Speaker 1 (00:00):
We'll have been to a Broncos country tonight. But it's

(00:01):
been all right here with you.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Zach Sieger's back there behind the glass obviously, short show.
Is it is Sea Busman's Basketball Edition. Hope you guys
are staying safe out there. Like I said, with the wind,
h it is it is windy out there. You say
out there, if you listen to the car Man, he'd
be very careful out there. Okay, I just just promised
you guys gonna be careful on the road. We like
all our listeners being able to come back and listen again.

(00:23):
Lots of stuff going on. Try to get to UH
as much as I can, as quick as it can.
Looks like r J Harvey is doing all right with
the ribs. I do expect Cody Trader to play in
this game, but it looks like RJ is doing better
with the ribs, at least during the media visibility portion
of practice. Pat Bryant back, that's a good thing, obviously.
We know navy akins, bed powers, you know, just just

(00:43):
pretty good, pretty good news for the Broncos thus far
as far as as all the injury stuff goes, you know,
people have been asking about the Trader thing, and I've
repeatedly tried to tell him. Look, the Broncos tried to
sign him UDFA when he came out of Missouri. They
tried to put a waiverclaim on him earlier this year.
They so this is this wasn't just about getting intel
on Jacksonville as a player that they've liked for a while.

(01:03):
They wanted to get into the building, and now they do.
I would suspect that rather than supplanting RJ. Harvey, this
puts Tyler Bdey on. Notice his skill set is a
third down back. They're both built the same, you know,
their their skill sets about the same. Trader can catch
well out of the backfield, he can pass bro This
is to me sort of maybe spelling the end for

(01:24):
Tyler Beday as far as that goes.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
So we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I think he's gonna get some you know, we'll see
if he gets to play this weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
If not, he'll play by the end of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
But we'll see where he's at, you know, this weekend,
as I kind of think he may sneak some reps
in this weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
I wouldn't be surprised at all, you know, I am
curious about their you know, infatuation with Cody s Trader,
because when I saw this move, I first thought, you know,
not so much the covering for R j Rvy deal,
but are they trying to get intel?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
You know, Cody Schrader spent a lot of time with
the Jags.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
We had a whole dust up earlier this year between
the Jags and forty nine ers about science, so obviously
that's prevalent when facing the Jaguars.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
And then he goes to the Texans.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Texans are now a trendy pick in the AFC, so
you're maybe getting you know, two pieces of intel for
the price of one. But you, in your opinion, it
sounds like this was more about how much they liked
Straighter than any espionage or anything else. Those are tangential
benefits if you get those. In this particular case, this
was about getting the player. They liked the player, like
I said, when he was coming out of Missouri, they
wanted him UDFA. Broncos also signed Jones today, Nash Joe

(02:29):
Nash Jones out of Texas State, and I talked to
this was somebody I thought the Broncos is going to
be in on.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
During the draft so I went out. I talked to
Texas State head coach TJ. Kenney, got a quote from
him about Nash as a player, and that's up on
my Twitter account if you haven't seen a GJ since,
he's retweeted and all that kind of stuff since.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
But you know, Nashville they like him.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Hey, they thought of him as a versus the offensive
line in nine college, he played all along the line.
In the pros, he's guard, but he's you know, they
bring in national smart guy, strong guy, high character guy,
so and a great athlete. So just just something to
keep your eye on there, as Nash Jales for somebody
that I had kind of circled the name for the
Broncos prior to the draft, and now you find the

(03:10):
last back in their lap.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
And you know, they haven't invested a ton of draft
capital recently in the offensive line, but they have done
a great job hitting on some of those UDFA targets.
Poucheski now played a huge role with the team in
back to back seasons. He was a UDFA out of Illinois.
I'm pretty sure Frank Frank Crumb exactly out of Wyoming
like their top you know, depth offensive lineman, right now

(03:32):
are largely udfas I guess Matt part's the one exception
to that rule, you know, credit to their offensive line.
Scotty Luke Quatnbert two another late round.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Fine, Yeah, so just something to keep your eye on
there as Nash Jales somebody they add today as well,
real quick stuff Broncos Jags. Obviously that'll be here on
KOA kickoffs at two o five, but we'll be we'll
be on the air, you know, all day for you.
Some some scenarios for you guys. The AFC was so
the see West clinching scenario not number one seed, which

(04:02):
by the way, the Broncos are seventy one percent to
get right now, the AFC West clinching scenario, if the
Broncos win against the Jaguars and the Chargers lose or
tie against the Cowboys, then the Broncos would clinch THEFC West.
If the Broncos tie against the Jags and the Chargers
lose against the Cowboys, then the Broncos win the AFC West.

(04:23):
So in either one of those scenarios, the Broncos could
win the AFC West this weekend. Do I think that's
likely to happen?

Speaker 3 (04:28):
No?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
I expect both the Broncos and Chargers to win this weekend.
So but if the Broncos win, the Chargers loose.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Cowboys are a real team though too.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Like I think the Chargers are probably less than four
point favorites in that game. That's definitely going to be,
you know, a game where no one would be surprised.
I guess if the Cowboys win it, I don't think
they'll go as far as clinching the one seed because
they'll need the Browns to knock off the Bill that.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
The one seed stuff is. This is a little bit
this is a little bit more convoluted. You need not
only do you need the Browns to beat the Bills,
you need to see here, you also need sorry, I'm
trying to pull this up as takes.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Afore mentioned Chargers over or Cowboys over Chargers, right, and
then you need the Ravens.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
To beat Patriots Patriots in that one. So that's you know,
those three sem unlikely. I don't think Dallas is going
to beat the Chargers because the Chargers are playing for something.
Dallas is eliminated, and I think Dallas is gonna be
a little bit shorthanded in the game. Will see if
that plays out that way.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Losing Mahomes is huge for this whole convert The Chiefs
losing Mahomes is huge for this whole conversation too, because
that Chiefs game looked very, very tough. Now it looks
very winnable, extremely and that team, you imagine they have
to be deflated with how this season's gone losing Mahomes
all that. If the Broncos win that game, and you
never want to you know, count chickens before they hatch
and all that. If the Broncos could win that game,

(05:45):
they just have to win one of the other two
home against the Chargers, home against the Jags, and they
are guaranteed the one seed. They are guaranteed the division.
Just got to win two of these next three obviously, yes.

Speaker 1 (05:55):
This so you could win the next two. You could
win the Jags in the Chiefs game, and that's it.
Yeah too.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
So by uh, I would say Wednesday, So one week
from tomorrow, the Broncos could have locked up. I mean,
they could do it Sunday, but they could, by the math,
just do it just by continuing to win and not
worrying about anything else next Thursday.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
If you were promised the Broncos will win the division.
Would you rather lock it up this week, you know,
the Chargers lose, Broncos win, and you just don't have
to worry about it anymore. Or would you want the
sweet little vindictiveness of getting to go into Kansas City
on Christmas and have T shirt and hat game in Arrowhead?

Speaker 2 (06:31):
I mean, honestly, like I'm the weird guy, so this
is gonna sound stupid. I would want it to come
down to Week eighteen with the Chargers and beat the
Chargers and get Sean Payton finally on the board against
Jim Harbaugh and the Harball.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
Era in a big weighty spot.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, you know, and there's something about like a playoff
game that's not a playoff game, you know what I mean?
But is there's something about that that whole like Week
eighteen rap.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
You know, as something on the line.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
And because well, let me put to you this way,
the Broncos if they win this Jazz game the Chargers
and they lose to Dallas and clinched, dude, like what
do we do? We could we could be resting starters
for like a month and a half, which I would
not recommend doing because you know, guys, but I'm just saying,
like you could rest starters for I probably wouldn't play
starters in the Chiefs game because it's a Thursday night game. Uh,

(07:15):
And then I turned around to come back and play
them for a half in the Chargers game. Yeah, you know,
just just to keep things up. But I mean, there's
a there's a scenario here. Well, we could be basically
coasting for a month and a half.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
And I think that would maybe be a little concerning
because this team has had like maybe out they're back
against the wall. But this this, you know, no one
believes in us mentality for a while. I don't want
them to maybe have too much cushion to work with.
But it is a really fun position to see the Broncos.
And like he said, seventy one percent at the one seed.
You know, we've got five years now of this model.
Fifty percent of the Super Bowl teams have been one seeds.

(07:48):
It's an extreme advantage like.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
That, especially at Denver in mile high altitude, I mean, commably,
you look around at the other teams that that are
going to be in the playoffs, it's mostly dome teams.
Look Luke around playoft it's mostly dome teams and guys
who might not be super comfortable playing in the elements. Yeah,
you know, on the NFC side, of course, Jared Goff
is the poster child for that, but I think there's

(08:10):
some of that even in the AFC, Like Aaron Rodgers
at this point with his arm and how dink and
dunked that offenses. I know he's playing in Pittsburgh, but
I don't think I want him playing in some.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Icy, cold weather and taking hard rights. Yeah, I mean,
you get the Chargers, that's a dome team. You got
the Texans, a dome team. Possibly the colt Sets a
dome team. You look at Buffalo's a cold team, a
cold weather team, Pittsburgh's an open air cold weather team.
Jacksonville is is not a dome team, but it's it
might as well be. And then you had New England's
and cold weather to It's a pretty pretty pretty interesting

(08:39):
split there as far as that goes. You've got you've
got half these teams that are dome teams. And Trevor Lawrence,
you know, they're an outdoor team. He's notoriously struggled in
the elements. Like whatever, there's precipitation, that ball is all
over the boys, bumbles, interceptions, all of it.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yeah, so interesting, interesting thing.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Jacksonville's a three point dog here and that's gonna be
fascinating once ago.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
I want to get you man, Thank thank goodness.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
So Broncos have got their stadium stuff straight and ownerships
that's got that thing straight.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Got their ducks.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Are you guys see this? I don't know if you
seen the delays on the Bears. Oh no, but the
Chicago Bears have made drastic changes to their new stadium
plans and they are reopening and re expanding their search
to include northwest Indiana.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
We could have the Gary Indiana Bears. It's crazy, the
Gehar Bears. By the time we're done with this thing.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
It's one thing for the San Francisco forty nine ers
to play in Santa Clara, Like that's weird, but you
know whatever, it's a different thing to be playing across
state lines.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
I'd be the Gary Indiana Bears.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Bears president Vin Warren announced the team's latest stadium plans
and a letter of season ticket holders today. Sports Illustrator
got a hold of it and it says, quote consequently,
in addition to Arlington Park, we need to expand our
search and critically evaluate opportunities through the wider Chicago land region,
including northwest Indiana.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
This is not about leverage. It's about leverage.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
We spent years trying to build a new home in
Cook County. We investigated, we invested significant time and resources,
evaluated multiple sites, and rationally decided on Arlington Hearts Heights.
Our fans deserve a world class stadium. Our players and
coaches deserve a venue that matches the championship standard they strive.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
For every day.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
With that in mind, our organization must keep every credible
pathway open to deliver that future. The Bears of College
Chicago home for more than a century, and one certainly
is that our commitment to the city won't change. However,
we will continue to provide a wavering support of the community.
We need a world class venue. The Bears are a
founding franchise playing the oldest and smallest stadium in the NFL.

(10:33):
But our goal is clear moving forward, build a world
class football team that as a world class stadium.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
You know, yeah, this is this.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
The phivot comes after the team's uphill battle with Illinois
lawmakers to gain tax breaks and in eight hundred and
fifty five million dollars in public funding to build a
new stadium in Arlington Heights and the best happen in Chicago.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
More than one hundred years. I mean they were founded as.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
The Stalees back in nineteen twenty and became the Bears
in nineteen twenty two, but moving the team to Indiana
for home game James is now basically planned c for
the Bears. After multiple attempts to keep the Bears in Chicago.
Marc Ganis, who's a sports consultant, has helped with the
developmental plans, and he said Indiana put together a stadium authority.
Legislature passed the Stadium Authority for Northwest Indiana try to
track teams from Chicago, clearly thinking about the Bears and

(11:16):
potentially the White Sox. Those would be options since there
are no other options offered for the city of Chicago.
I don't even know what to do with this. What
in a cosmic cluster, you know what? By everybody involved
here and thankfully we don't have to have the public
if we got rich owners and we don't have to
have the public funding. But they need eight hundred and

(11:37):
something million in public funding, which taxpayers don't want to do,
but they do want to keep the team, and Indiana's like, hey,
we're creed. We're sitting here with arms wide open.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Ownership is the gift that keeps on giving for the
Denver Broncos and the tortuous punishment that keeps on serving
up paying to you know, Bears fans. We were just
talking about the Bengals and Joe Burrow wanting out of there,
like it just pops up over and over again, and
I don't think it is. You know, if you look
at the Broncos since like nineteen seventy, they've been a

(12:09):
pillar of you know, consistency and like you're getting nine
wins the season every year except for the weird little
pocket where ownership was unsettled, and then you get you
get the same thing now when when ownership is settled,
it turns the exact opposite way around and they're now
one of the like proudest franchises in the NFL. Again,

(12:31):
it's just, you know, you can as a fan base
cause enough of an uproar that you can push a
head coach out, you can push a GM out, you
can you know, demand to change a quarterback or getting
rid of whatever XYZ player ownership you're typically stuck with
for decades upon decades, if not forever. And you know
it's early returns, but the early returns look tremendously promising

(12:52):
for the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Yeah, and this is.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Fascinating, just when the Bears got some sign of signs
of life after you know, they got Ben Johnson and
there they're ten and four now kind of a little
bit on FraudWatch there one and three in the division,
but they're ten and four on the season, and they've
managed to keep themselves in the in the playoff hunts,
certainly at ten and four.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
But I just, I mean, it's baffling to me that
you let this thing get to this point now in
your stadium process, that you're having to pull out of
what you thought was, you know, what you thought you
were going to do, and are now leveraging Gary Indiana
against Chicago in an attempt to get a stadium deal done. Yeah,
that statement, the public memo was so ridiculous, Like nothing

(13:31):
screams a pursuit of excellence like moving the Chicago Bears
to Gary, Indiana. Like they talked all about the players
and the coaches and we have to make sure we're
doing right by them and getting them a facility that
matches their championship standers. I guarantee you Caleb Williams and
Ben Johnson would much rather get to go to work
in Chicago every day than you know, drive an hour

(13:52):
out of town to Gary, Indiana.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
I just that's.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Like it floored me reading all this stuff. And you
guys can can read it. You can read all about
it out. It's all out there right now. But I
mean that one of all the things I didn't see coming.
I didn't see that one coming the most.

Speaker 3 (14:09):
Gary Indiana, which if you've ever been to Gary, Indiana,
you know, I.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Just think of the music man.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I lived in Chicago for a
couple of years when I was very young. I don't
I don't know what to do with that Gary Indiana,
which is just around the coasts as you go around
the lake. You know, it's like an hour drive or whatever,
bit outside of Chicago.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
But it's I mean, it is not the nicest place
that gives like Green Bay vibes where you're like, you know,
if if the NFL were to start today, there's no
way one of the thirty two teams would be in
Green Bay, Wisconsin, like this tiny little suburb in northern Wisconsin.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
There's no way the team would be in Gary, Indiana.
But here we are have to say.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
It'd be like if the Denver Broncos couldn't reach a
stadium agreement, and with all due respect to the city,
decided to move to Pueblo or.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Even like it's worse like Pueblo, I could at least like, okay,
well it's in Colorado. You know. It's like if they
moved to Cheyenne, Well, okay, yeah, that's probably a better
honestly live it the Salt Lake Broncos. Yeah, but they
still called themselves the Denver Broncos. That'd be so annoying. Yeah,
but still still calling themselves the Denver Broncos. Moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
That's what that's the that's the local equivalent of It

(15:20):
feels like relocation.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Like I know technically it won't be.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
But if you're a Chicago Bears fan that's had season
tickets for however long, and now all of a sudden
you're looking at an hour, probably with traffic, multi hour
long drive to Gary, Indiana every Sunday, that's a that's
a tough build to swallow.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Yeah, I just I don't know, fascinating fascinating stuff five
six six nine zeros text line real quick. I hit
a couple of these. Somebody asked if I'd rather build
a team around bow Nicks or Trevor Lawrence. I mean,
I think you're probably going with bo on that. I mean,
I would like Trevor Lawrence is you know, I mean,
he's got a you know, he's got some athleticism to
him's a decent size and all that. I'm not trying

(15:56):
to knock Trevor Lawrence, but I think we've got enough
ape on Trevor Lawnce and know what he is and
isn't ball.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
I think we're still I don't think we've reached the ceiling.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Lawrence has demonstrated more like sustained inconsistency where both maybe
been up and down some, but he's a young quarterback.
It's generally upwards where Lawrence has been all over the place.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Yeah, it's and that's probably the safest and best way to.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
To say that Sea Muff Men's Basketball Portland State are
here in Ka.

Speaker 2 (16:40):
Back here with you again. Post Sea Buffs Men's Basketball
Windy Edition. I appreciate you guys being along fourth ride.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
It is.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Be careful out there if you're in your car or
whatever and you're you're listening to this thing, man, be
careful out there.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
It's it's rough as far as everything else goes. All
in all, pretty good news today for the Broncos. Bronco's
back at practice today and good news as I said

(17:16):
across the board here.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
R J.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
Harvey, who had been nursing sore ribs, was out there
at the media available portion of practice, so that that
bodes pretty well. Looks like a good sign for this weekend,
at least early on that he's that he's pretty recovered.
Head coach Sean Payton said he wouldn't worried about it,
so that bodes well. The Broncos of course claimed Cody
Schrader off waivers. Uh, he's on the active roster now

(17:41):
if r J. Harvey is good to go. You know,
everybody I talked to over there thinks pretty highly a
Cody Schrader. In fact, they put in a previous waiver
claim for him, just wasn't high enough to get him.
I think they want to play it, which means that
Tyler Beiday is probably on some pretty thin eyes because
Cody Schrader's skill set is a third down back type

(18:04):
skill set. You know, he's he's in that same build
as R. J. Harvey and Bedet where they're you know,
five eight to five ten two five in terms of
the you know, the height, weight, you know, and all
that kind of stuff. But Trader catches well out of
the backfield and he's kind of got that third down
skill set. So it'll be interesting, you know, to see
if he gets any run in this upcoming Jacksonville Jaguars game.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
Pat Bryant back at it. He should be good to
go in this game. Barring any reaggravation between now and then.
I think every rightys, Brandon Jones done for the year,
So that's not you know, that's not necessary anymore.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
I get a lot of questions, and we talked about.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
This, you know, extensively, but I'll say it again for
those who have missed it in other shows because they
keep getting asked, could the Broncos go bring in Justin Simmons?
And as much as I would love the Broncos to
do that with this head coach, I don't believe that'll
be a thing, and I don't want to delve too
much deeper into that. I'll just leave that at that,

(19:00):
But I will say I do not believe that that
will be a thing.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
PJ.

Speaker 2 (19:03):
Lock will start this Sunday, Devon Key will be his backup,
and you'll have Jail Skinner be the third option there.
He's still a special teams guy, but he'll be the
third option as far as all that stuff is concerned.
So to answer that question, no, I do not believe

(19:24):
that Denver Broncos will go out and get Justin Simmons.
I believe that Justin can play, and I believe that
he would play, and I believe he would play for
the Broncos, but I believe he would play for the
right number. I don't think he's going out there for
vet minimum and a one year, you know, moving for
six months to a place and and hopping around at
the end of his career like that.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
I don't think that that he's interested in that. But
you know, he could still play in this league, and
and you know there are several teams that that could
probably use him, especially down the stretch here. But you know,
he also had to pony up a little bit. He's
not you know, I mean, he's home with his family.
You know, you can't just be like here, here's vet minimum,
come get off the couch and you know, throw the

(20:03):
pads back on, put your body back through it. And
I don't want to speak for Justin, but you know
that's just that's my belief on the situation, you know,
as it as it sits right now. And I will
say that as far as you know, everything goes PJ.
Lock is definitely going to be first man up and

(20:24):
the starter as well. One other name out there that
I keep getting asked about, Alan Lizard, was let go
by the Jets, but I think he's going to go
to the Steelers. He cleared waivers, nobody, nobody claimed him,
so he will.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
Become a free agent.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Lazar did not waive his right determination pay in order
to seg here his release, so he will be entitled
to recover the remaining was it two hundred and ninety
one thousand, six hundred and sixty seven dollars or so
of his one point seventy five million base salary from
the Jets.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
He'll also be able to keep whatever he makes.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
Elsewhere without any kind offset, so you know, good for him.
Lazard spent five seasons in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers.
Of course, then he signed with the Jets in twenty
twenty three, the same offseason which Rogers was traded There,
Lazard renegotiated his contract to stayed with the Jets in
lieu of being released and then and so now he's
free and clear, and he can join the Steelers or

(21:21):
any other team. I guess that he wants to, but
he's widely expected to go to Pittsburgh. The Broncos, of course,
had had some interest in Alan Lazard prior to him
signing with the Jets, but I think that interest is
I don't want to say it's long gone, but I
just don't believe that same interest is there. I think
the Broncos are set with what they've got. I think

(21:43):
they like their own roster.

Speaker 3 (21:45):
That's what I try to tell people this offseason when
there was you know, these internet accounts that were sitting
there trying to claim we were going to go after
Cooper Copper or whatever, which was never a thing.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
So you know, I think that's I think that's where
that sits. Overall, one of the teams that's going to
be searching for a new head coach is the Tennessee Titans.
Of course, everybody already knows that there are going to
be several other, you know, teams that will be firing
head coaches here shortly, but right now that's one of
two teams that we know for sure. And Titans quarterback

(22:17):
Cam Ward came out today and said that he's spoken
to the president of Football Operations who's Chad Brinker, and
general manager of Mike Borganzi about wanting to be involved
from the first step in the process of finding Brian
Callahan's permanent replacement. No Ward said his interest is not
in discussing scheme or finding a coach to vote to

(22:38):
the offensive side of the ball, but help find someone
who can build a successful foundation for the franchise. And
he came out and said, quote, I want to meet
all of them, every coach who's going to get the
opportunity to come here, I want to meet them, have
conversations without the whole process with them. That's something that
I'm going to be here with for that time. So
we got to just continue to me being around and
being open to it no matter who we try to hire,

(23:00):
because I know at the end of the day who
we do hire is going to be the right fit
for us, whether it's a defensive person, offensive person. We're
going to make sure that every person's in the right
place and make sure every person is set up for success,
you know. Twenty twenty four first overall pick KAYLEB. Williams,
his head coach get fired during disappointing first season. But
the Bears obviously have rebounded with better results under Ben

(23:22):
Johnson this season. But I don't know, I don't know
how I feel about that. You get You've got a
quarterback who's going to be a second year quarterback that's
sitting here saying I want to interview these guys like
you know, I don't know he's this guy's not here
to be your buddy, he's there to be your coach.
And you know, I think I think somebody whose job hinges,

(23:43):
you know, the general manager job hinges on making the
right higher The quarterback may or may not outlast the
higher especially if he plays well. I get it, sort
of wanting to get your pulse on this, but I
don't know if I'm the Titans.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
To me, that feels like a circus.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
And I've seen and we've seen four where you know,
other quarterbacks have said they want to be involved in
the process and all that, and it's never turned out well.
Right when the quarterbacks have gotten their way on that
kind of stuff, it's never turned out well. You can
look at Baker with Freddie Kitchens. I mean, that was
a disaster.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
You know.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
There have been multiple instances where quarterbacks have said I
want to be involved in this process, and it has
it has always been an almost an unmitigated disaster. So
I don't I don't know if cam Ward really, you know,
a guy who's got one year in this league and
showed maybe a few flashes.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
But isn't.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
But it isn't somebody who's cemented as a franchise.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Guy by by any stretch. I I don't know. I
just I find I find it.

Speaker 2 (24:49):
I found it fascinating, and I've kind of befuddled that
the Titans would put this up on their own website,
which they did. They're in house website with with cam
Ward saying that it's a it's a bad look for
in my opinion. I mean, I get it from the
quarterback's position, you know, but at the same time, like
this dude has to coach you and hold you accountable,

(25:13):
So you interviewing him would be a weird dynamic, right,
I mean, end of the day, if you're the Tennessee Titans, like,
what are we doing here? Your general manager has to
make that decision because he's holding that coach accountable, and
so he needs to pick a guy that that he
thinks is best to lead. But I mean, and I
guess having a conversation or a dinner with the quarterback

(25:34):
be one thing, but having him in for like all
the interviews. I don't know, man, I And maybe I'm
on this too long.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
It's just one of those things I look at I'm like,
what are we you know, what are we doing here? This?
This feels weird. I just don't understand why you would
why you would do that when we have a definitive
history of this being a bad idea. Josh Weinfuss of
ESPN dot Com talk to Arizona head coach John Gannon,

(26:02):
and Gannon sort of has a, I guess a beef
regarding the ability to teach his defensive players how to
properly tackle during games. So he attributed the tackling woes
two rules that make it hard to practice tackling, saying,
how the rules are set up, it's hard to get
better as a tackler being in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (26:22):
I'll say that.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Gannon said the Cardinals have tackling drills in some way,
shape or form, because it's one of the top skills
of any defensive player.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
He said, there's no drill you can do.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
The can mimic a game, and it all traces, in
Gannon's view, the rules that make it harder to teach
him practice tackling. It's set up how it's set up.
That's fine quote. But to get better at a skill,
you have to practice the skill. You practice the skill.
You can scale it, you can scale the tempa, you
can scale how you do it, But to practice the skill,
you need to practice the skill.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
And of course the rules.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Change is first emerged with the twenty eleven CBA negotiations,
when when owners close the deal by agreeing to various
terms that ultimately cost the league no money, like reduced
padded practices and other changes to the non game workload.
But I mean, he's right, and he's not the only
coach to be saying this, but he's the guy right now.

(27:12):
That's the focal point of that it came out and said,
and so it's a conundrum. I think all defensive guy's
face there's risk reward to trying to practice it with
however you set things up, you definitely have to be
good tackling defense in order to play good defense. The
counterpoints to all this, I guess for John Gannon is
that the rules are the same for all teams.

Speaker 1 (27:29):
The rules have been.

Speaker 2 (27:30):
Restricted for what fifteen seasons now, so plenty of teams
have managed to teach their guys how to tackling games.
Are fine players that don't need specific drills to know
how to do it at the professional level. You know,
I don't know that the Cardinals can blame that on
that tackling, blocking, everything else that goes into winning football.
They collectively haven't had enough. This year started off too

(27:51):
and one going one and eleven cents, which you know
puts Gannon in a bad position when the season ends
here in about eighteen days. But I mean he has
a point in the sense that, you know, everybody agrees
that there's just not enough time to do everything you
need to do. I just think that there is.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
I mean, if you see other teams doing it, though,
then you have to ask yourself, Okay, well these teams
are getting done, why aren't you? And that that's sort
of that's sort of the problem there. The Pooka nakoua thing.
I don't know if you guys saw this one or not.
Rams receiver Pooka Nakua's probably gonna be hearing in full
league office here early soon. He recently made critical comments

(28:35):
about NFL game officials during a live stream with two
guys that are like famous streamers or whatever. And I
watch this and I don't I don't get it.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Maybe I'm an old whatever, but I don't understand what
people even watch these this particular streamer. It's not good,
or at least what I saw wasn't good. But Nicola
got on there.

Speaker 3 (28:57):
Nikola has I mean, you know, for people who don't know,
he's got a bit of reputation for being imature. He
had some some baby Mama drama with his long time
now not partner and the way that he handled that
was not good. And he's kind of got a reputation
behind the scenes that he needs to grow up a
little bit. But he h he got on there on

(29:21):
this live stream after trying to sneak these guys into
RAMS practice, uh, into RAMS facility and then getting shut
down by head coach Sean McVay.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
He said, the refs are the worst. These guys are lawyers.
They want to be on TV too. You don't think
he's texting his friends in the group chat like Yo,
you guys just saw me on Sunday Night Football, Like
that wasn't p I like, but I called it. I mean,
these guys are normal human beings. One of the hosts
mentioned that Nicole could be fine for saying what he said.
And he said and he acknowledge it, said it one

(29:51):
hundred percent. But you, I mean, you started with the
refs of the worst. The NFL's find multiple players in
the pastor are criticizing it officiating. The league find Texas
running back Joe Mixon like twenty five grand for something
he didn't even say, and then try to find him
for something that he did say and that didn't stick.

(30:12):
But there's a there's a league wide sensitive due the criticism,
and you know that serves only a highlight the basis
I guess for the criticism, but you know, the officials
make mistakes and the league far too often is not
transparent about that. And then you know, the effort to
circle the wagons by imposing fines on those who questioned
the officiating makes everybody else suspicious regarding the possibility that

(30:35):
mistakes aren't really mistakes. And that's where you get, you know,
all these people saying it's rigged, and it's one of
the reasons the league hated gambling before it realized how
much money it could make from it, you know. And
then there's the practical impact of his criticism. Starting tomorrow night,
we'll all find out, you know, to what extend will
get calls from these same people that he told the

(30:55):
world are the worst. You know, I've had more than
plenty of problems with officiating, but getting on a live
stream and then saying, matter of factully that the referees
are just trying to get FaceTime on television. We all
make jokes about that, but we're not serious because it's
not serious. You know that that's not a real thing.
Those dudes are out there trying to do their best

(31:16):
to officiate. The problem is is, you know, we've got
a we've got a complex rule book that that that
is too subjective in some areas, and we need to
streamline that entire process, and you know, that's been something
that we haven't done. We haven't done well, and we
would do better doing. Probably could use a sky judge
too that can buzz down on some stuff, but the
league has been reticent to do that. And so I

(31:38):
think there's a lot to this, But the combination of
years one Poomingakua has got to get his act to get.
You keep be trying to sneak live streamers into the
RAMS facility because they paid you to be on their
live stream. You know, some guy what's this guy's named
Adan Ross or whatever, you know, and he's paying the
kool like a million dollars to come on there because
he knows we get the bump in traffic and go.

Speaker 1 (31:59):
Viral at all this I don't know.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
One today, I'm gonna have to have you guys explain
this live stream and stuff to me because these dudes
like this, I don't know, not entertaining to me. I
didn't see anything that was uh And I would tell you,
like if I liked it, I tell you, but this
is if and and what's Nicole even doing it in
the first place and then making, you know, dumb comments
like that.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
You know, I don't know what what he What are
you doing there?

Speaker 3 (32:20):
You're gonna wind up getting yourself in trouble and for
what you know, what's the doing a cost benefit analysis
there is? You know, as a player, you gotta be
smarter and that's something that Nikoua needs his circle to
get his ear because this isn't the first time he's
done done something that's you know, not malicious, but boneheaded

(32:41):
as far as that goes. Packers placed edge rusher Michael
Parsons on IR.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Which was a formality at this point. We knew that
he tore the a c L and the left knee obviously,
and the loss to the Broncos and he's he's about
to undergo so he's an ending surgery. You're talking about
nine months minimum of rehab for him. And we all
saw the knee on the non contact play late in
the third quarter trying to change directions chasing bow. You know,

(33:07):
Parsons finished his season with twelve and a half sacks,
twelve tackles for lost, twenty six k hits, two forced fumbles.
Prior to this, he only missed five games his career,
and one of those was because of a positive a
COVID test, so you know, the ram the ramps. The
Packers are obviously a little devastated by that. It kind
of hurts them because we saw in the game. You know,

(33:27):
we saw it in that game. And now there's not
any one play or any one player that causes a
team to win or lose a game. But the Packers
pass rush was significantly lessened by the absence of Michael Parsons.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
You could see it.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
The BONICKX was Bonix was kind of dicing them up before,
but he really carved him up after there was no Parsons.
I mean, you just there was no stopping him at
that point, and so I mean you could you could
see it. He was getting the time not to be
flushed and flustered and and all that kind of stuff.
And there's the Packers kind of abandoned their ground game
to start throwing or just played right into the Broncos
hands in that one. So something to uh, something to

(34:05):
keep our eye on high this Jacksonville team, you know,
crack the tape on it a little bit. They don't
look like they can get after it even the way
the Packers did. So we'll get into that. Uh, we'll
get into that tomorrow. On Friday. Appreciates you guys. Beat
along for the ride. Broncos Country Tonight,
