Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am sorry, I truly am sorry for the loss
of life, for the loss of life of your daughter, granddaughter, mother, niece, sister, friend,
whatever the connection you may have had to Taquia Young,

(00:22):
I'm sorry that you lost her. That's that's basic humanity
right there. But this lawsuit that's been announced, I'm sorry,
but I see I see little in the way of

(00:45):
merit and even less in the way of logic. If
you're not familiar with what's going on, here's the story
from the WSYX six website. The family of Taquia Young
has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Kroger, a store employee,
and Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb, who is charged

(01:08):
in her twenty twenty three killing. Young is twenty one
year old pregnant mother who was fatally shot in August
twenty twenty three after officers confronted her outside of Kroger
store over led shoplifting. Body camera video shows Young attempting
to drive away, striking Grub before he fired into her windshield,

(01:29):
killing her and her unborn child. I'll talk about that
part later. The lawsuit claims that Grub acted recklessly and
the Kroger staff improperly escalated the situation. Grub faces murder

(01:50):
and manslaughter charges. Trial for him is set in November
for November third, the lawsuit was now is Thursday. Wednesday.
Young's grandmother, Nicole Young, had joined attorneys in formally announcing
it at a during a news conference. Young's family members
still have lots of unanswered questions about how their loved
one was killed in a Kroger parking lot. That's a

(02:13):
quote from attorney Jane. I'm sorry, Anthony Pearson, how is
that possible? Almost two years and they still don't have
much needed answers. Dramatics are way too often a focal
point of stories like this. The family needs answers, They
want closure. Yeah, the answers are right there, video recorded

(02:40):
inside the store, outside the store, and on body camera
from the police officer. Two police officers, if I recall correctly,
Kroger and I guess they didn't name the employee in
this story, but I'm assuming the Kroger employee is named
in the the paperwork the filing. Kroger acted inappropriately? In

(03:07):
what way the staff was they improperly escalated the situation
by what saying? Hey, stop stealing booze? From the store,
give me that back. And when she didn't give it
back and took off out of the store with the
stolen alcohol, they called police in How is the isn't

(03:30):
that what you do? Don't you call the police when
somebody's stealing your stuff? How is that improper? And how
does that escalate a situation where where deliberate, blatant theft
is occurring. The theft was the escalation to the situation.

(03:54):
Has she just gone in there to buy some fish
sticks or something that'd be fine, but stealing escalated the situation.
As for Officer Grubb, he didn't walk up and start shooting.
How many times do you remember the details of that,

(04:15):
Zach was it was like twenty three times or something.
She was ordered out of the car, was signed a
ridiculous number. It was over the top. I do remember it,
but I don't know the exact count. Way too many.
Stealing the alcohol, fleeing the store, refusing commands to exit
the car from a lawfully licensed police officer. That's all

(04:39):
bad enough. Then she put the car in gear, the
three thousand pounds or so piece of machinery, put it
in gear and put it in motion and send it
in the direction of the police officer and the police

(05:00):
BAE officer, as would any of you used the means
at his disposal to protect himself and defend his life.
I'm sorry to be harsh, but that is the reality
of what you saw, what I saw, what everyone saw.

(05:22):
When that car went into gear, when that accelerator was hit,
when it went towards this officer standing there giving her
a lawful command to get out of that vehicle, that
car became a weapon. A baseball pad. A baseball pad
is a tool for sport, but if you swing it

(05:43):
at someone's head, it's a weapon. Same thing. You put
that car in gear, you hit the accelerator, you go
after somebody standing in front of you, it is a weapon.
You are attempting to do harm to them, and they
are within their rights, whether they're a police officer or not,
to defend their life. Is this suit is, it'll go forward.

(06:15):
There will be drama, there will be news coverage, but
if there is any cosmic justice, you will not add
insult to injury by claiming that in somehow, some way,
this is the right thing to do. It is very

(06:36):
sad that you lost this twenty one year old person
out of your life, out of your world. But it's
equally sad to turn what memories you have of her
into some financial circus for money. This is about money.

(07:00):
This isn't the criminal trial. Criminal trial for the officer
starts November third. This is for money, and that's wrong.
That's wrong. No one did anything intentionally to hurt her

(07:21):
until she attempted to do something intentionally to hurt them,
and none of it would have occurred had she been
a law abiding citizen. I'm sorry to sound harsh, but
that's the reality, or maybe that's just me. We've got

(07:41):
some time. If you guys want to chime in, feel
free A two one nine eight eighty six eight two
one WTV or eight hundred and sixty ten WTV. I
wish it would have ended better for all involved. I
wish for the officer and for for miss Young and
for that baby that she was carrying, which you know
because this story, and that's what I said, I talk

(08:03):
about that Lai the unborn child. It's an unborn child
in this case. I just I had to wonder what
kind of what kind of situation, what kind of story
would this have to be for that unborn child to
be the fetus, you know, they those terms get so
easily intermingled. But in this case, it was an unborn baby.

(08:24):
She was caring and that is oh, that's a sad,
sad tragedy. But it's not necessarily a tragedy because a
police officer drew and fired a weapon. It's a tragedy
because someone carrying that unborn baby chose to put himself

(08:45):
in this situation. And if you're pregnant, why why are
you stealing alcohol? Anyway, should have been stealing some fruit, juice,
some high protein. It's a sad story. We live in
sad times.
