Speaker 1 (00:00):
W'y six thirty eight, Chuck Douglas in for the Power Hour,
the final get together for this week. It's Monday through
Thursday thing. But that's okay. You always go to six
ten double utv in dot com or iHeartMedia or iHeartRadio
dot com and and just put me in there, Just
put in Chuck Douglas, and that way you'll get my
podcast and you subscribe to the podcast that way. Anytime
a new podcast goes up, and Zach as usual, I say,

(00:22):
usually pretty good about posting those after the show is over.
He gets them up, so you get a little you know,
text reminder or whatever. Hey, Chuck in his in his
big giant mouth, just put a new podcast out, and
that way you can listen at your convenience. Okay, okay, So, oh,
thousand dollars Freedom Fund from Jermaine Nissan that is going
on right now, and you have a chance to win

(00:45):
bottom of each hour beginning at nine thirty in the
morning going through five thirty in the afternoon. We'll give
you a keyword. You call or text your keyword in
and you could very well be a winner of a
thousand dollars and use any way you want. I mean,
you can give it to me if you want to,
because I think those people would. So here's the story,
and I don't know, I don't know that this is good.

(01:06):
COVID was blamed to a large degree for the disappearance
of all the buffet restaurants. We used to have the
Golden Corral, we had the Hometown Buffet, we had the
CC's Pizza, we had the the we had the last
Ponderos in America, I believe down there on South High Street,
which is still still that's a great buffet. I mean,

(01:29):
just for the fried chicken alone. I really enjoy that
when those few occasions.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
When I go.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
The thing of it is they're talking about now apparently
a surge in buffet restaurants again, I know, and COVID.
You know, people didn't want to breathe on your, sneeze
on you. They were wearing masks and wrapping theirselves in
bubble wrap and nobody wanted to touch anything.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And yeah, I thought it was silly.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
However, five years later, I don't know that I'm a
fan of of share because there's some dirty people out there, man,
And I don't know that I want to be buffet
dining with a lot of my fellow humans out there.
I'm okay, the human thing is an assumption, but I
don't know that I would be comfortable and see the

(02:15):
ones that are showing the signs have come back right now?
Are two of them. I like Golden Corral and Cecie's Pizza.
There's one called mister Gotties Pizza, which I've never heard of.
It's partly attributed to the value seeking consumer. Buffets, of course,
with their wide variety and fixed price, which can be high,

(02:36):
by the way some buffets, you know, thirty nine to
ninety five or whatever, so you make sure you go
in there and start with the meat. I loved CC's pizza,
enjoyed it. Used to go to the one that was
over in Hilliard all the time. In fact, one I
was in there, I had the family. I had the
whole family in there, and we're digesting, you know, all

(02:57):
the pizza. And just as I put a piece of well,
some couple of guys come out and table, Hey, aren't
you Chuck Douglas. I'm like, this is not the right
time for this, But I just don't know the way
the world is today. New bug found every other day,
it seems something else that'll kill us. I'm not sure

(03:18):
that I'll be a fan if they come back and
they reopen. Are you a buffet guys act? Do you
like them? Have you liked them in the past? Would
you be in favor of going to them if they
came back.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
I love Der Dutchman over there in plain the city,
but that's the only one. For some reason, I trust
the idea that there's food just setting there and I
could come in at two o'clock in the afternoon and
somebody else could have walked before me and touched it
or sneezed on it or did anything.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, and there's crazy people out there. And you know
the woman that was peeing on the groceries last week.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Right right, it's not it. Maybe that's a bit of irrational.
It's not interrrational fear, but I overthink it. I've always
been iffy, weary about food. I like CC's pizza a lot,
but I'd be like every time I would go there,
I'm like, did somebody do something?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I know, it's just I don't trust my fellow man.
That's why I'm kind of kind of leery. Unless you
know new for cautions are put in place, maybe they'll
come back bigger and better and say, you know, now.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
We protect the food this way, that way away.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
I'll listen to the sales pitch, but I'm just curious
that you guys, if the buffets were to make a
comeback and we started having them all over the place
again the way it was, you know, ten to fifteen
years ago. Are you a buffet fan? Is that something
you'd be looking forward to or you kind of long
the same line as I am that it is just
it is too risque in twenty twenty five to become

(04:47):
a big fan of the buffet dining A two one
nine eight eighty six eight two one WTV And Dontee's
been hanging on for a while with the thought on
this all right, buffet dondee, what do you think?

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Okay? Actually, well that's one of the reasons why call
and you ain't talk them since Joe Biden put on
the radio. But if I could, if I didn't answer
your first about ten X kids, you don't understand why
how job and family services is certain things. If I

(05:16):
can just get two seconds on that, go ahead, I understand.
Remember I got an almost twenty three year old son
union and an almost thirteen y girl daughter. Those kids,
all kids, those young folks today are not taught what
we were taught. They don't know how to fell out

(05:37):
of resume did they weren't talk to self out of
resumes what they were talked to go to a program
making t answer these questions and bote. They won't taught
the things we were taught. And that's part of the
reason why I understand that program I do.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Well, do you understand? Why do you understand why it
eliminates everybody else?

Speaker 5 (06:00):
Though?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Why should it be specifically and under.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
But do you understand we had the same hold on there?

Speaker 5 (06:06):
But why house?

Speaker 4 (06:08):
Oh you can hear me?

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Well, yeah, when I hear you, I just assume there's
going to be sirens nearby.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Well, his buddy will be falling behind me and a
second trust me, Okay, I understand it. But we had
the same thing back in the eighties. Can you say
the sixty five and over from AARB. We just didn't
realize what it was doing because we were keen interest.
Now that now that you and I in the sixty club,

(06:34):
you realize what AARB was doing. Back in the eighties
and nineties, they were advocating for senior citizens.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Well that that's fine, though, that's a private organization, that's
not a government agency saying we're going to help people
find jobs as long as they're not old.

Speaker 4 (06:52):
They made that government agency do certain things for seniors.
But that's not the reason why I caught. I can
thank you.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
I you gonna spend fifteen minutes telling me all the
reasons you didn't call.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Why did you call it?

Speaker 4 (07:07):
I know you're gonna get it off here, and I
know there's an other people behind you. You are a
wonderful talker, and I haven't talked to you out about
I need your advice, mind, man. I don't know if
you got the video of the trash on somebody on
private property of an apartment complex in my neighborhood to
sit out there down near month.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Yeah, I saw that, Okay, I don't.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Know who else to complain to. My friend. I know
in your private job you are a real estate agent.
I know that if you could help me with any information.
I've seen rats that look like dogs crossing the street.
I don't know who that's planning to the City of
Ghana only.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
The only thing you've got.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
It depends on where they are what jurisdiction they're and
it could have a gay Hanna zip code, but still
be in the city of Columbus. If it's in Columbus,
code enforcement's not going to be able to do anything
on private property. Health Department of Health can because it
is a health hazard, especially if there are rats running
around out there. So that would be my route, Department
of Health and just continue the three one one calls.

(08:12):
Get all your neighbors to call as well. Hopefully some
of the residents are calling.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
It all right, yeah, my neighbors are My neighbors are
already doing it. My neighbors are hot because the children
of Graha there's scoo buses run up and down the
street about thirty times a day. And I don't want
one maybe small little baby bitten viral.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
At Yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Don't want that.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
I get all over the Department of Health because when
it comes to trash and vermin, they're they're your best
friend's Code enforcement because it's on private property can't touch them. Unfortunately,
I got to run, Dottie. I appreciate the call. Eight
two one nine and eight six eight two one WTV
and is my number, Brian, You're on six ten double
UTVN Hey.

Speaker 5 (08:50):
Chuck, just got a quick buffet story. My queens, who
likes to cook, didn't want to cook for Easters. So
we ended up at Golden Corral in Grove City and
it was pretty good, early enough that it wasn't busy.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
They even had ribs on the breakfast beffact.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
I have been there I think twice since they reopened
at and I have to say both times, both times
food and service, we were pretty dog gone good. The
people around me, Yeah, that's a different matter. Yeah, there's
some people where you just you meet them, you look

(09:30):
at them, you see them, you hear them, and you
can't help. But you just hear banjos Man, you know,
and it's those were all the people that were there
that night, was the banjo people. And then being being
a dad and a grandpa. You know, I'm cheap, That's
in my blood.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
You can't.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
I get upset when I see somebody have their child
at the table and that child gets up and leaves, like,
you know, four thousand dollars worth of chicken and steak
that they never even touched.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Why did you take that?

Speaker 1 (10:02):
And I exactly, And then I'm getting a fighting and
nothing ends well, yeah, exactly, news.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
And so so did they open for breakfast just for
Easter or they opened for breakfast all the time.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Actually, from what I understand, on the weekends they opened
at seven thirty for breakfast.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
Oh well that's nice.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Yeah, we're you a fan of the c C's Pizza.

Speaker 5 (10:28):
I had never been to C's Pizza, to be honest
with you.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I really they had.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
They had probably i'm gonna say twelve different pizzas on
their buffet up there, and they just kept breaking them
out of the oven as you'd take them. And there
were a couple that were like white cheese. I think
one of them might have been a goat cheese if
I'm not mistaken. But they they were really, they they
were excellent. I loved the restaurant that was just back
in my my buffet Officionado days. I don't know if

(10:55):
I would still still be that loyal to and if
they came back or not.

Speaker 5 (10:59):
This is sure. Well wasn't there one in ge Hannah?
I'm sorry, Pickerington.

Speaker 6 (11:04):
I think they were, but never got okay, yeah they
never said driven past and some other commercials, but never
actually went to the Chinese buffet as well in gross
City and Circle.

Speaker 5 (11:16):
Bill is supposed to be really really good. We haven't
tried yet.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
Now, we did go to a chat. Where were we
out on South Hamilton Road? Is that where we were?
I can't remember where we were, but oh no, no, no,
down on South High Street, down across from Walmart. There's
a Chinese buffet down there, and that had.

Speaker 5 (11:36):
Trouve legs on it the last time we were in there.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Yep, the queen said, you know, we ought to try that.
I'm like, oh seriously, but I went in there. That
place was clean as all get out, it was not
expensive at all, good selection, hot food, and it was
sitting almost empty.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
There weren't many people. I'm like, okay, this is my secret.
But we got to keep them in business.

Speaker 5 (11:58):
So we keep coming back.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
There.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
You go, Brian, you take care, appreciate yourself and and
and enjoy a little sunshine on your face before.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
It goes away. Tonight, he was well, man, thanks a
lot eight two eight six eight two.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
I see Brian's a man after my own heart. He
knows when to go to the buffet. That's something else
I'm being on you. I don't like going anywhere when
it's really crowded anywhere, restaurant, store, nothing. I used to
really love back before COVID, when we could, you know,

(12:34):
life was kind of twenty four hours. I would go
grocery shopping at ten ten or eleven o'clock.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Nobody's in the store. It was great. Plus, that's when
a lot of at.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
The Kroger store in my neighborhood, at least ten o'clock
at night is when they started like marking down all
the meat because it was time for it to go interesting.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (12:55):
He used to work at the airports forever. I would
be at work at four am, but the myer next,
the closest one to me, was open twenty four hours,
so I can go shopping at two thirty.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
It was perfect. Yep, nobody was in there, man.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
And at two thirty you can like sing along to
the music with the stalkers too, which is kind of cool.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
Mean we would sing along sometimes I bring hot dogs.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
It is great.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
Silly as it sounds, my friends, that is a piece
of wisdom I share with you. Never ever ever get
too old to be silly, because silly helps all right.
Time for me to fly. I'll be back in here.
I think maybe we'll see I'm trying my best to
be back in here with Blazer tomorrow. I get some
stuff to handle. If I can be here, I will be.
If not, I'll see you at three o'clock on Monday
