Speaker 1 (00:00):
Comply. It's that simple. Comply with the officers commands. What
am I talking about. I'm talking about this video out
of Jacksonville, Florida that's been I just saw it for
the first time, Yesterdavid. Apparently this has already been, you know,
something they've been dealing with and has been out there
for a while now. Because the state's attorney general says

(00:22):
that they have found the officers in question, the deputies
in question did not violate any criminal laws. There's now
an ongoing investigation within the Sheriff's department to see if
they have any conduct issues as far as department policies go.
Have you seen Zach Furs. Have you seen this video?

Speaker 2 (00:38):
I think I know which one you're talking about, the
guy with the long.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Hair, like braided hair, blackmail red hoodie hip sitting in
his car. Okay, so did he take a butt whip?
And yes he did, Yes he did. But but here
let me tell you something. Comply with the officers commands.
I'm saying this to you. You listening right now, Your kids,
if they are in the car, comply. If you feel

(01:02):
like the law enforcement people are out of line, violating
your civil rights, do it. Whatever file the complaint later,
file the case later, take it to court later. But
in that moment in time, when you have been pulled over,
comply with the officer's commands, get your ticket and drive

(01:24):
away safely. I'm sorry? Is that all that hard to comprehend?
Am I not making? Is my point not being understood?
Should I do it in Mandarin? What do I need
to do to make clear? All you need to do
is comply with the officers commands? But no, see, too

(01:47):
many people these days want to turn on their cell
phone cameras or dash cams or whatever and get on YouTube.
That's what it's about. Doesn't matter if it makes sense
or not. They're trying to get their fifteen minutes of
Internet fame, so they turn on them and then they
want to argue with the officer. I need to see
your supervisor. No, you don't comply with the officer's commands.

(02:13):
Get it over with, leave safely, and file your complaint later.
It's twenty twenty five. Do you not think, young black man,
if you filed a complaint saying that you were inappropriately
harassed by the officers pulled over for no reason, blah
blah blah blah, blah that some lawyer is not going
to take your case just to get on the six

(02:33):
o'clock news. Of course they will in the meantime turn
off the camera and comply, or maybe that's just me
A two one nine eight six A two one WTV.
And if you saw that video and your initial response
was the officers shut back, I'd love to talk to you.

(02:54):
If your initial response was well, you're an idiot, I'd
love to talk to you too, because I'm hoping that
there will be more of you who see this young
man as the idiot than are already ready to hang
the officers out because you know, there were charges he
was driving under a suspended license, driving without a seat belt,

(03:15):
did not have his lights on, as is required by
law in the state of Florida. He said, well, it's
not raining, so I don't need them on, and other
cars don't have other cars don't have their lights. But
you're the one that got pulled over. Comply and file
your complaint later. Whether you're in Jacksonville, Florida, or Columbus, Ohio,

(03:38):
or drive it through the village of Brice, Comply and
file your complaint later. Now I'm not saying that the
officers' motivations were all pure. I don't know, but you
file the complaint later, take it to court, find out
I have seen I in fact, I have been part

(04:00):
of situations like that in the past. Once. I actually
sat in the Franklin County Joint down there on Jackson
Pike overnight because of some ridiculous over zealous deputy. I'm
not saying you're wrong. What I'm saying is comply don't

(04:21):
be an idiot. In this case, the kid was you know,
beaten up, took some good punches, and that officer punching
through the window and punching him in the jaw. He
was being mouthy, he was being uncooperative. I think that
particular deputy will finally or eventually face some repercussions for

(04:43):
breaking out the window and punching through the window, punching
this guy in the jaw. It's not like he's gonna,
you know, go to prison for life or anything, but
I think he'll probably get a department sanction of some
sort because there was no there was no physical altercation
in progress, and you know, to to send the right
fist to the jaw that way, that's that kind of

(05:06):
thing is probably best reserved for when there is a
physical situation. But I I don't I don't grasp the want,
the need, the desire of people today to turn on
the camera and put everything on on YouTube or Facebook
or Instagram or whatever instead of just making sense. Could

(05:33):
you call your supervisor? I want to speak to a supervisor,
comply and file the complaint later A two one nine
eight six A two one WTV And what was your
first reaction Zach and honest opinion? When you first saw
the video? What was your first reaction?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I wasn't sure because the first I saw that I
had no subtitles, was like, I just saw cop hit
a window and then punch the guy and and they
were like, show me your hands. I could hear that.
And then he went like this and then put them
back down and I was like ugh, and they pulled him
out and punched them. But then I saw the whole
thing and I was like, eh, should have just maybe

(06:12):
just got out of the car.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
The problem with these videos is they're you know, they're edited,
so you only see where they want you to see it.
You don't see the full exchange. The Sheriff's Department in
Jacksonville did release the full body cam footage on Monday,
the show beginning to end what exactly had happened, And yes,

(06:34):
it was a bit extreme breaking out the window, But
again from the other side of that fence. Would police
deal with these days to some degree, I understand a
bit of zealousness in their efforts to do their job.
They never know what they're dealing with. And again, this

(06:55):
guy was driving on a suspended license, no seat belt,
headlights weren't on. Oh, in marijuana possession. He had marijuana possession.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
I didn't know he's driving on a suspended license. You're
going to jail anyway if you do that.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I don't know what this is we legal in Florida.
I'm not sure if it is down there. Spended license
thing is not. Yeah, well that's not gonna work anything. Yeah,
with all the older folks in Florida, though, I didn't know,
perhaps uh legal marijuana was a recreation or inducal or
whatever was was allowed in Florida or not. I'm not sure.

(07:29):
But they cited that possession of marijuana as being one
of the charges against him, So I have to assume
it is not legal, at least on a recreational level
down there. It is not.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Recreational use of marijuana is not legal in Florida. I
think that you can have medical marijuana. That's it so.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Well with the older population that doesn't surprise me.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
And they're the ones who need to be smoking.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
A lot of glaucoma going on down right. So the
the idea that this this guy is and unfortunately, you know,
the media is going to get a hold of this
and they're gonna hammer you with it for the next
four or five days. I mean you'll get through the week.
Every day you will see this story and probably see
the video, and there will be a slant to the
way the story is told to to make the officers

(08:13):
look as bad as possible. I'm not excusing them. I'm
not saying that they did not do some things inappropriately
or over zealously or whatever. What I'm saying is the
slant that will be put on it will be far
more extreme. It's gonna it's gonna it will be made
to appear like something it is not in order to

(08:37):
get people outraged. Comply and file the complaint later. That
simple Franklin Township, good luck to you. Apparently, according to
the wsy accept six website, the township's going to uh,
they're gonna go after another Levey voter support to get

(08:59):
the ninety three reopen the fire station over there on
Frank Road. I hope they do get this passed and
get that fire stad. It's always busy. I mean every
time I go down Harrisburg Pike, it seems like that
fire department is rolling on something. And it's not that

(09:20):
one ninety two over on Sullivan Avenue isn't also busy.
But you know, this is the primary building. The township
trustees also also meet there. The police department is there.
I believe all the administrative stuff goes on there. To
not have that fire station operating out of there just
doesn't make sense. And in that area of the township

(09:44):
you have, you know, homes that are on large lots
and in some larger homes as a matter of fact,
older homes, lots of wood in the structures. You've got
a I would say a significant not a majority, but

(10:04):
a significant population of older folks over there. They are
constantly on a run. And it made me very sad
when I saw them shut it down last week. It's
been ten days ago now, but they laid off the
firefighters that were there, which were five fire fires and
shut it down. And I'm hoping, I'm hoping that the

(10:31):
levee is something that the people of the township can
manage and they get that place over again. Trustee Blevins said.
The other trustee decided to place a levy on the
ballot for November. It's going to be five point nine
eight mills, which is an increase of one mill for
five years, costing the owner of one hundred thousand dollars
home thirty five dollars per year, raising a little more

(10:52):
than four million dollars annually. And see, they always say
that inappropriately it is one hundred one thousand dollars of
taxable value. Okay, so if you've got the the owner
occupant credit, you've got maybe homestead credit or whatever whatever's
left after all of those credits, as the taxable value

(11:16):
on the home, if that is one hundred thousand dollars,
it'll cost you thirty five bucks a year. They never
really say that as plainly as I think it needs
to be said. But frankly, I mean for the security
of having that station open and manned, I'm thirty five

(11:36):
bucks a year seems well worth it to me, and
I know things are tight. Things are tight for all
of us. I just got my water bill again today.
Things are tight for all of us. But thirty five
dollars a year for one hundred thousand dollars in value,
so two hundred thousand dollars house, which is going to
be fairly common about seventy less than a hundred bucks

(12:00):
year basically within the township. And that's a lot of
peace of mind for one hundred dollars. Or maybe that's
just me.
