Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, Happy Saturday. Happy to be here with you
on this shop small Saturday. We hope everyone had a
great Thanksgiving and a good you know, Black Friday if
you participate in any of that shopping. But happy, you know,
small business Saturday is here, happy to have got some
good food in US and good time with family and friends.

(00:21):
So I do have lots of information and go over
So we're gonna go ahead and get right into it.
So Medicare season or annual enrollment period for Medicare, and
that has to do with your prescription drug plans or
your part cy plan.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
So if you have.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
One of those, now is the time to you know,
review and make any changes. Select your new plan before
December seventh. That would go into effect January first. If
you have not taken time to update your prescription drug list,
run that. Make sure you know your current plan is
the best plan. Make sure you do that. You can
give us a call five six three three five nine

(00:58):
to eight five four. We can see if we have
time to get you in again. It's important to do
that so that you are set up for success going
into the next year. I was able to, you know,
help Rob review one of my very good friend's mother's
drug lists in situation and on her current plan, you know,
they'd gotten their explanation of benefits, everything looked great. We

(01:21):
ran her updated drug list and it was over eight
hundred dollars per year that by switching to another plan
she was able to save simply because her prescription drugs,
one of them was going to be covered on a
different tier with her current plan than it is on
this current year, so going into next year, that drug

(01:43):
in particular was going to cost quite a.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Bit more throughout the year.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
So we were able to get it submitted so that
she will have a new plan January one, and overall
saved her over eight hundred dollars compared to the current
plan that she was on going into next year. So
again it is important to take the time to just
do that. It took very couple you know, very limited
time on them, a couple of minutes to update the list,
then answer some questions that they had, you know, in

(02:08):
regards to as their doctrine network and yes, all of that,
the code pays for doctor visits specialists, those kind of benefits.
Making sure they weren't losing any additional benefits which they
had all of the same adequate coverage, so we were
able to get that submitted for them and get her
set up for the best outcome financially for her next year.

(02:31):
So again, annual moment ends December seventh. Give us a
call five six three three five nine five four. We
can try to get in to make sure you are
set up great for going into January first of next year.

Lots going on in Laclear today for Shop Small Saturday,
so get out here check it out. It is going
to be a little cold, but the distillery has their
cocktail castles up, so if you are.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
Have a group you get a reservation, give them a call.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
They do have a believe it's one hundred dollars minimum,
but a few cocktails in a to go bottle will
get you there pretty quickly and it's a nice option.
They have heaters in there and you can really.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Get pretty toasty pretty.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Quickly, so if you're needing a place to warm up,
be sure to stop there and check them out. So
as as stated, you know it is getting a little
chillier that cold front has really definitely come down upon us,
so we wanted to also take some time to go
over some just general kind of home maintenance stuff. So
if you haven't already, be sure to call and get

(08:33):
somebody out to take a look at those heaters. I'm
sure most of us have cut them on already, so
be sure you.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Know to get them checked out ahead of time.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Preventative maintenance as always or usually maybe a little bit
more cost effective. You may have some options for repair
versus you know it's broken, it's emergent and.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Just we have to fix it.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
So definitely get somebody out there to take a look
at those heaters as we're getting.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Those all cut on.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
And with that, also be sure that you are checking
and making sure your carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors
are in working order to make sure you replace those batteries.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Test them again.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Those should be replaced about I believe every five years,
so make sure you know if you haven't gotten a
new one in the last few years.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
You get that on your lists.

Speaker 1 (09:18):
As you're out and about shopping over the weekend to
get some of those deals, make sure you're thinking of
some of those home maintenance items as well.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Again, check those dryer events.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Lint in those dryer events causes quite a bit or
a majority of those house fires, So make sure you
get those cleaned out, get a vacuum hose down there,
you know, suck it all out as much as you can.
Get those nice and open so that as the homes
are heating up, we are not having unexpected fires. Also,

(09:50):
didn't kind of want to share just some general learning
or home ownership experience that I had recently, so I
can maybe pass some of this knowledge around some things that.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
I didn't know.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
So we had had a uh smell coming and it
wasn't a hundred percent all the time smoke, but every
once in a while we'd get this with and it
wasn't a pleasant odor.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
And we you know, check the attic, looked.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Everywhere, it could not locate the origin of this smell.
And again it was just every once in a while
we'd get a whiff. Well, you know, it had been
going on for you know, maybe four to six weeks.
And then I noticed in my daughter's room when we
were doing some rearranging, one of her toys that was
plugged in the outlet was clear or the plug in

(10:34):
portion was clearly uh disturbed. It looked like I had
may be blown up. There had been some burning, so
I unplugged it kind of generally assumed, oh, it was
probably just this you know thing that was plugged in
this item, not that it was an issue.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
With our plug in.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Well, I put a outlet cover on it, cause you know,
tryna keep little fingers out of outlets. A couple days later,
and notice a burning plastic smell, So go in there.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Pull it out. You know, it's hot, it's melted.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
So we you know, cut electricity, get an electrician out here,
find out that there is some faulty wiring in her
room and needing to replace those outlets. So after further
discussion with the electrician, the odor that we have been smelling,
which again was unpleasant, almost fishy like odor, is burning wires.
So if you smell a fishy, unpleasant type odor and

(11:26):
you cannot locate the source of it, again, I thought
we have a dog. Maybe the dog had a mess
somewhere we hadn't found it. We searched weeklean again, we
had redone her room, so we had searched the entire
room and come to find out, long story short, that
it was the electrical we had been smelling every once
in a while, and so again preventive maintenance. If you

(11:48):
have that smell, get a call to an electrician. So
we are very thankful and grateful that we were able
to catch it, you know, earlier than later. I'm sure
we weren't very far from it being a much satder story.
So again, if you're smelling that kind of odor, I
had no idea that it could be related to electrical,
just call an electrician, get somebody out there to take

(12:10):
a look.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Definitely grateful again.

Speaker 1 (12:13):
So next week and we have Christmas in Leclair, so
many of the shops will have very similar specials going
on that weekend as they have going on.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
For Shop Small Saturday.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
So if you need information on either Shop Small Saturday
or Christmas in the Clair. Christmas and the Clair, they
do have a lighted parade that we'll be doing.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
There will be a.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Lighting of the Christmas tree down at the levee. There
will be walking Santas out and about at the shops
on Saturday. Lots of good fun next weekend as well
out here in the Clair. So if you are looking
for something to do, get out here this weekend. For
shop Small Saturday or next weekend for Christmas and the
Clair always a good time looking forward to that, all right,

(13:02):
So on to home and auto updates.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
There again is lots of things changing.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
One of the things that has been hitting my desk
quite a bit actually recently is HOA is looking at
converting condo policies. So if I have a couple of
customers that live in a condo or a side by
side home and we haven't insured on a condo policy
where they insure the studs in the condo association or

(13:30):
homeowners association then has a policy that covers you know,
the shared structure, the roof, those types of things, so
the studs out a lot of those condo or HOA policies. Again,
with all of the change going on on the property
and casualty side here in the Midwest, are seeing either
drastic increases or seeing that they're not able to get

(13:53):
those same types of policies or offering the same coverages.
So maybe the policy that they had previously replacement car
on all the condo roofs is now only actual cash value.
So that's not a great policy to have and leaves
quite a deficit there. If there is a loss to
come up to find the funds to actually replace it

(14:14):
from that actual cash value payout.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
So a lot of people are having to look.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
At options on their homeowners where they're going from a
condo policy to a traditional homeowners policy where they're going
to cover the entire.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
Structure with that.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
Obviously cost is a little different, but also coverages is
a little different. You obviously have much more dwelling coverage
because you're ensuring the entire structure, but you also typically
are going to have different minimum deductible requirements. So most
condos will let you start with like a five hundred
dollars all perros deductible. Most homeowners typically, you know, a

(14:50):
couple years ago, I would say you can started about
thousand a lot of them. Maybe you'll let you keep
a thousand deductible this year for all perros, but are
wunning you know, one percent or twenty five hundred or
five thousand, one hail deductible.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
So again it's just.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Being privy to those kind of differences and making that
make sense. So if you are finding yourself in the situation,
don't worry. You can get homeowners quotes not an issue.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
We can run those and we are happy to do that.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
We would definitely recommend chopping it around early. However, not
too early. So a quote I put together from one
of my insureds just so she could get idea is
really no and void because this change is potentially not
happening until March or April next year, so my rates
will obviously be different. But again, think about it, plain ahead,

(15:38):
get things in order if that's something that you're looking at.
Also get some numbers and interview with age OA to
see if the difference really makes sense to take the
increase on the home owner's association policy or if each
individual taking the new policies is going to be the
better overall buy for everyone. Again, happy to take a
look at any quotes you need. There is options for savings.

(16:02):
I've been busy, busy rewriting customers. If we can't find
it on one, we can typically find it on the other.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
So if I can't find it on the home, I
can maybe find it on the auto or vice versa.
So there are some options available.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Definitely give us a call five six three three five
nine eight five four.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Happy to work on the home not quotes for you.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Rob is happy to discuss and meet with as many
people as you can before December seventh. So again it's
annual enrollment period for Medicare. If you have a prescription
drug plan, or a Part D plan or a Part
C plan Medicare Vantage plan, you want to give.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Your agental call, give Rob a call. We will get in.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
We will update that medication list and just double check
to make sure which plan is going to be best
for you going into next year. Give us a call
five six three three five nine oait five four. We
will be happy to help with your Medicare, with your
Homanano or happy to see you out and about shopping
small today or next weekend for Christmas and the Claire.
Thanks so much, and again hope everyone had a great

(17:02):

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
