Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am Sean Trokes, our Grant Smith step into this
(00:03):
side of the studio with the as you put it up,
very stylish bowlo time ready to go, Macon Zack seekers
and I kind of look sloppy professional and then with
the ice cream cone windscreen you can't see it, but
but it's it's amazing.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
It's like crocheted or knitted or knitted.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yeah, my wonderful wife, Okay, I I was wonder if
it was you on as Weft. I mean, you know
anything that helps with the style. You can't turn the
swag off. You can only hope to contain it right exactly.
Speaker 4 (00:30):
So.
Speaker 5 (00:31):
You know, kind of like you know, you can only
tame it down a little bit.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Well it got it got tamed a little bit with
the three nine season, of course, Benjamin all Right and
Nick ferguson Backyard Nick earlier today with our friend Ryan Edwards,
of course.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
But then I'll be back tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (00:47):
Delighted to be sitting in with you and with everybody
here on Broncos Country tonight. But the Buffalo's had a
very disappointing campaign three and nine this season, and the
the the challenge here for the Buffs was always going
to be this grant eventually, no matter the style, no
matter the ability to tackle, the transfer portal and all
(01:09):
that sort of thing, this was always going to boil
down to winning games. And this was the first season
in Deon Sanders' career in which he didn't have one
of his sons playing for him, and there was a
concern going forward of what would that look like. And
it was something that when Deon Sanders made the jump
to Colorado, Colorado and back then Cincinnati, the only schools
(01:31):
now of course, both in the Big twelves, both schools
being the one that were willing to pony up the
money for the assistant coach pool because Deon Sanders is
sort of a CEO type.
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Coach, not your average head coach, no, and.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
Always going to boil down to this, and it's it's
it did not go the way they wanted. The talent
that they brought in did not either mature the way
they wanted to, the coaching did not go the way
they wanted, and probably a little bit of both. We
have an opportunity to talk about this a little bit
with Nicki Edwards of Yahu Sports joining us and Nicki,
Jean George Roden Grant Smith with you. Thanks so much
(02:07):
for the time. Obviously, news breaks today for the Buffaloes.
I guess we could start their CBS New Sacramento reporting
first that Sacramento State's head coach is going to leave,
Brendan marri And will leave the program after just one season.
They went seven and five, and now they are he's
going to come to Colorado to take over an offense
that did not generate even twenty one points per game.
(02:30):
If that ends up being the move, what do you
think about it?
Speaker 6 (02:34):
I mean, of course this was the number one priority
for Colorado to tackle this offseason. We all know Pad
Schumer's history with the Broncos, with the Giants in.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
Colorado and time and time again, no creative play calling,
no innovation in.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
Colorado needed a guy like Brennan Marion. And and I.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Think Bucks fans should be really excited.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
About this higher because he developed an offense called the
Go Go offense.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
It's built around the triple option, but no, Colorado is
not going to.
Speaker 6 (03:03):
Be an Army or Navy, but it's married with play
action passing while trying to move the ball down hill.
He's been really effective and at Tacramento State He did
have one year there, but in that one year they
averaged thirty eight point eight points per game, thirty nine
rushing touchdowns to the school record, fifty three total touchdowns,
and four hundred and five points scored.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
And you mentioned Colorado this year twenty point nine points
per game.
Speaker 6 (03:26):
Two hundred fifty to two hundred and fifty one total points,
and thirty two total touchdowns. There is production there and
he does have a valid resume. Tacramento State was three
to nine and twenty twenty four, he came in turned
it into a seven and five program, twenty second.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Sts offense, and prior to that he worked at UNLB
and they ranked fourteenth in points per game, any one
Mountain West Conference Coordinator of the Year in twenty twenty three.
Speaker 6 (03:50):
There's just a laundry list of success. And he worked
with Xavier Worthy as the wide receivers coach a pass
game coordinator in Texas in twenty twenty two and they
were a top twenty five scoring offense. And he also
worked with Jordan Addison. He won the Balintakop Awards. So
you see this triple option kind of lingering with this
go go offense that he runs. But he does know
(04:10):
how to operate the pass game, and he's able to
turn around programs he did at the high school level,
he did at Sacramento State, and he's able to operate
an offense on both sides of the ball. And I
think it was really going to garner both Julian Lewis
running talent and his passing talent.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
And of course this is what Colorado needed. He was
a highest page coach in FCS.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
And he also is a really talented recruiter. He's shared
the number one ranked twenty twenty six recruiting class at
the FCS level.
Speaker 4 (04:39):
He can recruit, he can coach, he can design an offense.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
There's so many positives with this hire, and I think
Colorado really hit the nail on the head with this one.
And I'm excited to see more creativity, more innovation, because
that's something that Colorad will lack on the offensive side
of the ball this year.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yeah, anytime you have Pat Shermer as your offensive coordinator,
you may be lacking in creativity. You mentioned and Juju
Lewis and they red shirt at him. Didn't play in
the last game of the year, but I think that
was one of the bright spots coming out of the
end of the season while they weren't winning games. Juju
Lewis looks like the real deal at quarterback. How do
you think he fits into this offense with Marion and
how will he adjust his offense to fit Juju's skill set.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
I think he's a really adaptable and valuable quarterback, and
as you mentioned, I think Colorado really needed to retain
their stars and Julianne Lewis.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
He is such a good learner and he was able
to step into.
Speaker 6 (05:31):
Colorado's offense despite you know, going back and forth with
the job. But even under maybe not the best play calling,
he was able to adjust and.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Create his own plays.
Speaker 6 (05:40):
And that's something that really favors Julian Lewis and this
offense coming in, It's like you're able to make a
variety of plays and really go off and the play
action passing we've seen Julian Lewis.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
He can be that dual threat guy.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
And he's able to throw the ball incredibly well.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
He has so much potential in a really high ceiling.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
I think him and Brendan Marion are going to blend
well together because they both ultimately they both want the
same goal. And I think brend And Marion is going
to work with his strengths because he is a players
coach and Julian Lewis he is.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Still a student of the game, and I think he's.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
Going to retain this information and see how much productivity
they can have in this kind of offense.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
As long as Colorado retains their stars and is able
to have the same production on the offensive.
Speaker 6 (06:26):
Line as they did in the past season, which was
one of the bright points this year, this offense can
be one of the best in the Big Twelve.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
It just will take a little bit of time for
everyone to get on the same page.
Speaker 6 (06:37):
But Brendan Marion, there.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Is just such a high lead. He's just so highly.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
Renowned with players, and I think he's going to be
such a great addition and help Julian Lewis in his
maturation process at the college level.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
And you bring up a lot of the what Julie
Lewis did, and I think it's important to note for
fans remember this is a guy that turned eighteen in September,
so we're talking about the player that is real, really
young to be playing at that level.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
I think red shirting.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Was probably a good idea though the reality is nowadays
that if.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
He's half the quarterback the buss think he is and doesn't,
he won't better the whole time.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
So I don't know if that matters that much, but
I understand not putting him out there for that last
game to kind of just get thought. But it is
interesting when a coach leaves a head coaching job to
become a coordinator, and presumably there's the idea that there's
the step.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Up, and we saw this with Dean Sanders.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
First hire Sean Lewis, who quit quit Kent State as
their head coach to come in as the officer coordinator.
Things kind of went sideways and they parted ways, but
he is out there at San Diego State, took them
to a nine to three record this year. Had they
not lost in double overtime to New Mexico in their
final game of the year, they would have won the
Mountain West outright.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
So it is also possible to marry him.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Maybe look at this as a stepping stone job a
lah Lewis, where you take a step back conceptually being
a head coach because you can get a better head
coaching job relatively soon afterwards.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
No, certainly I think we saw with Robert Livingston in
his first year as defensive coordinator.
Speaker 6 (08:03):
NFL teams were reaching out to Robert Livingston because they
saw the job he did and turning around Colorado's defense. Yes,
that is a pathway, and ultimately, I think that's the
goal with coordinators to take over at the helm.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
He did, you know, serve a head coaches.
Speaker 6 (08:17):
At Sacramento State, and ultimately I feel like that's probably
what he wants to get to. Well, what they did
with Robert Livingston this year, Yes, he was getting lucrative
offers at the pro level and you want that forward
progress in your profession. But Colorado paid Robert Livingston to
stay another year. They made him the highest paid assistant
in the Big Twelve, and they have coaching stability and
(08:39):
that is so important just to lay a foundation.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
So it's not this coaching carousel that.
Speaker 6 (08:45):
We've always experienced with Colorado football coordinators, head coaches.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Going in and out of the revolving door.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
I'd like to see Brendan Mary in two maybe three years,
and who knows, like this could really propel him into
the next level because he achieved so much in his
career and he's a proven touchdown score, he's good at misdirection,
He's able to disrupt defenses incredibly well. So he has
(09:12):
that level of productivity and now I think Colorado, as
long as they retain him for two years, Colorado can
have that success that coach crime always talks about where
they want to be and as long as they can
pay him, like Robert Livingston, hopefully you can stick around
Colorado for at least a couple of years.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
The stability you're talking about, and we're talking with Nicky
Edwards of Yaku Sports is obviously important. And for the
Buffaloes with a season that really fell apart, and when
we talked about Julian Lewis, it was the top quarterback
high school prospect in the country. It feels now that
the three and nine a lot of teams expect to get.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
When you're in that spot.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Guys are going to hit the transfer portal en Mass right,
they're going to bail out left to right. For the Buffaloes,
it feels like the thing they cannot afford that you
could bounce back as you suggested, But Julia Lewis and
Jordan Seton, neither of those guys their top recruits over
the last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Those guys can't leave.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
You have to do everything but bar the door, because
if either of those guys walk, it looks as if
things are starting to fall apart in Boulder. This is
kind of an interesting inflection point, not only for the
University of Colorado, but for Deon Sanders' career as a
head coach.
Speaker 6 (10:20):
Oh certainly retaining their stars is also that the second
priority under finding a new offensive coordinator. You pay these
players Jordan Seen and Judan Lewis so much money.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
So you hope to get that end of the bargain.
Speaker 6 (10:34):
Omarion Miller, Joseph Williams, topee fired, London Merritt. There's so
many individual young guys, it's like you cannot.
Speaker 4 (10:42):
Have them leave.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
And I think Colorado, hopefully their efforts is to retain.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Their players despite going three to nine.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
It didn't look good, but hopefully coach Prime can garner
that allure of.
Speaker 4 (10:53):
Hey, this was a bad season, this was unlike us.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
Yes, we had just such an off season. Nothing what
they were maybe projected to be what Coach Prime and
vision for this team. But I think what's the most
convincing for players is that seeing Coach Prime making changes
on the offensive side of the ball, but Colorado was
really injured this year and that definitely played a significant
role in how terrible they were. And also, yeah, the
(11:20):
defense and the talent everything culminated together. But retaining their
stars is going to be so important, and maybe they
can open up their pocketbooks and that's going to be
another key this offseason is to really evaluate players and
make sure they're there.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
For the right reasons and get a return on their investment.
I think they're going to get that.
Speaker 6 (11:40):
With Julian Lewis and Jordan Seaton and Omari and Millian.
Jordan seen talked earlier and this season they said were
locked in with the Buffs, and maybe they can just
say that. But I know Jordan Seaton is.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Going to stay.
Speaker 6 (11:50):
And I hope they can retain their stars because they
were the bright spot this season.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
The defense was injured, but they need a lot.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
Of help to a linebacker and their top corner was injured.
Two there was just so many missteps along the wave,
and hopefully they can keep all these guys around because
they had so many bright moments.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
But some were shrouded by injuries and they just need
to retain these guys and hopefully they can.
Speaker 6 (12:16):
Move forward with a season of winning, hopefully bowl game
season next year.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Final question for me, Nikki, talk about you know, coach
Prime loves to rely on the transfer portal.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
He's got a small high school recruiting.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Class coming in, But it looks like there's a couple
of four stars on there.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
Is there anyone that we should keep an eye.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
On going into next season for the Buffs that's coming
in as a true freshman.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
I like linebacker Carson Crawford. Yes, he's he has an
opportunity ahead of him at linebacker.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
I mean this year we had.
Speaker 6 (12:46):
Reginald and Hughes from Jacksonville State and Martavia's friends at UTSA.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
They both did a fine job. But if you look
at Colorado.
Speaker 6 (12:53):
In twenty twenty four, they had they had Nick Nikai
Hill Green and Levon sa Bentley. Those two guys were
punch in the run defense that kind of fell off
this year. Maybe Carson Crawford could be that automatic presence
that Colorado has. And I like four star safety Preston
Ashley too. I think they could use if they can
(13:14):
keep Toptiu fired and keep Carter Stout more healthy. Presdon
actually can be a good depth beast, and.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
I think they did. I think they missed.
Speaker 6 (13:22):
Out on a couple of blue chip recruits just this offseason.
There was just a there was guys that they were scouting,
a lot of really big summer visits, and Colorado.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
Just missed some mark there.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
There is a lot of three star talent that you
can maybe look forward to, but in terms of making
an automatic impact in the twenty twenty sixth season, I
like Carson Crawford and maybe Exager Payne.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
A three star offensive tackle. He's six eight, he's a
big guy. And I like what Colorado is doing with
their offensive.
Speaker 6 (13:50):
Line and really building size and strength and depth. That
was one part these past two years the offensive line.
We heard how bad it was and this year were
finally seeing a little bit of progress there.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
So hopefully call her I can maintain that. And yeah,
it was just a couple of miscues on the.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
Recruitment side of it, and just I like this class
and hopefully they can garner a few more.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Well, it certainly shows you how we're mismanaging that or
even missing just a little bit can have a major
impact on the season. Multiple transfer portal windows, multiple signing days,
so many different ways for college football rosters. If you be built,
you want to stay on top of it in the
off season. Nicki Edwards of Yahoo Sports, make sure you
give her a follow. Check out everything they're doing over
there to stay on top of everything. Buffalo's Nikki, really
(14:36):
appreciate the time. Thanks so much for joining us.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Yeah, thanks for having me on.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Thank you, Nicki Edwards from Young Sports.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
It is going to be a monumental offseason, right because
when we talk about the Buffalo's coming into this year, now,
all the doubt, all the doubters, all the haters for
Denon Sanders.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
See, we told you he couldn't get it done at
this level.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
You can get it done with the Heisman Trophy winner
and your own son who'd be drafted in an interesting location.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
But nevertheless that's not there anymore.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
So it's a major, major off season for the Buffaloes.
It will be fascinating to see what they can do.
Appreciate Nicky Edwards coming on with us. Of course Week
fourteen of the NFL. Already Week fourteen, let's on tap
in the NFL. We grant zach me. We're gonna go
through the slate. We're gonna do NFL Pick them. We'll
do that next on Broncos Country to Night right here
(15:26):
on KOA eight fifty AM and ninety four point one FM.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Look, we're talking about the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
But you have to look at the whole landscape of
the NFL had a great season because who knows, right,
as we talked about at the beginning of the show,
the top three teams in the AFC are the Patriots,
the Broncos, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Anybody, Look, guys, I
want to explain this, and it always corrects you up.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
You know, we've been in this business. You've seen it.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
When the schedule who comes out and all the social
media teams of all the teams have this schedule reveal
that its own sort of an NFL holiday. What happens, right,
people all over the sports broadcast landscape, like we're gonna
go game by game and we're gonna tell you what
your team's record is gonna be. You know, in the spring, anybody,
(16:20):
anybody anywhere that covers the NFL that told it says,
oh yeah, back then, when I went game by game
around the NFL schedule in the spring, I definitely said
the Patriots, Broncos and Jaguars would be in first place
in the.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
AFC, and the NFC would end.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Up with the Bears and the Rams.
Speaker 2 (16:42):
You are simply lying the AFC.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Literally, No, Zach had a we were talking during during
the break that actually happens little peak rid the curtain.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
You know, we talked during the break.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Zach was was talking about the likelihood of the Broncos
winning all of their team, you know, all their games
been with coming back, and Zach you had that. It's
it's pretty amazing, especially when you put it in context.
Speaker 7 (17:05):
Yeah, it's about one in five point six million. It's
like point zero zero zero zero zero, one eight percent chance.
The odds of getting struck by lightning are about one
point two millions.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
That's not a plan. Then, at no point in you go, hey,
here's our plan for the season. Right, I'll tell you
what though, the one the one in five point six million,
the odds on anybody saying that they had dispredicted and
being right, those would be great odds. I feel confident
in saying nobody anywhere in the NFL observing world had
(17:42):
these had this situation is laid out right now. Nobody
anywhere period better.
Speaker 5 (17:47):
Chance to get struck by lightning than have this.
Speaker 2 (17:49):
Right multiple times exactly.
Speaker 5 (17:52):
That's what makes the NFL so great, and it's also.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
What makes you know, coming through the schedule and trying
to do the pick up so much fun.
Speaker 5 (17:59):
You ready to we pick some games for this week.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
I am ready to probably more be more wrong than
I would like, because again, unpredictability is kind of baked
into the NFL.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
We don't remember the ones were wrong on. We remember
the ones were right off.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
Oh I remember the ones I'm wrong on. I just
don't like to remind me.
Speaker 3 (18:15):
Well, we got Week fourteen already underway with Thursday night football.
We're gonna start with the Sunday slate, the eleven o'clock games,
Seahawks at the Falcons. Seahawks favored by seven points, Seahawks
nine to three, Falcons four and eight.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
Sean, who do you like in this game?
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Not the Falcon?
Speaker 1 (18:33):
A few games the rest of this year, then I'm
gonna like the Falcons. And it's unfortunate because there is
actually a lot to like about the way that team
is coming around. But the injuries have been really problematic.
And when you talk about the Seahawks, Sam Dron will
give him a ton of credit. And again when you
look at young quarterbacks. Now, the Broncos don't have this issue.
Right with Bo Nicks. We know who the quarterback is.
(18:54):
But boy, there's one thing you learn. When the quarterback
you draft doesn't immediately hit, don't assume you drafted wrong.
Sometimes it's the coaching, Sometimes it's the fit. It's the
dirty little secret in the NFL. Ask the Vikings right now,
even when JJ McCarthy was playing, Yeah, I don know
if you go very far to ask Justin Jefferson, which quarterback.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
You rather have, Bobby Sam Donald. This is going to
be a.
Speaker 5 (19:14):
Bug meet Winshield game.
Speaker 7 (19:16):
I think, you know, lighting up Kirk Cousins, the shell
of Kirk Cousins against this Seahawks defense, it feels like
some form of elder of use to me.
Speaker 5 (19:24):
I think the Seahawks cruise. Yeah, I agree with both
of you.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Seahawks man, they are the real deal. They've regained their
prominence in the NFC.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
And so three one on the road.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
Next game, Steelers at Ravens both six and six, bad
waying for first place in that AFC.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
North.
Speaker 3 (19:41):
Lamar Jackson was out of practice today, so we'll see
what that looks like come Sunday, Ravens favored by five
and a half at home over under forty two and
a half.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Little low for my taste. But who do you like
in this one?
Speaker 1 (19:53):
I think what we saw with the Steelers in their
last game is everything, all the house of cards that
Mike Tomlin carefully cobble together. This guy does not have
losing seasons. He just finds a way to make it work.
I think the wheels started to come off the wagon
last week, and I think it's gonna continue whether Lamar
Jackson plays or not.
Speaker 7 (20:12):
Oh wow, I fully agree. I just don't know what
this team does well. Like the Ravens, the defense has
turned it around.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
They're good. You've still got Derek Henry to lean on.
Speaker 7 (20:22):
That run game still good. I don't know what the
Steelers do well. In theory, they should rush the passer well,
but they haven't done that all season outside the Colts gad.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Yeah, the defense has been the worst part of their
team this year, which is a complete one to eighty
from previous years.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
But I'm taking the Steelers in this game.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
I think they're gonna win this game against the Ravens
get first place back in the AFC. North and they'll
still be fire Tomlin chance, you know like that.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
Probably the Denver Broncos, who let's be talking about the
idea that the Bills and the Chiefs are down. You
know another place you don't want to have to go
or at least even play them in January. I don't
want to play John Harbond the Ravens.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Yeah, I agree with that one again that no one
cares about outside of Cleveland and Nashville.
Speaker 5 (21:03):
The Titans at the brown bolder and bolder.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
I did go and watch the Browns watch party against
the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
Buddy in town, who's a big.
Speaker 2 (21:12):
Cleveland Browns like self loathing issues?
Speaker 3 (21:15):
Whats Hey, Browns fans were high on your door. We'll
see if they are after this week. Brown's favored by
four at home over under thirty three and a half.
Speaker 2 (21:26):
Wow, you know I don't.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
I'd stay away from this with a ten foot pole. Look,
if there's one that the Titans are gonna win, it
might very well be this one. The one reason they
wouldn't is because you know, the can Ward gets out
of bed in the morning and get sacked and now
you have to take on Miles Garrett. So that's probably
a problem. I would say the Browns probably win it
simply on that. But boy, if you're looking at the
(21:48):
ones that you're flipping through on your Sunday ticket, you
can skip that one unless you.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
Want to see Miles Garrett set the sack record.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Yeah he might.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
He might get three four five in this game.
Speaker 7 (22:00):
You know he might have a Khalil macversus brock Osweiler
as perfore means last shower Sanders.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Holes onto the ball way too long. Also true the
figures crossed. I've got the brohps in this one.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
I got the Browns as well at home next Colts
at the Jaguars game that for the first place in
the AFC South. I'd love this matchup. I think this
is one of the game of the games of the week.
I did not see the Jaguars turning it around and
did not see the Colts collapsing so much. But you
got the Daniel Jones injury and the Colts favored by
(22:29):
one and a half on the road.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Would you like in this one show?
Speaker 1 (22:33):
I actually I like the Jaguars from one of you
if you go watch the games. I think Daniel Jones
is playing through an injury that is problematic. And if
he's not as mobile as as he could be, remembered
part of the reason he's been able to jump off
in play so well.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Shean Steichen is the kind of guy that knows how.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
To work with these these quarterbacks, mobile quarterbacks. He got
Jalen Hurts cooking at the NFL level, so when he
got Daniel Jones, it doesn't shock me that he was
able to maximize the ability. But if Jones isn't physically
at his best, then it's really hard to get it
because he is not Jalen Hursey, is not the kind
of guy that the succeeds regardless of the opponent. I
like the Jaguars, I like the way they're playing, I
(23:07):
like the resiliency.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
I'll go with them.
Speaker 7 (23:11):
And not only is Daniel Jones playing worse, but I
think it's been put under a magnifying glass where because
teams have zeroed it on Jonathan Taylor, they're slowing him down.
And as a result of your years getting the worst
of Daniel Jones, the last three Cults games, I believe
have been Taylor's three least productive games, all three losses
as well.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
Yeah, one word answer for me, dude, give me.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
The Jags baby Commanders at the Vikings. Commanders three and
nine played the Broncos tough last week. You can see
the team hasn't given up on head coach Dan Quinn.
Vikings favored by one and a half though at home
four and eight on the year, I think we're seeing
Max Brosmer again for the Vikings. This one is going
to be an ugly watch. I don't know, are you
(23:56):
going to tune into this at all?
Speaker 2 (23:57):
No, I'm gonna skip this one too.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
But I was impressed with the way with the fight
the Commanders had, knowing that especially, and one things is
cape in mind about that. Keep in mind that the
Commanders were the NFC Championship last year.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
To have this all.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Kind of fall apart to what they're at right now
is really disheartening. But to see the way they thought
of the Broncos, the way they played hard told me
that this is a team that's got a lot of pride.
Speaker 2 (24:18):
We do know they have a lot of talent right now,
it's injuries that are holding them back.
Speaker 1 (24:22):
And if you're talking about the battle of backups, we
saw what Marcus Mariota can do when they dial up
the quick hit offense for him.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
I think that's going to be enough to get the
past the Vikings.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
Mariota.
Speaker 7 (24:32):
Mariota a great game against the Broncos. I thought one
of the better backup quarterbacks in the league. I think
the quarterback discrepancy is strongly in Washington's favor, that Cliff
Kingsbury's really has that offense rolling even with Maryota.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
I think the Commanders win.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
I think the Commanders win as well. Another stinker of
a game the Dolphins and the Jets, but both of
them winning a couple of games recently. Dolphins are favored
by three points over under four one and a half.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
I like the Dolphins in this one.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
I think that they're just they're a They're a better
team talent wise.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Right now.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
I think that I give the Jets credit for for
continuing to kind of battle, and they've had to deal
with the quarterback issues as well. I just think the
Dolphins are a better team. The problem is they are
not good on the road. On the bright side, is
supposed to be chili but not supposed to get some
of that weather in New York. If that changes, I
would probably change my opinion. But right now, I take
the Dolphins in a game that. You're right, I don't
really want to watch the Dolphins.
Speaker 7 (25:29):
Season has been over for a month and they are
still playing so dang hard. I think it's a strong argument,
honestly for them keeping Mike McDaniel around.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
They've also pivoted.
Speaker 7 (25:37):
It seems like they're playing their best ball down the stretch.
Speaker 5 (25:39):
They're keeping a.
Speaker 7 (25:41):
Slim chance at the playoffs a live still, they've got
more to play for. I think they beat the Jets
a great Dolphins and this one for me as well.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
We're picking some underdogs in this one too, and then
the road like the road teams.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
Guys, Hey road dogs, Baby, you'll go broke. So I'm
gambling problem the Buccaneers. Buccaneers are favored by eight and
a half at home forty one and a half for
the over under. Seems like the Bucks got back on
track last week.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Yeah, have you seen the same lately. I'm not going
to spend a lot of time breaking this down.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
Bucks all day.
Speaker 7 (26:13):
Yeah, Todd Bowles is going to have Tyler Shugg living
and hell the Bucks roll.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Yeah, Bucky Irving back for the Bucks. A big deal
of Bucks. I think they cover in this game as well.
Bengals at the Bills four and eight Bengals, but they
got Joe burback on the road and Buffalo and Buffalo
favored by five and a half.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Two teams with really disappointing defenses. Of course, we knew
that was Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
We really did that right. The Bill's a bit of
a surprise. Look.
Speaker 1 (26:38):
I think Burrow gives them a fighting chance because he's
able to elevate that team. But I think going into
Buffalo is going to be below freezing. The Bills have
everything in front of them to play for. I think
the Bengals are going to give them a fight. I'm
not going to pick them over the Bills all the
way up at Orchid Park.
Speaker 7 (26:54):
I feel crazy doing it, but I am going to
pick the Bengals the Bills Grant spend.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
I've thought about it, just just because y'all been so
generous and letting me crash the party today, and now
I learned about Branton being a Bengals fan and I
liked Joe.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
I thought about it, but I couldn't bring myself to
do it.
Speaker 7 (27:10):
My thing is, I think both defenses have been bad,
and Josh Allen hasn't been you know, the flamethrower. He's
been in past years. You know, we've seen it in
Spurts this season, but generally they've been leaning on their
run game. This Bengals attack, they can exploit the Bill's
own problems defending the run. And Joe Burrow last week
I thought looked amazing. I think, you know, an extra
week removed from his long absence, he'll be even better.
(27:32):
I think the Bengals plopped upsid and keep their own
I love that seekers.
Speaker 5 (27:36):
I'm going with the Bengals as well, just because I'm
a fan of the Bengals. Bears at the Packers.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Another great game this week and Packers favored by six
and a half at home. Looks like we're going to
get some weather in this game for the top of
the NFC North.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
A little bit of smoking mirrors going on for the Bears.
Speaker 1 (27:53):
The improvement is real, but nine to three feels a
little bit fortunate. I think with the Packers, as long
as Jordan is right in this game, it's the guy
that doesn't make a lot of mistakes, only throwing three
interceptions this year. I think that's probably enough to get
them over the Bears and make that division even more
interesting than it already is.
Speaker 7 (28:11):
The Bears are the luckiest team in the league this year.
They've got insane turnover luck. DVOA in Advanced Analytics thinks
they're the worst nine and three teams since like nineteen
seventy or something crazy like that. I think the Packers
roll in this one, and the Packers that might actually
be the game I'm most scared of remaining on the
Broncos schedule, more so than the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
I would agree with that as well. And I like
the Packers and in this game too. I think Mike
Parsons is going to have a big day and sack
kyleab Williams a couple of times. Rams at the Cardinals.
Rams nine and three, Cardinals three and nine, Rams favored
by eight and a half, coming off that disappointing loss
to the Panthers.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Yeah, and that's one of the reasons if you're the
Cardinals you got to be a little bit concerned because
the Rams are angry, they want to get that back,
and on top of that, they're pretty good on the road.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
This should be one that the Rams win easily.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Either favored by eight half, I think they cruise cruise
past the Cardinals. The only player to keep an eye
out for for you fantasy folks.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Is Trey McBride for the Cards.
Speaker 7 (29:08):
Yeah, really rough matchup for the Cards. Jacoby verseets a
bit of a statue in the pocket and this Rams
pass rush is absolutely nasty. I will say, though, I
like the Cardinals to cover the Rams.
Speaker 5 (29:20):
Sorry. The Cardinals have played everyone close.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
On their schedule. I think that will probably continue this week.
I don't agree with that record at home though.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Ah yeah, I know they've been playing tough all year,
but I like the Rams to bounce back in a
big way in this game and win by maybe two touchdowns,
which is a huge blowout. In the NFL Sunday Night Football,
another great matchup, you know, for all the duds. There's
some really good matchups in Week fourteen. Texans at the Chiefs.
This could put the nail in the coffin for the Chiefs,
(29:49):
but they're favored by three and a half at home.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Yeah, and I think the home has a lot The
home field advantage has a lot to do with that.
The Texans defense is they're the only one, along with
the Denver Broncos, that can make the claim of being
the best in the league. They absolutely have found a
way to shut people down. The Chiefs keep finding a
way to do it. There's a lot of talent there.
I have a feeling. I just think that when you're
talking about this dynasty or the Chiefs, I don't think
(30:12):
they're really ready to put it away just yet. They're
really good. At home five and one, I think they
find a way to get it done. But I'll tell
you what case he's favored by three and a half,
I think they win, but I don't think they cover.
Speaker 7 (30:23):
I'm going with the Texans again. I feel a little
crazy doing it, but the Chiefs. Everyone's highlighting the one
score game record. They're also two and six now against
playoff teams. They've struggled against the better teams in the
league and kind of beat up on the.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
Dregs of the league.
Speaker 7 (30:37):
I think this Texans defense is like perfectly built to
give them a hard time. They've really struggled against the
fan coverage this year. Texans are best in the league
at that. I think the Texans pulled the upset. I
hope you're right, but I think you're wrong.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
I'm going with the Chiefs at home Monday night football
Eagles at the Commanders two eight and four teams or
sorry Eagles at the Chargers. Chargers are two and a
half home dogs. We got that justin Herbert injury as well.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
Yeah, I mean it really comes down to that.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
I think that you're talking about it a better start
by silly. That team's offense is a little bit wonky
when it comes to their offense right now. Feels like
they'll just find a way to get it in gear.
The Charger's fielding them with injury issues obviously, not just Herbert,
but at the running back position. I think it's a
pretty hard one. It would not shock me if the
Chargers found a way to win this game. But as
we sit here today on a Thursday, I'm taking the Eagles.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
Yeah, Herbert's beat up.
Speaker 7 (31:27):
I think this Eagles pass rush is going to get home,
maybe beat AUBUFS some more. And if Frey Lance Suscher's
this game, it's Curtains Trey Lances in there. But over
under forty one and a half, I think it actually
goes under and the Chargers.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
Find a way to win. Final game. Of course, the.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
Broncos taken on the hated Raiders in Las Vegas. I
think it's going to be a Broncos home game in
Las Vegas with all the orange and the crowd. Bronco's
favored by seven and a half over under forty and
a half.
Speaker 5 (31:56):
Who do you like in this one?
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Vegas hasn't been the easiest place for this team to play,
but I think when you're talking about the ability, Bonex
has gotten better as the season gone along. I think
the Broncos are starting to normalize their offense.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
No, they don't run.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
Enough, that's the truth, but they've been getting it done
and the defense, now healthy, is more than enough to
handle even astral genty and Bronn Powers.
Speaker 7 (32:16):
I think the passing attack and the offense is putting
in its best play of the season. The Raiders look
like the defeated team, maybe the team with the least
win in its sales of anyone in the league. I
think the Broncos get another multi possession win here. I
feel like twenty four to ten sounds right.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
See I'd like to see two brock Powers touchdowns just
for my winner go home fantasy teams trying to get
into the playoffs. It's a good ball thing, but I
like the Broncos to win big as well. I think
we talked to Rick Lewis earlier about this being kind
of a get right game. I think it is for
the Broncos offense. I think we put up thirty plus
points and I think it's the thirty one to fourteen win.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
For the Broncos. Well, you'd love to see it.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
You'd love to see it in person, probably with a
bunch of other Broncos fans. And you can do that
two PM Sunday watch the Broncos and Raiders with Benjamin
all Right and Nick Ferguson at Burned Down, Denver off
of Broadway. You can enter to win Broncos Packers tickets
that big game that we were talking about as well,
all presented by Arta Tequila, the official tequila of the
Denver Broncos. To come on down, say hi and enjoy
the game with a whole bunch of Broncos fans. Well,
(33:15):
we have an opportunity to talk about one of the
what Broncos that knows about winning big games, our friend
Ryan Harris.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
Yeah, yeah, not a lot of guys get that.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
He'll join us in just a little bit here on
Broncos Country Tonight on KOA eight fifty am and ninety
four point one FM.
