Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm your guest host, Grant Smith, filling in for Benjamin Albright.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
I believe it's.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Own little political toss today, filling in for Ross Kaminski
Evoy dak on Friday in his normal chair. But we've
got Zack Seekers filling in tomorrow night alongside my guy
Nick Ferguson.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Nick, How you doing today, man, I'm.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Going spectacular, Grant. This is a great time of year,
and I love this time of the year because you
know fall, the leaves are falling to the grounds.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Yes, yes, the leaves are changing. It's beautiful.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
You can only see this. When I lived in California
for five years, we didn't have the changing of the leaves.
But it's fall the weather, it's football, Hockey is back, basketball,
NBA is about to tune up next week.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
And man baseball Major League playoff Hotey October Man, I
have been I'm usually not too locked into baseball this
year because I'm I'm a big baseball fan.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
But you know, the Rockies are always out of it.
Speaker 1 (01:01):
And you know Cleveland, they tried Cincinnati, they tried my
two Ohio teams. They both made the playoffs. Pretty cool,
but I was not really thinking. I was going to
get locked into the playoffs like I have this year.
But man, the storylines. You got the big Dumper in
Seattle and they got their first home playoff win in
like twenty four years earlier. This postseason, they're about to
(01:23):
kick off or I guess, pitchoff Game three against who
are they playing?
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Blue Jays? Yeah, Jays, they got Game three coming up here.
I mean, I'm into it. Dodgers, They're still the best here.
Speaker 3 (01:37):
What's funny about this conversation? And I know people here
in Denver they don't like it, but it is what
it is. Every single postseason for the past four or
five years, we're constantly talking about one team, whether it's
the American League or the National League, and it's always
(01:58):
the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
Like, why is it that the Dodgers seem to have
baseball cornered when it comes to the playoffs? And it's
very difficult to replicate, but it is a simple formula
that they know and they know well. It starts with
their front office and looking at their farmly what they're
(02:20):
looking for, types of players, you're drafting free agents, training
for players, players wanting to play in Dodger blue, and
having you know their skipper is great. He does a
fantastic job. But for me, when you look at a
complete team, the Dodgers have successfully done that for years.
(02:42):
Like last year, as a Yankee fan, I am so
pissed off because God doing Freddie Freeman. Man, he was
going in the backside because every time he came up
to the plate, whatever they need, a triple double and
just a bunch. He was doing everything. And when you
look get pitching, and that's one of the biggest areas
(03:03):
areas that the Rockies have had issues with. When you
think about Yoshi Yamamoto right in the second game against
the Brules, I mean, unreal, dude, one hundred and eleven
pitches and I was wondering at some point are they
gonna take him out?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
They left him in in the playoffs, baby, they left
him in.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
And when I watched Dodgers, even as a Yankee fan,
I watch it with the ire of respect, right, but
also discussed as well well.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
And don't worry Broncos country. We're gonna get to the
Broncos here in just second. And plenty of the news
happening around the NFL today, but I'm glad you brought
up the Dodgers pitching because I saw this stat earlier
today from Greg Harvey on Twitter between the Numbs as
his handle and the Dodgers last two games Blake's Now
and Yoshi Yamamoto, there are two starting pitchers in those games.
(03:58):
Both went eight plus innings, pitched, allowed three or fewer hits,
allowed one or zero runs, and struck out seven plus batters.
Never and think about the long history of baseball. Never
an MLB postseason history has had a team starters done
that in back to back games.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Never all time. I mean, we're seeing history in the making.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Like October really is the best for all those reasons
you laid out and playoff baseball. You know, the season
is long, you get distracted by other things start happening
at summertime.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
But man, when the playoffs roll around, they have not
disappointed this year.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
No, no, they haven't. And when you look at the sports,
the sports tiers, and what I mean by that, you
look at the professional leagues, which ones kind of dominate
sports and sports talk.
Speaker 5 (04:48):
It's usually the NFL always, But if there is ever
one month we're Major League Baseball it dominates, it's the
month of October. In listen, if you're not a base
ball fan, I'll say, you don't even have to be
a diehard baseball fan.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
And oh you don't even have to like any of
the four teams that are playing right now.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
But the idea is that, man, it is so exciting
because we know just like the NFL, and that's why
the NFL is still king. It's that win and go
home type of mentality. But when you watch the Mariners, right,
just think about where they came from. And that's to
be a message to all those teams who are trying
to get to this point exactly to say, okay, well,
(05:30):
how do we look at other teams outside the market
and say, well, the organization the Rockies should look at
what they're doing as a blueprint. Try to duplicate it
even better. Right, if you can't get some of the
players that are on these teams, go out and get
the people who build those teams. Yes, bring those guys prospect,
(05:51):
yet go And this usually happens in the NFL more
than any other sport. When a team wins the Super Bowl,
their coaching staff rate it right, It's almost like a pillage,
a mass exodus.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
They always the hottest candidates.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yes, So the idea is like, okay, well, Rockies, if
you're listening up, listen up closely. Don't worry about pride,
all right, push pride to the side. It's about having
one of the better products that you can put together.
You made some changes in your front office. Now, let's
make some overhaul changes. Right. Let's go out and get
(06:26):
someone in the Dodgers organizations. Get someone and the Diamondbacks organizations. Hell,
go to the Seattle Mariners, right, go sit with their
scouts and see, okay, well, how was it that you
guys were able to do what you're doing now? Now,
of course you say you got you got major players
like the big dumper, and what a hell of a
(06:48):
big dumper, and he's embracing that. But go out to
these organizations, figure out what is it that they're doing
that you have not done successfully, and then try to
replicate that day. There's nothing wrong with that, because I
don't care who you are as a coach or a
player or organization.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
You're not reinventing the wheel.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
No, it's always copy captain and all the professional leagues.
I mean, you look at who's successful, you say, how
can we replicate that? And you try and put your
own little twist on it, but you're trying to shoot
for the same success that they have, so you're gonna
copy some of the things.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
That they're doing, just like in basketball, Like I wasn't
born at the time, but I've seen the highlights. Doctor
j was the guy in the seventies and the eighties,
and guess what happened. There was another guy that came
along by the name the guy by the name of
Michael Jordan.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Right, we were all like that he's one and one,
that's it until Kobe Bean Bright yep.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Right.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
So for me, it's like you have to be willing
to put everything on the table with your organization to
try to even get into the conversation of being in
the playoffs, being in the championship, because if you don't
roll the dice and take those risks, you're just gonna
be one of those teams and fan bases like if
I could have, would have, should have?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Yeah, another hundred losses, Chicago Coves.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Going now, Yeah, in that game three underway now the
Blue Jays at the Mariners, blue Jays trying to get
to get their first win of the series. We got
a big show tonight on Broncos Country Tonight, we've got
David Bruton coming up at six point thirty, Rick Lewis
and the seven o'clock hour, and Sean Keeler from the
Denver Post in the eight o'clock hour, and we're gonna
hear a little bit of your conversation with Wade Phillips
(08:27):
as well later on in the show. But we got
to get of love to this mcguy for Broncos defense
man Jonathan Cooper Defensive Player of the Week in the AFC,
first time and franchise history for the Broncos for them
to have back to back defensive Player of the weeks
with Nick Menino last week and Jonathan Cooper this week.
So I thought i'd do a little mashup with some
(08:48):
of the sacks from the win against the Jets.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
Four man rush fields in the pocket, bounces round in
trouble and Dowdy Ghost that is Jonathan Cooper with the sack,
his third and a half sack of the season, and
the Broncos defense has come up big here in London
this morning. The Jets, still looking for their initial first
down of the game loss of eight fields, looks over
(09:12):
the Bronco defense they look like they're going to pressure
here they bring five.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
He's going to be hit and pulled down and there's
that man, Nick Banto.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Banto to the rescue for the Broncos. Seventh sack of
the game for the Broncos.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
A loss of seven fields in the pocket, pressure pulls.
Speaker 7 (09:29):
Away from Cooper that will be set back at the
forty four yard line. Tivers football with one oh nine left,
Cooper and Jones the ninth sack of the game for
the Broncos. And even though he was ugly for much
of the game, the Broncos are going to get out
of London tied.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
For first place at worst in the AFC West.
Speaker 1 (09:53):
Love that last call from Dave and yeah, all thanks
to the defense.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
It felt like with that win in London.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
We mentioned that last night on Pace for eighty five
sacks this year, the record seekers pointed this out on
the rundown that the record at all time is seventy
two from the nineteen eighty five Bears. Listen to this
eye popping stat from Parker Gabriel on Twitter. He was
in on KA Sports with Ryan Edwards earlier their ninety
three sacks. This is for the Broncos ninety three sacks
(10:21):
since the start of the twenty twenty four season, is
twenty eight more than the second place team, Seattle was
sixty five. The gap between Denver and Seattle is as
big as the gap between Seattle, which is the second
highest team in sacks since that time started, and the
number thirty two team Carolina Panthers.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Like this pass rush is just unreal.
Speaker 8 (10:44):
If you removed the Broncos most productive game from this season,
which is the ninth sack game they just had against
the Jets, also tied for the second most sack heavy
game in franchise history, remove that from the equation, they
would still lead the NFL right now twenty one team sacks.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
The gap for just this season between.
Speaker 8 (11:03):
Them and second place is greater than the gap between
second place and twenty fourth place this year.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
It is crazy.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
I mean, this is all I mean, you got to
have the players too, but it feels like vance Joseph Man,
how long are we going to be able to keep
him in Denver?
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Because who wouldn't want him?
Speaker 1 (11:21):
I mean, I know and who dai Nation We would
certainly take him as our next head coach, But I mean,
how much longer are we going to get to live
in this dream world of Vance Joseph as our defensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Only time would tell my friend, and we all know
that that's one thing that we all want more of,
but we don't have enough of it. And this is
why it makes the past two years so historic, the
fact that what Vance Joseph was able to do. And
I'll go ahead and put this out ahead of my
(11:54):
interview with Waye Phillips and as we talk about and
prepare for, you know, the alumni or coming back on Sunday.
Obviously everyone knows that DT's going into the Ring of Fame.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
But think about it this way.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
When Waye Phillips was a head coach here, he was
eventually fired, only to return to win a Super Bowl
with Gary Kubiak. You know who Els was in that
same position as a head coach who was eventually fired,
and now he's back as a Demons a coordinator. Fans
freaking Joe Soup.
Speaker 1 (12:25):
So you're saying we're gonna win the Super Bowl this year,
I'm not amazing. We talked about manifestations last night with
Steve Alwater.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
I'm not saying anything, but I thought it was highly
coincidental that that is the case. And I did ask Waye.
Phillips about that, so it's going to be great to
see him of this Sunday. But Vance has done a
fantastic job, and I know when you play those highlights.
We heard the great Dave Logan say that it was ugly,
(12:53):
but the Broncos got the whim. With me being a
defensive guy, man, I was like a pig in this
because I was enjoying defense. You got Steve Wilks on
one side, you got Vance Joseph. It's just like who's
gonna get the turnover first? Obviously the Jets got the turnover,
but the Broncos did all that, all those sacks no turnovers.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
Yeah, let me take that back.
Speaker 3 (13:18):
They did have one, but they were robbed like Jesse
James by their fishues. So but Ben josenh kudos to
those guys, man. They doing to hell of a job.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
I don't think we talked about that last night. How
was How was the fumble for Troy Franklin a fumble?
But the one for Garrett Wilson was not? They looked
like almost identical place.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
You know why? And this this is really simple, but
I think this is the case. Remember what side of
the field that both of those fumbles took place. So
when you think about the side judges on either side,
because Troy's fumble was closer to the Jets sideline, if
(13:59):
I'm not mistake, Garret Wilson's fama was closer to the
Broncos sideline. So they say beauty is an eye of
the beholder. So whatever line judge was there, they missed
it because it was the same thing. It's kind of
one of those bang main things. Both guys caught the pass,
they both took two steps and then the ball was
punched out. Identical plays. If you put them up smith
(14:22):
screen side by side, you would see the same thing.
The only difference is the Broncos were not awarded with
the recoverer turnover, which would have changed a lot for
the Broncos as far as scoring because the defense, once again,
macgiber comes through. I know you're listening in your car,
Ryan Edwards, I know you're listening. So as painstaking as
(14:44):
it is for you, Macguiver continues to show up and
they did in that play. But like I said, they
got robbed.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yeah, they really did.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Five six six nine zero Common Spirit health text line.
If you want to get involved.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
Brian.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
We're not going to answer your call, but if you
want a text in what we we'll read your text
when you finally admit that Nick is right about the
mcguiver defense.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
So that's just Ryan just trying to be present opposition,
just to present opposition. He knows in his heart of
heart he just don't want to be on record actually
saying it where you're behind the boards and you record
it so that therefore you can play it back. Yeah, yes,
that's why he That's what he's trying to avoid.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
What was I playing the other day over and over again?
He couldn't stay Oh.
Speaker 3 (15:25):
Oh, Ryan's saying. I believe he was saying that I
was right or something.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yes, just every time you got the talking, I would
play that again. Thank you for that, y.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
Yes, And I love to tease Ryan, but man, he
is one of the best guys I've ever had the
pleasure of working with. So don't think I'm too serious
out there, Broncos Country. Ryan is a great guy who
just love to give him a hard time. You know,
you're close with some of us.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
And giving him a hard time is getting him to
say mcgiver on air and not just whispered it, but
say it in context and make reference to Van shows
up in this Broncos defense Soko's country. When you go
to the game on Sunday, obviously we're cheering for DT
going into the Ring of Fame celebrating Super Bowl fifty, right,
(16:10):
but also remember when you go out there and you're
saying incomplete or you cheering for Tollano, Whufunga Sack or
or Zach Allen or Nick Benito, Johnny Cooper Sack. Just
remember throwing that Macguiver in there.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Throw.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Can you imagine if we get the whole stadium chanting it?
Speaker 5 (16:28):
Yes, my guy for Mark, I'm just saying it.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
I'm just that would be a thing of beauty and
it would be a perfect way to validate those men
on what they've done thus far.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Speaking of Ryan Edwards, he just texted me the Tony
Stark eye roll.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
You can text something you wants to right because you
know we're right. I mean, let's think about it. I've
been calling for it for a while. My High Profit
jumped on it too, mile.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
By High Profits on it. Yes, that's got to be something.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
And then Grant's now on it, and right now, if
anyone out there. You don't want to call them a guyver,
choose whatever you want to call. I mean, you can
call them the dog from up squirrel if you want to.
But but just let there be some recognition of this
dawn defense.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
That's all I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
You think Jonathan Cooper and Nick Bonito are the best
pass rush tandem in the.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
NFL right now? Right now, I would say yes.
Speaker 3 (17:30):
I would say yes to absolutely, because they're always having
a meeting of the minds that meet at the quarterback and.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
That's the place you want to meet, that's right.
Speaker 3 (17:39):
And I wonder if they have for conversation before the
game or before plays, like Vands calls a play and
they and they're thinking, Okay, well who's gonna.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Get to them first? Yeah, I just got to be
Coop there. I just got to be Coop there.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
And then if you are John Franklin, Myers, DJ Jones
or Zach Allen, you're just looking at clean up because
the quarterbacks going to step up in the pocket, right
they go step up in the pocket. As soon when
they step up in the pocket, that's easy money for you.
Because I like to think all of those guys across
that d line they all have sack incentives in their contract.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Yeah, and that's funny because we've seen him multiple times
this year where it's like one of them will get
there first, but the quarterback will evade him and then
they just end up in the arms of the other guy,
and it's just like, that's just that's a free sack
right there.
Speaker 3 (18:26):
If I am any of those guys, I'm diving in
and there to touch the quarterback because guess what.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
That's a half a set exactly, that's a half set
for me, right that could be that could be anywhere
from a quarter of a million to half a million dollars.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
I'm diving in touching.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Too as well. That's gonna make me reach my incentive exactly.
Speaker 4 (18:44):
Literally.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
We're off and rolling on Broncos Country tonight. You mentioned
the alumni weekend honoring DT and others coming up against
the Giants at in power Field at Mile High on Sunday.
One of the guys that was at the Boys and
Girls Club event with you yesterday, David Bruton, and I
joined the next that's coming up on Broncos Country Night
on KAWA eight fifty am ninety four to one FM.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Alongside my guy Nick Ferguson. Zach Seeger is doing a
great job behind the glass producing the show.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
And we're gonna head out to the KWA Common Spirit
Health Hotline. Big weekend in Broncos Country coming up this weekend,
honoring the Super Bowl fifty winning team along with the
Marius Thomas and a few others. And to help us
break that down, David Bruton Junior, David, how are you tonight?
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Man? I'm doing fantastic. How about yourself?
Speaker 1 (19:35):
Oh, we are doing good. We're excited for this weekend.
I actually just learned from Nick Ferguson. I thought I
knew so much about him. I didn't know he was
a coaching intern during that Super Bowl fifty team.
Speaker 2 (19:46):
You got any dirt you can share with us on.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Nick Ferguson, Oh No, no dirt, No dirt.
Speaker 9 (19:52):
But he toad me a picture the other day. He's like,
I'll look at coaching right are Yeah, yeah, he was
part of part of it. Hopefully you got a ring
with us?
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Well, you know what, that's the interesting part.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
We were just talking about that.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
No, I did not get a ring. And this weekend,
if I see coach Koob, I'm gonna ask him that question,
Like Hey, man, do you think I could get one
of those rings? Because they definitely looked spectacular. But speaking
of this upcoming weekend, obviously it's a celebration of Super
Bowl fifty, but more importantly, it is a celebration of
Demary Thomas was going into the ring of fame. What
(20:29):
was it like for you as a teammate of his
working against him every single day?
Speaker 4 (20:35):
You know, it was great to think like his growth, right,
just saying how he battled through injuries, battle through adversity,
and highlighted the type of receiver that he ultimately became
here in the NFL. You know, a high caliber pro
Bowl wide receiver and set out Super Bowl receiving record,
was fearless, had great hands and just just a good
(20:56):
spirit overall, you know, ultimating him to be, you know,
one of the longest ten here Broncos with him and
just seems just how he progressed and became what everybody
expected him to become. You know that that all time
meeting Broncos.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
Ever, David Brutin Junior our guest on Broncos Country tonight,
and I think the coolest part about this weekend is
all the former players and coaches that are going to
be settling in on empower field at Mile High. Can
you just talk a little bit about the bond that
you guys created with that super Bowl winning team.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
I think it's I think it's kind of it's an
old added right where you know, says former Super Bowl champions,
former teammates. You know, we are bonded for life, right.
It's like you kind of not you don't miss a step,
you don't miss a beat. It's like you're picking up
exactly where you left off, you know, having having those
conversations and the camaraderie. Obviously life has changed and moved
(21:52):
on ten years later, but you know, you have these
lifelong bonds like these are the guys that you went
to battle with, You grind it out in training camp with,
you battle through injuries, you battle through adversity with losing
certain games, and how we're going to bounce back, and
it's going to be great to catch up with all
the guys and their coaches and just and just hear
(22:13):
about how life has transitioned and how they've been doing
since leaving leaving the game.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
You know what, We're going to play a little In
my interview with Wave Phillips, later on in the program.
But for you, you got a chance to sit in
the room with Wade and be around him as he
put that defense together and he made those calls on
the field. What in europeon kind of may Wade stand
out from other individuals you've been around from a coaching standpoint.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
You know, for a personal aspect, you know, Wade gave
me a chance to play defense, right, that was the
big thing for Wave. He gave me a chance to compete.
He gave me a chance to go out there on
the field and trusted me to be a lion dying
linebacker or cover the tight ends and things like that.
So he's the first defensive coordinator grout my tenure with
the Broncos who gave me an actual chance to show
(23:04):
say that I can actually play beyond special team. So
I kudos the way and much love respect. But you know,
just how he pieced that defense together and how he
knew what the guys were like and what they were
capable of. You know, we weren't the team that sat
back in zone coverage all the time. You know, he
sent the heat we would go mad Dog or Blizz
(23:25):
zero or something along those lines. Where but he knew
the personnel that he had and knew that we were capable,
So he made that defense fit to the personnel that
he had available in the personnel that was even not
the starters or whatnot. So he did a great job
piece of it together and having died, buy into his
coaching philosophy.
Speaker 1 (23:44):
Yeah, and it seems like Vance Joseph is kind of
doing the same thing with this Broncos team, figuring out
what works for them and making that work to their benefit.
What do you think is this the closest defense we've
had in Broncos Country to that Super Bowl winning team
in twenty fifteen, And do you think they're close to
that level.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Of your team?
Speaker 4 (24:03):
You know, I think I think there's a lot of
similarities right where, you know, the office is still shounk
on this footing. They catch fire here and there and
then they kind of lose their footing, but there's definitely
promise there right. The defense is doing doing a fantastic
job where you know, you have your ed rushers in
your front your front line of guys just wreaking having
on the quarterback end, the quarterback has no time to throw.
(24:25):
But what the big similarity to me is that they've
been able to win those close games, right, whether it's
the defense having to make a good big player a
couple of stops, that's the similarities to me, Like, yeah,
you have you have great corners, you have great linebackers,
you have great ends, but you know that doesn't mean
anything if you don't win those close games and the
game that gets closer and closer as the season gets on,
(24:46):
And that's that experience of winning these close games early on,
it's going to bold well for them at the end.
So I think that's that's what we did in the
Super Bowl fifty year. We won the close games early
and when they came down to the close games at
the end of the season and then the playoffs, there
was no panic. We've been there before.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
So how is it going to be for you seeing
so many of your your former teammates Some guys still
live here, but some of those guys who don't live here,
and majority of those guys are part of that no
fly zone. What is it going to be like for
for you seeing those guys? But I think more importantly
our listeners want to know what was it like to
be in that dB room with those guys?
Speaker 4 (25:24):
Yeah? Kind of the same thing what happened when we
had the no fly zone get you know, recognized last year, right,
just picking up exactly where we left off, and just
the multitude of personalities in that in that uh, in
that locker room, in that meeting room, right from t
J to d Stude, Omar Kavon, Shiloh myself, because you know,
(25:47):
there was just so many different personality types in there.
But when when the game got real, or was it
was net cutting time or whatnot, guys stepped up and
the dog came out, and like, guys were not just
talking crap on the field or whatnot, but we stood
on business. We knew what the office was going to do.
(26:08):
We can anticipate, communicated like it was so I feel
like the communication between us and within the secondary was
so organic and so natural that you know it was
it made it easy to play out there.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Yeah, and a lot of smart guys back there, including yourself.
For those that don't know, you went on after your
playing career to become a doctor. Now you're doing a
physical therapy. Nick was telling me about you working on him,
getting him right from time to time.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
What made you want to pursue that after your playing career,
that's all.
Speaker 4 (26:41):
Stuff is great. So I was a close to it
early on and knew that there was a profession that
I wanted to wanted to be here, and now life
took me a different way. But in that same breath,
I had a lot of experience on the table being
injured or being hurt and seeing the seeing and reaping
the benefits of having a good athletic trainer and good
(27:01):
physical therapist work on you so you can go out
there and do your job and understanding and you know
things can't get worse and can you still perform at
certain levels of injuries and.
Speaker 3 (27:10):
Things of that nature.
Speaker 4 (27:12):
So I had a lot of a lot of positive
influences throughout my playing career at Notre Dame and with
the Broncos. That kind of solidified that that was the
next step I was going to take after I hung
up the leaves.
Speaker 3 (27:25):
Well, I tell you what, Dave Man is always a
pleasure to have you on the show. I look forward
to everything that's going to take place to kind of
validate you and your teammates and more importantly Jamara Thomas
on Sunday and hey Man, just so you know, as
my physical therapist, Man I'm juggling here in this seat.
I'm standing up, sitting down because this id nervous.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
But well then you know the door. You have my number,
come on and we'll get it right and we'll get
on a consistent plan.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
There you go. Appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
I appreciate the time tonight, David. Have a great time
this weekend.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (28:01):
David Bruton Junior, our guest on Broncos Country to Night Man.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
He's such a good dude. Yeah, great, great.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Do always give him a lot of smack about his
uh fighting Irish because he's fighting Irish is they're they're
using our acc tagline because they're only in a CEC
just for football.
Speaker 1 (28:21):
Well, what's gonna how are you gonna feel when they
make the college football playoff and you're alma mater Georgia
Tech doesn't.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
I'm gonna be pissed, and I'm gonna let him. I'm
gonna let him and Ryan Harris know because we're being used.
We're just being used to just kind of get them
into the college football playoffs. Conversation and Georgia Tech is
now you know we're doing better? Yes, well, but Notre
Dame is still a ring I think maybe sixteenth or
(28:48):
something somewhere like that.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Two losses and I'm like how how And.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
People are just talking about whether they don't play football
in the a SEC.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Come come on, help us out, David Brutin, our guest
proud Notre Dame alumnus.
Speaker 3 (29:09):
No, I've heard of camp in band camp, but I've heard.
Speaker 2 (29:15):
Those stories that come out of band camp.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
But you know what, the melody that was playing it
sounded so fall esque, if you will, Yeah, right.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
I thought it fit the season and the conversation we
were having in the break with our boss, David Tepper. Yes,
my flubs trying to toss it to traffic and doctor
Dave O'Brien.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
But we don't dwell on that. No, we don't.
Speaker 1 (29:36):
We let things go move on, Yes, Broncoast Country Tonight,
grat Smith, Zack Seegers behind the glass, Nick Ferguson and
studio with me. What do you before we move on?
I just feel like it's going to be so special
this weekend, Like I wish I could be there at
the stadium for this, Like I'm a crier, so I
(29:58):
would probably be ball on my eye out when they
were doing the DT tribute with all those guys that
played with him and knew him on the field and
off the field, like that's it's just going to be
so special.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
Well, the great thing about it, Grant, is that it
is and it will be a very emotional moment, more
so for the guys who spent time with DT they
were around him and Broncos country. Like I said before
last night, it's a family and everyone is going to
enjoy that moment. Reminisce on the Maria Thoms stories. But
(30:34):
I think the thing that's going to stand out is
that Tim Tebow passed to de Marius to put the
team in the playoffs against Pittsburgh.
Speaker 4 (30:41):
Ye.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
That is always going to be the fundest memory for
a lot of fans, and especially for those individuals who
were Broncos fans or went to their first Broncos game
and that was it they saw that play. It was
a very extraordinary play. And I remember before the Dmarrius
was drafted by the Denver Broncos. I was living in
(31:05):
California at the time and another local radio host actually
called me and wanted to talk about Demerius and you know,
might get my thoughts on him and what type of
player he was. I said that, you know, he can
be Andre Johnson, a guy who I played with who
wore number eighty type of guy. He had the same
(31:25):
body build, the same level of speed. And it was
a thing of.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Beauty to watch Demarus work.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
But even better than that, watching Demrius Thomas work with
Peyton Manning throwing him the football. That was just a
thing of beauty.
Speaker 2 (31:43):
And I have to be totally honest, man, I was
so jealous of it.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
I was so jealous of it. And you know what,
and that's not to say like I played with Rod
and him McCaffrey, but I was so jealous of it
because I wanted to be a part of that, to
be closely connected to it, to see it.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
We seem to be practice every day, yes, yes, to.
Speaker 3 (32:03):
Go up against it every day and practice. Because Brandon Marshall,
the wide receiver not the linebacker, played with play with us,
you know. And I used to tell him, I saw, look, dude,
you lucky you on our team because if I was
playing against you, oh man, we eat your lunch. But
(32:25):
that's that's just kind of the way the competitive driving
spirit that I had. But that's just the way we were. Well.
Speaker 2 (32:30):
Once again, just think about the number.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Of talented wide receivers that have come through the Broncos organization.
Not everyone is going to be in a ring of fame,
but just think about their contributions now trendon holiday. You know,
it was a guy that you know, he would drop
the ball every now and again, but I tell you whatever,
he caught it and he got out too the races.
(32:53):
He made things happen. Yes, he definitely did. But this is.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
Very spectacular.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
And this is the one thing that I tell people
who live outside of Denver who don't really know what
is like to play for a team like this in
an organization in fan base.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
You gotta come to a game, Dad, you gotta witness
it for yourself. That's special, man, that's special.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
Before we bring on reck Lewis in the next segment,
let's hear that play from DT and Tim Tebow one
more time on Broncos Country Night on KOA fifty AM,
ninety four to one FM.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
Denver's football first snap of overtime here tied at twenty
three line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
The Bronco twenty shotgun.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
For Tim Tebow sharp motion is Eddie Royal.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Tim playfakes in.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
The pocket sets throws past Pok. Javarius Thomas went over
the forty five midfield. There we go, forty thirty five foot.
Speaker 7 (33:42):
Race, twenty fifteen, ten touchdown, Denver. It's over.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
It's all for a Denver
