Speaker 1 (00:00):
A little bit of a short show. We got most
prime Time coming up at eight o'clock here on KAWA
five six six nine zeros of text line. Grand Smith
back there producing It's Polo Tie Thursday. That's right, baby.
Every time I see that, I'm just like, yeah, it
is a Poloti Thursday.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Does that get you excited? You're like, wow, then that
means tomorrow's Friday.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
It kind of does. It's kind of one of those
things where I mean, I knew what today was, but
there's a little like when I was walking over here
earlier and I was like, man, it's Wednesday, and then
I got in here, I was like, it's not Wednesday.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Looking forward to this Thursday night football matchup tonight Baltimore
Ravens taking on the Miami Dolphins, and I was gonna
kick off here about ten minutes. Get a little bit
college football action going on as Texas. San Antonio's got
an early lead on tu Lane. Tilane's head coach. There
By the way, the hot name for the LSU job
vacated when they paid fifty four million dollars to Brian
(00:55):
Kelly to not coach there anymore.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
And apparently the louise A governor says that the lsua
D will not be selecting the next head football coach.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah, he selected two coaches and giving them the worst
old time contracts in football, between Brian Kelly and Jimbo Fisher,
and I don't blame them for that, although what I
will say is that having a committee do it is
not exactly the way to go either. Committees rarely they
come to a consensus decision, which is usually the wrong one.
You just need somebody to take a leadership role and
(01:25):
be able to do that. And for Steve Woodwards, Steve
Woodards credit like he is a good fundraiser. There are
things about him that he does well. He just doesn't
pick and pay head coaches very well, or at least intelligently,
and that's been sort of his problem.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
I know you touched I didn't listen to the show
last night, but earlier this week you touched on just
how horrible of a person Brian Kelly. He is off
and I've known that since his time at Cincinnati back
in the day, but all the stories that are coming
out about him, I would be interested to see how
hot of a candidate he is anywhere else now, Like,
(02:01):
why would you want to bring all that baggage in
And if you're Brian Kelly, I mean, do you even
need to coach again with fifty four million dollars by
as well?
Speaker 1 (02:08):
That's I mean, he will coach again somewhere, won't be.
I doubt he coaches this year. I just I just
don't think that he's going to. I just don't think
he's going to coach this year. I mean, it's it's ridiculous.
She had former players of his LSU players calling him
out saying, well, he's one of the worst humans he's
ever been around.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
That one story about how he wouldn't even look at
the kid in the hallway when he like walked past
him after he got hurt.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, what was the name, dB, Matthew Langloy. Yeah, yeah,
he had to medically retire and Brian Kelly, who would
talk to him two or three times a week prior
to that, wouldn't even look at him as he passed
him in the halls anymore. I mean, and I'll say
this for Brian Kelly, at least you know what he
is all. It's all a business for him, and you
know what, you know, he's a piece of crap Like
(02:52):
you know these kids go play for him, knowing he's
a piece of crap. He was at Notre Dame working
on that LSU deal well while while I a living
room of a kid tried to recruit him to Notre Dame,
helped himself to thirds of her his mom's brisket that
she that she made because he knew the coach was
going to be there, helped himself to seconds and thirds
after he went outside, got a phone call, knew he
(03:14):
was getting the LSU job, went back inside, helped himself
to seconds, third left, and then broke the news. Fifteen
minutes later he was taking the LSU job. You think
he regrets leaving the Notre Dame job. No, I don't
think he thinks like that. I think he's just like
new job, Bob Petrino. I don't think. I don't think
they think about it like that. I don't. I don't
think they care. I think he's, you know, he's on
to the next thing, and that's it, you know, and
(03:36):
and wherever he is, that's where he is until he's,
you know, got his eye on something else. Brian Kelly
famously invited Robert Salah and Matt Lafleur who were on
his staff at Central Michigan to a holiday party at
his house, except when they got there they realized they
(03:58):
were on the guest list. They were there to be
valets and park people's cars and shovel the snow out
of the walk and driveways. And that's what they did
the entire time. They weren't allowed inside. Everybody got done
with the party, they had to go valet the cars back.
And those two made a solemn vow that whenever they
(04:18):
got to be head coaches, they would never treat people
that way. And I will tell you that anybody that's
ever worked for either one of those two will tell
them that there were some of the greatest bosses to
ever work for.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
I mean, that's the way to do it, right, See
how things are done and what you don't like, and
then change them and create a better environment for all
the people that are gonna work under you in the future.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Yeah, and I think that's I think that's something that
can apply across you know, outside of it can apply
to anything in life. Yeah. Too often I see people
I will have debates on a political issue or whatever,
and it'll be like, well, you know, I had to
pay my eye to do this, and I'm like, why
would you want something better for the next people to
come along? You know, you had to go through it,
(04:58):
so why are you wishing that on somebody else. I
had to go through it, I would you know, I
came through the Army, I don't. I had to, you know,
pull myself up by the bootstraps. If I could help
other people get advantages that are you know that I
don't want to sit there and just you know, make
it easy on everybody. There's there's something too going through
adversity in life and it forging your character. But at
(05:20):
the same time, like I don't want people to have
to go through hell. I know what it's like. The starve.
You know, there was and I think I've told this story.
I don't know if I told it on air or not,
but there was you know, when I got kicked out
of my house at seventeen, I mean, but I lived
out of a storage shed for three months. You know,
I lived at like legitimately out of a storage shed
for three months. I had a cotton there that I
(05:40):
swiped out of supply out of as four from the
from the army because I was I was a reservist.
And I had that completed. My A T had just
split up. I had that completed a T and so
I had a cotton there out of George Forman grill,
a little television I had in there, and I would
I would go to the gym to hour and you know,
(06:03):
I have a job and you know, trying to do
stuff to you know, to get myself ahead and all
that kind of thing. I mean, I know what it's
like to be broke. I don't know what it's like
to be scrapping by. I don't wish that on anybody, though.
I don't think. I think I think. I think adversity
helps build character. But I don't need people to go
through what I went through, and you know, and feel
like I need to. You know, they well they need
to do this. You know, there's a way to make
(06:24):
it easier on people. I want to make it easier
on people.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yeah, and for all the crap we like to give
you on KOA Sports and BCT for being somewhat of
the arrogant character that you play from time to time,
anyone that wants the real story and get to know
the real Ben, check out my episode of the podcast
with him taking it for granted the podcast, and you'll
get to know Ben at a much more deeper level
(06:47):
and get to.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Understand why he is the way he is.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
I think that was really cool how much you opened
up on that episode.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Wow, it's easy to open up to you him and yeah,
I mean, you know, it's if you want to find
out those that on a person the level they taking
it for Granted podcast archives are available at the Apple iTunes, Spotify,
and the free redesigned iHeartRadio app where we didn't nail
it because Grant is in there talking to Miranda. How
dare you? I got a big show to go to
go to tonight? Oh what are you going to?
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, she's making sure I get out of here on time.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Oh I'm gonna make sure he gets out of here.
I got this. I'm gonna make sure he gets out
of here on time. Yeah that's right. Uh huh, you
focus on you bring the heat on Sunday. We'll be
down there at the Burndown. Okay, you said she's bringing
the heat, all right, bring the heat. Just an art
of tequila. Well I can't have any of that. But yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
There's the last chance to enter to win a trip
to Vegas.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
That's saying it is the last chance. So if you
guys want to enter to win the trip to Las
Vegas to watch the Broncos beat the Raiders, you need
to be down at the Burndown eleven am on Sunday,
Broncos taking on the Houston Texans. And I will tell
you it's great food down there at the Burndown as well.
Five six, six nine zeroes the text line. Several people
texting in with stories about Brian Kelly. Four Ato's got
a couple here. Just how about the time he forced
(07:59):
a student to film a practice in dangerous wins, sent
him up and toppled in the wind and died, or
the covered up the rape and suicide of a student
from one of his players. Both those happened to Notre Dame. Yeah,
there's a lot of that. I mean, you can get
out there and you know, you can get out there
and start looking up some of this stuff on Brian kill.
He is an absolute piece of crap, Like he is
(08:21):
just a scummy human being. Stacey Rebuchel says, Hey, guys,
I feel like our offense practice against one of the
best defense in the league every week. I think we
could put up enough points on the board to beat
the Texans. Well, Stacy, was great to see you this
past weekend, first of all, and you know, it's good
good to find to meet you. Second of all, you know,
I hope so, I hope. So. I've just got a
(08:42):
little trepidation on this and this is probably the last
hurdle for me to start bow leaving, you know what
I mean.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, I'm a little nervous about this game too, But
I just am so confident in our defense right now
after that performance against the Cowboys prolific offense.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
That I think even tam even without Certan.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
We got a text earlier during KOA Sports that said,
I think the Broncos may force more turnovers without certain
because they'll throw at because they'll throw at everyone. And
I think there may be some truth to that. If
we can get home in the pass rush, I really like.
I think it's going to be a little bit of
a lower scoring game. I'm thinking maybe twenty seventeen Broncos.
(09:21):
But I like our chances to still win this game.
But I am nervous because that that Texans defense man.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Their pass rush, they're fast, is undernied.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
That's that's the thing flows on on receivers, like.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
You think you got a guy wide open and they
close so fast. So I am. I am a little
nervous about Sunday. That's what it is like. You know,
I hear where you know, Rick and Ryan we're talking
about the opponents they faced and stuff like that have
been all that great and some of them have some
of them have, uh, and they've gotten it. There's been
you know, the numbers whatever, Right, So okay, the numbers
are what they are. But we go put the tape
on and I'm telling you, they are fast. They are
(09:53):
a fast defense. Is the fastest defense will have seen
to date. And uh, and that's it. Just it just
worried me a little because not everybody. I mean, we
were over confident as a fan base. I don't know
if the team is, but as a fan base, we're
over confident from beating up on the worst defense I
think I've ever seen in my life in Dallas, Like
that was I would I would fire my defensive coordinator
(10:16):
after the game, Like, Bro, you said that you could,
you could make this thing work. These dudes didn't even
know where to go. You had guys in the middle
of play. He's throwing their hands up, not knowing where
they were supposed to be. You're midway through the season,
how do you not know where you're supposed to be.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Yeah, that's a bad look for the Cowboys. And Brian
Schottenheimer came out today and said, you can take all
those offensive stats and shove them up your butt.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
I'll say, just clean it up a little bit.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
But he wants to win, like he doesn't care about
the offensive stats.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
Yeah, and I get that.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
But the other thing that makes me a little nervous
about this Texans matchup is that I think bo is
a very level headed guy for his young age, but
he likes to take chances. And well, if you take
chances against this Texas defense, I think they're gonna make
if I don't think they're going to make you pay.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Yeah, we saw it. I mean Dallas got that interception
to start the game, Like I know, like when that happened,
I was like, oh no, my worst fears. Of course,
that was all Broncos. After that, it was off to
the races. But you know when that interception and it
was it was a brutally bad interception, like what were
you doing? Like where were you throwing that? Who was
that too, somebody was not on the right page. I
(11:23):
don't know. I just I have a little bit of Uh.
I've got a little nervousness about about this weekend. I
know everybody's riding high off at Dallas win and and
and what a win. But I'm this is a different
animal and I'm a little I'm a little nervous.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
But like you said, if they go out and put
up twenty eight thirty points against this Texans defense.
Speaker 1 (11:41):
There's no more there is no more wet blank questions.
There's no more wet blank q you can't be well
even nationally. I mean, I'm using myself as a punching bag,
but that's what I mean. Right nationally, you got that
they're a contender. Ye period.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
You still see the power rankings and they're below most
of the other top teams in the NFL. There seemed
to be viewed as like that next tier of teams
that can be contenders, and if they put up a
good offensive performance, I think they're you know, top five
in all those power rankings the next week.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, because it's and it's fun and the truth is
going to be somewhere in between. But you look at this,
you ask most fans. They're tell all, we're gonna win
thirteen games this year, fourteen games, you know, And I'm like,
I don't. I don't know about that. And then you
look on the other side of this, and I'm like, man,
outside of the Raiders, you know, the rest of these
teams are games you could lose every one of them,
you know, yeah, twice against Kansas City. You've got the Chargers,
(12:33):
You've got the Texans, you got the Commanders, and you know,
in prime time even the Jags are to slouch, you know,
as far as this goes. Now, do I think that
they only get two wins the remainder of the season. No,
But they're you know, outside of those Raiders games, which
I view as gimme games, the rest of those games
are going to be competitive in one way or another,
or have the potential to be competitive in one way
(12:53):
or the other. Now, we don't know what the health
of certain teams is going to be as we get
closer and we get down to it.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
Yeah, but I mean you talk about that that Commander's
matchup they've lost some games with. With Jayden Daniels out,
they're going to be hungry and they're going to be
fighting for a playoff spot and they're getting these guys
back in same way with the Jags. I mean, they
they came out hot, but they've been struggling as of late,
so we'll see how they fit into the playoff picture.
I mean there's you're right, there's really no gimme games.
(13:20):
And even the Raiders, like we've struggled against them in
the past couple of years.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Yeah, I think that. I mean, they're they're extra bad
this year. Yeah, we had a text on that. Three
three says, I know it's completely all subject. Congratulations, you
Broncos are doing good. Lifelong Raiders fan here, is there
any hope or it's the April the only thing we
have to look forward to. I thought Pete Carroll and
Ship would make a difference, but I don't know. Maybe
it's the ownership. Let me know what you think. Well,
(13:45):
this year it's accommodation of things. Chips. Offense has has
been very predictable, and I think a large portion of
that is the wheels kind of fell off with Gino sadly,
you know, uh comeback story for him late in his career,
but the wheels just finally fell off. That thing they've
got to get the quarterback right for the Raiders. That's
(14:07):
where it all it all starts. I mean, that roster
was devoid of talent to begin with. You got Max Crosby,
who's all world. You got a couple of pieces on
that defense, but you're still five starters away on defense.
And then on the offensive side of the ball, you've
got to get the line right, You've got to find
the quarterback. So I mean it's Pete Carroll's a good coach.
(14:30):
I just like, this isn't the year you're kind of
hoping if you're a Raiders fan. If you're Bronx fan,
you're not hoping this. But if you're a Raiders fan,
you're hoping that they can get enough. Now they've seen
enough of this roster, they can turn this thing over
with Tom Brady, you know, eyeball and a lot of
this stuff, and they can go from there next year.
I yeah, if you're a Raiders fan this year, you're
(14:51):
looking for Aprol. There's nothing this year, Like, there's just
not I mean, sorry, the Janty thing. I hope they
don't run him into the ground. Yeah, me too, that's
you know, because what an exciting player. But you know, overall,
if you're if you're a Raiders fans, this season is
just gonna be tough. You're just gonna have to bite
the bullet on this one. And I know as a
Raiders fan you've probably been doing that for a while.
(15:11):
But you know then we don't care in Broncos country.
He Carroll's got a pedigree. You know, he's got a
pedigree that some of these other guys didn't. You know,
certainly the Josh McDaniels didn't. You're there, Look he's looking
at head coaching jobs again. Why doesn't he know? He's
just not. He ran the Broncos into the ground. You
quit on the Colts, you ran the Raiders into the ground,
(15:34):
and now you want another head coaching job. He is
the all time, Like you're a good OC and that
is your home.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Yeah, and stay in that situation you're in right now,
Like why that's yeah, that makes no sense to me.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
Yeah seven too. Oh when we beat the Texans on Sunday,
I'm gonna park a Maytag repairman outside your door so
your blanket has never wet again. It's some profit. I
love that profit.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
By the way, Well, never mind, I won't say it
on there Okay, we congratulations Prophet three h three.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Real question here? Do you start c J. Stroud or
pick up Rock party if hurts but he's out, man,
that's tough. That's a tough call. Who are the options?
C J. Stroud or Brock Purty. Well, the Niners playing
this week, I don't know, have to look. This will
be his first game back. Yeah, I mean Stroud against
the Broncos defense is tough. Although I feel like he'll
(16:29):
probably get a pair of touchdowns. They play at the Giants,
so I might go. I might go a Brock party
if you're sure he's playing. If you're a hundred he's playing,
I think you go with Brock Party. Then Giants defense
not exactly world beaters as we saw.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Did you see the Broncos color guy Carl Banks, who
was a great player Giants? Yes, Lewis, did I say
Bronx Yeah, I was like, yes, I.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Saw Rick Lewis earlier when he was here. I did
see Rick called dexter Lawrence Well basically said people don't
respect him the way they used to do. Yeah, Carl
Banks that I uh, he's followed me on Twitter for
a number of years. You know, Carl for a While
Carl speaks his mind, not everybody necessarily agrees him. I'll say,
I'll say this, Dexter Lawrence the hell of a football player.
But I know what Carl Banks is trying to do.
(17:19):
He's try to motivate and be the monster that he
can be, and he has not been that guy this year.
But we saw Dexter Lawrence here. Dexter Lawrence was okay,
but he wasn't you know. It was the reputation of
Dexter Lawrence outpaced the play of Dexter Lawrence in that game.
He had what two plays I think he affected in
that game For Dexter Lawrence. You gotta you gotta do
(17:42):
more than that, you know, you got to be the
mountain in the middle. So those three, those three pass
rushers they've gotten Thibodeau and Burns and abdel Carter can
can be the best they can be. That's one of
the things that I think you gotta keep your eye on, Brian,
and I see you on the textatics haven't responded back.
What else we got yourself to spot on with lack
(18:04):
of talent on Raiders. As much as I wanted Broncos
to get Jany, I laugh when the Raiders drafted him.
On top of itting Gino, It's easy to see that
they would suck. No line, no quarterback, no talent outside
of Jant, Crosby, Bowers and Myers. Sorry, Pete and Chip,
it will take the rest of your life to rebuild
that mess. I don't think so. I mean, Peter have
had defense Umman by by year two. You know, by
the end of year two that defense be humming. Question
(18:25):
is whether or not they can get that offense going
powers being out Gino kind of you know, the wheels
coming off. It'll be it'll be interesting to see. Appreciate
you guys being along for the ride. Broncos country the
nineties back after this tex lines popping Right now, I
am a little bit of breaking news. Looks like LSU if
we just got done talking about Scott Woodbard gonna be
part and ways with athletic director. Scott Wilbert. The governor
(18:50):
down there in Louisiana is way too involved in this.
He had some comments on UH on the situation as well.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
I can tell you right now Skuboard is not selecting
the next coach. Hell, I'll let Donald Trump select it
before I let him do it. I don't know, but
the border super Eyer is gonna come and put a
committee and they're gonna go find us a coach. Hell,
hold on one real quick thing on that, because here's
what y'all reporters need to do. Y'all need to start
looking and who represents all these people like these agents.
(19:23):
You know, it's interesting if I'm not mistaken, what is
agent Kelly's agent, the Texas A They all the same agent.
Like you realize if I would be, I don't know
how how many sports riders we got here today, just
you we should have a bunch Okay, Like this is ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (19:42):
Lawyers would be this board for.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
The way these agents act and the way they're able
to represent. In fact, they may this is so doubt
they may even represent some of the players. Now, Like
it's really time for the NCAA to put on some
guardrails in college sports.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Because it is fine, We don't you need to go
on reals.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Big billionaires want to spend all that kind of money,
no problem. But if I got to go find fifty
three million dollars from Kim, it's not going to be
a pleasant conversation.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
I'm just telling you, And yes, you could definitely tell
the governors very obviously from Louisiana with that accent. No,
not like the Brian Kelly fake Southern drawl he tried
to pull out when he got hired. The memes were great,
they were great. They were like the ones where they
somebody had a picture and they said, it's Brian Kelly
(20:30):
going to interview at an HBCU. It is a picture
of Robert Downey Junior from Tropic Thunder.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
I saw one where it was Brian Kelly going an
interview for the job at U c l A.
Speaker 1 (20:39):
And it was that surfer dude interview. Oh yeah, I
wrote a couple of months ago. Yeah, phenomenal, phenomenal stuff. Yeah. Anyway,
it's got what Yeah, but the the the governor there's
way too involved. How's he that I'm gonna let How
are you the one who's deciding who's to pick what? Well,
(21:01):
it is a state employee, but there's the governor does
not control it. That's not a you know, even at
the granular level, like that governor way way too involved.
And I'll tell you, I don't care how popular you
are as a popul politician, Well you get the wrong
(21:22):
coach in there. At the flagship university in the state.
They will run you out on a rail. I know.
I think he's doing something that he may not want
to do and be like he's gonna wind up doing
this promising big and not you know, and then wind
up not getting the right guy.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
They lose some games and everyone will blame him for it.
He also talked about I think this might have been
on Pat McFee show earlier today, but he was talking
about how he wants to do an incentive based contract
with the next college coach.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
Yeah, nobody's gonna sign that. No one's gonna sign that.
Why would you. All these contracts have incentives in there
to win football games and win play off games and
all that kind of stuff, But there's a base salary.
It's not nobody's gonna do. Bet there's some reason, Like
most players won't do incentive latent contracts unless you got
unless you're stuck having to do like a one year
deal where you're betting on yourself. Although I will say
(22:14):
Nick Bonito did and he's about to.
Speaker 2 (22:18):
But man, that shit, that Nick Bonito contract just keeps
looking better and better for that Eaton Hutchinson deal.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yeah, but it's I mean, we always knew what it
was gonna be like it was, and people were trying
to argue with no, o, I'll break up the number. One. No,
it's thirty million. It's gonna be thirty eight p y
because he's going to hit the incentives. You look at me.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
John Prson's at forty six. Yeah, Aiden Hutchinson and what
forty one and the most guaranteed money out of any
non quarterback contract. Right.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
No, it's it's a great team friendly deal. I just
didn't like the way people were like, yeah, it's going
to be twenty four million for Bonito and then they're like, okay,
man at twenty six five. I'm no, the bottom number
came into twenty sixty five. He's gonna hit the incentives.
It was just perfect timing to get the deal done. Yeah,
and then le Broncos and they couldn't wait to get
it done, right. You know. I tried to hey you guys,
but you know in his camp wanted to wait out
(23:02):
Parsons and Henderson, thinking that would move up the average
of the top five. Well, when Henderson didn't sign a
long term deal, Parsons didn't move it as high as
they wanted. And then he wound up signing for what's
gonna end up being thirty million per year. But what
a team friendly deal when you look at what Parsons
signed for, what Garrett signed for, what Hutchinson has signed for.
(23:24):
Philadelphia Eagles, by the way, offered the Cleveland Browns three
first rounders for Miles Garrett last year. Yeah they brown
should have said, yes, they did not. Well, Brown's like,
we don't want three thirty two overall picks, and I'm like, dude,
three thirty two overall picks is going to net you
some impact players on a roster to eat some impact players, right, And.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
Now Miles Garrett's already complaining. I'll say nicely, well, he
doesn't get the complaint.
Speaker 1 (23:51):
He signed that deal, he knew what that was. He
took the money, he knew exactly what that was. Miles
Garrett doesn't get to complain about his situation. They drafted
the guy he wanted. In the problem it's the offensive
side of the ball. They can't get the quarterback position right.
They paid all that money, all their draft picks and
(24:11):
gave all that stuff up for Deshaun Watson. They never
should have done. And that's a problem. In Cleveland. They
can't get the offensive side of.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
The ball right, how long until that Deshaun Watson deal
is off the books.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
They'll punt on him after this season's he just had
to stick around to they to draw paychecks because they
just couldn't cut him and have all the acceleration of
the dead cap. So but after this year, there'll be
no dead cap. No, there'll still be dead cap because
it's guaranteed money all the way through the deal. It's
just economically feasible. Like the way they've been doing things
(24:43):
is trying to as they get closer to the year
than they try to shuffle money into this year and
free up money for the coming year so they can
absorb the dead cap. And it's not that big a
deal because they moved all the guaranteed money into this year,
but they keep themselves a cushion so they see what
they need and then it makes them flexible. The Browns
are playing Kapinomics really well. They're just not fielding a
(25:03):
quality product, at least on the offensive side. Dylan Gabralaney,
We've seen enough of this at this point, Like he's
not it. We know he's not it. Yeah, and I'm
not saying you have to go to Shador. Hell, you
go to Deshaun Watson if you want to. But Dylan
gabrielaney it well, I mean, why even go back to
Deshaun Watson? Why not? Good?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Why not see if you have Shador and then when
you suck the rest of the year, if he doesn't
pan out, you get a top draft pick.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Oh, it's a it's a win win situation too, right.
If your door takes off, you got your quarterback, and
if he sucks, you're getting a better draft pick.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
And you don't have to listen to half the fan
base saying put Shador.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
In any hour. Now you don't. Now you don't have to.
You know. That was the mistake the New York Jets
made when they acquired Tim Tebow. The front office did it,
The coach had no intention to play in him. I'm like, Bro,
you should have just put him out there a couple
of times in some blowouts and you would have seen it,
and that would have shut everybody up. But no, pride's
(26:04):
a funny thing when it comes to that kind of stuff.
Five six six nine zero is the text line. Ryan says, Ben,
what's wrong at Colorado? The Flagship University's eleven and seventeen
against Power four opponents. Well, Brian, I'll say this. I
know you, I know you don't like Prime. I'm not
the biggest fan, but is what it is. The Buffalos
were terrible, I mean brutally bad before he got there.
They're painfully average. Now that isn't improving. And as long
(26:26):
as the university is continuing to make money, he's about
as safe as it gets. Now. If the fans quit
showing up there, you know, there's an apathy that sets in.
You continue to lose games, then that that calculus changes.
But for right now, he's as safe as safe gets.
I'll talk to people up there. You know, Pat Shermer
might be on shaky ground. Rob Livings did that kind
of stuff, But Prime, I mean the amount of money
(26:47):
that they're making and all that kind of stuff. Right
now he is as safe at he wants to be.
I thought.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Sean Keeler put it perfect on Tuesday when he said
the only people that are gonna determine when Coach Prime
leaves Colorado are Coach Prime and his doctor.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Yeah, because he's he's made them relevant again, yep. And
that that's the thing at the end of the day,
whatever else you think they're making money. There they are
on the lips of everybody every week in college football.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
They're on TV's that's the point of asking. He could
even find a CEU game on TV before he got.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
There, right, And they've gone from one, you know, zero,
one and two win teams to six, seven, eight win teams.
That is that's marked improvement. That's that's a start. Now,
the question is whether or not he can do any
better than that. No Travis Hunter anymore. The question is
whether or not he can do any better than that,
And that's a question he's going to have to answer.
(27:41):
Juju is supposed to be the answer to that. He's
early on in his career. We don't know yet. If
it's me, I probably, uh, you would probably one more
game of Caden Salter. If it's me, I wouldn't even
give him one more game. And then we turned it
over to you know, we turn it over to Juju.
Appreciate your service. Thanks for coming. The Arizona they Colorado
this week. I remember, sure can't if they're home or away,
(28:04):
because I would start him at home. You go start
the young guy. You fell a fair point. You start
the young fell at home, so af fair at home
and if not, then you waited out till their home
again they're home. Okay, well there you.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Go against Arizona four and three team, you're three and five.
You go to three and six and you're not you
know what I mean, like you win. This one's be realistic.
The Big twelve is a pretty damn good conference this year.
You've got Arizona State, you got BYU, you got Utah,
you got Cincinnati. Yeah, it's the Brank number. So they're
not gonna they're.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Not gonna win like that, but you could, you know,
you could theoretically get back get Bowl eligible this year.
I think when you're eliminated from Bowl eligibility, that's that's
when you that's when you put the kid in and
go from there. People are laughing about the Marcedes Lewis
signing with his age. Marceides Lewis was teammates with Kyle
(28:55):
Brady in his rookie year. Kyle Brady was born in
nineteen seventy two. Mercedes Lewis will have teammates this year.
They were born in two thousand and three. I was
say twenty one years that's thirty. Sorry, thirty year age
(29:16):
cap say, it's just funny. Bogex was six years old
with Mercedes Lewis rookie year was happened in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
I know he had a comment where he said, like, yeah,
I remember watching him as a kid, and he wasn't
like he was a ag or he was a kid.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
He was an actual child. Merseides Lewis, that's too funny.
I was trying to think. I was trying to look
and see, but I don't believe he did because Patrick
Nicks didn't coach the Cleeves delivery long. I was trying
to see if he coached against maybe Marcedes Lewis or anything,
but I don't believe he did. Five six, six nine
(29:53):
zero is the text line seven tower, Oh sign that
LSU contract. Ben A million A win for your incentive.
If a competent staff might get you to four or
five wins early retirement, maybe even six wins. I mean,
if they want to hire me for a million bucks
to win, I'll put together staff will win some games.
With the talent they have at LSU, be hard for
us to lose.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Well, what if they made it like the biggest contract
in history. If you want a lot like it was
five million dollars per win. Dude, you could put me
up for AE hundred thousand a win. No, I'm saying
for real coach. Yeah, well, I mean, you know, thanks,
It's a lot different in college.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
The head coach in college is that it is just
a different animal, especially in the SEC. You're you're more
of a recruiter than you are anything else you're your
coordinators are doing. Now, there are guys that are involved
in their side of the ball, you know, Nick Saban
and Brian Kelly, all that kind of stuff. But a
lot of the head coaching jobs we've seen it before too,
guys like Prime or guys like Herm Edwards or Sam
Pittman who got fired in Arkansas. Like you're you're talking
(30:51):
about guys that are more figurehead recruiter type. Head coaches
CEOs that are delegating to their coordinators to run each
union of the ball.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Keep the boost happy, ye be a good face of
the program, right.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
I could do that.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Well, I don't know, like keeping the boosters happy or
face to the program, face of the program anyway, good?
Speaker 1 (31:09):
I don't know about we can we can have some
fun with that, you know, And I I mean I
got a boy might be able to put together a staff.
Who's your O. C. Tim Jenkins? I mean I talked
to I talked to Tim. It's about connections we'd be looking.
I mean I talked to Tim. I talked to Darren Chevarini,
talked to a couple of guys, uh, you know that
(31:30):
have worked out side of the ball programs before on
the defensive side. You know, I call coach PAGs and
be like, all right, you want to you want to
come be a DC at the collegiate level, come almost
do this?
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah, I have Nick as a secondary coach, and.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Get Nick on the staff somewhere. We find out, we
find him at home, we find him a home. I
need him on the sideline. I'd probably make honestly, with
Nick's energy, like he never played the position, but you
kind of want to make him like a wide receivers
coach because he's kind of like that dude.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
Just pump him up, just pumping him up, flipping gatorade table,
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
You know, Yeah, he'd be DB's coach, whatever, secondary coach,
whatever you you put it in. But yeah, you know
I call up coach. I call it coach PEGANA and say, Hey,
you want to coach at the you want to coach
at the college level. Let's go. Let's make this happen.
I got enough friends out there that are that would
that would probably be interested in that for the right
amount of money. L s U D you know, coach
(32:20):
PEGANO D C L s U. Come on, I can't
fake a Cajun accent or anything, but you all want
some gatortail. At least some gatortail. Brok Us, cut your
night beging for this.
