Speaker 1 (00:00):
Entrepreneurship is not easy. I don't care what anybody says. Yes,
there can be tools we can use to simplify processes,
and we can certainly learn our craft better, and we
can collaborate and partner, but that doesn't mean that it's
going to be easy, right, and that's okay. We can
(00:22):
do hard things. But what leads us to successfully doing
the difficult thing of entrepreneurship is having and developing our
confidence as entrepreneurs. This is, without a doubt, one of
the most vital tools that we can have in our toolbox.
(00:46):
Entrepreneurial confidence is, in my opinion, as an entrepreneur and
as a business coach, the foundation that allows us to
take the right risks, the foundation that holds us as
we are making big decisions, and most importantly, the foundation
(01:07):
that allows us to quickly bounce back from setbacks. Now,
despite this, and I know this might sound super obvious
to you, like the gud, of course, entrepreneurial confidence does
all these things for us. We still struggle with it, right.
We struggle with self doubt. We'd struggle with fear of failure. Shit,
(01:29):
some of us struggle with fear of success, which we
can get into at another time. In this episode, I
want to talk about how we can overcome the hurdles
of lacking that entrepreneurial confidence and how we can build
unshakeable confidence through different mindset shifts. I'm going to give
(01:53):
you some daily practices. I'm going to give you tools.
You know, I love to give you actionable stuff. I
don't usually just sit here and like pret I want
to give you stuff. So, whether you're just starting out
in business or you are already an experienced entrepreneur, this
episode is going to help you. It's going to empower
(02:15):
you to take bolder risks, to become a more resilient leader,
and to cultivate that mindset of a successful entrepreneur. This
is Chats with gg a podcast for women who are
ready to step into their power, get unstuck, and create
more freedom in all areas of life. I'm your host,
(02:38):
GGDS certified life and business coach, media personality and multi
passionate entrepreneur. I've helped hundreds of women find the necessary clarity, confidence,
and courage to build their dream life and achieve success
with less stress. If you're seeking weekly motivation, practical and
(03:00):
spiritual advice, and tangible resources to scale in life and
in business, then you're in the right place. Are you ready?
Here we go, So, over my twenty years or twenty
plus years as an entrepreneur, and in my six to
seven years that I've been a business coach six to
(03:22):
seven something like that, around six to seven years, I've
seen self doubt present itself in so many different ways,
and so I want to start with that because understanding
what causes our self doubt in entrepreneurship is what's going
to help us to become more aware of it and
then be able to apply the shifts in mindset that
(03:45):
we'll talk about next, and be able to really stick
to the daily practices that build entrepreneurial confidence, which I'll
give you later on in the episode. So let's get
started with the triggers of self doubt and entrepreneur In
my experience as an entrepreneur and through what I've witnessed
as a business coach over six or however many years
(04:07):
I've been doing this. Now, what I can see most
of the time is the trigger of self doubts is
that we are looking for validation outside of ourselves, outside
of our intuition, outside of our own creative genius. What
do I mean by that. Let's say I work with
(04:30):
a lot of service based businesses, right, so I work
with a lot of coaches, I work with a lot
of consultants, stuff like that. You know you have a gift,
you know that there is an area that you can
shed some light on for your clients, your potential clients,
for you know, a group of people in our society.
And instead of once you get that experience, you know,
(04:54):
shutting away from the world and saying, how do I
want it to come off to the people that I
want to help, How do I want to deliver it,
how do I want it to feel? How do I
want to develop and create this? Right? Instead of doing
that internal questioning, we immediately head to Google and try
(05:17):
to find validation for the idea externally. And what ends
up happening is we end up seeing everybody else who's
already done it, right, like, who's going to buy it
from me? If so and so is already doing it
so well, we end up having that like the comparison syndrome,
right where it's like, well, look how they're doing it,
(05:38):
you know, and they're already they're already so successful at it,
So it's not just Number one, that you see somebody's
already doing it, but then you see how they're doing
it and how well they're doing it, and then either
that sets you off from doing it yourself or you
jump into trying to mirror what that person's what that
person is doing and how they're doing it right. And so,
(06:01):
of course you're going to doubt yourself in this process
because the core of it is yours. You know, you
want to help people in this space, but everything else
is coming from the outside. It's not coming from your self,
it's coming from everybody else. So yes, that's going to
trigger self doubt because you're not building from your self,
(06:26):
you're building from what somebody else is doing with your
idea already, and so I think that's a really big
trigger that. Then also when we do launch our idea,
when we do the thing however we decide to do it,
you get into that comparison, and that's another trigger for
(06:47):
self doubt. It is when you start to compare yourself
to how much farther along that are their entrepreneurs and
they have more followers than me, they get more engagement
than me, right, instead of comparing yourself to what did
you do last quarter, what worked and what didn't work,
and how can you, you know, double down on what
did work and improve what didn't work, and do that
(07:08):
comparison to yourself each quarter. Again, if it is not
for yourself, with yourself, by yourself, and I say the
word self like in big capital letters, then yes, it's
going to cause self doubt because it doesn't come from
the self. It is from the outside, right, And so
(07:32):
I think that that is the self doubt and the
triggers of self doubt are a really big part of
our entrepreneurial journey that sometimes we overlook because we're also
being told, well, you need to find market validation, and
you need to find what is it a? Do you
need to do market research or your idea before you
launch it and all this shit, And I don't disagree
(07:54):
with that. I do think that market research is important
and market validation is valid. But I believe that all
of that needs to be done after you've gotten this
download for your idea, right, you've got the spark for
your idea. I think the first thing you need to
do isn't market research or validation. It's to sit with
(08:16):
that idea just a little bit longer. Let it linger
savor it, really feel into it. How do you want
it to be, how do you want it to feel,
how do you want to deliver it? How do you
want to feel delivering it right? What does it need
to be? Who do you need to be for it?
(08:37):
And who will it help? Write those questions down? What
and how does it need to be? Who do you
need to be for it? And who and how does
it help? Right? When you sit with all that, you're
going to have a deeper understanding of your own idea
(08:59):
and you're going to have the differentiators from how somebody
else might be doing it right. None of us are
reinventing the wheel, and that's okay. You can still have
a multimillion dollar business teaching something that somebody else teaches.
How many financial advisors are out there, right? How many
doctors are out there? Don't we go for second opinions
(09:20):
all the time? I mean, I hope you do with
your doctors, right? And it's because different people, even if
they're in the same field, different people do things differently.
Nobody has your magic sauce, right, And even if you're
doing the same thing as somebody else in the same way,
which is impossible because you're not the same people. But
(09:42):
let's say that you were. Something as simple as the
human connection is going to differentiate you from that person, right,
some people may not like, let's say you and me
are coaching in exactly the same thing. We got the
same training, the same everything, which again is impossible, but
let's say we did. Some people may not want my loud, latina,
(10:03):
you know, over energetic way of being. It may completely
clash with them, and they may need a more quiet,
more soft spoken, more I don't know, whatever the fuck
the opposite of me is. They may need that in
order to feel safe, in order to feel comfortable sharing
(10:27):
themselves with another person. And so even if it was
possible for two people who do the same thing, right,
So let's say there's another media and business coach out
there who focuses on mindset and personal growth as an
important part of entrepreneurial success the way that I do.
There's still not me. She's still not you. Right, It's
(10:49):
why I love coaching coaches. I've had clients who tell me,
don't you worry about coaching other coaches and that they're
gonna like take your system like they can't. First of all,
they can't take systems because they could get sued, that's
number one, right. But second of all, even if they did,
they can't deliver them like I do. Right. And so
(11:10):
that's the first level that I have found to be
really common when it comes to self doubt and entrepreneurship. Right,
it's the triggers of self doubt, and it's the comparison.
And then the other layer of self doubt and entrepreneurship
that I see so often is being able to recognize
and to challenge your self limiting beliefs. I talk about
(11:34):
this so often, and it's one of the reasons that
I love coaching one on one because we often don't
know how much there really is happening in the background
of our subconscious mind that is affecting the decisions that
we make on a day to day. Right. And so
(11:55):
what do I mean by that? The beliefs that we
are given when we are young. Right, good things come
to those who wait, for example, do they? Though? Do they?
I don't know. The only thing that comes all the
time when I wait, maybe is like the bus or
something that's not that great. Right. Everything else that's great
has come from work, right, from taking action. But then
(12:18):
comes the other belief You need to work hard to
achieve success, do you, though, because I've achieved more when
I've worked smart than when I've worked hard. In fact,
what I have gotten the most of when I have
worked hard has been burnout and exhaustion, right and missing
(12:40):
out on things that matter so much to me, like
personal time, time with my family, right with my dog
before I had the kid, like these things are what
matter most, and so small beliefs like this, these are
really obvious ones that a lot of us have already
done work on right, Working hard doesn't always mean success,
(13:00):
and taking action is more important than just knowing the thing.
But there are other beliefs that are individual to each
of us that were given to us by our parents,
grandparents' circumstances, right, that exist that were first deposited into
our subconscious mind before the age of seven. So before
(13:22):
we could even understand what these beliefs were, we already
had them. Before we could even explain them, we already
believed them. They were already programmed into our subconscious mind
as a truth and reality of the existence in which
we live, because they were our reality at the time.
(13:43):
It was during the ages of zero to seven that
we are also witnessing the world and trying to understand
it as it is. We don't have the mental capacity
at that age to be able to say, are there
other possibilities? Could it be that what my mom is
saying is wrong? Like, we don't really ever do that
until we're in our mid to late teens, right early twenties,
(14:05):
and everybody's wrong except us. But in the meantime from
zero to seven, so many of our beliefs are given
to us and they become what we believe to be
the reality of the world. Right. And so for something
to be good, it must come through a lot of work, right,
And so we have ideas and beliefs about what relationships are,
(14:29):
how men are, how women are, what business means, what
it means for people to have a lot of money,
what people with a lot of money mean, Just all
these beliefs. And if you believe that in a subconscious level,
whatever that is, that is going to affect the actions
that you take, and if it is affecting the actions
(14:49):
that you take, then you must understand that considering the
fact that there are estimates that suggest ninety five percent
of human whan thought is subconscious and only five percent
of our thoughts are conscious, and that means that most
of the decisions that you're making, most of the action
(15:10):
that you're taking based on those decisions, most of the
emotions that we experience, which emotions are triggered by something
we see on the outside, it's all being processed by
your subconscious mind. Ninety percent is being controlled by your
subconscious mind. This is your fears, your values, your imagination,
your intuition, your long term memory, your beliefs, your emotions,
(15:34):
all of that, the way you view yourself right, the
control systems, even inside your body, everything is in your
subconscious mind. The only things that are in our conscious mind.
That five percent is doing things like critical thinking logical thinking.
But if critical thinking and logical thinking are also fueled
(15:55):
by our emotions or values, our fears, our beliefs, how
much are we really really in control of? Not that much? Right,
And so if we are unable to uncover and challenge
what our self limiting beliefs are and what our beliefs
(16:15):
in general are, that those that were given to us,
the ones that we're not really sure are there, the
white noise in our subconscious minds. The ninety five percent
making the decisions for us. Then we're not really in
as much control as we think we are, right, And
so that part of overcoming the self doubt of entrepreneurship
is also very very important. And so then that leads
(16:41):
us to actionable strategies, right, So what actionable strategies can
we take? And the first one I say is being
able to shift that mindset right, being able to develop
a mindset of growth and resilience right. And so that
revolves around being able to find the opportunity in setbacks.
(17:02):
That revolves around being able to develop resilience in the
face of entrepreneurial challenges. That means that when you quote
unquote fail, you know because your goal, your vision of
what you want to create, came from within, from your heart,
from your soul, from your intuition, from your core, from
the impact that you believe that is a part of
(17:24):
your dharma, that is a part of your mission on
this planet, that a quote unquote failure is only an
opportunity to do it better when it all comes from within.
It's how you develop the resilience Because when you're failing
because you're imitating what everybody else it's doing, then it's
easy to feel like a failure because none of it
(17:44):
is yours, and it's difficult to find the learning because
you're just imitating what somebody else is doing. You don't
understand the why somebody else is doing it. This is
one of the things. And just as a little side
what is the word I want to use here? Sidetrack here, sidebar,
sidebar whatever, I'm going to go off into another topic.
(18:05):
This is one of the things that those clients and
people in our tribe and are seizing happy tribe, in
our community, in our circle love about Extraordinary my private feed.
One of the things that I get the most about.
One of the compliments I get the most. One of
the testimonials I get the most about Extraordinary is that
(18:28):
it doesn't tell you the how to do the thing.
It teaches you how to think about the thing. Whatever
the thing is, the problem, the expansion and the lack
of sales, whatever it is right, And it's in developing
the ability to think for yourself, to develop that the
connections in your brain between what you want, what you desire,
(18:49):
how to get it, in the tools, the resources available
to you, et cetera, that you really develop resilience, because
then the foundation is you the inspiration is you, the
core is you, the sauce it is you, the essence
of it is you. And then all you need to
seek outside are just the tools. But you're going to
get the right tools if you know exactly what you're building.
(19:10):
If I'm not sure what I'm building, if I don't
know whether I'm building a table out of wood or
out of metal, how do I get the right tools.
I need different tools to forge metal than I do
to do carpentry for wood, right, And so it is
imperative that, aside from having that growth mindset right, and
(19:31):
this second section of what we're talking about right with
the growth and the resilience, the growth mindset is important.
The developing of the resilience to be able to face
and overcome those entrepreneurial challenges comes from being able to
first develop from within so that the challenges can feel
like opportunities, opportunities for growth for doing it better, for
(19:55):
getting one step closer to that big goal that you have,
for getting one step closer to that big vision that
you have for yourself and for the world as you
impact it with your talents, with your gifts. Right. Another
element of this section that I think is really important
about growth and resilience is being able to truly embrace uncertainty,
(20:17):
being able to really understand that even when you're developing
from within, even when you're doing it from the heart,
following your intuitive compass, which is something I talk about
and coach on with my clients all the time. Even
when you're doing that and taking calculated risks based on
that intuitive compass, there is always going to be uncertainty
(20:40):
and you need to be able to embrace that. And
so ultimately that comes with a level of courage that
is also important and takes me back to a lot
of what we do in Extraordinary, which is learning how
to see the thing, whether it's the path, the decision
to launch, with clarity and objectivity, so that then you
can use your intuitive compass yours, not mine, yours, to
(21:04):
be able to find the best path for yourself. Right.
And so, by the way, I'll include a link to
Extraordinary in the show notes for this, so in case
you want to check that out, you can jump into
that private feed as well. It's amazing. I love sharing
it with you and I love hearing from everyone that's
on there. There takes about the episodes. It's always It's
(21:25):
definitely become one of my favorite offers that I do
inside Seizing Happy and all the things that we do
with them with this company. But anyway, the ability to
embrace uncertainty, to embrace that, entrepreneurship, like life, is a
continuous process of adaptation to whatever the changes are, the
(21:46):
changes in the market, the changes in your buyer, the
changes in yourself, the changes in your life that affect
how you do business, and what elements of your business
you need to change, shift or just toss out altogether.
You need to be able to embrace that. Embracing uncertainty
also is rooted in confidence, the confidence that the decisions
that you make are the best ones for you in
(22:07):
that moment, and that if anything should change, that you
are confident enough to make the next best decision, and
that that's all you can do, and that that's all
you need to do, is just make the next best
decision for you in this moment right now. That's all right.
And so in these first two I guess sections of
(22:34):
developing enhancing growing your entrepreneurial confidence. First is that necessity
to overcome self doubt, to understand the triggers of your
self doubt, to be able to recognize those limiting beliefs. Right.
Then comes in that shifting of your mindset, developing growth
and resilience, a growth mindset and resilience to be able
(22:57):
to transform the way that your approach your business, to
be able to develop resilience when it comes to all
the entrepreneurial challenges, to be able to learn to embrace
with confidence the fact that uncertainty and non guarantees are
the only thing that is guaranteed. Right. And then the
last thing that I want to leave you with are
(23:17):
actual practices, right, like some tools that I use, some
tools that some of my clients have shared with me
that are really useful. And so the first thing is,
and I mentioned this in the beginning, but I'm going
to mention it again because it's super important. Go within first.
Always go within first. Don't ask your coach, don't ask me,
don't ask Google, don't ask your friend, don't ask your mom,
don't ask your business best you, don't ask your mentor,
(23:39):
don't fucking ask anybody but yourself. And ask the three
questions that I posed before. That's always going to be
number one, Right. The second thing that's really important is
mindfulness and being in the moment, at that moment, being
able to reflect back to yourself what it is your
true feeling is going to boost your confidence because it's
(24:02):
going to help you to spot your own bullshit. A
lot of the times when it's time to make a decision,
what we're flooded with our emotions and fears, not the
actual facts about the decision that we're trying to make,
or even the evidence that shows us which decision to make.
Because what our nervous system wants to do first and
foremost for us is it wants to tell us stay
(24:25):
where you are. We know this, We don't know that
over there. We don't know what will come after you
make this decision, and the unknown is dangerous. The unknown
could be the saber tooth. Right, this is the way
our nervous system is still archaic in the way that
it protects us. And that's good. It's good to have
(24:45):
a nervous system that protects us, right, but we just
got to know that it's protecting us from things that
no longer exist. The saber toothing here no more. And
so when you're making these decisions and you're looking within first,
then when you're making the decision from. So first you
(25:06):
find what is within right, like, what is it that
you actually want to do, how do you want it
to feel, what do you want it to be, what
do you want it to do? What do you want
to do it for? That core sauce the thing that
comes from you uniquely you, your gift, your abilities, your talent,
the reason you were put on this earth, the reason
you chose to come to this incarnation. Right when you
find that, and then it's time to make a decision.
(25:29):
You make the decision based on the evidence of all
the other choices you've made before. They've all turned out well,
even the ones that felt like they didn't turn out well,
they did. You solved it right. You can focus on
self reflection when you're having the fear. Is this fear real?
Nine times out of ten, it's not being in the
moment when you're making the decision. In other words, instead
(25:50):
of worrying about what if it doesn't work, what if
it doesn't sell, what if nobody buys it? What if
you focus on the moment, being mindful of the moment
right now. What resources do I have to launch? What
resources do I have to sell? What resources do I
have to make it impactful right because that is the truth.
The truth is what you have and what you can
do right now in this moment. What's over there is
(26:13):
just worry and concern and worry and concern about the future.
Fears about the future can't change the future anyway. And
so instead of employing your energy on the future, on
the worry, what if, what if utilize that energy, channel
that energy into right now, right now, right now? What
can I do today? What resources do I have right now?
(26:33):
Who can I call right now? What communities can I
tap into? Where is my network that I could sell
this to that I could talk about this with right now,
right And when you're in that right now moment making
decisions based on right now, and you're being honest and
kind to yourself with the self reflection of what am
(26:54):
I truly feeling and realizing that nine times out of
ten it's fear and worry, then you're going to boost
your dis making skills because you're going to bring that
fear and worry. You're gonna you're going to transmute that
fear and worry. That energy that's buzzing with fear and worry.
You can transmute that into Okay, let me bring that
into right nowness, into mindfulness, into being here, to finding
(27:14):
the resources and tools I have right now, solve that itselves,
sol that people buy. Solve that it works right. When
you can transmute that, that will immediately boost your decision
making skills. Right. So, then that takes us into something
that I truly love, and that is the visualization of
your future self and bringing that into your current moment.
(27:39):
I do this a lot inside my three R system.
If that's not a program that you've taken with me,
I highly recommend that you do. I'll link it in
the show notes as well. It's so powerful to be
able to visualize what you want and then to find
the anchors in that visualization, to find the moments, the behaviors,
(27:59):
the thoughts, the little things in that visualization that can
bring that you can bring into your present now to
show up as that future version of yourself today so
that you can start actively shaping that entrepreneurial success that
you want immediately. And once you feel closer to that
(28:20):
quote unquote future self, when you're bringing her into your present,
you're going to feel more empowered and stronger also about
your decision making skills, right, and then to wrap up
your accountability, whether you're self accountable, some people can be
self accountable. I'm actually teaching a workshop for Broward County
on accountability, so I wanted to include that here. Also,
(28:44):
accountability is imperative. If you can't hold yourself accountable, you
need to find somebody to hold you accountable, right. This
is also we're having a one on one coach comes in.
This is also we're having somebody who can call you
out on your bullshit and not so much remind you,
but hold you accountable, which is completely different about what
it is you're trying to do. What you're meant to do.
(29:05):
Is also key to your success. This is the role
of mentors or having a support system. Being inside the
seizing Happy Hybrid community is another way that you can
have accountability with the other members in there supporting each
other to do the thing you want to do. Right.
And so I'm hoping that you have some sort of
takeaway from this episode about how to boost your entrepreneurial
(29:29):
confidence because that is the foundation to our ultimate success.
That is the foundation to the most important thing that
we need to be able to succeed. I believe your
entrepreneurial confidence is something that will grow with you as
you continue. I don't expect anyone in the beginning of
their journey to feel one hundred percent confident. Okay, I'm
twenty years into entrepreneurship and I don't feel one hundred
(29:50):
percent confident. But I feel some sort of confidence because
I initiate every decision that I make with myself in
this moment right now, based on the truth, not on
my fears, not on my doubt right and I'm really
self aware of what's happening, and you can be too. Right,
utilizing the tools and everything that I've provided in this
episode should be helpful if you implement right, and so
(30:12):
I'd love to hear your takeaways. I think now Spotify.
If you're listening on Spotify, I think it gives us
an opportunity for you to share your thoughts, your hause
and takeaways and some sort of like comments in the episode.
If not, if you're insider seizing Happy Hybrid community in there,
we have the Chats with GG section where the podcast
loads all the time and you can tell me about
(30:34):
your favorite episodes and your takeaways from each one. So
I can't wait to talk with you and hear your
takeaways on everything we talked about in this episode, and
I hope that it was helpful. Thanks for listening, and
if you loved this episode of Chats with gg be
