Speaker 1 (00:00):
Before we hit the braake, nick I asked you about
the Pat Brian injury before we get to your thoughts
and the story that you were going to share. I
want to share bow Nix's comments on the Pat Bryant
situation yesterday.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Well, you never want to.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
See somebody in that situation, and uh, I feel responsible
because I do it, and you know, it's a you
can say it's part of the game, but you just
never want to see it, and you you know, really
praise okay, you know, and can be back out there
as soon as you can. But yeah, it's just one
(00:34):
of those things that you know, you wish you could avoid.
Speaker 4 (00:37):
But that was a tough situation.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
That was a tough situation and you could see bow
was visibly shaken up after that hit on Pat Bryant,
which you know it was a legal hit, but it
was still a scary situation. Adam Powerfield at mile High
Pat Bryant being carted off on stretcher. What were your
thoughts on the Pat Bryant injury yesterday? And you had
a similar story worry that you were going to share
(01:00):
about the mindset of a player when you see a
guy like that on your team down and out on
the field.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:06):
Man, I was close on the field holding the parabolic mic,
so I had a first hand.
Speaker 6 (01:12):
View of what was taking place.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
And I know the fans didn't like it because they
were giving the referees a lot of grief for.
Speaker 6 (01:20):
But it was a legal hit, and.
Speaker 5 (01:22):
With me standing on the sideline as a former player,
it just puts so many things in perspective grant that
I guess I took for granted because when I played,
I never thought about injury of any caliber. You couldnot
play this game as physically as I played at the
safety position, where you're constantly.
Speaker 6 (01:40):
Thinking of what could have happened or what might happen.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
You just cut it loose and you just pray to
God that he takes care of you, and he kind
of puts his arms in his.
Speaker 6 (01:49):
Hands around you during any again of the game.
Speaker 5 (01:51):
And I was just standing there, almost like transported back
to being a player, like, yeah, Wow, this is really happening.
They're bringing out the cart and it seldom do we
see games where they bring out a cart for a player,
And look, man, it was just heartbreaking.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
And I'm glad that he is up and about because.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
In the situations that I've been a part of and
i've been I've seen it twice once in two thousand
and seven as a member of the Denver Broncos facing
off against the Buffalo Bills and Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo,
and Kevin Evert, who was a tight end for the
Buffalo Bills during that time, he was running down on
kickoff and I'm on kickoff team and he ran into
a receiver Dominic Hickson. Immediately down, face down right and
(02:40):
he's not moving, and luckily they use some little experimentation
to kind of you know some I guess freezing sailing
to kind of put in his neck that kind of
froze the nerve endings. Yes, and that was the thing
that saves him because he was up and about moving
(03:01):
as extremities maybe three to four days later because of
that experiment. Now fast forward to two thousand and eight.
Now I'm a member of the Houston Texans and his preseason,
Gary Kubiak is the head coach. Harry Wilson is a
wide receiver. We are running down and I think both
(03:22):
of us are gunners, so we kind of converge on
a retainer on me on the returner and we hit
him at the same time.
Speaker 6 (03:30):
So when Harry came, Harry ended up hitting me too.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
As we were converging on the returner, Harry had hit
me in the chest right, So now I got a
chess contusion. And now you're talking about that whiplash motion.
And then you hit the turf, so now you got
some concussion action in it. But I can, as I'm
lying on the ground, I can look right next to
me and I see he's face down and he's not
(03:55):
moving right. So once again it tests your faith, right,
But it also shows how violent this game could be,
and you never really think about it as a player,
because Everett got up and he started walking around. Harry
(04:15):
eventually started to walk around. But I remember the next
time I saw him, he had these metal screws in
his head and he had this little metal halo thing
to keep his next straight.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
And man, I was thrown off for a couple of games.
I can't blame you, because.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
Remember what I told you, how it sits with you
for a while and it's hard to let it go,
and everyone is like, turn the page, let it go.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
It didn't happen to you, So you have no skin
in the.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
Game to know that, even though it wasn't my fault,
one of my teammates would never play this game again
because a collision that we had on the field playing
the game that we love. So it seemed as though
it's easy to forget about. But when DeMar Hamlin had
this situation, yeah, it all came back to me, all
(05:07):
of it, and it was just so hard. It's even
hard now, man, because I know how hard Kevin Ebertt
wanted to play this game. Harry Williams wanted to play
this game. Hell, I wanted to play this game. And
not everyone gets a chance to say they ride up
in the sunset with a ten year, twelve year career.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Yeah, more often than not, it's the opposite of this.
That's the opposite.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
You know, it's tough, but I think moments like that
and you can talk about the DeMar Hamlin won a
couple of years ago. Hopefully, at least for me, it
puts it back into perspective, like, yeah, we want these
dudes to give it. They're all, but you remember the
human element of it when something like that happened, Well.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
See that's what you hope. But I was talking to Steve.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
During the break and what we both agreed on is
that the fandom has changed this with fantasy football and wagers,
things have gone up so much so that fans they
don't see you as being a human being happened to
happening to play a professional sport. They see you as
(06:10):
a commodity that they do that they can trade like
fantasy football. And when you don't play well, I take
it personally against you, Grant Smith.
Speaker 6 (06:21):
You didn't play well. You were the reason that I
lost money on I didn't tell you the bet. I
didn't tell you to do that.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
But that is what has changed this game where fans
feel as though they can talk to you in any way.
They want to talk to you because they think because
they buy a ticket, they've been a longtime fan, and
they buy the paraphernalia for the team, the memberabellion, they
(06:49):
own you and it's like, nah, dog, no, you don't.
So I'm a grown ass man, so better you better
be careful how you talk.
Speaker 4 (06:57):
To me too. Well, speaking of that, let's get to
the NFL six pack. It's time for the NFL's sixth path.
Speaker 7 (07:04):
I'm going to take a lot of bearn insight and
inside information you can't find it once.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
Well, I messed that up, but we'll keep rolling right along.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
And while we while we were speaking of the player
and fan interaction, DK Metcalf suspended two games by the
NFL for his interaction with a fan on Sunday. The
NFL's president, when it comes to player interaction with fans,
has been to impose a fine. Sunday's behavior by Steelers
receiver Dk Metcalf was largely unprecedented, and so the league
(07:36):
has suspended Metcalf for two games without pay. For the NFL,
the punishment is for conduct detrimental to the NFL for
initiating a physical confrontation with a fan during Sunday's game
against the Detroit Lions and the press release. Metcalfs actions
violate league policy, which specifies that players may not enter
the stands or otherwise compronpt fans at any time on
(07:57):
game day, and if a player makes unnecessary phs contact
with the fan in any way that constitutes unsportsmanlike conduct
or presents crowd control issues and or risk of injury,
he will be held accountable.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Did you see the video?
Speaker 1 (08:11):
And apparently Dk Metcalf is saying that the fan used
a racial slur what were your thoughts on the interaction
between DK Metcalf and the Lions fan.
Speaker 5 (08:20):
Well, first and foremost, it should never happen. Obviously, you
have to maintain your composure. But I know, as a
player who wants turned a football table over Gator Ray,
sometimes that is hard to do and you just have
to muscle.
Speaker 6 (08:32):
The strength to kind of get through it.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
But until I know exactly if it is true that
this person said these words, then I'm just going to
kind of step back on this one. But at the
worst case scenario, man or Betty. At best case scenario,
try to avoid at all costs tail team security and let.
Speaker 6 (08:51):
Them handle it.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yeah, it looked like something got really under DK metcalf skin.
He's not someone who usually is, you know, doing stuff
like that with fans interaction, but that.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Was that was aggressive.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Now what I've heard, I don't know how true it is,
but apparently this must be. It's being said that this
person is the same person who used to helckle him
what he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks and
just kind of travels.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
Around just going DK that cat.
Speaker 6 (09:18):
So I don't know how true that.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Is, but either way, fans players is a certain decorum.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
We got to make sure we have a lot.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
Of respect too.
Speaker 6 (09:27):
And you watched the tape.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
You know it's a smaller market, but you see a
real good team.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
You know, a small market team like us can come
into a place like Mile High and get it done.
William Cohen, the Jaguars head coach, responding to Sean Payton's
smaller market comments earlier last week, The Jaguars sank their
teeth into a straight comment last week from Broncos head
coach Sean Payton regarding Jacksonville Jaguars being a smaller market.
Speaker 4 (09:57):
It seemed like.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
To me that Sean Payton was kind of giving them
a compliment to the Jags organization. But Liam Cohen didn't
think So, what did you think of Liam Cohen kind
of clapping back at Sean Payton for the smaller market comment.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Well, Liam Coleen is saying like he is kind of
stepping into that mode.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
I mean, he's no stranger to Ridic.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
You remember when he first arrived he was with the
Duval that kind of went viral and people were on him.
But coming into the game Sunday and I told Jojo this,
two of the more disrespected teams with the Denver Broncos
and the Jaguars, and the Jaguars were looking to someone
make a name for themselves, and they did beating the Broncos.
Speaker 6 (10:33):
But I'm not saying.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
That what Coach Payton said was, you know, was intentional.
But when you playing this game and you looking for
any type of motivation, you try to use it, and
Lame Cohen did a great job of using that to
motivate his guys.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Dudell three, it's not so funny anymore after Drake Greenlaw
estimated as a non participant today in practice, but Justin
Strenaud was full. We saw Jerry Greenlaw react to a
pool hamstring. It looked like in the game on Sunday.
How big of a loss is Drake Greenlaw for this
(11:08):
Broncos defense going forward? And how much of that hole
will Justin Schernad be able to fill?
Speaker 6 (11:13):
Well I saw with Atlanta first.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
Schernard has done a great job over the past two
years when Alex Singleton has been out. He did it
last year with Cody Bard. He's doing it again. He
is not just a serviceable linebacker, but a guy who's
shaping into a respectable start in this league. Not having
Drake Greenlaw is going to hurt because now it affects
the three man rotation. We saw Jordan Turner receive some
(11:37):
time in the game on Sunday. So if Great Greenlaw
can't go, then the Broncos is gonna have to lean
on him. But it makes a road tougher for that
linebacker Creup.
Speaker 4 (11:45):
And it certainly does for.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Well.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
We kind of thought this might happen last week, and
it seems like they are moving forward. That's the Kansas
City Chiefs possibly moving to Kansas when their leased at
g eh Field to Arrowhead Stadium expires. According to Sam
McDowell of the Kansas City Star, the Chiefs have informed
administrative officials that they are going to announce their move
to Kansas on Monday after the Kansas Legislative Coordinating Council meeting.
(12:13):
The Kansas City Star previously reported that Kansas Governor Laura
Kelly plans to make a special announcement after the meeting.
Does this do anything for you? Does it move the
needle that the Kansas City Chiefs are moving to the
other side of Kansas City, across street state lines into Kansas.
Speaker 5 (12:31):
No, because the team name is going to stay intact.
The fan bases would have to travel just a little more,
and I would have to think that this just means
more money for the Hunt family and with the building
of the stadium. So it's just the business of football
working itself. Doesn't affect me anymore unless they want to
cut me a check.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Free money, the best money.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
Best money for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Five.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Sticking with the Chiefs wide Rashi Rice Taekwon Thornton remained
in concussion protocol and that's not the only injury they're facing.
Gardner Minshew went down and they're going to be on
their third string quarterback. It looks like when they face
the Broncos on Christmas, what do you make of this
Chief season? Do you just kind of chalk it up
and say, Okay, we'll get back to it next year,
(13:19):
and what are your expectations on Thursday night, a Christmas
Night game between the Broncos and the Chiefs Broncos.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
Dub Ryan may pull out my forty five to ten prediction. Again,
I like it, But this is just kind of a
situation of time running out right the hour glass. When
you turn it over, you live high on a hall
for a short period of time, and then your fortunes change,
and that's where the Chiefs find themselves.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
And think about this.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
A couple of years ago, when Mahomes was being called
the baby Golt, I mean everyone was thinking, Okay, well,
will they win as many Super Bowls as Tom Brady?
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Right?
Speaker 6 (13:56):
And I'm gonna say I say no, then I'm gonna
say no now.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
But that tells you how difficult what Tom was able
to do over a twenty year period, how hard it
is to win games in the NFL, and especially Super Bowls.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Well, some weird parallels between Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady.
Both three super Bowls before they turned twenty nine. Both
injured their tore their ACL in the same year in
their pro career.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
So still all there for Patrick Mahock.
Speaker 5 (14:24):
You're not predicting the opposite what I just said about
Tom Brady.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Hell no, Okay, it's Broncos time, all right. Sick John
Harball on his future with the Ravens. I'm focused on
doing the best job I can Today. The Ravens are
on the brink of being eliminated from playoff contention after
Sunday Night's lost to the Patriots, and head coach Jim
John Harball fielded questions about his job security at his
(14:51):
Monday press conference. Hardball's in his eighteenth season with the Ravens.
He's only had two losing seasons in that span, but
this will be his third unless the team wins out,
and they have set a franchise record with six losses
at home this year. Earlier today, Harball was asked if
he has any fears of losing his job as a
result of his team's disappointing performance, and Harball said that
(15:13):
he's concerned with doing the job, not trying.
Speaker 4 (15:16):
To keep the job.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
Do you think the Ravens could possibly move on from Harball?
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Yeah, I think that it is a possibility, As it
always when there's a knee jerk reaction, just think about it.
People were saying the same thing about Mike Tomlin. Two
of these coaches, the historic coaches in the NFC North,
and people are talking about kicking these coaches to the curve,
And I know it was like, well, maybe it's time
for a change, or you gotta remember what these guys
(15:42):
were able to do in their time period.
Speaker 6 (15:44):
So I think it's just kind of preposterous to even
come up with this narrative.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
By the way, speaking of Mike Tomlin most consecutive seasons
without a losing record for head coaches all time. He
has now tied Bill Belichick with nineteen straight seasons, only
behind Tom Landry with twenty one. You might want to
remember for Steelers fans, grass isn't always greener. On the
other side, when we come back, we've got Parker Gabriel
(16:09):
joining us on Broncos Country to Night on KOA. Parker,
I'm filling in for Ben tonight as he's out a
little under the weather. What'd you make of that lost
to the Jaguars yesterday? Anything that stood out to you?
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Oh, it sort of felt like a long time coming,
didn't it. I mean, not like they hadn't been playing good.
I mean they really had. You can't win eleven in
a row without playing really well. And at the same time,
like it just it was a little bit hard to
believe that they were just going to run the table
all the way through.
Speaker 8 (16:39):
And not only that, but Jackson was playing.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
Great, so they got got it happens.
Speaker 8 (16:45):
Obviously, there's some concerning things.
Speaker 2 (16:47):
Everything that you would have picked out over the last
month or so as a potential issue sort of cropped
up on Sunday and when all of that happens in
one game. You get a result like that.
Speaker 8 (17:00):
So quick turnaround.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Obviously, they're huge favorites against Kansas City. They've still got
everything in front of them. Two wins and they're the
one seed. But also the AFC and the West have
tightened up quite a bit.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
Well, Barker, I know, obviously, like you said, I mean,
it would be great to go on a seventeen year
old run. Well that's not sustainable possible in today's NFL.
But what was some of the more concerning things that
you took away from the game yesterday.
Speaker 8 (17:29):
Well, I mean there's a couple of things.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
That are just sort of anomalies that you know, they're
not problems yet. Like the Broncos have been the best
defense in the red zone all year. They gave up
four red zone touchdowns. It's the first time a team
has scored four red zone touchdowns in Denver since twenty
seventeen against the Broncos. Obviously, the tackling, they're a really
good tackling team that have been all year. They were
(17:52):
not in the second half, especially like Roddy Moss I thought,
I thought he played really really well in the first
half and then Obviously it just kind of got a
in the second half. He wasn't the only one. So
those things you're sort of you make a note of them.
Obviously they can't happen in a playoff game, but you're
also sort of like, you just haven't seen much of
that this year, So I'm not quite sure how concerned
(18:13):
to be about it. The things that have been popping up,
obviously penalties at bad times. They've been giving up a
lot of passing yards the past few weeks. Teams have
gotten them with tight ends and running backs.
Speaker 8 (18:26):
Like there's just sort of a checklist.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Of things that if you were saying, hey, these are
the relative weaknesses of this Broncos team, they all sort
of popped up and reared their head against Jacksonville.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Talking with Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post here on
Broncos Country tonight, Parker, I want to take you to
the offensive side of the ball.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
Seemed like we had the running game going.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
A little bit with our Jay Harvey and Julia McLoughlin,
but then we kind of went away from it in
the second half. Do you think that was just because
we got down by two touchdowns or do you think
there's a bigger problem here for the Broncos offense.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
Yeah, not just because I mean there was a few
possessions there before Denver was ever trailing by two scores.
Like you said, I mean they were in chase mode
by the time it was thirty one seventeen. Obviously, the
turnover that sort of spurred on Jacksonville's run there in
the second half was on a running play. It was
you know, sort of read meshed between Boat Nixon Julie McLoughlin.
(19:23):
But you're right at me, I think they only ran
it seventeen times or nineteen times for the game. Some
of that's about game situation. But if you go back,
if you start with the game against Las Vegas where JK.
Dobbins got hurt. Going into that game, they were averaging
one hundred and thirty four rushing yards a game and
four point nine per carry. Since you know, beginning with
that game when he got hurt, they're at three point
(19:47):
eight per carry in ninety four and a half per game.
So you know, you're talking forty plus fewer rushing yards
per game. That's obviously a huge drop off. It's like,
you know, a third basically of their running game almost
so that's that's a been a big loss. I think
two things can be kind of true at once, Like R. J.
Harvey's having impressive year. He's a good all around player.
(20:07):
And also the running game has really suffered since JK.
Dobbins has been out, So yeah, I mean I.
Speaker 8 (20:13):
Think that's a big concern.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Like it hasn't changed the way they play a ton,
but it has just sort of made them less efficient
running the football. And unless they're magically going to get JK.
Dobbins back at some point, you know, in the postseason,
it's sort of it's their reality. It's been their reality,
and so far they haven't been able to find a
(20:36):
way to really, you know, find a lot of juice
in the running game outside of having one hundred and
fifty two yards against the Raiders.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Markert, where do you fall on this whole theory that
this particular loss was needed, it was wanted, it was
required to revitalize if that's the way you want to
use this Broncos team for the next or a late
playoff push. Where do you fall on that though? Are
(21:04):
you in agreement with that or are you, like, you
know what, miss me with that?
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Yeah? I think I think miss me with that generally,
but I will say like, but I will say this, like,
I don't think I just didn't think it was really
gonna happen, that they were going to run the table.
So I don't know that it's like, oh, good they lost.
But at the same time, it's just sort of the
reality of the NFL. Like it's so it's so rare
to win eleven in a row as it is than
(21:29):
to win, you know, fifteen in a row and go
into the playoffs and make it seventeen or eighteen or
whatever it would have been to win a Super Bowl.
It just just really doesn't happen. So it's more to
my mind, it's more like, you know, obviously you would
have preferred to wrap up the one seed and then
maybe lose a game where you're not you know, where
(21:50):
you don't have to win that They definitely could have
used that one against Jacksonville. That's why I think it's
not a good thing or oh they needed to lose.
And at the same time.
Speaker 8 (21:58):
Now that it's happened, now that you have that sort.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Of cause to say, hey, listen, we got our bucks kicked.
We know it. We didn't play very well. Nick Benito
said he didn't.
Speaker 8 (22:08):
Show up raad to play like all.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Of these things x y Z lists him out. The
only way it's really going to hurt you from here
is if you don't take advantage of it as if
it was a good thing. Like I don't think it
was good that they lost for their own purposes, but
I do think it's a chance to now sort of
take advantage of it and refined that mojo or re
(22:30):
tap into that thing that drove them over eleven games.
Speaker 8 (22:35):
And do it quickly here well, Parker.
Speaker 5 (22:38):
There were some comments coming out of Jacksonville, especially after
the game, where leam Kahn actually brought up something that
coach Payton said during the week.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
Now, do you feel as though.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
That was taken out of context by the Jacksonville Jaguars
coach and used as bulletin board material or there was something.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
More to that.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Yeah, that's a good question. I mean, I think it
almost doesn't matter, Like I'm not you know. Sean Payton
said today categorically he did not mean it as a
slight I he didn't outant. What he said today was well,
I only meant it in the sense of, like, not
enough people around the country have seen this team play.
I mean, that's not what he said. It wasn't that
far off. But what he said was they're good for
(23:20):
being in a small market. They're a really good football team.
I mean, that's that's what he said. You could interpret
that several different ways. Maybe he doesn't mean it as
a slight you can, you know, sort of take him
at his word for that.
Speaker 8 (23:30):
But the thing that I appreciate about Sean is.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
That today he sort he said, he literally said, does
a good job by William like a good job by
Liam Cohen. To take something even if it wasn't the
manner in which it was, you know, Sean Payton intended
it and twisted into motivation, used it as motivation. So
you know, if Liam Cohen took it out of context, like,
more power to him. He found something that he was
(23:54):
able to use to motivate his team. I don't think
it's why they won by fourteen points. Only is why
they won the game. But you know, Sean Payton, all
coaches like they do this all the time. They find
something they can use. You know, don't let the truth
get in the way of a good story. Nobody believes
in us like the Broncos you know they've been they
still say that there's there's very little criticism, at least
(24:15):
before Sunday of the way Denver played in the back
part of this winning street to get to eleven and
eleven in a row twelve and two, and there still
was this like sense percolating in the locker room of
like no one believes in us, Like I don't know,
I see you at the top of a lot of
power rankings, but like if it motivates you and you
can use it, go for it, like use it, twist
(24:35):
it the way you want to use it to your
own advantage. That's what Liam Cohen did with that comment, and.
Speaker 8 (24:42):
I thought it was I thought it was interesting, and
I thought it was.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Like sort of like, you know, game recognized game for
Sean Payton to say.
Speaker 8 (24:49):
Yeah, that was a good job by Liam Cohen.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
Have taken something I didn't mean as a knock and
using it to juice up a Gattison.
Speaker 4 (24:57):
Well, always a great job by you.
Speaker 1 (24:58):
Parker on Broncos Country to Night, we appreciate your time
and happy holidays, Merry Christmas, but you'll be like us
working on Christmas for the Chiefs game, So we appreciate
your time as always.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Man, Yeah, that's right. Same. Do you guys have you holidays?
Merry Christmas? That we'll talk to him.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Barker Gabriel from the Denver Post, and I thought he
had some interesting comments about bouncing back when you asked
him that question about the Broncos loss to the Jaguars.
Here was Evan Ingram post game kind of saying those
same things along those same lines.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
Honestly, I think, you know, we have a locker room
full of guys that are really good at attacking university
and d you know, we got we got interested in
them off today and you know we got respond and
be as university fust attack.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
So I think we have a lot of guys in
here that look forward to that.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
You know, we've heard all year from the Broncos team
how close they are, how the locker room's great. And
that's easy to say when you're winning a nine and
eleven game winning streak, but now you've faced a tough loss,
you got beat in every facet of the game against
the Jaguars on Sunday. Do you think we'll see the
Broncos bounce back in a big way against the Chiefs
on Thursday Night?
Speaker 5 (26:05):
Absolutely? One because it is the Chiefs, two because what's
at stake? And three looking at how beat up the
Chiefs are. They're basically limping into this game out of
desperation with absolutely nothing to play for, and the Broncos
have everything to play for. And we've heard this season
(26:26):
when the Broncos have faced certain teams how the Broncos
have played down to their opponent.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
I don't look at it in that way. I say, well,
the teams that you're facing.
Speaker 5 (26:37):
The Broncos are facing, they look you to you as
an opportunity to prove themselves and get a bump nationally
recognition by beating you. That's exactly what the Jacksonville Jaguars did, right,
because the talk around the league. Now obviously you're looking
at the games that need to be played, and you
look at the New England Patriots, they have an easy path.
(26:58):
I think they have the Jets in the Miami Dolphins, right,
and you look at the Jacksonville JAGUARSS like, look, no
one gave us any respect. We went into Mile High
and we won that game. We earned that game, and
I got to give them credit, Yes they did. They
were the more physical, they were more consistent, they were
the more effective team. I'm not gonna use the word dominant,
(27:19):
but they were very efficient at what they were doing.
And just like all the players were saying, it's like
a boxing match. You get pushed in the face. At
some point you have to figure out what are you
going to go back in your corner or are you
gonna make this actually ally fight when you take the
gloves off, get in the center ring and put someone
in the.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Damn faces negatively speaking, well, speaking of getting punched in
the face, you see Jake Paul Gett knocked out by
Anthony Josh.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
Did you see his jaw?
Speaker 5 (27:47):
Oh my god, talk about own swoon.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
I know man immediately into surgery had some plates put
in their broken jaw on both sides and remove some teeth.
Speaker 4 (27:58):
I think that's what everyone was waiting for it honestly
from a Jake palf.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
Usually when people when you're doing dintal work and they
are removing teeth, that means that you're getting braces, right,
But in this case it was intentional.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
Well, he might need some braces after that.
Speaker 6 (28:14):
Yeah, Hey, his Christmas dinner is going to be through
a straw right now.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
Yeah, he's gonna blend up those mashed potatoes and gravy.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
So so Rick Lewis put this uh tweet out on
x and and kind of tagged me in it and
sent me a photo of his his jaw right after
the fight. And this is me paraphrasing, and basically Rick
was asking, was having your jaw wires shut?
Speaker 6 (28:43):
Is it worth a hundred million dollars?
Speaker 5 (28:44):
I said, yeah, that means, hey, this one's gonna go
down at some point, right, Hey, that's right now. I'm
not saying I would put myself in that situation. No,
I wouldn't do it, you know, kind of put myself
out there to get pummelled for the entertainment of everyone else,
(29:07):
because that's exactly what the Paul brothers are doing and
they've done a great job of doing it.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
But nah, I'm not that thirsty.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Did you see his brother before the fight, Like he
was like pacing around all nervously and he's like, I know,
I know what's gonna happen to my baby brother tonight
and he's gotta get knocked out demo style.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
Hey man, I was When I walked in the house,
my kids were yelling and screaming. I'm like, what's going
on and they're watching the fight, and I'm like, why
is he kept grabbing Jones around his waist. I'm like,
I mean, this is not MMA fighting, Like, I mean,
just get up in Fox.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
He was just trying to survive. He knew what was coming.
He was just like, I'm just I'm just trying to
hang out, hang on as long as I can. Even
the wrath at one point was like, hey man, this
isn't why people paid money to see this fight.
Speaker 4 (29:54):
Exactly, get up and get up and fight.
Speaker 5 (29:55):
And one of when you watch those fights, you have
to think, contractually, right, with all the sponsors and all
of that, they have to get the fight to a
certain round, yes, right, so to make it worth worthwhile,
because i mean the fights that have ended up like
earlier than it did. But you seem as though they
were trying to fill each other out.
Speaker 6 (30:14):
They're trying to.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Extend the dollars, extend the dollars, get all those commercials
in between rounds. Nick, appreciate you as always, man, Have
a great rest of your night, and we'll talk again soon.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Talk to you soon. We have a short week to
digest it. You can't spit it out. You got to
swallow it, and that starts with every one of us.
