Speaker 2 (00:09):
In a Thursday edition the show approaching seven thirty. We
appreciate your listening. Here on ninety four to three WSC.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
We'll recovering this morning's top stories. Education Secretary Linda McMahon
is defending the Trump administration's request to cut fifteen percent
from her department's budget. The Education Secretary had contentious moments
with members of the House while testifying on Capitol Hill yesterday. McMahon,
who cited her three priorities for the department as school choice,

(00:38):
literacy rates, and returning education to the States. She emphasized
the request for a twelve billion dollar cut as President
Trump wants her to carry out the federal agency's final
mission and presidents looking to reduce to reduce most education areas,
including preschool grants and the Office of Civil Rights, while

(00:59):
seeking to increase funding for charter schools by sixty million dollars.
By the way, there, they're saying, and I found this
across multiple news sources, that they want a twelve billion
dollar cut, and that's a fifteen percent cut for the agency.
I looked up what the agency budget is. It's two

(01:20):
hundred and sixty eight billion dollars. What'sten to that two
hundred and sixty eight billion dollars for the Department of Education,
So a twelve billion dollar cut is not fifteen percent,
it's just over four percent.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Well, this is probably I don't know, if.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Somebody got it wrong and then everybody picked it up
from there. And it's ironic to me that it's the
Department of Education exactly and they're billing it as a
fifteen percent That twelve billion dollars is a fifteen percent cut,
and then their budget and this was last year. I
don't know what their budget is this year. Last year
was two hundred and sixty eight billion dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
So product of our failed education system. Maybe get the
math right for the road.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I don't know. I don't know, you know where the
numbers are coming from. Where they got the you know,
the fifteen percent from, But that was straight across all
these news sources. But I looked it up. Two hundred
and sixty eight billion dollars budget for the Department of
Education last year.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Well, for those who are touting this as you know,
oh my gosh, this is catastrophic. What is catastrophic is
what we've been doing that isn't working. That it's producing
children who can't read, you know, dismal graduation rates, can't
do math. I mean, these are the basics.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
All you have to do is look at the test
scores and education rankings throughout the world since the Jimmy
Carter administration created the Department of Education as a way
to you know, get those teachers' unions and get those
votes and turn them blue Democrat and look at just

(02:55):
the downhill slide of it all ever since they created
the Department of Education. So I think Trump's right in
wanting to get rid of it. That's why Linda McMahon
is saying, you know, this is the federal agency's final
mission is to kind of squeeze down. Now. I haven't
heard of any kind of timeline on when it's going
away of.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
You, No, I just know that the goal is to
put it back in the state's hands. I noticed McMahon
yesterday with her you know, there before Congress in front
of a microphone. She was really pushing parents to be
parents and take responsibility. Is that, though, Is that a
realistic ask? If we're talking about you know, potentially generationally

(03:36):
parents not knowing what it means to be a parent.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
I don't know about that. I think that, you know,
I'll tell you my own experience was that the kids
know that, you know, they have these they just sense
they're not like, oh, my teacher's a liberal dad, and
they're not going to like that, but they know that
they're going to be embarrassed. And I'm like, here's what

(03:59):
you tell your teacher, right, and and you laugh, But
you know, I'm like, i'd call out there bs and
write letters and say you know that's wrong, and here,
stand up, tell the teacher this. And they won't do
it because they don't want to be embarrassed in front
of the class. They don't want to be embarrassed by
the teacher.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Well I laughed, because I've been doing this my entire life,
and my mother was a teacher, so I've been standing
up and I'll never forget. I really, frankly, my GPA
was affected and suffered because I pushed back against my teachers.
And that was before I really had any kind of
political plant. But I mean, I just I won't forget

(04:39):
being shocked by some of the professors pushing back on me.
When I went to the College of Charleston, well, hello,
it's a liberal arts college. Here, I am, you know,
writing papers and turning around having to defend myself on
things that I thought, really I thought we were in,
you know, a place of education where you well, that's

(04:59):
what it's supposed to be about. Both sides are all
sides of a conversation.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Well, that's where you flesh out, you know, positions, but
not anymore. You have to follow them in lockstep or
you have to be made an example of. And I
mean this is even this was the case when I
was in decades in school, decades ago, well, so you know,
and it did not make for a fun time for

(05:25):
me in school. So you know, so when my kids
were in school and i'd encounter some of this stuff,
I was not a happy camper, let's put it that way.
But the kids feel like they're caught in the middle
of it, right, So they're not getting that you're standing
up for what's righteous or the integrity of education or

(05:49):
debate or anything else. They just feel put on the
spot and wish that you wouldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Well, in the end, I got the last laugh, actually
get a call back to back to the College of
Charleston to accept an alumni award for you know, having
my professional career and Edward R. Murrow Awards and all
these other things. And I just had to laugh. And
I got the phone call like which professor suggested this
for me? Because I'm shocked. I got so much pushback

(06:18):
on so many things. But anyway, that was it was
like vindication I didn't know was coming.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Now back to Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and plays.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
In today's top stories here at seven forty seven on
a Thursday edition of the show. OLPEM in the.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
United States is officially accepting a luxury jetliner from Qatar
to use his Air Force one. The Defense Department confirmed
the news on Wednesday. A spokesperson said Secretary of Defense
Pete Hanksath accepted a Boeing seven forty seven from the
Middle Eastern country in accordance with all federal rules and regulations.

(06:57):
They said the DoD will work to ensure pro for
security measures are considered for an aircraft used to transport
President Trump. It comes as Trump has faced criticism over
accepting the jet so.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
This was the subject of a big Fel Friday edition
at the Kelly Golden Show podcast on the I heard
app check it out this past Friday. I put Mark
Wayne Mullins on the Senator who called out and he's
the first that I could find who called out the
fact that out of Oklahoma, who said, hello, this is
this quite literally started under the Biden administration. So we

(07:33):
keep making this about Trump when it was it was
it was Biden's regime who started this in the first place,
started the accepting of the cutter craft.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
I was looking to see if I could grab the
audio here, but I think he's even Alma Jake Tapper
on CNN talking he said, wait a second. He said,
maybe this is breaking news to you and everybody else,
but this started out of the previous administration. These negotiations.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Well I'm kind of wondering why, you know, Trump went
through with it, to tell you the truth, and I
can't help but think, well, maybe there's something under the
facade that would force him to do that. Maybe he's
trying to embarrass Boeing. I mean, these you know, they
were already supposed to deliver two new Air Force ones

(08:20):
and they're way beyond their delivery date. And then now
they're only going to have one of them ready, maybe
by the end of his presidency. And is he really
going to come out and trash an American company like Boeing.
But they deserve to be embarrassed in a certain way

(08:40):
for not being able to perform here.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Well, I think that he's already embarrassed them on the
world stage. I mean, he quite literally was sitting next
to a Boeing representative when he was saying, you know,
we're disappointed.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Well, but he didn't trash them. He said, you know,
we're disappointed, and they're a great company and they fell
behind schedule, and so he kind of sugar coated the
message there. But maybe, you know, by accepting this, it
shows Boeing. Maybe there's something behind the scenes where he's like, see,
we can go to other places and maybe we'll cancel

(09:13):
our order. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes,
but I kind of questioned why he would choose the
optics of accepting this from a foreign country.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Well, again, it was already in the works, and I
don't know, we'll see where this goes.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
There's plenty in the works that are no longer in
the works because the president changed.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Well, well not this one. I mean, he's a full
steam ahead on it. And he even addressed it yesterday
there with the big blow up. I know we're going
to talk about here in the White House with the
South African president where the South Africa I don't have
a plan for you, but my goodness, he doubled triple
down on it, saying, yeah, we need an air force one. Yes,
it was accepted, so I optics are otherwise the plane

(10:00):
is the plane? Is it in our hands as of
this morning? I mean I saw some still still footage
of the or some still photos of this plane in
the air, but I don't know if we you know,
it's here yet or.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Not or yeah I saw how I'm not positive if
it's quite here yet. It was it was about to
be transported last year. I saw Pete hag Seth says
he has accepted it.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
So which it'll be stripped down. And you know a
lot of people say that, you know, they are concerns
of it being laden with spywear and all these other things.
I mean, this is ludicrous point.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Why is that a ludicrous point?

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Because we're clearly going as Pete Hagseeth has already said
that if it's Secretary and others here in Trump's cabinet
that these are to be stripped down. This plane will
be stripped down and completely revamped and thoroughly vetted, if
you will, quickest way to say that.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Okay, well, hopefully they do a good job of that.
But I don't think it's a ludicrous concern. Well, I
think that's an incredible concern. And I also think it
just looks bad.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
When I say ludicrous, I mean the idea that you.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
You said it was ludicrous.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
I mean that the idea that you actually think that
this administration is just going to accept a plane from
Qatar and just slap a you know, an American flag
on it and some blue paint and call it air Force. One.
Of course, it's going to be stripped down or retrofitted
in a fashion with which is going to be securing
the leader of the free world. That's going to be

(11:39):
taken with serious care.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
Well, I'm sure that it is. I know, you know,
I never thought that it wouldn't be. But I think
it's a concern to say, all right, we could be
in this aircraft the Chinese and not that you know,
cutter or the Chinese. You know, they're hiding devices to
spy on you in solar panels. And now I don't
know if you've seen these story they're putting stuff in

(12:01):
everything to try to spy on us and quite possibly
disrupt us in the future. So why would you know
Air Force one not be a concern? But I also think,
you know, it's bad optics for the President of the
United States to accept this gift from a foreign country.
And then already they're saying, well, Trump plans on developing

(12:24):
golf courses and resorts and all of these things in
the Middle East, and this is part of the payback.
And so it just feeds into that whole narrative, is
my point.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Now, Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and Blaze eight.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
Oh five, mew were day away, one more day, Blaze,
one more day.

Speaker 3 (12:43):
Oh it'll come and then it'll be gone like that.
Sadly enough, we're covering this morning's top stories. President Trump
confronted the president of South Africa for allegations of genocide
against white africaners face to face yesterday with reporters in
President and Cyril Ramaposa, President in the Oval office. Trump

(13:04):
played video clips he says proves there is genocide against
white africaners. Ramaposa has denied the allegations, telling Trump there's
a minority party behind the tensions between blacks and whites.
He went on to stress that he wants to sit
down and talk about the issue. South African native Elon
Musk has been an outspoken critic of the current government

(13:26):
and was also in attendance at that meeting.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
I noticed this morning, I think it's CBS here over
my shoulder on the National News. They started with this
is the second story in their stack, and they're continuing
to put out here that this, you know, is a
position from the president that isn't supported by any evidence.
That was quite literally what I just typed down a

(13:52):
direct quote from the anchor.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
They're going out of their way. I heard it all
over CNN and MSNBC yesterday. How this is fake news
and this was stories put out by the current government's
opposition and.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Unsourced video and news articles. Is what they said Trump throughout.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
There, and that you know, in that Trump attacked the
poor president of Africa, who was so happy to be here.
You know, Africa and the United States. South Africa and
the United States have had well, let's just say they're
not on the same footing and have had, you know,
tensions in the past. And then this guy comes hat

(14:30):
in hand obviously to work out a trade deal or
whatever he can to kind of save face for South
Africa with this administration, and Trump sits them down in
the Oval office, Jim's the lights and plays like a
five minute video showing the violence and then pulls out
the news stories. And the liberal left wing press did

(14:51):
not like that at all.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
Oh no, this was not something. Was that NBC the
reporter he called out, Peter was it? Peter is his name?
He just said. This is literally what the propaganda press
is running with this morning. It's making it about Trump,
making it about Trump's reaction, whether it's how he treated

(15:15):
the entire situation with like you said, bringing out the
video in the news articles by the stacks in his hand,
but the way that he treated the NBC reporter. They're
making it about him. This isn't about him. This is
about South African farmers who are being murdered, to which
the president there did say that, well, it's black farmers too,

(15:37):
President Ramaposa, And you know Trump has said many times
in front of a mic, it doesn't matter the color,
it's the murder. I mean, you talked about people being beheaded,
held up pictures of people who were murdered, and this has.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Been going on for a very long time in South Africa.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Your news, traffic, weather and information station. This is Charleston's
Morning News on ninety four to three WUSC. Now back
to Kelly and Blaze.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
Hey thirty, welcome in. We appreciate you listening here on
ninety four to three WSC.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
We're covering this morning's top stories. Hunter Biden is confirming
that he's not a fan of CNN anchor Jake Tapper.
Former President Biden's son said on a podcast that he
once told Tapper off after the anchor allegedly hounded him
over the deth of his brother, Bea. The two reportedly
went on to have a tense face to face at
the Super Bowl in twenty eighteen. Meanwhile, on a different podcast,

(16:38):
Tapper called Hunter unethical, sleazy, and prone to horrible decisions.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Interesting that comes out on a podcast as he's peddling
a book.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
I suppose two slimeballs going after each other exactly.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
Rest in peace, Jake Tapper's career. I mean, did you
watch she nailed shut the coffin on his career. When
it came to Megan Kelly and the sit down, I know,
he's making the pr rounds. You would think the guy
would prepare himself for an evisceration potentially from a bulldog
like you know, But Megan Kelly, I mean, she ripped

(17:14):
him to shreds for his pathetic hypocrisy. This book is peddling. Oh,
we were lied to. You lied, like, just changed those
words around. You lied to us, dude.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
Even the lying when it comes to even Hunter's laptop.
And that's why it's so amazing to hear them go
after each other. You know, Jake Tapper made excuses of
the Russian disinformation and then of course totally covered up
and attacked anybody who tried to call out Biden's lack

(17:50):
of you know, neural integrity to put.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
It a nice way, that's that is a very clean
way to put a put a pin in it of
a really dirty scoundrel. It's amazing to think.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
Yeah, then they write a cya book. Then he writes
a cy you know, to cover his behind, and he
writes this book and oh and now it's become the news.
And it reminds me of and these people have no shame.
And then he goes on the you know, the podcast
and talk show circuit to promote his book, same as
James Comy, who was on Coke Bear the other day

(18:31):
saying like, oh I my wife is like, why would
somebody put the address put their address in seashells on
the beach.

Speaker 2 (18:38):
That was his excuse that made Prime Time.

Speaker 3 (18:41):
To eighty six forty seven. He didn't know what it meant.
His wife thought it was somebody's address. I mean, these
people are slimeballs. They've been lying to us the whole
way through, and they think that they're still going to
be able to get away with it in a lot
of ways they do sadly. So, Megan Kelly did not
end Jake Tapper's career.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Oh Jake Tapper. Ending Jake Tapper's career, Well, he's the
c YA book and everything else.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
And well, what about Jake Tapper's career is over well
or even diminished.

Speaker 2 (19:11):
We'll see. We'll see with regards to the book sales
and deal. You know, the deal has already been done,
but we'll see about how the sales go. And you know,
they say any publicity is good publicity, even if it's
a negative, I suppose. So maybe in a way, all
of this attention, albeit negative and pointing out what a

(19:32):
buffoon he is, we'll turn around and make for big
money on this bottom line. I guess we shall see.
But I mean the sit down you mentioned, I just
want to say this about the Colbert say, did you
notice we're here? You've got James Comy. This is the
first time I actually heard him say with that sit

(19:52):
down with Colbert where he admitted to understanding the eighty
six meant off, Did you catch that? I was like, wait,
eight a second, that's the first I heard of that.
I thought you just thought it was some sort of
shell art. Then it was an address, his wife thought
it was an address, and then he admits that, oh, well,
maybe it's some sort of colorful political message. And you're

(20:16):
trying to tell me you didn't put two and two
together knowing eighty six men off. You admitted that, Well,
he's waitaging me. The political part of forty seven was,
you know, well he said.

Speaker 3 (20:27):
When he was young that like eighty six meant to
leave the theater or whatever if you didn't like the movie.
He said, that's eighty six this place or whatever is
how he put it, so he kind of, you know,
sanitized his understanding of it, even though he was the
head of the FBI. And it's even gang terminology, let
alone food and beverage terminology. And everybody knows what eighty

(20:50):
six means, but apparently James Comedy did not, and his
wife thought it was somebody's address. And then I saw
a good meme where somebody spelled out in seashells FAFO.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Oh, there's some great ones. Jor Don Junior shared one
as well. Trump one get over at something like that
spelled out in the seashells Coller.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Richard, he pointed this out. I did not know this.
We were talking about, you know this James Comy to
do with the eighty six forty seven people accusing him
of calling for the assassination of Donald Trump. We all
know what eighty six means, but where did eighty six
come from? I had no idea. Richard said, it's because
a coffin's eight feet long and you bury it six

(21:29):
feet deep. And so when you eighty six something, you
kill it and bury it.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Wow. Learn something new every day.
