Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm your guest host Grant Smith felling them for Benjamin
Albright as he was on KOA Sports earlier today. Alongside
I got Nick ferguson Zach Seekers behind the glass.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
What are you eating over there?

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Nick? A little soup, little Minnestroni. You know what, How
did you know what type of souper was?

Speaker 4 (00:18):
I saw the meatball and I was like, that's There's.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Not many soups with meatballs, but Minnestroni is a good one.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
You know.

Speaker 5 (00:26):
Typically I would not eat Minnestroni soup, but my daughter
prepared it for me, so I was like, what the heck?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
So it's not bad.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Shout out to your daughter. Yes, shout out to my
mat Sure you're you're fed before you You got a
three hour show.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
She's trying to butter me up for Christmas. Smart moon.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
That's a smart daughter right there. We got a big
show tonight. We got Ryan Conensberg coming on at six thirty.
Remased us our favorite going to join us in the
eight o'clock hour. Big weekend for the Broncos, another huge
game coming off that big win against the Packers, and
another tough opponent this week, the Jacksonville Jaguars before.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
We get to our preview of that.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
And I've got some good sound from some Broncos players
and coaches where I can get to later in the show.
I did this last week when I was hosting with you,
and I want to get your thoughts. I gave you
my best sound of the week last week, and it
was Fernando Mendoza's interview after they won the Big Ten
championship game and him just losing his mind, looking straight
into the camera like he was a TV professional, not

(01:26):
looking at the interviewer at all.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
This also from college football.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
We got the college football playoff happening this weekend. This
is John Summrall talking about why he's still donating to
the Tulane nil even though he.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Has taken over the job at Florida.

Speaker 6 (01:43):
My wife and I back two months ago, made the
decision to do this. So I was doing this, if
I say, and then when I decided in twenty twenty six,
I'm gonna be the coach at a different school. I
me and my wife, you know, if you know us,
we go on walks every day a rafter practice, typically
for about half an hour or so. We can make
sure we stay married and actually know each other, what's

(02:04):
going in the.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Real world with each other, and I don't know.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
A couple of weeks ago and all this kind of
started to unfold with twenty twenty six maybe.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Looking different for us. One of the things we talked
about is like, hey, we still want to do this.

Speaker 6 (02:18):
I'll be honest with you. I told the administration I
still wanted to do that. Barring there hired a coach
that approved of okay, and so if it hired some schmuck,
I probably wuldn't have kept doing it. But they hired
Will Hall, who I have great respect for. Will has
been on our staff last year. Have coached against Will
a long time, so I want to see Will have

(02:39):
continued success.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And I would say this too. This place, the university,
the city.

Speaker 6 (02:46):
Has meant the world to me and my family always
will like always will. And so for us, the fact
that we're not going to be here next year doesn't
change that we're two Lane fans, We're we're New Orleanians,
like this is home in a lot of ways.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
My two oldest kids were born here, so.

Speaker 6 (03:06):
You know, and I've talked a lot about when you
leave a place that matters how you leave it just
as much as how you enter.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
I want to leave on good terms and I want to.

Speaker 6 (03:15):
Be able to come back in twenty years to celebrate
this team that's won a championship already together and not
be like, oh, the way you walked out the building
was kind of questionable.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
I want them to go many dinner the right way.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
And so I want to see two Lane get better
after I leave. I want to see it continue to
grow after I.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Leave for my family. Wach. I don't want to. I'm
not I'm hoping for more. I don't want this to
be the end of anything. Want to to continue to
build upon this.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
That John Summer all talking about why he's donating to
the nil Too Lane even though he's leaving that school,
the program he has built up these past couple of
years for the Florida job, What do you think of
those comments or him? I the one that really stuck out,
well two of them for me. The one where he said,
you want to leave a place better than you found
it pretty much summon it up there and then also

(04:02):
taking walks with his wife so he knows what's happening
in the real world. We know how much time these
coaches put in on the college and pro level, but
it's taking time every day to spend with his wife to.

Speaker 4 (04:12):
Make sure they stay connected and married.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
In his words, well, you know what first.

Speaker 5 (04:17):
And foremost is to speak to the part of the
connection with his wife. The job of being a coach
on the pro level, collision level, it's really tough. More so,
I would say on the collegiate level, because on the
collision level, I mean you're recruiting. On the pro game,
you don't have to recruit. You have scouts, pro scouts,
college scouts.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
They do that.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
They bring all the information back to you to give
you all the reports and then you start diagnosing.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
You watching tape. The ability to be able to recognize
your family in that process and walk with your wife
and not just see.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
What's happening in the world, in the space, because you
don't want to disconnect, and that can happen sometimes, yes
it can, but that keeps you grounded being around your wife,
because sometimes some coaches get so far out aheady skis
that they venture over into butthole world and their wives

(05:11):
are ready to riel them back in and say, no,
you are a real person. You don't have to act
this way, and act ass an eye right and act
like a donkey's ass. But yes, and where your wife
can actually bring you back.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
But I'm of the fact of saying, Okay, well you
going to another.

Speaker 5 (05:29):
Institution, but you understand where the institution you're coming from.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
They laid the foundation to.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
Where you're moving to now, and you're not willing to
forget that right and all the people and the fans
that came along with it, and you're looking to steal,
you know, pour into that institution because at one point
they poured into you.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
So for me, for a coach leaven one spot going
into the next, I'm happy about that.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
If I'm an athletic director, i'm a fan or a player,
because I know that player or that coach rather is
going to pour into me the same way he poured
into the guys in the institution where he's coming from.
So I like this, and that wish Grant more coaches
were like this.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Yeah, I mean, you got to feel pretty pretty excited
if if you're a Florida fan or a Florida player,
the fat guy coming in and speaking like that about
the place he's leaving, I mean, I don't know if
it feels kind of like Apple's orange is comparing that
to Lane Kiffin. But that's immediately what I thought of
was the way that Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss and
went to LSU and now ole Miss of course playing Tulane.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
In the College Football Playoff.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
But it's just like, it's so so drastically different. It's
a one to eighty from the messaging from Lane Kiffin
to what we just heard from John Summrall.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
Well, okay, well, it's always different looking at someone's position. Well,
you're on the outside looking in and looking at lane
Kiffin's situation. A lot of people got upset with him.
Why did he leave? It's just like, look, you were
at Ole Miss for a while, maybe you took them
as far as that you can take them, and everyone

(07:04):
and people kind of look at this and try to say, no,
I wouldn't do this, And every person who says that,
I say, you're lying, because everyone is in a position
or moving in a position where they want to be
better than what they were two days ago, two months ago.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
If you're not, you're not growing.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
So I don't know a single coach who's not not
to say that he's in his current position looking forward
to the next one. But if you do well in
one position, people gonna come after you. So when they do,
what are you supposed to do? And in that case,
if you're Elaine Kiffin knowing as though you look at
where Old Miss is as a program, you look at
where Lshu is, And if you take what you build

(07:45):
and the culture you build an Old Miss and you
take it to Lshue.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
And maybe your quarterback, yeah, guess what that's gonna take you?

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Right, I mean that's a go for everyone, right, Just
like to keep moving upward on that upward trajectory.

Speaker 5 (07:58):
You know, here's the thing that gets me sometimes is
that people start counting other people's pockets. Right, well, here's
what you already accomplished, and here's what you already did,
so you should be somewhat satisfied with that and now
seeking to get more. It was like, well, I don't
know about you, but more is always better than less.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
That's why you make appearances on the up and Adams podcast.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Well, you know, always looking for that next opportunity.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
Once again, based on where I grew up and the
things that I went through, the idea is that you're
always trying to ascend, right, Agree, If you are not
trying to get better at your craft for what you do,
whether you're doing this job, you're a coach, you're a teacher,
you're a politician.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
Hell if your parent or a husband, what are you doing?

Speaker 1 (08:52):
I mean, that's my biggest fear in life is staying
in the same place forever and having the same mindset forever.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Okay, but then.

Speaker 5 (08:58):
Yes, and I totally understanding, because are you getting better?
Like sometimes individuals get in a space where they feel safe.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Everyone loves the safe zone.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
I don't safe as dangerous safe, It.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Is dangerous for me.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
It's all about challenging yourself to put to get to
that next level. Right, Because I could have stayed at
an HBCU school and said, well, I'm all.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Good, I got my college paid for. Everyone loves me,
run the star on campus, and.

Speaker 3 (09:27):
I'm saying, you know what, know this more to life.
I need to push myself.

Speaker 5 (09:32):
I need to get outside of my comfort zone and
put myself in a position where.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
I'm testing myself.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
Right, So transferring to Georgia Tech, no scholarship. You just
out there butt naked right in those scholarships and you
have to earn your way. And for me, it's like
I want to test myself and see if I'm worthy.
But sometimes in life people try to hold you back
right from whatever, and this.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Is the way I think from God's blessing. Right, but
if you.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
Settle, when you rest on your lorels, you're never gonna
get there. Just like when we look at where the
different Broncos are, right and the fan base, the ownership.
The coaches said, oh, man, just get into the playoffs
against Buffalo.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
That was good enough, great first step.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
Yes, but it's like no, it's once you see that
what you're capable of and what you can't.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
Achieve, you should want more, not less.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
And if someone's telling you to settle for less, hey man,
those are not your people, does.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Not make you think.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
I mean, for me, My mind immediately went to bow Knicks,
like everyone has told him what he can't do.

Speaker 4 (10:44):
Yes, since he's gotten into the NFL.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I mean hell, even in college, you know, like he
had to leave the college that he loved that his
dad played at, yes, and go somewhere else for people
to recognize how good he was to become a first
round draft pick. And then he gets into the NFL
and everyone says, oh, he's succeeding because he's in the
Sean Payton offense. He's just another guy, you know, a jag,
but he is proving over and over again. I mean

(11:08):
that game against the Packers, it's just like I think
that's when the national media finally.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Took notice, like, oh, we get.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
What these people are saying in Denver now, like this
isn't just another guy. This dude can be a franchise quarterback.
He already says all the right things, he does all
the things off the field, and now the on the
field product is living up to the to the billing.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
As well like he was he had.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
He put on a masterclass in that second half against
the Packers. Like we were watching that game in the
first half and Jordan Love, You're like, damn, this dude,
this just looks like, yeah, he's on today. Like he's
not missing a throw, he's thrown off his back foot.
And then we see the plays from Bow in the
second half, that that little throw when he was rushing
out to the side and the guy on Troy Franklin
looked back into the backfield. He's that Bow and then

(11:52):
Bo just flips it to Troy Franklin. I'm like that
that is a high that's high level awareness that not
many players outside of Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson
and Joe Burrow make you.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Know what they call that? What it's a dirty word
around here. Well they come, so get ready to wipe
your mouth. They called that backyard foot ball.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Another play backyard football. This one made me think of
you when I was when I was listening to it
on Dave's McAll on Sunday against the Packers.

Speaker 7 (12:21):
Packers rush forward, Nicks in the pocket, now flush, now stops,
comes back and runs with the left, Bowl pumps throws
on the run pass pot, Little Jordan.

Speaker 3 (12:31):
Humphrey spins out of a tackle. He's got a first
down of the Packer forty six. There's a little bit
of that Bowl Knips magic on that play.

Speaker 7 (12:40):
Twenty two yards on the pass he started right and
then stopped, came back left and then threw across his body.
A little Jordan Humphrey with a leaping completion.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
And little Jordan Humphrey on KOA Sports earlier today. You
can find that interview at Kacolorado dot com on the
free and redesigned iHeartRadio app. But good for little Jordan Humphrey.
But you heard it in Dave's call. There like a
little bit of that bon Nix magic. And that's what
I think Sean Payton has let finally, against all of
his I want to keep it, you know, very regimented

(13:17):
on his offensive scheme, he's finally letting that go a
little bit more.

Speaker 4 (13:20):
And we're seeing the fruits of that, Like we're.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Seeing the success the off schedule plays and how much
that can break the back of a defense.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
It definitely stretches a defense out then because you think
that you're playing zone with your eyes on the quarterback.
You've done every single thing right, and then all of
a sudden he breaks the pocket, he makes the off
schedule play and the improvisation is what we are seeing.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
Now.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
Bo was not doing something that we've never seen any
of the quarterback do, but he is doing what it
comes natural to him.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Now.

Speaker 3 (13:56):
I don't think it's a thing.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
Of you know, this is just for me watching the game,
not Sean calling these plays, you know, just to accentuate
Bo's ability. This is Bo doing this all by himself.
Because the play that you're talking about, the play you
just played that wasn't called in a huddle.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Okay, We're gonna run around and scramble on three and
I'm gonna find you. Ready, you know that's not what
that was. There was.

Speaker 5 (14:21):
There was a chaster play call and Bo's looking down
the field. He can't find anyone, so he said, well,
let me run. But he didn't run to break the
line of scrimmage. He ran parallel to the line of
scrimmage and then backed back, drawing the defense like a
mons to flame. And then Troy was just like, uh,
maybe I should run, Maybe you should, And then Bull

(14:43):
there it is.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
There's so much of that play in the NFL right now.

Speaker 5 (14:48):
And for me and he coaches and he players at
the quarterback position who embrace it, I mean, you're gonna
see a certain level of success. And for me, I
want to see Bo do this more because they're not
gonna be plays grant call where this design quarterback runs.
It's like, dude, pocket breaks down. There's pressure, you see it.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Take it. But also no one as though.

Speaker 5 (15:12):
The defense is gonna think that you're a runner, because
would you do so? It's gonna take them off their spot.
And this is where the evolution of the game should happened.
For the Broncos offense, whether you're tied end the wide receiver,
win your quarterback noting as though you have a mobile quarterback,
starts to break the pocket, you keep running.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yeah, he's gonna find you.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
And I think that's the evolution of Bo nixt from
year one to year two. I mean, we saw some
incredible runs from him last year, like when things broke
down in the pocket, he took off and used his
legs to get what he could. But now this year,
he's keeping his eyes down field when he's when he's
scrambling like you just said, like he's able to not
only break down the defense and get away from the rush,

(15:53):
but he's also drawing those eyes in from the defenders
and then throwing.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
It right over top of them.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Seemed like every time he's saying this to uh Sean Payton,
I'm the captain now and and and I love every
aspect of it, because even though Bo is in his
second year, you can see him, man, you can see
him stepping up in the way and then from an
emotional standpoint where we didn't see Russell's stand up because

(16:20):
last week, third player of the game, the Broncos had
to take a time out and the first thing Bo
did was look over to the sideline throw his hands up, like, Yo,
what we're doing over there? And that is what you
want to see from your quarterback. And I think that
type of mentality is what I guess Sean Payton fees into, right,

(16:42):
because there's nothing wrong with a little conflict, right, there's
nothing nothing wrong with a little comfort, you see, it's
healthy conflict. And you know, I'm even changed the word.
I'm gonna change the word because conflict.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
Sounds like it's it's it's I'll call engaging conversation.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
There, you go there, you like that, and sometimes you
can get he spirited.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Spirited, highly engaging conversation five six six nine zero The
Common spiritl text line. If you want to get involved
in the show from the seven seven to five, appreciate you, Nick. Now,
give David Goggins a call and go spend a week
with him, and then you'll really appreciate pushing yourself. I
don't know if I ever want to push myself to
the David Goggins level.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
You know who he is, No, I don't.

Speaker 1 (17:26):
So he's like he's an ex Navy seal and he's
something he does the craziest stuff. I'll say, Okay, a
different word I wanted to use there. But he does
just a lot of crazy stuff. He like he's famous
for this poet. He's like, who's going to lift the boat?
We're all going to raise the boat. We're all going
to do it. And he like does these extreme fitness challenges, runs,

(17:50):
ultra marathons and stuff.

Speaker 5 (17:51):
And I'll just raise my hand to say, do we
have any woods who leverage the boat?

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Can we use our brains here instead of just pure
from the tree.

Speaker 2 (18:01):
One four.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
I think this is a good point.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
First of all, I agree Bo did a lot of
things well, but there were is Benjamin alm right textan
and we got.

Speaker 4 (18:08):
Rid of the wet blankets night. But there were three throws.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
That should have been intercepted, and had the packers caught
those interceptions, the narrative would have been different on this.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
The difference is the Broncos caught every errant throw.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
From the packers and the packers dropped.

Speaker 4 (18:20):
Every errant throw from the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
There are some throws that bow needs not to try
and just accept a sack or throw it away.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
Okay, I would agree with that, because there was a
deep shot to Marvin Mims where the ball hung in
the air too long. The safety came over. He dropped
the ball and he bobbled it and Mims almost caught it. Yeah,
there was another one that was thrown to caland going
into the north end zone.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Safety came over, made a play and hit call a
sudden So I get that. That's that's the thing that's
part of his.

Speaker 5 (18:51):
Game that still has a little of the gunslinger mentality
end that you may want to reel in.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
But to me, you could do that. I still love
the backyard football.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Yeah, I think you don't want to reel it them
too much, right, because you got to live with that.
If he's going to make those spectacular plays, he's going
to make some mistakes too along the way. I mean,
he's still only in a second year. I mean, granted,
we're twelve and two and we're a first place in
the AFC, and you get nervous because everything's right there
in front of you.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
That you work your whole life for.

Speaker 1 (19:19):
But you have to be willing to accept the risks
for the success to come too.

Speaker 5 (19:24):
Yeah, you have to, And I'll say this really quick,
it's like having Troy Polamalo or Ed Reid on your team.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
Those dudes are going to jump everything.

Speaker 5 (19:33):
They did everything that aren't a defensive Coaches never let us,
let us do it right.

Speaker 3 (19:38):
But sometimes they got burned for it.

Speaker 5 (19:40):
They got burned for It's just like and the Mayors
Thomas play that Tim Tebow threw. There's no way Troy
palm Model should have been at the line of scrimmage,
but he did. But this is where this evolution of
the game allow your players to learn on the go,
and you got to take the bit of it.

Speaker 1 (19:55):
This week, we're often rolling on Broncos Country to night.
We got Ryan Conensberg next on KOA FM, Brand Smith
on him for Benjamin Albright alongside Nick Ferguson and Zach
Segers back behind the Glass. I heard someone was giving
you some crap the other day for like a TI.

Speaker 5 (20:17):
Well, yeah, that person you would be speaking of would
be Hall of Famer Steve Atwater. He thought what he
thought it was, just like so, I don't know two thousand.
I'm like, man, have you been listening to hip hop
because TIS come up with several albums.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
Yeah, well nothing like that early two thousand stuff. I guess,
I guess. I can't say albums.

Speaker 5 (20:40):
You see see what I did there, because that's what
they had when I was growing up.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
CD whatever you want to call it.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
Now, let's head out to the KOA Common Spirit Health
Hotline and bring on our guy, Ryan Conensberg.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Ryan, how are you tonight?

Speaker 8 (20:55):
Man?

Speaker 9 (20:57):
I'm doing great and I'm here to defend the honor
of t I.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Thank you, even though someone was sending out some pictures
of him at a concert recently and he looked like
he lost all his hair in the back of his head.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
So best of luck to TI.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Will still bang all of his bangers.

Speaker 8 (21:15):
Ryan.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
We wanted to talk to you about the Buffs and
Broncos tonight, but I want to start with the Broncos
after that huge win against the Packers and it seemed
like bow Knicks could do whatever he liked in that
second half against them and They're and their vaunted defense.
Albeit you know, Michah Parsans went down with the ACL tear,
which was horrible to see. But uh, what did you
see from bow Knicks? Was this his best game as

(21:37):
a Denver Bronco.

Speaker 8 (21:40):
Absolutely?

Speaker 9 (21:41):
It was so clean and calm and.

Speaker 8 (21:47):
Just on time, on target, and it was one of.

Speaker 9 (21:51):
Those games in a couple of moments within the game,
like the touchdown throw to Troy Franklin, where it's just like,
this is a franchise quarterback, Like we're looking at a
franchise quarterback.

Speaker 8 (22:01):
There's been kind of.

Speaker 9 (22:02):
Debate or worry or uncertainty in Broncos country.

Speaker 8 (22:07):
Of like, oh, okay, is this like a Sean Payton
thing or does Bo really have it? And obviously there's.

Speaker 9 (22:11):
A couple of games throughout the season where he wasn't
at his best. But when you're able to go in
a game like that where the stakes are that high
up against the quarterback who heading into the game was
higher than Bo, and like MVP conversations and all that,
you know, considered one of the top quarterbacks in the league,
and outperform him to the tune of where by the

(22:31):
end of the you know, by the end of the game,
people are talking about Bo almost in a higher regard
as Jordan Love was just a special performance at a
really important time. That as this season kind of goes
on and Bo's able to hopefully string together more games
like that when the stakes are that high, it really

(22:52):
just makes you believe that this team could do anything.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
So when we look at switching for Jessica ex second
on bus football because I know you're a man of
many talents. When we look at what's happening with the
CU Buffs and every year it's something different, especially with
nils and transfer portals, How is this going to change
what we see in bolder next season? Brennan Marion is coming,

(23:20):
but also you have someonort of a mass exodus of
some well known players with the Buffs program.

Speaker 9 (23:27):
Yeah, it's a I guess unfortunate part.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Of college football in twenty twenty five.

Speaker 9 (23:34):
And especially when you have a down season like they
did this year, like you're just going to see change.
But the type of money that is being thrown around
right now in college football is absolutely absurd, and it's
going to create a chasm between, you know, the teams
that haven't and the teams that don't. And so when

(23:58):
you have players that you know you want to keep
around and another school is willing to pay them four
times what you have kind of allotted for them, they're
just going to be changed.

Speaker 8 (24:09):
So I think the good news for Colorado is that
you have a.

Speaker 9 (24:14):
Quarterback in Julian Lewis who has an incredibly bright future.
You've now paired him with a offensive coordinator who is
one of the top innovators in the sport in my.

Speaker 8 (24:25):
Opinion, and that can take you a long way.

Speaker 9 (24:28):
But you're going to see more change before this transfer
portal season is over, and it's going to be a
huge onus on the coaching staff and the recruiting staff
to replace those players with equaler, better players.

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Talking with Ryan Conensberg here on Broncos Country and now
you can find all his work at DMVR. You guys
do a great job over there, and I'm loving your
new podcast with a keep to leave the no Lie Zone.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
You guys had TJ Ward on recently.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
What were some similarities that he shared about this Broncos
team this year Super Bowl fifty winning team.

Speaker 9 (25:02):
Yeah, I think maybe you're thinking of Roby who was
on this week, but thank you nonetheless, Oh yes, you're right. Sorry, Yeah,
we did have T Day on a couple of weeks ago,
but it was Roby who was on this week and
talked about, you know, just the comparison of having such
a strong secondary.

Speaker 8 (25:19):
To pair with the pass rush that they have.

Speaker 9 (25:22):
Your good interior, you can stop the run, you trust
your linebackers. I mean those two were kind of going
back and forth just about how, you know, down to
the studs, how similar that these teams are defensively, And
where I.

Speaker 8 (25:37):
Think I noticed it the most is just the.

Speaker 9 (25:39):
Ability to play man coverage and you know, just trust
your guys back there and just say like, sure, you know,
you can test these guys all you want, but we
trust that they're gonna win more times than they don't.
And I think early in the game against the Packers,
you know, Jordan Love throughout the season has been great
against man covered, and we questioned whether or not we

(26:01):
should just stick with man and went with Morizona, and
he picked it a part in the first half, and
I think once we got to the second half is like,
now we're going back to what we do well and
getting more man heavy. And that's what I remember about
that twenty fifteen team so much, is just like we're
going to we're going to play how we play, We're
going to run what we run, and good luck rightan really.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
Quick before we let you go, where did you stand
on traditional pocket passers and the evolution of the quarterback position.
In quarterback we have now in bo Nicks.

Speaker 3 (26:33):
And that dirty dirty word.

Speaker 5 (26:36):
Back yard football, where do you stand? Which quarterback do
you like more?

Speaker 9 (26:42):
I think you got to have a little bit of
it all, you know. I think that Sean Payton is
very invested in trying to teach Bo Nicks to play
in a more traditional way while also realizing that he
has a strength and a ability to make stuff happened
from a backyard sense. But you certainly have to have

(27:05):
it all in today's game of football. The day I
think of the statue pocket passers behind us, I just
think that there's a little bit of Sean Payton that
wants Bo to almost if he could, he would like
have games where Bo didn't have any legs and he
just had to learn how to win from the pocket,
and then the legs are just like a bonus when

(27:27):
you absolutely needed them. So I don't know, I think
I understand your question, But to me, it's in today's NFL,
in today's game of football, period, you have to have
a quarterback who can move around and make plays with
his legs real quick.

Speaker 1 (27:42):
Before we let you go, Ryan, give us a thirty
seconds to a minute on what do you expect from
this Jaguars team?

Speaker 8 (27:50):
Play action?

Speaker 9 (27:51):
A whole lot of play action, especially if they can
get the.

Speaker 8 (27:56):
Run game going.

Speaker 9 (27:56):
And I think that's the key for the Broncos is
don't let them get that run game so you're not
so invested in those play action fakes. But Liam Cohen
is a very, very gifted designer, especially in the run game,
and he's going to dress things up a million different
ways and make you think one thing's happening and something
else is happening, and do anything he can to scheme

(28:18):
open runs so that when they get to that play
action game, you're going to have your linebackers down near
the line of scrimmage and they can.

Speaker 8 (28:24):
Throw it over your head.

Speaker 4 (28:26):
You're always great man.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
We always appreciate your time and we'll continue to check
out all your great work at DMVR. Thanks for the
time tonight. Thanks both Ryan Conensberg with d MVR. Liam
Cohen getting made fun of when he first took over
the Jaguars job for this comment, but I think people
around the league starting to realize that he knows what

(28:48):
he's doing.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
Yeah, he's showing.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
That he knows what he is doing.

Speaker 5 (28:53):
And you know, Ryan's talking about the utilization of the
running backs, very creative offense. But here's where the evolution
of the game is taking place and is where Lee
and Cohen is done.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
He knows that he has a very talented running backs.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
I don't think the tune's going to play because of
the broken finger, but when you look at trams Etn
he gets him on a perimeter and he throws and passes,
he certainly does.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
We'll continue to break that down. Plus, want to get
some more thoughts on the cu buffs and the transfer portal.

Speaker 4 (29:21):
Coming up in just a couple of minutes.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Come out too. Oh really, yes, I'm sorry, that's right.
You're not at the games this night.

Speaker 4 (29:33):
I get to go to maybe one a year, one
a year, and I got to go watch.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Them beat the dog crap out of my Bengals this year.

Speaker 3 (29:40):
Well, so sorry for you.

Speaker 1 (29:42):
Hey, I'm here for this year man, Bengals sitting at
four and ten, got a sad Joe Burrow and Broncos
first place in the AFC.

Speaker 3 (29:50):
So I'm excited.

Speaker 1 (29:52):
I'm excited to work some playoff games this year, hopefully
more than one this year.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
But I want to go back. You asked Ryan Conansberg.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
Our last guest about to see you bus in the
transfer portal? Is coach Prime gonna bring the bright ones
out of the transfer portal to a Boulder this year.

Speaker 5 (30:06):
You never know, man, And this is what makes things
so trivial for every single coach. You have to continue
to recruit your guys every single year, and Coach Prime
is no different. So the idea is that you hope
that you bring in more guys from the portal, but
more poorly. Yeah, it's from high school, and there's no

(30:28):
guarantee either of those guys are going to be willing
to stay. Because what we're seeing happening in college football,
there are certain programs that are becoming feeder programs for
a much larger program right right, and right now, there's
some guys leaving, see you, and it's gonna be tough

(30:48):
for coach Prime to kind of fill that void.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
But and man, this is what every coach is going through.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
And they're gonna have to find a way to put
some pieces together and then get more wins in this
next season than they did this season.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
Let's hope. So. I think they have the right quarterback.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
If they can keep Juju there, I think I think
they're gonna be okay. And that new offensive coordinator seems
like some sort of mad genius so I think I
think we got high hopes going into next year for
the Buffs.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
High hopes is what you need, especially.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
Especially with all the success of all the other teams.
We're gonna hear from Cortland Sutton

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Talking about that coming up next on Broncos Country Tonight,
