Speaker 1 (00:02):
News headlines and the talk you need. This is Charleston's
Morning News with Kelly and Plays on ninety four to
three WSC.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
A major Republican does not want to give you any
tariff money, no tariff checks for you. Good Tuesday morning.
We're covering this morning's TOMP stories. Thanks for listening. A
Republican senator says the country cannot afford President Trump's proposed
tariff dividend checks. Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson called the President's
proposal to issue two thousand dollars tariff dividend checks for

(00:35):
working class Americans completely unacceptable. Not just unacceptable, completely unacceptable. Johnson,
who is leading fiscal hawk in the Senate, made the
claim during a recent interview with Fox Business in warning
that the nation could face a true trillion dollar deficit
this year alone. He also said government officials must start

(00:59):
focusing on that and doing something about it. Now. I
can agree with them there, but completely unacceptable to pass
out two thousand dollars dividend checks for the people that
have been pillaged by the former administration for all these years,
that have been hit hard by inflation and COVID and

(01:19):
high taxes and high insurance and high healthcare and by
the mess that these politicians made. And now he's saying
it's completely unacceptable to pass out any tariff dividend checks.
So I wish they would have been so responsible when
they were spending the money, and we wouldn't be in
that boat to begin with. But no, now you see

(01:42):
that the president is instituted of these tariffs that all
of them were against, and there's money coming into the coffers.
You can't have any of that. It would be totally
irresponsible to give you that money. We need to start
focusing on our debt. They weren't focused on our debt. Well,

(02:06):
I'll take that back. They were focused on our debt.
They were focused on driving us into debt, is what
they were doing. And then now that there's money flowing, oh,
that can't go to the American citizens. That has to
pay down the debt, although somehow I think that's not
going to happen either. Do you remember when there was

(02:30):
a surplus in the government Maybe you don't, back when
it was in the Clinton administration, and a lot of
people gave Bill Clinton credit for that. It was Newton
Kingrich who put all that together and the contract with
America and did all this, and they balanced the budget
and there was actually a surplus. Bill Clinton was a

(02:50):
smart enough political animal to go along with the whole thing.
But the issue of these checks came up, Well, there's
a surplus, so't share it with the American people. And
you know what Bill Clinton's answer was, I would hope
you would do the right thing with the money, but
we can't trust you to do that. Essentially, I'm paraphrasing,

(03:11):
because you can't be trusted with your own money. The
government has to tell you what to do with your money,
of course, because they're the only responsible ones. And those
people that put you, that put this country in debt
to the tune of what I don't even know what
it is now, thirty seven trillion dollars something like that.
Those people, Yeah, now they're calling for fiscal responsibility instead

(03:35):
of giving you a piece of the pie. And certainly
the pie can be divvied up, right, A lot of
it can go to the debt, and some of it
can go to the American citizen who has worked there,
you know what's off and a lot of them have
suffered to make ends meet and have lost their retirement,

(04:00):
have not been able to buy the house that they
were planning on buying, have tried to have had to
cobble together the cars they're driving because these politicians have
driven up literally the cost of education and the cost
of health care, and the cost of food, and the
cost of insurance, and the cost of housing and everything

(04:21):
else by their policies. But when it comes to sharing
these dividends of the tariffs that most of them were
against in the first place, you can't have any of that.
It would be completely unacceptable, according to Ron Johnson from Wisconsin,
So this afternoon expected to be one of the busiest

(04:42):
travel days of the year. Happy Tuesday morning to you.
Thanks for listening this morning. We're covering this morning's top
stories America's roads, skies, and trails, or rather rails, well
maybe the trails too, some people walk. I guess will
be busy this Thanksgiving. That's an understatement. In fact, Transportation
Secretary Sean Duffy said he expects the these Thanksgiving on
a record with seventy three million Americans on the road,

(05:04):
thirty one million in the skies, and one point two
million riding the rail. Duffy said the busiest times on
the road will be in the afternoon, later this afternoon, tomorrow,
and on Sunday, Duffy suggested that flyers dross appropriately, saying
proper attire makes people behave better at airports. I don't

(05:25):
know why I find that kind of comical in old
fashioned yes, make sure you dress up, you know, the
ladies should put on their skirts and nylons and high heels,
and men, make sure you wear a hat in your suit,
and everybody behave yourselves. Okay. I mean it's not bad advice,

(05:46):
it's not wrong, But I don't know why I find it,
you know, I guess because I'm just so jaded by
how disrespectful and rough's societies become that it seems antiquated
to me that you know, he's that, you know, to
hear this kind of advice, It's something you'd hear like

(06:08):
from you know, some fifties film burule or something. And
I know I'll have people go, you know here, that's uh,
he's absolutely right, and we need to bring civility back,
and we do. And I guess, you know, dressing dressing
up a little is a way to at least start
down that path of bringing civility back to society. Not

(06:31):
only the airports, but I don't know, you know, I've
seen some wild scenes in airports and I'm like, no
matter how people were dressed, I don't know if it
would have prevented that kind of crazy, because that's what
it is. It's just crazy, and some people out there
are are crazy and want to put it on display
for everybody to see, no matter how they're dressed or

(06:53):
how anybody else is dressed. So you know, you know,
I know some people like tone it down if you
notch when they're flying, show up in their pajamas their slippers,
make it as comfortable as they can. You know, I
always try to dress up a little bit, but I mean,
you have to be comfortable if you're going to be

(07:13):
and especially you know, when you have layovers and you
know it's going to be long flights and you're on
a couple different planes or even three different planes sometimes
and you're working your way through these airports and you're
on several different airplanes and it's a full day of
all of this. I mean, you need to be comfortable

(07:33):
but still show respect, so you know, So I'll leave
it at that. But anyway, it just struck me as like,
I don't know, I thought, you know, there's a commercial
during leave It to Beaver or something. We're reminding you
to dress appropriately when you fly, and maybe we can all,
you know, put on our suits and dresses and nylons
and smoke cigarettes and have cocktails and everybody laughs, eat

(07:54):
some orange peaking dock or something, and you know, have
a good time on your special airline flight. So first
there was I saw some videos of a seal. I
can't remember in what inlet it was. Was it breach inlet?
I think maybe? Well now A pair of golfers are
being praised after saving the life of a beached manatee

(08:15):
in the Low Country. On Saturday, two golfers at Cressing
Point Golf Club on a Hilton Hunta Island found a
beached manatee in the area of the ninth hole. The
Buford County Sheriff's Office and others traveled back and forth
on golf carts to bring buckets of water to keep
the manatees skin hydrated. The manatee was able to be
stabilized until the tide returned and allowed for the manatee

(08:37):
to slip back into the water. Authorities checking nearby inlets
after the tide came back and saw no signs of
the manatee, meaning it lengthly made its way back out
into the open water. Good news for the manatee. Now
I'm going to risk sounding extremely stupid. I didn't realize
we had seals and manatees around here. I've lived here

(09:00):
for thirty five years. I've never seen a seal. I've
never seen a manatee. So maybe for you natives, you're like,
oh men, see these people from off these radios. I
know we had manatees around here. How often do you
see a manatee? How often do you see a seal?

(09:21):
Maybe it happens more than I think, just because I
don't spend as much time out on the water as
I would like. But it was a surprise to me
first to see the seal. I think it was preaching.
Was that last week or the week before? And then
now this manatee down off of Hilton had so surprise

(09:43):
to me? Who else is surprised? Seven to two one
talk seven two two five five is the number of
the studio this morning, or you can hit me up
on talkback. If you're listening on the iHeartRadio app, just
hit that microphone. You'll have thirty seconds to leave me
a message.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Realise I wouldn't be too concerned. I've lived here sixty
five and I've never seen a seal or a manatee either,
so I don't know what you're freaking out about. But
it's no big deal. I've lived here all my life
never seen either, so get over it.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Oh I love those messages. I'm not freaking out, and okay,
I'll get over it. I'm just saying, you know, it
blew my mind kind of like, wow, we have manatee here,
not like I was sitting there like totally mind blown,
couldn't drive the car anymore, didn't know what to do

(10:36):
with myself. I couldn't get over it. My mind was blown,
like oh my god. Anyway, I just thought that it
was interesting this manateee down off a Hilton, and I
didn't realize that we, you know, we had some visiting
manatees here in the seals where the whole day come from.
