Speaker 1 (00:02):
From major events to local headlines. This is Charleston's Morning
News on ninety four to three wsc now Back to
Kelly and Blaze.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Senator Lindsey Graham wants members of Congress to not be
paid during government shutdowns. Graham introduced a constitutional amendment on
Wednesday which would require that members of Congress forfeit their
paid during government shutdowns. Graham says that if members of
Congress were not paid during government shutdowns like other federal workers,
there would be less shutdowns than any shutdowns that did

(00:36):
happen would end quicker. Graham also says that not only
should members of Congress not be paid during shutdowns, but
their salaries during a shutdown should be used to pay
down the national debt. To pass the amendment, it would
need to be approved by a two thirds majority in
the House and Senate, and then ratified by at least
thirty eight states.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
They can't even vote to get the government back up,
and they're definitely not voting theirselves out of a pay That's.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
Why I'm like, you know, why couldn't she just introduce
a simple bill that makes it law instead of trying
to do a constitutional amendment. I mean, this is maybe
there's a reason for it, but why he proceeded that way,
But I don't know. It seems to me like it
would be a whole lot easier just to introduce a
bill making it a law rather than a constitutional amendment.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, they're not putting themselves out of a paycheck, and
we all know it. But you know, while he's at it,
I suppose why don't you add on there these non
essential workers, many of which there was an interesting conversation
shared during Clay and Buck yesterday of a guy who said,
my wife is one of these, you know, quote essential workers,
and then they're non essential and people are who are

(01:43):
She's one of them who's going to work without a paycheck.
But people who are you know, Trump derangement syndrome induced,
are not going saying we're going to get the man,
you know, and they're not going into work and they're
still going to get paid. And I don't know is
sticking In the Senate here, Jony Ernst actually talked about
the government shutdown, saying that while non essential workers aren't

(02:05):
required to work, they're going to get their back pay.
And it's to the tune of four hundred million dollars
every single work day, four hundred million dollars every single
work day, so he should put in this bill. Okay, Well,
if not essential workers or people who you know don't
actually show up to work, make this a part of

(02:25):
the requirement that they don't get paid either. If you're
not showing up to work, well you should not be paid.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
But it's not their fault.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
Well, I mean you could say you could make that
same case for these congressional types and the whole idea
of this bill.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
No, you could. I think it's apples and oranges. Now,
the politicians don't pay them, but the workers they're just
pawns in all of this, So I punish them because
of what the politicians do.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
Well, don't you think the people who actually show up
and continue to work should get paid but the ones
who choose to stay home not.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Well, I think that it's ridiculous that we're in this
situation to begin with and having this conversation right. Well, yeah,
but I also think, yeah, it's unfair to say, hey,
come in and I don't know we'll get around. If
you ever worked at a place like that where they
short you on your paycheck and you're always having to
argue over your money, Like I have. Radio used to
be rife with that, where it's like, hey, where's the

(03:28):
rest of my check? Oh sorry, we'll get that to
you on your next pay period.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Boy, that's that's way back. That's in the wayback machine,
like when it was a family owns type thing.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
So anyway, you know, I think it's unfair to punish
the workers for what the politicians do. And Lindsey, by
the way, is donating his He says he's donating his
paycheck to charity. But yeah, I don't think you should
punish the workers, and and the workers should show up
to work and do the right thing even though the

(04:03):
politicians are not doing the right thing.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
I'm still blown away by four hundred million dollars every
single work day. I don't think we can wrap our
head around the numbers that a thirty plus day shutdown, Now,
how it's going to affect the private sector, you know,
the public sector, and you know, not even just government workers.
I mean, thank goodness that our military got paid, but

(04:26):
that you know, it was at the hands of a
private donor that unfortunately became public. But I actually had
a conversation with someone in the military the other day
and they were like, we didn't think we were going
to get I was shocked when I check my account
balance and I said, well that was because of a
private donat that you got paid.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Well, the four hundred million dollars a day, it points out, like,
how blow did the government is? If we're spending four
hundred million dollars a day, it has nothing to do
with the shutdown. I'd be spending that anyway if the
government was.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
Open right well, and to be clear, Senator Joni Ernst
said that was just non essential workers. That four hundred
million dollar price tag per day was wow. So you
want to talk about bloat.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
It's Malibu's most wanted come to life. Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine
Crockett's willing to accept President Trump's challenge to take a
cognitive test. The Texas congresswoman has been a vocal critic
of the president. During her recent appearance on ABC's Jimmy
Kimmel Live, she knocked him for having time to troll
her with questions about her intelligence as the government shut

(05:26):
down continues. Her comments come after Trump counted the results
of a cognitive test he took during a physical exam
in early October, and he also accused Crockett of being
a low IQ person. Crockett said to Kimmel that the
people whom Trump derives as low IQ tend to be women,
and they tend to be women of color.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Of course, she made it about race, really engender.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
She's always making it about race. And she is like
Malibu's most wanted. She's like Jamie Kennedy as Brad Gluckman,
you know, b Rad in Malibu's most wanted. If you
look at her background, and if you look at how
well spoken she is prior to this latest, you know,

(06:12):
to her becoming you know, a congress person, you know,
she's very well spoken. She comes from an upper middle
class family, has a great education, and she acts like
she's from the streets, right and talks like she's from
the streets. Yeah, well, he's a fake.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Right, So this is this is going to peel back
that mask if she scores high IQ. So hmm, I mean,
she'll be exposed, I suppose, because she's not the what
she's pretending to be out here all hood and in
the streets and so on. So how does this work

(06:50):
in her favor? I don't know, other than trying to
call the president, you know, a racist and misogynist and
all this other ridiculous stuff.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Well, she's just sound running her mouth. And of course
the smarmy Jimmy Kimmel, like you know, gave her a
simple question off the cognitive test, and oh my gosh,
I don't know who's more irritating her or him.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I know, I was thinking, I don't should I go
back and watch this? And I don't even want to
give it a click to be honest, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
And always pulling out the race card, and of course,
you know, saying it's about women and women of color,
and you know, if I was a woman of color.
If I was, I'd be mad at her. I'd be
disgusted by her, and I am anyway, but especially if
you know I was the same race as her, I'd
be like, what are you doing right?

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Pretending to be a hood when she's you know, upper
middle class, like you mentioned, well educated, just fake?

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Well why do they all do that? Kamala does it? Hillary?
Does it? Listen to Hillary's accent with her hot sauce
in her purse and all of her bs. I mean,
how insulting. I agree, how racist and insulting these people are,
But nobody cares and good old blackface. Jimmy Kimmel up there,

(08:07):
you know, sharing a good laugh about Trump being a racist.
I mean, give me a break, these hypocrites. Hypocrites was
not the word I was going to use. Hey, good
Friday morning to you. Not only is it Friday, It's Halloween.
Happy Halloween. Congratulations to Christy Drinkard. She picked up a
family four pack of tickets to the Coastal Carolina Fair.

(08:29):
This is pretty cool, she said. She has two daughters
and their birthdays are a week apart, right around fair time,
Mackenzie and Lexi. So happy birthday, Mackenzie and Lexi. She
takes them to the fair every year for their birthday.
So this year she gets to do it on us.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
How perfect.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, So have fun Christy and Mackenzie and Lexi. So
Chicago's so dangerous that even the rats are moving out.
Chicago no longer has the dubious distinction of being the
country's most rat infested city. A study released by the
ORC and Pest Control Company is giving Los Angeles the
top spot way to Go LA. The change reportedly happened

(09:11):
due to weather patterns, urban infrastructure, and human behavior. Chicago's
held that title for the last ten years, but no more.
They're currently number two. New York's third, San Francisco is fourth.
Charleston thankfully does not make the list of the top
one hundred rat infested cities. Now. I have to say,
I think it didn't make the list just because of

(09:31):
its size, because we have some rats around here.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Rats the size of cats. You want to be spooked.
You ever see a warfrat scurry by at night, unsuspectingly scary,
literally to your core? Yeah, a warfrat the size of
an actual cat, which I have. You know, it's Gidro's expanded.
Congratulations Democrats, Karen Bass the mayor, Gruesome Newsom the governor.

(09:59):
And then you know, God forbid if you get Marxist
mayor mom DOMI next week in New York.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I just.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Between the urban infrastructure, the way that they've allowed it
to crumble, the human behavior you mentioned their sanctuary cities.
I mean, this is just I feel for the people
who live in I just keep saying, get out, get
out of those areas, get out of those cities.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yeah, and I don't know if you can blame all
that on the rat problem, but you know, every big
city has a rat problem.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
Okay, literally, the word rat is in Democrat, just saying,
just say.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
But I wonder if LA is celebrating they should at
their protests. Instead of wearing a dragon and other animal
and reptile costumes, maybe start wearing rat costumes and celebrate
their new.

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Title move over Dinosaur costume.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
Yeah, move over time, sure.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah yeah, I don't mind, not.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
To a great big rat. Uh. Anyway, So congratulations, Los Angeles.
We're proud of you.
