Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to It. Broncos Country at Tonight, Benjamin Albright.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Gret smith Man, The Myth, the Mustache, the Hall of
Famer hoff do what to Do? Steve Atwater in the
house as well, Steve Howe, as your week going so
far going pretty good?

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Went pretty good. I mean, it's not a lot going on,
but it's going well.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Which win was more satisfying the Denver Broncos beating the
Atlanta Falcons this past weekend or the Denver Broncos beating
the Atlanta Falcons, you know the one I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
You were involved in it the personally the first one.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Second, but currently this win that second was pretty pretty
sweet though. Yeah, I mean, the Falcons defense thinks, but
it was nice to see the offense just I'm gonna
do it exactly what they need to do. In those situations,
you can't I mean, you can still lose to a
bad defense, right, you can still not play a bad defense. Well,
they went out, they executed, they went out and showed things.
It's funny to me because at the start of this season,

(00:54):
well we had all these these gas bags out there,
these hot take cards. First they were telling you the
offensive line couldn't block as the reason Bo wouldn't playing
with well, yeah, then the receivers couldn't separate. That was
the reason By wasn't playing. Well, that's miraculous how that
offensive line is blocking really great now and these receivers
have can just magically get.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Open now that the game has slowed down for the
rookie quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, that's normally what happens after teams get a little
bit of time working together, especially when you have a
legitimate system. You've got players that can execute what the
coaches are teaching, and it's working out just like John
planned it.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Now.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Obviously we wish we could have gotten a chief game back,
but aside from that, man, this is really has been refreshing.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, and the road is paved for this team. I
mean the road to the playoffs and the playoffs paid.
It's kind of like, see you man, the road is paid.
You just got to go out there and execute now.
And you look at the schedule for the Broncos, the
next few weeks look pretty winnable. You know, you've got
a Raiders team it's not playing all that hot. You've
got Colts team that.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Hit or miss. You've got a Browns team that looks
like they stink.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It's it's you know, you've got a few games ahead
of you that I think are are eminently winnable before
you run into that that sort of buzz saw in
the back end where you've got the Chargers, Bengals, and Chiefs.
But you know, at that point in time, the Bengals
could be out of it. They might be packed it
in the Chiefs. They don't love resting their starters in
the last week of the season. Andy redes that every year,
So there's possibilities. I you know, look at the schedule.

(02:22):
I don't think the Bengals are actually going to be
out of it at that point. I think they'll they'll
still be in it. But the Chiefs thing does look legitimate.
It looks like that that could be a freebee on
the end. Uh here at here at home. So we'll see,
we'll see how that plays out.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
But man, you got to be excited about Broncos football
right now. Yeah, especially considering what everyone was saying prior
to the season.

Speaker 4 (02:43):
This is at max five game. You know, the game
went mail cash this weekend, went to win over the Falcons.
Everybody who bet the over on five and a hal
over cash this weekend.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
So I got extra money land. You want some dinner
I got I got graand dinner last night. You want
some dinner tonight, I'll go get some stakes. We'll make
it happened. Hey, Hey, I'm always down with that.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
I'm just saying, I mean, you got that sweet sweet
bitcoin money now, No, no, no, that's you, that's us.
Although you did find a little extra money laying around,
you know, sprinkling, sprinkling it on the time.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
I know, right, wait, what's this? Okay, we'll take that
five six six zeros text a lot. You guys got
questions for uh, for Steve?

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I you know, looking at the game this weekend, I'm
trying to, on the one hand, stay present and focused
for the team this year, because it does look like
they got a little bit of a playoff running them here.
I run to the playoffs, I should say in them here.
But I'm also trying to look at what does this
team need this offseason?

Speaker 1 (03:41):
What does this team need going for?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
What?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
What else can we add to ye? Man, it's too early.
It's too early.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Man.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
We're riding the thicke of things.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
Okay, I don't take another pass catcher? Maybe you know
the eleaite tight end type. You don't think that makes
things a little bit better. Any playmakers will make it better.
It don't matter what position, all right, as long as
your playmaker. Hey, we're looking Yeah, I mean, look, I

(04:10):
I'm as far as uh as far as that goes.
I do believe there's gonna be a few changes in
the off season, you know. But I I that's the thing.
I look around, I'm like, why are you talking about this?

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Not I'm tying that up. I'm are you to see that.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
I can't see the end here. The reason that I
bring that up is because I was looking at this game.
I'm like, man, you know, it'd be a luxury to
have X, Y and Z, but they're winning without it. Mmm,
so do they need it or is this a luxury item?

Speaker 1 (04:43):
What X Y Z.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
You're talking about another pass catcher at the tight end
and they're winning with all that?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
We we we have t we saw on what what
was it tight Endsday or tight end Tuesday or whatever
it was? Was?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
No, come on, I almost believe it. I almost believe
it's Yeah, man, all the tight endings showed up. Man,
I won't want to I want to beat fullbacks feel
left up undred.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
We don't have a national fullback day. They got to
run down there on a special team. But uh tightand
is getting a David?

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I don't.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
I don't get it. It can I be included? But
you know what, I gotta be honest. The type the
fullbacks that are still in the.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
League, they're lucky to be in the league because most
teams don't even use full backs right right. They don't
utilize them the way that they used to be utilized.
I thought they were vital part of the team. I
think they still could be utilized.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
They still can't be And you can catch fullbacks being
utilized this weekend as Army takes on Notre Dame five
pm on Saturday local time. If you have it to
be interested in watching that, go Army beat Notre Dame.
I think, uh, I think, you know, but that's the
thing I was watching this Falcusy. I'm like, man, you know,
we talked about this all the time off we could
just get this, or we could just get that.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
They're winning without it. They're winning without it.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
You got a rookie quarterback who's growing on the fly,
running on the fly, and you win them without it.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
And that to me. You know, in the first quarter
of the season, I like, Okay, this is what I expected.
This is a rookie, this is what I expected. H
And we started to see some signs of life.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
I mean, you know, they they went up against that
Tampa team was missing six defenders.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
And like, well, I'm gonna reserve a little bit.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
You know, you beat up on Carolina, everybody beats on Carolina.
Then you hit Baltimore and it was a little bit
of a road bump. Although to be honest, Bill made
some plays in that game, especially in the first half.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
And then you look at it.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Then you start looking at the Chiefs game, though, and
that's the one where I'm like, Okay, I think we
got something here. I think we might have something here
with the big doughs. Yeah, and unfazed and the Kansas
City thing. I mean, everybody, you know, it was kind
of a gut punch. But think about it this way.
It's it's the football gods even in things out for
that Jets tobacle, because it took the Jets, it took
the Jets kicker, it took all the kicks missed at

(06:43):
the End's.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Just even stuff out.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
Way, So it stings a little little less when you
look at it to that last Yeah, that's a good point.
But as you look at this thing now and we
look forward, I mean, you're going to Vegas to take
on the Raiders on Sunday. The Raiders aren't I mean
they're not horrible, but they're not good themselves.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Does they're not good like they're they're not. They're not
a good football team.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
And Antonio Pierce has already fired his offensive coordinator, Luke Gatsi.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Yeah, promoted North Turners.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Boys Scott Scottie Turners back there, you know, offensive coordinator out.
The offense look a little better in that last game
for the Raiders, but it still looks bad.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Yeah, it's just it's it's not enough, man. I mean,
I don't know what's going on.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
They got they got three players on defense and two
players on offense, and they're you know, the rest of
they still need to.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Builds like they they're they're building something out there. The
Broncos can win. They can beat the Raiders. They already
beat the Raiders this year. Did we beat what was
it like thirty four to eighteen or something. What was
the score? Yeah, did we beat up on them. Yeah, yeah,
that was that was Actually are what highest scoring game for? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:47):
We beat the breaks up, we can beat them again,
and you're gonna you're gonna, You're gonna win that game.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Then you've got a Monday night game here against The
thing is he cannot over look.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Well, they can't over but we on the mic, I'm
looking at four ks right past them. Well, I'm not
looking that far down the road. I'm looking at the
next two games though. You got to two and eight teams,
you get You're at Las Vegas, they're two and eight.
You already beat them once this year. You should have
the confidence to build going there and beat them. And
you've got a Cleveland team. They're a little bit better
with Jamis there at the quarterback for sure, but they're

(08:19):
still struggling. Uh And it's a Monday night game here
in Denver and you've handled is it?

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Is it been confirmed it's gonna be gonna stay. I
was told I don't think it's gonna move. Okay, good.
I don't think we have the official word from the
league yet, But you know, what is the what's the
deadline to ten days out? So we'll know by Wednesday,
and today is what Tuesday. We know tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
We should know tomorrow for sure, because you got to
know for scheduling purposes and all that kind of stuff,
you know, a certain number of time out.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
So but I do believe they'll keep that game there, especially,
I mean the Broncos are coming off. You know, they
can't say that the Broncos are playing well. It doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Cleveland's playing like, you know, because the Raiders aren't playing
as well as everybody as some people anticipated.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
The people anticipate the Raiders playing well, but they're playing
I didn't you expected them to have the record? Was
not expect them be last in the West two and eight?
I mean you know you didn't expect that. Yeah, okondle
of Gordon Minshew. Would you think they were gonna beat
two and eight? Who are they gonna beat? Come on, man,
they got nobody.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
They got two guys on defense, that's Crosby.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Nate Hobbs will not. I didn't not they got brock
Powers on offense. Oh no, I mean you're looking back. Yeah,
but at the beginning of the season that you said
out man, yes you have a quarterback competent going to minces.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
You after you hired the internets to rubbies, guys like,
this is not a serious franchise.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Hey man, you got a Mike Rabel is gonna be
the head coach of the of the Raiders next year.
Just watch well. I still know that on any gift
us under, anything can happen.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
It's one of their two wins against Baltimore, a team
that Pump raised us.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Hey, come on, man.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
And the craziest thing that's because it happened in the
beginning of the year where the Raiders didn't know they
were bad yet and Raven and Ravens hadn't figured it out.
But still though, I mean, but yes, it is a
crazy it can it can have, so you don't want
to overlook them as players. But with the microphone, I'm
already overlooking him. It is.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
You know, it's whatever bet the farm kids, There're gonna
be no Christmas we lose this one.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Hey man.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
Nobody can say anything I've been. I can't say anything
I've been. You can't say anything. But I can say
it though I will say it.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I'm betting the farm. It's whatever a second farm taken out.
I'm taking out a second farm mortgage. You shutting out
the BTC instead, we'll put it into BTC. Oh my goodness,
it was I mean the last couple of weeks. I mean,
I know one was a devastating loss, but the last
two weeks have been I think for Broncos fans uplifting

(10:52):
in a way.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Well, Sister got there and played the Chiefs the way
that they played them. Yeah, and the game in Kansas
City and all into and all fast, you should have won.
You know, you came away with the l, but you
should have won. And then you beat the Brakes off Atlan.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
If there's anything that's got this team clicking and clicking
at the right time, boy.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
That's exactly when you want to hit that hit that
hotspital too. I'm a hot streak.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Yeah, I'm here for this is right around the time
you want to hit the hot streak. You got two
bad teams, you got the bye week, and then you
got you know, you got a four game stretch.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
That's Indy, a very witable game. You're at the Chargers.
Is the bye week in the good space?

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Normally I would say no, but just given kind of
where this team is right now, kind of it's a
young team.

Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah, they're a young.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Team, Like this is this isn't like a this isn't
an older team where you want that, by the way
a little earlier, you know.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Yeah, but normally, I mean I kind of felt like
my whole entire career, I want it like right in
the middle.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Of the season, Yeah, because you want to give it up, right,
But this is the back This is on the third quarter. Yeah,
it's the third quarter by week at the end of
the third quarters.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
And to me, it looks like it works out because
you got a four game stretch here that you're prepping
for in Indy the Chargers since the Kansas City to
make that playoff run.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
You got an X week to study for that Indie game,
which is what.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
You need to take because those other three games are
gonna be tough.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, Chargers, like you know you you look back at
this season in Charines have been the biggest surprise.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
But I guess when you say coaching, yeah, they've already
They've had talent on that team.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
They just couldn't get all that coach in the right Yeah,
they had bad coaching in there for a while.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
And you look at the Chargers.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
It's funny because the Ravens, you know, one that was
our biggest loss, but the Chargers beat us up the
most We've been honest on that physical Yeah, it was
twenty three nothing to start the fourth quarter, and we
put two Vanity touchdowns on there to make it look
close at twenty three sixteen.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
But the reality is the Chargers kind of let off
the gas a little.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
It could have beat us worse, but they came out
and punched us in the mouth for three quarters. Baltimore,
it just over time like it was just like they
just kept putting the drives together and whatever.

Speaker 3 (12:51):
Yeah, I'm used to see how we're gonna show it.
I mean, not until we get there, but I to
see how we're gonna show it.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
But I don't think that game. Normally you'd circle that
one say, okay, winnable. I'm not circling that one at all.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
At Cincinnati, I'm not even at four and seven, I'm
not circling that. They could still be in the thick
of things if they because their schedule.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Gets real easy here they got a Pittsburgh game and
then it gets real easy.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Uh. And then but then you've got Kansas City at
the end of the season, and we know Andy Reid
loves resting starters, does it every year.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Especially with the record that they have now they only
have one loss.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
If they had nothing to play for it their one
seed or two, they'll rest their starters, man, I about
they'll rest them.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
So there's there's opportunities here to be able to stack
some wins and maybe sneak this team into the playoffs
when a lot of people didn't think that was that
was even a thing. In fact, the mathematicians out there
always posting these percentages.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Every Bronck was sixty two percent to go to the playoffs. Yeah,
it was great.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
Four this season. Was it like in the thirties or forties? Oh,
percentage for the Broncos, it's like two percent. That was
that they're saying it was like two percent to make
come playoffs or whatever.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Yeah, the Bucks the Broncos at over five and a
half wins. Hey, yeah, I remember that, but I didn't
know the the percentage.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
But the biggest that I've noticed, and I'm proud of it,
is most Broncos fans have have had a sense of
restraint in going after all the people that the were
saying they were gonna suck, you know, to start the season.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Well, I should they have restraint though, act like we've
been there, but we didn't even.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
We didn't even hear that. We believed, we didn't even
we didn't even hear that mess after you know, you're
old takes exposed. Now go get them, baby, I'm showing
up with that. You know what we should do. We
could do like a video show with that. It's like
a camcorder. You show up at people's houses with a
print out of their tweet. Yeah, I see you said
the Broncos. Steve, Well, you said the Broncos. We're only
gonna win four games this year?

Speaker 1 (14:35):
How are you, lady?

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Now?

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah, and then you're Christian. I'm gonna let you do that.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
Okay, Yeah, well I think we both know I'm not
gonna do that. But in fact, I'm gonna stand behind you.
I showed a little talk about my body's you know,
not as intimidating. So I'm gonna stand directly behind you
in these situations.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
I'm I'm ana lobby. I'll run towards them.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
When they close the eyes, you go ahead, and then
I'll go I'll go run and hit them like a
mosquito hitting a windshield. Maybe we'll get to they, We'll
get nick to we'll sub him because you know we'll
make that work. But I'm just say we're show this
we'll do. We'll start showing up at people. I'll start
tracking the staffs like that Catfished way. They showed up

(15:14):
at people's houses with the cameras and they worked the Yeah,
we're gonna show.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Up with tweets.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
There's there's this big dude on on Twitter or something
where he shows up and I think they're like they'd
be dad's or something, and he like tackles a big,
huge guy.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Paying like their child supporters. I can guess. Yeah, okay,
I need more of this.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
There was a there was a guy a couple of
years ago, one time ago when Twitter first started that
all the people that would like talk about fighting somebody
on Twitter and then he would show up at their
house and be like, you talked all this metal.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Twit, here's your tweets. Yeah let's go. You know I
got right here, Like no, man, I was on Twitter.
I was just kidding. I was playing.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Man, I'm sorry my mouth run when I was writing checks,
I can't cash.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
I'm a love but not a fighter.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
More that though you got so many people, you got
so many people out there running their mouths, you know,
on stuff that you know, you know, social media lets
people run their mouths that it would.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Never oh yeah, because when they go to their jobs,
they can't do all that stuff. They can't, you know,
so they gotta they gotta find that outlet to where
they can express themselves.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
National media latching onto Bonex all of a sudden after
the Atlanta beat down. All of a sudden, you got
it everywhere, Rookie of the week, talk, got hyperbole.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
All this kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
The seven one nine says, we didn't just believe we
bo leaved, and I, you know, it's just me. I
I find the national media to be a little bow
curious now, so we'll see how that say that works out.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
I was trying to crack ground up over they didn't work. Yeah,
Grant over there doing grand I don't even care anymore.
You just look at him, shake his head. I'm in
my own work. It doesn't matter what it says. I
can't believe he just said that he left. Hey, he
love That's that's the best part of all that.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Uh, we come back, Steven, want to do a little
preview this Raiders thing. How much did the Raiders wins
mean to you guys, And was it just because of
the Mike Shanahan thing or was there.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
A real rivalry that it took a little extra out
of it. We hit that.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
We come back Brocos Country Night, Kawa. Your travel update here,
Grant you're a you're freshly married man, let's get you
in trouble real quick. And I say freshly it's you know,
not a year right over a year?

Speaker 1 (17:08):
He over here. So when you and the missus travel.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
Does are you one suitcase guy? And she's like an
extraordinary number of bags and items.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
I'm a backpack and about a third of a suitcase,
and then my significant other is a suitcase and two
thirds of my suitcase. See, they got to have room
for the shoes, that's what she tells me.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
Apparently, those are the things we were talking about that
I was talking about.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
You know, when I got back in my act the
first time, and it was a backpack in Europe, you know,
it's a backpack.

Speaker 1 (17:40):
I had four pair of clothes in there and met
in a blazer and that's what I.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
Took with me, right And uh yeah, it's it's funny
how you vacation though with a significant other, and I've
done that before. And the number, the sheer volume of
suitcases that are taken, and none of them are yours.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
And then when you get to the hotel room and
you want to hang up your couple, there's no room.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
I still stays in the bag. There ain't no room.
No room that's already taken. I had to get two rooms,
one just for the oven, for the clothes.

Speaker 2 (18:10):
Five six sixth nine Zeros text line Steve were talking
before the break. We're talking about the uh, the Raiders, right,
and le Broncos are headed out to the Vegas to
take on the Raiders, which is their latest municipality after
the fifteen other places they after they bounce back and
forth between Oakland and la.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
For however many years.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
But when you played the Raiders, obviously I know the
Mike Shanahan thing, and there's animosity there because of that
because they, you know, Al Davis screwed Mike chantan some money.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
But was there was there more to that rivalry than that?

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Was it? Was it?

Speaker 1 (18:38):
You know?

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (18:39):
Yeah, that was definitely more to it, because even before that,
there has always been a dislike, I believe, from the
Raiders towards us and US towards the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
So that rivalry has been is saming with the cheese.
I mean, we don't like the Chiefs either. We don't
like to Cheese, don't like the Raiders, don't like the Chargers.
Did like to see Hawks Sews.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
The Seahawks right back then, you know, but it never
felt like the Chargers of the Seahawks were serious rivalry
games to me. And I say that as I lived
in Kansas City at the time, and Kansas City had
two rivals and it was the Denver Broncos and the
Raiders whatever.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
The city they were in that year.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
But it's like that, I think in every division, I mean,
your division rival is normally your biggest opponent or the
team that you hate the most because you had to
play them twice every year, right, and you get the
feelings because something's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
You know, the more times you play somebody, the more
opportunity is for something to happen. You get feelings about
it and all that kind of stuff. But I just
wondered because I think a lot of people, or at
least the current generation of Broncos fans, don't almost don't
know anything about Al Davis screwing Mike Shanahan out of money.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
You know, it's like the Raiders. I don't like the
Raiders because we played the Raiders. But is there you know,
I don't even know that whole story. What's the whole.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Story on he fired Mike Shanahan and all the money
that he owed him. Okay, so on the contract basically okay,
and Mike. You know, that's why Mike always had the
Raiders circled. You know, Greek was always a big deal,
which is was Mike. But you know what though, to
the players, he never he never made that a focal point.
He wanted us to look at every team like they

(20:11):
were the same. We're gonna go regardless of who it is,
We're gonna go out and dominate.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
And we all built up our dislike for each team
that we played, So I wouldn't say that he focused
more on them than any other team, even though he
may have hated them a little bit more.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Well, I was gonna say that was it was pretty
well known beef for for a while.

Speaker 1 (20:35):
Yeah, as far as that goes, But you know, it's it's.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
One of those, uh, one of those things that I
don't even think the current generation of fans even knows
anything about it.

Speaker 1 (20:42):
I mean, we're so we're so far removed.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
From Mike Shanahan as a head coach at this point,
let alone Mike Shanahan being uh, you know, with the Raiders, right.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
So it's you know, I feel like that that's God,
but that that didn't you know why Al Davis didn't pam.
We didn't give a reason.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Man, I'm remember exactly what it was, because Tom Flores
didn't Flores stepped down, Shanahan took over, was never given
the fair shake, and then I think he, you know,
he promised Shanahan something and then he fired him, you know,
midway through and didn't pay him off the rest of
it or something like that. I think that's that's how

(21:19):
it goes. I have to go back and get the
I don't even remember anymore what the specifics of that were,
but I do remember that Davis was upset at some
of Shanahan's play calling because Shanahan was, you know, more
of the West Coast and you know there was and
now Davis famously wanted what you speaking along, right, and
so it was it was it was a conflict of
style from the beginning and I remember the Raiders started

(21:41):
off like it was like one in five or two
and four, whatever it was, and.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
They didn't win any of the preseason games.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
And the guy whoever the commentator was on CBS at
the time, was during the broadcast, said that Mike Shanahan
had almost been fired before the season.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
It started like six weeks him of this, Yeah, six
weeks end of the season. And so then the Raiders started,
I yeah, what was it? One in three?

Speaker 2 (22:08):
So I'm like, I don't even remember anyway, and they
were running trap plays instead of power like like al
wunder Roun and not throwing deep enough to with a
gault and so, uh, I think it was the Monday,
Monday night he told Mike he was thinking about firing
him and replacing him with Art Shell, and then Tuesday
morning he did it. And so there was that, and

(22:30):
then I don't know anyway, there was some quibbling over
the contract after that. That That's what I wrote. That's
how I remember it. I'd have to go back and
look at everything, but that's the gist of it.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
As far as I didn't know, I didn't know that
much detail. Yeah, I was saying it was a whole thing.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
But anyway, and then Mike of course got the job
with the Broncos, and uh it made it, you know
a kind of thing. But that's that's what I was
getting at is is you know, I wonder if there
is any extra sauce to that anymore, If there is any,
I mean, I do the because the Broncos, the Raiders have.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Not been successful for a long time.

Speaker 2 (22:58):
However, they were beating up on the Brakos for three
or four years in a row there, I mean as
long as that street to Kansas City before they broke it.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
And Josh Jacobs is no longer there. And my goodness,
was he parts just Jacobs man. It was like it
was like that he didn't rust for one hundred years
against them, I don't think. So he ran against the
Broncos like it was personal man, Like I hated when
we played them when he was on their team. And
when I saw the Simon Greenba, I'm like, thank you

(23:26):
came out of the division, him out of the division,
so uh we can have a chance to beat these guys.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Yeah, he was.

Speaker 2 (23:33):
He ran. It was so funny because he just he
ran like he was angry at the Denver Broncos or something.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
He was there for five years. I think it would take.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
But he he ran like the Denver Broncos had had
made a mistake and not drafted him.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
That many years ago. I know, man, like, do you
have something against us?

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Man? It felt like it because you up for those games,
and but I mean, yeah, and now of course he's
in Green Bay.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
But I don't think that there's like that rivalry.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
He gets talked about it in the same hour if
it's Raiders Week, you know, that kind of thing. But
it doesn't feel like there's any extra sauce to it
like there used to be. It doesn't feel like there's
that that. It just seems like that across the league,
though I don't know. Kansas City Week I think feels
like something you can think. Oh, I think it does.
I think it's still got a less sauce to it.

Speaker 3 (24:17):
But everybody probably gets up for them because because they're
the champs.

Speaker 1 (24:20):
Yeah, because they're the champs. I mean maybe maybe I don't.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
I mean I'm trying to think of like, because you know,
you still do have like even with the Jets and
the Patriots both being bandished, they still get up for
each other.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
The Jets and the Patriots, like they still get up
for each other. You know, Cowboys and Washington, you think that.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
I mean that Cowboys and Philly like Cowboys aren't They're
the same visions.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
There extra sauce in that. I don't know that there
is with the Raiders anymore.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
I mean maybe there was up until the Broncos snapped
the streak earlier this year. Yeah, but I mean I
don't just don't know if the Broncos have been good
enough to have rivalries like you know what I mean,
Like you've not been good enough to even be able
to focus on stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (25:03):
I mean, we've played them good, I think, but we lost.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Like we lost how many in a role like we
had We hadn't be until we won the game that
earlier this year.

Speaker 1 (25:12):
We had one since Sean Gruden, I know, I know,
and we beat Josh Jacobs one time. Yeah, that sounds
about right.

Speaker 2 (25:21):
The last time the Broncos had beaten the Raiders, John
Gruden was still the head coach. You've been through Josh
McDaniels and Rich Pasacia and Antonio Pierce and you know
and all that stuff since then. Yeah, they've been through
like three coaches since that's the last time, like everybody
was talking about the Kansas City streak, but I was like, bro,
the more embarrassing thing is this Raiders streak.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
It's sitting here that nobody's.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Nobody's talking about because you had the Kansas City cover.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Well, when RUSS beat Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Last year, all of a sudden put that Raiders thing
right back in the spotlight.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
Yeah, So thankfully we took care of that to the
end of the year. But I think they'll take care
of business this weekend. I'm pretty confident. But it doesn't
feel like there's any sauce to it anymore. There's not
any hatred. There's not that whole like player's flipping team,
you know, Bill Romanowski, there's not.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
And there's not any you don't have that.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
I don't know. It may be something within the locker
room that we don't know about. I guess you you
probably know I'm aware of. I mean, there's not like
I know, it's.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
Not it's just like another game that'd be interesting that.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
The players say. I asked, it's like, it's not, man,
it's just another game.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
Like it's not I mean, it's the Raiders, but you know,
and they'll say that I don't say the right things
at the podium, but you talk to him off offline
and man, this.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
Is just another team dude.

Speaker 3 (26:23):
But you know what that's that's the same way that
Mike wanted us to look at our opponents.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
Yeah, he wanted you to look at like, hey, he
didn't get all the Raiders a scrooge McDuck over here
stole money from me. No, he did not.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
He never brought that up. Wow, he never brought that.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
That's interesting, that's fascinating because I would have figured he
would have, you know, yeah, he's like, no, let it
leak through somebody else.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
You know, Hey, man, you know the Raiders stole from coach.
You know they stole you know, they didn't never know
none of that. No, that's the way I would do it.

Speaker 2 (26:52):
Been my assistant coaches would be in the year a
player hear in the leadership council, Hey you know that.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
You know, hey, he's got the coach got a little
some extra here. Man, they stole from him. You know,
we we didn't need that though. We didn't need that extra. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
We we learned to just like naturally, you know, I
mean we we we stay told we were standing before
the games looking at him like making up stories like, hey, man,
this I said something to my wife and to my mom,
you know, disrespectful.

Speaker 1 (27:19):
So yeah, ookay, we're gonna get you back for that.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Yeah. Well, in the end it all worked out for
everybody involved except the Raiders. So yeah, I guess we're
all happy about that, right most definitely all right. Brian
texted in that, uh, Mike Shannonhan had offered to donate
the money of the Oakland School District if al Davis
ever settled a debt was around four hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Mike's that kind of guy. Man, He's got the biggest heart.
That's crazy because four hundred came back then. How much
that when he came back then? I mean, you know
in that economy, hey, that's about four million. It's uh
but it's still good money. I mean that's just good money.
So uh interesting in the NFL dollars, Yeah, how much

(28:01):
for co coaches probably weren't even making that much back then.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
I have to look, I'm gonna try to do the uh,
I'm trying to do the look on the website here
and see exactly how much.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
It would be with the inflation adjuster I'm trying to
put the so it would basically be two.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
Point five times the money, So it would be one
point two million dollars give or take in today's money
four hund thousand, and then would be like one point
two million today. Okay, then he stiffed them all, so
that say's roughly that's roughly with the inflation calculator, give
or take that that still is still is good money.
I'm just saying, like that's just you know, four hundred
thousand dollars, I mean, four thousand dollars a lot of money,

(28:36):
but back then that's worth like, you know, somebody stiffing
you on one point two today. I don't think anybody's
letting anybody get away with that. Yeah, no, no, no,
at the Steve Outwater school of uh not letting people
get away with tough.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
You gotta come on with it. We gotta come collect that. Yeah,
we just need to go ahead. Put put it plate,
Put the plate here, all right, you put the plate here.
I'm coming, I'm We're coming, see you coming, We're coming
to see you.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
With it.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
With the growth of bow Nicks, how optimistic are we
about the future of this Broncos team because we look
at this we're seeing, We're seeing this turnaround start to
happen in real time.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
But just a rookie quarterback.

Speaker 2 (29:07):
How much optimism does that give you that the Broncos
could be back to a super Bowl center and later.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
Well, I would say at the beginning of the season,
after we watched him in training camp, we all thought
that back then that he looked great and he got
off to a little bit of a rocky start. But
you know that's to be expected from a rookie quarterback
in the NFL. You know, that would be unheard of
for him not to have had that. So I think

(29:32):
he's ahead of schedule actually, and just just doing really good,
doing really well every every single week, putting in the work, studying, uh,
you know, practicing hard and going out on Sundays.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
Showing that he's the man.

Speaker 2 (29:46):
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. I love the way
that he doesn't seem to make the same mistakes. It
looks like she's got the right attitude, the right optimism. Uh.
And we see growth week to week. We see growth
out of about x. There's still some things to clean up.
We're not putting Hm in.

Speaker 1 (29:57):
A canton yet. You're a Cantons again. Yet. I mean,
he just he has the maturity you know of he is.
He is a little old rookie.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
But yeah, but you know, it's still to be a
rookie quarterback in the NFL. It's it's got to be
a little bit overwhelming.

Speaker 2 (30:15):
And well we've seen Anthony Richardson's in his second year
and he just got benched, you know, for pulling himself
out of a game, for being tired. I've yeah a
little you got a Pina colad over here, am a
little I never like I knows that's tapping out. Yeah,
I was, you know, I'd never seen some stuff like that.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
But I did you watch the Tyson fight, by the way, No,
but I saw a a shordtened version of it. Okay, Yeah,
I couldn't watch that. No, I couldn't. I couldn't miss watch.

Speaker 2 (30:43):
I was just curious just to just to see what
your Netflix experience was like, because mine was was pretty terrible.

it's a fun show. You've seen Rick play before, I've
seen videos of him.

Speaker 3 (31:06):
I've never seen him that person, but man, Ricks such
a great guy. I talked to him at the game
one Sunday a little bit and like, my grandmother had
passed from Alzheimer's many years ago, and I believe he
said his grandma or someone in his family had had Alzheimer's.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
So it's some important month too, man.

Speaker 3 (31:28):
So, uh, that's it's it's a great cause and I'm
looking forward to to help and support that.

Speaker 5 (31:34):
You're gonna be blown away by their lead singer, Sarah Hornbuckle.

Speaker 1 (31:39):
You can throw on. Oh man, she's got a voice.
I hope she's a name like Sarah Hornbuckle. I hope
she sings that Alicia Keys calling. Yeah, she does a
really good job with that. Yeah, one of their signature
signature things that they do. So get a chance and look. Yeah.
So it's always a good time. Every time I've gone
to see Rick somewhere, it's it's all.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
I've probably seen him a dozen dozen and a half times.
