In this episode of 'Chats with GiGi,' host GiGi Diaz reflects on the meaning of freedom as an entrepreneur.

Coming from a background where freedom was scarce, she shares how living in the United States has allowed her to appreciate the liberty to speak, think, and act freely. Focusing on the 4th of July, she discusses the common entrepreneurial desire for time, financial, and creative freedom, and questions whether business owners are creating their ventures from a place of genuine freedom or merely following someone else’s success template.

GiGi emphasizes the importance of identity evolution over outcome obsession and explores how shifting from pressure to curiosity can alleviate stress and fuel creativity. She invites listeners to reflect on what true entrepreneurial freedom means for them, offering practical advice on building a business that aligns with one’s personal values and desired lifestyle.

Listen in for insights on crafting a business structure that supports not just financial success, but personal fulfillment as well.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
With Independence Day fourth of July here, I've been thinking
a lot about freedom. I come from a communist country
where we don't have freedom. We don't have freedom of speech,
we don't have the freedom to lead the lives that
we desire, We don't have a freedom to open our
dream businesses and even to travel for leisure. Right, and
being in the United States and being given back that

(00:22):
freedom has been something I never take for granted. Their
freedom to think freely, to speak freely, and to be
freely myself, and most importantly and as an entrepreneur, their
freedom to pursue my dreams, their freedom to pursue my passions,
and the things that bring joy to my soul, the
things that truly light me up inside, the things that

(00:44):
keep me walking in my purpose, whether that be for
entrepreneurial purposes or that be for personal purposes. I just
feel like freedom is, or having freedom is something that
we take for granted, and it is the most beautiful
state of human existence is to have freedom, right, the
freedom to feel and do and be and have whatever

(01:07):
you desire. And so in this episode of the Chats
with GG podcast, I want to talk about freedom as
it pertains to entrepreneurship and how we get into entrepreneurship
for freedom. We talk about it all the time. We
want time freedom and financial freedom. We talk about these
things all the time, but we end up giving up
our freedom. We end up giving up our freedom so

(01:29):
much and so early on in our entrepreneurship journey that
sometimes we don't even realize that we've done so. And So,
if you've been feeling like your business is kind of
weighing you down, if you've been feeling like perhaps you
started something really powerful with a lot of grit and
desire in your heart, and now you're just not quite

(01:51):
sure which way it's going, You're not really sure if
it's even what you want to do anymore. I encourage
you to listen to this episode with an open hearts
and an open mind and judgment free and see what
lands for you, if anything at all. If something does land,
I'd love to hear about it, So let me know
on our Instagram at Seizing Happy. This is Chats with

(02:13):
gg a podcast for women who are ready to step
into their power, get unstuck, and create more freedom in
all areas of life. I'm your host, GGDZ certified Life
and Business coach, media personality and multi passionate entrepreneur. I've
helped hundreds of women find the necessary clarity, confidence, and

(02:37):
courage to build their dream life and achieve success with
less stress. If you're seeking weekly motivation, practical and spiritual advice,
and tangible resources to scale in life and in business,
then you're in the right place. Are you ready? Here
we go. So here's the thing. We get into entrepreneurship

(03:02):
and we talk about it all the time. We want
time freedom, we want financial freedom, we want creative freedom.
That was a big one for me. And we want
to be able to have our businesses support the lifestyles
that we want. Right and as we approach the fourth
of July, a celebration of independence, a celebration of doing

(03:23):
the things we love and being in a place where
we have the freedom, the freedom to create the life
that we want, I want to dive into how this
pertains to entrepreneurship. And I want to start by talking
about what I like to call the myth of the mold. Right.
And so we get into entrepreneurship and we're like, I

(03:45):
want to build a business where I can do X,
Y and Z, And instead of really diving into what
entrepreneurship is, which is the freedom to create your dream
structure of business. We end up following success templates. We
end up looking at what somebody else has done, and

(04:06):
we want to replicate what that person did. Right, And
I don't I know for sure that this doesn't work. Now, listen,
listen closely, because I want to make a distinction here.
There's a difference between when you want to learn a
skill and there's somebody who knows that skill, and you

(04:28):
hire that person to teach you that skill, whether it
is marketing or you know, videography or content creation or
script writing. These are elements that you use. These are
tools that you use in your business. Right. I'm not
talking about that those are those are perfectly good hires

(04:50):
and outsources and things to learn to do. Right. That
is not the same as following somebody else's success template. Right.
What I mean when we're talking about out following somebody
else's success template is, for example, let's say that you
see this coach who talks about the importance of having
I don't know, multiple low ticket offers. This coach no

(05:13):
longer wants to do one too once she doesn't sell
any high tickets what works for her is low tickets,
and so she launches or he could be a he
also I guess you know, several low ticket offers every
single month, and he or she is making I don't know,
a million dollars a year, two three million, whatever it is, right,

(05:34):
shit ton of money. Immediately you're like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
that sounds great. I want to do that. So you're
you're now adjusting your business to their success template what
worked for them. But did you ever stop to think
will this work for me? Do I have the creative
capacity to be constantly coming up with monthly low ticket offers?

(05:57):
Do I have the audience that the the number of
people that are required in order for a low ticket offer,
let's say something between I don't know, fifteen one hundred
dollars to make you several five figures a month, so
that you can be making that million dollars at the
end of the year, right, Or alternatively, if you don't

(06:20):
have the audience, do you have the ad spend money? Right?
Is your messaging so good and so clear already that
if you put let's say ten twenty thousand dollars behind
ads that then you can get that traffic to then
sell you know, I don't know, ten thousand dollars a
month worth of low ticket offers, right? Have you considered

(06:43):
what it takes to create these low ticket offers when
it comes to you know, delivery and structures. Have you
considered that maybe what brings you joy and entrepreneurship is
not being far away from your clients right where this
person may not want the proximity that perhaps you do
that perhaps you're more of a people person, right, Or

(07:04):
we go the complete other route, We go the completer
other route where people are like, you know, it's the retreats.
You got to do the retreats and have all these
people come in person, or do events? Right, you got
to do the events and have you know, two hundred
people come to the events. And you're like, yeah, that
sounds great, super profitable. I want to do that too,
But like, do you enjoy that? Do you know the
amount of time? I mean I put together MBG every

(07:26):
single year, Move Brief Grow. It is Florida's number one
event for women entrepreneurs. I freaking love doing that event.
But I've also been doing events for over twenty years.
Putting an event together for me is a lot simpler
than it is for most people, because by this point
it's become second nature. Right. But I also don't have
my entire business structure based on that, because even though

(07:49):
this is a skill that I've developed that is now
relatively simple for me to do and to repeat, it
still takes a lot of work, effort, time to put
together an in person event. So no, it's not something
that I want to do every month. It's not something
that I want to even do a recorder. I do
it once a year, and that's it. I don't have.

(08:10):
That's not the type of structure that I want for
my business. Right. And then let's say, you know, somebody
tells you, oh, it's not one to one, it's group.
And this is actually an example I love to give
because I believe that the best way to scale your
business is switching over from one to one to group,
one to many, right, And I'll get into that explanation

(08:34):
very briefly. It's simple because if you look at your calendar,
Let's say that you want to serve, you want to
work four hours a day, right, You're going to see
four one to one clients a day. And let's say
you're going to work Monday through Thursday. You want Fridays
off right to spend the weekend with the family, maybe
do some short little getaways here and there. You know,

(08:56):
what is your retainer for one to one clients to
serve them, let's say once a week or twice a month,
that to be able to make the amount of money
that you want to make. And you're going to cap
out at some point because if you only want to work,
even if you're working five days out of the week,
there's only so much energy that you can pour into
on a one to one scale that if you're not

(09:16):
seeing just four clients a day, let's say that you're
seeing five or six. Add to that the amount of
time that is required by any business to do some
minimal admin. Even if you have a VA, you need
to make time to meet with your VA once or
twice a week to go over you know, details, questions
and results. The time that it takes to do content creation,

(09:37):
the time that it takes for you to do your
own recaps of each session that you have with these
one to one clients. You know, if you do any blogging,
if you do if you have some emails that you
need to respond to. I mean, now we're we're talking
a full eight hour workday. Now, you know, with just
just serving four to five clients. Right now, let's say
that in the time that it takes you to serve

(10:00):
those four clients, you're serving one client let's say from
ten to eleven, one client from eleven to twelve, one
client from twelve to one, and one client from one
to two. What if you could serve ten clients from
ten to eleven, ten clients from eleven to twelve, ten
clients from twelve to one, and ten clients from one

(10:23):
to two. Now you have more than ten next your income,
even if you have to lower the cost of having
these clients involved. So of course your one to one
fees are going to be significantly higher than if you're
doing a group setting. But if you learn how to

(10:43):
deliver quality, strong, powerful programs, I'm not talking about just
random courses where people are just watching curriculum left alone
to their own devices. I'm talking about developing a program
like I teach you to do inside simple business systems,
something that is transformational based on your genius, your values,
your morals, the thing that you absolutely love to teach,
the thing that brings you true and honest joy, to

(11:05):
your soul, right, your proven system that you've already used
with these one to one clients, right, and being able
to create something transformational like that, and that instead of
in the four hours of the day where you're serving
four people in those four hours, perhaps you can serve
forty people. Perhaps you don't even need four hours to

(11:27):
serve forty people. Perhaps you can work two hours and
serve twenty people in each hour and still serve forty people.
So you're increasing your reach, you are increasing your income,
and you are increasing the amount of free time that
you have for whether it's recovery or to learn something

(11:49):
new to put into your business, or to just give
yourself some creative space, or to go hang out with
your kids, your husband, your dog, whoever you like, whatever
it is for you, right. So it's important, iportant to
say that I believe that this is the best system
for service providers, for coaches and consultants like myself and
like ninety something percent of my clients. But it's also

(12:12):
important to say that even that may not be a
success template that you want to implement, because perhaps you
don't yet have a grip on your genius. Perhaps you
just started coaching and you're not quite sure yet. What
is that special sauce that you bring to the table.
What is that special thing that makes you unique and

(12:33):
different in your coaching style and in your coaching approach
and in your coaching methodology and your coaching expertise that
others do not have. Right, when you get into a
coaching certification program like I did at the University of Miami,
they teach you the process of coaching. They teach you
how to coach, and it's in nine times out of ten.
This is like a standard life coaching program. They teach

(12:54):
you how to approach the client and what kind of
different questions to ask, etc. But they don't necessarily teach
you what is your zone of genius. You have to
uncover that on your own. And so, yeah, I can
tell you come into SBS, but if you don't know
what that special sauce is, developing a group program may
not even be the thing for you at this moment.
And so, you know, when we're talking about the myth

(13:16):
of the mold, the myth is that the mold, you know,
molding your business to somebody else's success template is going
to equal success for you. But it's not it's not guaranteed, right,
And even if it, even if you know, fitting your
business squeezing it into somebody else's success template does give
you some success for a year or two, there's going

(13:38):
to come a point when you're going to outgrow that
because you're going to realize now that you have more money,
you're going to be like, yeah, but this doesn't really
align with me. This doesn't really align with the life
that I want to live. Yeah, I'm making money, but
it's not giving me the purpose driven oomph that I
require of entrepreneurship, right, because if we're just following templates,

(14:00):
they might as well distained in corporate right. I mean,
forty two percent of small business owners say that the
top reason why they left their business was to be
their own boss, right, to be able to do things
on their own, and to you know, to to be
there to have that freedom. Again going back to the
point of this episode, but yet over sixty percent of

(14:21):
business owners report that their stress levels are even higher
as entrepreneurs than they were when they were employed by
corporate This is according to zero the State of the
Small Business Report. So when we are thinking of the
way that you've created the business, structure. Have you done

(14:42):
it from a stans of freedom of how do I
need this business to work? How do I need this
business structure to be in order for it to support
my desired lifestyle, my desired income, my desired free time,
and my desired way of delivering my genius to clients.
Does this business reflect the life that I want? Or

(15:04):
is it just mimicking someone else's strategy? Now, as a sidebar,
if somebody else has developed a business structure that fits
exactly with the lifestyle that you want, then sure that
is a success template that you may want to emulate, right,
but just be very careful that you are clear on
all the unseen parts of that success template because you know,

(15:27):
going back to the first example, and I use this
example because it's a very common one that is sold
out there. You know, the people that are telling you
just sell a bunch of low ticket offers or oftentimes
not telling you the thousands and thousands of dollars that
they put behind their products on ad spend in order
to be able to sell the volume that is required

(15:48):
for a low ticket products like a forty or fifty
dollars product to be able to make you ten K
months I mean, do the math yourself. If you want
to have a ten K month and you are selling
let's say a fifty dollars product, you need to sell
two hundred of those, right, Selling two hundred things is work.
And if you've got only a couple followers, even if
you have ten thousand followers, not all ten thousand followers

(16:10):
are going to buy, right. And let's say that you're
selling them this one fifty dollars product today, are they
going to want to buy a similar fifty dollars product
next week or the week after that? Do you have
the creative capacity to consistently create products that are in
the desire zone of you of your followers, right? Because
if not, that's okay. But then that's where the AdSpend

(16:31):
comes in. And that's where a lot of people are
showing you the winning part of their success blueprint, but
they're not telling you the success propeller behind it. And
so it's important that you know that every single success template,
including what I teach a SBS, has the success template. So,
for example, in SBS, it is being able to create

(16:53):
a transformational, phenomenal high ticket product, a high ticket program
that you're going to sell, but the success propeller behind
it is your messaging, which I also teach you inside SBS.
But if you don't have the proper messaging and the
ability to get out there and talk about your product,
then it's not going to work. Right. Shit doesn't sell itself, Okay.

(17:15):
And so just you know, as the very first part
of this episode, you know, talking about the true freedom
of entrepreneurship, I want to just leave you with the
question of does my business reflect the life that I want?
Or am I mimicking somebody else's strategy? You know, are
you creating a business structure that is giving you the
lifestyle that you desire? And it's not going to necessarily

(17:38):
be that way from the beginning, of course, you know,
like we all just want to be able to delegate
all of the work to a team and just go
hang out and drink you know, delicious things with a
little umbrella on them by the water all day long.
It's not going to start that way. But are you
are the steps that you are taking building toward that life?
Are you creating a structure that is sustainably to continue

(18:00):
growing in the direction of what you desire? Right? The
second topic that I want to talk about when it
comes to freedom of entrepreneurship, is redefining the destination. Oh
my goodness, it is. I see this all the time.
I've done this myself, and you know, every time that
I fall into this trap, it sucks, and I hate
to see my clients in it too. And it's just

(18:21):
so important to talk about the value of reframing success
from outcome obsession to identity evolution. Okay, when you hear
the stories and when you read the books the memoirs
of the most successful entrepreneurs, almost all of them will
at some point touch on their identity evolution as the

(18:46):
biggest element to their entrepreneurial growth. Whether for some of
them it was changing the way that they took care
of their health, for others, it is changing the way
that they thought so changing their mind mindsets, working with
a mindset coach, shifting their beliefs, uprooting negative beliefs about life, money,

(19:08):
or business. Whatever it is, right, there has been a reframe,
an identity evolution, a change in who they are that
has led them to their success. And in the beginning
of our entrepreneurial journey, sometimes throughout the entire damn thing,
we are so focused on outcome. Obsessively focused on outcome,

(19:33):
and that is not the true freedom of entrepreneurship. The
true freedom of that entrepreneurship gives us is the ability
to continue evolving as people throughout the journey, regardless of outcomes.
In spite of the outcomes. Yes, of course we're going
to set goals. I'm not saying you're going to be
out here working aimlessly or just like, oh, I don't

(19:55):
care if this launch flops. That's not what I'm saying.
We're going to set our goals, but our reward. Our
focus on the reward should not be just the outcome.
It should be who we are becoming as we pursue
these goals. Because if in your pursuit of goals for

(20:17):
your business, you are not becoming wiser, smarter, more driven, stronger,
more resilient, then it doesn't matter if you're achieving your goals.
At some point, like I said in the beginning, you
are going to cap out your evolution as a person
and that's going to plateau your business. Right. There is

(20:38):
just so much value in the entrepreneurial journey. There's so
much value in honoring your pivots, in honoring your breakdowns,
in honoring your breakthroughs and in really spotlighting your failures
as opportunities what we call failures. You know, you did

(20:59):
a launch and and nobody bought. You know, you did
a launch and only one person or two people bought. Okay,
you were going for ten. I feel you. It feels
like so so much of a failure. But can you
instead of looking at it as a failure, look at
it as where can I grow from this? What part
of my identity and who I am as an entrepreneur

(21:21):
needs to evolve in order for the next one to
go better? Is it the way that you showed up
promoting your launch? Is it the quality of the content
because you're writing sucks are because you're afraid of getting
on camera? How can you evolve a little bit, just
a little bit from that? You know? Where else did

(21:41):
you falter in this launch? And I don't say to
look at it to beat yourself up or anything like that.
That doesn't work either, but rather to look at it
as an opportunity to have an identity evolution. Damn, I
really saw myself burning out in this launch. Great become

(22:02):
the entrepreneur who structures rest and refueling as part of
their launch. Damn, I really saw myself kind of getting
in my own way halfway through. I just stopped showing
up because you know, I didn't get all the sales
right from the start, and I just kind of lost
faith in the launch and I kind of pulled away. Great,

(22:22):
now that you're aware of that, how can you have
an identity evolution as the leader of that business, as
the entrepreneur, as the business owner. That'll teach you that
it's quite possible you didn't get all the sales you
wanted because you pulled away right in the middle, right,
How can you become how can you evolve into the

(22:43):
identity of the business owner who sees the goals that
they set all the way through to the end. I
see things all the way through to the end. I
stick to the plan so that if any part of
it doesn't work, I can really truly spotlight why. I
can I can pinpoint why, because if you see it
all the way through, you'll know at the end, well,

(23:03):
it didn't work because this part faltered. Not well, I'm
not really sure because I stopped halfway through, right. So
it's important that we redefine what the true destination of
entrepreneurship is, and really choose to focus on reframing success

(23:25):
from being that outcome obsession to identity evolution, because that's
also going to help us to recover from the quote
unquote failures a little better when we approach them head
on as great, this didn't work out the way I wanted.
Let me see what can I reap from here? What
can I gather from this? What can make me better

(23:48):
from this? Right? And so if you want to reflect
a little bit on this, how have you changed since
you began your business journey? And celebrate that? And then
the second reflection is what would shift if you began
to look at entrepreneurship as a path of becoming instead

(24:08):
of just a path to profit. I promise you that
when you shift your focus of what entrepreneurship is from
profit to becoming, the profits exponentially increase, because when you
increase who you become. When you expand who you become,

(24:29):
your creative expands with you. Your ability to receive expands
with you, Your understanding of money expands with you, your
understanding of sales expands with you, and thus with all
of those things. When you are becoming a better version
of you, inevitably the profit has to increase because you're

(24:50):
expanding as a person and that is going to lead
to business expansion as well. Your business is a reflection
of you, and so I leave you with those two
points reflection before getting into the next topic, which is
that shift from pressure to possibility. Right. The lie that

(25:10):
we are told is if it doesn't work on perfectly,
I failed. The truth is that curiosity creates space and
perfectionism creates pressure. When you can find a way to
shift from that anxiety driven entrepreneurship of it must be perfect,

(25:31):
that have to do it now, It has to be
done in ten days, It has to be done immediately,
to curiosity meaning I wonder how quickly I can do this? Well,
instead of I must get it done in ten days
because I don't know some self imposed deadline, right, or
some absorbed deadline because somebody else did it in ten days.

(25:51):
Will it feel good for you to do it in
ten days? Maybe approach with that curiosity. How would it
feel for me to do this quickly? How would it
feel for for me to do this leisurely? Right? There
are a ton of studies that show entrepreneurs with a
growth mindset, meaning you approach things with that element of

(26:15):
curiosity are thirty four percent more resilient when they're facing
business failures or unexpected outcomes than the rest. Thirty four
percent is a huge percentage when it comes to resilience
when shit goes wrong, when it comes to your ability
to stay standing when the business wants to knock you down. Okay,

(26:35):
this is according to the Journal of Business Venturing. And
so I just feel like if we can remove that
self imposed pressure because most of the mean think about it,
most of the time, this pressure is a pressure we
put on ourselves. This is a pressure that is self
imposed because if you don't have a boss, then who

(26:57):
the fuck is asking you for perfection? You you're the
only one that things that you need to be perfect.
And the truth is, and come on, I mean, you
already know perfection doesn't exist. I don't have to tell
you that, right, Even if you suffer from perfectionism, you
already know it doesn't exist. All it does is create pressure.
And so when you can create that shift from pressure
to possibility, approach with curiosity, approach with I wonder how

(27:22):
it would feel to do this. I wonder what it
would take for me as a person to outreach to
ten different people today. I wonder, how would it turn
out if I did X, Y, and Z right. That
shift from pressure to curiosity will completely dismantle the anxiety

(27:45):
driven approach to entrepreneurship that oftentimes oftentimes leads us to burnout,
to self doubt, and to a shutting down of our
own creativity. Because creativity cannot flourish in an anxious space.

(28:06):
And so I want to close off with permission, permission,
giving yourself permission to embrace the true freedom of entrepreneurship,
Give yourself loving permission to do business differently, to do

(28:27):
it in the way that fuels your soul, to do
it in the way that feels aligned. Permission to not rush,
Permission to feel the joy now because you get too.
You get to create content for your business. You get
to jump on a sales call with somebody who's interested
in your service. You get to go to networking events

(28:50):
and talk to new people who might fall in love
with you and how you do the thing that you
do and your value is aligned and they will go
be ambassadors for your brand. And you get to have
the freedom to do all those little menial tasks that
sometimes get on your damn nerves, but you get to
do it for yourself, for your vision, your passion, and

(29:10):
your goal. And this is why this permission slip is
so important, because you get to do these things for
your business that hopefully you are building from a space
of freedom and from a space of how do I
want this to feel for me in my life? Permission
to rest without guilt, Permission to be both ambitious and

(29:33):
intuitive in the way that you approach your ambition, in
the way that you pave the road to your goals,
and in the way that you pause when you walk
down that road to enjoy the scenery, to find the
opportunity on both sides of that road. I absolutely love

(29:55):
chatting with you about these things, and I can't wait
to jump into the chats with gig Instagram and hear
what you have to say about this episode and how
it landed for you. And I'll leave you with just
