Speaker 1 (00:00):
Talking about this eleven year old kid out of Lancing,
Michigan as well. I want to tell you about the
kid out of Florida too. It was Florida. I thought
it was Arkansas, Arizona, but it was Florida where this
sixteen year old kid, you know, stepped up and saved
his family. It's a teenager with a gun story that
actually was a good story. But the eleven year old,

(00:25):
a male black Lancing, Michigan eleven year old boy has
been expelled from school. That means kiketh out it an
entire year. Not only can he not go to school,
he can't go to any school functions, no sports games,

(00:45):
nothing expelled and the reason, quite frankly to me, seems silly.
Because he kept one of his classmates from doing any harm.
His classmate brought a loaded weapon to school. This kid, apparently,

(01:06):
according to his mom's story, has a hunting experience at
eleven years old, bless his heart and took the gun
from the classmate. He broke down the gun, removed the ammunition,
got rid of the ammunition, did not rat out his friend,
kept anyone from getting hurt, kept bad things from happening,

(01:28):
and in return, he got expelled. Now I get the fact,
you know, he should have told a teacher and administrator.
I get that, but he's eleven. He did the best
he could with what instinct and knowledge an eleven year

(01:52):
old boy might have, and he messed up. There's people
out here five times his age mess it up every day.
This kid messed up. But he did the right thing
for the right reasons. He just didn't tell anybody. And
when they found out that he knew about the gun
and he took away the gun and he unloaded and

(02:15):
broke down the gun, they expelled him for a year.
And it's just wrong. I've told the story be four
years ago when I was doing a morning show and
there was a lot of violence happening in Columbus. This
was back in the nineties. It was really getting bad quickly,
and it was an alien thing because Columbus just had

(02:36):
not been that kind of city. And one morning we
had a kid call and my news director actually picked
it up and he said, I need you to get
in on this call. So I picked it up too,
and it was a kid from a Columbus city school

(02:58):
who wanted to tell someone but didn't want to get
in trouble. And didn't want to get himself beat up
or worse for ratting somebody out. So he called the
station because he listened to us every morning, and he

(03:20):
needed to tell somebody about the kid who had a
gun in his locker at school. And we got off
the air that morning, and we went to the school
and the situation was handled. His name was never brought
into anything. He reached out in his way. I think
he was fourteen, if I'm not mistaken. It's been twenty

(03:42):
five years ago. It's hard to remember. But he reached
out to someone he believed he could trust to fix
this problem, and we weren't going to let him down
by today's standards. I don't know. Maybe he get in
trouble for that too. Well, you called the radio station

(04:03):
guides instead of telling the teacher. Yeah. Well, sometimes it's
hard to know who to trust, I guess, but to
to do your best, and at eleven years old, this
was this kid's best to keep everybody safe, including the

(04:25):
kid that brought the gun to school. And to get
expelled for a year, that is truly unjust. They've got
the go fundme page out there for I guess legal
expenses and so forth, and I hope mom is a

(04:47):
good and decent person. I believe she probably is because
she seems to have raised a good and decent eleven
year old son. I hope that money is used wisely
and in some way benefits the greater good down the road.
This kid should not have been expelled. Home intrusion in

(05:11):
Florida ends with two dead, two wounded. Random act of violence,
they say, against a family. This is just this is
a crazy story, Okay. The intruder shows up. Just before
six thirty am on Monday, September fifteenth, forty five year

(05:32):
old Mercurial Vasco Lopez barged into a home in Middleburg.
He began shooting anybody in sight. The shooting stopped when
a sixteen year old boy grabbed a shotgun and started
firing back at Lopez. Investigators so far no link between
Lopez and the victims, other than the fact his car

(05:53):
stalled in front of their home. The suspect and his
wife left their residence in Jacksonville, Florida, after midnight. They
drove through Clay County for several hours. At some point,
the front tier of the vehicle was damaged. The suspect
continued driving until the vehicle became disabled in front of
the incident location. According to the sheriff, he then walked

(06:16):
through the fence yard of the residence came across James Magruder,
who was standing outside the house armed with a handgun.
The suspect ordered James inside the residence. Once inside, he
shot the twenty one year old female. Suspect then encountered
Vincent Checkone junior, fired around, striking him. Samantha Chickhone armed

(06:40):
herself with a shotgun. However, the suspect shot her multiple
times before she could fire a shot. Sixteen year old
male was able to grab that shotgun fire two rounds,
critically injuring the bad guy. And eleven year old girl
had hidden from Lopez in a bedroom, while Linda Peeples
forty seven, Ashley People's nineteen, and Magruder eight teen fled

(07:01):
to a neighbor's home for help. Samantha Chacne thirty nine
died at the scene. Vincent Chacun Junior, forty eight, was
treated at a hospital and released. Twenty one year old
woman remains hospitalized in critical condition. Her identity has not
been released. Shootings happened at the suspect's wife sat outside
in the car, unaware of her husband's intentions. The identity

(07:25):
of the boy who shot Lopez not released. The Sheriff's
office did laud the courage shown by those who acted
to protect their loved ones during the tragedy. Middleburg is
a small town about thirty mile drive southwest from Jacksonville.
We see these stories maybe twice a year. They get
some exposure where you know, a minor, a teen, you know,

(07:49):
a child picks up a weapon in the home and
defends a family. This should show you it's the people,
it's not the weapon. These people had a gun, at
least a shotgun in the home, and thank god they did,

(08:11):
because the bad guy, for apparently no reason, just decided
to come in the house and start shooting people. What's
the phrase, only thing that stuffs a bad guy with
a gun is a good guy with a gun. Case
in point, is this sixteen year old kid in Middleburg, Florida.
I would like to think, I would like to think

(08:35):
that I raised kids that would do that, but I
don't know. I don't know. One of them is a
loud mouth, and usually a louder people talk, the more
unlikely they are to actually take action When it needs
to be taken. One of them not so much a
loud mouth, but a little over a confident. He could

(08:57):
probably win a couple of gold medals in the Olympics
right now if they let him. I don't know for what,
but that's just how his head works. One of them
exactly like me, largely silent, sometimes a little scary him.
I'd put my money on. And one of them actually

(09:18):
went into the military. I still don't know that i'd
expect him to do it. But out of the four
I raised, yeah, one that I think, yep, if it
hit the fan, I'm in the fox hole with this one,
and they all the rest of them wouldn't need us
in there. It's great that this kid, sixteen year old kid,

(09:43):
I mean, he obviously had some experience with weapons. Otherwise
he would not have known how to use the shotgun.
It's great to teach them. And for everybody out there
who's thinking, well, that's a different idol. That could be

(10:05):
a log farm town for all I know. I have
no idea what this town in Florida is like you
have you ever heard of it? Middleburg? No idea, but
I know Lansing, Michigan is not a rural community. Teaching
your children how to use the weapon is what makes
it a tool instead of an instrument that could cause

(10:29):
you problems down the road, And in both these cases,
I think that's proven. I took the grandsons up to
l EPD. Eric worked with them, and I was so
proud of him, even the younger one. The younger one
quite an impressive target when he got done. So if

(10:51):
my own kids, I don't know, but with the grandsons,
I got a couple I can count on. Some people
are natural shooters, some people takes a while. Body is different, yes,
and you have to train even if you're natural, so
you know what you're doing.
