Check out our website ninety four three WUSC dot com.
Now back to Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and Blaze.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Oh boy, what a while weekend as we clear out,
Thank goodness, we saw a little bit of the sun yesterday.
We will see more sunny skies today. How long will
that hang around before our forecast change? As you get
back to the books and of course, uh, back to
work here this morning. We'll check the forecast and the
roadways every ten minutes. Just ahead here. On a Monday
(00:32):
edition of the show.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
The Kremlins, dashing hopes that the war in Ukraine will
end anytime soon. Appearing on NBC's Meet the Price, Russian
Foreign Minister Serje Lavrov said there's no meeting plan between
President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenski. Lavram said
key issues, including security guarantees and territorial disputes have yet
(00:55):
to be resolved. His comments come after President Trump said
he had sort of si up a meeting between the
two leaders. Trump also said Friday he'll know in two
weeks if he made any progress in bringing peace to Ukraine.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Well, that's a little disheartening to hear. I never know
really how much to believe though, when Russia's mouth starts moving.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well, yeah, I mean they're still setting up the negotiations,
so you know, I don't know, so they're kind of
set in the table of well we they're putting the
pressure on. Well, we still have to settle these disputed points.
Well that's disputed issues.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I thought it was interesting President Trump mark Ukraine's thirty
fourth independence Day with a letter to Zelensky and Zelensky
actually posted it on X over the weekend, and in
the letter, President Trump called it quote the moment to
bring an end to the senseless killing, and backed quote
(01:53):
you know, a negotiated settlement that leads to a durable,
lasting piece. So you know, for anyone out here thinks,
oh well, it was a bunch of pomp and circumstance.
And look, they haven't set a meeting yet, the President
worked through the weekend pinning this letter in an attempt
to say it's time to end the senseless killing. And
this was to Zelensky and Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader posted
(02:16):
it on X so we'll see. I mean, you've you've
got a lot going on behind the scenes that probably
aren't going to be reported or paid a whole lot
of attention to in the propaganda press. I mean, we
know they're going to put their spin on it, which
is the president will fail, which try to reckon that.
(02:37):
Who would want to root for failure here just because
President Trump is involved, No matter you're Trump derangement syndrome.
We're talking about peace and you know the end of
you know, senseless death.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well, that's with any war, right, So, and that's not
the first time he said that. He's said that the
whole way through. Now, whether these two leaders can come
to a meeting of the lines, that's yet to be seen.
Russia even wants a regime change in Ukraine, let alone
the territorial disputes and the issue of security.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Well heck, if the people of Ukraine can actually be
allowed to vote again, maybe they also want a regime change.
We don't even know. They haven't been able to vote, well, right,
but they can't well, so you know, Peaker.
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Constitution says that they can't hold an election while there's
a war going on. Right.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
This has been a point of contention in fact to
President Trump making you know a bit of a joke
about it, but there was seriousness to it about when
that Oval Office sit down was it last week? Cashtime's
flying here with you know, all the world leaders, frankly
including Zelensky, where he said, well, you know, if we
in this, we get peace, you know, people will go
(03:48):
back to being able to vote. It was almost like
a jab as if Zelensky may be concerned about the
idea that he wouldn't be elected by the people.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
So hmm, well, I'm and it would go probably a
long way with Ukrainian people if he were able to
Zelenski settle this war. And the Ukrainian people have gone
from a majority saying they wanted to fight Russia to
the end to now saying they want The majority now
says they want a deal. So they're fatigued by the war.
(04:18):
They want it to be over.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Yeah. I don't know if you caught. Vice President of Vance,
so JD. Vance was on NBC over the weekend and
his interview kind of turned into what some call are
reporting as a scorecard moment. So asked if Russia was
quote stringing President Trump along. He replied not at all.
He praised the significant concessions for the first time in
(04:42):
three and a half years of this conflict, so a
Russian strike recently hit a US own factory though in Ukraine.
I don't know if any people caught that report over
the weekend, so I don't know. You've got Lavrov, the
Russian foreign what is he? Foreign Minister Labra. He's denied
(05:03):
any wrongdoing, he said, Putin and Zelenski have you know,
no meeting planned, as you pointed out Blaze and insisted
that Putin still wants peace. But then he went on
to point fingers at European leaders and it got a
little messy there in the end, so we'll see.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I thought that they would have been armed already. National
Guard troops in Washington, DC are now carrying firearms. NBC
News is reporting the Guard members will carry service issued
M seventeen pistols, with a small number armed with M
four rifles. Defense Secretary Pete Hegsath has authorized the two
thousand troops in DC to begin carrying the weapons, although
(05:41):
Guard members will continue to focus their work on protecting
federal assets and providing a safe environment.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
I'm with you, who'd have thought that they were already armed.
I think a lot of people just assumed that they
would have their military issued firearms when patrolling and on duty.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
You would think so, but I think it was probably
kind of a political move not to do that. I'm
glad that now they've done that. I mean, I wouldn't
want to be out there patrolling the streets unarmed.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah. We talked about this. When I was there in
DC covering the inauguration. I mean, I came across some
metroped people who weren't even armed with firearms, and I'm like,
what in the world, Like, I couldn't believe it. I
was so thankful that the military was there. But now
I'm I'm trying to think back in some of the
instances where you know, I don't not sure if I
actually saw them walking around, not all of them. There
(06:38):
were many different you know, guards members and troops and
you know, different units from all over. So you know,
I certainly did see some people with their you know,
issued firearms, but others, many of them not. And I
was a little surprised.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Well, I think there were you know, relying on the
police for that protection because they're you know, they're in
concert with police. I don't believe that they're out there
on their own. I could be wrong, but I think
they're accompanying the police.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Well, and specifically to the whole point of carrying firearms
in d C, which you know civilians cannot do concealed
Carrie in d C. The I don't know if you
caught last week I believe might have been what's the
reporter's name that's dating Marjorie Taylor Green it' see a
Newsmax guy. I can't remember his name at the moment.
(07:34):
But he pressed the President in an Oval Office press
gaggle about you know, they're going on about the DC
crackdown on crime and making Washington safe again, and he said, well,
you revisit this with regards to carrying in the nation's
capital with civilian carrie. And the President said, you know,
(07:57):
I'm two way. You know that, you know, so he
hints around it a little bit, but I'd be curious
to see if that is actually something else coming on
the horizon.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Well maybe, you know, and they should. I mean, you're
you know, any citizenata have the right to protect themselves,
and if you're relying on the government to do it
for you, good luck. Vice President j. D Vance says
FBI raids targeting former Trump National security advisor John Bolton
were not conducted because of Bolton's criticism of the president.
(08:28):
Van said, well, classified records are part of the investigation.
There was a broad concern about Bolton. The former National
Security Advisor became a strong critic of President Trump after
he left the administration in twenty nineteen and had previously
been accused of leaking classified material. But an investigation over
that matter did not go anywhere.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, they dropped it under Joe Biden's regime. Interesting, why
is that?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
So? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
So I guess we're going to find out. But we
with the propaganda press of course. I mean listen to
how that's even written. It's like, oh, it's going after
his political you know, foes, anybody who speaks out, you know,
against him or which we know Bolton's seems his TDS
is pretty high actually follow his pushback not even just
(09:20):
penned in books, but he is a regular across the media.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Well, you have the right to do that. So what
they're trying to make an issue of is the president,
you know, weaponizing the Department of Justice and you know
which the FBI falls under. So is he going after
his political opponents that way? Now you can argue they
came after him that way, which is absolutely true, But
(09:45):
does that make it right for him to do the same,
and is he doing the same when he does this?
So the Vice President said, no, this is not because
of Bolton's criticism of the President. He said that there
was a broad concern about Bolton. He didn't elaborate on
what the broad concern was.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
Well, and we know, of course that nobody above the law.
Cash Battel, I mean, you know, whether it's the previous
administration or this one, they've both said that right, nobody
is above the law. And like you said, are they
weaponizing the three letter agencies? When it comes to the
Justice Department, I tend to should be no surprise I
(10:25):
would trust this Justice Department under a Cash Battel as
FBI Director than I would under the previous regime. And
oh gosh, I can't forget I never will forget his face.
But the former FBI director.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Robert Mueller or James kmy.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Well, by the way you mentioned Komy out, he's on
the list as well of people to be looked into.
And Cash Hotel and others have been really open about that.
So I'm curious what's going to come of that. I
know we're focused on Bolton, but komy, Oh boy, Christopher
Ray is the name I was thinking of former FBI
(11:04):
Director Ray, where he would stand before Congress through all
the law lawless, factless, reckless things that he did with
the FBI under the previous administration. Man, don't I didn't
trust that guy? And uh, you know I I'm trusting
and hopeful and certainly paying attention either way of what
(11:26):
comes of this under Cash Ptel as the director, because
we saw during the Senate confirmation hearings where this narrative
continued to oh, they're going to you know, Senate Democrats
would filibuster over this, so they're going to come after there.
You know, they're going to turn the politicize the three
letter agents, say the FBI and Cash Hotel very openly
(11:48):
and honestly said no, we're trying to do the opposite.
We're exposing the grift and let the American people see,
shine a light on this darkness and be done with it.
If nobody is above the law per the previous administration,
then yes, that's exactly right. We agree. So we'll see,
(12:10):
well what.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Did John Bolton do? So we need the details, right,
So there's reports that the FBI showed up both at
his house at seven am Saturday morning and at his
office and we're carrying out boxes of material and that
they were looking for classified documents.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
So investigators reopened this dormant probe into Bolton's it's the
allegations are that he used a private email to send
classified national security documents to his wife, his daughter. This
is from his work desk before his dismissal by the
Trumpet administration. This goes back to September of twenty nineteen.
(12:51):
That is straight from a senior US official. So that's
what the allegations are.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Well, we don't know that that's what the allegations are
applying to this raid. That's what the allegations have.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
Been in the past, the dormant probe, as I mentioned, Yes,
but we don't.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
Know that that's what was the impetus for this FBI
raid on Saturday. Maybe, but we don't know for sure yet.
We don't know much about it to tell you the truth,
So we need some more details on that story. And
you know, what is it that they think John Bolton
did and why did they raid his home in his office.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
Well, that's what Cash Bettel has reopened that dormant case,
and that's why the case was filed and started in
the first place. So we shall see drying out after
what turned out to be pretty wild flooding over the weekend.
Welcome in ninety four to three WUS, of course our
home for severe weather coverage. We'll check the forecast as
(13:50):
we get back to the books and workweek. Here in
a moment.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Did you see the guy riding the jet ski downtown?
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Oh? Yeah, posted on our social at nine four to
three ws SEE. Of course you had the usual suspects
of the kayakers the other things, but the jet ski
was a new one.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Yes. President Trump's borders are says. A federal order closing
Alligator Alcatraz will not stop them from detaining immigrants. Tom
Homan said Saturday a recent order closing the Florida Detainment
Center is not going to stop ice operations and that
federal authorities will continue making arrests. The judge ordered the
Everglades Detention Center to close within sixty days, and said
(14:28):
state and federal authorities broke several environmental laws as they
race to build the camp. The State of Florida has
appealed the injunction.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
They're going to continue to push back and fight. This
is what Rohn de Santis does. And here we go
again with yet another federal attorney or judge in this instance,
stymying and thwarting the process, jamming it all up.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
Well, and I would argue, you know, this is a
case to make against the bureaucracy. So when you have
all of these regulations and all of these rules, all
of these laws, they can come after you for any
which way they want to. So that's the design of
all of this. It's not to protect the environment, and
it's not to do all the lofty things that they
(15:13):
reportedly say that they're doing when they pass these laws
and regulations. It's to create another tool with which to
club you over the head with and come after you right.
Speaker 2 (15:26):
When you're you know, your politics don't fit and you
know to your point about they don't care about the environment.
And it's same too when they push back against the
conditions within Alligator Alcatraz for these detainees. They don't care
about the detainees either. I mean, this all is just
to me so obvious, but I I just I try
(15:50):
to get back get into the mindset of people who
are like, yeah, this is horrific, and you shall let
these people go. It's like, are you paying attention to
who these people are? I mean, when Tom Homan and
I say worst of the worst, they mean it. They
have a criminal record to back it up. So do
you want to invite these people to come live beside you?
(16:11):
Rapist murders, all kinds, you know, drug dealers, a cartel members,
on and on, all bad Well.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
It shouldn't have come to this to begin with. If
somebody had been doing their job and it had secured
the border in the first place, we wouldn't have to
worry about.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
This now exactly.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Well, this has been going on for decades and if
you remember, this happened under the Reagan administration, and they're like,
you know, if if you give these people citizenship and clemency,
then we're going to tighten down the border and we're
going to prevent this from happening again in the future.
Did they ever do that? No, they didn't, and then
(16:49):
the Biden administration used it to their advantage or to
their perceived advantage.
Speaker 2 (16:55):
Anyway, Well, we'll see where I mean, this'll be interesting
to see where it goes, because what's going to have
to happen here? Is it the judge shopping on the
Republicans part? I mean, we know that Governor Ron De Santis,
you know, is a conservative Republican, so you know, or
is this yet another thing where we're going to have
to use the same tools against them, just like in
the redistricting process.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
Well, we'll see how it plays out, and we'll see
if you know, this judge's injunction stands. Vice President JD.
Vance is defending the new congressional map recently approved by
the Texas Senate. Appearing on NBC's Meet the Press, Vance
claimed that democratic jerrymandering has made these redistricting efforts necessary.
Van said, all Republicans that are doing is trying to
(17:39):
make the national situation a little more fair. The Texas
Tribune says the map was adopted early Saturday on a
party line vote over fierce Democratic composition. President Trump had
called for the new map to increase the House majority
ahead of the midterm elections.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
I love the trolling on this one from Texas. By
the way, they called it the one big, beautiful map. Yeah,
absolutely fantastic, and.
Speaker 3 (18:06):
It's you know, in California, Gavin Newsom has vowed to
do the same thing, fight fire with fire and add
up to six seats in California and to counteract the
five seats that Texas is trying to add, except it
doesn't look like there's a political will to do that
in California.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
We'll see, Yeah, I hope to see him step on
a rake on that one, and that Californians finally actually
get a voice if their vote is free and fair.
There are many people in California that I know that
have stayed, tried so hard to stay as long as
they could, some who have fled, some who are here,
(18:46):
you know, under his horrible, feckless, reckless leadership, you know,
gruesome Newsome and you know, you know, Gavin Newsom didn't
want to hear this news that you know, Texas is
winning at the redistricting. And how well hypocritical of Gavin
by the way to say, oh, this is jerrymandering, but
vote for my jerrymandering. I mean, look at how the
(19:09):
script has been flipped when it comes to Democrats. They
were screaming, you know that it was Trump who didn't believe,
you know, the election results. And now they're the ones
out here that are like, oh my god, they're you know,
there is going to be an artificial victory next year
for Republicans because of this, Like they're the ones now
(19:30):
saying that you can't you know, believe the vote.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Well in Keem Jeffrey says that they may do this
in several other blue states to try to you know,
solidify the I don't remember how he put it, but
make sure that fairness was being distributed and to fight
fire with fire, and that they're going to try to
redistrict in Democrat states in Democrat states to you know,
(19:55):
try to counteract what's happening in Texas well.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
And by the way, Texas's governor is not the only
one who's going to redraw their district maps. Now you
got Ron de Santas out of Florida saying all right,
game on, so watch out Newsome and Hakeem Jeffries and
all these other short sided Democrats who are now apparently
the election deniers a year before a vote, oh boy,
(20:25):
because I mean, you look at just a few people
will say, oh, well Florida's red street and well they
have blue pockets. Look at Miami Dade. So that'll be
the Texas will move off the headlines and the next
will be the Sunshine State of Florida.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Well, I find it interestingly Democrats, with their open borders policy,
thought that they were letting a bunch of Democratic voters in, right,
and you know it's unintended consequences. It turns out that
a lot of these voters are not going to vote
Democrat right.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
They're very you know, raised with very conservative family lea values.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
So far looks like it may backfire in their face.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
