Speaker 1 (00:03):
Now Charleston's Morning News with Kelly and Blaze.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hey, good Tuesday morning to you. Thanks for being with
us this morning. I hope you're doing well covering this
morning's top stories. City of Charleston and St. Andrew's fire
crews have responded to a landfill fire in West Ashley
and at the bees Ferry landfill. The fire was reported
yesterday evening right after eight pm. Crews found a large
(00:27):
pile of metal on fire that was threatening a pile
of tires nearby. The fire produced a large amount of
smoke and was reported by many in the area, and
Charleston Police officers says the fire is a tough one
to manage because it's far from the nearest hydrant and
may burn for some time. The City of Charleston has
MATT response teams on the scene for air monitoring. The
(00:49):
South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has been
notified and is sending a representative to the scene later
this morning. The cause of the fire is still unknown,
so there was all kinds of talk about this and
West Ashley people were saying, oh, well, you know, if
it gets bad enough, they might ask people to evacuate
the area. I heard nothing about that, so that's just
(01:13):
people speculating. There was a huge plume of smoke you
could see it all the way from the Ravenel Bridge,
produced by this fire yesterday evening before the sun went down.
So you know, it's of course concerning because West Ashley
has grown and grown and grown. There's many residents there,
(01:33):
so much development, and of course that landfill. And then
it reminded me of you know, when they closed the
incinerator in the Neck area because they were saying it
was bad for that neighborhood, like around Rosemont and in
that area in the Neck, they closed the incinerator and
they started trucking all of that stuff to the bees
Ferry landfill, which only increased traffic and of course you know,
(01:58):
pollutes the ground instead of the so you know, it's
we have to do something with our waste. So you
know that begs the question what do we do? Do
we burn it? Do we bury it? Recycling is not
everything that they have that you hear about. You know,
(02:18):
there's so much of a con actually about recycling and
you think you're you know, doing the right thing and
separating your items and putting them in the recycle bin
and all of that, you'd be shocked at how much
of that goes into a landfill and does not get recycled.
So anyway, they have to figure out, you know, a
smarter way to handle waste than what they currently do.
(02:44):
President Trump and Secretary of State and Marco Rubio have
left the G seven summon in Canada do detentions in
the Middle East. Trump arrived in Canada Sunday and was
set to stay until Tuesday night. He met with the
leaders of Canada and the United Kingdom earlier Monday. During
his ceremonial photo op, Trump said he has to be
back as soon as you can. Earlier in the day,
(03:04):
Trump issued a warning untruth social saying everyone should immediately
evacuate Tehran. Israel has also issued an evacuation alert for
residents in northeast Tehran. In a post on x an
IDF spokesperson said quote in the coming hours, the IDF
will operate in the area in line with its actions
in recent days across Tehran to attack military facilities belonging
(03:27):
to the Iranian regime. Iran and Israel have been exchanging
strikes for four days now. Israel has reported twenty four deaths,
while Iran says two hundred and twenty four people have
been killed. President Trump has called for the two countries
to make a deal. He's meeting with his cabinet this
morning to discuss it in the situation room.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
This broke late last night. I started sharing what the
President said, and you know, out on truth, I get
out of Tehran.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Now.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
It was very concerning and disturbing. And I don't know if,
because this all happened so late, if anybody caught did
you catch Tucker Carlson. Tucker has hit back on Trump
and Maga, and Trump is responding to Tucker, calling him
KOOKI did you catch this? He was on Steve Bannon,
he was on Fox.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Yeah. Well, Tucker's you know, given Trump a hard time
for siding with Israels. I said, it's not about making America,
you know, making America great again or putting America first.
This is what Tucker was saying. Yeah, Trump said, Tucker,
go get yourself a network and then maybe people listen
to you.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yes, like what and who's at odds in the in
America first movement? Two weeks ago it's Elon Musk and
now it's Tucker.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Well, and then Trump also pointed out, I'm gonna have
to paraphrase because I don't have it up in front
of me. I didn't know you were going to bring
that up. That uh Trump said, you know what, stopping
Iran from having a nuclear weapon is putting America First
and making America great again.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
To paraphrase, Yeah, he just I mean in all caps,
he put it out there on true Social that Iran
cannot have a nuclear weapont tell KOOKI Tucker, Iran cannot
have a nuclear.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
He's been saying that for a long time. But you
know Tucker has a problem with supporting Israel for some reason.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Well, I mean he talks. He said on with Bannon
it last night that he suggested that you know, Trump
accepted cash from Cutter, and well, it goes on. I
mean it is. It's pretty in cyndiary, and there's a
lot to talk about a course with this story that's
(05:45):
kind of new from overnight. But you've got Marjorie Taylor
Green on the side with Tucker Carlson. I mean, anyway,
it's yet another wrinkle in the America First movement of
something that the left and Democrats are going to absolutely
run with. On the fracturing of the you know, Maga
movement and the first and it's it's one to follow.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Well, they can make a big deal about it all
they want. When you have a big tent, you know what,
people are going to disagree, right, that's what we see.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Would you rather be in.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
A tent where everybody, uh has it does disagree and
debates and hashes it out, or or just stays in
lockstep with ridiculous things down rabbit holes like men and
women's sports and you know, lopping off body parts of
children and everything else.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Right, and a man with who's not running of the
White House for the last four years. Yeah, I agree.
The president, you know, said fake news when it came
to Emmanuel Macrone saying that he was looking for a ceasefire,
he told Fox, I'm not looking for a ceasefire between
the two countries.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Well, so a lot of people are, you know, saying
these are ominous warnings and that we might be going
to war with an Lindsey gram is certainly you know,
the warhawk. Lindsay Graham is chiming in how there needs
to be regime change in Iran and says Trump should
go all in and helping take out Iran's nuclear program.
(07:14):
Helping Israel. Here, listen to Lindsey.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Graham, be all in President Trump and helping Israel eliminate
the nuclear threat.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
If we need to.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
Provide bombs to Israel, provide bombs. If we need to
fly planes with Israel, do joint operations. But here's the
bigger question. Wouldn't the world be better off if the
iototals went away and replaced by something better? Wouldn't Iran
be better off? Tom Cotton is coming on. He made
a great observation. The Endless War is a run. Since
nineteen seventy nine, they've been attacking the entire region, channing
(07:45):
death to America, death to Israel. Since they're very fine founding,
it's time to close the chapter on the Iran and
Iotolin his henchman. Let's close that chapter soon and start
a new chapter in the Mideast, one of tolerance, the hope,
and peace.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
Well, he's not wrong in his assessment of Iran. Ever
since they got rid of the Shaw of Iran and
deposed him and the Ayatolas took over. You know, Iran
has been a nation of US that supports terrorism, that
supports death to Israel and all of these things, so
(08:20):
they're not good actors.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
So few things he mentioned. The US has moved more
aircraft to the Mid East. Is the President warrens Tehran
to evacuate in all caps on social late last night,
You've got Defense Secretary Pete Hegseev saying that there were
you know, that's they're there. We're there these assets to
increase the US's defense posture. We've got over two hundred
(08:44):
people so far in Iran who apparently have been killed
from strikes. Meanwhile, twenty four people in Israel have died.
And there's a fracture in the America First Movement and
Party who don't agree with Lindsey Graham agree with what's
happening here with the President in Israel. And Tucker Carlson
is at the top of the list. I mean, he
(09:05):
was making the rounds Bannon. He was on Fox. He's
pretty upset that that Trump is doing this. He says,
you're the only person who can bring peace. You should
continue to try and do that. It's difficult, it takes
a long time, but your timetable is the only timetable
that matters. Don't get bum rush. You don't need to
(09:26):
fix this because there's political term oil in net and
Yahoo's coalition, he says in a quote there, it's not relevant.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
So this is Tucker saying, Tucker Carlson, you know, I
don't know, you know, I'm not for war, but what
we were just talking about with Iran being provocateers now
since nineteen seventy nine, so that's you know, forty five
years of this craziness and it needs to end. It's
(10:00):
easy for Tucker to say he doesn't live in Israel
and under the threat that the Israelis face every day,
the Middle East is in turmoil. Partly you could even
argue maybe mostly because of Iran. Now they're going to
develop a nuclear weapon and take that to a whole
new level. I can see why we can't let that
happen and why this president thinks that we should not
(10:21):
let this happen. So it's tough. I don't you know.
I would never be one that calls for going to war.
Lindsey Graham certainly has no problem with like killing people
and calling for the assassination of Putin and going off
and starting wars all over the place. But I kind
of agree with him on this one. We can't let
(10:43):
this maybe this is our opportunity to provide peace. And
so you know, so Tucker says, oh, well, it's not
on any time frame. Well, Tucker, it's been forty five
freaking years. So what kind of timeframe are you looking at?
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Talk A four, three, seven, five five. I'm curious if
it has driven some you know, Wedge and the America
first you know, supporting Trump movement here. I mean, people
are going after Tucker now saying he's a faked to
you make it Trump supporter. But you know, I'm I'm
curious how people feel about this this morning for those
(11:22):
who you know, this president is one of peace and
is literally all over the world attempting such whether it's
you know, take it to Roan, back it up to
Israel and Gaza, take it over to Ukraine. I mean
just weeks back, it was in India. I mean that
he is attempting peace, but sometimes that's through strength. But
(11:46):
that does a it is a cause for pause, and
it is concerning I certainly last night, I mean I
put these messages out and just said we need to pray.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Well, I mean, you know, there's you can't appease them,
and we've learned that lesson many times over through many
different situations. Of course, the most famous one is World
War two, and we wanted to we wanted peace and
we wanted to stay out of that conflict too, and
look where that got us, not to a good place.
(12:16):
We eventually got peace, but after what sixty million people
were killed. So sometimes you have to make tough decisions
and do what you don't want to do in order
to get the result that's best for everyone.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Locally west of the Ashley there along best Ferry Road,
Charleston County, dump had an overnight fire that landfill. It's
you said, dump too, get out of here with that.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
What are we calling it a dump?
Speaker 1 (12:45):
Really?
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I'm joking.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
We're calling like we're going to be politically correct. Now, Okay,
I'll put that and i'll put that over here in
the column. You know, someone asked me last night, so
I was at the American Legion. They said, what's going
on with that cohort of yours? Sometimes he can't decide
what side of things he wants to do. I said, listen,
this is the United States of America we're okay with.
Sometimes I think people take us a little too seriously,
(13:06):
and I like, you're making a joke about being politically
correct about the dump, right, but anyway that came up
last night.
Speaker 5 (13:13):
Yeah, well I can't help help people perceive exactly what
I have to say. Well, and a lot of people
perceive us in ways that we are not at all.
Like some people have called me liberal before.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
I'm like, wait what, I'm sorry, I'm not so sure
of myself so much so that I never would change
my mind or might ever be maybe on the fence
on some issue. Sorry, I'm not as smart as you,
unpliable as you in your position. See that seems whatever
(13:44):
I'm going to be mean here if I.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
Continue, well, no, it's okay because ignorant. Well, we in
asking questions, in getting answers, factual answers is what we do. Yes,
we also have opinions as well, and we invite you
and that's what we do every day, and thank God
for it in the United States of America. But you
know what, there's a division I mentioned Iran, I mentioned
(14:08):
the US involvement in this with Israel. There's a division
amongst Conservatives and Republicans on our footprint in this this escalation.
I mean, are we about to see World War three breakout?
In the mid East. Do we want to be a
part of that. I mean there's a fracture, a faction
(14:31):
of Republicans who don't want anything to do with us.
Speaker 2 (14:35):
Yeah. Well, and this is my point. Sometimes you should
wonder which side you should be on. And I'm assuming
they meant the debate, yeah they or even if it's
the political aisle like yeah, they weren't specific.
Speaker 3 (14:49):
I didn't have time to really talk. I was heading
into a nonprofit meeting.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
No matter what, it is, all right, Yeah, you should
take the time to consider things, and sometimes it's not
so cut and dry. And if you have an absolute, cemented,
cut and dry opinion of things, you're scary to me.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Well, it depends on what things. Sometimes I'm fine with
having an absolute, cemented opinion on things. But this is
why we do.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
What we do.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
My point is is that you can consider things and
sometimes you know, the correct answer does not reveal itself
so easily. So take this situation with Iran, I mean,
do we take care of this problem now or don't we?
Or you know it poses a question seven to two
one talks seven two on a two five five.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
Well, Benbery appreciate you joining us during morning drive Afternoon
Drive or twenty four seven three sixty five here on
ninety four to three WSC.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Yeah, the Trump Organization is announcing a new wireless phone
service called Trump Mobile. The organization hopes the news service
or arrival providers like T Mobile, Verizon AT and T.
The service will cost customers forty seven dollars and forty
five cents per month. Of course, it has to be gold.
A smartphone called the T one will cost five hundred
(16:07):
dollars and we'll launch in September. The phone will include
a gold colored metal case with an American flag on it.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
I don't know if I can wait till September. I
need a new phone. I love this. Five hundred bucks.
That's a third of what a regular, average new phone costs.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Well, there's been a lot of pushback, especially from the
liberal media, on whether that's achievable, whether they can even
offer a phone at any cost that is one hundred
percent produced in the United States, and then especially for
only five hundred dollars. They're saying it can't be done.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Well, and look at them taking the lead, the Trump
Organization taking the lead and saying here's how it can
be done. Hopefully others will follow suit.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Well, we'll see. I mean I want to see the
product first before I get all on board and cheerlead.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I know.
Speaker 3 (16:51):
That's why I said. I hate that I would have
to wait till September, but I'd like to be I
guess I don't mind being a guinea pig. And maybe
if it's a second phone, just in case, in case
it's a piece of crap. Well, no, I mean it's
I'll be the first one to say his phone sucks.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
Yeah, I mean, it'd be great if if it all
works as planned and it is what they say it is.
I'm just saying I'm going to reserve my opinion on
that until I get to try it out.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
That's all right.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
