Speaker 1 (00:03):
Your news, traffic, weather, and information station. This is Charleston's
Morning News on ninety four to three WSC now back
to Kelly and Blaze.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Speaking of information, Elon Musk has been a tad quiet
these days. What's he up to?
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Well, we're covering this morning's top stories. Elon Musk is
suing the state of New York over its new hate
speech law. The Stop Hiding Hate Act, which became law
last December, requires social media companies to disclose how they
handle hate speech, racism, extremism, and disinformation. Musk, who owns
x formerly known as Twitter, filed suit in Manhattan Federal
(00:43):
Court on Tuesday, claiming the act as a violation of
state and federal laws guaranteeing free speech. The law goes
into effect this week, with Musk hoping the court will
block New York from enforcing it.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
How ironic a place like New York pushing back about
speech they are, Well, no surprise, I suppose in many
ways they're a bit of a communist state when it
comes to people's constitutional rights. And I'm thinking two way
at this point.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Well, here's the problem that you do have free speech,
and you have the right to offer your opinion and
some people may construe what you have to say differently
from the way that you meant it. And there's the
rub who gets to decide if your speech is hate
speech or racism or extremism or disinformation.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Well, apparently in this instance it's Elon and X.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Well that's what New York wants. And well, Elon Musk's
point is, you know what, we're not going to say.
We're not the police for you. You know, this is
a platform where people can practice free speech.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
You know what would be nice is if Zuckerberg and
others joined him in this pushback.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Yeah, it would be great if others joined.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Him, not just Elon, Like, there should be an entirety.
I don't know who else owns whichever platforms at this point.
I mean, listen, Trump owns true social But I don't
want to just to be Elon on trop Oh, here
we go. Maybe this is how they come back together
and make up. But then Zuckerberg needs to be out
there too. The giants out here who own these media
platforms should all be coming together with Elon on this.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
Well, look at the tyranny of this, like look at
across even in Canada, they'll arrest you now for expressing
your opinion. They were doing it in New Zealand. They
were doing it, I believe in Australia, was doing it
in England.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
So if you go online and say something, or even
to the town square and say something they don't like,
they're gonna throw your ass in jail. I mean, that's
unbelievable to me. And those people need to be stopped
dead in their tracks and quite literally.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Well and good for Elon for standing up here.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, so we'll see how that turns out, because of
course now it's going to be up to the judges.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Oh boy, we're running down today's top stories here on
ninety four to three. WSC appreciate you joining us.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
The Supreme Court is upholding a Tennessee law that restricts
gender transition care for miners and what's being viewed as
a major setback for transgender rights. The six' to three
ruling from The court will likely cause wide, impact as
twenty four other states have similar laws to the one In.
Tennessee the law bans gender transition, surgery puberty, blockers and hormone.
(03:35):
Therapy all three liberal judges were in. Dessent Chief John roberts,
wrote The tennessee law is not a form of sex
discrimination that would meet the criteria of being in violation
of the Fourteenth. Amendment this is.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
A simple one that returns the power back to the.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
States it's being framed as a major setback for transgender
rights children that we're talking. About this is not. Everybody
this is for, miners and we're talking about gender transition,
surgery puberty, blockers in hormone, therapy and the left and
the trannies and THE. Lgbtq WHILE i won't lump them all,
(04:16):
together so let's just keep it to the trannies and the.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Left the.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Tea they view this as a setback to transgender. Rights
stopping people from performing gender transition surgery or giving puberty
blockers or hormone therapy to, miners that's a setback to transgender.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
RIGHTS i think it's a setback to children in their, safety,
frankly and the ability for adults to protect. Them and
think about when did you start hearing about trans children
not growing? Up did anybody ever grow up we're around trans.
Children this was no, thing not until b exactly in the.
(05:01):
Office chalk it up to the redefining the whole cloth
you know in some instances making. UP i, mean we
could go down the rabbit hole of subjects on this,
one but it is disturbing their tactics to divide.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Us, frankly it's disturbing that they're standing up and saying
that this is a setback for transgender rights and that
by limiting what you can the abuse that you can
do to children is somehow a setback to transgender.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
RIGHTS i, MEAN i would agree with you seven to
two one talk eight, four, three, seven two five. FIVE
i even think the dissenting, opinion which we can talk about,
here coming up from the dissenting justices is, concerning to
say the very.
Speaker 3 (05:44):
Least so how's the trans community reacting to the? Decision
Karen lowie Or lowy, rather she's legal director Of Constitutional
law practice AT Lambda gender And Sensuality alliance At Tennessee Technological.
University here it was her reaction to The Supreme court.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
Decision, well you, know we may not agree with the
way The court characterized the arguments that we made and
the record that was before. It while it's hard to
stomach the characterization Of tennessee's law as not engaging in
sex discrimination on its face when it bans medical treatments
for adolescents assigned one sex at, birth while permitting the
(06:26):
same exact treatment for adolescence assigned a different sex at.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
BIRTH i think it is really important to again reiterate
that The Supreme court did not endorse the entirety of
the Lower court's. Ruling it did not mandate or even
green light other bans on gender affirming medical, care even
for young, people or other forms of. Discrimination it really
is about how it Viewed tennessee's ban in this specific.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Way, wow, well, yeah, exactly approach mish mash and stop
leave the kids. Alone, exactly creepy whatever you, are.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
It's a bridge too far when you came for the.
Kids our children are off limits to your political, whims
to your personal sexual, choices their.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Children, yeah and you know what if you want to
go lop off body parts and pretend you're a different
which is, whatever not even to get in all. That
you want to go lop off body parts and pretend
you're a, woman or you want to put on a
rubber suit with anatomically correct pieces to pretend you're a.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Man really is that what's? Happening?
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Oh, Yeah oh they have a like they wrapped their
bodies sometimes in these rubber suits that are very uncomfortable for,
them but it makes them Feel, now tell me that
this is not like mentally. Ill but you go right.
Ahead that's your right as an. Adult but leave the kids.
Alone and it's not a setback to, you Because tennessee
(08:01):
has a common sense law that says leave the kids.
Alone and they're banning not the surgery in, general not
puberty blockers or hormone therapy in. General they're blocking it for.
Minors and these leftists and trannies have a problem with that.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Well because we have a problem with the fact that
they're children and they must be. Protected the least, vulnerable you,
know the most, vulnerable the least among. Us they're not
your pawns to be used in this game that you are. Playing,
politically this is for, power this is for. Money this
is a Hard. No look at the dissenting opinions on,
(08:39):
this that we're abandoning transgendered children to political. Whims, no
this is your political. Whims it's the complete.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Opposite, yeah and it's not even POLITICAL i would say.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Whims It's, oh it's absolutely an attempt to gain power
and control and divide us most.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Definitely it's trying to spread their mental make everybody accept
their mental, illness if you and that's my. Opinion and
some people will, say, well that's that's just, wrong that's,
bigoted that's. Whatever it makes it. Insensitive, yeah, well you know,
what it's mental. Illness and they want to force everybody
to accept their mental, illness and not only and that's
(09:21):
not even going far enough because they've pretty much achieved.
That now they want you to say it's all right
to do it to the.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
Kids LIKE i, said, hard, no very much applaud this.
Decision and, frankly if you live in a state where
you have some trans kid who needs this surgery and
needs these you, know these, medications then guess What you're
allowed to move to another state now and get.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
It, well you, KNOW i think that it ought to
be across all fifty. States LIKE i, Said tennessee's not
banning it for. Adults they're only banning it for. Children
and you don't let children do a lot of. Things
you don't let them drink, alcohol you don't let them smoke,
cigarettes you don't let them get, tattoos you don't let
them sign a, contract you don't let them drive a.
Car you don't let them, Vote but it's okay to
(10:08):
make life changing decisions when it comes to lopping off
body parts and taking.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Hormones with, THAT i agree with. You but there will
be states that will allow this for whatever purpose other
THAN i mean most definitely because if there is enough
of a need out, there someone's going to provide the
service because money will be.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
Made. Well california is one of those, states and it's
a sanctuary state for doing this to. Children and there's
been cases where the parents are divorcing and one of
the parents takes the kid To california because the other
parent doesn't agree with allowing this surgery or, whatever so
they take them To, california And california protects that parent
(10:48):
and allows them to make these life changing decisions on
behalf of the child without the other parents.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Consent isn't a similar situation To elon musk story with
one of his. Kids isn't this one of the reasons
why he Left. California there was a fight with one
of his. CHILDREN i know that He's i'm gonna have
to look that falling out.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
With one of his trans. CHILDREN i don't know what
all the details.
Speaker 2 (11:15):
Are it was one of THE i. BELIEVE i thought
politically many reasons he Left. CALIFORNIA i mean.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Could, be BUT i mean think how horrible that. IS
i think if you're married to somebody and they're, like,
yeah you, know Little billy came to, me he wants
to Become, jane and you, know we need to lop
off his pep and give him some hormone therapy and
all of.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
THIS i do.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Believe and you're, like, no that's not going to. Happen
i'm not going to allow that to. Happen so they
take off and go To california and they do it,
anyway despite your.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Protestations, yeah there are stories out. THERE i don't have
them in front of, me BUT i know at least
one where a. Father you, know they were, like he's
on the. Lamb he kidnapped his kid because that was the.
Case his mouse wanted to to do, that and he was,
like this is. ABUSE i won't allow.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
It. Exactly, hey Good thursday morning to. YOU i hope
you're doing well this. Morning so there's two lessons to
be learned from this. Story crime doesn't, pay and neither
does the. LOTTERY A, Toledo ohio woman charged in the
theft of lottery tickets is pleading. Guilty authority say that
between twenty twenty three and twenty twenty, Four Tracy walls
(12:23):
stole nearly ninety thousand dollars worth of lottery tickets from her.
Workplace her workplace the Main stop convenience store In Williams, County.
Ohio according to, reports at one, point the defendant started
a fire inside the store to try to conceal her. Crimes.
Whoa wiles pleaded guilty to charges yesterday and will be
(12:44):
sentenced at a later. Date so obviously she didn't win very.
Much i'm in her ninety thousand dollars worth of lottery
tickets which she, won was a trip to.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Jail play stupid, games win stupid. Prizes, yeah starting a fire,
lord have mercy.
Speaker 3 (13:04):
To conceal her. Crimes i'm GUESSING i don't know the,
details But i'm guessing it involved burning the.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Lottery, yeah lighting up the box on fire there with
all the tickets in, it.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Right ninety thousand dollars.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
WORTH i, MEAN i don't. UNDERSTAND i realize being a
criminal often, means although there's some very smart criminals out,
there but you, know people who are breaking the law
aren't always doing. So h with the biggest brain cells
in the on the.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Planet, well, NO i, mean criminals tend to be, stupid
and there's probably a few smart ones out. There but
you know, what if you're crafty enough to get away
with doing a, crime then you're smart enough to go
make the money legally and not put yourself in that
(13:58):
kind of. Jeopardy shocking to, meet and she has some
risk assessment on. Yourself, yeah it was shocking to.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
Me she was able to get away with ninety thousand
dollars worth of this as she wasn't caught. Beforehand she
must have been in some way able to cover up
her crimes other than the. Fire because think about all
of these tickets and how they're tracked every, barcode every.
Number you, know she's on a camera every. Day clearly
(14:23):
she was flying under the radar. Somehow, YEAH i.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
MEAN i don't. Know maybe nobody was paying enough attention
at The mainstop convenience store In Williams, County.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
Ohio oh, fio, OHAYA i love.
