(00:00):
Welcome to Check with Chip, broughtto you by retire Smart. I'm Chip
Maxwell. This is the third ina series of podcasts answering the question Why
Trump. It includes an excerpt frommy book Fix It Now, Rediscover the
Constitution and get America out of itsfiscal death spiral. Ready, here we
(00:20):
go. How can you support adivisive, hateful, egomaniac. Trump is
no more divisive or hateful than therest of us. The second impeachment trial
provided examples of leftists calling for politicalviolence in language much more direct and incendiary
(00:42):
than anything Trump has said. Indeed, the left is the main generator of
divisive hatred in America. Leftists produceoverwrought narratives about the violent right. Occasionally,
a rightist militia group does something unhinged, like the one in Michigan that
wanted to kidnap the governor and calledPresident Trump a tyrant and an enemy.
(01:07):
Normally, though, right wing extremistskeep to themselves and want to be left
alone. They're not the ones occupyingand terrorizing American cities. I had never
heard of the Proud Boys until theleft began portraying the group as Trump's personal
storm troopers. Critics say the groupis racist, but there are people of
(01:30):
color in leadership positions. Some ProudBoys are charged with storming the capital to
support Trump, while others are harshlycritical of Trump, calling him a failure.
The group became known because members showedup to counter the violent left at
public events. They were unofficial securityfor conservative persons or groups. They fought
(01:53):
back when leftist thugs showed up andattacked. I bring it up because the
left acts as if the existence ofthe Proud Boys balances or justifies violence by
the left. The Proud Boys andrightist malicious will have to get awfully busy
to match the domestic terrorism of theangry left. The angry left specializes in
(02:19):
division and hatred. Leftists crashed twentysixteen Trump campaign events, provoking fights and
heckling Trump until they were removed.MoveOn dot org bragged about getting a twenty
sixteen Trump event canceled in Chicago becauseof its menacing protesters. After Trump won,
leftist belligerents in helmets and body armor, brandishing weapons and waving Soviet communist
(02:46):
hammer and sickle flags attack peaceful eventsall over America. Leftist militants converged on
Charlottesville to tangle with tiki torch marchers, riot loving poll lease hating Black Lives
Matter zealots rampaged all over the country. The left generated and exploited the divisive
(03:08):
hatred that plagued the nation during theTrump presidency, and then had the nerve
to declare that's Donald Trump's America.Sometimes the smear campaign was more subtle.
A video went viral from the daythe Obamas and Trumps went to lunch before
(03:28):
the change in presidential administrations. Ineclip just a few seconds long, Trump
moved ahead of the others toward thedoor of the restaurant. As he grabbed
the handle and opened the door, the video stopped. Look at that boorish
jackass, critics thundered, pushing aheadof his wife and the President and first
(03:50):
Lady to go in first. Therest of the video, the part the
critics deleted, showed that Trump hadmoved first to open the door and hold
it open for the rest of theparty to enter ahead of him. No
correction or apology by leftist liars. That cheap shot with small potatoes compared to
(04:15):
major hit jobs like Charlottesville, Russia, and Ukraine. But it was part
of the left's non stop siege ofdefamation to make Trump look like a monster.
Any Republican president gets the same treatment. They don't come much nicer than
Ronald Reagan and the father and sonGeorge Bushes. But the left made monsters
(04:38):
of them too. It's a differentstory for Democrats. Eventually, the left
will declare that America is more serenebecause Biden is a uniter, not a
divider like Trump. That's not thereason the divisive barking stops, because leftist
attack dogs become fawning lapdogs when aDemocrat becomes president. When US COVID deaths
(05:04):
exceeded fifty thousand in the spring oftwenty twenty, a reporter asked President Trump
how he could run for reelection witha COVID death toll higher than the US
death toll in the Vietnam War.It was nonsensical garbage, meant to reinforce
the narrative that COVID deaths were thepresident's fault. If a resurgent COVID or
(05:30):
some new virus reek's havoc will thatreporter ask Biden how he can show his
face given whatever number of deaths occuron his presidential watch. Of course not.
Biden won't be blamed. He shouldn'tbe, but neither should Trump.
Trump has a healthy ego. Showme a politician who doesn't. He boasted
(05:55):
about successes and sometimes swung wildly atcritics. He was combative, but I
cut him some slack because he wasunder siege all the time. In the
public arena, Trump was gouged inthe eyes, elbowed in the teeth,
knead in the gut, kicked inthe groin, and sucker punched from behind
(06:15):
by waves of assailants. Then criticswere horrified when Trump did not follow Marcus
of Queensberry rules in defending himself. It reminds me of professional wrestling. Part
of the fun is selective refereeing. The referee enforces the rules on the good
guy, but somehow does not seethe bad guy grab a chair from ringside
(06:42):
and bash the good guy over thehead with it. If the good guy
tries to respond in kind, suddenlythe referee rediscovers his righteousness. Hey,
put down that chair. That's againstthe rules. In a rastling spectacle,
the outrageous double standard ads to therollicking good time. In politics, it's
(07:04):
a vile betrayal of the public trust. I'm not in the mood for self
righteous lectures from the left about thealleged excesses of Trump or the right.
The left needs to clean up itsown act. In twenty seventeen, a
nationally known comedian posted pictures of herselfholding a fake but gory, severed Trump
(07:30):
head. Later she apologized, thenshe put the image back on social media
after the twenty twenty election. I'mnot sure what's more disturbing, the severed
head or the sixty thousand likes itgot. Imagine the reaction from the left
and the right if someone had walkedaround with a severed Obama head, the
(07:53):
outrage and denunciation would have been universal. The left raged when a rodeo clos
did a routine wearing an Obama mask. It was the same type of mask
wearing skit he had done for twodecades, poking fun at every president.
But he was vilified and fired forlampooning Obama. Severed trumphead no problem.
(08:18):
The mock beheading was an example ofa political condition called Trump derangement syndrome.
A lefty commentator on a comedy channelis a poster boy for Trump derangement syndrome.
In cruder language than I will use. He said President Trump's mouth was
a receptacle for Russian President Vladimir Putin'sprivate part. He would have been canceled
(08:46):
for saying something like that about PresidentObama. He was celebrated by the left
as a hero for saying it aboutTrump. There was much heartburn about Trump's
use of Twitter. As a morningdrive talk radio host, I spent two
years going through Trump tweets every weekday. I challenge you to examine a section
(09:09):
of one hundred consecutive tweets in theTrump Twitter feed from any time during his
presidency. In any segment of Trumptweets, a few might be cringeworthy.
Most will be vigorous and cogent correctionsof fake news, often directing entertaining zingers
at deserving targets. Twitter was theequalizer, allowing Trump to counteract the barrage
(09:35):
of fake news crashing down on him. Twenty four seven, the media described
Trump rallies as hate fests. Theywere not. I went to a couple
and watched several more. The moodwas buoyant. There was heckling of media
figures and booing and chanting at themention of certain people and policies. But
(09:58):
it was boisterous political theater, notvicious and dangerous like the leftist street mob
that attacked people leaving the White Houseafter the President's speech concluding the twenty twenty
Republican National Convention. The Capital riotwas not rambunctious fun. I condemn it,
as did Trump and every legitimate voiceon the right. However, I
(10:22):
do understand how people who feel pushedbeyond the point of tolerance might snap.
In November twenty twenty, I almosttook a swing at a guy while speaking
at a local stopped the Steel rallyorganized by Moms for America. He was
not social distancing. He was rightnext to me, jumping up and down
(10:46):
while screaming and ringing a cowbell. The nut job crowding me was one of
a couple dozen leftists roaming amid ourgathering of about a hundred people. They
harassed with obscene words and gestures, trying unsuccessfully to break up the event.
One guy shouted into a microphone attachedto a large speaker that he pulled around
(11:11):
in a wagon. He later madenews leading a protest featuring severed pigheads at
the local police union hall and forhis arrest in New York for slamming a
woman's face into a wall with concussiveforce, choking her into unconsciousness, and
stealing her car. It was aslice of hell on earth, crazed,
(11:35):
howling demons spewing bile. The Bombsfor America leader politely asked the protesters to
tone it down as there were childrenpresent with their mothers. The protesters got
louder and more abusive. Police werethere. I called nine to one when
protesters used large barricades and their ownbodies to try to block my car and
(11:58):
others from entering the park where therally was held. During the event,
I asked a cop why the protesterswere allowed to plow right into our midst
and raise a ruckus. He said, as long as they didn't get physical,
they could be as obnoxious as theywanted. I disagree, but I
(12:18):
suppose the cops had been told toavoid the kind of confrontations craved by protesters
and media eager to portray police negatively. I nonetheless reject the idea that any
degree of verbal harassment is okay. That violates my First Amendment right to free
speech and peaceful assembly. If peoplecan invade my speaking space and make it
(12:43):
nearly impossible for others to hear meamplifying their noise mechanically and electronically, then
I have no meaningful right to speechand assembly. Generating a racket of speech
blocking noise may be standard operating procedurefor the left, but it should not
be legal in a public park whenorganizers have gone through proper procedures to secure
(13:09):
that venue. That's an excerpt frommy book fix It Now, Rediscover the
Constitution and get America out of itsFiscal Death Spiral. If you like what
you heard and want to read thewhole chapter on the Trump phenomenon, go
