Albright.
That's me Joy, Vampire Joy Vampire, the new nickname for
ben We're retiring the wet blanket. Maybe I might have
to bring it out from time to time, still alongside
my guy Nick Ferguson. Thanks again to Steve Atwater the
Hall of Famer for joining us in the first hour.
You missed any of that, you can find it at
Kowacolorado dot com or on the free and redesigned iHeartRadio
(17:34):
app where we can now set Kowa as a preset,
just like you do in your car. You can also
set those individual shows and my podcast taking it for
granted the podcast as a preset. Go and enjoy the archives,
as Benjamin Albright puts it, one hundred and eighty episodes
up there for you, including one with my guy Nick Ferguson. Nick,
we got a text on the text line a new
(17:57):
nickname for the Broncos defense Orange Fury.
Speaker 6 (18:02):
Orange Fury. Hmm, I don't know about it. Let me
let me think about it. It sounds like a nice
fruity drink, right that on the back half of the drink.
That's when it starts to settle win right starts off fruity.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
You're like, hey, what is this? And then about the
end of the night. You already know what it is.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
You're getting a fury, Yes, you're getting.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
We're gonna switch gears a little bit and head out
to our KOA Common Spirit Health hotline and bring on.
Nicki Edwards from Yahoo Sports talk about the Big Buffs
win over number twenty two Iowa State.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Nikki, how are you doing tonight?
Speaker 5 (18:41):
Good?
Speaker 8 (18:42):
How are you guys?
Speaker 1 (18:43):
We are doing good and not as good as coach
Brian and his team and Boulder. Maybe better than that
kid that rushed the field and got stuck underneath the goalpost.
Speaker 9 (18:51):
Though.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
What were your thoughts on the Buffs win over Iowa State?
Speaker 9 (18:56):
Oh Man, I think before bye week you need to
have a win like this going into it.
Speaker 10 (19:03):
I feel like we were all suspecting that Colorado.
Speaker 8 (19:05):
Wasn't gonna win.
Speaker 9 (19:06):
They came up short against CCU, they came up short
against BYU, They weren't able to finish games. And I
always say one of the best teams in the Big
twelve A ranked team, Colorado hasn't had a ranked win
and the coach Prime Aira since twenty twenty three, and
they really needed this. So Colorado is running on a
high right now. And this is exactly what they needed.
(19:27):
I mean, all the narratives would be coming in, all
the doubt would be flooding in this by week trying
to fix the program. Who should they fire X, Y,
and Z, but not to come to any explicit conclusions.
But Colorado really needed.
Speaker 10 (19:42):
This win and they couldn't have done it in a
better job against I always.
Speaker 9 (19:46):
Say, one of the best teams in the Big twelve
and rushing passing.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
This is exactly what Colorado.
Speaker 10 (19:51):
Needed to move forward in this conference and.
Speaker 9 (19:55):
Maintain some notoriety and just be confident in what they're
doing and how they're running their offense, how they're running
their defense. They are really banged up right now, and
they couldn't have done it in a better way.
Speaker 10 (20:08):
And you know, before the end.
Speaker 9 (20:10):
Of the announcer was like, don't rush the field, Please,
don't rush the field. But of course Colorado fans only
have so many opportunities to rush the field.
Speaker 8 (20:19):
So they took it. And it was an opportunity well.
Speaker 10 (20:23):
Served because this was exactly what Colorado needed.
Speaker 9 (20:27):
And against the ranked opponent, which they haven't experienced in
a very long time.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
Well, Nikki, how do you feel about that?
Speaker 6 (20:33):
Because listening to different people after the fans rush the field.
It's kind of an idea that, well, you only do
that maybe in a bowl game, and it gets someone
who is a higher ranked opponent.
Speaker 5 (20:47):
But how do you view that? Obviously the bus.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
Really needed this game in Iowa State and ranked number
twenty two? Was that a bad idea from an optic standpoint,
fans rushing the field?
Speaker 10 (21:02):
I feel like we're looking in if it were the SEC,
if I were some.
Speaker 9 (21:08):
Big ten games, some you know, this isn't that top tier.
Maybe a number six versus the number ten, There wasn't
maybe that kind of standard towards it. But what Colorado
fans have dealt with in the past years, it's like, well,
might as well rush the field. And Coach Prime said
(21:30):
after the game he didn't know that it was a
fifty thousand dollars fine to rush the field.
Speaker 10 (21:35):
And it seems like that's just a you know, a
casual chip on their shoulder.
Speaker 9 (21:39):
They can put fifty thousand towards this game, towards fans
rushing the field, And you.
Speaker 8 (21:45):
Know, I would always advocate.
Speaker 10 (21:47):
For fans rushing the field.
Speaker 9 (21:49):
As a former Buff myself, I went through the twenty eighteen,
twenty twenty two years and there was only one time
I rushed the field and it was against Oregon State
and was one of the best memories I had.
Speaker 8 (22:01):
So fans are experiencing that, and.
Speaker 10 (22:04):
I feel like they should be able to enjoy.
Speaker 9 (22:07):
That opportunity because I don't know, maybe moving forward, now
that Colorado has won this game, there might be another chance.
Speaker 10 (22:15):
In them rushing the field, but there isn't a chance
where they can be a ranked team.
Speaker 8 (22:20):
At Fulson Field. So hey, fans rush the field.
Speaker 9 (22:23):
I mean, it's not coming.
Speaker 10 (22:25):
Out of my po not coming out of my pocket,
but it is coming out.
Speaker 9 (22:28):
Of Colorado's And Coach Prime was he loved the fans
rushing the field, and I agree with him because there's
only so many chances where you can really enjoy a
ranked win, especially when you're beating especially when you're the
Colorado Buffalo is beating a ranked team.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Yeah, and you got to be glad that the fans
are still behind you after a little bit of a
rough start this season. So I love that Coach Prime
was all for it and someone who led to the
fans being able to rush the field. Kayden Salter had
a great game teena twenty five passing two hundred and
fifty five yards and two touchdowns plus nine carries for
fifty seven yards.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Is this his job now? I mean, are we done
with the quarterback controversy? It's his team. It's his team
now right after this performance, I.
Speaker 9 (23:14):
Mean it should be.
Speaker 8 (23:16):
It was. You saw the Delaware game. It was more
of that preseason feel.
Speaker 9 (23:21):
Where you're just trying out quarterbacks against you know, a
lower level team, and then Ryan Stobs situation. You saw
them in like the two minute drills against Delaware, and
you're like, Okay, he could be a guy that carries
the Colorado Buffaloes. But what we see with Kane Salter
(23:41):
is veteran passing. Yes, he has accuracy issues. There is
questions about his decision making.
Speaker 8 (23:49):
And of course TCU.
Speaker 9 (23:51):
I feel like, yes, they won against where I always say,
but you can't forget about the issues that happen at TCU.
Speaker 8 (23:58):
You have three interceptions before for the first half.
Speaker 9 (24:02):
You can't have that many takeaways when you're running this offense.
Speaker 8 (24:05):
You have to keep your unit on the field.
Speaker 9 (24:09):
Kain Salter, he shored up a lot of those issues,
and of course I would say a beat up defense.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
They were missing their two place Kiggers in this game,
and you can.
Speaker 10 (24:21):
You said an excuse, but kN Salter did look a
lot better.
Speaker 9 (24:24):
He gave Joseph Williams a perfect ball on the end
of the the corner of the end zone and then
Amaria Miller is seventy yard touchdown pass. It's like, this
is the confidence you need to see out of your
starting quarterback.
Speaker 8 (24:38):
This is his tea and it's always was his team.
Speaker 10 (24:41):
The questions of him not being.
Speaker 9 (24:43):
The starting quarterback. Maybe there were some off the field issues, yes,
King Salter. I mean in that Delaware game, they were
trying out all their quarterbacks, and I don't think that
Kin Salter should have ever lost.
Speaker 10 (24:55):
The job in the first place.
Speaker 8 (24:56):
Yes, Ryan Stobb looked.
Speaker 9 (24:57):
Really efficient in those two minute drill and throwing the ball,
connecting with those guys. But this is against Delaware and
we saw Houston.
Speaker 8 (25:06):
Yes, the defense played a part in losing that game there.
Speaker 9 (25:10):
But this has always been Kiden Saltier's team. He's able
to run the ball, he's able to perform at least
we've seen in against this Iowa State team and clutch
moments against BYU.
Speaker 8 (25:23):
He had that pick on the final drive.
Speaker 9 (25:26):
Of the game and against TCU, just the defense, it's
it plays both roles on both units.
Speaker 10 (25:32):
But this has always been Kiden Saltizer's team, and this
is what Colorado brought him in for, is to.
Speaker 9 (25:37):
Score touchdowns, to connect with his multitude of receivers and
get the ball through the chains and be that Colorado
Buffalo that coach Prime always knew that.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
He was going to be oga.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
How does this buy week fallen where it falls kind
of somewhat set the I guess the boss up and
I'm hoping that it is an upset against Utah because
Utah is five and one. Does it really set them
up to go to Utah and play well?
Speaker 8 (26:13):
I you know, that's that's the hope.
Speaker 9 (26:15):
There's time to evaluate the tape, there's time to really
reconvene with the team.
Speaker 10 (26:21):
They are missing.
Speaker 9 (26:22):
I mean in this last game, at least the defensive front,
you're missing Samuel Okinlola, Tavon Coleman, Tuffy Thomas, Gabriel Lightfoot,
and especially at the corner position R J. Johnson and
Teon Parks. It's you're not seeing that that starting.
Speaker 10 (26:42):
Quality within the defense.
Speaker 9 (26:44):
So at least from an injury perspective, you're really.
Speaker 10 (26:47):
Hoping to get some guys back, at least Gabriel lifebook.
Speaker 8 (26:50):
If he just went he just had a surgery. But
this is when you're going into Utah. It's an away game.
Speaker 9 (26:58):
You see the multid and of course Kyle Whittingham just
one of the best coaches in the Big Twelve.
Speaker 8 (27:05):
He knows how to win.
Speaker 9 (27:07):
Last year was kind of a walk he's very injured team,
he didn't have Cameron Rising.
Speaker 10 (27:11):
But this year is the Utah that we always knew
that they could be.
Speaker 9 (27:16):
They're always so efficient and going into Utah, I hope
that Colorado can get some of that depth back. We
asked the defensive coordinator, Robert livingson and he hopes.
Speaker 10 (27:28):
To get some of these guys back, But there's no definitive.
Speaker 8 (27:30):
Answer on who they were going to play. They're going
to get some starters back.
Speaker 9 (27:34):
They were playing Ivan Yates, who is a walk on
corner against Iowa, was saying, they'rerobably.
Speaker 10 (27:40):
Get it done.
Speaker 8 (27:41):
It doesn't matter.
Speaker 9 (27:42):
That's what Robert DC Robert livings had said.
Speaker 8 (27:44):
It doesn't matter if you're a walk on or a backup.
Speaker 9 (27:48):
No one knows who you are, but they're able to perform,
and that really is a hat tip to their depths,
at least on the defensive side. I think their offense,
and I think with any game is in the trenches.
Their offensive line has been so important in moving the ball,
having a balanced offense, which Colorado hasn't had in previous years.
(28:10):
And when you look at when you look at Utah,
they are a very well rounded team. But I think
Colorado at least now has the confidence to go into
Utah and know how to maybe.
Speaker 10 (28:24):
Disguise and use guys that aren't.
Speaker 9 (28:26):
Necessarily starts, but able to produce a winning outcome. Yes,
Colorado they allowed I was stayed over four hundred yards,
but they've came through and really clutch moments. I always
stay it was two and twelve from third down and
Colorado on third down moments and in fourth down moments.
In previous gancians, TCU and BYU, you can't give up
(28:49):
the third and longs. And now we've seen through Colorado
they can actually hold down the fort and allow the
defense to shine and get the.
Speaker 8 (28:58):
Offense back onto the field.
Speaker 9 (28:59):
So I mean Utah is really you know, they've proven
themselves in the Big twelve and they're a really effective team.
This is going to be a challenge for Colorado with
the injuries that they're dealing on the defensive side, but
at least on the offensive side, we know that they
can the offensive line can move men, and they're able.
Speaker 10 (29:20):
To at least get some five yards on a first down.
Speaker 9 (29:24):
And Caden Salter, hopefully he's able to shore up those
consistency and accuracy issues and continue that for the rest
of the season.
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Well, Nikki, we appreciate your time as always, your no
walk on with us. You're a five star recruit on
full scholarship. Hopefully we'll be catching up in a couple
of weeks after another big Buffs win over Utah. We
will chat with you then.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
Appreciate the time as always.
Speaker 10 (29:49):
Yeah, thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
On, Nicki Edwards Yahoo Sports always does a great job
covering the bus for us here on BCT.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Nick what are your thoughts on what she had to say?
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Do you think the Buffs stand a chance could make
it two big wins in a row over ranked teams
and can go.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
To Utah after this by week and get a DUB.
Speaker 5 (30:08):
I don't see why not.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
I know like every game presents his own challenges and
after seeing like like Nikki said, you look at a
couple of games during the season, the TCU game. That's
a game that obviously the CU Buffs.
Speaker 5 (30:22):
Should have won.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
But mistakes and trying to get your guys to play
mistake free football it is something that's really difficult to
do on the pro level, and on the collegiate level
it is even more difficult, especially with the rosters changing
the way that they do from guys jumping.
Speaker 5 (30:41):
In the portal.
Speaker 6 (30:42):
But when you look at this team, to me, they're
still avoid devoid of talent, and they do have some
impact players, but a lot of those impact players don't
always play the way that they should.
Speaker 5 (30:53):
And that's one of the reasons coach Prime he gets
mad at his team.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
Now he as a way of displaying his frustration in
the very Christian way. And I have to say, and
that's why I preface that very Christian way. I wish
all my coaches that I've ever played for did it
that way, but.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
They didn't, not quite the Bill Parsons, you getting a lot.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
Of venom, right, and it's aimed at your direction, But
these guys have to Hopefully they took the bye week
to look at themselves and then more importantly, look at
the way that they celebrated after this win. Yeah, it's
only against a team that's ranked twenty second, but once again,
that's the team in the top twenty five. It shows
you what you can do if every single guy dedicated themselves.
(31:41):
And I know that sounds strange because you think, why
would guys not dedicate themselves that they're playing for Colorado, they're.
Speaker 5 (31:48):
Getting in io money.
Speaker 6 (31:50):
But I do know everyone becomes complacent at times, right,
and I'm hoping that this this bye week happening or
the win happening right before the we kind of somewhat
of a defibrillator for this team and let them know
if we play our game, we protect Cadence Salta. The
play calling is there, they're they're running the ball is there,
(32:11):
and more importantly, being solid on the corners. Robert Livson,
I know it drives them crazy, just like coach Prime,
and it does me. And I'm just watching the games
when I see guys not play the technique that they
were taught.
Speaker 5 (32:23):
But if they do that, they stand a chance.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
Yeah, and I think you're going to get Utah at
a good time. I mean, they got the Holy War
game against BYU this weekend. We'll see how that plays out.
But man, what a huge win for the Buffs. And
how do you feel about the field storm?
Speaker 5 (32:41):
You know, I'm okay with it.
Speaker 6 (32:43):
Well, once again, it is college and in college, the
college game is more exciting than the pro game. And
is that way because of the students. The students provide
that the level of energy. Yeah, you know, so what
it wasn't against the top five team. Let's let the
students celebrate if they haven't had a chance to do that.
Let them feel what this feels like, this energy because
(33:05):
guess what, they're gonna give it back to the team.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
Yep, I couldn't agree more.
Speaker 6 (33:08):
Man.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
When we come back, we are going to talk about
the Broncos, of course, but a great event you were
at for the Broncos today at the Boys and Girls Club.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
We're gonna do that next.
Speaker 1 (33:19):
Plus, we're gonna get your power rankings because the wet
Blanket isn't here and he hates power rankings. We're gonna
get your power rankings up against the Ringers power rankings
for the NFL after a third of the season has
been completed. That all coming up next on Broncos Country
to Night. I'm Grant Smith. Filling in for Benjamin Albright
