Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am Chuck Douglas. You are you, and that's the
way nature intended. This is the power hour on six
ten double UTV in my number eight two one nine
eight eighty six A two one WTVN. I get full
border calls, but if a line comes available, feel free
to grab it as long as you get on before
we get done. I will do everything I can do
to get you on. I just wanted to share something

(00:20):
sad with you that I saw today, and I don't
want to bring you down, but it's just it's one
of those realities of life. And I don't know who
this person was, but I had to take a moment
to feel bad for them. As I was driving around.
I was on six seventy passing the Leonard Avenue exit,
headed up toward Jehanna this morning in the rain, and

(00:42):
a car with one of the purple funeral flags is
getting on there at Leonard Avenue. And that car was
followed by a hearse, which was followed by a little
gray Toyota and that was it. That was it. That
was the extent of the funeral procession. And I found
myself feeling really bad for for whoever that was. From

(01:08):
the moment you enter earth, even as a baby, you
hope to inspire people to uh, to be a part
of your life, to think about you, to to wish
well to you. And and I don't know who that was,
but man, three cars just just I really felt sad
for them. So if if you happen to be one

(01:28):
of those three cars or you know who, that was
a few kind thoughts for them tonight. I hope, seriously
when I when I kick off, assuming I've lost enough
weight that we can finally get pulled theirs, I'm hoping
that my procession will like tie up traffic for months.

(01:49):
I just want to be as annoying as possible one
last time. You think so, yeah, I hope so. But
three cars, it just wow, what a sad thing. Also,
yesterday I was talked about all the strange ways people
were dying, several men who had been killed by falling trees.
Then last night I'm texting exactly like, man, did you
hear this? Another guy, seventy four year old man here

(02:11):
in central Ohio was cutting a tree. I guess he
was killed. And then in Allison's news this afternoon, another
guy killed by a falling tree branch in the Hocking
Hills today. Really a strange set of coincidences. It really is.
It's not something we hear about all the time. What
we also don't hear about is the governor vetoing things
that just, I'm sorry, just don't make sense to me,

(02:33):
which he has done. Sixty billion is the state budget
for two years, and the things that were red lined
out in the cases I've read so far just are
not making sense to me. I'd love to get your thoughts.
A two U UTV and is the number Todd's been
on hold the longest, so Todd you are on six
to ten double UTVN.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah, that's one of a quick comment on something you
mentioned the last half hour about new taxes and everything
going up and AP raising their rates. All these solar farms,
all these wind farms, all theficient electronic electronics and appliances
in my house, every light bulb's in replaced. Why is
my electric bill keep going up?

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Good question? Good question had at the same time, why
are they coming to you and saying your electric bills
going up while still encouraging all of these data processing
things from Google and Intel and Microsoft and Amazon and
all this those are going to suck down all kinds
of power. Maybe it would make sense, Todd, if we
started coming up with new ways to generate power, or

(03:37):
going back to some of the old ways, like the
nuclear power plants we've been terrified of for the past
forty years.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Oh yeah, yeah, it was a lot more. Do you
say what you want? A lot of people can say
what they want, But I think it's more efficient, more
environmentally friendly. But I just might I just want to
throw that out there because my wife brought it up.
Wife's electric bill keep going up with all these solar
farms and wind farms we drive through when we travel,
and I'm like, yeah, good question.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
I appreciate you and your wife. Todd, thanks very much.
And speaking of wind and the electric bill, here's something else.
You remember the wind goes through, the ratio comes through.
A few years ago, and all the power lines knocked down,
polls came down, and what did they do? We need
to raise your rates to pay for the infrastruction. No, no, no,
You are in the business of providing electricity. One of

(04:24):
the essential elements is lines to provide that electricity. This
is a risk of your line of work, just because
you were not prepared doesn't mean I should have to
foot the bill. I got to carry insurance on my
car before I go out on the road because I

(04:45):
choose to drive. Why should you not carry insurance on
your power line? So if a the ratio comes through,
you've got acclaim to your insurance instead of coming to
me and going, hey, by the way, I need you
to pay for this, No you don't. If you do,
I don't want to pay for it, get out of
the business. I pay you for the goods and services

(05:07):
you provide, and I pay you exorbitantly in some cases.
Why should I also have to pay you for the
tools that you were using to provide your goods and services.
You chose that line of work, that is one of
the risks that comes with it. Or again, maybe that's
just me. A TWOWTVN and Jerry are on the Legacy

(05:28):
Retirement Group dot com phone lines.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, we were talking about the unclaimed funds. You know,
let them get a hold of that money. Remember back
a few decades ago, social Security was not allowed to
be touched by no government people. I mean, it was
just the people to pay it in, got it out,
and then they start dipping in a little bit, dipping

(05:52):
in a little bit. Now every foreigner that shows up,
every kid, every mother with six kids, every you name it,
they get so Security yep, and we're always out of money.
Can't well, we can't give you this because we owe
this to the We got to take care of this.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
We got to take care of that.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
And it'll be the exact same thing next thing. No,
that fund will be gone. It's always you let them
get a little dip in and then that's it's gone.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Well, social Security is not what it was supposed to be,
which was supposed to be a supplement for in year
old age, but you're paying money into that. And then
Social Security became Social Security Disability. Okay, so now the
people who didn't work at all didn't now we're writing
checks today. Then it became a DC aid for dependent children.

(06:40):
So somebody dies, and I know this from firsthand experience.
Somebody dies. They got a one year old child. They
might have worked for three years before passing away, had
a car accident or whatever. That one year old child
is now going to get a Social Security check every
month until their eighteenth birthday from from proceeds that were
never paid into the system by the parent. Because the

(07:02):
parent died early. We have bastardized what it was supposed
to be to the point where it's, yeah, it's it's
way too much.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
Why wouldn't they create a new fund? Only don't call
it social Security because that was already a separate organization.
Start a new fund if you want to call it,
whatever you want to call it, but have a separate fund.
It is not just the people to pay it in
out of their income, you know.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
But you know as well as I do, Jerry, you
could you could not trust any government entity or politician
to keep that fund. Even social Security is not a fund.
The money just goes into the general fund. It only
exists on paper.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
All right, Well, here you go.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
The fallibility of human beings. Buddy, thanks very much for
the call. I appreciate you A two one WTVN and
Rochelle you're on six to ten DOULEUTVN.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Chuck once again, great show, great topics, and I'm pretty
impressed because you have the kahuna.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
To go after do wine.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
That takes a lot so and you're not you know
what after at my last job when I abruptly resigned,
that was that was what everybody thought, did Amy acting
and Mike Dwine have him fired, And I actually had
to do a video on Facebook. My own my boss
called me and said, can you please put something on
Facebook because people are outraged and they're protesting and coming

(08:24):
to the station, and so I had to go clarify
to people. Look, I got ticked off and quit. Mike
DeWine and Amy Acting did not have me fired for
goodness sake.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Well, thank goodness then, but let's just hope you don't
get in trouble for this. But either way, I'm gonna
try to be crack. Okay, So I have two quick questions.
Do we allow kids under seventeen go to rate at
our movie?

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Nope?

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Nope? And do we let little boys and girls and
teenagers go to the others like men's strip clubs or
strip clubs on Bethel Road?

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Do you know that?

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Nope?

Speaker 3 (08:58):
So why a name?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Why would the petite governor d whine? I think it's
okay to override what the other legislators put in place.
They worked hard to get that in place. Well, I
don't care what his excuse is.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
I don't get it crazy.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
It doesn't cost any money to move that material to
a different.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Place, and we're not saying it's banned. We're not saying
it's banned. We're not saying you can't have. We're just
asking please show us. We're supposed to show you that
it's okay to be you and live as you want
and so forth, that's okay. Show us that same respect
by keeping it away from our kids. If we don't
want our kids, what the hell is the big deal there?
It's mutual respect between two opposing points of view. Why

(09:39):
is that a problem exactly?

Speaker 4 (09:41):
If some liberal parent wants who or her child to
see that stuff, that liberal parent can go talk to
the librarian and find out where it is. But my
other thing, if there's any moms that are as mad
about this as I am, please consider going down to
the library, find some of this inappropriate stuff, have some
videotape you same what this stuff is, and just put

(10:02):
it out there and so people can see the things
to which these kids can be exposed. I can't believe
Dwyane did this. I just feel so betrayed. I'm a
Republican and I don't know what he's thinking. What kind
of legacy does he want? Is this the thing for
which he wants to be known years from now getting
so many people mad with stupid things like this.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
It really is. It really is an odd choice to make,
especially as you are the lame duck. You're on your
way out. This is not the way I'd want to
be remembered.

Speaker 4 (10:30):
Yes, sir, all right, Jack, You're great.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
Thanks again, Rochelle, thanks for the call. I appreciate you. John.
You are on sixten doa w ETV and Hi.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
All right, Chuck.

Speaker 5 (10:38):
Quick question. I'm a senior. I don't pay state income
tax because I'm well into retirement. And is this new
flat tax as seniors in the state of ohioan now
I'm going to have to start paying income tax on
their retirement.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
I don't know yet. That is a very good question.
It depends, I guess, on your retirement income. I think
the amount that you're bringing in with your pension, social
Security and all that. I think that that's going to
come into play more so than whatever your your employment
status is.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Well.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
See, for years, seniors didn't have to pay income tax. Okay, Well,
if you hear anything, I'll be I listen to you
all the time. I'll pay attention.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Bless your heart, John, I appreciate that. Yeah, for many years,
I mean Social Security wasn't taxed either. And I still
don't understand. You worked all your life, you had this
money taken out of your account, You paid all your taxes.
Now that they've taken it from now you're going to
have to pay taxes on it again. That's craziness. I
think I lost John. Okay, well, yeah, it's I don't

(11:37):
get any of it. We you know, same thing with
the inheritance tax again. You made money, you worked hard,
and you know, God willing, you were prosperous, You did well,
and you put some money back after paying your taxes.
You put some money back, You were able to save
some money. And then you kick off and you leave
it to junior or you leave it to junior at.

(12:00):
Junior and junior at have to pay taxes on it
again after you already paid taxes on it when you
made it, but because you left it to them from
your hard work, sweat toil all those years, your children,
your family have to pay taxes on it again. And
if they use it to buy property, buy a home,

(12:22):
then they pay taxes on the home that they buy
from the taxes that they paid on the Come on man.
At some point shouldn't your stuff be yours? No, not
even if your name is on it in an unclaimed
funds category in the state of Ohio. Not even that
is yours when the government wants it. How sad, it's

(12:44):
probably gonna take me a week to sort through all
of these vetos and exactly what they mean. And John,
I will do what I can to find out about
that retired issue with the income tax and how these
new rates affect all of us. But I'm telling you,
and this isn't a Republican thing, This isn't a Democrat thing.
This is just a working stiffs thing. Man. At some point,

(13:07):
our crap has to be ours. They've got to quit
tax and it, taken it and dip it into it
every time they feel like it. It's not right. What
is the point in aspiring to greatness? What is the
point in achieving? What is the point in accumulating If
it is only going to bring pain to you, to

(13:28):
those that you leave behind, what's the point. It's almost
as if they want us to not achieve and just
you know, count on the government for everything. But no,
no way that could be a tactic
