Sophia Tongue. She is the founderand CEO for T and T Consulting Services,
based out of Falls Church, butalso in San Antonio and Dayton,
Ohio. They provide enterprise IT solutionsand business integrated services to their clients through

management processes, as well as financialand administrative management services. Before we talk
more about Sophia's company, I firstasked her to talk a little bit about
herself, where she's from and herorigin story. So I grew up in

island in Asia called tag One.Very luckily, I was given an opportunity
to come to the States to pursuemaster degree in computer science at University of
Maryland. At college party, soyou are a terrapist, Yes, I'm
a teffans man. You don't wantto watch the basketball. We talked and

they have a pretty good program tomen's and women's and football is doing pretty
good too. You know, wetalked to so many CEOs and founders that
are from Maryland in the area,so it's wonderful. I know that you're
based in False Church, but youalso have offices in San Antonio and Dayton,
and we're going to talk a lotabout that when it comes to T
and T Consulting Services. But whatI did want to ask you about is

your career before that. And Ialways love to hear from our founders and
CEOs and leaders about that idea.You know, I've got this great idea
about a company. I think Ican pull it off. I know it's
going to take a lot of hardwork in tenacity and a leap of faith.
But tell us a little bit beforeabout what you're doing, and then
tell us about the story about startingT and T Consulting Services. So I

was a geek before I started acompany. I just love coding right program
and you know, if I havea buck in my program, I joice
a ship. So I just sopassionate and about doing computer software. And
besides that, I also love golf. So when I was I guess thirty
(02:12):
five years old, I have themidlife classes so early. So I'm like,
this is so boring because Michael issuper like stable and I want to
quit my job do something more exciting. So um, I love golf.
I'm like I want to do somethingrelated to golf, and my girlfriend said
(02:34):
no, no, no, youwon't make enough money for lady. So
I go like, what should Ido? And they told me about this
AA program the US government has tohelp minority to stop business in a state,
and they were they are given nineyears in a program that they don't

have to compete against other large businesswhich actually set a very good foundation for
us when we were in a program, and so luckily I was able to

then got to a SPA to learnhow to do business with government, take

some lessons, and then went backto the same job. Instead of being
an employee of the large company,I become the consultant or contractor, the
contractor to the to the large business. And therefore I have this past performance
for us to apply AA pogram aftertwo years. Okay, so you know

what, it's really interesting. Youknow, we talked to so many first
generation immigrants that come over from anothercountry and get some education here and they
have a great business acumen and thenthey work in the field decide they would
like to be their own boss.And you're a great example of that another
great success story about starting your ownbusiness. There's a lot of future leaders
that look like you and are likeyou when it comes to saying, you

know what, there's a lot ofroadblocks in front of me. I'm facing
this and this hardship and this ishard to do. And I think you're
a great example about tenacity and alsocoming up with a great idea but also
starting your own business. And maybeyou could just in part a little advice
to everybody out there that's listening rightnow. While it might have been a
(04:26):
difficult journey to do, you've doneit now with T and T Consulting services
about what the whole thing was likewhen you started everything. So I know
a lot of people want to getinto this business and it's hard. I
have to say, if it's thateasy, everybody become millionneers now right right.
So to me, it's like Ihave a great mentor and he actually

gave me just one thing that's veryimportant to do a business, just do
it. And so I always hadmentality just do it, because if you
do it, you get a chance. If you don't have no chance,
and believe or not a lot ofthings that I did before, I never
thought it would turn into something verysuccessful, and it did. You just

need the time, you need apatient and be persistent, right and you're
you know, you're also talking aboutdoing a leap of faith as well too,
because you have to take chances whenyou start your own business. And
I think that's something you did withyour hard work, your tenacity and having
that good idea. All right,so we are here to talk about T
T Consulting Services, you as founderand CEO. Before we get into all

the things that you offer your clientand exactly what you do and we can
explain to our listeners in just asecond, what is your mission statement of
T and T Consulting Services. Soour mission is to leverage innovative solutions to
help our customer be successful in themissions and to elaborate very simple. A

lot of customers, we support ourhealth related so we will leverage a lot
of new technologies like AIS, likea new process like age all development,
or we help them move their systemfrom putnesses to cult to make them their
(06:21):
job or easier and successful. Andlike I say on mission, we support
this mission in health. That makesme feel that we are so proud of
what we do every day that weare building the system that make people healthier
(06:42):
and live longer. All right,well that's ours. It's very cool.
Thank you for sharing all that.So you started to explain a little bit,
but let's get into the weeds alittle bit when it comes to programs
and capabilities. We have a lotof listeners that are listening to the first
time ever. And if you wereto pitch T and T consulting services,
what would you tell them that youexactly offering what you do the TNT we
are a very matured and strong womanon small business. Were specializing in enterprise

IT solutions and business integrated services andwith our focus in digital transformation system modilization
called migration, psycho security and enterpriseIT support services. Very good, Thank
you for sharing all of that.And I did want to ask you about

the competitive space that you might beAnd I don't want to assume that there
is any business that does exactly whatyou do, but if there is some
type of competition out there, howdo you differentiate your business from everybody else
in the competition out there? Yeah? So I think there's many things that
differentias the reputation we built. LikeI mentioned, our customer take us to
(07:56):
places they go, so we geta lot of organic schools, goals,
opportunity to the customers, and theinfrastructure that we build in a company.
So even though we are like hundredand fifty people employees, but we actually
have the infrastructure that most large businesshave in terms of actual accounting, contract

vehicles. We have over twenty contractvehicles that we prime or propin to our
joint venture. And then we alsohave like innovation lab services, same box
for our employees or our staff totry it on before we bring innovative solution
to our customers. So it's verydifferent from traditional small business. A lot
(08:48):
of them just feel better and seeds, but we actually bring the value or
innovation to our customers. Wonderful,thanks for sharing as well. Now,
I did want to ask you abouta success story, and let's put a
pin in that just for a second. And I'm sure you have a handful
of success stories that you've had withclients, but let's talk first about challenges
(09:11):
when it comes to the industry andspecifically your business with your clients. What
kind of challenges are you facing today? I would say probable recruiting because in
this area, everybody is doing similarthings, so just try to compete against
other people to recruit talents. It'svery challenging, particularly after COVID. Everybody
(09:35):
wants to work from home, butwe have tough secret clients type of job
that our people have to work ingovernment's gift facilities, right, So that
part I found most challenged to find. People are willing to travel to work
every day now. But other thanthat, I think it's not that because
(10:00):
the technology allow us to work remotely. So it's a challenge, but it's
also an opportunity. Because of that, we are able to hire talents nationalwide.
It doesn't have to be logo right, so we actually were able to
find many good talents during this COVIDand after COVID. And speaking of talent,
(10:22):
we'll talk about careers and a websiteat the end that you can go
to Sophia's website because they are lookingfor the best and the best and great
companies like Sophia is always liking tohire people that really want to work hard
and get paid well, So we'lltalk about that near the end of the
interview. There's also a common threatto Sophia that you talked about. A
lot of people don't understand this whenit comes to the top clearance that a

lot of your people have that theyactually have to work on site with governments
because it is so super secret whenit comes to the clearance level. So
there are some times in different jobsand I'm sure Sophia offers that can be
remote that she talked about, buta lot of people actually have to be
on site with these agencies because ofthe arrans when it comes to the super
secret stuff that everybody has to executeand be in persons that kind of comes

with the job. So but wehear that from a lot of people to
do what you do. Okay,I want to talk about a success story
and imagine you have just a handful, but maybe over the last couple of
years, Sophia, is there onethat really sticks out? And you don't
have to mention any names, nospecificity whatsoever, but when you worked with
a client said, you know today, we really knocked that one out of
the park. That was really agreat success story for us in them.

So, like you say, wehave so many that I think we have
done a lot of first for ourcustomers, like the first HR development improvement,
the first con migration for our customer, and it also we have a
lot of enterprise tool we build usingAI that create an efficiency and it's cost

saving for our customers. So forexample, in an h should we create
a small purchasing system that safe andmillions of dollars just by automated use automated
processes and using those innovative solutions thatwe try it out in our innovation of

that. So I would say that'sour most successful story. Great, like
I say, we go that,sorry, we go that contract found twenty
five thousand dollar tesk vorder to fortyfour million business. Well just in a
few years. Well, that's anextraordinary job. And I didn't want to
I'm glad you talked about that becauseI want to talk about growth because a
lot of businesses when they're started out, you know, after you get through

the hard part of actually starting thebusiness and recruiting your staff, and then
of course getting government contracts and thegovn con state and working with federal and
all your other private clients as welltoo, that there is a I guess,
a sense of being sustainable and makingsure that we can keep this business
going financially. But then there's alsoopportunities of growth means hiring more people.

There's more contracts, but there's alot more pressure and it gets really busy
out there. So maybe if youcould talk about that a little bit about
sustainability versus growth and where your companyis right now and what the future looks
like. So a lot of peopleactually ask me this cussion like what do
your goal and where do you wantyour company to be? And a lot
of people will say, oh,I want my company to be like two
(13:24):
hundred million or something. My answeris so different. I would say I
want this company taking where it wantsto go. So we always have this
principle, very simple, from dayone we start the company. We want
to take care of our employees.It's people, the people, it's what
(13:46):
we value them most. So wetake care of our employees, take care
of their family so that they willtake work hard to take care of our
customer, and then the business willfollow. So that's always our principle from
day one to now. And wewere very lucky. Within ten years we
grow from just a few people tonow we have thirteen million, over one
(14:09):
hundred and fifty steps, and sosustainment it's I don't see there's a difference,
but it just continued growth because justthis simple thing. Sure you know
first, Yeah, that makes alot of sense. And if you could
explain we touched on a little bitearlier in the interview. You are based
in False Church, but you haveoffices in San Antonio and in Dayton,
(14:31):
Ohio. How does that work withthe whole company and why those cities.
Well, we started in DC.Our first contract is action in San Antonio,
Texas. Okay, yeah, sothat's why we have a lot of
employee there and just the program itself, we grow from six people to thirty.
Over thirty and our customers go toanother organization within the same base he
(14:56):
he, and then he we wantto work it then because the reputation would
build. That's why we have anoffice in San Antonio and here in DC.
Most of our customers are like anight edge department or interiors or other
agencies and Noah ness our customer hereand then in Dayton it's we have a

lot of DoD work and that's whywe had people in Dayton as well.
Okay, Well, Sophie, ifwe could kind of put a bow in
our conversation and maybe just wrap upwith some final thoughts and then we'll give

people are looking for a job,I would like to say we are the
back company to work for. Wehave been named great place to work for
probably seven or eight years now,and then we are number ten top performing

small technology companies by Washington Business Journal. We are number eighteen largest women owned
small business and we are number eighteencorporate diversity in decks. So we provide
a lot of opportunities for talents theywant to thrive. And for example,

we have two vps. One shestarted as an EA for the government and
she grown within the company become theparty manager, program manager and eventually the
MVP. The other VP Solution EnterpriseSolutions. He started his career as a
technical recruiter. So if they aretalented to if they are talented, they

were given a lot the chances andwhatever they do, their work hard company
will recognize it. I love togive them a chance to grow. That's
that's a great sales pitch. Ithink that's great. So there is a
