(00:00):
Welcome to Check what Chip, broughtto you by retire Smart. I'm Chip
Maxwell. I'm going to take thewhy Trump theme of the previous podcast and
run with it. Consider this thefirst in a series of podcasts answering the
question Why Trump. It's an excerptfrom my book Fix It Now, Rediscover
(00:21):
the Constitution and get America out ofits fiscal death spiral. Ready, here
we go. I voted for DonaldTrump in twenty sixteen and twenty twenty,
and will vote for him again ifhe runs in twenty twenty four. That
was written before he actually entered therace. In some circles, that makes
(00:43):
me the equivalent of a Christian inNero's Rome, some one to be loathed,
persecuted, and canceled. I don'tcare. As a conservative, I
hit the jackpot with Trump, mostpro life president ever. Supreme Court justices
who respect the Constitution, tax cutsbenefiting working class and middle class Americans as
(01:07):
well as the wealthy, deregulation benefitingsmall business, best job and economic numbers
in fifty years, Dow Jones industrialaverage hitting thirty thousand in a pandemic year.
Improved border security, utilizing domestic resourcesto achieve energy independence. Progress in
(01:27):
foreign policy areas stagnant for decades, with foreign leaders nominating President Trump for the
Nobel Peace Prize, breakthrough foreign tradedeals, cessation of the IRS's harassment of
conservative people and organizations, warp speedproduction of COVID vaccines, invoking the anti
(01:49):
science delusion of transgenderism. Males bargeinto female bathrooms and sports, threatening personal
dignity and safety in the former, and destroying competitive balance in the latter.
The Trump administration pushed back against theseassaults on decency and fair play. Most
twenty twenty exit polls showed that Trumpwon a record chair of the minority vote
(02:14):
for a Republican Why because he didmore for minorities than any president in the
last fifty years. The number offood stamp recipients surged to a record forty
eight million during the Obama administration. The Trump economy drove that number down to
thirty six million. People of allraces received food stamps, But the remarkable
(02:38):
reduction and poverty reflected in the foodstamp numbers is in large part a result
of minorities experiencing record low unemployment ratesand record high job numbers despite so much
winning one of our US Senators fromNebraska. Republican Ben SaaS is not pleased.
(02:59):
This was while Sas was still aUS Senator from Nebraska. Sas despises
what he calls the weird worship ofTrump. The Trump phenomenon is weird to
Sas because he is a classic Washingtonpolitician. He left his home state to
make connections with and learn the waysof the political ruling class in DC.
(03:23):
He returned home and with the helpof those DC political and financial connections,
won a seat in Congress to securea prime position in that ruling class.
Sas plays the game well. What'sweird is that he ran as a hardcore
Tea Party candidate in his first Senaterace in twenty fourteen. Then he rejected
(03:46):
Trump, the embodiment of the TeaParty, and became a DC darling.
With President Trump leading the way,Republicans began making America great again. In
all the ways listed on the previouspage, Sas voted for most of it.
He brags about his conservative voting record. Yet in September twenty eighteen,
(04:08):
the angst ridden Hamlet of the Plains, to be a Republican or not to
be that is the question, said, he woke up every morning wondering if
he should leave the Republican Party becauseit had become too trumpish. Sas went
noticeably silent on Trump in twenty nineteen. As his twenty twenty Senate primary approached.
(04:31):
The only noise he made about Trumpwas to make sure Nebraska voters knew
that he and the President spoke regularlyand got along fine. Trump rose above
Sass's prior carping and endorsed him.Sas thanked Trump by snubbing him. After
getting the Trump Seal of Approval vitalfor a Nebraska Republican, Sas made it
(04:56):
clear that he did not ask forit, thus preserving his purity. I
told you he plays this game well. Sass's general election Democratic opponent offered no
serious competition, so once the primarywas safely behind him, Sas resumed unloading
on Trump. He would go onto vote for conviction of Trump on the
(05:17):
impeachment charge of inciting insurrection. Andnow we weird worshippers of Trump have been
scolded by a disapproving senator Sass.I am grieved. God is the only
being I worship, but I dosupport Trump. How can you support someone
(05:39):
impeached for inciting a deadly insurrection atthe Capitol. Trump did not incite an
insurrection for two months. Following thetwenty twenty election, Trump expressed the frustration
many of us shared over the resultat a January sixth White House rally.
He told the crowd to go tothe Capitol and peacefully urged Congress to challenge
(06:02):
the result. The White House rallywas wrapping up when the protest began at
the Capitol. The rally was oneand a half miles from the Capitol,
a half hour walk for a largecrowd. By the time the rallygh crowd
arrived at Capitol Hill, that capitolwas under siege. The rally and Trump
(06:25):
speech were irrelevant to those who occupiedthe Capitol. They were going to act
regardless of the Trump event. I'llcall it a riot, but not an
insurrection. Some showed up with toolsand weapons, ready to rumble, but
the event was a protest to influencecongressional action, not a storming of the
(06:48):
Capitol by revolutionaries trying to kill peopleand take over the government. Some caught
on videos, such as John EarlSullivan, were from the political left.
The left means democrats, liberals, progressives, socialists, communists, those on
the left side of the political spectrum, including most of the medium. For
(07:11):
the left, the riot was atwofer. It was a chance to bury
the investigation of election fraud by declaringit a dangerous lie that got people killed,
referring to a protester fatally shot byCapitol police and a false report of
an officer killed by rioters. Italso presented a chance to bury Trump with
(07:34):
a second impeachment. Removal by impeachmentis a two step process. If the
House votes to impeach charge with acrime, then the Senate holds a trial
and votes on whether to convict onthe impeachment charge and remove a president from
office. The House impeached Trump basedon the Capitol riot. A week later,
(07:58):
Trump's term as president ended and heleft office, Yet the Senate continued
the impeachment process by holding the trialafter Trump was out of office. It
was bizarre. The reason for impeachmentno longer existed. Impeachment is for removal
from office a prosecution of a privatecitizen. Aside from that as a practical
(08:24):
matter, why did Democrats and antiTrump Republicans never trumpers, go after a
president about to leave office and keepgoing after him when he was gone.
Because of twenty twenty four, Democratsfear losing to Trump in a non fraudulent
election. Never trumpers also want Trumpout of the way, especially the presidential
(08:48):
wannabees. Conviction on an impeachment chargedisqualifies a president from running for the office
again. Trump paters said they tryingto convict Trump even though he was out
of office, to protect America bysealing him off from the presidency like toxic
waste. They failed to convict, but they knew a conviction was unlikely.
(09:11):
They hoped a second impeachment by itselfwould be enough to place Trump in permanent
political quarantine. The continuing fuss aboutthe riot is about canceling other prominent Republicans
along with Trump, especially twenty twentyfour presidential contenders. The left says those
(09:31):
who challenge the twenty twenty election resulthave blood on their hands. Leftists want
all of us on the right tobe paralyzed with shame and fear afraid to
speak or act because of the riot. Ignore them. Those trying to use
the capital riot to bury all formsof opposition are the same people who ignored
(09:54):
or described as mostly peaceful, thebloodshed, burn looting and death produced in
recent years by anti Trump, antirepublic, and anti conservative mobs. The
left's newfound shock and horror at politicalviolence is cynical and deceitful. Do not
(10:16):
be fooled or intimidated by it.We on the right are not canceled because
a group from our side went berserkon one occasion. If that were true,
Democrats would have to remain silent allthe time in the public arena,
given the repeated mayhem caused by theirpolitical allies. If we on the right
make a habit of getting violent,if we start acting like the left,
(10:39):
then we will lose the moral highground and have a problem. There is
your first installment of Why Trump podcasts. It's an excerpt from my book Fix
It Now, Rediscover the Constitution andGet America out of its fiscal death Spiral.
